Welcome to Bondshipping🪢
a very kinky and sweet ship set in a High School AU
The story of Yugi and Saya happens in a Domino City where Duel Monsters is just another card game without weird Ancient Egyptian shenanigans happening. The story focuses on the main cast assisting school as students, including Atem who is Yugi's best friend and live together.
Yugi is a 17 years old shy guy that loves games over everything else, he's not great at studying, he loves his friends dearly and constantly wants them to have the recognition they deserve even if that means having to low himself for them. Saya on the other side is a great student who's also a member of the student council, despite being the vice president apparently nobody at school knows her, and sometimes gets ignored.
Saya has a few secrets, starting with her love for goth fashion that she needs to keep hidden at school, since she needs to keep an image as member of the student council; and the other secret is her love for Duel Monsters. She can't avoid to enjoy the game despite not having the time or anyone to play with. Always looking from afar at the few students who play Duel Monsters in the breaks, Saya gets lost in her thoughts until notices Yugi. There's something in him that distracts her, that shyness in him that she feels very familiar, and without noticing she becomes his secret admirer, looking at him from afar yearning for the day to join his duels, helping his friends to convince the president of the council to create the Duel Monsters Club (which is organized by Atem and Kaiba,) and sometimes showing to the club only to feel a little glimpse of being a member of his club.
One day Saya notices the black leather vest under Yugi's shirt. As if the idea possessed her, Saya is willing to do anything to know what is under his shirt, even capable of break her secret and challenge Yugi for a duel. And she does, showing up to Yugi, who to her surprise, knows her and accepts her challenge out of curiosity. The duel doesn't go well for her, despite cornering Yugi with her Despia/Branded Deck he manages to win. Despite losing Yugi accepts to show her the leather vest, he explains his liking in goth and punk fashion, especially the belts and leather wristbands. This revelation shocks Saya, knowing that someone like Yugi also likes the goth fashion. And that way both decide to keep the secret together.
To Saya's surprise Yugi has more secrets. One day after school she visits her usual clothes store when she sees a shop across the street that has the same leather vest that Yugi wears, guided by curiosity she enters the shop without noticing it's a sex shop. Finding herself for the first time inside she can't hide the surprised look on her face when seeing the different toys and costumes. The store has a second floor which she enters to find a panicking Yugi who can't believe to find her there.
So Yugi has to do another confession: he is into BDSM, especially knowing how to use the different toys and playing the master role. Saya can't avoid feeling a rush of excitement when she sees the many ropes, leather harnesses, and collars; like discovering a lost treasure she keeps asking Yugi for more information, to what he shyly explains.
Saya looks captive by the new discovery and Yugi takes the courage to ask her if she wants to try it out; expecting a big "no" Yugi regrets asking, explains that he has never tried it with someone before. To his ultimate surprise Saya accepts.
And that's how this weird relationship starts, a relationship based on trust and honesty. Their sessions start softly and carefully, trying out small things as commands and collars, to move to what Yugi loves most: shibari.
I hope you liked them! I have a few more to share later~ I love this dynamic so much because it literally holds everything I love. I am a sub who practices shibari as well, and I'll do my ultimate best to express my experience and how I feel about this practice.

yugi moto
-> yugi would jump at the opportunity to teach you how to duel. at this point, it stands as one of his love languages, so expect him to be a bit giddy about it.
-> one day after classes he brings you to the game shop and his grandpa can immediately tell from the smile on his face that it's you that has him this happy. after introducing you to him, yugi asks if his grandpa has any starter decks you can use to learn with. as grandpa moto goes to search for one, yugi takes the opportunity to point out certain cards on display, telling you about their mechanics and histories as if he's an expert on them. you note how animated he gets about them and it's honestly so cute how passionate he is; it even gets you pumped up a little.
-> grandpa moto hands off the started deck and the two of you retreat to the upstairs unit and to his room. once settled, he starts laying down the ground rules, showing you the basics with his own deck before starting up a practice duel. At certain points he'll show you different ways you can play strategies to get the best outcome, coaching you until you get the hang of it. yugi let's you make mistakes on your own but points them out so that you don't end up doing them again.
-> he's the kind of teacher to walk you through things carefully - not necessarily hold your hand the entire way, but he knows it can be intimidating to be thrown in on the deep end with no support, so he takes his time. it takes a couple days of coming over to his place and practicing with the spare deck until most of the rules and basics stick to your brain, and pretty soon, you gain the confidence to duel him without his guidance, and even in school during lunch or down time in front of people (youd been previously embarrased to do so bc of your amateurity)
-> honestly, seeing you grow comfortable with dueling and loving the game just as much as him makes him admire like you ten times more. the disappointment he feels when you beat him is quickly replaced, if it wasn't feigned all along, with a sense of pride that this is the very unique and special connection he has with you, and he definitely cherishes it.
jaden yuki
-> so like.....if you want to learn *seriously* how to duel, don't go to this guy. jaden's whole shtick is having fun and feeling the adrenaline that comes with dueling, the high that he gets is unlike any other and unique to him in his eyes, and so mainly, he's gonna focus on the more fun side of dueling instead of the actual logistics of it.
-> it did come as the consequence of a dare, so you can't really blame him for not taking it seriously at first. It was either that, or sneak into the obelisk blue dorm and take a dip in the obnoxiously large pool they have - and jaden was already in the hot seat and couldn't risk any more shenanigans at the moment.
-> that is to say, he's not necessarily a *bad* teacher. he's just not the kind of guy to be all....teacher-y about it. He's gonna make it fun and engaging, but you're gonna have to be the one asking the questions and taking the lead on your duel monsters learning.
-> for jaden, he's gonna lean more into the 'dive head first' kind of strategy. he'll wanna start a duel up right away, and while you don't necessarily understand what's going on, you trust jaden enough to follow his lead on things, and gradually, you pick up on certain things based on his own dueling strategy. the easier parts, such as setting traps and spells and basic summoning techniques, gravitate to you quickly, and jaden gets more excited the faster you pick it up, since it means the duel itself can pick up speed.
-> jaden does give you feedback though, and this is obviously after he's went wild and had his fun. I think he'd make jokes about your mistakes so you won't feel bad about them and to alleviate any pressure you may be feeling. after all, dueling is suppose to be fun (such a shocker compared to the world they live in). but over all, jaden makes sure you experience the fun that comes with dueling while still showing you the basics so that they stick.
-> the first time you beat jaden, he's honestly kind of dumbfounded...and so are you. neither of you realize what's happened after a few minutes, but when you do, of course jaden's initial response is for a rematch. you think it's because he wants to see if you can do it again, and while that's partially true...he also just wants to one up you and get that adrenaline rush again. it turns into a long-winded back and forth thing throughout the duration of your time at duel academy - you beating him, he beating you - until your last duel ends in a draw and you ultimately call a truce.
-> jaden thinks youre the only one who can match his energy during a duel and thats what really spurs him on. it's only natural that since he's the one that taught you, you'd have a more spontaneous style to the game, and that's what jaden seeks out during duels - someone to keep up with him and to keep the energy alive. believe it or not jaden gets a teeny hit jealous when you show that kind of energy to someone else in a duel. you find him pouting like a puppy and when you ask what's wrong, he just says "nothin'" because even he doesn't know why he acts like that, until Cyrus starts teasing him about potentially liking you....and it starts becoming a serious accusation the more Jaden refuses to respond to them.
yusei fudo
-> now don't hate me ... and don't hate him, but yusei is the kind of teacher who makes you work for it. hes not gonna give you the answer ir explain things to you right away, because to him it takes away the the whole point of learning how to duel *your* way. there's never gonna always be someone in your corner giving you a play by play for each turn, so you have to be able think fast and critically on your own to survive in a real duel.
-> it comes about as a sort of 'service exchange' - he needs help with some diagnostic software runs on his duel runner, and in exchange, he teaches you the fundamentals of dueling, as you've never actually learned even though you've been running with his crew for some time. so he deems it about time you learned (y'know, now that there isnt an imminent threat of world destruction to stop you).
-> he'll either tell you constantly "youre not suppose to do that" over and over again, or when you make a suspicious or an off move, he'll ask "why'd you do that?" and it lowkey frustrates you, because you're not being told exactly what's wrong so you can fix it. he doesn't let you get frustrated to the point where you get pissed off and want to stop, though - he'll ask you different questions to gage your thinking before showing you how it's done on his end. that mostly means you losing the practice duels, though, but you don't mind, as with each match, you learn a little more, until you can finally take him in a hand-to-hand duel without any guidance.
-> turbo dueling is a completely different beast though - one that damn near gets you in the hospital. Granted, you've only ridden Yusei's bike a handful of times in situations that were also life or death, so you're not completely experienced with it. of course, he's smart, and has you ride it around a couple of times to get the feel of it before having the speed world spellcard engage. though both of you quickly learn that with the added pressure of maintaining speed as well as focusing on driving and playing the game was too much....so you both agree that maybe turbo dueling isn't for you just yet.
-> yusei always makes time to have a duel with you if you ask him. given the amount of times he's had to duel for the sake of the world, it's definitely a change of pace just having a tabletop duel for fun. he's also always on the lookout for cards that could be useful for whatever kind of deck you intend to build for yourself, and even asks the twins about any new releases in the city that you might be interested in. akin to his silent caring personality, he'll also gift you a duel disk of your own, fitted to your arm size and adjustable as well.
-> you better believe this guy gets extremely excited when you win a duel, whether it be against him or anyone else. he may be a bit of a hard teacher, but it's all so rewarding in the end when you can stand on your own against an opponent; especially with those endearing acts of praise like a nice pat on the head, shoulder, or back and even a tight bear hug. the guys may tease him a bit for always having a smile on his face whenever he's in the stands watching you duel, but it falls on deaf ears to yusei, who's always gonna sport a neverending smile of pride

Gx rewatch - Jaden vs Yugi’s deck
Episode 18
Yugi’s deck in tour!!
Syrus dueling to get Jaden a ticket is very sweet.
Syrus saying he won because he saw how Jaden beat Crowler.
He copied Kaiba and Zane’s deck? How aren’t their cards super rare? How’d he get 3 Blue Eyes if there are only 4 in the world? I guess it didn’t have to be the blue eyes deck
Jaden being so excited to see Yugi deck that he breaks in. Bastian doing the same
The deck is missing! Au Jaden is so mad. That’s his dad’s deck!! He’s going to find it!
Dimitri has Yugi’s deck and is copying his style. Bastian says it best to beat Dimitri you have to exploits the weakness of his copied deck, but Yugi’s aren’t well known
Except in this au Jaden grew up watching Yugi and Atem duel. Yes this is an older deck (the battle city/duelist kingdom deck) there is no one better to take him on.
But this is also super wired for Jaden. Because it’s the first time he’s seeing the spirits of Yugi/Atem’s deck. And the spirits are so mad about having their cards stolen. But also about being used against their prince.
And Jaden is also mad about this. The first time he dueled his dad/uncle while seeing their card spirits should have been a special bonding moment for them. But it’s been stolen by Dimitri.
And this guy is copying his Dad/Uncle’s way of speaking and Jaden is starting to get furious.
Bringing out the Dark Magician of Chaos!! (With Yugi’s music!) oh Yugi/Atem’s spirits are so upset about being used against Jaden like this. (Their upset about anyone but Yugi and Atem using them but they are double upset about attacking the prince of duels)
Episode 19
Jaden checking in with Winged Kuriboh is okay fighting against his old masters deck.
Having Dark Magician Girl and Dark Magician of Chaos is so cool but also Jaden is so upset.
If Dimitri keeps talking about the heart of the cards Jaden might go over there and punch him.
I love seeing the hype for black luster soldier.
Jaden starting to give up because that is his dad’s deck and how does he beat it?
I love Jaden realizing Dimitri can’t have the heart of the cards because it comes from believing in your own cards and those aren’t Dimitri’s cards. Jaden has the heart of the cards.
Beating Yugi’s deck has to be such a bitter sweet moment for au Jaden. He finally beat Yugi/Atem’s deck but it doesn’t feel right because they weren’t the ones playing it. And he’s kinda heart broken over this moment being stolen from him by Dimitri. But at least he got his dad’s deck back.
Zane and Alexis we also sneaking in to see the deck! Also does Zane have any friends besides his missing best friends little sister (who is a freshman) or does Alexis just go to Zane whenever she wants to do something and he tags a long for the shiggles?
The whole student body saw Jaden win! (Okay maybe this moment isn’t what he wanted but it’s still pretty cool to beat his dad/uncle Atem’s deck in front of a crowd)
Also Jaden telling Dimitri that “you didn’t lose the person you were pretending to be lost.” Dimitri “who Yugi?” Jaden blushing “no you can never beat Yugi.”
Jaden showing off his signed poster! In cannon is Dimitri’s signature but in the au it is real.
Jaden’s furry at Dimitri impersonating him. Not because he’s copying him, but because he’s doing it wrong! I love it

Solomon has conversations with the DM cast. Here’s his dialogue with Yami Yugi and Kaiba!
Yami Yugi: Grandpa! Solomon: Yugi!? Oh no! You found me! Yami Yugi: Wait! I want to talk to you! Solomon: ...I already know you’re going to try to convince me to go home. Yami Yugi: That is not my intention. Yugi: (It’s not!? This place is too dangerous for Grandpa to be wandering alone!) Yami Yugi: (Can you trust me, Yugi?) Yugi: (.......) Yami Yugi: I don’t want to force you to go home. Instead...I want to Duel you. Solomon: Oh? You want to Duel me? Yami Yugi: Yes. My Deck originally belonged to you. I want you to see how much I’ve evolved your Deck to make it my own! Solomon: Ho ho! That sounds fun! Yugi: (Why are you doing this?) Yami Yugi: (instead of letting him roam on his own, don’t you feel better if he’s with us?) Yugi: (Ah! You’re right. Thank you!) Solomon: It’s been quite some time since we’ve last Dueled, Yugi. But my skills are as sharp as ever!
Solomon: Hello, Kaiba! Kaiba: You... Solomon: I heard you built this world. it must be exciting that you’re thrilling so many - including myself! Kaiba, I want to ask you about this card. [shows Blue-Eyes White Dragon] Kaiba: .................... Solomon: You now made this card playable for everyone. There used to be only four copies of this card. I had one, and you had the other three. But what you did to the one I had... [manga flashback of Kaiba tearing the card into pieces] Solomon: But you’re now allowing the whole world - not just me - to use it. That’s very kind of you. Kaiba: Don’t get the wrong idea, old man! Anyone can play the card, but only I have mastered it! A pathetic Duelist can’t control Blue-Eyes the way I can! That’s why I recreated that card! To make every Duelist understand that they’re inferior to me! Solomon: I see...Even so, it doesn’t change the fact that you made it playable for everyone. Thank you, Kaiba. Kaiba: You may thank me now. But given time, that gratitude will transform into anger. Solomon: I don’t agree, but I can be upset about one thing. I haven't gotten my revenge for you stealing my card! I want a rematch! Kaiba: Heh...Big mistake, old man!

YGO AU: Breaking the Seal 06
Chapter 6 Torn Yami Yugi and Yugi awaken Timeaus and call him into action but Yugi also loses something important.
Yugi had made his way to the town square; Joey, Tea and Tristan along with a few more people had already gathered looking up at the sky. The sky had grown dark as they all watched the duel monsters be pulled towards the light and vanish into a set of long teal crystals that hung form the sky. Everyone watched in horror as the hanging crystals had shattered falling towards the earth to reveal the same giant golden eye Yugi had seen in the duel monsters world earlier.
//No way! It can't be!// Yugi yelled in his head.
Dartz chuckled, he could see everything the eye was seeing and spotted his target on the ground below.
“There he is Great Leviathan…seize your target!”
In a flash the eye had powered up and shot down a powerful tornado that zeroed in on Yugi singling him out form the crowd, his friends had already scattered to escape the incoming attack but Yugi stayed frozen in place unable to move his legs in time.
Joey looked back and yelled for him to move but it was too late, the tunnel of wind slammed down on top of Yugi trapping him inside the cascading winds. Yugi had braced for the impact that fell upon him but he wasn't prepared for the power the winds held, it felt like knives cutting into his skin tearing out his flesh and bone. But no it wasn't tearing his body apart physically like would be expected in this scenario, no he could feel his very soul was being ripped away form him.
Yugi clenched his chest as the swirling tunnel of wind started to pull the oxygen form his lungs as well, he felt like he was chocking. His vision was getting blurry and his body felt weak. Soon it went flying up into the winds, like a rag doll he was flopping and flipping all over. He had no idea what was up or down, it was all so confusing and scary at the same time. He really left like his soul was going to leave him and he was really going to die.
From his duel disk a powerful light shined out form his deck; he had just enough mind and strength to touch the card that had suddenly appeared on top. That was all it took, form the card shot a powerful beam of light that broke apart the tornado form inside out, left hanging in the sky was a teal dragon and on his back Yugi was sitting gasping for air desperately.
Down below Yugi's friends watched as the dragon floated in the sky letting out a powerful roar that shook the heavens themselves. Yugi finally getting his bearings realized what he was sitting on, it was Timeaus the legendary dragon he'd just released from his dream.
“You… your Timeaus!” Yugi was shocked but amazed at the fact he was now riding a giant green dragon in the sky above the city.
Yugi looked up and saw that the eye was once again powering up to shoot another blast towards them, his eyes hardened as he gave the command.
“Timeaus! Protect us form that monster!” Yugi yelled and pointed up towards the eye.
Timeaus let out another roar and from the depths of the dragon's throat a firey blast erupted and made contact with the eye's powerful beam of energy. At first it seemed like the attack form Timeaus was going to fail but the dragon reached down within itself and let out a stronger blast that cut through the beam and into the monstrous eye breaking it in half.
Dartz recoiled form the hit and hissed angerly “No! I was so close…”
Soon the bits and pieces of the broken monsters eye started to rain down towards the earth, breaking up further becoming nothing but tiny pebbles that disappeared unnoticed as any other rock on the ground. Timeaus now finished with it's work flew back towards the ground finding a clearing it landed and allowed it's master to slip off it's back. Yugi smiled as he walked up to Timeaus's snout and gave him a gentle pat.
“Thank you…” he said softly.
The dragon let out a low purring like noise before it vanished and turned back into a card appearing in Yugi's hand. Yugi looked at the card; it was a magic card with the image of Timeaus on it the title reading “The Eye of Timeaus”. Yugi was happy the card helped them but was a little confused how it got into his deck like that.
Suddenly a bright pink light appeared before Yugi making him look up, it was Dark Magician Girl floating in front of him a grateful look upon her face. Yami appeared next to Yugi watching the Magician Girl as well.
“Thank You, Master. We can now close the door but the evil power has already escaped into this world you have to-” She stopped speaking once she saw Yugi's eyes suddenly turn blank.
“Master!” she yelled and reached out
Yugi had gone limp and his entire body started to fall over Yami had just seconds to take control and stop himself form falling face first to the ground.
“Yugi! What happened?” Yami asked panicking and holding the ghostly form of his partner, but something felt off he felt…lighter? It was hard to describe but typically even in a ghostly form Yugi did have some weight to him even when he floated in the air beside his own body. With no real tangibility since he was just a soul at that point, but this time it felt like he barely had that weight to him.
Dark Magician Girl watched and soon realized what happened and held her hands up to her mouth in fear.
“No!” she yelled making Yami look towards her and ask what was wrong.
“He… the monster…it took half of his soul!”
Yami's eyes widened in fear “No! It can't be! Yugi! Wake up! Can you hear me?” he shock his soul trying to stir him awake but it did nothing, Yugi was out like a light and looking more faded then before.
This again causing Yami to panic he looked to Dark Magician Girl his eyes begging her for an answer. She looked over to him her eyes were wavering almost like she was going to cry, she stared back at him and answered.
“You must recover his soul from the ones who took it before-before it's too late! He will not survive without his full soul for long…” She looked down worried and even more saddened.
Yami's hands were shaking he was feeling at least 5 different emotions all at once, anger, fear, confusion, sadness, uncertainty. He held onto Yugi's ghostly image for a bit more before it vanished back into their body. He looked to Dark Magician Girl again his eyes were hard but in the corners tears started to form.
“How…how do I stop them? How do I get my partner's soul back?” he asked trying to keep the rage that was bubbling in his voice down.
Dark Magician Girl looked up towards the sky, the aurora was starting to fade away she knew she didn't have much time left on this side.
“You must free the other two dragons…You must defeat the evil god before it's too late! Please! I'm counting on you Master!” She then turned into glittering pink stars that shot up towards the sky, once it did the aurora had stopped and the night sky returned once again.
Yami looked up at the sky then down at the Timeaus card in his hand. //Yugi…I promise I'll save you and the two worlds. I hope this card will help me do that…//
“Yugi!”
Yami turned around and saw his friends running towards him, he greeted them with a soft smile he was glad to see all of them were okay. He quickly pocketed the magic card before Joey threw his arms around Yugi without hesitation and hugged him tightly.
“Yug! are you alright?!” Joey shouted.
Yami smiled and said “I'm fine Joey…”
Joey pulled away quickly after it hit him the Yugi he just hugged was in fact Yami Yugi and not Yugi himself.
“Sorry! You okay man?” Joey asked resting his hands on Yami's shoulders, now worried Yami Yugi was upset by the gesture only to find he was surprised but not at all upset by the action.
“I'm fine everyone, I just got the wind knocked out of me…” Yami Yugi answered.
Tea watched and she too had realized this was the Pharaoh speaking through Yugi again. She was happy Yami was safe but now she was worried about Yugi's safety. The Pharaoh only took over when Yugi was in danger and after being attacked by a giant monster and being flung up into the air in that way.
“Are you sure you're okay… Pharaoh?” Tea was very firm in her words and addressed Yami directly, her eyes wavered a bit.
Yami turned to face her and saw the fear in her eyes, she was trying to remain brave about this but the worry in her cerulean blue eyes betrayed her. Yami smiled softly to her and gave a thumbs up with a wink.
“I'll be fine once I'm at home and can rest.” Yami answered.
“Well in that case-”
Tristan then got down on his knees and held his hands behind him, his back facing Yugi waiting on him to hop on up on his back.
“Let's get you home.”
Yami again was shocked by this action and tried to back away a bit “Oh no that's not necessary Tristan, I can walk…”
“Not gonna happen pal, everyone gets one free piggyback ride off of me! Time to punch your ticket!” he smiled.
Yami returned the smile knowing he wasn't going to win this battle, so he satiled himself on Tristan's back. Tristan got back up after making sure Yami was secure and started walking the other two following beside him.
Yami wasn't used to this at all, he didn't like being fussed over and being carried like this felt like he was taking advantage of a friend, so he asked.
“I'm not too heavy am I?”
Tristan just chuckled and replied “Seriously? Dude your like a backpack to me, not even a very heavy one! Your like what 90lbs?”
Joey chuckled too “Yeah, I've carried you over my shoulders before Yug.”
“O-oh…” Yami was a little embarrassed at this admission, he knew he wasn't exactly the biggest guy in the yard but he still felt a touch insecure about just how small and scrawny he was in comparison to his friends. He kept forgetting Yugi's wasn't the largest person in his grade and people did tend to tower over him quite a bit.
“Besides I'm kinda used to lugging around people, so everyone is gonna get a shot at a Taylor made piggy back ride, except for Joey your dead ass can walk.” Tristan said flatly making Joey yell in frustration about how he was gonna be a dead man next.
Tea just rolled her eyes and kept walking down the street with her friends, she really did need to get some girl friends at some point.
--
Once they reached Yugi's home Tristan let Yami off slowly; Yami came down and thanked Tristan for his help.
“Guys we're really gonna have to talk about things tomorrow.” Tea finally spoke out, her concern was clear in her voice.
They all nodded together, Yami said “First thing in the morning 8 am sharp. Right back here.” again they all agreed to the time.
As Yami said his fare wells to his friends, Joey spoke up
“Hey Yug, you know it's a bit of long walk back to my place and I'm…uh a bit scared of the dark…would it be okay for me to spend the night?”
This coming form Joey was a bit of surprise to all of them, he wasn't someone to admit his fears so easily and to admit he was afraid of the dark was also odd of him.
“Well…let me just ask Grandpa for permission, okay? ” Yami then disappeared behind the door to find Grandpa in the living room who was waiting for his return.
“I'm not picky, I'll take the stable!” Joey jokingly yelled out.
Tristan crossed his arms while Tea rested her hands on her hips both looked at Joey with a grin on their faces making Joey pout a bit and ask annoyed “What?”
“You're not fooling anyone, Wheeler.” Tristan said bluntly.
“Huh? What are you talking about? I told you I'm just scared of the dark that's all!” Joey was lying of course but he didn't want his friends to know it.
“Yeah, your as transparent as a glass window.” Tea smirked before softening her expression “You're worried about Yugi and you want to keep and eye on him tonight.”
Joey signed he knew the jig was up so he relented and confessed “He's been targeted two nights in a row, whatever is at the heart of all of this clearly wants him.”
Joey stuffed his hands into his pockets and looked up the sky, it was still quite cloudy and the hustle of the city was still present in the atmosphere.
“But I'm not gonna let them take him. They can crawl over my dead body and I'd still never let them hurt him.” Joey looked to his friends with a confident smile “I'll protect him you guys.”
Tea's heart was lighter now, she knew just how strong Joey was physically and his fighting spirit was one of his most powerful aspects about him, she knew Yugi was in good hands.
Tristan gave Joey a nod “I know you will dude.”
Yami poked his head out form the door and said “Alright Joey, Grandpa says it's okay.”
Joey smiled “sweet! I'll show myself in! Night guys!” he waved to the others before heading inside the house after Yami. Tristan and Tea both waved back before making their own way home as well.
--
Joey was on the floor laying down on a futon, his jacket resting on Yugi's desk chair as he waited for Yami to finish changing back into his pyjamas again. He crawled into bed and pulled the covers up, he looked down and Joey and asked.
“Will you be comfortable on the ground like that? Are you sure you don't want to trade? ”
Joey grinned “relax man I've slept on worse ground then this, besides your bed's a single my feet will dangle over the sides!” he chuckled.
Yami chuckled too laying back on his pillow “That's true, also the monsters may get your feet that way.”
Joey froze, he knew Yami was joking but now he was a little scared…he pulled his feet under the covers more just making sure they where fully covered.
“Y-yeah…goodnight Yug…”
“See you in the morning Joey.” Yami turned over and pulled the sheets up to his chest the puzzle was still around his neck. Normally he knew Yugi didn't sleep with it on, far too uncomfortable to have it around his neck and risk of it stabbing into his chest as he slept was also a possibility. But tonight was different Yugi was still out of it and he really did need to speak with him privately when he did wake up.
Yami held onto the chain as he faced the wall again, he hoped Yugi would meet him in their shared mind space. That way they could speak together and hopefully come up with a plan. But Yugi didn't awaken for the rest of the night. Even with Joey's constant snoring it still didn't stir his partner, so he spent another night in worry over Yugi's safety…
--
That morning Joey was up first; he was used to having to be up at a abysmal time since he had to deliver papers normally but this morning he was free of that job. But it didn't mean he was free form work. Grandpa had met Joey downstairs as he was cooking breakfast for them, and offered Joey a plate of food.
Joey was more then happy to accept this platter of eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries and toast. But his meal also came with a bit of stipulation, since Grandpa was barred form using the ladder he needed someone to go up and help install the new glass in Yugi's window. And so he did after his meal of course, not that he felt like he owed it to Grandpa for letting him spend the night. More so he felt it would help put Yugi's mind at ease if his Grandfather kept away form heights.
The sound of Joey's work outside is what stirred Yugi awake; he was surprised to have woken up in bed again, that was the second night in a row this happened in last two days. Waking up away form where he once was, this reminded him of the early days after solving the Millennium puzzle. Having black outs with events happening around him all the while he was unaware of them. But those days were over as far as he knew.
Yugi got up form bed and swung his legs over the side, his feet touched the ground as he tried to get up and out of bed only to feel his legs wobble and forced him to sit back down. He only then realized just how tried and unrested he felt…
“Whoa! What's going on? Why am I so…tired?” Yugi looked at his window and saw Joey was in fact outside trying to install a plane of glass.
“Joey?”
Joey was too busy trying to install the glass since he had to listen to Grandpa's instructions form below him, he didn't hear Yugi speak.
//okay, this is just so weird…// Yugi thought.
//Partner! You're finally awake!// Yami's ghostly form now stood before Yugi, his face was both relived and excited to finally see him up and about.
“Other me! What happened last night? Is Dark Magician Girl okay? How'd I get back in bed? And why is Joey fixing my window?”
Yugi was in a bit of a panic as he tried to stand up again only for his legs to give out on him again.
“And what is going on with my legs!?” he shouted frustrated with his legs for not working.
Yami sighed watching his partner and looked down a bit upset that he had to tell him…
//Partner…you're life may be in danger…//
Yugi looked up at that other Yugi, his eyes wavered in worry, he knew that look on his face meant nothing but bad news…
“What do you mean?”
Not too long after; Yugi's other friends had arrived and were sitting in the living room together with the laptop open and the news channel was blaring on about the strangle sensations sweeping the world the night before. The strange aurora in the sky that spread all across the planet, the duel monsters still appearing all over the world suddenly vanishing, and odd destructive tornadoes effecting everyone.
Joey was still outside helping to clean up from his work with Yugi's window, they were all waiting on him to come inside so they could finish talking about everything that happened over the last two nights.
“So it wasn't just us experiencing this, the whole world was tossed for a loop…” Tristan said watching the screen.
“And you said you got a card form the Duel Monsters world Yugi?” Tea gestured to the Timeaus card sitting on the table next to the laptop.
“Yeah, it's called the Eye of Timeaus and it saved me…” Yugi watched the card before taking it into his hands.
“But it looks like a regular duel monsters card to me, how could it have done all that stuff?” Tristan folded his arms.
“But it has the power to save the world…I even rode on it's back! This card is very special I can feel it…”
And Yugi could feel the power of the dragon it was resonating within him, like it was calling out to him the same power he felt the night he fought the bikers…
//…did you help me before Timeaus?// Yugi asked.
//Before? Have you seen this card before Yugi?// Yami asked a bit surprised to be hearing this form him now.
//Well…// Yugi was about to answer when Tea spoke up again.
“So what should we do now? We don't have any leads on who those biker guys were. Or if they're even connected to all of this…” Tea looked down now trying to think, then she looked over at Yugi.
Yugi was looking a bit paler then he should have which concerned Tea greatly, she was hoping with rest Yugi would be doing better today but instead he looked worse, like he didn't sleep a wink last night so she asked him.
“Yugi…did you sleep last night? You look you barely rested at all…”
Yugi looked up and tried to force a smile to her “Yeah! I slept fine Tea! I just need some coffee and I'll be right as reign!”
Yugi wasn't fooling anyone though they all knew he was hiding the truth behind a mask of a smile again. But before he could be grilled any further they heard the door open and a pair of feet walk into the living room, it was Joey of course but he looked just as pale as Yugi did.
“Oh hey Joey's here!” Yugi tried to deflect attention off himself and now over to Joey. Yugi did notice Joey's expression of fear while in his hands he held a small package.
“Joey, is everything okay?” Yugi got up to tried to walk over to him but his legs again failed and forced him back into his seat, Tea had noticed and was more worried then before.
“Uh… Yug this package just came for you, gramps told me to give it to ya but…uh…” Joey was sweating buckets now as he walked over and presented the package to him.
“You ain't gonna believe who it's form…”
“Whose it from Joey?” Yugi took the package and read the senders name “Oh no!”
“What's it say?” Tea and Tristan both got up to join Yugi and Joey and read the senders name for themselves “From Industrial Illusions care of the Office of Maximilian Pegasus!”
They all yelled in unison and fear, it wasn't the fact the package was sent to Yugi form the creator of Duel Monsters Maximilian J. Pegasus himself. But the fact this was exactly how Duellist Kingdom had started all those mouths back! They all stared at the package on the table and started to remember the events that lead to Yugi's grandfather's soul being taken after a shadow game with Pegasus via an video cassette.
While memory was a difficult one to recall form him, Yugi knew it couldn't be a coincidence that suddenly out of the blue Pegasus had sent him a package after all the mess that was happening in the world right now. Yugi opened the package and saw there was a duel monsters card inside with a picture of a key on it, also inside was a USB stick.
“Wow looks like he upgraded to something more modern…” Joey said.
“So what? we just stick it in the laptop and get another video massage looking for a duel?” Tristan gulped.
“Yeah, I say we toss that thing and never think about it again!” Joey was sweating nervously.
“What are you so nervous about? It's not like he has the Millennium Eye anymore, so he can't hurt us right Yugi?” Tea was also a bit scared but she was trying to be more optimistic about things.
“That's true…” Yugi looked over to his other self and asked with his eyes.
//We should play the message, perhaps Pegasus may know something that can help us.// Yami answered.
//You think he may be involved?// Yugi asked again.
//Yes. Very likely.//
Yugi nodded then picked up the stick and placed it into the drive on his laptop, a window popped up on screen and there was only one file in the USB drive, so Yugi clicked on it launching the video player.
“Let's watch it.” Yugi said firmly.
Everyone else jumped back and braced for whatever was going to come form this. Yugi waited and swallowed a bit himself unsure of what to expect. Soon the video played, Pegasus greeted them sitting in a chair at his desk, legs crossed with his hands resting on his elevated knee.
“Long time no see Yugi-Boy! You must know about the strange events happening world wide.”
“Phew looks like a normal video…” Joey let out a sigh of relief.
“I created the game of duel monsters, but those monsters have become real and are causing panic all around the world and that's just not good for business! Luckily Kaiba-Boy has been taking most of the heat for this, but in my investigation I've discovered something…”
“Discovered something? Like what?” Tea asked.
“I need you to come and speak with me in person Yugi-Boy, I would have come out to see you myself but someone is watching me…” Pegasus then looked down worry all over his face, an expression they all noticed quickly.
“I don't know if this message and package will reach you in time, but if it does please take the enclosed card and come to America!”
“America?” Yugi said
“I've sent a plane to pick you up! Hurry quickly! Before it's too late!” Pegasus yelled in a panic before the video had stopped playing.
“What the hell is happening? Does he really expect us to hop a plane and head to the other half of the world just outta the blue?” Joey asked.
//We have to go, Pegasus may be our only lead. We'll have to take this journey.// Yami said
When Yugi heard the word 'journey' it triggered his memory about the self reading he had the other night, The chariot card in the future! It must have been foretelling this very event!
//Yeah! Let's go!// Yugi responded to the spirit.
“Guys, I'm going to America!”

Truly my heart goes out to any yugi boomer who’s grinding out master duel competitive. Once you break the Gold rank barrier you’ll see the game pace changes so drastically that it’s practically a whole different game. This has pretty much been the case since the game launched but boy has the Mets gotten far stronger since then.
The Kashtira’s have finally had enough time for everyone to get a hang of em so they’re heavily dominating higher up lobbies, in my experience, and so far none of my older decks are holding their own too well against them. I’ve been consistently able to win against past meta builds with any of my tried and true anime esque decks.
Red Supernova Dragon Turbo, Crimson Nova OTK, The Sacred Beasts, Blue-Eyes Turbo (either fusion or ritual focus), Winged Dragon of Ra OTK, Ancient Gears, Dark World, Destiny Board (Banlist killed this one), and even gimmicky stuff like Banishment (Gren Maju Necroface etc), and Burn Deck Variants. They’re all getting their asses handed to them compared to how they performed previously. My newest deck however, currently named We Love Casting Spells, is holding its own quite well. It’s a gimmicky mill deck that mainly relies on the Runick and Invoked engines. That’s all I’ve got that wins more than half its games rn so looks like it’s the jank path for me for the time being. Even so, Kashtira’s are still an annoying pain in the ass.
How’re you guys feeling on the current meta?

I'm about to make the case for Yuma because let's be real nobody else will. Is this an actually solid case? I do not know and do not care.
Yusei's deck is very hit-or-miss and always has been, while Yugi and Judai's decks don't really have the capacity to keep up with the more modern meta. Yeah HEROes and Dark Magician have received an arseton of support but Yugi and Judai don't have access to that as far as we're aware. Master rule 4 or 5 completely screwed pendulums over so Yuya's deck is probably near-nonfunctional. That basically leaves us at Yuma and Yusaku. Which you think'd be obviously Yusaku.
HOWEVER. Yuma comes off as a total idiot and probably gets underestimated; even his major championship victory gets canonically undermined because of this and the fact that Kaito is the de-facto winner, and Yuma has the most losses of any of the master duel protags (Yuga might have more I haven't counted). Everyone else here has a pretty solid records comparatively and some pretty major achievements that are not ignored by everyone and their mother, so they've got the targets aimed at each other.
Also. He's probably running all the goddamn numbers. While they're not all summonable by his deck there's still over a hundred of them and that gives him a pretty versatile range of effects to work with, and anime numbers have the busted ass "can only be destroyed by another number rule". Code Talkers are also busted though I'm not super familiar with how; again Yusaku's the only real threat here besides Yuma imo, but the characters probably don't see it that way. Code Talkers can probably subvert the Numbers thing but that requires him to focus on Yuma from the getgo, which again, I don't think happens. Most likely everyone's initial focus is on shutting down the Code Talker combos because they're obviously that big an issue and even if most of their decks have been fucked by time or poor design these are still skilled duelists who know their decks in and out and if Yusaku becomes the primary target they probably knock him out. But in the process he's gonna wear all their LP down and give Yuma an opportunity to snag victory.
Yuma also has Deus ex Machina Shining Draw, which is by far the most powerful and reliable Deus ex Machina of everyone.
Tl;dr: Only Yusaku and Yuma are running effectively playable decks and everyone's gonna see Yusaku as the bigger threat so he goes down early, then Yuma tears the remains of everyone else to shreds.
Who do you guys think would win in Free For All Duel?

Yugi Mutou x Disney Descendants!Reader - Card Queen
For Yugi, life was getting boring. He had recently earned himself the title of King of Games thanks to his spirit friend Yami, and his friend, Joey, was finally going to be able to pay for his sister's eye surgery. However, everyday just seemed to be the same. Wake up, go to school, see his friends, be challenged to a duel, go home, help Grandpa with the game shop, go to sleep, and repeat. There was nothing new or really fun anymore, even with the spirit around.
For (Y/n), life was getting boring. Her friends had left to go to some goody two-shoes school in another country, her mother wanted her to get a boyfriend, and no one shared or peaked her interest. She was a master of card games but no one would play with her. There was nothing to do anymore other than mess with any random chump who decided to get in her way. (Y/n) was the daughter of the Queen of Hearts and the Headless Horseman so what did that mean other than that no one would really approach her.
For both of them, there needed to be a change of pace.
-(Yugi's POV)-
"Hey Yuug! Did ya hear there's gonna be a new student coming to the school?" I looked up from my dazed state and looked at Joey in confusion. "Really?" Tristan smiled and nodded excitedly, "Yup! Apparently she's really good at card games!" I nodded, looking back down at my desk. Looks like it'll be the same old thing again.
"Alright everyone," called the teacher as he entered into the classroom, "As you all might've heard we have a new student. Please treat her nicely. Come on in and introduce yourself." I looked up in time to see a beautiful girl with (H/C) hair walk in. "Heyo everyone! The name's (Y/n) Heartman. I enjoy card games so if any of you want to play a game, I'll gladly play. Hope we can get along."
I could hardly keep my eyes off of her. She was gorgeous. "Alright, (Y/n) go take a seat in the back next to Joey. Joey raise your hand." I felt something in me tighten. My heart. Why did Joey of all people get to sit next to her? As she walked passed my desk, I was shocked when she looked at me in the eye, and winked. I could feel my face heat up and Tristan smirked at me, giving a look that could only mean one thing: "You lucked out, man."
- Time Skip -
As the bell rang, signaling the end of class, Joey started talking to (Y/n). It actually sounded like he was challenging her to a duel. "You said you'd gladly play so how about you duel my pal Yugi over there? He's the King of Games!" She seemed confused. "Who's Yugi?" I turned away quickly in my seat as Joey point me out.
The sound of a chair moving away from it's matching desk sounded in the classroom and I became stiff as a board when (Y/n) appeared in front of my desk. "Hey there! Do we have time for a quick game before our next class?" Joey shrugged. "Next class is free period since the teach's out sick. So.. yea I think so." The (H/C) female nodded. "Alright then, would you like to duel?"
I nodded nervously and Tea walked over, putting a hand on my shoulder. "You don't have to duel her if you don't want! Joey wasn't being considerate. "I can take over for you if you want." Came the voice of my spirit friend, Yami. "No. It's fine."
"I.. I kinda want to duel her on my own."
With that, she whipped out a duel monster deck and shuffled them. I did the same and simultaneously, we set up the game. Tea looked behind me and smiled, walking over beside Joey. "He's got a good starting hand. He might be able to win this quickly." I frowned, was she trying to be quiet? It wasn't working. "You never know. We've never faced her before so we don't know what her deck's like." Replied Joey and Tea rolled her eyes. "It cant be that powerful. I mean, she looks and acts like a big shot beginner."
"It's rude to talk about someone like that, especially when you know they can hear you." Came the cool voice of (Y/n) as she placed two cards face down. Tea rolled her eyes again and the game continued. "Alright, I'll place two cards face down and summon Celtic Guardian in defense mode! Your turn!"
(Y/n) drew a card and smiled. "Alright then, I'll play Full On Assault to switch your Celtic Guardian into Attack mode then summon my Queen's Knight in Attack mode. I'll attack your monster for 100 life points off of your own! Your turn."
Yugi: 1900 (Y/n): 2000
I was surprised, as were we all. Queen's Knight wasn't a very common card so the fact that she got it out and was attacking it was quite shocking. "Oh well, try this on for size! Next I'll play my Curse of Dragon to attack your Queen's Knight!"
I shouldn't have done that.
"You just activated my Trap Card!" (Y/n) flipped over one of her face down cards and smiled. "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow! Your attack is negated and I'm able to set this card face down again! I draw, and summon King's Knight. Thanks to the special ability of the King and Queen's Knights, I can also summon the Jack's Knight. Now I sacrifice all of them to summon my favorite card! I summon the Card Deck Dragon!"
"The Card Deck Dragon?!" That card was in the rarity levels alongside the Blue Eyes White Dragon and the Red Eyes Black Dragon! (Y/n) smiled. "Yup! This is my baby! Since you have more monsters in your graveyard, my monster gets its defense points raised by 500! Also, I'll attack your monster to lower your life points again, but this time by 500! And for good measure I'll play Cemetery Bomb for an additional 200 damage.
Yugi: 1200 (Y/n): 2000
"Okay.. I'll draw and summon Gaia the Fierce Knight in attack mode. Next I'll put a card face down and play the spell card Swords of Revealing Light!" Her eyes widened and she frowned. "Should've seen that coming. That was a good play, Yugi!" I blushed and hid my face behind my cards. "Th-thanks.." Why was I being so bashful? This was strange. I mean, I was sometimes like this around girls, but this was to a whole new level. "I'll end my turn there."
(Y/n) nodded and drew a card. She seemed to be planning something but couldn't put it in play because she couldn't attack. Finally, she placed a card down. "I'll play Lord of Dragons in Attack mode and end my turn." That was confusing. Why would she leave a card like that out in the open. I fortunately had a trap card that could negate her face down card, but did I really want to risk it? Sure why not?
"I'll draw and attack your Lord of Dragons with my Fierce Knight."
Yugi: 1200 (Y/n): 900
(Y/n) began to smile. "Alright then. Remind me how many turns I have left before I can attack?" I tilted my head in confusion. "Two. Why?" She smirked and drew a card, placing it into her hand and revealing a Spell card. "I play Mystical Space Typhoon and wipe away your Swords of Revealing Light. Thanks to this, I can attack your Knight with my Dragon. For a grand total of 500 life points."
Yugi: 700 (Y/n): 900
"EH? What're you tryna pull? It's only 200 life points!" Said Joey about to get in (Y/n)'s face but I stopped him. "No, Joey. She's right. I just realized it too. One of the special abilities of the Card Deck Dragon gives it a boost in power in a certain circumstance. It's what makes it so powerful"
(Y/n) nodded. "Yup! The ability is called Dealer's Advantage. If the user has more monsters in their graveyard than their opponent, then CDD gets an Attack boost of 500! If the opponent has more monsters in their graveyard, then CDD gets a Defense boost of 500. Those stats add and subtract based on how the game changes."
"No way! That's crazy!" Said Tea. "Where did you get such a powerful card from?" (Y/n) shrugged. "It was a present from my dad. I'm known as the Queen of Cards back home so when I was first getting into the game, my dad found good cards so I could build my deck. Anyway, it's your turn, Yugi."
"R-right." I drew a card and frowned. At the moment, I couldn't take down her dragon, not only that, but her face down card was the biggest problem. I would need to sacrifice my face down card to get this right. "I play Heavy Storm and take away all trap and spell cards in play." (Y/n) smiled. "Nice!" She put the card in her graveyard and looked at me expectantly. "Alright then, I'll place one card face down and summon my Dark Magician in Attack Mode!"
(Y/n)'s eyes widened. "A Dark Magician?! No way! Those cards are wicked awesome!" I blushed hard, hiding once again behind my cards. "I-it's my favorite card." She smiled kindly. "I can see why! Not only is it rare, but it's incredibly powerful! Especially when combined with the Dark Magician Girl!" I nodded excitedly. I wasn't used to people being THIS into the game like I was.
"Alright, I draw, lay down one card face down and end my turn." I blinked in surprise. I was expecting something more. "Alright. I'll draw and place down the Dark Magician Girl in Attack Mode. Finally, I play the Spell card Dark Magic Twin Burst to destroy your life points and your dragon!"
"Not so fast! I reveal my face down card! Attack and Receive! This attacks your life points directly costing you 700 Life Points!" The duel was over.
The two of us stared at each other. Technically speaking, it was a dead tie. Both attacks landed the blows to each other's life points which dropped them both down to solid zeros.
"Wait", said Joey in confusion, "Did.. did Yugi just lose?" Tea was at a loss for words. "No." was all I could say. I didn't look away from (Y/n) and I began to smile. "It was a tie. Both of us won and lost." (Y/n) looked extremely pleased and her (E/C) eyes shone brightly as she blushed happily. Just then, the tense air was broken by the school bell. During the duel, an entire free period had gone by.
Tea sighed. "We'd better get to our next classes." Joey nodded and the two of them left the classroom. As I was about to leave, after cleaning up my cards, a hand stopped me. "Yugi, I want you to have this." (Y/n) stood behind me, holding out a card.
"This card, if you chose to use it, can help you get out your magician faster." I looked at the card and then at (Y/n). "I'm honored that you would give this to me, but why are you doing it?" The girl smiled. "You deserve it. Not only that, but thanks to you, I've finally met my match! You don't realize how happy that makes me. I've never tied with or lost to anyone before."
I was shocked. "R-really?" She nodded. "Yeah. I'm glad to know that I can finally have a good match. Let's duel again sometime!" I nodded happily. "Yes! That would be awesome!" (Y/n) smiled again and began to leave the classroom but I called after her. "By the way, since neither of us lost the duel, but both of us lost, I guess you're the Queen of Games now." She looked at me an then laughed. "Maybe not of all Games. I'm happy with being the Card Queen for now. See ya around Yugi!"
With that, she was gone.
I smiled happily, clutching the card she had given me. Life had just gotten a lot more interesting.

Yu Gi Oh OCs!! The boy with the purple hair is Avram and the one with black hair is Kai!! Kai is a ghost that haunts the card Trap Master which is in Avram's deck. Kai often torments him, giving him nightmares. Kai starts to trust Avram and gives him the nickname " Soulmate " I wanted him to have a nickname like Yami has for Yugi uwu Avram is for DM! He is of royal descent from Romania! He likes to go by Avi, but only with friends!! He comes across Yugi and his friends when Avi was trying to hide from his guards during a trip to Japan. Yugi lets him hide in his grandfather's shop! Avram is able to tell whenever Yami is in charge of Yugi's body, he gets a different vibe when the pharaoh is out, It seems that his skills with seeing Kai helped him. Kai doesn't like the pharaoh because he always tries to talk to him and set Kai on the "right path." Kai was k!lled by his girlfriend because she thought he was cheating, as his apartment was being torn apart and stuff stolen, he managed to slip his soul into his deck of cards before they were taken too. I chose the trap master card because I really liked the art and I thought its ability was pretty good in a duel!! I wanna draw Kai as the card at some point too!
Also Idk if this card was a thing in DM or if it was introduced later?? But I liked the art too much lol so Avram's special I guess I used Yami and Kaiba as bases for the ygo style!! I didn't get to finish Kai's so its not yassifed like Avi's is lol I really like them!! I enjoyed trying to make a character with that ygo hair lol and I hope I got it right!! If you want to know anything about them or ask them a question I'll happily answer!! <3

@joukaiweek is almost over... here’s another one....
The Wrong Place, the Wrong Time
rating G
characters joey wheeler/seto kaiba, appearances by everyone

1/24 - in another life || once in a lifetime
Seto and Joey have had a thousand chances to get to know each other. One time, they actually do.
1.
The blond sticks his hand out, a bright smile wide on his face. It would be startling, if Seto were not already wearing blinders. The world is a pinpoint of light emanating from the card on the counter in front of him. His heartbeat is a steady pulse in his temple, and his mouth tastes sour.
“You like Duel Monsters?” the idiot says, oblivious to quicksand Seto is sinking into. “We should play sometime.”
“I’d have more of a challenge playing solitaire.” The barb leaves Seto’s mouth without a thought. The idiot recoils. The old man withdraws the card. The Blue Eyes White Dragon. The one he’s been searching for.
He will not muse on this first meeting, but something shifts nonetheless. Yugi becomes his sole focus, the new jugular to sink his jaw into, but in all instances, burning the corner of his eyes, bleeding through the cracks in the walls he must build, there is the sun.
2.
Fists curled, bone against bone, gravity, and Joey is prone.
He tastes blood, sees red. It’s how he goes through the world. He’s a better person now trying to be a better person, and his instinct is still to solve problems with his fists. Anger seethes through him, embarrassment. His eyes draw up to see, framed in the moonlight crawling through the trees, Kaiba isn’t even looking at him.
Joey has been talked down to his whole life. He has been beaten, and used, by people he trusts, by people he loves. He has weathered words and fists all the same. He’s taken it from everyone. He won’t take it anymore.
The image of Kaiba’s cold blue eyes reflecting moonlight digs deep into his brain. His ghoulish frame haunts him. Kaiba is not just a rival. He is a mountain to climb, a peak to master, a grim specter to overcome. Not a person but a symbol, one Joey is enthusiastic to take down.
3.
There’s no such thing as losing in Kaiba’s world.
There are no such thing as friends.
And what Seto does, he doesn’t do for fun.
It’s been an exhausting day of reliving his childhood trauma and killing his adopted father (again) while also competing in his own grueling tournament and watching people die over a children’s card game while trying to piece together melting faces and deal with reality crumbling down around him. And then, rising from his death bed like a phoenix rising from the flames, Joey Wheeler stands before him with a deck of cards in hand.
Seto wants to scream. He wants to claw at his own skin. He wants to bury himself beneath the dirt where surely the land will turn gray and useless and nothing will grow again. Instead, he accepts the challenge. He plays the game. It’s the only thing he’s ever really been good at.
Wheeler is laughing. Joy spreads across his exhausted face as he takes control of his precious Blue Eyes and mocks Kaiba with it. Anger heats the ice cold stone that is his bones. Seto strikes back. Quicker, faster. His mind thinking again. It’s a challenge. And in the end, he wins.
All the while, Wheeler never loses his smile. Seto thinks for a moment, maybe in the brief flash where their eyes met, that he understands.
As if anybody could.
4.
The world is coming to an end. The safe confines of school walls and familiar faces, distant teachers, and daily schedules, all disappearing after graduation. The threads that hold them have already loosened. The gang holds hands at the gate of the airport as Anzu prepares to take off to New York. It’s not the first time they’ve said goodbye to a friend.
Joey wonders aloud one lazy Sunday, hanging upside down on Yugi’s bed as they play Mario Kart together, why Kaiba wasn’t there for graduation. He doesn’t know why the stray thought enters his mind. None of them have seen him in nearly a year, except on billboards, or speaking from stadium speakers. He is now a distant white point on the horizon. Joey could forget he ever knew him, if he wanted.
“Oh, he didn’t go to school with us,” Yugi said. “I think he was just there for, you know.”
Joey settles into this new knowledge with unusual contemplation. There’s so much their group has been through together, all of them, even Mai and Serenity and Duke Devlin of all people. Friends bound by the experiences they’d shared, and the moments spent together. Yugi doesn’t hold grudges, Joey doesn’t either, and they’ve all made choices they regret. He wonders, briefly, if there’s another world, one where their save-the-world conflicts might just be schoolyard shenanigans, or battles of life and death would be simple rivalries between friends. In that world, would Kaiba be here with them now? Playing video games and eating junk food? Would any of them be together?
It’s too much to think about, and never going to happen. Kaiba was too busy being Kaiba, and they had the rest of their lives to move on. Maybe it was time to start leaving the past where it belonged. Kaiba had always believed that. Joey was starting to think he might be right.
5.
It’s after hours at Kaiba Corp. The only light in the building comes from top office, miles above the rest of the world. Domino is a dream beneath Seto as he goes over the final numbers for the upcoming tournament. He sees an entry that makes him pause.
Seto hasn’t dueled in a long time. He doesn’t need to anymore. His only competition has bowed out. It’s not–and he strains beneath his word–fun anymore. His childhood fantasies have finally given away to the boring in and outs of running a corporation. His days are too busy to think about anything more than his brand. He has to stay above the competition.
The tournaments are part of that brand. He keeps an eye on newcomers and industry stars. Duel Monsters introduces new card types, new rules, and there’s a lot to follow along with. So he makes sure to track the stats of all players he think are worth keeping an eye on.
Joey Wheeler is one of those players.
He had a boost in his rankings since his initial high profile invitations, and his numbers have only climbed. He rarely loses these days, and he has a face that makes you want to buy a soda can. He grins from the computer screen. Despite his filled out build, and his longer hair, and the extra piercings that decorate his face, it’s the same look he’s always had when facing down an opponent bigger than him.
And for a single, solitary breath, Seto is nostalgic.
It’s a crueler feeling than it has any right to be. The melancholy balloons in his lungs and threatens to spill over. Most wax about a simpler time, but things have always been a tangled ball of sinew and bone for him. There was a brief while where it was an easier time, where he acted out the wild thoughts in his head, and got to tower over others, and there were those who, in their own way, tried to understand. He’d never had friends, but proximity allowed him to at least have companions.
His fingers move without thinking. He is so ruthlessly alone now, without even the joy of competition. Wheeler’s number would be registered with the tournament. He already had his file open. It’d take no effort at all to send a message, toss his bottle in the open sea, and wait for someone to rescue him.
His work message dings with an alert from Kaiba Corp San Francisco. He closes his phone and removes the tournament information. The moment is gone, filed away with the rest of his regrets.
0.
“Hey!” a voice bellows across the sun kissed sands. “Kaiba!”
Seto turns his head at the elongated syllables. He stares in absolute shock as a figure bounds through the beach crowd, apologizing quickly as he kicks over a kid’s bucket and wincing as he steps on a shell. Wheeler appears as a mirage coming out of the desert sands, golden haired and golden skinned with an unbuttoned shirt hanging loosely over board shorts. He stops in front of Kaiba, gazing up at him with his puppy dog stare.
Joey says, breathlessly, “I knew it was you.”
He hadn’t believed it, spying the craning figure down the coastline, but a more familiar face lounges on a beach towel, soaking up rays. Adena has recrafted her image entirely since transitioning and still manages to look as cool as ever in her surfer gear.
“Hey, Joey,” she says. “What’re you doing here?”
“We’re in San Diego,” Seto says, still looking dumbfounded. Joey laughs.
“I’m visiting my sister.” He points down the beach, where Serenity is engaged in a spirited game of beach volleyball. “What are you doing out in the sun?”
Joey hasn’t stopped associating Kaiba with moonlight. But in the sun he looks–well, he looks good. No longer so bone thin. They’re thirty now and older, and it’s starting to show on their skin, in their hair, in the weight they’ve gained. He strikes a humbler, softer visage. He’s not tan but his bare shoulders have started to freckle. Joey doesn’t know what to do with that information, so he laughs.
Seto can see all the ways he’s changed too. His muscles are padded with years, and his hair is pulled back into a ponytail. His battle scars are faded. Laugh lines frame his face in a way that makes him look joyful.
It’s been a lifetime.
“I can’t believe I’m running into you,” Joey says. “I had a bet going with Yugi that you were replaced by a robot a long time ago. And then you dropped off the face of the earth.”
“I was,” Seto says, breathes in, and let’s go, “taking me time. A heart attack before thirty will do that.”
Joey winces. “I heard about that. Sucks.”
Seto isn’t one to dwell. “You’re Duel Monsters champion.”
He laughs. “Officially, yeah. ‘Course, unofficially, you and Yugi still have the same win record. I’ve never taken you in a fight.”
“Seto plays that phone game,” Adena says, flipping her magazine. “He loses all the time to grade schoolers.”
Joey blinks. Seto tries not to look embarrassed. Of course, of all the things Joey has witnessed him do, this probably doesn’t even register to him.
“We should play sometime then,” Joey says and gives him a playful punch on the arm. “Set the record straight.”
Adena looks up from her magazine, giving her brother a look. Psychic communication beams from his brain to hers. She adopts a big cheesy grin.
“You know, Joey,” she says, “it’s my birthday on Friday. Seto was gonna take me and my friends out, his treat. You and Serenity should come.”
“Oh, no,” he says. “I don’t wanna–”
“You should come,” Seto interrupts, not an inch showing on his face. “I’m designated driver. Someone should keep me company.”
Psychic communication attempts its way from Seto’s head to Joey’s, but the stormy winds of history keep it from connecting. The last time they ever spoke, they hated each other. The last time they ever spoke, they were in high school.
“Alright,” Joey says. “I’m in.”
“Give him your number, Seto.” Adena sits back with a smug look. “You two should chat.”
Seto dutifully fishes his phone from his bag and begins entering in Joey’s number. “We have some catching up to do.”
“Yeah,” Joey says with a smile. “Sounds fun.”
Seto doesn’t say anything, but he doesn’t have to. For once, they have the rest of their lives to work it all out.
#joukaiweek2022#kaijou#once again i started with something complete different in mind but i think i'm okay with where this went#seto definitely cyber stalks joey's tournament wins i am merely saying

S5 Ep13: How to Get Away With Cheating in the Card Olympics
It’s been a little while since Pegasus made a card that screwed us years after it was developed...and so it’s time for it to happen again. Good ol Pegasus, screwing us all and not even knowing he’s doing it.
First off, it took me until this episode to realize that Leon and Zigfried are German and Leon is playing a Grimm Brother’s deck. I guess I didn’t notice before now because Leon was hiding his identity. But now that I know his deck is because he’s just German it’s like...well OK. That’s kind of cute. Better than that time they had the American play a deck filled with guns.
And that actually...fully explains why they are all dressed old timey. I didn’t pick up on it until just now...they’re referencing old ass fairy tales. But wtv, I still like my reaching theories of why Zigfried dresses like...that.
PS, my twitter just notified me that lots of people are getting a ‘Hime Haircut’, which is exactly the doo that Zigfried wears this season with the cropped side bangs. And like...are we sure? I see Kpop wearing it and Tik Tok kids wearing wigs but...I have yet to see a Hime in the wild. Course I haven’t gone outside in like a year so...maybe tens of thousands of people really did do a Hime Haircut during the Quarantine.
But, damn it, I decided to look at some photos, and a bunch of them looked pretty bad, but a couple looked pretty dope, and now I’m a little bit tempted to get a Hime...but I feel like it took a decade to get out of my bangs phase and like...Do I need two layers of bangs? I have naturally straight hair, I could do this, this haircut was made for me, but...
I just don’t know if I should get a haircut that looks like I’m an anime cosplayer when I can’t back it up. Nope. Cannot get this haircut. I know this haircut was made for teenagers or artists in their 30′s, and literally no one else, but no, this will be a mistake just like the side bangs I gave myself in 2006.
(looks over at scissors)
(read more under the cut)
(get it? Cut?)
Leon recalls that his brother very nicely gave him a card, and he’s so excited to finally do any activity involving his crazy ass family, that he just blindly does it.
This entire episode is about Yami not doing a hellscape when he witnesses cheating, and like...it is S5...it’s been a little while since anyone’s done a real good cheat on him, and he opened the door to darkness, and they got devoured by their own Tamagachi. It’s been a while.
And like the curse of Episode 13 was just a theory I had--but this particular Episode 13 is probably the most tame of all the 13′s (and yet, the most un-tame of this arc, which is a pretty chill arc, overall)
Yet...while this episode still fits in with their universe because the Kaiba’s are very proud so they can’t admit their duel disk has a flaw and therefore can’t forfeit the game, it kind of stretches the imagination a bit for the sake of the plot. Straight up we have a LOT of characters in this arc and they all just stood there and watched it happened.
It could have been also because this is like...televised...that no one wants to start throwing this little boy off the nearest blimp. I just wish that was addressed in the episode, other than “listen...Kaiba must allow this card to be played...or all his Duel Disks are lies.”
His Duel Disk almost caused the end of planet Earth a few weeks back, so I think it’s fine. I think this is a negligible problem to have when your disk shoots projectiles out of each end and has sharp folding edges in the shape of a blade--almost attempting to slice your face off every time you wave that thing around.
Yes, he’s trying to restore his reputation after the whole Dartz thing...but this is like...not that bad in the scale of things that have happened in the past several seasons. Maybe it’s just the last straw that broke the camels back here? One thing too far--’your disk played a broke card, Kaiba, I am pulling my investments and I refuse to go to your theme parks. I was here when you blew up that island. I was here when your company was literally bought out by the illluminati...but if that duel disk can’t play cards correctly--we’re done here.’ And TBH...that’s a very Yugioh mentality to have.
Like remember that time that Elon musk threw a brick at one of his new weird looking cars and the windshield cracked? But he was like “Oh...that was just a...listen the windshields don’t shatter, you saw nothing.” and still released the car anyway? Was kind of reminded of that.
Now...he didn’t actually go into the Dev room, we’ll go into how the hell he got this card, but first, a visit to the Kaiba Dev room.
OOOOOOooooooooh
That’s so bright!
It reminds me of how in the 90′s, the only real thing I knew to do on my computer was change the colors of the UI, so I just used the ugliest ass UI known to man for my family’s computers. I hope these computers have a mouse that leaves a tail behind and I hope that mouse is in the shape of a flying sparkling dragon.
Anyway, Duke speaks what’s on our minds:
Meanwhile, Pegasus, watching this happen over a glass of wine from inside his bathtub at Castle Pegasus, takes one very long sip while sinking into a pile of bubbles.
Seto at first is like “I literally own this tournament so thanks for losing? I don’t know why you threw it out into the trash but thanks?” But Zigfried pressured him so hard that everyone on Earth would judge his ass, and tried so hard to change the definition of what cheating even is, that Seto relented almost as if to shut Zigfried the hell up.
Zigfried explained that, technically, it’s still reads as a legal card on the disk and isn’t reaaally against the rules. Even though the rules say it’s against the rules--what are rules anyway?
Thankfully we have the King of “I dictate what the rules are AKA the rules of the universe, which I would show you, I just don’t feel like it right now, and I’m a little worried about opening that Pandora’s box, but I clearly know the rules of this card game, as stated on this Home Depot plaque that Seto gave me after I won the last tourney.”
Leon gets pretty upset about this--not so much screwing Seto Kaiba, but over the fact his brother stole his only chance at trying to beat Yugi Muto fair and square. So, trying to retain what little card honor he has left, Leon tries to self sabotage so everyone can just go the hell home.
OK so...do you think he put a floppy disk into the paper card? Like straight up how did he do that? Feel free to post your theories because like...how do you hack a paper card? Like do we even have a canon explanation of what these cards are or what they are made out of and how they theoretically work?
Anyway, now that they’ve spent a good portion of this episode discussing if this card should or should not be played, and the ethics and philosophy surrounding that, we find out that none of this matters because Zigfried was actually just stalling.
(He hacked the card so it had a virus like straight up how did he DO that without making a new card?)
Huh.
Y’all, what if I could just delete Google?
Can you imagine?
Like I know this is a kid’s show so it follows kid’s show logic and I will absolutely allow this ridiculous master plan and I will not question it, but think with me for a sec:
What if you could just delete Disney?
Damn. That’s some Y2K scare tactics propaganda right there. That’s some good YA dystopian fiction stuff.
Yo is Zigfried the good guy? He’s not, but if this were a YA novel he would be, right? Good on him.
I...do not know how the logic in Zigfried’s brain works, but if someone deleted all the files in my collaborators company and showed up at my front door and was like “I heard you were looking for a new collaborator?” I’d stick him face first into a blank paper card.
Which is, logically, the next step to Zigfried’s plan that no one has bothered to tell him yet. You just don’t mess with Pegasus, especially after all the stuff he went though with getting murdered by Mai, and Dartz showing up, he’d be so pissed right now. He might not be technically magical anymore--but it’s clear after last season that he’s still magical enough. This is a man who’s let out into the wild maybe a couple of scary cards--but hell knows how many are buried in his huge ass castle just waiting to do a murder.
This is just Zigfried hassling a hornet and the hornets nest is like...right there.
And so next episode we are going to...destroy the card? Hell, next episode might be entirely a card game and I might only have 2 caps.
Anyway, just letting you know that I typed this last night, and then had dreams that I got a Hime Haircut and hella loved it, woke up at 5:30 AM thinking about that haircut, and have since been just...
...I mean I shouldn’t do it...I cannot give myself unironic Von Schroeder hair...
...
...but what if it’s dope though?
(and here’s the link to read these from the beginning in chrono order from S1. Wish I categorized in seasons but alas I did not have that forsight back when I thought there were only 3 seasons of Yugioh total. I have since learned.)

You know what I wanna see with the Yu-Gi-Oh! Boys? Having to deal with their s/o putting themselves in danger! The boys throw themselves into the ocean, nearly get crushed to death, almost fall off a building, escape being burned alive or having their legs cut off. It's time for them to have the tables turned!
My my how the turn tables-
Warning ⚠️ this one contains abuse on Marik Ishtars part. If you are uncomfortable with it please skip it.
Yugi Muto:
You knew how cruel Domino high can be, with the constant bullying and corrupt teachers no day was ever easy. Especially for your boyfriend Yugi.
You didn’t know what it was, but a lot of people that it was okay for them to hurt him, and he would take cause he is too nice to say anything.
Well one day you had enough, and as this gang of bullies went to throw a punch at him you stepped in and took the blows for him.
When the dust settled and they were gone you were left bloodied and bruised on the floor. Yugi was quickly at your side call his friends to help take you to the nurse.
The poor guy was sobbing and trying his best to help you when his friends finally arrived. He has never been so heartbroken in his life and hated himself for not being able to help you.
Yugi doesn’t remember what happened after that, but he heard the next day that bullies were nowhere to be seen.
Yami/Atem:
A battle against PaniK was no easy feat considering he was to wipe people out the competition.
So watching you duel against his was hard for Yami, and it got even worse when the fire was spewing beside you.
He wanted nothing more to step in and take over the duel for you but he couldn’t. It got worse when with every second the flames licked at your legs the more burns you got.
By the time the duel was over you were covered in burn marks and no star chips. Yami called out your name as he rushed to you his friends not to far behind him.
He clutched your form as hot angry tear ls ran down his face. “I will not stand for this PaniK!” He glared up at the taller man.
“We will duel and you will give back Mai’s and (y/n) star chips!”
The battle didn’t last long as Yami wiped the floor with and took the star chips back, but to make sure PaniK would never do something like this again he sent him to the shadow realm.
He then went back to your still resting form and kissed your forehead gently pained that he let something like this ever happen to you.”
Joey Wheeler:
His fight with Marik was more devastating then he cared to admit. When he thought he had the upper had it was taken from him.
You watched from the sidelines and felt your heart wrench with every hit he took, and it got worse when Marik summoned Ra.
When Marik called his final attack you could take it anymore. So in an act of desperation you climbed up the stage and blocked the attack with your own body.
Joey and the group watch in horror as you took the blow from and Egyptian god. You clamped your jaw down hard and stood firm till the attack was over.
As you fell Joey caught and called out to you. Tears fell from his face as he tried to wake you up. It was announced that Joey was disqualified due to your interference, but he didn’t care he didn’t have the time.
He quickly picked you up and took you to the doctor. He kept trying wake up on the way there is voice frantic and pleading.
When the doctor came to the conclusion that it was a coma is when he sobbed hard. How could he let something like this happen to you? He should have stopped you!
He stayed with you all night and for most of Yugi’s duel, and when you finally woke up was he hugged you tightly “Don’t you EVER do that again!”
Tristan Taylor:
With as many fights as he has been in due gangs you would think that you would be use to seeing him hurt.
But you never were with hit took the more you worried about him and his health. So you tried to talk him out of it.
He promised you that he would stop fighting, but that was easier said then done. Especially since the gangs wouldn’t leave him alone.
You watched as he was caught in the middle of another fight, and you weren’t a fighter yourself so the best you could was yell at them to stop.
But that wasn’t enough. So as Tristan was nearly wobbling ready to take another hit you stepped in and acted as his shield.
The punch to your stomachs hurt but you stood firm. You weren’t gonna let the man you love be hurt anymore.
Luckily for you, you shocked the attacker and that was the opening Tristan needed to knock the mans lights out.
As the two of you hobbled home Tristan slung an arm around “it was brave of you...but please don’t do that again...”
Duke Devlin:
The fight with Nezbitt was anything but easy. He played to their weaknesses, and attacked the weaker link.
With that being said that left Duke to fend for himself and the other two, and that made you worried and upset for your boyfriend and friends.
You got so worried that you offered to take Tristans place after he fell, because they were desperate for more bodies Nezbitt accepted.
You blocked and helped your boyfriend and serenity to the best of your abilities, cause you to lose more life points.
Duke tried to yell at you stop, that he was willing to take the blow for the two of you but you weren’t having any of it.
So when Nezbitt aimed a huge attack at duke you knew what you had to do to keep him safe. You use you monster to block the attack knocking out your LP
All you remember is waking in an electronic cats body. You followed Tristan and found your friends and boyfriend.
After the events Duke held your face in his hands and kisses you roughly “please I can’t lose you... don’t do that again.”
Seto Kaiba:
You didn’t know if you believed Noah’s story, but you didn’t like how he was using Mokuba against Seto.
The battle between Seto and Noah was getting scary and you didn’t like the look of it. You were there with Yugi’s group of friends as they commentated on what was going on but you could hear it.
When Mokuba finally came to his sense you were so happy that you were in tears, but that was short lived as Noah Aimee his sights at the brothers
Fearing what was gonna happen, you ran past them and held your arms out taking the blow that was meant for them.
Seto and Mokuba watched in horror as you were turned to stone as Noah laughed in the background. “To think someone actually wanted to protect you Seto.”
That was the last straw for the young CEO. He sent Mokuba with Yugi and his friends as he glared at the deck master in front of him.
“Your games end her Noah.”
When you woke up Mokuba ran up to crying your name as he hugged you, and before you could ask Seto pulled you both into a protective hug. “Don’t do something so stupid again”
Bakura Ryou:
Bakura was never much of a fighter, and he never claimed to be. So when this tall guy tells the poor boy he wants to fight for stealing his girlfriend he is a bit shaken up.
He was gonna simply ignore it and move on with his day till he got a not in his locker stating that they had you.
He couldn’t allow anything to happen to you, so he went to the set location that the boy wanted to meet at.
Seeing you with someone else hold your hands behind you back made him furious. Glaring at the boy he tried to resolve the misunderstanding but it was in vain.
Though Bakura was agile and quick the boy still landed hits on him, and terrible hit they were.
You watch from afar as Bakura and the guy faught you wanted to stop it but didn’t know how. So you watched in tears.
When Bakura took a nasty hit and was on the ground was when you were able to break free from you captors and block anymore hits from landing on Bakura.
You took a few hits of your own but eventually the bully got board and left yelling at Bakura to leave his girl alone. All the two of you could do was hold each other till everything was okay again.
Yami Bakura:
Everyone knew this man cared for nothing but himself and his plan. So when they learned he an s/o they were all surprised.
They way everyone found out was not the normal way either. One of his duels got really physical when joey learned he would be sent to the shadow realm if he lost.
Yami Bakura isn’t use to fighting so when took blows from Joey they were hard blows. You tried to call to Joey to stop, but your voice didn’t reach.
So as a last resort you ran in between them and block Bakura from the punch. Unfortunately for you he hit you hard enough to send you to the ground.
At the sight of your fallen form Yami Bakura grew angry and hostile. The shadow grow angry as Yami Bakura came up to him and grabbed the collar of his shirt.
“You will pay for the crime you committed against (y/n)”
You don’t know how the battle ended but you woke up in the arms of Yami Bakura carrying back home.
“You will never pull a stunt like that ever again.” Was all he grumbled as he held to close all the way home.
Marik Ishtar:
Living with his father was never easy, especially when he got angry when Marik didn’t want to do as he was told.
Marik suffered many beating from his father, and you witnessed every one of them, and you hated it.
So one day Mariks father was yelling at him, and you noticed his hand raise to strike a blow at Marik you stepped in and took the hot for him.
Marik gasped at the sight of your form on the floor, your face red from the blow. However, your act of your courage gained you a beating of your own.
After you were take back to your room to recover from it. A litt but after Marik sneaked in to see you.
When he saw the state you were in he immediately began sobbing .
“Why would you do that! You know how harsh father can be!”
You didn’t say anything as you smiled at him. Marik didn’t like that response but stayed at your side till you were better once again.
Yami Marik:
The battle between Yami Marik and the Pharaoh was coming to a close, and you were terrified of the outcome. You didn’t want to lose the man you loved.
So out of act of desperation you instered yourself in to the duel and used your life points to power Ra.
Most of you was in the shadow realm as you watched Marik best the Pharaoh and claim his victory. So in turn you were very weak and ended up passing out before you could see the aftermath
You don’t know how long you were out, but when you woke up again you were laying down on a very comfortable bed with Yami Marik right beside you.
You heard shuffling as Marik grip around you tightend slightly. “You have served me well doll, but don’t ever do that again or I will leave you there”
You nodded knowing he only said those words out of worry. You snuggled up to him and fell back asleep dreaming of the rest your lives together.

The Yugioh Arcs Ranked
I’m going to rank all the main arcs of the original Yugioh anime with the exception of season zero and Capsule Monsters, because I haven’t seen those. This is just my own personal opinion, it’s not objective in any way. In fact, from looking at other people’s lists, I think I might piss a few people off with how I ranked these. Remember, this is just my opinion. Also, disclaimer, I did watch this show in dub. While from what I’ve seen of the sub is infinitely better, I did get into the show and I do still think it is a good show in dub. Still, some of the story details might be slightly different for that reason. (Going forward with the spin-offs, I am watching sub.)
7 Dungeon Dice Monsters
This arc served one purpose and one purpose alone: to introduce Duke Devlin/Ryuji Otogi and establish him as a friend of the main group before he comes back in Battle City to… do basically nothing? Personally, I barely saw the purpose in Tristan/Honda and Anzu/Tea so introducing yet another cheerleader for Yugi who doesn’t do much on his own confuses me. Ryuji admittedly has more character than Honda and Anzu and the stuff with the Dungeon Dice Monsters game itself is kind of cool but the other arcs had much more to them so this arc is at the bottom just by default.
6 Noah’s Saga (Or Virtual World)
Onto the first filler arc. There are three arcs of this show that don’t accomplish anything for the overall story and this is one of them. If you don’t know, these arcs aren’t even from the manga. In Japan, Yugioh was based on a then ongoing manga so the filler arcs were created to give the manga writer time to finish the manga so the anime could adapt it. So while I understand the reasoning behind this, I think placing Noah’s Saga in the middle of Battle City was a pretty bad idea in my opinion, as it's nothing but a distraction that destroys the flow of the story and goes on for way too long. It’s not bad though. The deck master gimmick is fun and adds an interesting twist to the duels. It was also interesting learning more about the Kaiba family and especially Seto’s backstory. Overall however, this arc drags in parts and while Noah is still a good villain objectively, he's a complete brat and I personally find that annoying. Still, it was nice seeing Mokuba turn Noah to the heroes’ side through sheer goodness alone.
5 Grand Tournament (Or KC Grand Prix)
Another filler arc. I’m putting this one over Noah’s arc because while that one had the better individual moments and did more for the characters, this arc didn’t overstay its welcome like that one did. It also genuinely shocked me by having Kaiba actually defeat the main villain rather than going the stereotypical way and having Yugi beat him. That’s worth a few points in my book. (It was also just a really good duel.) I also liked Joey’s/Jonouchi’s duel with Yugi’s grandfather, his former mentor. It was annoying how he didn’t recognize him but it was still a nice way to show how far Jonouchi has come since the start of the series. Overall, this arc is just fine. I’d probably skip it if I ever rewatched the series but it’s not without its merit.
4 Duelist Kingdom
Okay, this is the point where I’m probably gonna piss people off. Don’t get me wrong, I still like Duelist Kingdom. It’s a really good start to the show, gradually establishing the characters and the game of Duel Monsters in a really natural way. It also includes some of my favourite duels in the series: Kaiba and Yugi’s duel on the tower, and Kaiba and Yugi’s duels with Pegasus. Speaking of Pegasus, he’s a great villain. He is made out to be undefeatable and actually lives up to that reputation due to the powers of the Millenium Eye. Yugi and the Pharaoh have to repeatedly switch minds in order to beat him, which was really interesting to see. However… This is not the best arc of the show. A lot of the duels before the finals aren’t all that interesting and go on for way too long. They’re not bad duels per say, just uninteresting and padded. When I first started watching this show, I was mostly using it as background while I wrote. The filler duels just didn’t grab my attention and I have no interest in revisiting them. The parts that made me look up from my writing were anything with Kaiba (who I latched onto very early for personal, coping reasons), the times Bakura went into evil mode, and pretty much everything from Yugi and Kaiba’s duel on the tower and onward. I knew about Kaiba attempting suicide but what I didn’t know was that the Pharaoh nearly went through with killing him and had to be stopped by Yugi. That was the moment where I realized this show was more than just “a dumb kids’ show” and was willing to go dark places, despite how much the 4Kids dub wanted to hide that. It was the moment where I actually became interested in the show. So yes, this is a good arc, but later arcs in my opinion topped it.
3 Waking the Dragons
Yes, I put a filler arc over the classic season one. Honestly though, this season was so good I didn’t even know it was a filler arc until I did my research. Sure, it moved the focus away from the Millennium Items but the character development for Mai, Yugi, and the Pharaoh felt so genuine and was really interesting. This season basically forced me to see the differences between Yugi and the Pharaoh by separating them for quite a bit of the season, which was another thing that really surprised me. I was used to this show being darker at this point. However, I never expected them to actually kill the main character, even if it was obviously just temporary. That’s a pretty ballsy move. I grew to really like the Pharaoh and Yugi this season. And Mai’s fall to villainy and the exploration of her trauma from Battle City was very interesting and tragic. This show writes villains very well and this season is a great example of that. I really like stories where the villains’ motivation is to destroy the world due to their hatred of humanity/the world. Valon, Allister, and Raphael all have genuinely sad backstories that perfectly explain why they adopted this viewpoint. Dartz not so much. However, he is still a great villain. He has such a presence and the way he manipulated all these people and even twisted their minds with the Orichalcos was delightfully twisted. However, his ‘redemption’ at the end was really out of nowhere and unnecessary and Pegasus’s involvement in this season was… weird to say the least. Overall, however, I really like this arc. I understand the backlash, since this is a filler arc and a really long one at that, but I personally really enjoyed it.
2 Dawn of the Duel
Yeah, the final arc isn’t the best one. Time travel stories really don’t appeal to me personally. However, in situations where the thing in question was already bonkers as hell before introducing time travel I’m more willing to let it slide and get into the silliness of the time travel idea rather than picking it apart. A lot of its logic makes no sense if you think about it even a little but seeing the conclusion to all these long running arcs was really satisfying. Bakura is also a great villain. I was wondering what they were going to do with him all series so for him to finally have the spotlight as the main villain and to learn that he actually had a sympathetic backstory was really cool to see. This is the arc with the least actual dueling so I can see why people who watch this show for the duels would be disappointed. However, I watched the show for the lore and the characters, which were the focus of this arc and personally, I loved seeing the ancient real life version of Duel Monsters. The battles felt more intense due to them being real. Also, I will admit that the final scene where they all say goodbye to Atem got tears out of me, which I didn’t think this show would ever do.
1 Battle City (Both parts, splitting it was stupid)
Okay, this is the season that made me a fan. It’s the point where I started actively blogging about it and even analyzing it a bit. First of all, this arc had, in my opinion, the best villain in the series: Marik. His redemption arc was the only one in the show that was justified or made any goddamn sense for that matter (besides Kaiba but I don’t really count him as a villain). Marik’s backstory did a good job making him sympathetic without excusing his terrible actions. Even before his darker side took over, Marik was a really good villain, using his millennium item to mind control and kind of terrorize his minions all while hiding in the shadows so when the heroes actually see him, they don't even realize it's him. Granted the story didn't do much with that plot point but it was still cool. Also, I didn’t think this show would actually go as far as to have the villain mind control Yugi’s friends and even force Yugi to duel one of them to the death. That genuinely surprised me, as did the Yami Marik twist. This arc also added a lot to the lore, which was the aspect of Duelist Kingdom that I was most interested in and was barely touched on in that arc. In Battle City however, we got the Egpytian God Cards, two more Millenium Items, the history of the Tomb Keepers, all of which were really interesting. This arc also has a lot of the best duels in the series, which I can try and list:
-Kaiba vs Ishizu (I hate the way destiny is written in this series, but Kaiba changing his destiny was the most badass thing ever. Even I can’t deny that.)
-The best Yugi vs Kaiba battle (Tied with their Duelist Kingdom one honestly, those are both great but this one had two god cards clash. I can’t help but love it.)
-Jonouchi vs Marik (The sub gave me chills and even the dub made my heart skip a beat and think they were actually going to break anime rules and let Jonouchi win. Also, the dub gave us the amazing “according to my math, six is higher than two” line, which I unironically love.)
-Yugi vs Marik (I mean come on. It’s the final battle and seeing Marik regain control and overcome his dark side was great.)
Anyways, that was my personal ranking. I think I’m generally in agreement with the fandom consensus except I feel Duelist Kingdom is a little overrated and Waking the Dragons is underrated. I will do this with GX when I finish it though I admit I have been really on and off about watching that show due to real life reasons.

How to Play as Yugi Muto in DnD 5e
A long time ago, I made a build for the Dark Magician (I’ll leave a link [here].) At the time, I’d considered trying to make a build for Yugi, but since Yugi lacks any real powers of his own, there wasn’t really enough to go off of. But with new UA spells that prioritize summoning and new UA subclasses, the time has finally come to give Yugi his proper build. For this build, we are considering Yugi and the Pharaoh to be one character. We will also be treating this build as though Yugi has the Dark Magician as his Deck Master, a special feature used in some side content and video games where the Deck Master actually assists their duelist. So Yugi’s spell list will merge two primary conditions: summoning creatures to fight on his behalf, and spell effects of cards in Yugi’s deck, including one-off cards and less famous cards he’s used to fill out his Wizard Spellbook.
Yugi is an anime character. In the past, my general rule for anime characters is to make them Variant Humans. This is primarily because Anime Characters are stronger than normal humans and often have magical powers that make them not quite human. I’ll be using the Variant Human option, however Kalashtar also works due to Yugi’s split minds and resistance to psychic mind games. Halflings aren’t my favorite race to play, but Yugi is abnormally short, and the Pharaoh is uncannily lucky, so it can definitely work for their build. As a Variant Human, we’ll pick up the Lucky feat and give ourselves +1 INT and +1 DEX.
The Pharaoh is willing to kill Kaiba to win a children’s card game. Yugi is not. They average out to Neutral Good.
The Pharaoh was the King of Egypt. Obvious Noble Background is obvious.
Heart of the Cards
WIZARD Order of Scribes. This ended up being a perfect storm. Firstly, the new UA batch of summoning spells primarily landed under the Wizard umbrella. So, this gives Yugi a nice variety of summoning options. But it gets even better once you look at your subclass abilities. The Wizardly quill is about the only thing that doesn’t really fit for Yugi, but everything else will. Awakened Spellbook grants the pages Yugi summons from a level of sentience. In Yugioh the cards house duel monster spirits, and Yugi’s grandfather taught him to value the Heart of the Cards, the very idea that Yugi’s deck is a sentient thing. This subclass technically talks about a bound book, but Yugi’s still channeling his magic and spells through his cards, so I’d consider Yugi’s deck a reflavor of his spellbook, thus he’s able to use it as his spellcasting focus. Yugi’s able to alter the damage type of a spell he casts. You could flavor this as classic season 1 Yugioh where nobody played by the rules, or as Yugi pulling a card out of his deck that he’ll never use in any other duel, which tended to be a common deus ex machina for him. Master Scrivener can allow Yugi to copy a card onto a scroll and pull it out of his butt whenever he wants. a fun cheeky way to mock his plot armor. It also casts at 1 level higher, meaning Yugi is one again breaking the rules because he’s the King of Games. Manifest Mind is where the Deck Master concept becomes more clear, as you can create a tiny spectral form of the Dark Magician fighting beside you, and really lets you fully embrace the partnership between Yugi and the Dark Magician in combat. Since this feature does specify using a tiny specral creature, Kuriboh is another good Deck Master monster for Yugi. Finally, One with the Word allows Yugi to swap places with the Dark Magician to avoid one or both of them from being killed. Yugi can also destroy some of the cards in his collection to bring him back to life if Dark Magician is on the field and his spellbook has the resources. This also motivates Yugi to want to collect as many cards/spells as he can, even if he doesn’t prepare them all or use them in his deck. If you really want to play up the roleplay aspect of this build and commit to the gimmick of playing as Yami, you could write spells on sheets of paper and treat them like an actual deck of cards. It’s really just for roleplaying purposes, and could make the game needlessly challenging, but it could also be a fun challenge to hope you draw the spell you need right when you need it. This could be as vague as just having a card that says “3rd level spell”, or as specific as having say as many copies of a specific spell as you have spell slots to cast it. As it’s just flavoring and roleplaying mostly, come up with your own fun ways to incorporate the deck aspect into a mechanic for gameplay and tell me your ideas. I’ll bet there’s many fun ways to make this character work in an inetersting way.

As a Wizard, our most important stat is going to be Intelligence for casting. Our Manifest Mind feature gives our Dark Magician our AC, so we’ll want a high Dexterity modifier to improve our Armor Class. Yugi is pretty hard to fool, so that’ll give us a good Wisdom score. Yugi is pretty good at destiny speeches and turning enemies into allies. We’ll give him a pretty decent Charisma score so he can persuade people to adopt his philosophies, or send people running into the shadow realm with his Intimidation. Our build prioritizes amassing strong minions between us and enemies, so we can neglect our Constitution a bit. That leaves our Strength stat to be ignored. Lifting all those small thin pieces of paper doesn’t exactly get Yugi ripped.

Manifest Mind. Your spellbook projects a tiny spectral construct. Its HP is your INT + your Wizard Level and it uses your AC and saving throw die. It has darkvision at a range of 60 feet, sheds dim light at a range of 10 feet, and can pass through solid objects.
Master Scrivener. Copy a 1st or 2nd level spell from your spellbook onto a scroll. Use the scroll any time, and the spell is cast as being one level higher.
One With the Word. When you would die while Manifest Mind is active, purge spells from your spellbook whose level adds to 3d6. They can only be restored with a Wish, and are otherwise lost to you.
Position of Privilege. You belong in high society. People bend over backwards to accommodate you, and you can get an audience with other nobility.
Signature Spells. cast Summon Fey Spirit and Summon Undead Spirit once without using a spell slot.
Spell Mastery. Cast Mage Armor and Hold Person without spell slots.
Wizardly Quill. Less time and money copying spells into your spellbook.
A major downside to this build is that all of his summoning spells require a gold cost, but if you’re fortunate, your DM will be generous enough with the gold to support the costs of this build. Technically, this build really could work for any duelist, and there’s plenty of other yugioh cards that could translate to DnD spells, but we were focused on Yugi’s canon spell and trap cards. We’re also extremely reliant on summoning, so if Yugi can’t summon, he’s going to have a bad time, and the build won’t be so useful.

The Step for Beginning -Time Traveling Duelist
If someone were to tell Yuma a few months ago he would wake up and suddenly find himself in the past, Yuma would have laughed at them before go check with Astral to make sure that never happen. Unfortunately no one told Yuma about this whole time jumping thing, so Yuma never got the chance to ask Astral to use Numeron Code to stop him from time jumping. And here Yuma was, stuck in the early 2000 and had absolutely no idea how to get back to his time.
Now, in the spirit of not screwing with the time line, Yuma had been trying his best to stay out of any events that would be well documented. Which was to say, he'd been avoiding duel tournament like the plague. He still loved dueling, he even got a new deck that would fit with the current rules, but if some one from the future were to connect Yuma Miyoshi and Yuma Tsukumo.... well, Yuma doubted anything good would happen.
However, there were times when Yuma odd jobs weren't enough to cover his living bills and Yuma had to resorted to dueling to earn money. Not underground dueling, Yuma heard enough about how brutal those where from Shark, just smaller local tournament that won't draw the attentions from the press.
Yuma relished those time. Even if he couldn't use his Xyz deck, his new friends work just as well. The Face Knights weren't his first choice of architypes, but the Onomatopoeia and Mom's Synchro weren't a thing yet so Yuma had to looked for some inspiration from Master Rokujuro.
" [Arcana Knight Joker] direct attack, Carreau Slash!" Yuma commanded and enjoy the nostalgic feeling of seeing lifepoints drop to zero from the fusion monster's attack, except for this time he wasn't on the receiving end. It was a shame that Yuma could duel for a bit longer, that had got to be one of the most intense match Yuma had recently.
"You were great, that was one of the best duel I've had in a while. " He told his opponent as he help the other boy up.
"Yeah, that was fun." The boy replied. "We're definitely having rematch and next time I won't lose."
" You're on!"
Yuma might have forgotten to asked for the boy's name and phone number among the excitement. By the time he got out of the stadium the boy was no where to be found.
" At least my wallet is full." Yuma muttered in disappointment, sure the new booster box that came as a prize was cool but he had really wanted that rematch.
" You duelled well." Someone suddenly said causing Yuma to jump. " Ready for another one?"
A quick turn around didn't reveal much to him, the person who spoke had their hood up that covered most of his face in the shadow. They did have a very new and expensive duel disk ready to go. Laughing nervously, Yuma slowly inched away. "No thanks. It's getting late and I should get home."
"What a shame," The stranger said as Yuma walked away. "I was hoping to see an Xyz monster with my own eyes, especially such a unique monster like Utopic Future."
That stopped Yuma dead in his track. "How did you know that?"
"Win and I'll tell you."
" And if I lose?" Yuma asked hesitantly.
" You'll do me a favour, one small favour."
Fair enough, Yuma wasn't one to back down from a challenge and the guy might know something about him being here. He followed the stranger to a desolated alley, switching out his duel disk for his D-pad as they walk and loaded in his original deck. He got a feeling he'll need to bring his A - game for this duel.
" Since you challenged me, I get the first turn." Yuma declared.
The stranger only smile. "Fine by me, I hope you're ready."
" I'm always ready, Kattobingu!" Yuma draw, signalling the beginning of his duel. "And I'll start with [Utopic Onomatopoeia] and with its effect [Gogogo Golem] gets to enter the field. Next, I overlay the level 4 [Utopic Onomatopoeia] with the level 4 [Gogogo Golem] to form the overlay network. Round'em up [Gagaga Cowboy]"
The gun wielding warrior materialized on his field kneeling, there were two ball of lights orbiting around him. Since he couldn't attack on the first turn Yuma put [Gagaga Cowboy] in defense, but that doesn't mean he couldn't do any damage. " I detach an overlay units from [Gagaga Cowboy] to inflict 800 damage to your lifepoints."
[Gagaga Cowboy] shot at his opponent, who winced but didn't stumbled.
"[Gagaga Cowboy]," The stranger mused. " The last time I saw an Xyz monster it was in much more dire circumstances. I'm glad that I was able to see them again in my lifetime."
Yuma's eyes widen at that statement. "Are you...?"
" A time traveler? Well, you have to win to find that out." The stranger teased.
" Oh, I will." Yuma declared.
He didn't.
It was a very long back and forth with Yuma barely survived through a few turns with the use of his Monsters's effect alongside with getting his devastating attacks negated by the stranger's spells and traps. Shadows rises and Chaos roared in answered. The stranger teared down Yuma forces as hard as he struck down theirs. He managed shift the favour to his side when he summoned [Number F0: Utopic Future] which was basically indestructible since his opponent didn't have a Number card. Yuma was so close to victory when the stranger, through the combination of [Solemn Wishes] and [Skill Drain], used his [ Silent Magician] to destroyed [Number F0: Utopic Future] and wiped out the rest of Yuma's life points.
Laying onto the payment ground, Yuma can't help but laugh. Despite all of that Yuma had enjoyed the duel, it was fun.
"So what's the favour you want me to do?" Yuma asked as he slowly sat up.
"Join Duel Academy." The stranger said, pulling down his hood.
"Wait, you're...."
"Here, this will help you on your adventure," Yugi Mutou gave him a card before walking away. " Good luck."
"Wait!"
But he was gone before Yuma could move.
