Enjoy!
His house was the closest to Rem's but him bring the brother closest to her age, they had always gotten on better than the older two. Harry was at work with back to back sessions, she didn't want to bother him. He answers the door "Lai?" Her eyes are swollen and red "Lai, what's a matter?" He pulls her in for a hug "Nate, I thought I was doing the right thing!" She sobs.
"Hey! It's OK! Come on, let's get you off the doorstep. I'll make us a tea and you can tell me what is going on!" She follows him to the kitchen "Are the kids here?" She wipes the tears from her face, "No, Zeppy has gone to Vicky" he rolls his eyes at the mention of her name "And Jade has taken the boys swimming" he calls back as he makes his way to the kitchen.
A few minutes later he comes in with 2 cuppas "There you go! I can't remember if you take sugar or not"
"That'll do fine!" She smiles as he hands her the mug "So, what has upset ya?" She sighs not wanting to talk about it, but that's why she's here "It's Rem...he probably hates me. Alene has been in contact with Melissa and she wants to build bridges with Rem. I went round just now to have a word with him and he got angry and kicked me out" she sobs.
Nate rubs her back and hands her a tissue "Oh Lai! I'm sure he didn't mean it! It's just a sore subject for him, you know this more than anyone. Once he calms down, he'll realise he shouldn't have taken it out on you" Laila wipes her tears and takes a deep breath.
"I get why he is upset, I do...." Laila's phone starts to ring, she didn't want to speak to anyone right now other than Nate, so she ignored the call, a few seconds later her phone PINGS "You should get that maybe it's Rem?" she huffs pulling out her phone Harry's name appears across the screen.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5637cb27945d6bed3562439c8e4d5d73/c7433134b94fa9c1-1b/s1280x1920/604b757fa52df9f66e2cdbddee1d0220c64422a4.jpg)
"It's Harry, Alec has told him about what happened with Rem. Looks like he tried to call me too. I'll give him a call back in bit" she puts her phone away "I think Rems will be fine once he cools off. You've got to also think it's a big thing! Here he is building this new life with Alec and suddenly the past comes rolling in" She feels a little better after talking to Nate.
"So, Zeppy has gone to see her Mum?" Nate rolls his eyes "Yeah, not much I can do able that now she's 18" Nate just shook his head, he always worries when Zeppy is visiting Vic as she always comes home with an attitude.
Zeppy and Vicky's mother and daughter relationship has always been up and down, but more downs than ups. When Zeppy was 3 Nate went to pick up Zeppy as usual, she would spend weekends with him, he knocked on the door and got no answer.
He knocked a few more times again, still no answer, as he opened the flap of the letter box he could see straight into the kitchen where Zeppy was turning the dials on the gas cooker hob.
That's when the smell of gas hit him, he calls out to Zeppy to stop and open the front door.
After Zeppy unlock the door he rushed his daughter out the house and into his car before going back inside to turn off the gas and in search of Vicky but there was no sign of her in the house. Zeppy's bag was packed near the front door, he picked it up and left the house.
30 minutes later a frantic Vicky calls him, after the 5th call he finally answers "PLEASE TELL ME, YOU HAVE HER NATHAN!!???" still angry she had left their 3 year old daughter in the house by herself, he decides to be cruel "Have who?" he calmly asks "WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHO?? OUR DAUGHTER!!?" she screams down the phone at him.
"No, I'm running late. I did call to tell you" this was a lie he had called her after he found she had left Zeppy at home alone. "NATHAN! SHE'S GONE!!" she's sobbing on the other end of the phone "How?" he asked, hoping she won't lie like she has on other occasions. Like when Zeppy had used Vicky's phone to call him because Vicky had collapsed. When he got there she lied saying she had the flu, but he knew better the reason why she collapsed was the same reason they split - Drugs.
"She was in the shops with me....I turned away for a second and she was gone" this was the last straw for him. She had flat out lied to him, on the way to his, he asked Zeppy where Vicky was she told him that she had left with Scott (One of her druggie friends) and told her not to answer the door to anyone leaving her there.
"Good job she's safe then! I have her, I was early, but thank fuck I was! Vic, she was playing with the gas cooker! What the earth possessed you to leave our 3 year old daughter by herself?" Vicky knew she had been caught out "Nathan! You scared the shit outta me!" his blood boiled he couldn't even be bother to answer that she clearly couldn't see what she had done was wrong.
With the help of Terry and Liz, he won primary custody of Zeppy before she was 4. When Zeppy started school Nate was a single dad, so Liz would always pick up Zeppy from school as his job at his grandad's Garage was until 5PM. He met Jade on her first shift at the pub, he was covered in oil, but her smile won his heart the first time he saw her.
The next day he came to collect Zeppy he had gone home to change his clothes and shower. Liz looked a little confused when she saw Nate walk through the door clean and smart, but she soon realised why when her eyes followed the direction he was stupidly smiling in. He made the excuse that he and Zeppy would have dinner at the pub that night just so he could stay a little longer. By the end of the night he finally worked up the courage to ask her out....
2 years later.
Jade gave birth to their first son Blake by his first birthday they were married soon followed Isaac and Alfie.
When Jade had gone into labour with Blake, Vicky assumed she would automatically get Zeppy for a few days, but Nate had already planned for Liz and Terry to have her. This broke her heart, so she turned to her only friend and overdosed. Waking up in hospital, she was greeted by Nate stood at the bottom of her bed with a sad Zeppy. She smiled at her daughter as she opened her eyes, but Zeppy didn't return it "Zep? Baby, Aren't you happy to see Mummy?" she asked. Zeppy teared up, "NO!" she shouted back at her before storming off upset.
Vicky looked to Nate "I couldn't keep it a secret from her anymore Vic. She knows how you got here" the look of realizations spreads across her face, "You told her?!" she hissed, he leaned over the end of the bed "Believe it or not...she overheard the doctor. Vic this was supposed to be a happy time, but you went and shat all over it!" he walks off leaving her with nothing, but her tears.
Although Zeppy wasn't biologically Jade's daughter, she treated her exactly the same as the boys, Vicky hated this. Whenever Zeppy would call Jade Mum in front of Vicky on the supervised visits at the contact centres, she would always hiss "She's not your Mum!" Jade would ignore her.
Jade obviously knew what happened with Vicky, but she also understood she was a Mother and how much it must have hard her to hear her daughter call another woman Mum. Much to Nate's disapproval Jade always encouraged Vicky and Zeppy's relationship she even got him to change the fortnightly supervised visits to once a week. If it was left up to Nate, she wouldn't have any contact what so ever.
As far as Vicky was concerned, he thought Zeppy would be better off without her in her life. But Jade would always convince him as much as he doesn't, like her, it has to be Zeppy's decision on whether she kept in contact with her or not and if he took that away from her she would resent him for it. Zeppy kept contact in hope that one day she might have a normal Mum, one that might put her daughter and her health first.
So far that seems a long way off.
Present day
"Probably Vicky talking in her ear, but don't take it to heart, Nate" she smiles her phone rings again. She takes a look at the screen, it's Harry again "You better answer that he'll be worried about you" Nate gets up "I'll make us some lunch and you speak to your boyfriend" Laila answers the phone.
"Hey handsome!"
"Hi my love, Are you OK? Alec called me and told me about Rem's blowing up"
"Yeah, I'm OK! I'm at Nate's just talking about it with him"
"Are you sure you're OK? I can see if I can get Ollie to take on the rest of my PT sessions for today?"
She smiles at his sweetness "I'm fine now....what time do you finish? I'll pick you up in the car?"
"If you're sure? I finish at 4 today"
"Yeah, I'm sure and I'll see you at 4"
"OK 4...I love you!"
"I love you more"
Nate makes a gagging noise at his sister, she laughs as she hangs up "Things going well between you two then?" she rolls her eyes at him "Clearly!" he hands her a sandwich "Cucumber and lots of butter" she laughs, "You used to make me these for my packed lunches at school or if I was ill"
"You loved them, I remember someone telling mum not to make your lunch box because you wanted me to do it!"
"To be fair mum would normally chuck in some Jacobs crackers with butter and grated cheese, that stuff would always go everywhere! Do you make the kids these?"
"Yeah, Zeppy used to love them. Alf, Blake and Isaac still have them if they are having packed lunch"
They heard the front door slam "Jade? Zeppy?" Nate called out soon after he heard footsteps hammer up the stairs before another door slam "Zeppy?!" Laila said as she looked to Nate. He sighed and was about to get up from the sofa to deal with his daughter, but Laila grabbed his arm "Let me!"
He sat back down, leaving Laila to deal with one of Zeppy's mood swings. She knocks on the bedroom door to hear Zeppy yell "Dad, go away!" She knocks again "Zippy, it's me!" She heard her huff followed by footsteps coming closer.
The door swings open, Zeppy's eyes are swollen "Will you stop calling that Aunt Leia!" Laila laughs.
It was 3 months after Nate had found out about Zeppy that Laila first met Zeppy. She could never pronounce her name right, it always came out as Leia, it kinda stuck until she hit her teens and she started calling her Aunt Laila and she asked her to stop calling her Zippy.
"Are you going to let me in to have a chat?" she doesn't respond, she moves away from the door and wanders back into her room leaving the door open. Laila walks into the bedroom Zeppy is slumped on the side of her bed, head down looking at her feet. Laila saw her wiping her eyes, "Zep's, what's wrong?" she sits down next to her, Zeppy turns away from her "Come on, you can tell me!"
"She's using again!" she hisses towards Laila, she pulls Zeppy to her chest and she begins to sob "Am I not enough? I told her after the last time if she used again that's it...I'm cutting her out of my life"
It breaks Laila's heart to see her niece like this.
Why can't she see what an amazing daughter, she has!?

When You Know, You Know
Characters: Sebastian Stan x Suzanne Annucci (second person; you; you’re)
Word Count: 3.8k
Warnings: romantic fluff, sex, unprotected sex, oral (fem!recieving), slow sex
Summary: You’re officially not in renal failure anymore, so you decide to celebrate with Sebastian just by being by his side and living your life. Six months down the line, and you get to experience life greatest gifts, now that you’re not dying anymore.
Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Part Four
Author’s Note: This is the fifth part of seven parts of the commission for @sea040561.
You’ve been away from the hospital for so long now, you forget how a doctor’s hands feel. Dr. Patterson’s hands are ice cold as they poke around the incision site to see if it’s properly healed or not. You’ve been going on for six months with your new kidney, and you couldn’t have been happier about it. After he checks you, he checks Sebastian’s wound, and he pulls away with a bright smile.
“I can officially say it’s a likely chance you’ll never have to do a dialysis session ever again.”
A wave of tears overcome you, and you put a hand to your mouth. You’ve waited so long for a doctor to tell you that. Sebastian knows how overwhelming this is, so all he does is rub your back in a comforting way.
“Your kidney is working perfectly. Sebastian must have been a perfect match,” he chuckles.
“He was,” you whimper happily.
“As for you, Sebastian, your incision site is healing quite nicely. I’d like to do a follow-up in another six months. After that, you’ll only come in if it starts to bother you or if you get sick.”
“Yes, sir,” Sebastian nods.
“Just make sure you’re taking all the medication, and I’d like for you to still record your temperature and blood pressure every day. You don’t have to send me the records, but if there is anything suspicious, then please come see me.”
“You got it doc,” you chuckle.
“Congratulations, Suzanne.”
He discharges you and Sebastian soon after, and you’ve never been so happy to go home. After that first kiss you two shared, you started dating. It’s been rocky at first because of how crazy his life is, but you’re managing it in a healthy way. You’re going from being alone your whole life to surrounded by people. It’s not an easy change, but Sebastian is helping you through it as best as he can.
It’s wild to think that you were watching movies with Sebastian, Chris, Anthony, and all of the other cast members you love so much to actually hanging out with them. Chris has been such a sweetheart since you met him, welcoming you with open arms. You’ve looked up to these people and their characters, so to say it was overwhelming is an understatement.
You’ve done more in the past six months than you’ve done in your entire life. You’ve been to parties, met actors outside of Marvel, been to events and award shows, and traveled to more places than just the grocery store and back. Sebastian has been nothing but kind to you from the moment you met, so you don’t want to complain about all of this, but you’re not used to getting this much attention.
Sebastian tries to keep you out of it as much as possible, but you’re in this relationship for better or for worse. As long as you have him by your side, then you can conquer anything. Speaking of parties, Sebastian promised to attend this party well before he even met you. It’s a formal black-tie optional event, so that means you need a really nice dress to compliment yourself. He’s picked out some good ones, but you kind of want to be fancy yet make it your own.
That’s why you decided to add a bit of lace to your dress. Your dress consists of a flowery-lace collar that extends to half your body, giving it the impression that you’re wearing a dress with one strap that lays across your chest. It’s black with a flowery pattern all the way to your ankles. Starting from your mid-thigh, there is a slit all the way to the bottom that shows off your legs whenever you walk. You’re wearing dark purple wedges to compliment it. You like how it looks on you, and Sebastian couldn’t agree more.
He’s having a hard time as it is to keep his hands off you, but since you two haven’t done anything intimate, he holds himself back. It’s not that you don’t want to, you do, but your disease has always stopped you from going too far with a man. You’re a virgin, but not because you were saving yourself. It was because of your medical problems. Now that it’s no longer an issue, you’re scared of what Sebastian will think once he gets you into his bed.
Will he hate being with a woman who has no experience? Will you not be able to perform well because your new kidney is still “new”? There’s a lot of reason why you’re nervous, but you just have to take this one day at a time. Like right now. All you need to do is get through this party. Talk to some people, eat good food, and have a good time.
“Are you sure you want to go? I can cancel,” Sebastian says when Chris heads down to the limo.
“It’s too late for that, but yeah. I think it could be fun.”
Sebastian takes your hand and leads you down to the limo. It’s a short ride, but everything in a limo makes it feel longer than it really is. When you arrive, there are cameras flashing in every direction, but you try to ignore them. If you had to pick what is the worst thing about Sebastian’s life, it would be how many cameras are in his face.
“Just ignore them,” he mutters into your ear as you walk up the steps.
“I am.”
The party is in full swing. Lights are colorful and flashing everywhere, there is a huge buffet set up towards the back, lots of tables and chairs for people to sit at and eat, a huge dancefloor in the middle of the room, and loud music that feels like it’s pumping through you. You can feel the bass vibrate your bones, it’s that powerful.
All of Sebastian’s friends are here. You’ve met and gotten to know Chris Evans and his brother Scott, Anthony Mackie is a gem to be around, Tom Holland is younger than you but closer to your age than Sebastian is, and Elizabeth Olsen is all smiles and jokes as usual. If you’re being honest, Elizabeth is just a year older than you, so you connect more with her than anyone else.
As soon as she sees you, she comes over with a big smile on her face. You’ve always told her how pretty her smile is.
“I can’t believe you came!” she hugs you tightly.
“How could I miss this?” you joke.
“I’m stealing your date,” she says to Sebastian.
“I’ll find you later, okay?” you say to him before Elizabeth practically drags you away from everyone else.
“I didn't think you were going to come.”
“I didn't either, but Sebastian and I are going on steady now. I have to get used to this if I’m going to be with him.”
She takes you to the back of the line for the buffet. It moves quickly, so you make small talk until you can get to a table and sit down and actually chat with her.
“How did the doctor’s appointment go?”
“I’m not a person that has ESRD anymore.”
“I am so happy for you!!” she squeals.
“I never thought I would get to be able to say that. Sebastian saved my life.”
“That shit is what movies are made of. Pitch that idea,” she chuckles.
“I’m sure there is a movie about it already.”
Elizabeth grabs two plates and hands one to you. There are things you’re able to eat here, so you grab those first before spotting the sugary-sweet items that don’t fail to make your mouth water. Elizabeth notices the way you’re staring at the cupcakes as if it’s the only thing you can think about.
“You want one?” she asks.
“You know, I haven’t had one in such a long time,” you say, tears building up in your eyes.
Elizabeth sees how emotional you get, and she just smiles knowingly. She knows you can have things you couldn’t have before, so she grabs two cupcakes and puts on on your plate.
“It’s a celebration cupcake. You did it. You beat it.”
“Thank you,” you whisper.
She leads the way to an empty table, taking it before someone else can. You’re about to dig in when you spot Sebastian with Chris and Anthony on the other end of the room. You hold up the cupcake and smile, and he just gives you two thumbs up. He’s your biggest supporter, and you don’t know where you’d be without him.
The rest of the night goes off without a hitch, and you actually find yourself having fun here. By the time it hits ten at night, the party is slowly dying. Normally, these parties go on until sunrise, but people have shit to do in the morning. Tom, Elizabeth, and Anthony have left for the night. Chris left with his brother since he’s staying over at his place, so if you wanted to, you and Sebastian can have the whole night alone to yourselves at his place.
Since the party is kind of dying down, you and Sebastian decided to take a break and chat on the balcony. The moon is at its peak, shining bright in the sky. It’s not cloudy for a change, so you can see the stars sparkle all around it. It’s a beautiful night.
“How are you feeling?”
“Better than I have ever felt in such a long time. I think I can love these things,” you chuckle.
“Good. I’m glad.”
“And I love you.”
You take that leap of faith. You’re wearing your heart on your sleeve, bare to whoever so much as glances at it. Sebastian snaps his head to you, not sure if he heard you correctly. His brain tries to catch up with your words, and when it does, he smiles widely. He’s loved you the minute he laid eyes on you, but he’s been waiting for you to say it. Love knows no time, so it doesn’t matter if three weeks have passed or three years--when you know, you know.
“I love you so much,” he whispers.
You set your glass of champagne on the edge of the balcony to embrace him. He accepts you into his arms, and you meet him in the middle for a passionate kiss. Your arms wrap around his neck, and he presses you flush against his body by pulling in your hips to meet his. Every kiss with him feels like the first one. They all hold that spark of passion--a little cradle of love.
He shifts you so that you’re pressed against the balcony edge. You’re so caught up in him that you don’t realize just how close you are to your glass. Your back knocks into it, and it flies off the balcony. You’re only on the second floor, but it feels like you’re a thousand feet in the air.
You pull away from Sebastian to stare at your descending glass. When it hits the pavement, it shatters into a million pieces. Thankfully, no one was around to get hurt by the blast. You and Sebastian go into a fit of giggles, and he wraps an arm around your shoulders.
“Let’s go home.”
Home is wherever he is. Home is your place. Home is his place. Home is the airplane that gets you to different events. Home is wherever your heart lies. It lies with Sebastian as his does with you. He takes you back to his apartment with the question lingering in the air: will you two finally do it knowing that you’re completely safe to do so?
You’re still nervous to go there with someone just in case something bad happens, but you trust Sebastian to take care of you. He can feel how nervous you are despite sitting right next to you on the bed. You’re fumbling with your hands, something you do when you’re not sure how to handle a situation. He reaches over and grabs them, and you turn to face him.
“I’ve never done it,” you blurt. He blinks once, and you scramble to explain yourself. “Not that I’m scared or waiting, but it was because of my medical conditions. I mean I’ve done other stuff, but I’ve never been able to go there with a man before. I’ve always been afraid my kidneys would just stop working.”
“You’re fine now. You have a working kidney.”
“Exactly. I have no viable reason to keep living my life as a virgin.”
“No, you don’t,” he whispers.
“I want you to be my first.”
“Are you sure?”
“I’ve never been more sure about anything in my entire life. You own my heart, Seb, and I want you to own my body.” You pause, thinking about how your words could have been perceived. “That came out wrong.”
“I know you mean,” he laughs. “And while we’ll have plenty of time to explore that side of you, we’ll take it slow tonight if that’s okay with you.”
“That’s perfect,” you smile.
Just like that, the tension mists away, and in its place, love. Sebastian takes the lead seeing this is your first time doing this, but he handles you with care, treating you as if you’ll shatter in his hands. He kisses you slowly, lowering you onto the bed. He takes special care in how he handles your body.
You thought you would be scared, but the truth is, you’re completely comfortable. You arch your back so that Sebastian can reach around your body and unzip your dress. The cool metal on your skin raises goosebumps on your arms, but Sebastian’s light touch sends shivers down your spine. He grabs the collar and slowly peels it down your body.
You’re only wearing panties since the dress could have been worn without a bra. Your breasts bounce free from the tight dress, but you’re no shy about it. You thought you would be, but with Sebastian, you’re okay with anything that happens. He tosses your dress to the side and stands up, admiring your body and everything it has to give. He loosens his tie and removes it, slowly unbuttoning his dress shirt next.
“Let me,” you whisper and sit up.
You replace his hands, continuing the path his fingers were set on. You make quick work, sliding his shirt off his shoulder with ease. You hook your hands into the waistband of his pants and pull him closer, his lips landing on yours. He takes back dominance and lays you back on the bed, falling on top of you. His strong arms hold himself up on either side of your head, and you admire the muscles begging to be touched.
He breaks apart from the kiss, but he doesn't stop there. He presses his lips against the base of your throat, nibbling on a patch of skin. Your mouth forms an ‘o’, but no noises out of it. Sebastian looks up to watch his reaction the further he goes down. He doesn't quite give you what you need. He teases you by kissing around your breasts to the valley of them. Your soft whimpers fuel his ego but not in a bad way.
“Sebastian, please,” you whisper.
He latches onto your right nipple, pulling it away from your skin with his lips. Since this is all new to you, this is the best thing to happen to your body. You express this with a soft moan. He keeps his eyes on you as he nibbles on it to get it as hard as he can. He tweaks the other one with his left hand, tugging and pinching it to get the same effect.
“Fuck, Seb.”
“You’ve seen nothing yet, darling,” he chuckles.
“Then show me.”
He releases your nipple so he can kiss all the way down to the hem of your panties. He can smell your arousal from where he is, filling his senses to the point where he just wants to grab you and have his way with you. There is another time for that, Sebastian. Just focus on her.
“Are you sure?” he asks.
“Yes, please,” you beg.
He slides your panties down your legs before spreading them so that you’re exposed to him. If he thought you smelled delicious, then the sight of you is ravishing. Your pussy glistens, begging for his attention. He runs two fingers through your lips, and you jerk from the pleasure. While locking eyes with him, he sticks those fingers into his mouth. He damn near explodes in his pants like a fucking teenager. He’s nearing forty-years-old, and you’re able to bring him back to his teen years just like that.
He knows he should take this slow, but he can’t help but give you two fingers from the start. He pushes them in deep to get you used to the feel of something long stretching you out. Your back arches from the burn, but it’s a good burn. He latches onto your clit, sucking and tugging on it with his lips. An explosion of pleasure erupts from your core, spreading out to the rest of your body like a goddamn wave. Your hand reaches down to tug at his hair, desperate to cling to something.
“Shit! Sebastian!” you moan loudly.
He moans at the taste of you, pumping his fingers faster and deeper. He curls his index finger to reach places you didn't even know excited. This is better than you could have ever imagined, and you don’t want this ending anytime soon. His tongue replaces his fingers, eager to get a better taste of you. His thumb rubs fast circles across your clit as his tongue reaches deep inside. The wet muscle clings to your walls like a piece of lint on your sweater. It’s going to be very hard to pull him away from you.
The coil inside of you grows tighter the longer he’s inside you. He knows a woman’s body better than you think he does, so he knows just when you’re close to the edge. He pulls away only to whisper something against your pussy as if it would talk back to him.
“Come.”
As if it has ears, it listens, and the coil snaps in two. Your orgasm washes over you more intensely than anything you’ve ever experienced. You arch your back as high as it can go, and Sebastian laps up every drop you’re willing to give to him. You’re so overwhelmed with the pleasure that you think tears are escaping your eyes. You’re not sure at this point, but you’re okay with it if it happened.
Sebastian pulls away once you’ve calmed down, and he kisses up your body in a trail of wet kisses. He meets your lips and immediately slides his tongue into your mouth much as he did down below. You can taste yourself on his tongue, but that only turns you on even more so.
“Let me,” you whisper, about to give him the same treatment he gave you.
“This is about you, darling. Trust me, we’ll have time for that later,” he chuckles.
He rushes to get his briefs and dress pants, eager to give you the really good stuff. His cock bounces free and slaps his lower stomach, and your eyes widen at just how big he is. Is it going to fit? Will you bleed? You hear people bleed on the first time. He sees the look in your eyes, and while he’s flattered you look like that, he wants to make sure this is what you want.
“Are you sure you want to go further?”
You know he would stop if you said no. However, you don’t ever want to stop. Fuck fear and anxiety. You’re taking this man all the way tonight.
“I’m sure,” you nod.
He grabs your hips and slides you to meet him, and with one pump, he presses the tip of his cock to your entrance. He grabs your hands and intertwines your fingers together so that when he presses in, you have something to grip. He slowly pushes himself into you, and you have to hold yourself back from crying out. It hurts, but you know it’s only temporary before the pleasure kicks in. He doesn’t stop until he’s fully sheathed inside of you.
“You’re doing great, sweetheart,” Sebastian encourages you.
Tears definitely leave your eyes this time, and he just presses kisses across your face to let you know he is there for you. His lips finally land on yours at the same time he bottoms out. He pauses, giving you time to adjust to the new feeling. It takes a few moments before you feel an angry need--a craving to have more of him.
“Please move,” you whisper.
He moves his hips slowly at first, but he knows just how big your want for him is, so he picks up the pace. You’re so intoxicating, every inch of his body is dedicated to making you feel good. He’s had sex before, a lot, but nothing compares to this moment right here. He lets go of your left hand to grip your hip to steady you before snapping his hips faster.
“Fuck!” you frag it out, throwing your head back.
He leans down and kisses your neck, settling on a patch of skin right above your collarbone. He sucks to make a bruise, his fingers grip to leave bruises, and his cock hits the back of your pussy to make you sing. Your moans and whimpers fuel him to go faster. Since this is our first time, you’re very close to the edge once again, ready to milk him until he’s dry. You’re doing things to him he hasn’t felt in years, so he’s ready whenever you are.
“Shit, you’re so fucking tight. You feel so good wrapped around my cock,” he groans.
“I think I’m close, Seb.”
“I know, darling. Come with me.”
Instead of counting down from three, he counts his thrusts. One. Two. Three. On the last one, he snaps his hips harder than the rest. Both of you tip over the edge, and you toss your head back with a loud moan. Sebastian’s groans are muffled by your neck. His cock twitches inside of you, shooting its last load into you.
“Shit,” Sebastian curses, kissing up to your lips.
“Is sex supposed to feel so… intense?”
“Not all the time. It feels like that when you’re with someone you love,” he whispers.
“I do love you,” you giggle.
“Let’s get you cleaned up. I can show you just how fun shower sex can be,” he chuckles.
“Are you this insatiable?”
“Only with you.”
He gives you Eskimo kisses before pressing his lips against yours. You’re not sure what sex is like with someone you don’t really know, but you know sex with Sebastian is the best you could ever have.
You can’t wait to have more.

Feelings
This was meant to be a fluff fic with Virgil to help cheer up @gumnut-logic but kind of went a different way as I was writing... oops! Not like I ever have any control over any of this!
Whump with a happy ending of course.
Unlike Scott and Gordon his preference for exercise was strength training over cardio. Lifting weights and on occasion younger brothers, much to their amusement. Not that it had always been that way, in high school his lap time had been one to rival Scott’s on the track.
School bullies and his love of art had shifted him away from the track though and found him spending more and more time in the weights room. Though, it was only in college that he had begun to take it seriously, any spare time devoted to working out when it seemed that music and art were no longer enough.
From then on it had stuck with him.
It was rare for music and art to not be enough, his brothers seemed to be able to pick up on his moods based on those two activities alone. Yet when he vanished down to the Island gym, it seemed that everyone knew to give him a wide berth.
So engrossed on taking his anger and frustration out on the punchbag, he didn’t hear the door open. Nor did he expect the hand on his shoulder.
It was instinct to spin, flinging his arm out as he did sending the person stumbling up into the mats.
Eyes widening he froze where he stood.
“Shit! Dad! I’m sorry, I didn’t--”
His father was smiling though as he pushed himself up on one elbow, “It’s fine, I’m fine son.”
Reaching out, Virgil hauled him upright in one easy movement, “Sorry, my mind was elsewhere.”
His father raised a knowing eyebrow, “Still out on that rig by any chance?”
Shoulders tensed at the reminder, the flame of anger relighting at the thought of how the whole thing could have been prevented, if only corporate greed hadn’t gotten in the way.
He turned back to the punch bag, eyes blurring as he caught it on its swing towards him. Setting it still he took up position, only pausing to wipe his nose on his arm. He didn’t flinch at the touch of his father’s hand on his wrist, instead glaring slightly at him.
“If they had followed protocol--” His voice cracked, cutting him off before he could finish.
“I know son,” His father nodded again, “But none of that is your fault.”
That much he knew. The anger wasn’t directed at himself. It was one of the few times that he could pinpoint where fault lay, who was responsible for the lives lost that day. It was only that kind of anger that could get him quite so wound up.
“How can money be worth more than four lives?” He grunted, shrugging his father off as he swung for the beg, “How can obvious repairs be deemed unnecessary? How can people. Just. Not. Care.”
He was aware of how his father was watching him, eyebrows furrowed in the same way that Scott’d did, arms folded, and eyes shadowed with concern. Still, he kept going. He had to keep going until he burned himself out. Otherwise the anger would just be directed elsewhere.
“You realise we can do something about it?” His father prompted, head tilting slightly, “Prompt an investigation.”
He didn’t have time to nod, but he knew it was what always happened. Someone somewhere in Tracy Industries would make a case for them and follow through until the corporate in question was shut down or taken over. He’d seen Penny do it a few times, other times he’d seen Scott overseeing transitions of power.
It didn’t bring people back from the dead though.
He threw one final punch at the bag, the sound of skin on leather cracking through the room.
Breathless and drained, he caught the bag and rested his head against the worn material. Closing his eyes he shook his head, trying to ignore the new dampness on his cheeks.
“Doesn’t change what happened.” He uttered under his breath, “Their greed will never make them feel what those four families are feeling tonight. What we’ve all felt.”
His legs buckled beneath him and he knew he had to catch himself before his father tried to. Dad was home, but he still wasn’t as strong as he once had been.
Sinking down to the floor, he accepted the comfort of the arm around his shoulders, leant into the assurance of the only person that dared to be around him whilst the anger blazed.
“It hurts,” Jeff agreed quietly, “Knowing that they’ll never understand what their actions have done to so many. That was why I had to break away from the Hood. No words, art, or music could ever make people like that understand son. No matter how much we wished it did.”
That was why he was there. His father knew. His father understood what it was like to be able to make people feel so much through the means of art and music, and the frustration when even those means couldn’t reach out to someone.
His arm squeezed his shoulders tight as he continued, “There is only one thing that can possibly make them feel what the rest of us feel is their money or their power.”
The clearing of his throat as he straightened slightly against Virgil made the younger man look up to his father.
“And if that’s the only way to make them understand, then what’s stopping us from making them feel?”
Virgil felt his eyes widen and his jaw drop slightly. His father’s eyes creased as he chuckled softly,
“What?”
He stumbled over his words, shifting to sit straight as he wiped the remaining dampness from his cheeks,
“Scott never let me do that. He always said that losing their business’ would be enough.”
Leaning back on his arms, Jeff sighed and shook his head. There was a vast difference between Scott and Virgil. Both had hearts of gold, but both felt things in different ways. Neither would ever do anything illegal, at least he hoped, but both would seek for the most just thing to be done.
Scott’s view on what was just was wildly different to Virgil’s.
“Who ever said that we had to do anything?” He smiled, “You know, over the years Parker has taught me a trick or two.”
Virgil was frowning at him as he undid the wraps from his hands, eyes still red from crying. There was caution there, an uncertainty of who to go against, his father or his big brother.
“Don’t worry son, you leave it to me and I’ll see things right. I’m sure Eos would appreciate a little challenge.”
There was a slow, cautious smile that won out against his son’s frown and Jeff had to grin. You didn’t get to the top of a business without playing dirty once in a while. Plus, if he meant keeping his son’s sane, it would so be worth it.
Standing he went to the freezer in the corner of the room, knowing from experience what was needed after a heavy session at the punch bag.
Virgil caught the ice bag easily, smiling a little more naturally as he rested it over his knuckles.
“Thanks, Dad.”
Slinging his arm back over his son’s shoulders, Jeff smiled, “Anything to make things a little more right son. Now, what about some beers and a steak dinner?”
He had to laugh at the groan of appreciation as Virgil nodded.
“Right you are then. Off for a shower with you, and I’ll meet you down in the kitchen.”
Watching him go, Jeff shook his head. Yet another thing he hadn’t been able to fix for eight years. If he could make just one thing right now he was back, it had to be better than nothing.

Early Morning—💃 anon
The party was in full swing with bottles of alcohol spread around the large frat house, the floors sticky from the spillage and the smell of smoke lingering in the air, clinging to your clothes and almost making you feel sick from how strong it was. However, the touch of David’s hands on your waist as he guided you both through the party brought enough comfort to make you stick it all out.
It was getting late into the night, almost morning, and in all honesty, you were ready to go home – mostly because you were sober – but David had not finished gathering drunken vlog footage of Zane and Heath dancing on tables or Dom’s ridiculous make-out sessions with girls. You didn’t mind waiting though as David needed the footage and it was worth it the next day when David would smile proudly of the vlog or maybe even in the future, when you were both old and could look back on all the old memories that you had shared together.
“Won’t be long now, love, then we can go home,” David said, quickly taking his camera off Zane who was dancing to some Beyoncé song, his arms and legs flying everywhere as he tried to keep in beat with the music.
You nodded towards David, letting him know your answer before looking over towards Corinna who was looking down in the dumps, more than likely over Todd.
“I’m just going to go and talk to Corinna,” you told David, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek before walking away. David nodded in acknowledgement, not paying much attention as he laughed along with everybody else. “What’s up with you then?” you asked Corinna, once you had taken a seat next to her.
Corinna looked ahead at the crowd, her eyes deadpan as she watched Todd talk to another women. Todd glanced at Corinna before going back to the other girl, not even bothering to come over and ask Corinna how she was, he could’ve at least have given her a smile.
“You are so lucky; do you know that?”
“What do you mean?” you asked, one eyebrow raised.
“You and David. He loves you to bits, thinks the world of you, never shuts up about you would do anything for you. I’ll never have a relationship like that,” she said with a discouraged smile.
“You don’t know that, Corinna. You’re still young, it’s just a matter of being with a few dickheads before you find the one for you. Yes, I was lucky, but it doesn’t mean you won’t be too. Just got to give it time, get over Todd, and find someone who treats you well.” You placed one hand on Corinna’s shoulder before leaning forward. “And if it makes you feel any better, I think that Todd still loves you, but he just can’t show it.”
“You think?”
“Yeah, I do. You just have to be patient, Corinna and – “
Before you could finish your sentence, you were interrupted by Zane falling on top of you and then down to the floor, spilling his drink all over your shoes. You looked over at Corinna before shaking your head and smiling.
“I think it’s time we go home,” you heard David say before grabbing Zane by one arm. “Do you want a lift, Corinna?”
“No, I think I’m going to stay but good luck, it looks as if you are going to need it,” she chuckled, gently kicking Zane’s leg.
It took nearly fifteen minutes to get Zane to the car, in the process losing one of his shoes and him somehow managing to injure himself.
“Get blood on my seats and you are dead, do you hear me?” David shouted back to Zane who was slumped over in the back seat.
Some incoherent words came from Zane, causing everyone in the back seats to laugh and start their own conversation which involved winding Zane up and asking him all sorts of questions. It left you and David alone in the front seats, sat in silence, as David drove though the streets and you stared out of the window.
“Are you okay?” David asked, loud enough so only you heard him. His free hand came to rest on your thigh, his fingers slowly moving around in circles in a soothing manner. “You’ve been quiet most of the night and that’s not like you.”
You leaned back in the seat and turned your head slightly to look at David, a wide grin on your face as you thought about what Corinna had said. You were lucky, so lucky.
“I just love you, that’s all.”
“And I love you, but it doesn’t explain why you’ve been so quiet all night.”
“I’ve just been admiring from a distance.”
David shook his head and chuckled as your answer before turning his focus back to the road. His eyes would occasionally move back to yours, a small smile on his face as he watched you look out of the window at all the people who were on their way home from a night out.
By the time you and David had arrived home, you were absolutely done with the night, wanting nothing more but to get into bed. Being the gentleman that he was, David walked round to your side of the car and opened the door for you, giggling when you held out your hands and waited for him to kindly help you get out of the car.
“You really that tired or are you just being lazy?” David questioned as he guided you towards the door.
“Mixture of both,” you replied before grabbing the keys from his hands as he was seemingly struggling to unlock it. “I just want my bed.”
“Is that all you want?” he whispered mischievously in your ear, pulling you back against him.
“What’s got you in the mood?”
You spun around and wrapped your arms around David’s neck, pressing an innocent kiss to his jawline. After years of being together, you could read him like a book and you knew the signs of him being turned on. You had noticed them earlier in the night – constant eye contact, frequent kisses, strong grip on your waist – but you weren’t going to do it in public, especially after the last time when poor Scott had walked in on you both. It ended up being the joke of everyone’s vlogs for a good couple of weeks, all of them refusing to shut up about it.
“Baby, you don’t have to do a lot to get me in the mood,” he replied honestly, slowly moving you back until the back of your legs hit the edge of the couch. With both hands on your waist, he lifted you up, so you were sat on the arms of the couch, your arms still wrapped around David’s neck where you were innocently playing with the longer strands of hair.
“Is that right?”
“You know it is. All you have to do is look at me and that’s it, I’m done for.”
Soft kisses were pressed against your lips which sent shivers across your body, the coldness of the night contrasting with the heat of David’s lips. You could feel yourself becoming more and more intoxicated with every kiss and touch that David placed against your body – whether it was your lips, neck or jaw. His hands moved perfectly across your skin as he cupped your cheek, causing you to tilt your head to the side to make the soft touch of his hand linger for longer against your cheek.
It was times like these that you valued more than anything. The LA sun was starting to rise and pour through the windows, radiating David in so many ways and showing off the features that you loved the most about him. It was quiet in the house, apart from the kissing and the soft hums, bringing peace for once, opposing the loud and busy days that you and David spent with everyone which was filled with laughter and fun. As much as you adored everybody in the friendship group, there was nothing better than being alone with David, the two of you in your own private bubbles away from the life of YouTube and constant partying.
You wrapped your legs around David’s waist before leaning backwards onto the sofa, David fell onto your body with an apology, but you didn’t mind, you just wanted him to kiss you all over again. David did just that as he moved so he wasn’t laying across you, giving you the chance to move further up the sofa. His lips never left yours, but they did become more desperate and more seductive, no longer sweet and innocent.
“I love you,” he whispered against you mouth as he moved the one hand that wasn’t holding him up in between your bodies. He began to hike your dress up as his mouth moved to your neck. You were breathless, unable to do anything except hold onto David and let out small moans every time his lips found the right area.
“I love you too,” you finally managed once David had removed your underwear, flinging them somewhere across the room. Your dress was hiked up around your waist, exposing yourself to David who looked at you in complete and awe. Your make-up was slightly ruined from the long night at the party and the kissing, your hair was no longer styled, and your eyes were watering, but you looked beautiful to David, you always did. “Take that bloody hat off,” you mumbled, throwing it to the side.
David giggled, the well-known wide smile on his face as he looked down at you, gulping slightly as he realised how anxious he was. He had no reason to be nervous, of course, the two of you had slept together plenty of times but it had been a long time since the two of you had done it slow and affectionately.
In hopes of calming his nerves, David gave you another powerful kiss, his tongue rolling over yours and his hands all over your body. There was not one part of your face that was left untouched. David had always been pretty handsy but tonight was another level as he felt your warm skin, his knee in between your thigh with you grinding on it without even realising, your wetness leaving a patch on David’s jeans. David’s wet lips providing open mouthed kisses along your neck, leaving marks so that you could show them off to everyone, him claiming you as his girl, and his girl only.
It wasn’t until David freed himself, his arousal obvious as you looked down, smirking along with David that you truly realised how much you needed him. A couple of curse words slipped from your mouth as David entered you, giving you back the feeling that you enjoyed so much. Your fingers were tangled in David’s long hair, pulling on the locks every time he hit the right spot inside of you.
Above you, David was a vocal mess. He had needed you all night, longing and desperate to feel your touch without having everyone stare at you both and now that it was here, he felt as if he had died and gone to heaven. The feeling of your soft thighs against his body as you pushed yourself up, begging David to go faster, was God like. You were his angel, in more ways than one, and he loved you more than anything in the world. No women would ever compare to you.
“Right there,” you whispered into his neck, your fingernails digging into the back of his neck which would leave marks, but you were both too in the moment to focus on that.
David’s moans and grunts in your ear was slowly bringing you to the edge, there was no better sound or feeling than the man that you adored above you, his walls falling as he repeatedly whispered that he loved you, over and over and over again. His mouth was slightly open, his cheeks flushed, and a layer of sweat was building up on his forehead, causing his hair to stick to the skin. He looked like an angel to you.
Your clothed chest was pressed against David’s when you came, clinging onto him for dear life as you felt your whole body set on fire. It was almost as if you had passed out, your orgasm so powerful, you couldn’t hear anything, but the loud moan David released when he always reached his peak. It was the best sex you had ever had, so simple yet so intimate and loving.
The two of you laid there for a few more minutes in complete silence, after David had got you a blanket, the only sound was the two of you trying to get your breath back. David’s head was rested on your chest as you played around with his hair, smiling softly to yourself. The sun was now fully risen, and it was hitting David’s face perfectly. You were in complete and utter awe as Corinna’s words swirled around in your head. You probably were the luckiest women on the planet.

Melissa Arnette (Missy) Elliott (born July 1, 1971), often known professionally as Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, is an American rapper, dancer, and record producer. Elliott embarked on her music career with all-female R&B group Sista in the early 1990s and later became a member of the Swing Mob collective along with childhood friend and longtime collaborator Timbaland, with whom she worked on projects for Aaliyah, 702, Total, and SWV. Following several collaborations and guest appearances, she launched her solo career in 1997 with her debut album Supa Dupa Fly, which spawned the hit singles "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)" and "Sock It 2 Me". The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, the highest-charting debut for a female rapper at the time.
Elliott's following album Da Real World (1999), produced the singles "She's a Bitch", "All n My Grill", and top five hit "Hot Boyz" The remix broke the record for most weeks at number-one on the US R&B chart on the issue dated January 15, 2000; as well as spending 18 weeks at number one on the Hot Rap Singles from December 4, 1999 to March 25, 2000, which is still the longest reign at number one to date on that chart. With the release of Miss E... So Addictive (2001), Under Construction (2002), and This Is Not a Test! (2003) Elliott established an international career that yielded hits including "Get Ur Freak On", "One Minute Man", "4 My People", "Gossip Folks", and "Work It". The latter won her a Grammy Award for Best Female Rap Solo Performance; Elliott went on to win four Grammy Awards and sell over 30 million records in the United States. Elliott is not only a trailblazer, but a record-holder, reigning as the best-selling female rap album artist in Nielsen Music history
Early life
Melissa Arnette Elliott was born on July 1, 1971, in Portsmouth, Virginia. She is the only child of mother Patricia Elliott, a power-company dispatcher, and father Ronnie, a U.S. Marine no longer on active duty working as a Shipyard welder. Elliott grew up in an active church choir family, and singing was a normal part of her youth. At the age of four in 1975, she wanted to be a performer, and, as biographer Veronica A. Davis writes, she "would sing and perform for her family". In later years, she feared no one would take her seriously, because she was always the class clown. While her father was an active Marine, the family lived in Jacksonville, North Carolina, in a manufactured home community. Elliott blossomed during this part of her life. She enjoyed school for the friendships she formed though she had little interest in school work. She would later get well above average marks on intelligence tests, and she was advanced two years ahead of her former class. Her move in grades caused isolation, and she purposely failed, eventually returning to her previous class. When her father returned from the Marines, they moved back to Virginia, where they lived in extreme poverty.
Life in Virginia saw many hardships. Elliott tells of domestic abuse by her father. She refused to stay over at friends' homes out of fear that, on her return home, she would find her mother dead. When Elliott was eight, she was molested by a cousin. In one violent incident, Ronnie Elliott dislocated his wife's shoulders and, during another, Elliott herself was threatened with a gun. At fourteen, Elliott's mother decided to end the situation; she fled with her daughter under the guise of taking a joyride on a local bus. In reality, the pair had found refuge at a family member's home where their possessions were stored in a loaded U-Haul truck. Elliott tells that she feared her father would kill them both for leaving.
She later stated, "When we left, my mother realized how strong she was on her own, and it made me strong. It took her leaving to realize."
Elliott graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Virginia, in 1990.
Career
1989–95: Sista and career beginnings
In the early 1990s Elliott formed an all female R&B group, called Fayze (later renamed Sista), with friends La'Shawn Shellman, Chonita Coleman, and Radiah Scott. She recruited her neighborhood friend Timothy Mosley (Timbaland) as the group's producer and began making demo tracks, among them included the promo "First Move". In 1991, Fayze caught the attention of Jodeci member and producer DeVante Swing by performing Jodeci songs a cappella for him backstage after one of his group's concerts. In short order, Fayze moved to New York City and signed to Elektra Records through DeVante's Swing Mob imprint, also renaming the group Sista. Sista debut song was titled "Brand New" released in 1993 Elliott took Mosley—whom DeVante re-christened Timbaland—and their friend Melvin "Magoo" Barcliff along with her.
All 20-plus members of the Swing Mob—among them future stars such as Ginuwine, Playa, and Tweet—lived in a single two-story house in New York and were often at work on material both for Jodeci and their own projects. While Elliott wrote and rapped on Raven-Symoné's 1993 debut single, "That's What Little Girls Are Made Of", she also contributed, credited and uncredited, to the Jodeci albums Diary of a Mad Band (1993) and The Show, the After Party, the Hotel (1995). Timbaland and DeVante jointly produced a Sista album, entitled 4 All the Sistas Around da World (1994). Elliott met R&B artist Mary J. Blige while Blige was in sessions for her second album My Life. Though videos were released for the original and remix versions of the single "Brand New", the album was shelved and never released. One of the group's tracks, "It's Alright" featuring Craig Mack, did however make the cut on the soundtrack of the 1995 motion picture Dangerous Minds. But by the end of 1995, Swing Mob had folded and many of its members dispersed; Elliott, Timbaland, Magoo, Ginuwine, and Playa remained together and collaborated on each other's records for the rest of the decade as the musical collective The Superfriends.
1996–98: Supa Dupa Fly
After leaving Swing Mob, Elliott and Timbaland worked together as a songwriting/production team, crafting tracks for acts including SWV and 702, but the most notable of them was Aaliyah. The pair wrote and produced nine tracks for Aaliyah's second album, One in a Million (1996), among them the hit singles "If Your Girl Only Knew", "One in a Million", "Hot Like Fire", and "4 Page Letter". Elliott contributed background vocals and/or guest raps to nearly all of the tracks on which she and Timbaland worked. One in a Million went double platinum and made stars out of the production duo. Elliott and Timbaland continued to work together for other artists, later creating hits for artists such as Total ("What About Us?", 1997), Nicole Wray ("Make It Hot", 1998), and Destiny's Child ("Get on the Bus", 1998), as well as one final hit for Aaliyah, "I Care 4 U" before her death in 2001. Elliott began her career as a featured vocalist rapping on Sean "Puffy" Combs's Bad Boy remixes to Gina Thompson's "The Things That You Do", (which had a video featuring cameo appearances by Notorious B.I.G and Puff Daddy), MC Lyte's 1996 hit single "Cold Rock a Party" (backup vocals by Gina Thompson), and New Edition's 1996 single "You Don't Have to Worry". Combs had hoped to sign Elliott to his Bad Boy record label. In addition Elliott written the bulk of Total's second and final album Kima, Keisha, and Pam and Nicole Wray's debut Make It Hot (both released in 1998).
Also, that year Elliott appeared on the Men of Vizion's remix of "Do Thangz" which was produced by Rodney Jerkins (coincidentally the producer of the original version of "The Things That You Do"). She instead signed a deal with East West Records, a division of Elektra Entertainment Group at that time, in 1996 to create her own imprint, The Goldmind Inc., for which she would record as a solo artist. Timbaland was again recruited as her production partner, a role he would hold on most of Elliott's solo releases. Missy also appeared in LSG's song "All the Time" with Gerald Levert, Keith Sweat, Johnny Gill, Faith Evans, and Coko in 1997 on Levert Sweat Gill classic album. The same year, she rapped in "Keys To My House" with old friends group LeVert. In the center of a busy period making guest appearances and writing for other artists, Elliott's debut album, Supa Dupa Fly, was released in mid-1997; the success of its lead single "The Rain" led the album to be certified platinum.
The success was also a result of the music videos of her single releases which had been directed by Harold "Hype" Williams, who created many groundbreaking hip hop, or arguably more specifically Afrofuturistic, videos at the time. The album was also nominated for Best Rap Album at the 1998 Grammy Awards, but lost to Puff Daddy's No Way Out. The year also saw Elliott perform live at the MTV Video Music Awards show on a remix to Lil' Kim's "Ladies Night" with fellow rappers Da Brat, Angie Martinez and TLC-rapper Left Eye. In 1998, Elliott continued her successful career in the background as a producer and writer on Total's single "Trippin'", as well as working with several others in the hip-hop and R&B communities. Elliott co-wrote and co-produced two tracks on Whitney Houston's 1998 album My Love Is Your Love, providing vocal cameos for "In My Business" and "Oh Yes". The same year, Elliott also produced and made a guest appearance on Spice Girl Melanie Brown's debut solo single, "I Want You Back", which topped the UK Singles Chart.
1999–2001: Da Real World and Miss E… So Addictive
Although a much darker album than her debut, Elliott's second album was just as successful as the first, selling 1.5 million copies and 3 million copies worldwide. She remarked, "I can't even explain the pressure. The last album took me a week to record. This one took almost two months…I couldn't rush it the second time because people expect more." Da Real World (1999) included the singles "All n My Grill", a collaboration with Nicole Wray and Big Boi (from OutKast), a remix to "Hot Boyz" and "She's a Bitch". Also in 1999, Elliott was featured, alongside Da Brat, on the official remix to a Mariah Carey single "Heartbreaker".
Missy Elliott next released Miss E... So Addictive in 2001. The album spawned the massive pop and urban hits "One Minute Man", featuring Ludacris and Trina, and "Get Ur Freak On", as well as the international club hit "4 My People" and the less commercially successful single "Take Away". The double music video for "Take Away/4 My People" was released in the fall of 2001, shortly after the 9-11 terrorist attacks and the death of Elliott's friend Aaliyah in August. The "Take Away" video contained images of and words about Aaliyah, and the slow ballad acted as a tribute to her memory. The remainder of the video was the more upbeat "4 My People", contained scenes of people dancing happily in front of American flags and Elliott dressed in red, white and blue. Though "Take Away" was not a success on radio, "4 My People" went on to become an American and European club hit due to a popular remix by house music duo Basement Jaxx in 2002.
Tweet's appearance on Elliott's "Take Away" as well as her cameo at Elliott's house on MTV Cribs helped to create a buzz about the new R&B singer. Tweet's own debut single, "Oops (Oh My)", was co-written by Elliott and released through Goldmind in February 2002. The single was a top ten hit, thanks partially to Elliott's songwriting and guest rap, and to Timbaland's unusual production on the track. Elliott co-produced the Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mýa and Pink cover of "Lady Marmalade" for the album Moulin Rouge! Music from Baz Luhrmann's Film, which went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2001.
2002–04: Under Construction and This Is Not a Test!
For her next outing, Elliott and Timbaland focused on an old school sound, utilizing many old school rap and funk samples, such as Run–D.M.C.'s "Peter Piper" and Frankie Smith's "Double Dutch Bus." Elliott's fourth album, 2002's Under Construction (see 2002 in music) is known as the best selling female rap album with 2.1 million copies sold in the United States. In 2002, Elliott won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance for "Get Ur Freak On". In 2003, Under Construction received Grammy nominations for Best Rap Album and Album of the Year. The New York Times designated Under Construction "this year's best hip-hop album." Elliott released two singles off of Under Construction. The lead single, "Work It" reached #2 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and won the "Video of the Year" award at MTV's Video Music Awards. The second single, "Gossip Folks" featuring Ludacris, became a Top 10 hit on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, was one of the most-played music videos on MTV, MTV2, MTV Jams, and BET in 2003 and was embraced by the dance community, as well as the mainstream, due to a Fatboy Slim remix. A third single was never released, though a video was shot for "Back In The Day" featuring Jay-Z and Elliott was set to release the sexual-themed, "P***ycat", as the album's final single with a remixed version featuring Janet Jackson. Although not released as single and with no video, "Pussycat" peaked at number 77 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In between albums, Elliott produced the "American Dream Remix" (featuring Tweet's additional vocals) of Madonna's single "American Life," was featured rapper on Timbaland & Magoo's return single, "Cop That Shit", and produced "Fighting Temptation" (featuring herself, Beyoncé, Free and MC Lyte) for the soundtrack to the Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Beyoncé Knowles movie of the same name. The track reached #1 in Japan but failed to chart in the U.S. Hot 100. Elliott was also featured on Wyclef Jean's "Party to Damascus" and Ghostface Killah's "Tush" singles, the latter of which became a minor 2004 dance hit, and had a pivotal role in the film Honey. Gap approached Elliott later in the year to co-star in a commercial with Madonna, which received much media attention. Elliott furthered her relationship with Madonna by performing the controversial 2003 MTV Video Music Awards show opening alongside Madonna, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
A year after Elliott's most successful album to date was released, Elliott felt pressured by her label to release another album, hoping to capitalize on her recent success. Elliott's singles, "Pass That Dutch" and "I'm Really Hot", from her fifth album, This Is Not a Test! (released November 2003), both rose the urban charts. However, both were not as successful at pop radio in comparison to many of her previous efforts. This Is Not A Test sold 690,000 copies in the United States and has been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Elliott has since stated "This Is Not A Test! came out extremely too quickly for me. I didn't want it to come out when it did." In 2004, Elliott was featured on Ciara's hit single "1, 2 Step", with her verse interpolating Teena Marie's single, "Square Biz". Elliott premiered her own reality show on the UPN Network, The Road to Stardom with Missy Elliott in 2005, though it was not renewed for a second season.
2005–06: The Cookbook and Respect M.E.
Elliott wanted to "give people the unexpected" by utilizing producers other than Timbaland and a "more to the center" sound not as far left as her other music. Her sixth solo album, The Cookbook was released in July 2005, debuted at number two on the U.S. charts and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), selling 645,000 copies in the United States. Elliott's work during The Cookbook era was heavily recognized. Elliott received 5 Grammy nominations in 2005, including one for Best Rap Album for The Cookbook. The album's first single, "Lose Control," won a Grammy for Best Short Form Video and was nominated for Best Rap Song. "Lose Control" also garnered Elliott six 2005 MTV VMA award nominations (winning Best Dance Video and Best Hip-Hop Video). Elliott won Best Female Hip Hop Artist at the 2005 American Music Awards, and was nominated for Best International Female Artist at the 2006 BRIT Awards.
"Lose Control" featuring Ciara and Fatman Scoop, became a Top 5 hit in the early summer (peaking at number three on the Billboard Hot 100). The second single, Teary Eyed, did not chart, although the video charted on MTV's TRL for a few weeks, and BET's 106 & Park for a few days. The third single, "We Run This", was released with heavy airplay on VH1, MTV, and BET. It served as the lead single for the soundtrack to the gymnastics-themed film Stick It. The song was also nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Rap Solo Performance category in 2006. Respect M.E., Elliott's first greatest hits album, was released outside the United States and Canada on September 4, 2006, only in South Africa, Australia, Europe, Japan, and Brazil. The collection became her second top ten album in the UK and her highest charting album to date, peaking at number seven there.
2007–14: Production work
Elliott was an honoree of the 2007 VH1 Hip Hop Honors. In honor of her career, many artists performed some of her biggest hits. Timbaland and Tweet performed "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)", Eve and Keyshia Cole performed "Hot Boyz" and "Work It", Fatman Scoop and Ciara performed "Lose Control", and Nelly Furtado performed "Get Ur Freak On (The Remix)." Since 2007, Elliott's seventh studio album has had several different forms with extensive delays. In 2007, she worked with Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, Danja, T-Pain and DJ Toomp and planned to release an album at the beginning of 2008. In January 2008, "Ching-a-Ling" was released as the lead single for the Step Up 2: The Streets soundtrack, which also featured "Shake Your Pom Pom" produced by Timbaland. While Elliott did also release the song "Best, Best" in 2008, she renamed the album from FANomenal to its current tentative title to Block Party in 2008. She later decided against Block Party and four years later, in 2012, Elliott released two Timbaland-produced singles ("9th Inning" and "Triple Threat") exclusively to iTunes. Though the songs managed to chart on Billboard Hot Digital Songs, in an interview with Yahoo's The Yo Show, Missy talked about her hiatus from making records: "Your brain needs time to refresh! Things happen in your life where you can then write something else instead of the same three topics. Like, how many times we gonna talk about the club? I gotta feel like what I'm giving the fans is 100 percent and that it's game-changing. I don't just throw out microwave records."
In between the recording of her seventh album, Missy Elliott found success behind the scenes. Elliott's writing and production helped her reach #1 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs with Keyshia Cole's "Let It Go" (2007), Jazmine Sullivan's "Need U Bad" (2008), and Monica's "Everything to Me" (2010). Since 2008, songs written and/or produced by Elliott for Fantasia ("Free Yourself"), Jennifer Hudson ("I'm His Only Woman"), Monica ("Everything to Me"), Keyshia Cole ("Let It Go"), and Jazmine Sullivan ("Need U Bad" and "Holding You Down (Goin' in Circles)") have all received Grammy nominations. Both Fantasia's "Free Yourself" (2005) and Sullivan's "Holding You Down (Goin' In Circles)" reached #3 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. In the summer of 2010, Elliott embarked on a two part tour with stops in Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia, while she also performed at VH1's "Hip Hop Honors: The Dirty South" in a tribute to Timbaland, performing "Get Ur Freak On" and "Work It". In 2008 she made an appearance in "Whatcha Think About That" by The Pussycat Dolls, and performed live in different places with them. In 2011 and 2012, Elliott made guest appearances on "All Night Long" by Demi Lovato, "Nobody's Perfect" by J. Cole, the remix of "Why Stop Now" by Busta Rhymes with Chris Brown and Lil Wayne, and a remix of Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" that helped catapult "T.G.I.F." to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. She also produced Monica's singles "Anything (To Find You)" and "Until It's Gone".
Throughout 2013, Missy Elliott was featured on Eve's album cut "Wanna Be," as well as international artists' singles, Little Mix's "How Ya Doin'?" and "NiLiria" with K-pop musician G-Dragon, which was named by Complex magazine as one of the "50 Best Songs of 2013". Elliott also contributed to her protégée Sharaya J's two releases, "Banji" and "Smash Up The Place/Snatch Yo Wigs". In December 2013, Elliott received a Grammy nomination with Fantasia and Kelly Rowland for their song "Without Me". As early as July 2013, Missy Elliott and Timbaland held recording sessions for Kat Dahlia's debut, My Garden (2015). In August 2013, R&B singer Faith Evans revealed that Missy Elliott would be featured on her sixth studio album, tentatively titled Incomparable. In March 2014, Evans revealed one of the tracks was named "I Deserve It", featuring Missy and her protégée Sharaya J, in which Evans cited it as a "banger" and "feel good" record. Evans also revealed that in total Elliott contributed three tracks to her album. On July 7, 2014, fellow R&B singer Monica confirmed that Elliott would be a feature on her upcoming eighth studio album. On July 29, 2014, a snippet of a Missy Elliott–produced song, nicknamed "I Love Him", premiered on Monica's official Instagram account.
2015–present: Upcoming seventh studio album
In 2015, Missy Elliott performed at the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show with Katy Perry. Elliott performed a medley of "Get Ur Freak On", "Work It", and "Lose Control". The performance was well-received, and boosted digital sales of Elliott's work that week, with a twenty-five-fold increase in album sales (to 2,000 units) and a ten-fold increase in sales of the three songs she performed (to 71,000 units) compared to the week before. It also became the most watched Super Bowl halftime show in NFL history, receiving 118.5 million viewers in the United States. On February 3, 2015, it was confirmed that Elliott would be a feature on the upcoming remix to Diplo and Skrillex's "Take Ü There". On February 11, Elliott stated that she was still in the process of recording her seventh studio album, Block Party, with Timbaland. On April 2, 2015, Pharrell Williams confirmed that he was working on Elliott's album during an episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. On November 12, 2015, "WTF (Where They From)" and its music video were simultaneously released to digital outlets. By November 19, the song and its video had been streamed 6.1 million times in the US alone, with an additional count of 16 million views per YouTube viewing.
On February 7, 2016, the day of the fiftieth Super Bowl, Missy Elliott released a promotional single, "Pep Rally". Later that month, Elliott reunited with former protégée Tweet and frequent collaborator Timbaland on the cut "Somebody Else Will" taken from the former's third studio album, Charlene. By March 15, 2016, First Lady Michelle Obama proclaimed that she had assembled a collaborative track featuring vocals from Missy Elliott, Kelly Clarkson, Janelle Monáe and Zendaya, alongside production credit from pop songwriter Diane Warren and Elliott, titled "This Is for My Girls". The iTunes-exclusive record will be used to both coincide with Ms. Obama's SXSW speech and to promote her third-world educational initiative "Let Girls Learn".
Following a surprise appearance with TLC on the 2016 televised special Taraji's White Hot Holidays, Elliott announced plans to release a documentary chronicling her impact on the production scene in both audio and video. The midnight of January 27, 2017, saw the full-length release to a new Elliott single titled "I'm Better", featuring production and vocal assistance from recurring sideman Lamb and shared directing credit by Elliott and longtime colleague Dave Meyers.
Personal life
Elliott has said that she wants to start a family, but she is afraid of giving birth. She stated, "I don't know if I can take that kind of pain [of labor]. Maybe in the year 2020 you could just pop a baby out and it'd be fine. But right now I'd rather just adopt." Elliott and her father occasionally talk, but the singer says she has not forgiven him.
In June 2011, Elliott told People magazine that her absence from the music industry was due to a hyperthyroidism disorder known as Graves' disease. She was diagnosed after she nearly crashed a car from having severe leg spasms. She experienced severe symptoms from the condition, and she could not even hold a pen up to write songs. After treatment, her symptoms stabilized, and she has announced that she would like to get back to her career.
Other ventures
Biographical film
In 2005, it was announced that there are plans to make a biographical film about the life story of Elliott and is to be shown in theaters. Producers include Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal, and the film is being written and directed by Diane Houston. In mid-June 2007, Elliott said she was still working on the script with Diane Houston in order "to come up with the right stuff 'cause I don't want it to be watered down. I want it to be raw and uncut the way my life was" Initially, it seemed Timbaland wouldn't be a part of the movie. When Missy asked him, he refused, citing he felt it dramatized his character; "the movie is about her life, her story, that goes deeper than putting me into the movie". However, Timbaland has since stated that he would reconsider if she could get others, including Ginuwine and Magoo to sign on.
Philanthropy
In 2002, Elliott wrote a letter on behalf of PETA to the mayor of her hometown Portsmouth, Virginia, asking that all shelter animals be neutered/spayed before being adopted. For the reality TV show The Road to Stardom, there was a contest for viewers to create a public service ad for the Break the Cycle fund.
In 2004, she joined forces with MAC Cosmetics to promote their "Viva Glam" campaign. In addition to the ad campaign, Elliott promoted the MAC Viva Glam V lipstick from which 100% of the sale goes to the MAC AIDS Fund.
In 2007, Elliott appeared on an ABC's Extreme Makeover and awarded four scholarships for a weight loss program to four underprivileged teens.

Training - Peter Hale
Request by anno Prompt - Peter trains reader but gets jealous when she smells like Derek Warnings - swearing, jealous Peter Pairing - Peter hale x reader Story
After everyone was told the was an alpha pack in town you went to the loft. Derek was your best friend and he'd trained Isaac, and some of the others but he wasn't what you needed. You walked in looking round only seeing Peter sat reading "if your looking for Derek, he's not here" Peter said without looking up from his book. You fiddled with the hem of your shirt. "I was looking for you actually" you say nervously.
This was a bad idea. You start thinking to yourself. Peter stands walking toward you "and what would Derek's little human want with me?". Your eyebrows crossed offended slightly by being called little human, but that's the reason your here you didn't want to be the little defenceless human anymore. "I need your help! I want to learn to fight and defend myself" you say firmly. Peter looked you up and down "and why would you come to me for training" his words slow and slightly intimating. "because your one of the best fighters we have and you won't go easy, if I train against you to defend myself against you, I can do it against anything" you say trying to plead to his ego. not wanting to tell anyone that after the last supernatural attack in beacon hills you was terrified off the idea of an alpha pack.
Peter tilts his had not saying anything, you hated his poker face you could never tell what he was thinking or going to do next. "I'll do it but you have to be more honest with me" he said as Derek walked in.
Few days later
Peter gave you an address to a warehouse on the edge of town, knocking on the door you was starting to doubt if this was a good idea. Peter opened the door his signature grin "I didn't think you'd come, please this way" he said closing the door behind you. Inside the was thick mats placed in the middle of the room, some gym equipment dotted around. You started with light sparing Peter teaching you a few attack moves on the punching bag. he stood close behind you correcting you body position, moving your arms showing you how to move. once he believed you was ready he told you to move to the mats, "attack me" he said standing in the middle. you ran at him throwing a punch like he'd shown you, catching you off guard he grabbed your wrist swinging you to the floor. this repeated for over an hour. "get up!" he shouted as you picked yourself up from the floor for the 20th time.
peter wasn't going light anymore your body hurt, bruises already forming on your skin, although you was lasting longer on your feet each time you got back on them. Getting a drink, looking at peter hoping for a break, he didn't give you one "we're gonna switch it up I'm going to come after you now ready" he said as you turned to face him holding your arms up defensively. He lunched forward swinging his arm, you screamed and froze scared as he hit you in the jaw, sending you across the mats.
Peter knew he shouldn't of gone so hard on you but it's what you wanted and he didn't think you would freeze, struggle maybe go down easy but to just freeze, he heard you heart beat change the worried expression you wore, he should of stopped. "y/n hey" he said worry clear in his voice, as he started helping you into a chair getting you water. "you okay what happened" he questioned. "it's nothing" you lied "come on do it again I'll be ready this time" you say partly standing before Peter's hand held you in the seat. "I thought I told you to start being honest with me y/n" he asked. You looked away when Peter's hand came to your cheek making you look at him "your afraid!" he spoke inhaling your chemo-singles but his eyes asked why?
Taking the bottle of water he had handed you taking a big swig. Not sure if it was because of the embarrassment of being knocked out or that you genuinely liked Peter you felt ready to open up to him. "the police station and Jackson" you said timidly. Peter didn't say anything he just you he waited for you. "after Jackson attacking the police station, seeing everything happen unable to move or escape. I've been terrified ever since, always looking over my shoulder, thinking I wouldn't know what to do even if something happened again, I didn't do nothing when Jackson attacked I froze, just like I did then and this was training" you said embarrassed.
Peter watched as she talked he knew what she was talking about. He remembered that night when he was told y/n was taken to hospital after the kanima attack. It was then he realised his feelings for the beautiful (y/h/c) girl was more then just like her as a friend l. He remembered watching her in the hospital room come to, hugging Derek, Peter sat wishing it was him to hold and comfort her like that. He didn't know y/n felt like this afterwards, he mentality cursed himself for not noticing before now.
You saw the pity in Peter's eyes, and this was something you didn't want. It's one of the main reasons why you went to peter and not Derek or the pack that and you also had a small crush for the former alpha. "okay we officially confirmed I'm pathetic let's get back to it" you say standing up still feeling a little dizzy. Peter saw you sway getting up holding you "well we should take that as a sign to stop" he said. You looked at him confused "I take one hit and you want to quit" you say over him. Peter laughed "no I think we should call it a day and I was about to say I'll meet you tomorrow to carry on when you can actually stand" you blushed embarrassed "oh okay yes tomorrow" you smile at him.
Over the next two months, Peter's training ran you into the ground, literally. Before each session he'd make you do run through the woods 2-3 hours before you going to the warehouse for training. Today was no different, you was half way through your run. Lungs burning you stopped for a break. Peter looked at you rolling his eyes coming over "I ask to learn to fight why do I have to run the woods for 3 hours a day" you panted still thinking how much you hated running. Peter smiled "it's needed to build up your stamina, you don't want to be ten minuets into a fight and be to tired to defend yourself because you've ran out of breath and energy along with other things," he said. you looked nodding knowing he was right. Peter however also made you run so much for other reasons. his own selfish ones, he hated how he could smell Derek on you, if peter made you run it would help lose his sent on you.
Stood on the mats ready for combat training, this had quickly became your favourite part of training, although you wouldn't admit out loud the real reason for it. Over last two weeks you had started to feel a kind of chemistry between you. Okay it wasn't as romantic as the statement says seeing as you was both trying to beat the lights out if each other, but when he had you pinned you felt this desire to kiss him when his face was inches from yours that close you could feel his breath, or when he'd trap you against the wall telling things like get out if this hold, all you could think was how Peter's hips felt pushed against yours wishing his hands was on you taking away the clothes from you.
"y/n, concentrate" Peter's word's brought you out of the current fantasy you was in. "sorry" you mumbled. "something on your mind?" he asked. This was also something new you liked Peter paid attention and tried to make you open up in a way the pack didn't. Peter wouldn't force you to talk, he wouldn't tell the rest if the group something was bothering you he's just ask once in an informal way and then drop the matter if you didn't. He also didn't tell everyone when you did open up and talk. "no just tired it's them long runs" you joked. After another hour both you and Peter was on the floor breathless. You had managed to throw him down and pin him, straddling him holding his arms over his head. You looked into his eyes forgetting everything, you moved closer wanting and planing to kiss him, your nose was touching his and Peter wasn't doing anything to stop you.
Your phone buzzed and beeped making stop and jump up off Peter, you couldn't be sure, but you thought you heard Peter growl behind you. You looked seeing missed calls from Derek and one each from Scott and stiles, "anyone interesting?" Peter asked calling it a day on training "only Derek asking where I am and if I'm okay because I'm not picking up" you answer back. When you looked up you saw Peter starting to pack away saying something you didn't hear. You saw him bend over grabbing the empty water bottles, you couldn't help but look at his ass. Peter turned and you quickly looked at your phone hoping he hadn't caught you stirring at him.
When Peter heard you say Derek he growled "it's always him" he said to himself cleaning, to hide his jealousy. He heard y/n heartbeat rise he looked to see why, his blood boiled when he saw her smiling and heart racing typing to his nephew. "you need to go I have plans and the longer your here the longer I am so can you go" Peter snapped, not being able to handle his emotions, he watched as she got her bag looking confused at him but going as fast as she could. Peter went home to his penthouse, he couldn't think straight all that was on his mind was her. It had been like this every day for the few weeks he'd go home and think of y/n imagine the things he wanted to do her how much he wanted her to be his. Tonight was different the last few weeks was easy he could just think then tell himself he didn't stand a chance but tonight y/n almost kissed him he felt it he sensed it, he know the was times before it had almost happened and Peter stopped himself going that far but today was different y/n went to kiss him. He'd never felt so happier her smiling looking into his eyes before slowly closing the about kiss him, then Derek called ruining his moment with y/n as normal it was always him. And Peter hated it, but no matter how jealous he was knew knew he shouldn't of been so harsh telling you to go. He went to bed thinking tomorrow he's apologise for his snappiness and hopefully take his chance and just kiss her she if she kisses him back.
After Peter's sudden change in attitude you left unsure what had just happened. Putting it to the back of your mind, thinking he's probably just busy, you went to Derek's to see what was so important. When you got there it was nothing that important Derek wanted to see why you had been distant lately, he didn't know your arrangement Peter. You watched a film falling asleep on the couch, you woke the next day later then normal still on Derek's couch cuddled into his chest. You jumped up leaving Derek still asleep cursing him for not waking you. No having time to go home you went straight to the wood to see Peter already waiting. "sorry I overslept" you say getting out your car.
Peter took one breath and could smell Derek's sent on you, stronger then usual. "sorry I forgot to set my alarm Derek and I watched a movie last night I fell asleep" you say. When he heard that he snarled at you "well you best get running you have time to make up" he said his voice mean and cold. You didn't question him just started to run, "faster" you heard Peter call from behind you. You looked and his eyes was blue, this didn't frightening you, the had been a few times he'd used his werewolf side in training helping you get over the fear of the supernatural world, looking at his face and tone of voice you pushed yourself faster. After the run Peter's attitude hadn't changed he'd been mean sassy all day with you "that's gonna get you killed", "not good enough again", "are you even trying or is your head still in the clouds" was the comments he'd given you. Getting pissed off and frustrated with him you huffed standing back up.
Something told you it more then being late, was the reason for his mood. It wasn't just his words that was hard, he came at you attacking you a lot rougher the in the previous weeks. It took everything you had just to block him. Peter swung his arm hitting you under the eye, you could feel it swelling already, he stopped the moment he saw how hard he'd hit you. "what the fuck Peter this is training not an actual fight" you shout moving away from him. "maybe you get your boyfriend Derek to train you instead" he snapped back at you. Confusion lined your face "what?" was all you said still processing what he's said. You felt yourself almost break, you thought you had something between you but wouldn't was wrong."I said go to Derek for training, I'm getting bored with his little human anyway!" he said turning his back on you.
There it was that comment again little human. You didn't know why it got to you so much that's how he saw you. Anger took over running at Peter you kicked the back of his leg sending him to his knees, then grabbed his hair pulling his head back to listen to you "so what if I'm little or human it doesn't mean you can take you mood out on me just because I'm human" Peter looked up smiling "I'm not taking my mood out on you and it's got nothing to do with you being human" you swiped your hand of his hair standing up. It was like a light bulb moment in your head, a repeat of all the things he'd said, the way he said the word Derek, his mood started when you said Derek texted, and when you said you stayed in Derek's. Was Peter Hale jealous of his nephew, why? Surely he knows I feel nothing for Derek, then again his werewolf senses hadn't picked up you had feelings so maybe he was jealous of Derek thoughts ran through your head. "you're jealous!" you said. He frowned his brows "no I'm not" he snapped back, you couldn't help but laugh at the childish tone that came out of him proving you right. "you are!" you say surprised "why would you be jealous of Derek I don't" you stated but Peter cut you off"
Peter knew he'd been caught out, he tried to lie his way out but it didn't work. When y/n started saying he was jealous of Derek it made him angry, and more jealous then he thought. He felt like she was mocking him for it. Before he could stop himself his eyes glowed blue and the words fell out his mouth. "jealous! Of course I'm jealous of him, you smell like him every time I'm with you and it drives me crazy y/n. You leave here smelling of me then come back his sent all over you. Your heartbeat rises when he texts you. Don't think I didn't see you smiling like and idiot at his message yesterday, so if you want my nephew then go be with him but I can't he around the girl I love while she smells of a different wolf it makes mine uncomfortable" he watches you after he finished his eyes wide at his revelation never planning on ever saying it aloud. You walked over to him, biting in the smile spreading across your lips. Peter stood his back to the wall unsure what you was doing or going to say. "you didn't let me finish" you smile at him. "I was going to say, I don't like Derek not like that anyway he's one of my best friends but he's not my type, besides I can't have feeling for him when I have spent the past few weeks falling for a different wolf" you said.
Peter was now smirking hearing the words Derek's not your type, and falling for another wolf. Something told him it's now or never grabbed your hips pulling you against him, his lips crashing onto yours. Your arms wrapped round his neck as you kissed him back. It was fast, hard, rough and long over due in both your eyes. When you stopped you felt almost breathless and stunned "Am I the Wolf your falling in love with?" Peter asked looking into your eyes. You nodded back yes "did you mean it when you said the girl you loved" you asked. Peter closed the gap between you kissing your neck. "you have no idea how long I've loved and wanted you for y/n" his words mumbled between kisses along your neck. Your phone rang Peter stopped "not getting that" he asked smirking "it will be Derek" you giggled not moving from where you stood. Peter smirked looking at the bite mark he'd left on your neck. "I think we should go see what he wants, we can show him your newest mark" he said proudly. You looked at him rising your eyebrow. "I want him and the rest to know your taken and your my girl" he said like he was answering an un-asked question. "so are you going to stop being jealous of Derek now?" you asked Peter kissed you "never but I'll try oh and by the way your kick was good but you needed work on the rest" he laughed changing the subject as you both packed up leaving the warehouse happy, thinking jealously finally brought you together.

We don’t believe what’s on TV - Chapter 26
<<Chapter 19 / Chapter 20 / Chapter 21 / Chapter 22 / Chapter 23 / Chapter 24 / Chapter 25 / Chapter 27 / Chapter 28 / Chapter 29
Resume: I had an ordinary life, or that’s what I wanted to believe. I lost myself in the TV series that I listened to forget the normal boring life. What I didn’t know, however, was that my life would change completely overnight.
Finding myself in 2013 at Beacon Hills County.
This will be a Stiles x Reader but only further in the story (soon soon!)
In this chapter: Training, lying, helping, loving and failing.
Word count: 5169
A/N: I’M NOT LATE THIS WEEK!! Be proud of me please this is so rare omg. Thanks again to @maddie110201 who proofreaded it and keeps giving me motivation. I love you. I hope y’all love this chapter also longer than the usual 3K words! (Ps: if you’re on the tag list or if you really enjoy this series it would be super kind to leave a feedback! It makes the author wanna continue! And especially with this story, it takes a lot of time for me to write it but only a couple of seconds are needed for a feedback!) (I don’t own the gifs nor the pictures! Credit to owners)
"Fists higher, Y / N. "
" I’m trying!” I gasped while wiping my forehead before receiving another kick at the waist. It made me growl as I hopped up to place myself back, my face clenched with pain as the blow was hard and painful. My whole body was hurting.
"Always watch your defense," my sensei, as I liked to call Allison, reminded me by continuing to turn around me on the small blue carpet thick enough to cushion the shock but not to prevent the bruises from appearing on my body the next day.
"Yes ..." I mumbled, jaw and teeth clenched before taking another hit, this time behind the knee. I lost balance and fall on the mattress on my knees. By reflex, I placed my hands in front of me to cushion my weight.
It was only the second day. The second training session since the hypnosis. Allison had kept her word, she was going to teach me everything she knew. And it was with a destructive smile that she told me that at the end, if I survived her teaching, I would know how to fight. Know how to use a bow or crossbow. I would be strong and finally useful.
So, during the two days after school, we met in the basement of the building where Allison lived, which was actually a weapon warehouse for the Argents. Even if Allison didn’t really have the permission to take me to that place or even go there herself, we went.
A lot of things happened in two days. I finally got home, finally, at the McCall's where Scott had greeted me by taking me in his arms to squeeze me gently and tenderly. Before I left, I had made Allison promise something else.
"I’ll say that I don’t remember what happened. I don’t want to talk about it or make things worse than it is, so ... "
And she had promised to tell no one about it either.
I took the next day off, Scott had insisted. I had innocently asked him questions about the hypnosis but his answers had remained vague, obviously he wasn’t going to tell me I was possessed by something dark and very strong that had managed to hurt him and Isaac, two werewolfs, enough to make them unconscious. And probably at this very moment, Deaton was doing some research to try to understand what was happening to me. Scott had remained simple; I was somnambulist and they had to look for me in the forest. It was the official lie.
And that day was the first without nightmares. Without waking up abruptly screaming. I even had totally normal dreams, as if the thing in my head that possessed me when my guard was down was no longer there. My theory was that, by saying such an important event that was going to happen, the pain had been such it had weakened it. Like taking control of my body already demanded a lot of power and now it had none left.
I took advantage of it to sleep all day, not suspecting the number of times Stiles came visit me to hit a closed door or Scott telling him I was sleeping and that I shouldn’t be disturbed.
That same evening, I finally managed to convince Scott to go get a tattoo with Stiles. The absent tattoo remained an important missing element and especially very stressful. It was something I had to fix quickly before the impacts were disastrous. Later he told me his tattoo hadn’t stayed, that he had recovered like his body thought it was a scar needed to heal. I had then sent him on a track mentioning that Derek had a tattoo and he surely had to know how to do it. And indeed, he knew it.
Stiles had to come pick me up for Scott, but I wanted to avoid him as much as possible. If the monster in my head took him for a threat, he was in danger with me. Everyone was. But Stiles even more. So before he came, I pushed myself out of the house and mentioned I had to go to the police station to give my statement of the week on the progress of my memory loss. Allison came to take me and we went, then she explained to me she had found a place for training and that we would go there to get started. She had fortunately not asked why I had to go to the station and I mentally thanked her for it. If she knew the reason, she would understand I wasn’t Scott's real sister and all the lies would shatter, including the trust that was based on it.
So it had been two days while during the evening Allison taught me the basis of defense. How to stand, posture, balance, have eyes all around the head and most importantly, never leave the opponent's eyes. The training had begun with jogging and ended with me, out of breath, bruises all over the body. The next day I managed to avoid Stiles as much as possible, even though I knew that he was worried about me. I was dying to see him, talk to him, but every time I saw the scar on his forehead, wound caused by me, I couldn’t. And I changed corridors every time.
After school I went back to the basement. And we were still training.
"Concentration, Y / N. Don’t forget. Concentration, coordination ...”
"Balance and attention, I know ..." I whispered breathlessly. It wasn’t easy, I knew, she knew. Having no basis in self-defence, her teaching was going to be only more difficult. "When will I learn to fight back? "
"When you'll be able to defend yourself," Allison finished by giving me a last shot in the back and when I fell, I didn’t get up. Exhausted, I remained on the floor.
"Sometimes I wonder if you're human," I grumbled as I tried to get up but decided to stay comfortably on the ground instead. Allison was about to reply when my phone rang in my bag, giving me the energy to get up and go to answer. But my hand froze when I recognized the name displayed. Stiles.
" Who is it?” Allison asked, placing a hand gently between my shoulder blades to warn me of her presence while my phone continued to ring. She looked over my shoulder and understood. "You should answer."
I sighed. I couldn’t always avoid him. Especially since I didn’t want to. So my finger slid on the green phone icon to answer. After I scraped my throat, I put the handset on my ear and muttered a little hello.
"Y / N," Stiles’ voice uttered in my ear and my heart accelerated. I had missed his voice so much. My hand held my cell phone tighter and I swallowed, waiting for the rest. A little silence became bigger when no one dared speak, listening only to the breathing of the other. "You have to come to the hospital. "
My breathing stuck in my throat as my head turned to Allison, eyes wide open. Her eyes became worried as she realized something was wrong.
"I'm coming," I answered, hanging up. Then, without looking away from Allison, I nodded toward the exit. We didn’t take the time to change and left the basement with our sweaty clothes.
When I got to the hospital, it didn’t take me much time to figure out what had happened and I wanted to hit my head against the window. My mission. The darach had again made a victim, a healer. I had to put my ideas in order, to remind myself who was going to be next. Perhaps that was why Stiles had called me? To ask me who was next?
Nervousness gained on me more as the car got closer. Allison parked the car a little away but as close as possible to the hospital. We then got out of the car, looking for Scott and Stiles even though I knew where they were. I pointed to them as I walked, my heart beating only louder. Ever since I had heard Stiles' voice, I only wanted to hear it again.
"Allison?" Scott asked, probably not understanding what I was doing with her. After explaining to him that I somehow needed a chauffeur and that she was nearby, the situation was cleared up.
"These are definitely sacrifices, right?" Allison asked, slowly understanding what was going on, the murders in groups of three. However, a healer was missing to meet the criteria.
"Yeah, this one is healers. Deaton talked about it ..." Stiles began. I could feel his look on me never leave me. I cleared my throat, swinging from one foot to the other, nervous and embarrassed.
"What about Danny? He threw up mistletoe. That's not a coincidence, and if he hadn’t been with Ethan, he would probably have died. Danny's not a healer." Scott remarked. Indeed, Danny wasn’t a healer and wasn’t on the list of people the darach wanted to kill. Because he knew too much, it had put him in danger. And even if it made me angry to admit it, Scott was right. Ethan had saved Danny, sort of.
"Why did you call me?" I asked in a small voice, which attracted everyone's attention to me.
"Stiles wanted to see you," Scott said aloud, a huge smile in his face as Stiles sent him his most murderous look. "To ... know if you know by any chance who could be next. "
Stiles didn’t add anything and rested his honey brown eyes on me, staring into my eyes patiently waiting for an answer.
"Why should I know?" I answered, my heart beating only faster.
"Just taking a chance ..." Stiles mumbled as he quickly pulled out his tongue to lick his dry lips.
After hearing with his supernatural abilities that the police had found a body, Scott insisted on taking me home. Stiles also offered a ride, but I agreed to travel with Scott and his mother while avoiding his gaze. After saying goodbye to Allison and smiling shyly at Stiles, I went up with the McCalls and went home. A good shower, then bed; actually, the pile of blankets covering the floor that served me as a bed in Scott’s room.
I waited for Scott to come to sleep for several minutes, fighting the sleep as best I could. Seeing he didn’t come, I stood up, my muscles protesting under the effort to walk as silently as possible in the house, seeking him. Isaac wasn’t in his room either and I found them both in Melissa's room, sleeping in some impossible positions. They were watching over her. A tired smile stretched my lips as I took a seat near the door, clutching my head against the wall and then closed my eyes. I would to watch over Melissa all by myself.
"Really, boys? Boys!” Melissa's voice echoed abruptly in my skull and my eyes snapped open and my breath remained stuck in my lungs for a moment in the shock of the awakening. “What do you think you’re doing?”
"Uh, we were watching over you." Isaac said, being careful to stay polite.
"We wanted to make sure you were not the third sacrifice." Scott added.
"But both of you were asleep." Melissa continued, then step forward in her bed to have a better view in front of it where I was still sitting on the floor. I raised my hand to say hello while yawning.
"You were on watch last."
"What are you talking about? You were on watch last. "
"No, you were on watch last."
"I might've been on watch last." Isaac looked at Melissa in the eyes to say that sentence and finally Scott noticed my presence as well. He gave me the big eyes, meaning he wasn’t really agreeing with my presence. I put myself on my feet while yawning again.
"My heroes." Mrs. McCall mumbled sarcastically.
"I watched over you," I mumbled, eyes half open while sketching the gesture of a thumbs up in the air. I looked to my right to see Scott and Isaac stare at me, stunned that I managed to hold all night. Or almost all night. Well they didn’t need to know the truth
"The only hero here is the human. Ironic," she continued, then stopped when she understood something. "Wait, didn’t you say that they were all doctors? I mean, I have not had an M.D. recently attached to the end of my name, so I think I'm in the clear. "
"Yeah, but it could just come under any kind of healer, mom, and you were definitely a healer last night."
"Anything is possible," I added. Indeed, if Danny had been attacked and if unfortunately one of my actions had changed the darach's plans, anyone could be next on her list.
"Yeah, well, I'm not gonna be anyone's human sacrifice today, so all of you get your butts to school. Now. And Y / N, take a coffee. Trust me, you'll need it. "
"Okay," I mumbled as I turned around to leave her room and go to Scott's to prepare. A night without any sleep wouldn’t disrupt my day. I was used to it. And only to see the scene of Isaac and Scott fighting to know who was on watch last in real life was really worth it.
What was less worth it, however, was the gaze Isaac continually gave me. Suspicious, his blue eyes wouldn’t leave me. He watched each of my movements, stayed with Scott when he was with me, as if I was going to attack him suddenly. Isaac's growing loyalty to Scott, the future true alpha, was on the one hand very beautiful but on the other dangerous. If Stiles had taken a long time to trust me, it would be far more complicated with Isaac.
Especially with what had happened during the hypnosis, when I had attacked him. Scott had surely asked him not to say or do anything, that he would find a solution. But obviously the beta still wanted to watch me. I sighed as I sat down in chemistry class and surprisingly, Isaac didn’t follow me. And I was even more surprised to see Stiles rushing to the chair next to me as if someone was about to steal it and go away with the piece of furniture. Again, the sight of the scar on his forehead, cause of his contusion, hurt me. I had to lower my eyes and looked nervously at my hands as we heard Scott pulled a chair in front of us at the table.
The silence became more and more uncomfortable. I had only one desire that the day would end so I could join Allison in the basement to continue the training. Even if I would have to find a new excuse to give Scott to explain my absence every night. As Stiles opened his mouth to speak, someone I really didn’t want to see today went into the classroom and put a book on the teacher's desk. I groaned as I ran a hand through my hair, feeling my sleepless nights start to take effect.
“Good morning. As you all know, Mr. Harris is still missing I mean, sick. Anyway, I'm filling in while we all hope and pray for a more qualified substitute to take my place. Okay, so let's get started, shall we?”
My head went to meet the desk loudly as Stiles whispered something to Scott in the front.
“Hey, my dad said that the E.R. attending wasn't strangled but did die from asphyxiation. They just don't know how.”
“Do you think the on-call doctor could still be alive?” Scott answered, turning slightly towards his friend.
“I don't know But, Scott, there's got to be at least 20 other doctors in that hospital at least, you know? Any one of them could be next.”
I raised my head, wide-eyed, and at the same time Scott's phone vibrated in his pocket, and he hastened to answer, leaning against the table in order to be as discreet as possible. For his part, Stiles had turned towards me, worried. He asked me what was wrong and commented I had the face of someone who knew something but I couldn’t answer. I couldn’t tell him it was Deaton calling to say he was about to be taken. If something changed, there were risks he would never be found. And that he would indeed be the last sacrifice. That Scott wouldn’t try to save him and wouldn’t start to become a true alpha.
“Hey, doc. Sorry, I'm in class right now. Can I call you back later?” A pause, a silence in which I could see Scott listen. “Doc, doc, doc, doc? What's happening?”
His voice, urgent, restless and powerless, sounded a little too loudly in the class, attracting Jennifer's attention.
"Scott, please, class is started, put away your phone."
My fist only closed even more, the rage of seeing her healthy and safe with her angelic face that no one suspected made me sick. If my eyes could, they would have killed her with a glance.
After the long chemistry class, which was mostly me trying to avoid contact with Stiles (in order to protect him, I kept repeating myself), all three of us went to the clinic.
In fact, it can be summed up in Scott, running wildly at supernatural speed, leaving me alone with Stiles with a growing feeling of nervousness as we climbed into his jeep to head in a human way to the same place as the worried werewolf. Stiles quickly called his father to explain the situation and the disappearance of the veterinarian.
Then it was total silence. And it was only more embarrassing to hear this silence float in the air around us when obviously Stiles was trying to find something to say while I cursed myself for never being able to predict this kind of event. But of course, I had to come with them to the clinic. Why? Scott didn’t want to leave me alone? Certainly. But he really had to trust me to leave me alone with Stiles knowing very well the monster in my head was very keen to kill him. Or he was too preoccupied by Deaton's call.
Or he knew. He knew that between hurt him or suffer, to the point of dying, I would always choose the second option.
Finally no one broke the silence which, this time was uncomfortable. The palpable tension was broken when I finally got out of the jeep, closing the door behind me to walk side by side with Stiles. We went to the clinic and then I froze.
A feeling of déjà vu made me shudder from head to foot, unfortunately remembering too well all the memories related to the hypnosis three days ago. Everything was still too fresh in my memory and I had to take a moment to recover from my emotions, only to see Stiles who had a hand extended to me, waiting for me to take it. I looked up at him and thanked him with a quick whim before taking his hand that was warm in mine. Immediately the appeasement replaced the discomfort and we were able to get where Scott was waiting for us, stunned. Words were not necessary to understand what was going on. Even without knowing the future, it would have been obvious. Especially since Stiles' father was present with some other deputies in the clinic.
Scott looked up at us and immediately lowered his eyes to our hands, which were still in each other. Uncomfortable, I withdrew my hand immediately to regret it; the heat which left me was replaced by fear and anxiety. And above all, remorse at the thought of having wounded Stiles by thus withdrawing my hand.

"All right, we're gonna do everything we can. Right now, the best thing you can do is go back to school." The Sheriff tapped Scott's shoulder before he left. The latter nodded at the spot where the animal cages were so we could talk more discreetly. I nodded knowing what was about to happen all too well. Scott was going to ask Stiles to tell his father everything and then would follow a mini-argument. I shouldn’t have been present in this scene like any other scenes and I felt only more out of my place. I didn’t want to get involved in this discussion and I didn’t want to be asked questions I would have to either lie or avoid. And the more I lied, the more I risked mixing them and get discovered. Which would end up losing the confidence of the few people I had managed to have.
“We have to tell him.” Scott began and I backed back a little against the wall behind Stiles, my head bent, listening quietly to their conversation.
“You mean, like, tell him, tell him, or tell him something else that isn't telling him what I think you want to tell him?” Stiles stammered, his hands trembling. In the scene, we couldn’t see this detail because the camera only filmed their faces. A new twinge in my heart took hold of me and I sighed softly as I stepped closer.
"You know what I mean," Scott continued.
“You remember how your mom reacted? She didn't look you in the eye for, like, a week.”
“And she got over it, and it actually made us closer.” Scott added in a calm and gentle voice, trying to convince his friend without rushing.
"He's right ..." I whispered as I raised my head toward Stiles and his eyes, already full of water stared at me a moment. He sniffed as he passed a hand absent-mindedly on his nose, not responding directly to me.
“I don't know... I mean, look at him. Come on, he's completely overwhelmed as it is.”
All three turned to see Stiles’ dad pass his hands behind his head, not understanding what was going on, the events incomprehensible to him.
“He's overwhelmed because he has no clue what's happening. He's got people dying in his town, the town that he's supposed to protect, and it's not his fault that he doesn't know what's happening. He's gonna find out sooner or later.”
“He won’t be mad. He won’t stop talking to you, on the contrary,” I added, stretching my hand by automatism towards him to brush my fingers with his. I thought what I was saying. Even if the sheriff wouldn’t believe his son at first, he would eventually realize the truth. And putting him in the confidence would only be beneficial in the future. Stiles looked up at me again, taking my hand in his. It kept trembling and the warmth of his skin was no longer so comforting. He needed my comfort. I tightened his hand a little more to show him that I was there. That I understood. And even though I avoided him a lot these past days, I wasn’t going to leave him. His honey brown eyes filled with water again and he rested them on Scott to continue without ever pulling his hand away. He needed it, needed the touch. And even if I told myself the opposite, I needed it too.
“Yeah, but is now really the right time?” Stiles tried to avoid the question. Pushing aside the moment when he would have to confess to his father the unrealistic idea that Beacon Hills was prey to supernatural creatures.
“What if not telling him now gets someone else killed?” Scott went on, thinking he was touching a chord. But it was the opposite because the pressure against my hand became stronger as a wave of emotions had to overwhelm him. And when he spoke again, I felt all the pain in his voice.
“What if telling him gets him killed, huh? I mean, okay, look, I get that Deaton's been like a father to you. I get that, okay? But this is my…” Stiles had to take a little break before continuing, emotions overflowing in him. “Scott, this is my actual father. I can't… I can't lose both of my parents, all right? Not both of them.”
His voice trembled, just like his hand. I understood, Stiles had lost his mother and I knew very well that if he lost his father too, he would lose himself in sorrow and pain.
"You're right." Scott admitted, nodding his head, probably feeling bad to have said that to his best friend.
"No, I'm not. I'm not right. I'll tell him." Stiles whispered in a low, hoarse voice, almost with difficulty. To admit it was obviously very hard for him and my heart pinched again. If only I could chase the pain off his heart and mind to put back the wonderful smile he used to have on his lips.
"I'll help you," Scott answered, a new hope appearing on his face as we all three turned toward the door to talk to the sheriff. And even before she appeared before us to prevent us from telling the truth to Stiles' father, I turned one last time towards him, our fingers still tangled.
"Don’t wait to tell him."
And it was right when the guidance counselor finished speaking to the sheriff that my hand left Stiles’ to go back to their place in the pockets of my jeans.
“Please, whatever you need if it can help find my brother.”
"Will you excuse us for a moment?" Noah mumbled at Deaton's sister and as soon as they were out of sight, she turned to us. For a brief moment, she seemed surprised to see me there. Again I was in a place where I shouldn’t have been.
“Okay, listen closely, all of you. No sheriff, deputy, or Detective is going to be able to find him.”
I really didn’t like her. Okay, the emissary had done nothing wrong, but her attitude irritated me very much.
“You don't have to ask us for help." Scott defended himself, feeling attacked. Obviously he wanted to save his boss.
“Actually, I'm trying to help you, because, if you're going to find my brother, then you need to use the one person who might actually have an ability to seek out the supernatural.”
Scott looked at Stiles, who said the name.
"Lydia. "
In order to find Lydia, it was decided to split up in order to cover more distance. However, I knew Scott didn’t want to leave me alone, so he offered to accompany me. Taking advantage of the opportunity to escape from Stiles even though I really didn’t want to, I accepted and followed him as soon as we got to school. I didn’t say goodbye to Stiles. I was so pissed at myself for that.
"Everything’s all right with Stiles?" Scott then asked me as we walked through the school corridors in search of Lydia, who, if I recall correctly, would be found by Stiles anyway. His question made me stop walking, my mouth open, caught.
"Great, well, normal, why?" I stammered as I caught up and he turned to me, raising an eyebrow, a little mockingly. He could hear my heart racing.
"Well," he began, before a shrill sound interrupted him; the fire alarm. However, it didn’t last long because as we began to head towards the exit, everything stopped. A few students whispered their displeasure while others, having to stay the rest of the day at school, grumbled insults.
Scott stopped suddenly and I nearly got into him so much I was surprised and so lost in my thoughts. I couldn’t quite remember what would happen after Stiles found Lydia, what was Scott doing at the same time?
"He found her," Scott told me by putting his cell phone back in his pocket and then started walking. But again he stopped and I really darted into him this time.
"Why do you stop?" I asked, rubbing my nose hurt by his muscular back.
"Shhh ..."
He stretched out his ears, all his concentration focused on the sounds he had to hear. His eyes stared at the void and nothing moved except the students around us. Scott beckoned me to stay where I was and moved forward following the source of the noise, but I didn’t listen and followed. Several times Scott turned towards me to show me his hand, sign he didn’t want me to follow him. And every time I made him big eyes and continued to walk behind him, refusing to be left behind. In the end he decided to abandon the idea of preventing me from following him because obviously he was far from succeeding. He opened a door the one of the music class and froze. This time I anticipated the blow and stopped just before I went in him again.
“Do you know what a metronome is, Scott? It's a tool to help you maintain a steady rhythm once you've set the tempo. Something tells me the tempo of your life has sped up considerably in the last few hours. If you'd like, I could help slow it down to a more manageable pace.”
I immediately recognized his voice and a shiver ran through my back. Deucalion. Scott walked into the classroom and tried to hide me behind so I had time to run away, but it was too late.
"Do not hide, Y / n. I also addressed you. "
Trapped, we both walked in the classroom. Seriously, what was the trip of adults always coming illegally to Beacon Hills High School? If the show wasn’t about supernatural creature it would be about pedos or what? I would have liked to joke and say something like that out loud, but nervousness and fear prevented me. Deucalion. Leader of the alpha pack. Even if he would end up repenting and helping Scott in Season 5, for now he was a heartless foe capable of killing just to prove he was the leader.
"How?" Scott tried to change the subject and put the conversation away from me. He was still keeping me behind him, his arms a little backward in a protective manner. I really shouldn’t have come. This scene, I had completely forgotten about it. And I still didn’t know how my presence would change it.
"By helping you find Deaton. Unless the person you hide behind you that you want so much to protect has already told you? "
The world seemed to collapse. My ears started to buzz and the sight became confused.
"Tell me, Y / N. You know the future, do you? "
He knew. Deucalion knew for me.
In the next chapter : This is it. My last chance to save him. Save Boyd.

This is the Cubs prospect to watch in camp
The countdown to pitchers and catchers reporting is down to single digits for all 30 MLB clubs, but as exciting as it is to see the return of Major League stars, it's also a time to dream about the next wave of baseball talent. With the help of MLB.com's beat writers, here's a prospect to keep an eye on for each and every team in 2019.
AMERICAN LEAGUE EAST
Blue Jays: Vladimir Guerrero Jr., 3B The Blue Jays might be in the process of rebuilding, but their upcoming Spring Training will be must-see TV because of one player. Guerrero, arguably one of the most hyped prospects in history, will report to big league camp for the first time in his career. Guerrero appeared in a handful of spring games for Toronto in 2018, but he's never been a full participant in camp and this will be the first time fans get to watch his progress from start to finish. Guerrero vs. Chris Sale, Blake Snell, Aroldis Chapman and Masahiro Tanaka: These matchups have never happened before, but they might this spring -- and if they do the entire baseball world will be watching. If Guerrero comes anywhere close to matching the hype, there are certain milestones of his career people will not want to miss, and his very first Major League Spring Training is one of them. Circle Feb. 23 on the calendar because that's when all of the fun could begin with an afternoon home game vs. the Tigers. -- Gregor Chisholm

Orioles: Yusniel Diaz, OF Orioles camp will be full of blue-chippers eager to show the new regime what they can do as the club heads into a season in which big league opportunities figure to be available in plenty. The crop includes fast-rising Ryan Mountcastle, rebound candidates Hunter Harvey and Austin Hays, and late bloomers Ryan McKenna and Dean Kremer. But the obvious choice here is Yusniel Diaz, the prize of the Manny Machado trade and the Orioles' No. 1 prospect per MLB Pipeline. The 22-year-old Cuban slumped at Double-A last summer, but has generally rose steadily since signing with the Dodgers in November 2015. He is considered a potential five-tool player with an advanced approach at the plate, an ability to play all three outfield positions and a shot at debuting in Baltimore as early as this summer. -- Joe Trezza
:: Spring Training coverage presented by Camping World ::
Rays: Nate Lowe, 1B Once the Rays decided to trade Jake Bauers to the Indians this offseason, it became clear that the organization believes Nate Lowe is the first baseman of the future. Lowe won the Rays' Minor League Player of the Year Award in 2018 after dominating three levels in the Minors. The Rays' No. 13 prospect according to MLB Pipeline finished with 27 homers in 2018, and scouts have little doubt that the power will translate to the Majors due to his 6-foot-4, 235-pound frame. Lowe is one of the 24 non-roster invitees at this year's Spring Training, and it will be interesting to see what Lowe can show in just over a month. There's a good chance we see Lowe at the big league level at some point in 2019, but the 23-year-old will look to display his power all throughout the spring. -- Juan Toribio
Red Sox: Bobby Dalbec, 3B The power-hitting third baseman will be in big league camp for the first time, and Red Sox fans look forward to watching him take aim at the replica Green Monster at JetBlue Park. Dalbec has the best raw power in Boston's farm system, and his batting practice sessions could be a must-see event for fans roaming the back fields. But Dalbec isn't just about offense; he was a much-improved defender at the hot corner last season, displaying a quick first step and a strong arm. Look for Dalbec to start 2019 at Double-A and likely finish it at Triple-A. A September callup isn't out of the question. -- Ian Browne
Yankees: Clint Frazier, OF Frazier's 2018 season was derailed in the Yankees' second exhibition game, when he sustained a concussion slamming into the left-field wall in Bradenton, Fla. Recurring symptoms dogged the promising outfielder throughout much of the campaign, but he recently received a clean bill of health and has eyes upon claiming the starting left-field job from Brett Gardner. Frazier was lauded for his "legendary" bat speed in 2016, when he served as the centerpiece in the Andrew Miller trade. -- Bryan Hoch
AMERICAN LEAGUE CENTRAL
Indians: Bobby Bradley, 1B For those who enjoy the long ball, Bradley will be one to keep an eye on during Spring Training. The 22-year-old first baseman has demonstrated plus power in every step of his Minor League career, launching at least 20 home runs over the last four years (27 in Class A Advanced Lake County in 2015, 29 for Class A Advanced Lynchburg in '16, 23 at Double-A Akron in '17 and 27 between Double- and Triple-A in '18). In '16, he also knocked in an impressive 102 runs in 131 contests. Bradley's powerful bat is definitely something the Indians could use in their lineup once he continues to improve his defense and trim his strikeout rate. But it may not be too much longer until he gets his chance to hit long balls and drive in runs for the big league club. Either way, look for his power to be on full display once the team arrives in Arizona. -- Mandy Bell
Royals: Richard Lovelady, LHP As we've mentioned numerous times on royals.com, Lovelady, 23, doesn't have to go on the 40-man roster until next fall. But Lovelady, who posted a 2.47 ERA last year at Triple-A Omaha with nine saves, may force the Royals' hand this spring. And there certainly are plenty of open spots in the bullpen for Lovelady to grab. A lot of eyes will be on Lovelady when camp opens. He has swing-and-miss stuff and a bulldog mentality, and general manager Dayton Moore brought his name up at the team's recent FanFest as one of those pitchers who could be the next Greg Holland, Kelvin Herrera or Wade Davis. Lovelady just needs an opportunity. -- Jeffrey Flanagan
Video: Callis on the potential of No. 17 prospect Casey Mize
Tigers: Casey Mize, RHP Mize won't be pushing for a roster spot after just 13 Minor League innings last summer. But what last year's top Draft pick shows in camp should play a big role in determining his eventual path to the big leagues.
"I'm not going to even touch the delivery," pitching coach Rick Anderson said of Mize a couple weeks ago at TigerFest. "You just let him get adapted to where he's at. I'm excited to see him, just as I was when [Beau] Burrows and [Matt] Manning came up. You get a chance to see these guys and then you sit down with [roving pitching instructor] A.J. Sager and the Minor League people and talk about where we're going with them and what their thoughts are. It's going to be fun to see him."
The Tigers' decision to invite Mize to Major League camp is similar to what Detroit did with fellow right-hander Alex Faedo, their previous year's top Draft pick. The Tigers rested Faedo for the summer of 2017 after taking him with their first pick, letting him rest his arm following extended work during the University of Florida's run to the College World Series. Before Faedo embarked on his first pro season, the Tigers gave him a glimpse of Major League pitchers and the routine they build to prepare for a season. He pitched in the Tigers' spring exhibition game against Florida Southern College before heading over to Minor League camp. Expect much of the same for Mize. -- Jason Beck
Twins: Alex Kirilloff, OF Kirilloff missed the entire 2017 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, and his only goal entering '18 was to play a full season of healthy baseball. The former first-round selection from the '16 MLB Draft not only stayed healthy, but also had one of the most productive seasons in the Minor Leagues, leading all full-season Minor League hitters in doubles (44) while hitting .348/.392/.578 with 20 homers and 101 RBIs across two levels. The 21-year-old was named the Twins' Minor League Player of the Year, shot up to No. 9 on MLB Pipeline's top 100 prospects list and earned an invite to big league camp this coming spring.
"I'd never had an injury like that, that caused me to miss that much time," Kirilloff said. "But once it got past that point and I accepted everything, I took it as a challenge and tried to make myself better from it." -- Do-Hyoung Park
White Sox: Eloy Jimenez, OF White Sox fans continue waiting on decisions from premium free agents Machado and Bryce Harper, but in the meantime, believe they have a star of their own in the making in Jimenez. Those same fans were disappointed to not have Jimenez come to the Majors at all in 2018, especially after getting a glimpse of his raw power during Spring Training and then watching Jimenez tear through the Minors offensively. The game's No. 3 prospect overall, per MLB Pipeline, has worked diligently on his conditioning in the offseason and seems primed for an impressive rookie campaign, which should begin sometime in mid-April. -- Scott Merkin
Video: All eyes on Jimenez at White Sox Spring Training
AMERICAN LEAGUE WEST
Angels: Jo Adell, OF Adell, ranked as the No. 14 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline, is a true five-tool center fielder who has continued to make impressive adjustments in the Minors. He's coming off a breakout year that saw him hit a combined .290/.355/.543 with 20 homers, 32 doubles and 15 stolen bases in 99 games across three levels, including his first stint at Double-A despite being only 19. He'll be in Major League camp for the first time this spring, but isn't likely to reach the Majors in 2020. He'll be in the upper levels of the Minors this season, however, and is the club's most exciting home-grown prospect since Mike Trout. -- Rhett Bollinger
Video: Callis on Forrest Whitley being top pitching prospect
Astros: Forrest Whitley, RHP Whitley, the seventh-ranked overall prospect by MLB Pipeline, is one of the Astros' most highly touted prospects in the last couple of years. Whitley, who dominated at the Arizona Fall League after being held to 26 1/3 innings at Double-A Corpus Christi last year following a 50-game suspension and a pair of injuries, will probably begin the season at Triple-A Round Rock and should make his way to Houston at some point in 2019. There's a reason the Astros came out publicly and said the 6-foot-7 Whitley isn't available in trades this offseason. -- Brian McTaggart
Athletics: Jesus Luzardo, LHP All eyes will be on Luzardo when camp opens next week. The A's top prospect, all of 21 years old, is the most intriguing Opening Day rotation candidate. The southpaw sensation -- who was recently anointed the game's top left-handed pitching prospect by MLB Pipeline -- climbed three levels in the Minors in 2018 and put together a 10-5 record and 2.88 ERA with 129 strikeouts in 109 1/3 innings. Despite having just four games under his belt at the Triple-A level, the A's won't hesitate to throw him in the big league rotation with a strong spring showing. Conversely, they don't want to rush him if they feel he's not ready, and wouldn't shy away from giving him more time at Triple-A. Either way, the hype is real. Luzardo is armed with a premium arsenal -- including a high-90s fastball that features a high spin rate and an elite changeup -- and the kind of pinpoint command that typically eludes young pitchers. -- Jane Lee
Mariners: Kyle Lewis, OF With all the offseason moves by Jerry Dipoto, the Mariners are suddenly loaded with interesting young prospects, including promising pitchers Justus Sheffield, Justin Dunn and Erik Swanson, who all could impact the rotation before long. Nine of the club's Top 30 prospects per MLB Pipeline were acquired this winter. But there's a returning prospect who might be even more intriguing to keep an eye on this spring, as Lewis -- the club's No. 1 Draft pick in 2016 -- should finally be at full strength in his return from knee surgery. Fans will finally get to see Lewis in action at his first Major League camp as the 23-year-old looks to re-establish himself as a key part of the franchise's future plans. -- Greg Johns
Rangers: Taylor Hearn, LHP Spring Training will give the Rangers a chance to take a good look at Hearn, 24, who was acquired from the Pirates in a trade for Keone Kela at the end of July. He is at the forefront of a group of Minor League starting pitchers who are expected to make an impact at the big league level in two to three years. Hearn, who is from nearby Royse City, has a fastball that hits 97-98 miles per hour but still has to refine his location. He has a good feel for a changeup, but is still working on his slider. He could end up with a future in the bullpen, but the Rangers will give him a chance to start and he could be fun to watch in Spring Training. -- T.R. Sullivan
NATIONAL LEAGUE EAST
Braves: Cristian Pache, OF Andruw Jones says Pache is already the best defensive outfielder within an organization that includes Ender Inciarte, who has won three straight Gold Glove Awards. Other evaluators have opined the 20-year-old prospect might be the game's best defensive outfield prospect. The young outfielder hit the first nine homers of his professional career last year and his power will likely increase as he continues to physically mature. Pache held his own while experiencing his first big league Spring Training last year. His presence during this year's camp should give Braves fans further reason to be excited about the possibility he might be roaming the outfield with Ronald Acuna Jr. at some point during the 2020 season. -- Mark Bowman
Marlins: Victor Victor Mesa, OF Mesa, Miami's No. 1 prospect and baseball's 99th overall per MLB Pipeline, enters Spring Training as a non-roster invitee and a bit of a mystery. The 22-year-old and his younger brother, Victor Mesa Jr., defected from Cuba last May and he has not seen any real game action since. He signed for $5.25 million (and his brother for $1 million) with the Marlins in October.
The fact that the elder Mesa hasn't played in games in about a year will create plenty of intrigue as to what he can do. A speedster with a cannon for an arm, Mesa draws praises from scouts for his defensive abilities. His approach at the plate is also solid, and the thought is that he will hit for average. But there are questions as to how much power he will provide. The Marlins will give Mesa every chance to showcase himself; along with game action, he is expected to be in the bullpen tracking pitches during pitcher warmups. Marlins fans are wondering when to expect him in the big leagues, but they will have to wait because he will likely start off at either Class A Advanced Jupiter or Double-A Jacksonville. -- Joe Frisaro
Video: WLD@USA: Alonso mashes a 2-run homer to left field
Mets: Peter Alonso, 1B A vocal segment of Mets fans wanted top-ranked prospect Peter Alonso in the Majors last season. They'll be back in full-throated support of Alonso this spring, when he attempts to make the Mets' Opening Day roster despite odds stacked against him. While Alonso has nothing left to prove offensively in the Minors, slugging 36 home runs over two levels last season, the Mets must keep him down until mid-April if they want to ensure an extra year of team control.
Regardless of that decision, Alonso promises to be under a microscope this spring, as the Mets try to figure out if he really is their first baseman of the future -- particularly on defense, where he has struggled since the Mets drafted him in the second round in 2016. If all goes well, Alonso has potential to develop into one of the best right-handed sluggers in baseball. -- Anthony DiComo
Nationals: Victor Robles, OF One of the biggest reasons the Nationals could potentially lose Harper and still be OK? Robles, the club's top prospect and MLB Pipeline's No. 4 overall prospect in baseball. Had he not hyperextended his left elbow on a diving catch last April, Robles would have received his chance in D.C. last season. Instead, his friend Juan Soto got the chance and he ran with the opportunity. This year will be Robles' turn.
Washington is going to hand Robles the job as the everyday center fielder because the team believes he is ready to show off all of his tools: The speed around the bases and in the outfield, the instincts and arm on defense and an approach at the plate that they do not believe will be overwhelmed by big league pitching -- along with enough power to make pitchers pay for mistakes. Robles is about to get his chance to prove himself this season, and the Nationals hope he will end up roaming the outfield at Nationals Park for years to come. -- Jamal Collier
Phillies: Adam Haseley, OF The Phillies selected Haseley with the eighth overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, and there is some thought that he could push for a job on the big league roster later this season, if he plays well and if there is a need. Haseley opened last season with Class A Clearwater before being promoted to Double-A Reading. He put up impressive numbers with Reading, batting .316 with six home runs, 17 RBIs and an .880 OPS in 159 plate appearances. If the Phillies sign Harper at some point this spring, it obviously hurts Haseley's chances to make a big league impact in 2019. But if Harper signs elsewhere, the Phillies could have a use for Haseley mid-summer, especially with outfielders like Odubel Herrera and Aaron Altherr trying to rebound from disappointing seasons, and Roman Quinn having an extensive injury history. -- Todd Zolecki
NATIONAL LEAGUE CENTRAL
Brewers: Keston Hiura, 2B In this case, the must-see prospect in camp might also be the one with the chance to make the biggest impact. Hiura impressed manager Craig Counsell and the Major League staff last year by batting .419 with a .986 OPS in 31 Cactus League at-bats before a solid season split between Class A Advanced Carolina and Double-A Biloxi -- as well as a strong showing in the Arizona Fall League, where he posted a .934 OPS. President of baseball operations David Stearns has already said Hiura will begin the season in the Minors, but with the big club poised to start a platoon of Cory Spangenberg and Hernan Perez or Tyler Saladino, Hiura could have callup potential once Super 2 territory is cleared. -- Adam McCalvy
Video: Mayo on Reyes being a prospect to keep an eye out for
Cardinals: Alex Reyes, RHP Reyes has been the Cardinals' top-ranked prospect for four straight seasons, but he's eager to graduate from that list this season. He missed 2017 while recovering from Tommy John surgery and made just one start (four innings) in 2018 before requiring surgery to repair a torn tendon in his lat muscle. His rehab schedule has him on track to be ready to pitch in Spring Training, and the Cards will use the next several weeks to assess his health and optimal fit for the season ahead. They remain open to using him as a starter or reliever, depending on need. -- Jenifer Langosch
Cubs: Nico Hoerner, SS Chicago built its core through position players at the top of the MLB Draft, and the club is hoping that Hoerner (taken 24th overall in the '18 Draft) will soon fit into that same category. The 21-year-old Stanford product has certainly turned heads since turning pro. A left elbow issue limited Hoerner to 14 games last season, but the shortstop posted a 1.021 OPS in 60 plate appearances. He then opened eyes with Mesa in the Arizona Fall League, hitting .337 with one homer, four doubles, four triples and an .867 OPS in 21 games. With his bat-to-ball ability and impressive exit velocities, Hoerner could develop fast and grow into more power. MLB Pipeline listed him in the final spot in the latest Top 100 rankings and projected that he could reach MLB by the 2020 season. If Hoerner gets some Cactus League action this spring, Cubs fans will want to pay attention. -- Jordan Bastian
Pirates: Mitch Keller, RHP Last year, Keller said it was "kind of a big deal" to pitch two innings in a mid-March Grapefruit League game. Pirates fans will get a much longer glimpse at the club's top prospect this spring. Keller, MLB Pipeline's No. 19 overall prospect, will be in big league camp from the start and may be preparing for his Major League debut at some point this summer. He has a plus fastball and curveball, and the Bucs have been stressing the importance of his changeup over the past few years. The 22-year-old right-hander is set to begin the season with Triple-A Indianapolis, where he initially struggled last season before finishing strong. Third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes, Pittsburgh's No. 2 prospect and a dynamic defender with an improving bat, will also be in big league camp for the first time this spring. -- Adam Berry
Reds: Nick Senzel, 3B/2B/OF Cincinnati's prospect to watch happens to also be the organization's No. 1 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, and MLB's No. 6 overall. Senzel is back for his second big league camp, but this one has much more at stake. The Reds have an opening in center field and Senzel -- a career infielder -- has spent most of his offseason learning the position to try to make the team. Senzel could also make the club in a super-utility type role where he plays regularly. If the 23-year-old hadn't had a bout of vertigo and a broken right finger last season, he likely would already be in the Major Leagues. Now he must show not only that he can stay healthy, but that he can also be a quick learner to take on a new position at the game's highest level. -- Mark Sheldon
NATIONAL LEAGUE WEST
D-backs: Jazz Chisholm, SS D-backs fans who got out to watch Arizona Fall League games last year got a sneak peek at Chisholm. Signed in the 2015 international class, Chisholm is an athletic shortstop that has moved up steadily through the system. While his ETA in the big leagues is probably not until 2020 and he could be one of the early cuts in camp, D-backs fans should take advantage of the opportunity this spring to get a glimpse of what the future looks like for the organization at shortstop. -- Steve Gilbert
Dodgers: Keibert Ruiz, C Assuming he isn't dealt in a trade for J.T. Realmuto or Corey Kluber, Ruiz will be the prospect that draws the most attention because he's younger than outfielder Alex Verdugo or fellow catcher Will Smith -- and might also have the highest ceiling. Ruiz spent all last year at Double-A and is only 20 years old now. With Austin Barnes, Russell Martin, Rocky Gale and Smith ahead of him on the depth chart, the big question is how much spring playing time Ruiz will get. -- Ken Gurnick
Giants: Joey Bart, C Bart, the Giants' top prospect, will headline the list of 18 non-roster invitees at big league camp this spring. The second overall pick out of Georgia Tech in last June's Draft, Bart quickly lived up to expectations after batting .298 with a .983 OPS and 13 home runs in 45 games with Class A Salem-Keizer in 2018. With Buster Posey on the mend from major hip surgery, the 22-year-old Bart could see a lot of action early in camp, giving the Giants plenty of opportunities to evaluate their promising young catcher. -- Maria Guardado
Video: MLB Network highlights No. 2 prospect Tatis' talents
Padres: Fernando Tatis Jr., SS Who else? Tatis is presumably the answer to the Padres' decade-long shortstop question, and there's a chance he answers it in a big way. MLB Pipeline rated him as the sport's No. 2 overall prospect, and he's the rare five-tool talent without a glaring flaw in his game. Tatis, who has only played a few months at Double-A, will have his work cut out for him to make the Opening Day roster. He's got service-time concerns working against him as well. But he's going to arrive in San Diego soon enough. And he'll bring plenty of swagger with him. -- AJ Cassavell
Rockies: Brendan Rodgers, INF Rodgers -- the No. 10 prospect in the Majors according to MLB Pipeline -- is in Major League camp for the second straight year, but this is his first shot at breaking with the big club as he competes for the starting second base job. Ryan McMahon, Garrett Hampson (the Rockies' No. 4 prospect) and Pat Valaika also are in the running for the job. Realistically, for Rodgers to not start the season at Triple-A Albuquerque, he'll have to win the job with a breakthrough spring -- like the one shortstop Trevor Story accomplished in 2016. -- Thomas Harding

Big Little Lies, which ended last night, was set among the sort of people who have swimming pools built on the edges of cliffs. But the longer the drama went on, the more incidental the lush trappings seemed. By the finale, the stakes were as simple as could be: The show’s leading women — Laura Dern’s Renata, Reese Witherspoon’s Madeline, Nicole Kidman’s Celeste, and Shailene Woodley’s Jane — surrounded a raging abuser (Alexander Skarsgård’s Perry), engaged him in primordial combat, and took him down with a last-minute assist from Zoë Kravitz’s Bonnie, who sized up the threat by watching Celeste and Perry’s body language during Trivia Night (quite a name for a momentous evening).
This was the grand climax the show had been building toward. It resonated so deeply that it rendered moot any complaints I might have had about the execution of certain scenes or subplots here or in the rest of the season. As written by series creator David E. Kelley and directed by Jean-Marc Vallée (who helmed the whole season, as is increasingly the fashion), it was such a heartfelt, confident capper that I’ve now watched it twice: the first time to finish out the story, the second to appreciate its design. Every moment and fleeting detail — even the seemingly out-of-nowhere ones — were carefully prepared for in earlier episodes, down to the black-leather ensemble that we first glimpsed Perry wearing during flashbacks in the pilot: a variation on the outfit Elvis Presley wore during his 1968 “comeback” special, which showed people who’d written him off that he was still the King. (Perry wanted to be Elvis ’68, but learned too late that he was really Elvis ’77.)
The Trivia Night sequence captured the feeling of being at an outwardly cheesy but enjoyable party that’s complicated by public eruptions of private psychodrama (such as Adam Scott’s Ed singing “The Wonder of You,” in a circa-1996, alternative-rock voice, to express his love for Madeline). In its geographical and logistical precision, the sequence was as impressive as one of those grand set pieces on Deadwood that turned the town into an amphitheater. It was darkly funny, cathartic, and unexpectedly hopeful, like Big Little Lies itself.
The show started out by threatening to become a glossier, more art-house-pretentious answer to ABC’s Desperate Housewives, with a scrambled-up structure that sometimes interfered with the momentum of otherwise nicely shaped story lines. The regular cutaways to the police interviews grew tiresome, and even in the second half, which was stronger than the first, there were obnoxious moments when the series would cut to different subplots, rather than letting a strong scene build and crest. At the same time, though, there was real beauty in its cutaways to rolling, crashing waves, which complemented the loose, handheld camerawork, the silent-with-music montages, and the many unnerving moments when the dialogue dropped out.
The boldest thing about Big Little Lies, though, is the way it centers on women’s experiences as wives and mothers and depicts their internecine fights with each other as a distraction from a larger, ongoing conflict with men — some of whom truly love them. A show populated by one-percenters who live in mansions by the sea would seem an unlikely venue for a smash-the-patriarchy narrative, but damned if Big Little Lies didn’t deliver one.
In the spirit of the show, let’s start at the end and work back. The scene on the terrace was a swing-for-the-fences set piece, gathering all of Big Little Lies’ ambitions and affectations into a few intense minutes. The lines of allegiance were drawn by gender; this violent, controlling, self-flattering man was a threat of a kind the women knew and recognized. In a last-minute reveal — contrived, but successfully sold through the actresses’ silent reactions — we learned that Perry was Jane’s rapist as well.
Then came Perry’s lunge, then a cutaway to a montage envisioning bits of the legal aftermath, then a return to the battle royale, which ended with Bonnie charging into the fray and shoving Perry down a flight of stairs. In an interview with Vulture, Skarsgård compared the scene to nature-documentary footage of wolves going after a bear, and the tight, almost abstracted camerawork, intercut with shots of waves dashing themselves against rocks, confirmed that we were witnessing a primordial event. (Like much of the series, the editing here was 1960s-European-art-house to a fault; TV editing traffics in metaphor so rarely that I found this elating.)
Big Little Lies didn’t go into much detail about what, exactly, followed the killing, but the implication seems to be that the women all got their stories straight, stonewalled the police, and sold Perry’s death as a ghastly accident. The series concluded with images of women and their children enjoying a day at the beach, scored to Ituana’s cover of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” — a disappointingly on-the-nose choice for a show with an otherwise terrific soundtrack, though the sound of a woman singing lyrics associated with one of rock’s most macho bands dovetailed nicely with the finale’s images of resistance and empowerment.
I haven’t read Liane Moriarty’s source novel, but I’m told it explains that Bonnie had an instant protective reaction to seeing Perry manhandle Celeste on Trivia Night because she was the child of a domestic abuser. Deleting that information unfortunately reduced the complexity of one of the only major characters played by an actress of color. (Merrin Dungey’s detective didn’t have much to do, either; she was defined mainly by her thousand-yard stare and clinking Zippo lighter.) I can see how this might have been a Sophie’s Choice situation for David Kelley: Filling in Bonnie’s backstory would have made it easy to predict who would die at the end of the series (and who would kill them), and that would have been debilitating for a show that tells its tale in a kaleidoscopic, not-always-linear way, teasing out the whodunit aspects as a pretext to root around in more mundane but rewarding areas of life experience. At the same time, this decision also had a secondary effect that elevated the series: It cemented the notion that — underneath the scandals, gossip, dark secrets, and affairs — Big Little Lies is about the mechanics of tribal loyalty, specifically loyalty that breaks along the line of gender identity.
Like everyone reading this, each character on the show inhabits multiple tribes, with identities and purposes that overlap and sometimes conflict: There’s a tribe of parents whose children are enrolled at the same school; there’s a more compact (in Jane’s case, two-person) tribe called the family. We also get glimpses of starter tribes on elementary-school playgrounds, and of a tribe of school administrators (seen mainly in after-the-fact police interrogations). Then there are class-based tribes: the rich, represented by most of the characters; the middle class, represented by the police and the school’s staff, and the lower middle class, represented by Jane and Tom. But the two most important tribes on the series are men and women. This is the one that proved most important in the finale, which saw a group of women with different backgrounds and varying levels of civility toward each other put aside their differences to kill a man who had raped one of their group and was abusing another.
Some worried that the show would make a spectacle out of women being petty to each other: series creator Kelley, the mind behind Ally McBeal and The Practice, is a notorious fan of catfights. But while Big Little Lies derived a lot of comic mileage from Madeline and Jane’s feud with Renata — as well as from Madeline and Renata’s control-freak behavior with their spouses, kids, and colleagues — the show grew more insistently feminist as it went on, mainly because of the way Celeste’s story took center stage. This subplot was rich enough to merit a show of its own. The interplay between Celeste and the couples therapist Dr. Reisman (Robin Weigert) was the most harrowing depiction of the psychological impact of domestic violence seen on American TV since 1985’s The Burning Bed.
Therapists will appreciate the doctor’s unpeeling of Celeste’s layers of self-delusion. She keeps insisting that she and Perry are both violent, that their brutal sex expresses a volcanic attraction that can’t be contained in a “normal” partnership. In reality, Celeste’s violence is a defensive, adaptive reaction to the Stockholm syndrome she experiences as the wife of a man who treats her as a trophy, a breeder, and a salve for his insecurity, and who hears the word “no” as a challenge. Some may blanch at the way Dr. Reisman violates the therapist’s doctrine of nonintervention by flat-out telling Celeste that she and her kids are in danger and she needs to plot her escape. Celeste isn’t wrong when she tells Dr. Reisman it’s unethical to push major decisions on one half of a couple when the other half isn’t there. But this type of situation is a gray area for the profession: The need to keep things confidential and encourage patients to arrive at their own epiphanies, at their own pace, is important in a typical session, but not when a patient seems likely to commit or endure violence.
Kelley and Kidman prevent this subplot from turning into “Heroic Therapist to the Rescue” by giving us understated milestone moments which imply that Celeste is figuring out what Reisman already knows. Celeste’s decision to attend therapy when Perry is out of town is a red flag that would tell any therapist that “this relationship has reached a crisis point,” but it’s worth pointing out that Reisman didn’t encourage Celeste to come alone; she made that decision herself. Reisman starts acting in a more interventionist manner during this session because Celeste’s presence seems to invite it. The coiled directness of Weigert’s performance in the final two therapy scenes made me wonder if Dr. Reisman had been here before, either as a therapist or as victim; maybe things ended badly last time, and that’s why she’s moving decisively with Celeste. But I also love that this is just a possibility, and I might be reading too much into the performance; a lesser show would have had Dr. Reisman explain herself.
The blocking of all the therapy scenes is superb, the last two especially. Notice the wide shot of Celeste sitting in her usual spot on a suddenly spacious couch, which signals that she’s finally gotten a chance to make a breakthrough because Perry’s not there to distort her thoughts. Notice, too, that the next time Celeste shows up without Perry, she sits in Perry’s spot. This tells the audience that Celeste is in charge of the household now. Perhaps that’s the unconscious reason Celeste sat in Perry’s spot in the first place — as a means of asserting herself — but here, too, the show declines to spell that out. Big Little Lies can be ham-fisted when it’s having the characters (particularly the Greek chorus of school employees) frame a moment with a smart-ass one-liner. But when it decides to do the same thing visually, it’s so subtle that you may not see a frame at all.
I’ve said elsewhere that if you strung all of the show’s therapy scenes together and released them as a feature film, they might win Kidman another Oscar (and perhaps snag a supporting nomination for Weigert) — but I hope the awards talk these performances are sure to generate won’t diminish the sincerity and craft that radiates from all of the therapy scenes. Cable drama is forever straining after importance, but once in a while you encounter a subplot that truly is important, and this is one of them. Any woman who has been in a situation like this, any therapist who has treated a patient in Celeste’s predicament, and any child who has witnessed domestic violence up close will recognize themselves in the story, regardless of their cultural background or social class, and will appreciate the intelligence and care with which Kelley, Vallée, and the actors have charted Celeste’s path from victimization to empowerment.
Celeste’s story is so substantial, in fact, that sometimes its weight made the other stories seem comparatively weightless (except for Jane’s PTSD, which was equally grave, though presented in a more puzzle-box way). But the battle on the terrace equalized all the women’s subplots, making Celeste’s journey seem of a piece with a larger narrative about women navigating a treacherous world designed and controlled by men. The threat of male aggression kept bubbling up out of the series’ whirlpool of moments: not just Perry’s fits of rage and Waspy entitlement (Perry might as well be the Silicon Valley representative for Mr. Robot’s EvilCorp), but also in sinister revelations (such as Celeste’s discovery that her son was abusing Renata’s daughter, triggering her decision to leave Perry). There was even a sense of menace in throwaway gestures. Think of Renata’s husband Gordon (Jeffrey Nordling) casually pulling up a chair before confronting Jane and Madeline in the restaurant, something a middle-aged executive wouldn’t do when confronting two men. Or the moment at the Trivia Night party when Gordon dismisses Joseph Cross’s Tom, the waiter who threw him out: Gordon points his finger like a pistol and pretends to blow Tom away, a gesture of annihilation that mirrors his earlier threat to drive the restaurant out of existence.
The scene on the terrace depicts a group of women reacting against this sort of oppression, recognizing kinship based on gender and shared life experience, and rallying to eliminate a threat — to all of the women gathered there, to women generally, and to their children, who (like Celeste’s son) can absorb a toxic patriarch’s behavior through osmosis. (As Celeste tells Perry in the car, he doesn’t know for a fact that the boys never saw them fighting, and they’ve definitely heard them.) The story converges toward a point of affirmation, in which women side with other women; the killing of Perry is merely a spectacular by-product. It’s significant that the beat-down was preceded by Renata’s apology to Jane — it’s here that the hive-mind starts to form. “It takes a really big person to apologize like that,” Madeline tells Renata, her onetime enemy. “You’re a really big person.”
This is a really big show, despite its self-deprecating title. I like it so much that I don’t care what’s wrong with it, although my asides here might indicate otherwise. Even though the story is obsessively plot-driven, at times oppressively so, the direction, editing, camerawork, music, and performances bring it closer to being an example of what I call a “vibe” show: a visceral experience that you enjoy mainly because of how it makes you feel. It’s at its best in scenes where the dialogue drops out, the soundtrack fills up with ambient noise or music, and you have to grasp the meaning of a moment by watching the characters exist. This seven-episode run feels so complete that I hope HBO will resist the temptation to capitalize on its success and order a second season. That said, I wouldn’t mind a spinoff about Celeste and her kids starting over, or a new season of In Treatment starring Robin Weigert.
