It is technically Thursday for me already, but only by 20 minutes, so *slides this in under the wire*

This is from the sequel to the floating clouds, no resting place if I ever manage to kick it into shape. Feat. Li Lianhua and Di Feisheng, but my difanghua agenda is alive and well.

"A-Fei." Li Lianhua swallows, then tries again. "Feisheng." That wins him a tart little huff, like the dry husk of a laugh that got caught in Di Feisheng's throat. "No one calls me that." "What would you like to be called, then?" As diversions go, it is more of an accidental tumble than a deft sidestep. "I could ask you the same thing." The thing that Di Feisheng truly wants to know—the thing that haunts his every step—is layered underneath. Who is Li Lianhua now, in this new life of his? Where is the man Di Feisheng once knew like a shadow knows a body? "I—" Li Lianhua hesitates. It is a newfound relief to do so without artifice. But Di Feisheng has earned an answer. "I am Fang Xiaobao's friend. I am your friend. And I'm afraid He Xiaohui will start calling me her son-in-law any day now, though I'm tragically unlikely to ever continue her family line." Di Feisheng shakes his head. His husky laugh curls around Li Lianhua's heart. "Your affairs are a worse mess than mine, Li Lianhua." And there, again, he is gently pinned by a beloved eye, heard by a familiar ear. What a strange thing, to be so known. He could, perhaps, get used to it.

Honest to go so good, it is unfinished and only at 3 chapters but it is 32k words and by god if it isnt one of the best books I have read over 5 times already, featuring mikey being a helpful little brother and managing to stress his big brothers out in the proccess.

2003 Mikey gets taken into the Horizon Zero Dawn universe rather than the superpowered turtle universe in the SAINW episode. Positively glorious, he gets bashed and bruised and comes out the other end with an arrow sticking out of him.

2012 Donnie gets deaged and Mikey gets to be a big brother. Positively adorable, Mikey is an enabler and the poor toaster will never be the same, plus just the right amount of angst to make me squeal.

2003 Mikey and Leo and stuck in the sewers after a collapse, both are hurt and oh looky here it seems Leo has fainted and Mikey is panicking, it would be great if he could take a full breath to hyperventilate with.

Mikey can't get over his fathers death and knows his brothers cant get over it either, and he is going to do something about it, been if it almost costs him everything. Was originally 1 chapter, but a second chapter from Splinters POV makes everything gorgeous.

different age turtles, 2012 universe, Mikey and Raph gets transported to a post-apocalypses time-line aptly called the after party, no one lives, but Mikey does manage to find himself a monkey companion and Raph really wishes his little brother and him would be back home. Little moment of Mikey and Donnie being twins that is positively adorable and I need more of it ASAP. Its 10k words but reads like 30 in the best way possible, like literally a must read!

Mushy May Day 2: Late Night Snacks

Cirrus and Swiss share a moment while everyone else is asleep.

Cirrus yawns as she leans heavily on the edge of the kitchen sink, the light low and yellow as she turns down the dimmer. The cold ceramic tile under her feet is enough to keep her awake, alongside the growl in her stomach.

She waits for the toaster, the heating elements glowing a bright orange that almost remind her of Dewdrop's eyes when he gets upset. Cirrus plays with the end of the ties on her sweatpants, willing herself not to jump when the toaster pops, but fails anyways, laughing softly at herself as she collects the two halves of her everything bagel on a paper plate.

"Evenin', whisp," an easy voice filters into the kitchen, and Cirrus jumps higher than she did when the toaster popped.

"Swiss," she gasps, laughing with a hand over her chest. "Quit being so damn quiet."

He smiles, scratching idly at his stomach as he moves over to one of the cabinets, bare chested and barefoot. "Where's the fun in that?" he teases, reaching up for the bulk jar of trail mix on the top shelf. Cirrus watches appreciatively as the muscles in his back flex as he stretches.

Cirrus grins, turning away from him to fish a butter knife from the drawer. "Can't sleep?"

"I don't know how many times you've spent the night with them," Swiss says, tossing a handful of dried fruit and nuts into his mouth. "But damn, the little bug can snore. And then I was hungry, so here I am."

She smiles over her shoulder at him, flashing him with sharp teeth before. "Same boat. At least, the hungry part, not the snoring. You know Cue doesn't snore."

Swiss snorts, picking out a cashew with his claws. "Nah, she doesn't. A real angel, isn't she? At least, as close as we get."

"You've got that right." Cirrus hums, pushing a strand of her hair behind her ear as she grabs the container of soft goat cheese from the fridge, the stuff that Mountain brings in from the Abbey's goat herd. "Could you be a dear and grab the honey jar for me, switchblade?"

He doesn't answer, but sets the trail mix down to root in the cupboards again.

"Thanks," she says, smearing the goat cheese over her bagel, the knife scraping over the crispy, toasted sides. Swiss passes her the honey and a spoon, even without her asking, and she flashes him a smile in thanks.

The cheese melts over the bagel, enough to get soft and spreadable, and Cirrus drizzles a little honey over each half.

"That looks good," Swiss says through a mouthful of peanuts and almonds. "I should try that next time."

Wordlessly, Cirrus takes half of her bagel and holds it out, not looking up at him as she finishes putting honey on the other half, closing the jar one handed. "Wanna bite?"

"You're too sweet, whisp," Swiss says, swallowing the trail mix with a dramatic gulp. Some of the honey's started to drip off of the edge, getting her fingers sticky. Cirrus jolts as she feels something hot and wet, turning to catch Swiss's mischievous gaze as he licks the dripping honey.

She rolls her eyes, but she matches his grin as he takes a bite.

"Shit, that's good," he says with his mouth full. Cirrus takes a bite next to where he did, letting her eyes shut as she eats, the goat cheese tangy on her tongue.

"Mhm," she agrees, chewing. There's a rustle as Swiss shoves his hand back into the trail mix jar. She knows without opening her eyes that he's picking out a handful of M+Ms.

They stand there in near silence, just existing together as they eat. Cirrus sways slightly, the feathered tuft of her tail brushing against the tile. "M+M me?" Cirrus asks, brushing a few crumbs and sesame seeds from her tanktop.

Swiss's mouth quirks up in a smirk, and he tosses her a blue one. She catches it and pops it in her mouth before she turns to put the goat cheese back in the fridge, her paper plate in the garbage. "Thank you, switchblade."

"For you, whisp? Anything," he says, batting his eyes as he downs his handful of candy. "Swear to the father below these get so much better when they're in trail mix."

"It's the salt," Cirrus yawns, stretching until something in her back pops like a glow stick. Swiss groans in sympathy, turning to close the trail mix jar and put it back on the top shelf.

"Yeah, that's probably it," he says, shutting the cabinet door. "I'm heading back to bed, Cir. Get some sleep?"

Cirrus smiles, running her fingers through her hair. "That's the plan, I need to get back in bed before Cue wakes up. Don't like her waking up alone."

Swiss takes a deep breath. "I get it. I'm the same way about the bug."

Cirrus steps to leave the kitchen, but then there's a big hand curling gently around her bicep, and she lets herself be pulled gently into the multighoul's arms. "Good night, whisp," Swiss says, pressing a kiss to her forehead.

She smiles. "Good night, switchblade."

Meg nods, prodding the sliding cheese back on top of her slice. “Yeah. He told me his name is Derek. And that he doesn’t really like Balto.”

“Is that right?” he asks, eyeing the wolf who seems far too interested in watching a pair of animated moose arguing. It’s official. This wolf is weird. This whole situation is weird.

Separated from Laura after being cornered by some hunters, an injured Derek finds himself being rescued by Stiles and his young daughter. In more than one way.

Dealing with the death of his sister, Derek spends most of his time helping out his family. He meets Stiles and as soon as Derek's willing to admit his attraction towards him, he discovers that Stiles is dealing with his own problems at work. He needs help - help that Derek's all too willing to give. There's something about Derek with his strange, glowing eyes and quick ability to heal that makes Stiles trust him when maybe he shouldn't.

unfortunately i remember a lot of the good ones were on tumblr and so many people have changed their urls that they are not findable but, heres what i got

also keep in mind i havent read any of these in years and the summaries im giving are probably ass

these are all mostly ralbert, because that was what i read the most of, except for the ones at the end

the toaster fic (i used to remember this persons tumblr @ like 5 url changes ago but my brain is small and soupy so i am sorry). its crack, under 2k, absolute silliness and im still laughing about it five years later. modern era.

side by side its a really long ralbert soulmates fic where they are oblivious to hell and back. from what i remember its fluffy and silly. modern era.

voice okay she slaps ngl. its a modern era kind of angst situation. albert is mute. theres some referenced homophobia. lots of cuddles. 6k.

shaking thisss is a sick fic if i remember correctly. race is silly and gets a cold and there is cuddling. definitely part of a larger spralmer au but it works as a stand alone. under 5k. modern.

let the memory live again THIS FIC o gosh its killed me several times over. might be my favorite. idk. its up there. modern ralbert au. sad but also happy. albert is supposed to be dead and is not. he also has amnesia. its like 14k. read it at 2 am for maximum effect. god tier.

a love that will never grow old this is a sad canon era soulmate fic. race is alberts soulmate but albert is not races. theres also a sequel. the good kind of dad. multihap, 9k.

hero complex by @turtle-steverogers classic little ralbert oneshot, perfect amount of angst and comfort. albert is a firefighter and race is Worried also theres a dog. about 3k. modern.

thank u, next by the one and only @jack-kellys. its paranormal. its funky. its modern. its five parts and its complete. its 12k words and honestly like. i remember reading this and going absolutely batshit fizz is such a good writer (and is still actively writing newsies, throw them some prompts they love javey)

Lance cannot for the life of him think of the word in English. ~ Hunk is used to it, Keith is not and realizes Lance is more capable than he first thought.

polyglot lance loml. there was a point in time when admiralcanthackett (once thenakednymph) when pumped out more voltron fics than i did, and fae were fucking AWESOME at it. i was hooked on faer every word. im pretty sure i bookmarked almost every fic fae wrote!! this one is sweet because its very team as family, and lance appreciative. 

2. Raindrops on roses by @zipadeea

"Lance, you can't just add 'space' to everything, just because we're in, well, space." "Oh c'mon, it works, though! Spaceship, Space Mall, Space Dad-," "What?" "Shiro is our Space Dad, Keith. Obviously. Sheesh, I thought you were smart."

The paladins call Shiro Space Dad. Shiro knows this. Here's four times they say it out loud, and the one time Shiro's finally okay with it.

yall remember how popular baby lance was?? like him getting deaged by a monster ray or whatever?? well i do. there used to be this comic that floated around about it too and it was fucking adorabale. well this one is so fucking cute it makes you yell a little!! the fic is actually focused on shir as a space dad, and his relationships with the paladins, and you can really see this young adult growing into himself via the love he has for the people on his team. i fuckn love this fic

3. Video Chats by @tomminowrites

Not long after leaving to join the Blades, Keith stops by the castleship to catch up with Voltron.The visit was going normally, until the Red paladin lets slip that he's been video calling one of the paladins fairly regularly - unknown to rest of the team.

poor fucking lance 💀 he gets HUMILIATED in this one. his whipped ass gets absolutely dunked on and deservedly so. i literally love them

4. where & how we’ll land by xintong

The first time Keith meets Lance is also the first time they kiss. It all goes downhill for him from there.

i love this one (childhood friends to lovers always Gets to me) but the first meeting has me in tears bc lance’s first appearance was basically just this:

“What happened to the toaster?”

You stood with a hammer, over the kitchen counter, crumbs on the floor and an unsuspecting toaster that had three dents in it. 

You were in your sleep shorts and tank. Nothing had gone right this week. The office was drowning in requests at work, you often came home late and couldn’t eat dinner with your husband who picked up your daughter from aftercare and put together the dinner that you weren’t home for. At night, you could only shower, kiss your little starlight as you tucked her in at least and became the big spoon to your sleepy husband’s little spoon. You were careful not to wake him up but you wanted to at least touch him beside your goodbye kiss in the morning. Just to hold him, feel his back, put your face in the crook of his neck. Take in his fresh scent, slightly musky since he showered before bed but all his.

Frankie scratched his head at the sight. He had seen you stressed before, but you both were similar in the regard, normally calm and composted but internally panicking. There are times when you didn’t make any sense to be sure, but eventually you worked out whatever issue you were having. Frankie was your biggest cheerleader thought it, he had learned that sometimes your problem solving would be ruled by emotions instead of logic. At times it worked and other times you found yourself to be self-loathing about your failings despite also telling Frankie that he was doing great when he knew he wasn’t. Your edges had been started to fray as of the last few months. The powers at be had seen your work and loved it so the put you in charge of your own team along with a pay increase. He was so proud of you but it now meant hours would be longer at times and you weren’t laughing as much when you came home. He knew before you went to bed, you were still making adjustments on starlight’s costume. She insisted that the family dress up like Super Mario characters, she had seen the movie and wanted to be Bowser so Frankie would be Mario and you Peach. Those spikes on Bowser were proving to be a challenge but this, how did the toaster fit into the picture? The pilot took a wider look at the kitchen, there were two pans, butter, eggs a bowl, some juice.

Ah…you were making breakfast. Maybe?

“The toaster and I had a disagreement about if the bagel should come out of it. I will have the bagel.” You stated, not in a joking manor. Frankie’s concern grew. This was not something he was familiar with, how can he fix this, is it even fixable? 

“Cariño, put down the hammer and come here.” He walked toward you as you slowly lowered the hammer but did not put it down. His arms wrapped around you and then you set it on the counter. Feeling his warm embrace calmed you down and your eyes watered, tears began to fall. Your shoulders shook with your sobs as Frankie held you, rubbing your back with his broad hands. “It’s okay. I’m right here. What happened before the toaster got on your bad side?” He asked. It was just like him to take you seriously with your madness, to treat you as if you were the most normal person when you often felt far from it. You looked up at him and shook your head. 

“I just wanted to make breakfast for the two of you. I feel like I haven’t seen either of you much and there’s still so much to be done. I shouldn’t have broken the toaster. That was stupid.” Barely above a whisper, you placed your forehead against his chest, listening to his heartbeat. When’s the last time you heard it? “I think I should tell them I want to go back to my old job. I had regular hours and I want to eat dinner that my husband makes for me with him.” Frankie ran his fingers through your hair.

“Are you sure? It’s only been a week. We’ll work it out. We always do, don’t we?” He kissed your forehead. You sniffle but smile. This man.

“You just want me to keep working so we can put more money in starlight’s college fund.” You joked, feeling a bit more like yourself. Frankie chuckled.

“You caught me. We gotta start early. She’ll be off before we know it, though can she stay six for a while longer?” Frankie started rocking you softly, soothing you further. Your smile grew, a few strands of your hair stuck to your cheek from the tears. “Te amo mi amor.”

“I love you to. Te amo Fransciso.”

i know you are sorting through xenofic recs but i definitely would add the tales from dimwood forest series ("poppy" and it's following releases, also my personal favorite xenofics ever tbh) and the animals of farthing wood (also has a tv series adaptation). "a dog's life" is also another really good xenofic novel and the creator is lgbt+ (yipee).

also a casual question, would you consider object fiction to be xenofictiob? like would the "brave little toaster" count as xenofic to this master list?

I'd say yes as well! Xenofiction is just a non-human POV so it think it would count lol I put PMD and MLP on there anyways. I'll add it too seeing as yeah, not a human so therefore fits the genre lol

Do you have any fic recs for any fandoms you’re currently obsessed with?

Hmmmm well the three main fandoms I kinda rotate thru currently are The Great Ace Attorney(brry), Metal Gear(otasune), and Dungeon Meshi (labru)

I put it under cut cause I kept getting side tracking talking lol

I can start with labru but I actually haven't read that many fanfic? Mostly cause when I first looked up the tags I was suprised there wasn't much fic at all. But also not suprised cause the anime hadn't even revealed kabrus 1 secret (and the anime wouldn't even touch his 2nd secret this last season 🥲) so I thought I'd just wait till fics start accumulating before diving back in (if anything I need recs lol)

Accurate Models of course. Its the first fic recc's to me and it even inspired some fanart lol modern au. Kabru becomes obessed with the youtuber that does monster dildo reviews

Let's see for otasune....well I'll warn u. Mgs is probably the least friendly diving in blind given that that the lore is just Insane. But also like some in game info reveals are just so so special....it flavors the lore....

Half Way Hungry which I thought was real cute. Post series. Laios finds out Kabru has feelings for him and starts?? Writing in a journal studying him like one of his monsters?????

Harry Potter Rec Fest Day 16 - a fic that made you laugh

This is such a fun prompt, @hprecfest! I knew immediately the fics that I would choose. Funny how laughing out loud in a silent train or waiting room makes the memory of a fic stick in your head (ditto tomorrow's prompt - a fic that made you cry).

Bouquet by @breathofthephoenix and @curlykay (Audio version on the Fanfic Affliction Podcast) Pairing: Draco x Hermione Word count: 26,760 Length: 5-ish hours of podcasting (including commentary) Rating: E

The Draco-Hermione banter in this fic is top tier. I laughed out loud repeatedly. They decide to fake relationship for all the events of the Parkinson-Potter wedding and of course, fall for real.

The audio version is from a (possibly?) abandoned podcast where two British ladies read fan fiction to one another. They stop frequently to comment and laugh, but it's a testament to the incredible writing of the fic that I remember it so clearly still.

Ten Visits to Fire and Flight: The World of Dragons by @sandervansunshine Pairing: Draco x Harry Word count: 17,324 Rating: E

Another wonderful fic from @hd-fan-fair Career Fair 2023. I just loved all the little world-building details of this fic. Draco is a museum curator and in competition/rivalry with the other museum departments. Harry brings all the next gen kids to visit his exhibition, frequently. Also included: "from the mouths of babes" hilarious truth bombs, hot semi-public sex, momentary jealousy over a very fit Charlie Weasley, and dragons dragons dragons! No podfic version yet, but I would love the chance to do it.

@eggbagelsjr is HILARIOUS. I'm only sorry that some of the puns in this didn't translate very well to the audio medium in my recorded version. But the dynamic between Draco and Hermione is so great here, awkward Human Resources worker Draco in his tiny little office is sad and cute, nerdy sapiosexual getting together between the pair while writing an academic article is 100% my bag, and I had to edit out a lot of laughing as I recorded this.

The main pairing for this fic really ought to be enemies-to-lovers Draco x a toaster, with background Drarry. It switches between Draco POV and the toaster POV, and it's hysterical. It even led to this joke on Instagram when the toaster reared its ugly head again in Way Down We Go.

Let's start off the new year with a round of self-recs to give some old works some love! Since this is the time for fireworks, I thought I'd compile a list of fics and meta posts I wrote about Thomas being affected by loud noises.

Fanfiction:

Flashback: In which Thomas's trauma gets triggered by a popping balloon and he has a panic attack outside of the basement.

“Thomas?” Julian asked. Thomas’s eyes snapped up to him, wide and fearful. “It was just a balloon.”

Julian’s tone wasn’t condescending, held not even a hint of amusement at his expense and yet Thomas couldn’t help the urge to defend himself, to hide from him the feeling of pure terror that had taken hold of him.

Fireworks: In which Thomas hides in the basement on New Year's Eve and Nigel keeps him company.

“Hey,” Nigel’s voice suddenly pulled him back to the present. He looked worried, so Thomas offered him a shaky smile. “I’m fine.” “You keep saying that,” Nigel noted. He shifted a little until their shoulders were gently pressed together. Thomas forced himself not to lean into the touch. “But it’s alright if you’re not.”

Privilege: In which the toaster sends Thomas running from the room and the Captain goes after him.

“Go away.” “I’m afraid I can’t do that, Thomas,” the Captain said quietly.

Thomas’s breathing hitched. “Please. I don’t want you to see me like this. You - you’ll laugh.”

The Storm: In which Julian finds Thomas in distress and realises that storms trigger him only under specific circumstances.

“It’s the middle of the night and you’re inside Button House. What you heard was thunder, not a gunshot.” As if on cue, lightning flashed across the sky. A second or two later a roll of thunder followed. Thomas shrunk in on himself and squeezed his eyes shut again. Julian tightened his hold on his hands.
