Every day I am in complete and utter awe at how deeply ingrained into transformers as a franchise robotfucking is. G1 had two different episodes about cybertronian x human pairings. At least one dude on the beast wars animation team wanted to fuck dinobot enough to lovingly render him posing with his spike out, blackarachnia's design was based off a stripper, and they wrote rattrap as a shameless pervert. RiD 2001 had Sideburn and his only personality trait was being horny all the fucking time. TFA Blackarachnia was somehow hornier than the original and it felt like Some Gay Shit happened about every 20 minutes in that show. The entire team for TFP agreed knockout was the sexiest robot they'd ever fucking seen and decided to let him try to seduce half the cast, and then casually canonize the word "interfacing" as slang for sex, AND THEN steve blum decided to play starscream like its the porn parody of the actual show. Half of rescue bots feels like slow burn human x cybertronian gay fanfic. IDW not only knows you want to fuck those robots but actively encourages you to fuck those robots because Alex Milne keeps dropping softcore robot porn zines at cons. I haven't finished earthspark but I know that dad wanted bumblebee's dick like crazy and the only reason he hasn't pursued it is because he's happily married.
Literally the only tf show I've seen that ISNT that horny is cyberverse, and that show is still ASTOUNDINGLY gay.
I'll be reading valveplug fics, and any and all shame I would usually feel at sexualizing cartoon robots is evaporated when i remember that a nonzero amount of people working for hasbro are sexualizing the robots too. They're hot by design, your honor.
#maccadam#transformers#valveplug#if you told me two years ago that transformers as a franchise was as chill woth the robotfuckers as it is i would not have believed you.

Wicked Gelphie fans, i need you guys so badly to know how well Elphaba/Glinda are "good timeline"d "history doesnt repeat, it rhymes"-ified by Dorothy/Princess Ozma in Baum's original Oz book series. like. Dorothy/Ozma get everything; theyre the sweet, intimate friends-to-"??? are they a couple?"-ified political power-sapphic-duo that Gelphie would have wanted to be. like??
if you merge canons, fam... Wicked-Glinda must be struggling, seeing Dorothy/Ozma be everything she and Elphaba could have been.... omfg... the angst potential, the envy of watching a couple of sapphic childhood sweethearts get everything they were denied, fulfill Glinda and Elphie's dreams, and seemingly so easily too...
(also!! they even CAN look like a kid-Glinda and kid-Elphaba! there's canon to justify that kind of appearance paralleling!!)
faq below if you want more context
edit, psa: i did read these books from like.. the ages of 10 to like 14 or so, maybe as young as 8? idk, i dont remember. anyway. its been a decade since i picked them back up. and i didnt think this would gain as much traction as it has been after 100+ notes in less than 24 hours. uh. so. take my chronic memory loss-addled summarization with a grain of salt?? like? i just wrote this post so i didnt have to re-vent (agAIN) to my friends about how much i fucking love Dorothy/Ozma, period, much less in parallel to Gelphie. so. enjoy, carry on, and whatnot lmao
1️⃣: there's Oz books? plural???
yes, Baum wrote 14 books about Oz, actually. also, he wrote them under the appointment of "the royal historian of Oz" instead of "author", so there's other "official" Oz books by other "royal historians of Oz"
Baum wrote so much bc (he needed money, yes, but also:) kids would send him questions in fan-mail, and he would proceed to answer them via new novels. so he never planned to make more Oz books, he just (wasnt good with money and also) was routinely inspired by the kids who wrote to him and would write the stuff they wanted to learn about Oz and whatnot
2️⃣: does Dorothy go back to Oz? wasn't it all a dream for her??
yeah, Dorothy returns to Oz a lot in the books, she eventually even moves to live there permanently. bc, in the book series, it's a real place
only in the 1939 film was Oz ever a dream
3️⃣: how does Dorothy look like Glinda OR Elphaba?? what are you talking about?
okay so, "The Wizard of Oz" has an illustrator, W. W. Denslow. in the book, Dorothy is confirmed to be wearing a blue-white gingham dress (she changes outfits tho, she doesnt always wear the same dress all 14 books like she's some cartoon character); but im pretty sure her hair was all Denslow(? i could be remembering wrong. p sure im not tho??). this is what the 1939 movie based her appearance off of. so i can see why youd go "she doesnt look like Glinda or Elphaba"

BUT Denslow and Baum started feuding. so for the rest of the Oz books that Baum wrote, he had a different illustrator by the name of John R. Neil
and Neil decided to give Dorothy for every one of the books he illustrated (so, 13 of Baum's books to Denslow's 1 book of Baum's) a cute lil blonde bob, making her look like what i assume blonde-Glinda looked like as a child. i think she'd approve lol

so!! Dorothy very much looks like a trendy little Glinda, with her cute blonde bob, her fashionable drop-waist dress, and bows for most of the Baum series, actually!
(also, Neil had a preference for dressing Dorothy in this red and polka-dot number, but, again, she does wear other outfits)
(lmao also look at Tin-Man and Scarecrow with blonde-Dorothy, they look like her two gay dads encouraging her to just go be herself at school?? i love them)
(also, if you see "Eloise At The Plaza"-energy in this Dorothy design, im right there with you lol)
4️⃣: who is Ozma??
she's the Princess of Oz. she eventually appears in the second book of the series. she rules Oz after the Wizard
she's actually a really interesting transwoman allegory too. (spoilers for a book from the early 1900s?) she was born a little girl named Ozma, but has a spell put on her as a baby to be genderbent and was socially raised as a little boy under a different name, and she later realizes who she truly is: a girl. she finds the transformation scary, as she returns to her girl-form she always truly was, but she feels better and more herself now that she is Ozma again. i dont think L. Frank Baum intentionally wrote her to be a trans allegory, but you can very obviously see why our trans elders fucking LOVED Ozma back in the early 1900s
also, she has a similar "sir, you fucked up" relationship with the Wizard as Elphaba*. and, also like Elphaba, Ozma politically tries to make things in Oz better (just.. unlike Elphaba, Ozma has the power and support to do just that p much asap)
* (edit for contextual clarification on how the Wizard fucked up: the Wizard fucked up with Ozma because he is ultimately and p directly the reason why she was genderbent/hidden. he deposed of her family and sent her away. Baum decided later on to backtrack a little bit on this(?) because he wanted to bring back the Wizard and, in order for Baum to do that, has to try to not make him SO terribly horrible??? so like. Ozma does end up forgiving him and tolerates him amd he's nicer, later on, within the books. but i doubt any modern adaptation of the books would follow that, personally. even as a kid, i went "bullshit" and headcanoned that Ozma fucking hated the guy and, at best, MAYBE tolerated him for Dorothy, but overall did not like him for justifiable reasons! i think the direction society seems to have taken the Wizard is interesting, and i wouldnt be surprised if there was at least one future adaptation that made him The Bad Guy in a very Rumplestiltskin in the Once Upon A Time TV show kind of way. but like. in the books, they do END UP getting along. i just forever disagree with Baum on that lol i think the Wizard fucked up, and in book 2 of the series (the one where Ozma is, y'know, introduced), it is obvious the Wizard FUCKED UP. but yeah. also, Ozma does get her dad back. her mom was kind of never in the picture to begin with, specifically in a Ponyo's Mom kind of way, like, she made Oz and then left it for her husband and kid to rule, so. yeah. im getting off track. my point is the Wizard did a full-on coup on her family and then banished her and genderbent her so no one would recognize that she had claim to the throne he was sitting on!! he fucked up! so, like, i personally hc that Elphaba founded the "i hate the Wizard" club to which everyone slowly joined, like Fieyro and etc, and Ozma is their youngest member. the Wizard did both Elphie and Ozma so dirty, omfg)
it also should be mentioned, Ozma in NBC's "Emerald City" was casted as Black (her actress being Jordan Loughran). so, though Ozma does not have green skin (but also? neither did the Wicked Witch of the West in the books, she wasn't green there. that was a 1939 film decision to make her green. so! Ozma could be green!! why not!), but she does have Black features to theoretically remind Glinda of Cynthia Eviro's Elphaba when you consider that casting. or, if you prefer a Jewish!Elphaba casting, a'la Idina Menzel's Elphaba, i think Ozma's book design works well to interpretively parallel those features too. or both, if you like the sound of a Black-Jewish Elphaba and Ozma paralleling lol
(edit, because i thought i mentioned this but? no?? i didnt?? i must have misclicked or something to have deleted the paragraph. im so sorry, here you go:) also, when Ozma was a boy, she was basically enslaved to her jailor of a caretaker. which one could interpret as "oh, a Cinderella story!", sure. but, with a Black Ozma, it does read as an intergenerational grief-formed power-fantasy that is both empowering and poignant for Ozma to have ran away from her enslavement and gone on to become a princess afterwards. to any Black folks who may be going "is this going to trigger me?" about Ozma having been a child-slave, i remind you that Baum wrote this intentionally for children, so, no, the books do not sit in the trauma and horror of enslavement, but whether or not it would trigger you yourself is up to your discretion. i will say, Baum did NOT write the American Girls' Addy of his time (context: a children's book about a child-slave that does go into the horrors, some, though in a kid-friendly way) or Louis Sachar's Holes (i asssume i dont have explain Holes since its movie was such a hit), i remember it as even more kid-friendly than either of those also-children's books, so i would assume most people would be fine? but you are responsible for your own mental well-being, i urge you to confirm if it is fine for yourself however you need to do that. but, yes, you can use this backstory as further evidence for your Ozma being Black, of course! you can have Ozma be Black regardless, but if you want this as further evidence, go ahead! and also, it does parallel Ozma to Elphaba in the sense that Elphaba's family mistreats Elphaba! (i will, regardless of if you prefer a Jewish and/or Black Elphaba, add that doing so is also a nice "fuck you" to Baum in how, being a white man of the late 1800s and early 1900s, did end up throwing in racist and/or antisemitic caricatures here and there within his 14 books, unfortunately. i, an Indigenous American, remember as a child still immensely enjoying Oz despite Baum being racist towards Native Americans. if youre curious on the egregious level of it all and if the story could still be enjoyable, id say it's in the realm of Peter Pan, Willy Wonka, and Matilda of "wow. that is shitty. im going to pretend this thing i love is good instead via cognitive dissonance")
regardless, in John R Neil's illustrations, Ozma does have black hair, so that too coincides with modern understandings of Elphaba

(there is also her appearance in Disney's "Return to Oz", performed by Emma Ridley, where she is blonde. but, though i love that spooky movie, that's neither here nor there. as far as im aware, only in that movie has Ozma not had black hair)
anyway, she rules Oz; and by book 3, becomes really close friends with Dorothy. they're not a canon couple, not anymore than Gelphie is, but they are such close and affectionate friends that they are so easy to ship as childhood sweethearts (so, no, there is no moment of 🎶loathing🎶, but i find that sweetness makes them an angstier parallel for Glinda to watch over, personally lol)
like here's some illustrations from the books of them just being two "gal pals". no wonder our queer elders shipped them lmao and this isn't even all of their illustrations together, this is just the first spurts that google shot out at me lmao

also??? this is them with book-Glinda. not only do they look absolutely darling, also, yes, Dorothy becomes a princess, because Ozma said so. they co-rule Oz together. they are just too sweet, fam, i love these two little childhood sweethearts, i choose to see Dorothy's princess-ship as the same as two kids promising to marry one another when they grow up. this is so cute

and can you imagine Wicked-Glinda? looking down at these two, seeing what could have between herself and Elphaba had things turned out different??? im making myself sad
(also "Book of Glinda" is so wild. both in terms of "...Baum, how do you not see this as queer?" like with one example being like "Baum, you put that Glinda has 100s of single women at her beck and call in her palace, this is so easy to see as sapphic, sir"... and then, over here, we have John R Neil repeatedly reading "gave a platonic, innocent kiss" and going "okay, so, uh, making out? i dont do platonic kissing" lmao anYWAAAAYYYY, THAT'S NOT RELEVANT HERE)
🌟5️⃣ bonus:
so, you might have a few follow-up questions. like, what is "Elphaba" like in the books? what does she look like?
well, she's really only in the first book. she's one-note, evil, dies. she's not green-skinned, and she isn't given any sort of name. she is only called "the Wicked Witch of the West", that's it, she is not Elphaba
however, i will mention the Wicked Witch of the West, in the books, is a fashion disaster and i want to see her look used as evidence that "yes, goth-Elphaba and dark-academia-Elphaba are 10/10, but also?? kitschy grandma-core knitwear-Elphaba × her fashionably Barbie pink girlfriend". i'd love to see art of that. i'm just saying

also?? this isn't related to her at all but guess what
Scarecrow/Tin-Man was like THE ship for our queer elders. they are so emotionally intimate, they live together, it's great, look at these pictures of them being absolute bros (can you see why they were shipped so hard)

i bring this up, bc you could argue Fieyro/Boq if you merge canons to make your own narrative and whatnot. guess Fieryo and Boq kinda had their own mirrored 🎶loathing🎶 period under that framing lmao
or, if you hate Boq, youll probably love the Tin-Man's angsty "ship of Theseus"-like backstory as the once-Nick Chopper(: his human name, pre-tin-ification) that is in the books
so! enjoy that knowledge!! theyre super cute in the books, i love them. again, not a canon ship, but still beloved by our elder queers, just like Ozma and Dorothy
i hope it makes even more sense now why our queer elders used the phrase "Are you a friend of Dorothy?" as code to see if someone else was queer, not even taking into account the 1939 movie or Judy Garland's relationship with the queer community
anyway, albeit this is all the basics generalized, that should be everything
but yeah!! Ozma and Dorothy reminding Glinda of what could have been, of what she lost, being the sweeter "next generation" version of Gelphie?? tugs so hard at my heartstrings
but yeah, do whatever you want with Gelphie, Fieryo, and Part 2. im just saying. the angst potential of being envious and living vicariously through someone and seeing other people get the happy ending you were denied?? is right there lol
(edit: this awesome video by Kaz Rowe JUST came out if you want to hear more about the Oz book series, its queerness, its author, its GLARING PROBLEMS including but not limited to instances of racism, and so on and so forth. Kaz Rowe is a fantastic video-essayist, so i hope you watch the video and enjoy their hard-polished craftsmanship)

I love your Thundercracker design so much. I've always been a big fan of the guy. What's your opinion of him if you don’t mind me asking?
I like him! he’s more difficult for me to draw because of his helm design but he completes the trio and I like that he’s here. just a solid, dependable, responsible older brother type who’s also kinda conservative.
LET ME EXPLAIN
thundercracker has morals, but they’re like “don’t do genocide” type morals, he only gets brownie points for having them because he’s with the decepticons, and even then he’ll like justify to himself why it’s probably fine most of the time because the movement he’s a part of tells him it’s fine.
it’s giving: good boy drafted into war and wants to believe it was meaningful but becomes disillusioned with his political party later in life.
his compassion and willingness to help someone in trouble extends to his inner circle and those directly in his line of sight, otherwise he puts his head down and just wants to be left alone, which is honestly a mood.
he’s also a little bit racist, based on his original toy description

all in all I think he’s neat! I don’t think ive encountered a take on thundercracker I didnt like. I like that he’s a bit of a brute in the original cartoons. I like that he’s got a dog and writes screenplays that arent very good in idw. i like that him and skywarp got to take a bath together in dreamwave, but in seperate oil vats five feet apart because they’re not gay (but also they’re giant robots so five feet is still close enough to touch shoulders because they’re still kinda gay <3). and I like that fan fics like to write him as really fed up with starscream but still cant help but care because they’re trine. and if any media has the three of them standing next to each other I will point and shout (until they inevitably start shooting each other because boys will be boys and we cant have nice things in canon ever!)
in summery, starscream and skywarp are my blorbos. thundercracker isnt a blorbo, because he’s my dad.
Or maybe he’s me.

Homophobic client and other shit that sucks or doesn’t make sense.

This sinner’s situation is supposed to force Stolas to reflect on his own, which would have worked if the writers didn’t spend so much time portraying this woman as unreasonable, nasty and petty.
Also it’s just confusing…
This woman doesn’t even know for certain that her husband was cheating on her when they were together, giving the husband some plausible deniability. (Because god forbid gay men do anything wrong. )

In contrast, we do know that Stolas was cheating on Stella because he was still married to her at the time.
In season 2, the writers scrambled to justify this, by making Stella an insufferable dumb bitch with no redeeming qualities. So i don’t know what I meant to take away from this show, except women are unreasonable, nasty and petty.
With Stella, you cannot deny the move into evil Disney step mother territory was abrupt and lazy. Someone on the writing team grew fond of Stolas and decided he needs to be given as many excuses as possible.
But why? Why couldn’t his ego mixed with the strained relationship with his wife be enough to push him to have an affair?
What was wrong with Stella just being an emotionally distant wife who cared a little too much about image and status?
The show has the illusion of holding characters accountable while also making as many excuses for them as possible.
I think Blitz, as much as I find him annoying is the only character who’s been called out for his mistreatment of people.
All that being said..I do like that Octavia is fed up with her neglectful dad, giving Stolas some actual repercussions for his behavior.
But…
It’s such dogshit writing. Oh my god.
Instead of showing Stella as being this clever mastermind, manipulating Octavia into hating Stolas, Stella is just unabashedly evil, laughing like a moronic cartoon villain in front of her daughter. As crappy as her dad may be, the show has given Octavia no reason to side with her mom either.
I have a hard time giving a shit about any character in this show bc their actions don’t line up, nothing makes any sense and the emotional moments feel cheap and unearned.

He labels his things with a blue sticker so he can keep his stuff organized... he still loses things
He taught himself Mandarin Chinese out of sheer boredom; he is now almost fluent

If my memory serves me correct, you've shown us your take on Mona's parents and 5-Volt's hubby. Have you devised anything about the other parents? Like Kat and Ana's or 18-Volt's? I know we heard only snippets about those and 13-Amp's in canon...kinda. It's interesting how many gaps imagination could fill in when it comes to WarioWare.
Sure have! Ashley's, too. And Wario's mom. And Spitz's dad, although I never actually showed my design of him because it's kind of underwhelming. I also have Dribble's extended family rattling around in my head too (similarly underwhelming because it's just a bunch of dogs). Really I just find it fun to take cartoon characters whose family has been vaguely alluded to at best and fill in the blanks to explain why they're like that. It's like a coloring book. I haven't drawn Kat+Ana's or 18-volt's though...my take on Kat and Ana's parents needs more time in the oven, because 1) i feel like i need to get my finger more on the pulse of campy ninja movies before I can successfully pastiche them, and 2) I don't think I can top this bit from jan Misali's esteemed novella Wario Faces Consequences For His Actions:

I haven't drawn 18-volt's mom before, although I'd probably end up drawing her sooner than the twins only because I have a better handle on her situation. According to 18-volt's stage in Gay Man Wario, his mom is a lot less smothering than 5-volt and is instead rarely around, letting 18-volt play video games whenever he wants. He's clearly a latchkey kid with a single mom who works long hours to support them both, which is both sad and also on par with the rest of the lonely children of WarioWare. 18-volt has been sidelined for so long, but given the crazy deep cuts that Warioware throws out sometimes (e.g. cicada, the music box from WL3, the fact that 5-volt herself was hinted at all the way back in mega microgames), there is a non-zero chance, however slim, that we may one day see her for real. She deserves to have fun too!!

i see a lot of people criticizing that stoltiz and their daughters are a mess but honestly that's what makes me like them??
i like that it wasn't mutual love at first sight, and i like that they can't express themselves properly, all the misunderstandings and lack of communication and all this difficulty in expressing themselves, that's very entertaining to me
and even their daughters are terrible like their dads, i mean just look at loona's advice in this scene!

and she's saying all this because it's what she genuinely believes and she thinks she's helping blitzo
and octavia is a child of an arranged marriage and parents who divorced, she is still too immature to deal with all of this, and is so blinded by nostalgia and thinks that one day they really were a happy family
honestly i think even if stolas said "via i'm fucking gay and my dad forced me to get married since i was a kid", octavia would still find a way to still be upset with stolas. she's still too immature to deal with all of this
in fact, i think that the four of them are still very immature, that's why they can't express themselves properly or see the complete picture. they are so consumed by their insecurities (and think they are the truth) and they don't even try to express them. these things take time and i'm honestly happy to discover a cartoon that doesn't have linear character arcs like this, i know this can be tiring for some people but it's this realism that makes me like it
that's why as a stoltiz shipper i can never understand the discussions stolas vs blitzo on who is right, because in my opinion they are both wrong (maybe not for the same thing, but still) and they are horrible at expressing themselves and they are also horrible at understanding the that the other (and their daughters) are feeling, but even so i can understand their line of reasoning even though i know it's not true
it is also important to remember that in many scenes only we, the audience, know that information (again, their difficulty in expressing themselves and lack of communication)
i wouldn't exactly say i "defend" them, because i just understand their point of view and where this is coming from, and 95% of the time they are all indeed wrong x3
basically it's all this mess that makes me like the ship and the daughters, it's clear that this family loves and cares for each other, they just don't know how to express themselves or interact with anyone. but they have the most important thing, which is love, and with that they can heal and improve

they are worst and they are the best, i love them and i love this story <3

house live-ish blogging: maternity
i love how the writers of this show only know like. 3 names. the baby is almost named amber. instead she is named max. max is also the name of the liver donating girlfriend in sleeping dogs lie. this show also has about six roberts, two chis, 5 rachels…
honestly love this episode. i wish the series had more "everyone pulling a 3 day shift, the only thing that matters is solving the Mystery" episodes, they're so good
i just looked up who wrote this episode to see if it was the same writer who wrote sleeping dogs lie re: the max thing. it isn't. instead it's peter blake, aka the chase whisperer: he also wrote the mistake, cursed, the itch, the tyrant, lockdown, and chase. (a couple shared credits but. damn. apparently this dude just wrote all the greatest hits for our useless nepobaby and his divorce. coincidentally, chase is great in this episode too. god now i want to do a tangent because the same writer wrote cursed/the mistake/lockdown/chase makes perfect fucking sense to me, because in each - when i say chase gets angry and resentful and shuts down when he's upset. when i say it's consistent. him lashing out at rowan isn't that different from him accusing cameron of never loving him, of accusing house of changing him. there's a throughline of these episodes: chase vulnerable, chase angry and upset, chase refusing to open up no matter who begs. and throw in the tyrant, his bonding with dibala and the way the murder is framed as chase lashing out in betrayal rather than moral imperative - man!!! ANYWAY)
i've always loved wilson's little "i can get you a key to the oncology lounge… we're getting TiVo" line. because when i was a kid, my dad got tivo. and when i say he bragged about it. when i say he would bring visitors into our house and show them the tivo and demonstrate the wonders of dvr in those olden days (of the early 2000s) (even if i was watching cartoons). so you know what wilson. i appreciate the flex. it is cool you're getting tivo.
in the script, it notes that chase is taking a nap while foreman studies and cameron reads houses mail. in the episode, chase is still taking his nap, but the other two are just standing around. i mention this just because it's interesting to see what character details are written and which are acting choices. to me.
the script also notes that the gays who lose their son are "comp lit grad students." not sure why we need to know this but i'm glad we do
foreman stepping up and lecturing cameron on bedside manner is. very funny. not that she doesn't need the lecturing in this episode (it's a Theme), but… considering how as time goes by, one of foreman's defining traits is terrible bedside manner… it's very main character of him lol. he truly is the best of the group in these early episodes. no weaknesses, only strengths.
cameron's "it's easier to die than to watch someone die" is so fascinating. it's so loaded with implication. what was her husband like? how much emotional labor was she doing for him? was he in denial of his prognosis until the end, meaning that cameron was stuck both taking care of him and pretending everything was okay? or is cameron, unwittingly, exposing her own selfishness here: does she actually kind of believe her pain is worse because she has to live with it?
that said i do like how even in this scene: cameron freezes up and is awkward at telling the patients bad news, but she's quick to (and good at) reassuring them a moment later. "kim is right," she says, using the patient's name. she's good at bonding with patients and comfort, just not when it's bad news. which, unfortunately, in her job…
i find the differential portions of this episode really interesting because it sets up as foreman has an idea, cameron has an idea, they argue their ideas, they want different treatments, house referees. they each get "assigned" a family and baby. neither are treated as more wrong or more right (although i guess cameron technically is — "her" baby is the one that dies because her treatment is wrong, but medically she did nothing wrong, it's more a larger theme about cameron struggling this episode). and meanwhile chase exists. this has been the case every episode so far lmao: foreman is the main ideas and treatment guy, cameron sometimes chimes in to back him up, chase offers no useful input or contributions. the difference is, this episode chase actually very much pulls his weight with the treatment and his work in NICU; he really is the Procedure Guy, not the Ideas Guy. which makes him a really interesting hire on house's part tbh - chase is almost useless in differentials (so far), he was hired just for his practical skills.
again, it is so weird to see foreman, champion of talking to patients. i mean, i do buy he knows how and is perfectly script accurate. but it was dropped as a trait so quickly
speaking of early installment weirdness: wilson calling cameron allison will never not be weird.
and likewise cameron's angry insistence that the women would rather have hope than truth is. very telling. like yes, we know she deals terribly with loss, but this is… what was her husband like? when did she find out he had cancer? does she wish she had been able to be ignorant longer? it's very clear – to the viewers and everyone in universe – that cameron is seeing this all through her perspective, that she's talking about herself at all times, but… (also imagine this perspective mixed with s6 and dibala. you think part of the reason chase didn't tell her for so long was because he really did think she'd prefer to be ignorant? how wrong or right was he in that?)
in the script, when the baby dies and chase is trying to revive it, there's a note that house puts his hand on chase's arm to get him to stop. not in the episode :( but i like their little interaction here: it's not much, but chase is clearly upset and house lets him go, doesn't scold him. house can in fact be pretty understanding about this stuff! he doesn't like wallowing but he has moments of being a good boss. and then he turns around and has zero sympathy for cameron lol.
cameron trying to foist the "inform the parents" thing on chase is very. hahaha. i always think of chase in forever trying to foist baby duties on her. it's not a great moment for cameron (it's not meant to be), but it… hm. i wouldn't say it's out of character; she never really gets better at dealing directly with death, but trying to weasel out of telling the parents by saying chase (or whoever) should do it seems… off, you know? her freezing up and wilson stepping in feels more on brand. but she's not supposed to be right this episode. she's lowkey supposed to suck.
(and from house's perspective: chase is sad about the dead baby. so is cameron. chase is still doing his job, he can be sad, it's not getting in the way. cameron is sad, and actively avoiding her job/trying to get others to do it for her. that is getting in the way.)
fascinating, too, that cameron is therefore stated in this episode to be bad at talking to patients (compared to foreman being good, and chase being a little awkward but fine).
"chase, you're the intensivist" -- love when the show tells us people's specialties. no one has called cameron an immunologist yet, but we have the guys now. and flash forward a few years, i don't think we technically ever learn thirteen or kutner's specialties (on screen).
in the lab end of the episode, cameron and chase are sitting way too close together. it is very funny how often this happens. i know it's because the actors were dating were not paying attention to body language but still. this is why everyone thought you were dating in s3, cameron
another good moment for cameron at the end of the episode, calling in the surviving baby's parents to hold her for a bit. (love that chase then reported this to house: it's not clear if house asked him how cameron was doing — he asks foreman, so it makes sense he'd check with chase too — or if chase reported it on his own, which also makes sense because chase telling house every bit of gossip he hears is a very consistent character trait lol)
speaking of foreman, his insisting that cameron has everything handled just fine is a) a blatant lie and b) very funny from foreman. which makes him sound like a douche but. he really did gain his ruthlessness later, didn't he?
actually, if house asked both the boys how cameron held up, and foreman lied and chase told a story of cameron having a Good Idea, that's kind of sweet. they're both covering for her/sticking up for her…
i haven't mentioned it but the clinic patient this episode always makes me laugh. shoutout to the actress, she just keeps saying this stupid stuff "oh man! wow!" but with this sincere, no brain cell enthusiasm that is so funny to me.
"do you think you could — " "no." "do the prenatal?" "no." "or deliver the baby?" "that would be no." "oh - kay!"
even though it's probably just a pillow they stuck under her shirt or something, i actually appreciate wardrobe remembered to have the woman who gave birth two days ago have a very noticeable stomach while sitting around in street clothes. realism!
house is oddly gentle with cameron in this scene at the end. "you look tired… you had a hard time this week." i know you can read it as oh, he's in love with her, but i don't think we're supposed to; i'm pretty sure it's a fragment of his nicer s1 personality. because we really don't see it again after s1, even with people or in situations where he's trying to be gentle. ("oh, it's because he's in love with cameron" i'm really not convinced that was the direction of this episode.) it also make's cameron's angry reaction a little odd - not that she wouldn't be defensive, but… house is being so nice, lol. he's not being a bastard at all! just wait until he really starts meddling in your life, cam!
i find it very unlikely that cuddy, tearing apart the hospital for days, didn't notice the old lady loitering around the maternity ward coughing constantly. i find it unlikely no one mentioned her. i get that we're not supposed to worry about these facts
house's soap opera doctor has exactly the same hairstyle as chase lmao

Billy had a dirty little secret.
No, not the gay thing. It was 2023 and even if his dad was a major asshole about it, Billy knew in the grand scheme of things he was just another semi-closeted white gay with an OCD diagnosis and a countdown in his head until he could move out of Indiana and back to someplace more accepting.
No, Billy had an even worse secret. He liked romance novels. And not the cutesy ones with cartoon covers. The kindle app on his phone was full of bonkers vampires, mafia bosses, blue aliens, and secret princes. His library card back in California had a 40 dollar fee on it because he had desperately checked out his favorites, the ones with the busty, Fabio, neon covers, before he got sent to Hawk-a-loogie Indiana.
That’s how he found himself flop sweating in the back stacks of the local library, desperate to find the right shelf without having to ask the kindly older lady behind the counter with the cats knit into her sweater. She looked like she had dropped right out of 1983, and she was eyeing him with a too curious look.
“Can I help you, dear?”
He closed his eyes, hot shame pouring over him, “Romance? My uh… stepsister wants some books. Any old thing will do.”
She just hummed, and indicated a door to the right of the children’s section. “In the basement. Shelves F-K.”
Billy didn’t have high hopes, considering that they’d been shoved to the basement. He’d been so wrong.
It was a paradise. Not only older, historic titles he’d never seen in person, let alone had the opportunity to read, but new stuff too. He goggled at an original cover copy of Indigo by Beverly Jenkins and Prince of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase as well as a brand new copy of Cat Sebastian’s latest gay romance, the cover glossy with a fresh library covering, the corners still sharp.
45 minutes later and more than a little late to pick up Max, he crawled back to the counter, the coveted gay romance sandwiched between two straight ones and a random mystery book thrown on top for cover.
The librarian eyed him carefully.
“You know, we have a romance book club,” she pulled out a small pink flier, “If your sister is interested. I host it, once a month.”
He glanced over it swiftly, clocking her name, Claudia Henderson and filing it away.
“I’ll let her know,” more like he would drag the Shitbird kicking and screaming.
She smiled, “I hope you will.”

a (non)comprehensive list of all characters that i as a child decided were asian because representation hardly existed in the early 2010's, with varying degrees of asian-coding and/or canon. it also gets more unhinged
will not be tagging SHIT because i would like to not experience hate but also i feel like my mutuals would somewhat enjoy this. as a kid, my only requirements were that they either 1) had dark hair 2) had dark eyes or 3) had unnatural hair/eye/skin colour in which case i could go nuts
list is under the cut:
you liked these fairies cause you were gay?? i liked them because they were asian to me we are NOT the same (i am also gay). both are asian coded so i wasn't wrong. also shoutout to vidia for being asian and an absolute BITCH. i think her back is sore from carrying the bitchy asian rep. no one's doing it like her
musa from winx. also asian coded so it works
batman. NOT to be confused with bruce wayne. bruce wayne is white af even to me as a child. but when he had the mask on i could project on him and call him chinese
dick grayson's robin in almost all cartoon iterations (pictured above in the batman) but also including:
to be clear, this is NOT to be confused with dick grayson the civilian, or dick grayson as nightwing. by my 9 y/o logic those guys were both white af. but when dick grayson had the robin mask on that gave room for me to project, as such they're asian
zatanna zatara is wasian IN MY HEART. to ME her mum is chinese and obvi her dad is italian so she's almost just like me (chinese/spanish). idc argue with the wall
superman but ONLY the justice league unlimited version
huntress bertinelli, for the same reasons as zatanna, was always wasian to me. but she gave off half korean, half italian vibes. i will not explain myself
now is raven from a different plane than us?? yes. however azarath is home to asians idek
sorry guys jinx is a bad bitch so she's also asian
while we're at it, beast boy is also asian but ONLY in teen titans. unfortunately young justice beast boy is whitewashed (he was never asian to begin with). i asked my sister if she ever asian-washed characters when watching tv she said no (rudeass) but i provided multiple teen titans as an example and my mum was like "wait?? beast boy isn't asian?? i thought he was asian??" so beast boy is actually mum-approved-asian. i don't make the rules
draculaura from monster high was always asian to me idc what the haters say. everyone say thank you to the monster high reboot for giving me asian draculaura because frankly i deserve it
also. robecca steam is south asian in my heart
jackson jekyll was also asian. idk. he just was
now, since the eah reboot made draculaura wasian i'm BEGGING for there to be an eah reboot because they will do my girl raven queen justice. SHE is asian
kitty cheshire is also asian i don't make the rules
sorry guys duchess swan is also asian
while i'm at it, faybelle thorn is also asian talk to the wall
now i need you guys to pinky promise to be nice to me. percy jackson was wasian to me until ethan nakamura was introduced. only after ethan's introduction did my 13 y/o ass let percy be white again
tony stark is asian but ONLY in iron man armoured adventures
now, a plethora of xmen evolution characters are actually asian (source: i made it the fuck up) these include, but are not limited to: wolverine, x23, wanda and pietro

what ur sam & max headcanons
ok, here some of them from the top of my head cuz i can't remember the rest of them.
Max is a shorter then average lagomorph, and the type of lagomorph he is a none-of-your-damn-business.
Max is a jack rabbit. Funny thing is jack rabbits aren't even rabbits, that's why it easier for him to say he's a lagomorph instead. I mean- he's not wrong.
Sam is trans.
Both Sam and Max have a distant relationship with their moms and a dysfunctional one with their dads. But Sam has a wonderful supportive relationship with his grandmom while Max has an interesting relationship between his siblings. Max like his aunt Tillie more.
Sam's blood is probably tooken over by lil debbies by this point of his life.
Max was the creative soul and Sam is the genius of their friendship when they were kids, until they both became insane lunatics.
Sam was on honor roll all through out school and got the chance to graduate early in high school. Of course he didn't so he can spend more time with Max.
Even though Max's late teen years he had a awakening not a gay one. He realized how much of his life he felt like he's been wasting, not using his full potential or even trying in school and how that is not just fucking up himself but also Sam.
This leads to Max letting go of Sam so he can go to community college while Max does something that lets his creativity shine. He wanted to be a film director but he knew you have to work up to getting that job, so he started as a actor... in "adult" films. His super ego is rolling in his grave
Max also tried and failed to finish making a book.
Max got into a whole ass serious relationship with a woman until he remembered he doesn't like girls. (conveniently when Sam comes back in town)
Max is always living his worst life without Sam.
The reason why Max can't get hypnotized from s1 and why he gets brain powers in s3 is all because of a metal plate in his skull from brain surgery he had off screen before the telltale games. not really a hc but i haven't seen anyone connect the two things
When the two were younger because of Max's awful homelife, Sam's grandmom took pity on him and lets him come over to her house anytime he wants.
Granny ruth is the best parent in the state and was a conviced felon. Which is one of the reasons why she lives in the middle of nowhere.
Max hides is objects in his void behind is back like a cartoon character in looney toons. He doesn't talk about it because it's just unexplainable, like how Sam can somehow put a whole box in his coat pocket. Some things in the world are just not explainable.
Max knows full Spanish growing up and would troll Sam with untranslated jokes or rambling.
Max is rarely scared by anyone but the one who seems to succeed is Thyco. Max and Heavy killed him that poker night, hidden the body and haven't talked about him again... Besides thaat poker night was fun!
Sam listened to [Yes sir, I can Boogie] in the car the whole time Max was gone.
bonus my OLD design of Sam's family

i wish i could remember more but
1) alot of my hc came from when i first got into snm. so some of them would have changed now
2) im not in a sam and max mood, so this is only some of the stuff.

A few Hellaverse things, Helluva Boss version:
**It might be a hard sell for your adult cartoon to star two single gay nomhuman dads, and I’m glad Helluva Boss went for it.
**But while I enjoy Helluva Boss becoming the Stolitz Show, I don’t like the slide towards making Stolas virtually innocent; it’s just not necessary for making a character sympathetic. I’m still keeping the faith that Stolas is also meant to be at fault for how rocky things became between him and Blitz but the show’s execution has made me paranoid that it will take the path of least resistance, as it did with Stella.
**I knew Stella would be a shallow antagonist from her first speaking scene, but I expected her to be enjoyably bitchy. I didn’t know how hard they’d go, where not only is she evil, but she’s also incredibly stupid, not at all fun, and has her brother pulling the strings—even Mammon is at least fun.
I really hope that the intention is not what that the fandom has latched onto: that Stella’s relationship to Stolas is a powerful expression of the way men can be abused and that everything between them must be viewed with utter seriousness.
**In fact, a major problem I have with Helluva Boss is that you can never tell when a one-off comical moment is going to be retroactively taken seriously despite the initial comedic framing. Like, just with “Ghostfuckers”, Blitz’s visions of trauma included the nutkick from Loona in “Seeing Stars” which it was framed for comedy initially. The fire in “Loo Loo Land” was played for laughs but now a vision of toasty Millie haunts Blitz.
With all that happening it’s no wonder people have, say, the interpretation of Stella mentioned above, or, say, Stolas’s butler getting tossed around as weighty evidence of Stella’s abuse instead of a Looney Tunes gag. Who knows, it might be.
It also kills a lot of the momentum in Octavia’s anguish, if all she has to do to improve her life is to understand Stella is irredeemable and Stolas was 100% justified. Not all of the momentum, but most. I’m still holding onto the faith that Stolas won’t be a creator’s pet, but my interest in Octavia’s story is tanking.
It still works in the Hellaverse sometimes—the foreshadowing with RoboFizz was a good example, and in general it’s a good beat to strive for. Comedic moments should often derive from characterization and perspectives should shift with the telling. But again, when it’s done badly it feels overindulgent.
**So do the many instances of comical Hellaverse characters having secret angst, witj all their quirks being tied to their tragic backstory. While this is delicious when done right, it’s difficult to *get* right and often feels like wanting to tell every kind of story with only one character. Blitz is the most successful example. Not 100%, but in the lead.
**I’m still against the fan theory that Blitz is part incubus—because Tilla was tall and he banged Verosika and has Stolas pining—because not everything in a story needs to have a detailed explanation and boy do I hate fantasy bio-essentialism.
Especially when the show is trying to push back against that, sort of. If Blitz has a "special" genetic background then his ability to run his own business from Hell’s lowest tier turns bleak.
Besides, only “Apology Tour” shows Blitz had a lot of bedpost notches (and it doesn’t prove his heritage and if it offers insight should have been mentioned before).
But then again, I didn’t think Striker was a hybrid because imp appearances are so varied that I expected the artists had just further bent the rules and stylized one of them to fit a western motif/make a Rango reference. I still think it might undermine Striker’s issues with class and superiority but maybe they’ll surprise me.
(And Striker wasn’t nerfed, because it’s not a surprise that the guy who sang "Sweet Victory” has a statue of himself with a boner. And pretty much no Hellaverse character is played entirely straight.)
…and I also didn't want Moxxie to secretly “not” be from Wrath because not fitting in where you’re born is a solid story beat, but look how that turned out. Thanks for keeping the clarification confined to tweets by the way, love that.
**Also, much as I love Richard Horvitz, he doesn’t make for a threatening mob boss.
**And I have to say that evil dads bother me less than sainted, dead mothers.
**Though I think his mom enjoyed Moxxie learning to shoot--and *I* enjoy it when Moxxie shows he has ego to spare instead of being a woobie. I stick to my interpretation that he’s fine with the shooting and killing as long as it’s the right people, and the contrasting parts of his character make him more appealing.
**Shame about the Millie problem. I’m glad she's finally getting focus, and I hope it’s not because the fandom had to point it out, though production time makes that unlikely
**I wish we could have directly seen Blitz and Verosika’s dating life and breakup. You can infer all of it, but if it’s such a big thing, well…
**”Succubi” becoming a gender-neutral term in the fandom is very odd, unless it’s the inverse of “mankind” and refers to the collective species as well as the women alone, but then you have people saying “male succubus” and uh.
**I love Asmodeus' design, and how it translates the artwork from the Lesser Key of Solomon into the series’ style.
But it’s hypocritical of Ozzie to say lust isn’t about force when he’s got succubi and incubi around, and because Helluva Boss often takes the path of least resistance he probably isn't intended as hypocritical, or even a Screwtape Letters bit where things are still sinful even if there’s no immediate or overt damage.
HOWEVER, I’m reluctant to come down too hard on the issue because of my Being genuinely upset at Ozzie's line and that the Hellaverse demons aren’t “demonic” enough brings out my inner contrarian because of the moralistic dimension to their feelings: that the concept of demons and the danger must be treated with respect and fear or it’s somehow immoral. If Ozzie’s words make those sorts of people mad, then I can't be too put out at the softening of demons.
Yet, it was oddly satisfying for “Ghostfuckers” to include a demon who was actually torturing humanity when it couldn’t be written off as "fun" (like Verosika's crew) or adult cartoon shenanigans (like IMP).
(Though it was kinda goofy to theorize that Leviathan, leader of the Envy ring, would suddenly be the antagonist of one sleazy hotel just because said antagonist was aquatic.)
(Stolas in “Truth Seekers” perfectly represents how satisfying it is to show these goofy abrasive characters can be actually scary hellspawn, but the other full-demon forms are a bit of a letdown.)
**Meanwhile, Beelzebub is great. The unapologetic self-indulgence of making her both a sparkledog and a homage to the creator's own Die Young video is just incredible. I don't think there's meta-commentary involved in choosing Gluttony to do this with, but it's a pleasant coincidence.
**And yeah, Mammon is a hate sink and the most sinful Sin in a way that sticks out, but he’s _fun_, and way more effective at being both a comedic character and also a personal threat to the characters/ representative of a societal ill than Stella is or might be.
However, “Two Minutes Notice” would be more satisfying with a few more episodes making clear how shitty he is to work for and how insecure Fizz is. Introducing and then solving the problem in the same episode is too rushed.
In general, the newer sinner designs of HB, following the generic Ohio sinner and Ms. Mayberry, are better at communicating the idea that a sinner’s form suggests their past life and death. Rita is a particular favorite.
**Each Ring having a color theme and themed species is also great stuff, and so is the choice to have so many hybrids and make Hellhounds resemble all domestic dog breeds.
**The imp variation and trans imps are also neat, though I still am confused why viewers think AFAB imp horns have "thin white stripes" rather than those "stripes" suggesting goat-like horn grooves as they do in every other cartoon.
**I realize the Hellaverse is a place where all nonhumans act like 21st century Americans, but I love it when it flirts with xenofiction, like the redneck imps of Wrath looking down on the use of guns.

So this post is a little rant because I tried to read Crescent City 2 and it is so messy and shallow. In fact all sjm books are shallow even Tog that I like
Let me say first:
-if you are fan of sjm please do not sand hate to me ( if you want to type actual response you are welcome) if you don't want to see this block me or tags anti sjm, sjm critical anti cc, anti tog, tog critical,
-when I recognize that sjm is not responsible for quality of other people work she definitely started trend,
- sjm is probably normal but a little bit ignorant and privileged person and so if you don't like her please don't call her slurs in my comments as I think her mistakes are often result of publisher negligence or cuddles ( her growth as author regressed bc they wanted more money),
- there's political massage in every creation. We humans are social animals and politic is element of our lives. Creating something apolitical is political statement on its own. And sjm's books aren't apolitical to begin.
So here my rant (multiple mini rants):
I hate how sjm's books are just aesthetic tm and how they revert fantasy to early 00s. Her worldbuilding is atrocious. She picks and chooses elements of different cultures and she doesn't mash them well but smack them together. Just like fantasy authors did in the past. Early 00s cartoons from Disney had more respect and understanding of cultures. Her biggest crime in my opinion is creating this female predator trope (Maeve, Amaranth) just to explain bad behaviour of her male characters, bc her morally grey male fea was "forced to" act this way towards his true mate but if female character act half as bad she is crucified. Never mind, her true crime is normalizing usage of male/ female/ mating. It wasn't popular before and if you think it is normal I'm sorry but this literally men's trying to explain why they behave predatory towards women narrative "baby i need to act this way it's my instinct" (its giving Jacob from twilight toward baby).
Recently, I tried rereading some scenes from tog and Bi Aedion comparing his bisexuality to lysandra experience as slave is just sad. I legit expected him to say that he was raped by aderlan's soldiers after battle and not him coming out to her. The only logical explanation is that sjm can't understand what she is writing. Bc Aedion seems like decent guy at this point of story and this was framed as important moment in their relationship. This and whole making babies that look like aelin, so lysandra's cover as aelin is not blown are the reasons why I can't ship aedion/lysandra. This is also a prime example of sjm inability to write good lgbt characters or presenting them as equal to others in narrative. Hasar ( tod charcter) is described as ugly with long nose. She is also only semi positive, cunning, but good lesbian character that is in our main characters age bracket. Only gay couple in tog are your typical gay dads, but also one of them was too weak to become immortal so they are now living in fantasy border camp and aren't motioned after hof. There is also Manon's grandmother who is basically salling other witches to be breading stocks for demons and oh she is lesbian. So great selection. again i will stick to good luck Charlie lesbian moms from that one episode. Before anyone say that she couldn't possibly have same sex couple in main cast cassandra clare had in early 10s, rick riordan's nico had on page coming out in 2014. the answer is simply she didn't want one.
Nehemia was my favourite character in first books and I refused to believe in this bs that she chose to die. No it was retcon to make aelin poor little mow mow, that suffer so much. Nehemia literally promised to dorian that she will teach him magic (top 10 ships that never sailed), why would she made sacrifice before aelin or dorian tapped into their potential?
Elide is so confusing character bc she should be witch but isn't. But there's still some witch in her. Sjm's established that witch only needs witch mother to be full witch. But I guess it's something skip generation. Also, why sjm needs to make pregnancy to every species difficult and then make them have several babies. Witches and fea are the main offenders of this. And several times it is only to advance men (rowan fake mate being pregnant ). Sjm stop creating worlds where women have it worse than men and then have them risking their lives simply bc men want son.
Several people were praising sjm bc her characters had past relationships and didn't end up with first boyfriend they were in series. But her characters don't break up in normal way in later books. Chaol was blamed for nehemia death and his rational fears were presented as this stupid takes. Rowan previous lover was turned into this fake decoy. after mating bond is established between rowan and aelin, they are completely disregarding past experience. Everything is better, more right and simply as it should be. Aelin, who didn't start relationship with dorian bc of rationality can't wait to make out with 500 yo dude. I wonder what if rowan's child had survived? They would be older then fenrys. Why isn't aelin thinking about it? Why isn't she thinking that her husband is her uncle's age? He calls fenrys boyo. Fenrys calls aedion boyo. Yet aelin's only thinking how she and rowan will have multiple world conquerin babies and how if something happens to her rowan would be great king. She knows him not even year
It is long post, and frankly, I'm exhausted after long day. If you read it all I'm sorry for my emotional rumbling. Don't be afraid to interact and please be mindful of rules that I made at the beginning.
