Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girl found dead in a hidden room.
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#lan xichen#jin guangyao#jiang cheng#wei wuxian#qin su#EDIT: Tumblr published an earlier draft with only half the notes I wrote so: late entry on my JGY thoughts.#Unlike the mystic powers of the stockmarket (what the OG meme is referring to) I think this situation calls for more active investigation.#qin su is such a deeply tragic character to me and I really wish we got a bit more from her.#Love everyone who sent me messages about her after the last time she appeared.#I think she needs a spin off of her being a transmigrator SO badly.#MDZS has so many interesting characters - but it sometimes fails to give them the proper room to really develop past a role in the plot.#That's just the consequence of writing a story like MDZS. Not every character in a book *needs* to have a rich inner life and backstory!#To do so would bog down the story and obliterate any notion of pacing. It's just not possible.#Jin Guangyao (nee Meng Yao) is unfortunately not free from this leeway rule. He is the culprit of this murder mystery plot#and thus NEEDS to encapsulate the themes of the book. And personally he's a 7 out of 10 at best on this front (in the AD).#MDZS is about rumours twisting reality and working towards truth. And about how people & situations are rarely ever black & white#JGY has his motivations. He's well written in regards to his actions making sense for his character.#What started as good traits (drive to succeed & improve his image) became twisted over time (do anything to maintain his image)#and it's a good parallel to WWX! He has the same arc (with different traits)! Bonus points for IGY in that regard.#but man....by the time we confront this guy for murder there's not a lot of grey morality. He's just...deep in the hole *he* dug.#There's a beautiful tragedy to it! More on JGY in later comics - this is getting pretty long already!

so i may or may not have printed out the entirety of @anonymousalchemist's amazing fic like a bird, like a stone onto three Very Large pieces of paper.
you might be asking, why, fay? why did you print out an entire 53k fic for a video game you've never played? well you see, if you read it, you would understand.

playing around with a merlin AU in my brain world where arthur is the one with magic and merlin is just some peasant boy whos below average in almost every relevant skill except pissing people off, but is also involved. got some logistics to work out before i try making it a full fic or anything, but its funny to imagine
like yeah, arthur is the prince of camelot and also on track to become one of the greatest sorcerers ever. but you know who his counterpart is? THIS yapper
even funnier if episode 1 has arthur actually stopping his own assassination, but merlin gets credited for it, and much to arthur's displeasure he can't speak up cause he used magic to do it- so now hes got this annoyance as his personal servant (a position he purposely neglected to fill because he didnt want anyone finding out about THE MAGIC)
then the next time arthur sees the dragon, he's like "oh also your servant is part of your destiny. yeah, the one who dropped your breakfast tray all over the floor which made a really fucking loud noise before putting your clothes on backwards. i dont make the rules sorry. btw you should teach him how to fight so he doesnt die"

Because tuatara are very long lived - between 100 and 200 years by most estimates […] - the founding of Aotearoa/New Zealand as a modern nation and the unfolding of settler-wrought changes to its environment have transpired over the course of the lives of perhaps just two tuatara [...].
---
[T]he tuatara (Sphenodon punctatus) [...] [is] the sole surviving representative of an order of reptiles that pre-dates the dinosaurs. [...] [T]he tuatara is of immense global and local significance and its story is pre-eminently one of deep timescales, of life-in-place [...]. Epithets abound for the unique and ancient biodiversity found in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Prized as “Ghosts of Gondwana” (Gibbs 2008), or as denizens of “Moa’s Ark” (Bellamy et al. 1990) or “The Southern Ark” (Andrews 1986), the country’s faunal species invoke fascination and inspire strong language [...]. In rounded terms, it [has been] [...] just 250 years since James Cook made landfall; just 200 years since the founding of the handful of [...] settlements that instigated agricultural transformation of the land [...]. European newcomers [...] were disconcerted by the biota [...]: the country was seen to “lack” terrestrial mammals; many of its birds were flightless and/or songless; its bats crawled through leaf-litter; its penguins inhabited forests; its parrots were mountain-dwellers; its frogs laid eggs that hatched miniature frogs rather than tadpoles [...].
---
Despite having met a reassuringly temperate climate [mild, oceanic, comparable to western Europe], too, the newcomers nevertheless sought to make adjustments to that climate, and it was clear to them that profits beckoned. Surveying the towering lowland forests from the deck of HMS Endeavour in 1769, and perceiving scope for expansion of the fenland drainage schemes being undertaken at that time in England and across swathes of Europe, Joseph Banks [botanist on Cook's voyage] reported on “swamps which might doubtless Easily be drained” [...]. Almost a century later, in New Zealand or Zealandia, the Britain of the South, [...] Hursthouse offered a fuller explication of this ethos: The cultivation of a new country materially improves its climate. Damp and dripping forests, exhaling pestilent vapours from rank and rotten vegetation, fall before the axe [...]. Fen and march and swamp, the bittern’s dank domain, fertile only in miasma, are drained; and the plough converts them into wholesome plains of fruit, and grain, and grass. [...]
[The British administrators] duly set about felling the ancient forests of Aotearoa/New Zealand, draining the country’s swamps [...]. They also began importing and acclimatising a vast array of exotic (predominantly northern-world) species [sheep, cattle, rodents, weasels, cats, crops, English pasture grasses, etc.] [...]. [T]hey constructed the seemingly ordinary agronomic patchwork of Aotearoa/New Zealand's productive, workaday landscapes [...]. This is effected through and/or accompanied by drastic deforestation, alteration of the water table and the flow of waterways, displacement and decline of endemic species, re-organisation of predation chains and pollination sequences and so on [...]. Aotearoa/New Zealand was founded in and through climate crisis [...]. Climate crisis is not a disastrous event waiting to happen in the future in this part of the world; rather, it has been with us for two centuries already [...].
---
[T]he crest formed by the twinned themes of absence and exceptionalism [...] has shaped this creature's niche in the western imagination. As one of the very oldest species on earth, tuatara have come to be recognised [in Euro-American scientific schemas] [...] as an evolutionary and biodiversity treasure [...]. In 1867, [...] Gunther [...] pronounced that it was not a lizard at all [...] [and] placed the tuatara [...] in a new order, Rhynchocephalia, [...] igniting a frenzy of scientific interest worldwide. Specifically, the tuatara was seen to afford opportunities for "astonished witnessing" [...], for "the excitement of having the chance to see, to study, to observe a true saurian of Mesozoic times in the flesh, still living, but only on this tiny speck of the earth [...], while all its ancestors [...] died about one hundred and thirty-five million years ago" [...]. Tuatara have, however, long held special status as a taonga or treasured species in Māori epistemologies, featuring in a range of [...] stories where [...] [they] are described by different climates and archaeologies of knowledge [...] (see Waitangi Tribunal 2011, p. 134). [...]
While unconfirmed sightings in the Wellington district were reported in the nineteenth century, tuatara currently survive only in actively managed - that is, monitored and pest-controlled - areas on scattered offshore islands, as well as in mainland zoo and sanctuary populations. As this confinement suggests, tuatara are functionally “extinct” in almost all of their former wild ranges. [...] [Italicized text in the heading of this post originally situated here in Boswell's article.] [...] In the remaining areas of Aotearoa/New Zealand where this species does now live [...], tuatara may in some cases be the oldest living inhabitants. Yet [...] if the tuatara is a creature of long memory, this memory is at risk of elimination or erasure. [...] [T]uatara expose and complicate the [...] machineries of public memory [...] and attendant environmental ideologies and management paradigms [...].

Day 19 - Blood Trail
Character(s): Ravio and Legend (LU)
Words: 597
Summary: Link hasn’t come home for a while now, he promised to be back before dusk fall. Something guided him to find him, even if it wasn’t really pleasant (This takes place like a month or so before Legend meets the chain)
Whump scale: 2 (see the full scale here)
Warning: Injury, this one isn't that bad like the past days
-
Closing the shop was a daily routine that Ravio was already used to, since he moved to Link’s house his main priority was to take good care of his business.
Normally, Link would help him to get some boxes back inside. He was out to take care of some monsters that the princess asked him to investigate. The sun was already hiding in the horizon.
This was normal, Mr. Hero going out to take care of monsters and then came back a little grumpier than usual. He said that he would be back before the sun is gone, he never gets late. Just when something happens.
Ravio doesn’t consider himself a brave lorulean, the only reason he survived so long in the decaying kingdom of Lorule was because his cleverness to get out of situations.
This time, he decided to be brave and go out during the night in search of Mr. Hero. With a magic rod borrowed from Link he went to the forest where he heard that the monsters were appearing.
The lantern he brought with him wasn’t that helpful with the fog in the forest because of the season, but it was enough to spot something red in the grass.
Ravio didn’t had a good feeling already.
He kept his pace steady, holding the magic rod in one hand ready to use it if anything appears.
The blood was becoming more and more present, fresher even. It means two things; he’s getting closer, and that something happened with Link.
Something larger than average hylian was barely visible in the fog, obviously a moblin. It had a spear, obviously threatening something—or someone— with it.
The rod made its magic and burned the moblin, turning it into ashes with the overwhelming amount of concentrated energy and was not a threat anymore.
Now looking more clearly who was the poor victim of the moblin’s spear, Ravio’s blood felt cold.
“MR. HERO!” As fast as he could he went to kneel in front of Link, putting the lantern and the magic rod aside to check on him.
A clean cut on his abdomen, its not mortal but it sure is deep. No organ seems to have been affected, so he would be fine.
“Ra-Ravio…? The fuck are you doin’ here?” Maybe it was because of the blood loss, Link’s accent being more noticeable.
“You didn’t come back to the shop in time, had to come to save your butt.” The lorulean took out some bandages, he had already a feeling about what would he encounter, it was always like this with Mr. Hero.
“It wasn’t ‘cause I wanted.” Before Ravio could say something else, Link spoke again “That fucker seemed more stronger than the other ones.”
That was new “What do you mean?” Stronger? Maybe it was just the leader.
“The rest of its group was easy to take down, but that one,” He looked to the pile of ash that the monster turned to be after being hit with the magic rod’s energy “its blood was black, Ravio.”
“What.” That was really unusual. “Should we report to the princess?”
Link gave an exasperated sigh “Obviously! If there are more of these Din’s dammed things out there I will prefer to have some support—Ouch!”
“Sorry, stop moving.” They will send the letter tomorrow, right now he needs to take care of this injury. If these things are overpowered monsters that even Link can’t take down alone, he needs to do his best to give support. Knowing him, Mr. Hero will get himself killed by going alone.

spontaneity
“Oh! An urge!” Maiara exclaims, sitting upright abruptly and throwing Cody’s balance off for a step. Core strength is wasted on the young, he thinks. “An urge, exactly,” Cody agrees. “Mostly a sudden urge. Like the sudden urge to climb up a pillar. That’s spontaneous.” “I have the spontaneous to do it again,” Maiara tells him very gravely.

I feel like one thing we can take away from this kickstarter is that Cassandra Clare will never be done with the Shadowhunters universe. like literally all these new short stories come from the fact she took a six month "break" from writing shadowhunters lmao

My Young Adult Book Series ~ Free Giveaway!
Hello Tumblr!
I'm an author of a YA fantasy book series called The Rags and Riches series. 2/4 books are out, and I'm hard at work on the third.
The book series follows 16-year-old Rose King as she is magically transported to a world with demons, vampires, and a terrifying monster that lurks in the shadows. Once there, she can't find her way home, and falls in with a group of teenagers who are just trying to survive.
This book series is my passion project. I love working on it and want to promote it as much as possible.
If you are interested, here is a link to a you tube video of me reading the first chapter.
I would like to do a free give away of The Rose Petal and the sequel Broken Time. To save myself time and money, I will be sending the books directly to you, so these copies won't be signed.
To enter the give away please do the following things:
Reblog this post so that it can reach more people
Comment that you want a copy
I will pick a winner and contact them on September 9th, 2023. Please do not send me your mailing address unless I contact you asking for it. This is my only writing blog and I will not contact you with any other username.
