Together or Nothing

Pairing: Vettel-Reader x Carlos Sainz Jr.  Genre: Angst/Comfort Summary: Growing up with Carlos, you knew he’d be a special driver. If he asked you to follow him to the end of the world, you’d do it. But when his life in Formula 1 is in jeopardy, how far are you willing to go? 

uhhhhhhh - I was inspired and I made an imagine after the complete clown show that was last tuesday. This is an apology imagine because this week is stacked and there might not be a TDITD update in the near future. So I'm feeding you all now. Never thought that my first imagine would be fore Carlos but here we are.

You had heard the rumors. But that’s what they were supposed to be. Just rumors. 

Your dad had warned you that something big was going to be announced, but you never thought it would be this. 

Well, some rumors can turn out to be true. Your mind was swirling with thoughts as you looked at your screen. Photoshopped pictures of Lewis in red was all that you saw. Conformations, hot-takes, and edits began to follow. People praised the prancing horse for securing the 7-time world champion. Podcast hosts immediately took to talking about how Lewis would be the best teammate for Charles. Everyone seemed honed in on the two drivers. 

Yet, all you could think about was Carlos.

Carlos who had given his all to the Rosso Corsa team. 

Carlos who was the only non-Red Bull winner in 2023. 

Carlos who bled the Ferrari red, even sometimes more than their Il Predestinato.  

Carlos who was slowly becoming forgotten in a matter of minutes. 

Your heart ached for your friend as you read his short and blunt statement on his Instagram story. You could almost feel the sadness through the minimal words. 

Your fingers flew to your messages as you messaged Charles. The Monegasque had known for a while, but had tried to get the Spaniard another contract. He knew that Carlos was one of the better drivers on the grid and disagreed with Ferrari’s decision. 

You knew that Charles had so much respect for Lewis. Hell, everyone did. You don’t just equal Michael Schumacher’s championships every day. No one has even come close to it. Yes, Max was well on his way, but nothing was ever certain in the world of Formula 1. 

Charles even complained about how he might not be number 2 driver in a team that didn’t believe in “driver priority.” Years of experience and 7 World Champions would definitely give someone the upper hand. 

Swiping out of the messages with Chares, you brought up Carlos’s contact. 

Your finger hovered over the message icon and then switched to call, then back to messages before you swiped out of his contact completely. 

You fingers went to a different contact. You knew it was a hard decision, and it would take a lot of convincing, but you were determined. 

Strict words were flown between you and your father. Having ties with a specific car manufacturer got you places, but this was in the wind. No one had asked for something this big – except you. 

After the begging and borderline crying, you ended the call. Exhaustion was creeping up on you, but you had more things to do. 

Once again, you clicked on Charles’s profile and pressed the call button. 

“Hello y/n,” Charles’s voice echoed through the speaker. 

You sighed. “How is he?” 

Charles mirrored your initial sound. “He won’t pick up. I’ve tried texting, but he’s leaving me on read.” 

You nibbled on your lips. “Have you called Lando?” 

“He’s on his way here. He was in Woking for the suit fitting and debut.” 

You let out a sigh of relief. 

“Can you send me his flight info if you have it? When he gets in, I’ll pick you up, then him. We can all three go see…”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.” 

An annoyed sound left your lips as you raised your voice. “Charles, be for real. If we’re honest, he bleeds red more than you do. He needs us. Needs his friends.” 

There was silence for a bit, until Charles spoke up. 

“You’re right. I’m sorry. Sending you the information now.” 

With a couple more thank-you’s and apologies, you hung up. 

Lando was supposed to land later that evening and everything was in place. 

A couple of hours later, Lando was in the back seat of your car with Charles in the passenger. The three of you sat in silence as you drove to Carlos’s place in Monaco. Lando was the first to speak up. 

“So what’s the plan. I know you Y/n and if you haven’t made a call yet somewhere then you’re have no plan and this is just pointless.” 

You rolled your eyes as Charles stared at you, waiting for some good news. 

“I made a call to dad. He says he’ll get the ball rolling. We’ll know by tomorrow if they go ahead with it.” 

Charles leaned in and adjusted himself in the seat. “And who is they?” 

You hushed him. “A girl never spoils her secrets.” 

Not long after, your car finally made it to his place. The lights were on, which was a good sign. 

Carlos was home. 

You swallowed thickly as you made your way up the stairs. Your hand lifted and knocked on the door. Charles and Lando were right behind you. 

It took a couple of minutes for Carlos to open the door, but he eventually did. The sight was almost unbearable. 

His normally kept hair was sticking up in different places. His cheeks were red, along with his nose. 

He had been crying no doubt. 

He looked tired as he slouched at the door, but straightened up when his eyes landed on you. They held a certain softness as he gazed at your face. But the softness hardened at the sight of the other two drivers. He opened his mouth to talk, but you raised a hand. 

“They’re here for you Carlos. Please listen,” you pleaded, hand now resting on his chest. He looked down and then nodded, moving to let them in. 

The three of you followed him in. You were half expecting things to be thrown everywhere and broken. Yet, the house seemed to be in perfect shape. He led you to the living room and sat on a chair. 

You, Lando, and Charles all squeezed onto the couch in front. 

A comment about school children and their principal wanted to leave your lips, but you held it back. 

The Spaniard sat in silence as he waited for someone to talk first. 

Charles inhaled sharply. His voice cracked the first time he tried to say something, but he persisted. 

“I didn’t want it to be like this.”

When Charles finally looked up, Carlos could see the tears in the Monegasque’s eyes.

“I tried,” he swallowed, “I tried to get them to keep you on. Even tried to have them do an open ended contract like mine.” 

Carlos spoke up. “Yet, you have said that you’d want Lewis as a teammate.” 

Charles looked down again, almost ashamed. 

“I half-handedly said that, and you know it. If you were asked you probably wouldn’t have said my name either.”  

Carlos looked down at his hands. Charles was right. 

He got up from the couch and crouched in front of Carlos, so they could be on eye level. Charles put his hand on Carlos’s shoulder. 

“Together or nothing, right?” 

Carlos nodded silently as he brought the brunet into a hug. The two men shed some tears as they hugged. 

You knew how hard it was going to be on the Spaniard. 

He often said that his one downfall was to love and love too quickly. 

Lando was truly his first favorite teammate with Charles coming at a close second. He got too attached in a sport that was famous for their driver swaps. 

Moving from McLaren to Ferrari had almost crushed his and Lando’s friendship. It took them months to be able to hang out without sadness hovering over their heads. 

Now, Carlos was determined to not let that happen to him and Charles. Lando also wouldn’t let it happen, and neither were you. 

The three of you stayed for a little longer, with you being invited to stay the night. Your hand was pushing against Lando’s face as he made kissy noises as he walked out the door. Your keys had been given to Charles with the promise that he’d keep your car safe. 

That night, you held Carlos as he cried and cried. And when you thought he was done, he’d cry some more. You ended up not telling him about your plan, simply because you didn’t want to get his hopes up. 

Yes, in the morning, you were being shaken awake by the Spaniard. His phone was shoved right in your face. 

“Is this real?” he questioned, voice cracking with emotion. 

There on his phone was the official announcement. 

“PORSCHE OUTBIDS AUDI FOR THE 2026 SPOT IN FORMULA 1” 

“EX-DRIVER SEBASTIAN VETTEL TO BE PORSCHE’S TEAM PRINCIPAL IN 2026” 

“Y/N VETTEL TO BE RACE ENGINEER FOR NUMBER ONE DRIVER IN 2026” 

“PORSCHE SECURED NUMBER ONE SEAT AND CONTRACT FOR SAINZ JR 2026” 

The large headlines were giving you a headache, so you simply smiled and closed your eyes. 

“Surprise,” you said, sing-singly and sleepy. 

Carlos just looked at you and you could feel his eyes on your figure. You peaked out at him before sighing, tugging the comforter down as you sat up. 

“If you don’t want it…” 

“I want it.” 

You shivered at the bluntness in his voice. 

He looked from you, down to his phone, then back to you. “You did this?” 

You nodded shyly as you leaned in closer. 

“I know you and Charles have your own ‘together or nothing,’ but I’d follow you to the ends of the earth if it were possible Carlos.” 

You waited for him to say something. Yet, he never did. He did something better though. 

He kissed you. 

“Together or nothing, mi Corazón.”

A/N: for this one; charles will adopt y/n when he’s 28, for the most part, the grid will be the same as the 2023, everyone’s just older, and because charles’ relationships are unpredictable, he chooses to adopt and raise y/n mostly on his own.

. okay so

. again, charles has always wanted a family

. small, big, when he’s young, when he’s old

. doesn’t care, just wants a family

. specifically, a child

. but after many not-so serious and semi-serious relationships

. he realizes that he’ll have to wait a few years until he can have one of his own

. unless

. “what if I just adopt a child?”

. “I won’t have to wait any longer, I can just have one and raise them on my own terms”

. charles decides he likes this idea very much

. so he thinks it over and talks about it with his own family

. then after many conversations with his mother

. he visits a few adoption centers

. talks to a lot of social workers and child protective service workers

. finds one wide-eyed, adorable, 3 year old girl

. and falls absolutely in love

. the directors of the adoption center tell him all about you

. your birth parents, your story, your situation

. his heart was set

. the adoption process takes a few months

. so charles take that time to get ready for you

. but nothing could prepare him for the day the adoption agency called and told him you were his

. he swears it was the best day of his life

. he was beaming the entire drive to the adoption center with pascale

. had tears in his eyes when he finally got to hold you in his arms

. so then

. charles leclerc is a father

. the first two years of living with charles was definitely an experience

. you don’t remember much but he tells you how chaotic ages 3-5 were

. about how he basically lived with his mother in his childhood home for those years so she could help him take care of her granddaughter

. how much he loved getting to know you

. finding your favorite foods, toys, shows, ect

. how he loved teaching you his languages

. (he raises you in french, italian, and english, particularly in that order)

. how he cried when he dropped you off for day care and kindergarten the first time

. how he loved helping you know him

. like playing songs on his piano for you

. teaching you how to play different sports

. or watching old formula 1 races together

. speaking of formula 1

. you were raised racing

. charles bought you your first kart when you were six

. brought you to your first f1 race when you were five

. actually, charles had a love-hate relationship with bringing you to races with him during the early years of having you

. because on one hand

. there’s thousands of cameras around during a race weekend, and charles doesn’t want you televised 24/7

. and there’s also hundreds of people around him while he’s in the paddock, and he wants none of them near you

. it’s also hard to give you his full attention during race weekends

. which is something he always wants to do

. so he’s against the idea at first

. but on the other hand

. he can’t bear being apart from you for a few hours, nonetheless a few days or sometimes weeks

. and he knows you don’t really understand what’s going on, only that your dad puts on a red suit and drives a very fast car for a hour and half

. but he loves coming back to the garage to see you sitting with andrea, clad in ferrari merch and big headphones with a happy grin on your face

. it cheers him up no matter what happened on track

. and he knows he has lots of people willing to look out for you while he’s busy

. because you instantly became beloved by the grid the moment charles walked in with you in his arms

. you only know uncle carlo and uncle pear

. uncle lew, uncle max, the list goes on

. although charles never lets you out of the ferrari garage

. his closest friends come in and visit you often

. sometimes because your dad asked, sometimes just because they want to

. also, speaking of max

. you met penelope during the winter break when you were five

. and even though she’s three years older than you

. she instantly became like your older sister

. and suddenly charles and max hang out a lot more often for the sake of their daughters

. anyway, the early years of living with charles were still chaotic, but he says that those years contain some of his favorite memories

. he loved watching you grow up

. sending you to primary school

. watching you kart on the same track he drove on when he was your age

. spending many afternoons at his mother’s house with his brothers

. (arthur and lorenzo are the best uncles by the way)

. watching you discover your own passions, whether that be racing or not

. traveling around the world with you, both to race and to explore

. watching you become independent, speaking up for yourself and what you believe in

. it all goes by very fast for charles

. and suddenly you’re a teenager

. by now charles is close to/about to retire

. so you don’t spend that much time in the paddock as a teenager

. but the times that you do are very fun

. instead of staying in charles’s team garage, you explore the paddock with penelope, who’s still an older sister to you

. you befriend all the newer drivers

. and hang out with whichever drivers are left from the grid when you first got adopted

. however, the drivers that charles has been friends with and have retired by now

. lewis, daniel, carlos, pierre, max, george, alex, lando

. you’ve formed your own big family with them and their kids

. because almost all of you live in monaco, you see each other often

. you guys go on vacations together when you don’t have school

. holidays on private beaches and expensive yachts

. or at booked-out ski resorts and mountain lodges

. you and penelope are the oldest, and are mostly in charge of looking after the youngest kids

. but you don’t mind, you love them

. it’s your own little f1 community

. but this is barely the beginning of having charles as a father

. he loves embarrassing you, for one

. at first glance, it might seem cool to have your dad come pick you up from school in a ferrari

. until he gets out in strangely pattered pants and a shirt that will never match

. “papa, do you not have anything else in your closet?”

. “what do you mean? you don’t like?”

. he says it keeps you humble

. you say he should just stay in the car next time

. charles does make sure you’re humble and grateful for everything you have

Making it this far in Formula 1 as a female was hard enough. Actually proving to be worth it is even harder.

Carlos and Charles had been her rock throughout. The fans have taken notice of how close the three of them are. Which can be attributed to the fact they have been dating for over a year now, and Carlos has an incessant need to touch both his partners at every moment.

It helps all three get to stay in the same hotel and can run back and forth between hotel rooms if neccecary.

Carlos had woken up on Friday feeling sick. He struggled with the car all if qualifying and was disappointed with his thirteenth place.

Same thing on Saturday. He was struggling so much that Charles was trying his best to discreetly ask about it. He almost passed out trying to get out of his car. Herself and Charles had to help him get his fireproofs and dump cold water over him.

Ferrari decided he couldn't race and would put their reserve driver in his place. To chich Carlos and Charles tried to stop.

"It's to hot!"

"And that wasn't going to stop either of you!"

That point won her the argument, and she lined up in thirteenth on the grid Sunday night. Which to their credit, it was hot. And it didn't help that she'd already been pushing her limits all weekend with the stresses of life as a female driver.

If she's being honest, she's shocked she crossed the finish line at all with the way things were going. She pushed hard for two hours. Managed no to crash into anyone. She even managed the tires despite the heat.

She planned on celebrating tonight. She may have ended in the same place she started, but it felt good. She felt more confident in herself. Maybe she could get a seat somewhere.

That was until she couldn't get out of the car. Or maybe she did, but she was so out of it she couldn't tell.

The last thing she felt was her helmet smacking the ground.

The lights are horribly blinding when she opens her eyes. Her mouth is so dry she feels like she's had nothing but salt for years.

She readjusts herself in the bed of scratchy linen fabric. What happened? Did she crash? Was finishing such a hard race simply a dream?

"Amour? How are you feeling?" Comes the voice of Carlos. She looks to where he is sitting. His eyes look tired, but his movements are gentle as he reaches for her hand. Charles is slumped on his shoulder asleep.

"Dehydrated and exhasted." She rasps. "What happened?"

You got out of the car and passed out. You weren't the only one either. Charles is exhausted as well." He looks to the Monegasque with sad eyes. "We did have a bet going about whether all three of us can fit in your bed or not."

"Shall we test it out then?"

All three climb into the bed. It's a tight fit, but they manage to make it work with entangled limbs.

It's a nice feeling, falling asleep this time. Inbetween her boys. Their arms draped around her protectively.

"At least you finished the race."

"At least you finished in the points."

"Both of you are tired. Go to sleep!"

The notion of home was important for Max Verstappen. For a long time, Monaco had been lacking the sort of familiarity and feeling it once used to have. It was no longer homemade dinners and escapades to the pool, failed baked dishes or tranquil mornings spent on a warm terrace. It was no longer long walks along the french riviera or the warmth of intertwined hands and loving glances.

The place itself no longer carried that feeling he desired.

That feeling had walked away with a girl whose presence was just about gone from his life. She was a dusted memory that had been packed away but reemerged ever so frequently.

The pretty smile, those memorable looks through long lashes, the mere pull she had as a person. Her patience and warm love. That despite how much he had corrupted her she had retained much of that inner innocence.

Those unforgettable mornings of bright rays shining in on them as they were a mess of limbs on the bed, not preoccupied with the world outside—just a couple eloquently in love.

Max could never quite forget her.

He also couldn’t forget how she didn’t retaliate in any way when it all came to an end. She just left when he had faltered, when he had stepped out on her and their relationship. Respected herself enough to not stick around for the world of hurt he was already putting her through.

She didn’t speak to the press, didn’t put out any statement when it all came crashing down. Didn’t shade him or didn’t call to cuss him out when his relationship with the same brunette she already had her doubts about became public just a few weeks later.

Now she had crept back into the same world that had destroyed her all those years ago. How the rumors propagated just about everywhere, how so many had pitied her for the mere fact that they were smart enough to see how fast things had happened for him. Put the puzzle pieces together, connected the dots as one relationship suddenly ended without a peep and another one began so soon after.

The first time Max saw her resurfaced a turmoil of feelings he had suppressed for so long. It had been at the paddock on the day of Barcelona’s grand Prix. She looked everywhere but at the dark blue of the red bull structure as she walked behind the red of the ferrari members and Carlos Sainz.

Of course they had to make their first public appearance in Carlos’ home country Grand Prix. How symbolical, Max chastised in his head. His jealousy so apparent to those who stood around him.

All he could see was her side profile, ever so beautiful, as she tried her hardest to avoid looking at a place she had spent so many of the races supporting him.

Yet it was funny how life worked. How it intertwined paths that were thought to never cross again. How much avoiding, being adamant about it, could get you right back to the place you were running away from.

She tried to avoid him as if her life depended on it. Eyes looking forward wanting nothing to do with Max and especially not after he had embarrassed her just days prior on social media. How he couldn’t seem to deal with the fact she was dating another f1 driver and wanted the world to remember he had claimed her first so he posted a photo of them in a rage.

He knew he didn’t have the right to react like that, to have had such an outburst like he did. Post a picture of them when he’d given her a bouquet of flowers so large she could barely hold it.

Max’s outburst on instagram had really dangled the media in their faces, put them in an even more awkward situation. He had absolutely no right to react the way he did, she had fumed at his drama-inducing instagram story. He had no right yet he’d gone right for it, put her in an uncomfortable situation.

Not just her, but his very own girlfriend who refused to even look at him and had packed a small bag for her and her daughter deeming she needed her space to think about things. About them.

Now all Max could do was stare with a dumbfounded look as the woman he could never truly shake off was suddenly staring right back at him too. Her face said it all. No emotion towards him, no resentment. Nothing. And especially not when the Spaniard turned around exactly when their gaze had lingered for just a second and grasped at her dainty hand, taking it between his and slightly pulling her forward so they could walk side by side.

Y/N felt her hands become clammy as Carlos grasped tightly onto it, intertwining their fingers for the comfort he knew she needed at that very moment. She was nervous about publicly going into the world of formula 1 again. Nervous about seeing Max again, even just meeting his eyes had made her feel agitated. Like the wind had been knocked out of her with his piercing eyes.

She stared at the man whose hands and even his voice was inviting and calming on days like these when her nerves were out of control.

Carlos Sainz Jr. was sweet and romantic in all the ways Y/N wanted her man to be. He wasn’t scared of showing her off regardless of her history with one of his rivals. None of that mattered to him. Not when he knew he held her entire attention, how she adored him in a way that made him feel content. How she loved him so effortlessly.

Max Verstappen was in her past now. More than two years later and they were now in the very same place together and it resurfaced so many emotions. How the man who would call her his petal was now a man she no longer talked to, no longer crossed paths with, no longer shared her life with. He was a figment of her past, a chapter in her life that had been forcibly closed.

He was also now a man with more responsibilities—a girlfriend who lived with him and bearing the role of being a stepfather.

Y/N had been so utterly heartbroken when Kelly began posting stories about him. When she began sharing so many aspects of their lives and they became that adoring couple that people admired. How loving he could be with another woman just weeks after their breakup.

Regardless of all the distress and pain that came with the realization that something had happened while her and Max were still together came the relief that she walked away from a world of pain.

She didn’t have to wonder if he’d call or if he’d be home on the day he said he would. If he really was where he said he was. She didn’t have to wonder if he’d met another model, an actress or whoever and if she crossed his mind during these interactions.

Now her fingers were interlaced with a man who knew formula 1 all too well. Whose tall frame sported red with the yellow logo of a prancing stallion. Ferrari’s race driver who carried the number 55 on his back. It felt awkward to once again be able to watch a race from the paddock club, but now for a whole different team. How she was in a sea of red instead of the usual blue.

 One that rivaled her ex’s very own team.

To root for somebody that was not Max Verstappen.

“Are you ok, princesa?” Carlos asked, his big brown eyes staring down at the girl whose face was anything but relaxed. Brows creased and lips in what seemed a pout. She felt silly that she couldn’t even control her own facial expression during moments of distress.

“I’m nervous.” She admitted.

“We’re doing nothing wrong. You’re my girl, Y/N. I mean…look at you.” His eyes scaled down the beautiful woman at his side, admiring her for what felt like the hundredth time that morning. The yellow dress she wore reached just above her knee and clung to all right places.

“If anything we’re showing how much of a fumble that loss was.”

He didn’t have to mention him to know who they were talking about. She felt bashful at his comment. Cheeks becoming hot as she lightly slapped his arm playfully.

“It’s true, princesa.” He flashed her his dashing smile. Looking even more handsome than she thought possible.

“I got so lucky with you.”

She’d gone from a wilted petal to a princesa. Pretty pet names that carried different meanings, one from a man who had faltered in his love for her and let their love wilt. Another one from a man who made every second possible in their relationship count. Who regardless of the time spent away from each other always made sure she felt loved.

It was the flowers, the facetime dates, the particular gifts ranging from purses he thought she’d like, jewelry and care packages with letters, keychains and snacks from whichever country he found himself in. It was all so different than how it was with Max.

Max’s hands had turned into fists, not being able to hide the sour expression that had overtaken his face. Despite knowing that more than likely cameras were on him he couldn’t hide his overwhelming anger and jealousy. His friend, who stood off the far back had walked towards him, who knew all too well of the events that had taken place the last couple days placed a hand on his shoulder.

“Are you ok?”

“How could I be? I have to watch Y/N be with Carlos almost every single weekend from now on.”

Max frowned as he stared at the couple who walked off into the distance wishing he could take everything back. He wished he had done things differently two years ago, but now it was far too late.

ferrari biggest mistake was letting vettel go for sainz. vettel got a bad rep in 2020, but if sainz was there he would be worse. and like lewis said in that one interview , the progress ferrari did with the car is a lot thanks to vettel. they let go an experienced driver who was a great help to develop the car for what? I still don't see the advantage of sainz.

My delusional Seb/Charles Ferrari lineup stan merchant ass: 🫡👏

Without getting into the technicalities of why that relationship ended how and when it did, I'm gonna go full self-indulgent delusion here for a second and entertain a completely hypothetical scenario.

There's been a lot of talk about how Seb prefers his cars set up and behaving a specific way and that he can't perform at his best if he's not getting that, whereas Charles is more adaptable and can do more with a car that's being difficult. And obviously there's his preference for oversteer. But... Carlos prefers understeery cars? 🤔 Based on the upgrades and tweaks Ferrari brought last year which were more to Carlos's liking but arguably made the car less competitive, you can see that they didn't go for a driver whose preferences for setup and car behaviour align with Charles's. So already that's not much of an improvement over Seb and what he brought to the team. ❌

Is he less "mistake prone" than Seb? Arguably not. I mean, Sainz In Gravel became the reincarnated version of Sbinalla last year. He also had a fair number of unforced errors and collisions with other drivers. Which, sure, it happens sometimes, you get punted off and there's nothing you can do about it. But still, I don't recall Charles tangling with drivers in the same way, especially during race starts, and he had the reputation of being a "grid terrorist" just a few seasons ago 🤔 And if you watch Charles's onboards regularly you know that he's had people locking up in front of him and doing all kinds of shit and he avoided colliding with them. Oh and also if Carlos has poor starts that's down to [checks notes] the car???? Because of course it is. Our????? Bro you mean your 😭So again, not a massive improvement over Seb. ❌

Team orders... that's an interesting one. Because Charles and Seb sure had their moments in the past. But something that isn't really widely acknowledged is that Seb was on the receiving end of a number of unfavourable team order decisions in the last two years. He was frequently told to hold or swap position with Lance whenever the cars were close, or explicitly told not to fight Lance for position (even when you're fighting for peanuts, really? Lmfao good luck to Fernando). And really most of the time he was level-headed about it and obeyed. Even with all of that working against him (lbr Aston's strategies weren't masterclasses either) he still managed to outscore Lance. And he did two races less than him because of early season Covid. Mic drop.

Obviously he's a seasoned and decorated driver and he has his own ambitions but... I really like to believe that if there was a chance, one as promising as last year, for them to bring the championship back to Maranello they'd work together pretty well. Winning races in a competitive Ferrari is probably better than being stuck in the midfield. You could see he still had hunger and passion in him, the way he was fighting until the literal finish line with Kevin and Fernando last year... his racecraft is still there. ✔️

Also, he's incredibly intelligent and gives in-depth feedback, especially on technical matters. AM's Performance Director has credited him for pushing the team forward in every aspect and it's been said that a lot of strengths of the seemingly improved 2023 car are down to his contribution. ✔️

Idk man, they both love Ferrari so much, even when things go so fucking wrong, and they really deserved to be the ones restoring them to former glory. Logic and reason aside I would've loved to see Seb in the F1-75. Like, fuck. 😭

No challenge for Verstappen as he sails to Austrian GP victory By Steven De Groote on 02 Jul 2023, 17:03 Max Verstappen hardly had any challenge on his way to today's victory in the Austrian Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc did lead the race for a while due to strategic differences and finished in second place while Sergio Perez put up a great recovery from 15th to complete the podium. After Pirelli had already predicted a three stopper with hard and medium tyre stints, suggesting the medium was best to start on, most drivers actually opted for this option. Only three drivers went out to start the race on hard tyres of which Ferando Alonso was the best placed. When the action got underway Verstappen easily held onto his lead and did not get surprised like he did in Saturday's Sprint. Charles Leclerc followed up in third place, closely followed by Carlos Sainz. Leclerc did attempt to make a pass at Turn 4 but soon bound himself behind Verstappen again with his team mate eager to find a way to make it past his team mate. Sainz though would stay behind as his team asked him to "stick to the plan. No fighting for now". Lewis Hamilton gained a spot and moved up into 4th with Norris right behind. Fernando Alonso gained two positions by passing Hulkenberg and getting around his teammate at Turn 1 who had to brake as being somewhat stuck on the inside of the right hand corner. Further back Tsunoda incurred some damage and then rumbled across the gravel at Turn 4. Race control immediately brought the safety car for 3 laps. Nothing much happened at the restart after Verstappen bunched up the field closely together before sprint away quite a way before Turn 9. Only when DRS got enabled in lap 6 some overtakes started to happen. In fact it was mostly Hulkenberg helping events a bit as his tyres started to fade. After getting passed by 3 cars over the next laps he retired on lap 13 with a loss of power. This resulted in a VSC period activated right before Hamilton passed the pit entry. Hamilton pitted and so did many others. The next lap, both Ferraris and Aston Martins also pitted whereas Red Bull opted to stay out, sticking to their regular pit strategy that would eventually help them at the end of the race. The stops at Ferrari on the other hand were dreadful. For both men it was around 4.5 seconds while for Sainz one needs to add some waiting time as he entered the pitlane right behind his team mate. The next laps of course saw drivers pass through the fields or move backwards due to a different phase in their strategies. During those stages there was several close battles and people pushing hard to stay away from challengers behind. All of this resulted in several 5s penalties, most of which were served during the second series of pitstops. On this series, Red Bull was again offset a little bit and slowly moving away from the field as they did not have to make their tyres last as long as the others did during their second and third stints. The domination was such that Verstappen was able to make a free stop at the very end to switch to soft tyres and easily get fastest lap. Ferrari can be happy with second even though Sainz may well be wondering what could have been if pitstops or strategy were any better. Oh jeez. That race was A LOT. Like, so much, possible too much but considering how many races were dull all the way through or had dull patches I will take one race of pure insanity. We had SO MUCH midfield spice, it was excellent, an ACTUAL BATTLE FOR THE LEAD!!!!! and honestly??? It was a great race from start to finish. I genuinely would watch it again.

Lando Norris credited faster final sector at the Circuit de Catalunya for helping him secure a “surprise” third place on the grid. Lando Norris has set performance targets for his new McLaren team mate Oscar Piastri in their first season together. 2021 Formula 2 champion Piastri joins McLaren after the team ended Daniel Ricciardo’s contract a year early. Ricciardo scored less than a quarter of the team’s points last year. “As a team we need a driver who does push me a little bit more, and hopefully that enables me to unlock even more potential from myself,” Norris told media including RaceFans at the launch of McLaren’s MCL60, the car he and Piastri will race this year. “That’s what we’ve lacked a little bit of in the last few seasons. That’s just the way it is between drivers. “We were good friends, we had a lot of good laughs and so on.
