i am absolutely loving the melusine creator! could you maybe write a little bit more on what it was like when they first woke up as a melusine? i’d imagine that’d be quite the shift from human with fully articulate fingers to cute little mittens!
ohhhh you're so right!! also thank you hehe i'm also in love with this concept i'm glad people are enjoying it :]
the first thing you see when you open your eyes are colors. so. many. colors, all in dancing in your vision like a colorful array of gemstones. it's beautiful, and wonderful, and Archons it makes you dizzy so for a moment you just close your eyes and sit there in the quiet cavern, relishing the sudden silence. where you were slashed and stabbed and eventually slain still ache, but the pain slowly fades as you lay there in the dim light, intermittently opening your eyes and squeezing them shut again to get used to the new vibrancy of the world around you. you reach your arms up to give them a good stretch, stiff all over, and are greeted by a pair of colorful mittens rather than fingers and human hands
you freeze, holding yourself back from screaming when you take a look at your legs, all covered in swirling patterns almost dusted with tiny, shimmering stars
you're a Melusine, an actual Melusine, so small and colorful with a pair of squishy antennae and a little tail. everything is disorienting and odd as you attempt to walk around, not used to having such stumpy legs, contemplating your resurrection and new body. the surface has no appeal to you, filled to the brim with those who hunted and hurt you, so your legs carry you deeper into the caves, stumbling and tripping every so often. you barely even notice the tiny wings on your back, so overwhelmed by anything, by the memories of the pain and screaming. but there's a light touch on your shoulder that pulls you back to reality. another Melusine watches you worriedly, asking if you're lost and introducing herself as Cosanzeana
several nations over, an Abyssal beast sits bolt upright in the Eleventh Harbinger's chambers

A story i had thought of for years now ngl 😭
rukawa visiting hanamichi during rehabilitation, a short story
Tumblr media
The off-putting smell of disinfectant hung in the still air, mingling with the low volume of a midday game show playing on the small TV mounted in the corner. The hospital room was unremarkable—plain walls, a small window filtering gray light—but to Hanamichi Sakuragi, it felt like a prison. He sat slouched against the headboard, his gaze stuck on the screen but his mind miles away. His red hair, which was now overgrown and unkempt, had lost its usual vibrancy under the harsh fluorescent lights. For someone who had always lived in constant motion, a boy who had gone about life energized and brimming with reckless energy, being confined to this quiet, sterile place felt like slowly disappearing.
The days blurred together, each one stretching into the next. Rehabilitation was tough, not just on his body, but on his pride. After the Sannoh game—after putting everything on the line—he’d found himself here, recovering from the spinal injury that cut his season short. The doctors were optimistic about his recovery, but for Sakuragi, it felt like he’d been benched by life itself. Just when he thought he had discovered himself and his greatest passion. It hurt Hanamichi deeply, to say the least.
He poked at the tray of hospital food on the table beside him, which had gone cold and untouched, as his appetite had become buried beneath frustration and exhaustion. The early days of rehabilitation had been filled with visitors—his teammates showing up with easy jokes and loud promises that he’d be back on the court in no time. But life moved on, and the visits trickled away, leaving Sakuragi alone in a limbo of uncertainty.
A knock at the door jolted him out of his thoughts. He frowned. It was probably a nurse coming to nag him about his progress—or lack thereof.
“Come in,” he grumbled, not bothering to sit up straighter.
The door creaked open, and Sakuragi blinked in surprise. Standing there, calm and completely unbothered, was Kaede Rukawa. He was dressed in a hoodie and jeans, with a plastic bag in one hand and a basketball tucked under his arm. Without saying a word, Rukawa stepped inside, his sharp eyes sweeping the room before landing on Sakuragi.
“Fox?!” Sakuragi shouted, his voice somewhere between shock and indignation. “What are you doing here?”
“Visiting,” Rukawa replied simply, closing the door behind him. He placed the basketball on the chair near the bed and set the plastic bag on the small table.
“Well, I don’t need your pity,” Sakuragi shot back, folding his arms with a defensive scowl. His movements were stiff, the soreness in his back betraying him.
“It’s not pity,” Rukawa said, his voice as steady and indifferent as ever. He unpacked the bag and placed a bento box and a sports drink on the tray. “But you do look pathetic.”
Sakuragi’s jaw dropped, his fist clenching on instinct. “Why you—”
“Eat,” Rukawa interrupted, cutting him off with a tone so calm it was infuriating. He sat down in the chair, leaning back as if he had all the time in the world.
Sakuragi scowled at him but reached for the bento anyway. His hunger outweighed his pride, and he wasn’t about to starve to make a point. As he unwrapped the box and picked up the chopsticks, he shot Rukawa a suspicious glance. “Alright, what’s the deal? Why are you really here? Coach send you?”
Rukawa gave a slight nod. “Anzai-sensei wanted me to check in. Said you’d probably be sulking.”
“I’m not sulking!” Sakuragi shot back, his voice rising. “I’m just… thinking.”
“About what?” Rukawa asked, his gaze was direct in a way that made it impossible to dodge.
Caught off guard, Sakuragi hesitated, poking at the rice in his bento box. “About… basketball,” he muttered. “About whether I’ll ever play again.”
“You will,” Rukawa said, his voice so annoyingly matter-of-fact it left no room for doubt.
Sakuragi glanced at him, his irritation giving way to something softer. “How can you be so sure?”
“Because you’re too stubborn to quit,” Rukawa replied, leaning back further in his chair and stretching his arms. “Even when you’re terrible, you don’t stop.”
“Terrible?!” Sakuragi snapped, his voice fuming with indignation. “Are you here to insult me or motivate me, fox?”
Rukawa’s lips curved into the faintest smirk. “Both.”
For a moment, Sakuragi didn’t know whether to laugh or throw the bento box at his head. He settled for a grudging grin and shoved another bite of food into his mouth. The silence stretched between them, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. For once, it felt… natural.
As Sakuragi finished his meal, he leaned back against the pillows, his expression growing more serious. “You know,” he began, his voice quieter now, “when I first got hurt, I didn’t want to see anyone. Not you guys, not even Coach. I felt… weak. Like I let everyone down.”
“You didn’t,” Rukawa said. His voice was slightly softer than usual but just as steady and certain.
Sakuragi let out a dry laugh, and his gaze dropped to his hands. “Yeah, right. I barely lasted the game. I pushed myself too hard, and now I’m here. Meanwhile, you’re all out there playing while I’m stuck in this bed.”
“You gave everything,” Rukawa responded. “That’s what mattered.”
Sakuragi looked up and blinked, startled by the blunt honesty in Rukawa’s voice. “Did you just… compliment me? Did Kaede Rukawa actually say something nice?”
“Don’t get used to it,” Rukawa replied with a shrug, though there was a faint trace of amusement in his expression.
Sakuragi laughed, the sound spilling out before he could stop it. It hurt, his back protesting the sudden movement, but he couldn’t help himself. Rukawa stood, grabbing the basketball and placing it on the bed.
“When you’re ready,” he said quietly, “we’ll see who the real tensai is.”
Sakuragi’s grin widened, and in that moment, it was as if his old spark returned. “You’d better be ready, fox. I’m coming back stronger than ever.”
Rukawa didn’t respond, but as he reached the door, he paused and glanced back. “Take your time. Don’t rush it.”
When the door clicked shut behind him, Sakuragi stared at the basketball sitting at the foot of his bed. The sterile room felt a little less suffocating now. For the first time in weeks, he felt something close to hope—something solid enough to hold on to.
He leaned back against the pillows, his hand brushed the basketball as a small, determined smile crossed his face. The road ahead would be long and hard and painful, but he’d take every step. And when he came back, he’d make sure Rukawa never forgot who the real tensai was.

Chapter 5: Golden Year (2006)
Tumblr media
.
The air in 2006 carried a vibrance that could only exist in fleeting moments of youth. Kyoto’s skies were a brilliant shade of blue, dotted with lazy clouds drifting past the warmth of a sun that bathed the Jujutsu Tech grounds in golden light. Laughter echoed through the courtyard as a group of students reveled in the unspoken camaraderie of shared struggles and fleeting triumphs.
The haunted house was their challenge, a mission meant to test courage and skill. The dilapidated structure loomed ominously in the distance, ivy snaking through shattered windows like the fingers of ghosts long forgotten. Dust motes danced in the faint light that filtered through the cracks of rotting wood. This was no place for joy, yet here they were, young and brimming with a sense of invincibility that could only belong to students who believed they could take on the world.
Yuna and Utahime had ventured ahead, daring one another to brave the shadows. Their laughter had faded to silence, replaced by the unsettling creaks of an unstable floor and the whispers of the past that seemed to cling to the air. When the structure gave way, time itself seemed to pause.
Gojo, ever the confident, was the first to arrive. His silhouette was framed by the glow of an afternoon sun slipping into twilight. He peered into the gloom, calling out. “I came to save you two. Are you crying?” His voice was dripping with sarcasm, but his eyes betrayed concern.
Utahime’s furious reply came from under a pile of rubble, her face dusted with dirt but her spirit untouched. “Shut up, Gojo!” she snapped, her anger lending her strength to free herself.
It was a chaotic rescue, filled with bickering and teasing. Shoko and Mei Mei joined soon after, their relief palpable as Utahime and Yuna emerged bruised but smiling.
“Here, let me help,” Shoko said softly, dusting off Yuna’s clothes with tender care. “Thanks, Shoko,” Yuna replied, her voice warm.
Meanwhile, Mei Mei was determined to get her hug from Geto, who tried to sidestep her affection with little success.
“Stay still, Suguru,” Mei Mei teased, wrapping her arms around him.
Gojo leaned against a broken beam, his grin unfazed by the chaos. “Utahime, I’d say you owe me a thank-you.”
“I’d rather thank Suguru,” Utahime retorted with a sly smile.
Yuna smirked, stepping closer to Geto and wrapping her arms around his waist. “Too bad for you, Utahime. Suguru’s already mine.”
.
The group, now reunited and relieved, decided to head into the city for drinks. The walk was filled with laughter, their steps in sync with the rhythm of a friendship forged through fire. Gojo led the way, his white hair catching the dim glow of streetlights as they neared their destination.
Inside the bar, the atmosphere was warm, the hum of conversation and clinking glasses creating a soothing backdrop. Yuna and Geto sat close, their shoulders touching.
“What drink would you like, Yuna?” Geto asked, his voice soft but steady. “A Yamabuki,” she said with a faint smile.
As the drinks arrived, Geto leaned in, placing a light kiss on Yuna’s cheek. She blushed, her happiness radiating. Across the table, Gojo groaned dramatically.
“All this sweetness is making me want to throw up,” he muttered, earning laughter from the group.
Yet, not all hearts were light. Utahime’s gaze lingered on Yuna and Geto, her smile forced. Mei Mei nudged her playfully, but the sadness in Utahime’s eyes spoke of longing she couldn’t quite hide.
“She’s still holding onto her crush,” Gojo whispered to Yuna, who frowned.
“I thought it’d pass after we started dating,” Yuna murmured, her voice tinged with guilt.
“Utahime’s stubborn,” Gojo said. “She’ll come around, eventually.”
The night continued with teasing and lighthearted banter, a balm for the soul. Yuna kissed Shoko on the cheek, earning a shy smile, then turned to Gojo, planting a kiss that turned his face a brilliant shade of pink. Finally, she kissed Geto, their affection drawing playful groans from their friends.
“Let’s go home,” Yuna said softly.
As they left the bar, the streets glimmered with the light of neon signs and stars barely visible in the city’s haze. Yuna and Geto walked hand in hand, their love a quiet force that steadied them. Gojo, Shoko, Mei Mei, and Utahime followed, their chatter filling the air like music. Though Utahime trailed behind, her footsteps slower, her heart heavier, the night ended as it always did—with the unbreakable bonds of a friendship that, even through jealousy and heartbreak, stood firm. For in their shared past, they found the strength to face the uncertain future.

Being with him was like being enveloped in a warm, golden glow; his presence adding vibrancy and light to every moment. Even in the bleakest moments, when I felt lost in the chaos of battle, he remained a constant beacon of hope and love. His strong arms always provided support and comfort, our souls intertwining in ways I never thought possible. But every now and then, when the chaos around us subsided and we had a moment of peace, Gale would pull me away from the rest of our troop. We would find a quiet spot, away from prying eyes, and just be together. In those moments, it was like the rest of the world didn't exist. It was just him and me.
"With you, I forget my goddess. I love you" he had whispered in my ear, under a sea of stars. And in that moment, it felt like all of my doubts and fears disappeared. Gale's love for me was real and true; it was something worth holding onto amidst the chaos of war.
So as we stood victorious over the defeated Brain, I turned to the wizard with a triumphant smile and tears streaming down my cheeks. This was what we had risked our lives for, what we had fought and bled for.
"Beloved," Gale whispered, his voice brimming with emotion. "We have faced countless perils together, defying fate itself. Our love has withstood trials and tribulations that most would crumble under. I cannot fathom another day without you by my side."He took a step closer, our bodies gravitating towards each other as if pulled by an invisible force.
The crashing waves and salty sea air filled their lungs as they stood on the decks of the city, overlooking the ocean. The sun was setting in a blaze of pink and orange, casting a warm glow over our faces. "Let us leave this place," he said, his voice trembling with emotion. "We should go back home to Waterdeep. We can build a life together, away from the battles and the constant threat of danger. We can find solace in each other's arms, and create a haven where love and peace reign supreme." he took a deep breath, mustering the courage to add, "Let's get married." His words resonated deep within my soul, stirring a longing I hadn't realized was there. Yes, Waterdeep, the city of wonders and dreams, seemed like the perfect place to start our new chapter.
"Yes," I whispered, the word escaping my lips like a fervent prayer. "I'd be honored to marry you, Gale Dekarios."
He took me that same night, slow and deliberate, as if we had all the time in the world. As we laid in each other's arms, the the warm body next to mine, our intertwined hands, and synchronized breaths felt like an unbreakable bond, our future stretching out before us like an endless summer day. And through the days following the battle, it did. Helping reconstruct buildings, tending the wounded, and giving food and shelter to those in need; everything was keeping us so busy that I didn't notice the faraway look in his eyes. He still held me close at night, his touch as loving as ever, but something seemed to be weighing heavily on his mind.
One morning, exactly one week after the last battle, when my hand reached out instinctively to the side of the bed where Gale used to lay, I felt coldness that wasn't there before. The familiar scent of his cologne lingered in the air, but the silence revealed a very different reality. A heavy feeling settled in my chest as I tried to swallow down the lump in my throat. My eyes scanned our small tent frantically, searching for any sign of him, but all that remained was a single letter addressed to me. Its edges were slightly crumpled, evidence of many folds and unfolding during long nights. With trembling hands, I opened it and read every word carefully, trying to hold onto every piece of him that I could.
To my love
The crown is somewhere in the Chionthar. If I salvage the stones I can reforge it. Only then can I attain the power to protect us from all harm, my love. We could rule together, you as my goddess by my side as I ascend to godhood. I know I pledged to forsake my past for you, but now I must break that vow. The weight of this curse is too heavy for me to bear alone, and I cannot bear the thought of living with it forever. I need to confront her, to stand as her equal this time. I will do everything in my power to surpass her, to make up for all the wrongs she has done, even if it means leaving you behind. But you must understand that if I am successful, I will return to you and make up for all the time we have lost. Please hold onto hope and know that my heart aches with every step I take away from you.
Farewell, my love, until we can be reunited once again.
My tears turned into a relentless stream, blurring the words on Gale's letter as I read it for what felt like the hundredth time. Each phrase cut deeper than the last, carving painful wounds that would never heal. How could he do this to me? Betrayal and rage consumed me as I struggled to understand how the person who had asked me to marry him barely days before could turn their back on it for the sake of power and vengeance.
After that, everything became a blur. I found myself falling into a rhythm of constant busyness. I would wake up at the crack of dawn and immediately begin tackling the tasks that awaited me. And while it brought me some sense of fulfillment to help those in need, it also served as a convenient distraction from Gale's absence and his quest for power. If I kept myself busy enough, I wouldn't have time to dwell on my shattered relationship with Gale, on the nightmares that plagued my mind with the blood and death I had been through in the last year.
I had become known as the go-to person for any problem, big or small. I made sure to accept every task that came my way, no matter how difficult or time-consuming it may have been. Whether it was helping someone mend their broken roof or comforting a grieving family, I threw myself into each task with determination and purpose. But it wasn't just physical tasks that occupied my time. Many villagers would come to me seeking advice or simply wanting someone to listen to their troubles. And so, in addition to being their physical savior, I became their emotional support as well. For that brief moment when they smiled or thanked me for my help, all the weight on my shoulders lifted and for just a moment, everything felt okay again. Yet, behind my forced smile and empathetic words lay the reality of my shattered existence, haunted each night by the memories of my past as the darkness enveloped me.
Each night, I awoke drenched in sweat, my mind haunted by visions of cruel emperors, slaughtered gnomes, and fallen tieflings. The stench of death clung to me, as if the blood was still fresh on my hands. And the nightmare continued, as I woke up alone in a dirty basement, with no one to turn to. So it became my mission not to sleep; if I was busy and distracted, I didn't have time to think about Gale or death. And if my actions were making other people happy in the process, then everyone won.
However, as the days passed, I could feel myself becoming more and more distant from my friends. With Halsin, Wyll and Karlach gone, Lae'zel busy settling her people in the city, Shadowheart tirelessly rebuilding Selûne's temple, and Astarion retreating into the shadows, I felt completely alone. I found myself longing for their company, for the familiar banter and laughter we used to share. But every time I even attempted to reach out to them, something held me back. Maybe it was fear of being a burden or just not wanting to face my own emotions by confronting theirs. And even on those few occasions I did meet with Lae'zel or Shadowheart, I couldn't bring myself to tell them about Gale's letter or how much it hurt me because I couldn't bear to see their pity or judgment.
"He's just traveling. You know him, always seeking knowledge!" I lied through gritted teeth.
But deep down, I knew that the lie was eating away at my soul. The truth was too painful to voice out loud, even to my closest companions.
So, I buried my agony in feeling helpful, as I always did. I worked tirelessly to provide aid to those who had lost their homes and loved ones. I took on more tasks, stayed up later, and pushed myself beyond my limits. But it seemed like the harder I tried to deny my emotions, the louder they screamed for attention. My exhaustion finally caught up to me, both physically and mentally. One day, as I was helping a family rebuild their home after a devastating fire, I collapsed from exhaustion. The family helped me, of course, but word quickly spread that I had fallen ill. People began to avoid me, their once-welcoming demeanor turning cold and distant. They no longer sought out my help or accepted any aid I offered. This only added to my mounting frustration and despair, until finally, I reached my breaking point.
With nothing but time on my hands, the memories of Gale flooded back with a force that knocked me off balance. All those moments we shared flashed before my eyes in vivid detail – our first meeting on the portal, our adventures in the underdark, where we had first kissed, him asking to marry me... It was like ripping open an old wound that never fully healed. But even worse were the memories of slashing, cutting, severing flesh, of fresh blood and dead bodies. I needed another distraction; and that distraction came in the form of wine and rum. But even as I drowned my sorrows in ale, I knew it was a temporary escape. The sweet burn of alcohol numbed the pain for a little while, but it always came back tenfold once the drinks wore off. Before long, I found myself frequenting taverns more and more often. It was my new coping mechanism, my escape from reality. With each passing day, I could feel myself spiraling deeper into despair and self-pity.
One night, as I stumbled out of yet another tavern, swaying on unsteady legs, the piercing sound of my name being called cut through the fog of alcohol-induced numbness.
"Elara, what-?" The voice was familiar and filled with concern. "Oh gosh... he has left for good, hasn't he?" the tone was gentle but firm.
My dizzy eyes can make up a silver updo and tan skin. I take a deep breath, trying to steady myself as I glance over at Shadowheart. Her usually warm and welcoming expression was replaced by a mix of concern and disappointment.
I let out a bitter laugh before taking another swig of rum. "No shit," my words are slurred and barely coherent. "I can't believe you really bought into that whole traveling bullshit."
Shadowheart's expression shifts from concern to irritation as she leans closer to me. "Don't you dare mock me," she hisses. "You know as well as I do that something is wrong with you."
I smile grimly
"Oh, so now you care?" I say, trying to glare at Shadowheart through bleary eyes. "You have been away for months and it's only now you decide to play the savior card."
Shadowheart's expression darkened at my words, and I could see the hurt in her eyes. But I am too angry, too drunk, to care.
"Well, I'm doing just fine," I continue, taking another long sip of my drink. "So why don't you return to your temple or whatever shithole you came from and leave me alone."
She rolls her eyes.
"Yes. Of course, you're doing fine. You're so fine that I found you lying in a tavern, wallowing in self-pity, drunk off your ass. Clearly the picture of good health and sound mind."
I scoffed, staring at Shadowheart with glazed eyes. "What do you know about me? About what I've been through?" My words slurred together, fueled by the mixture of anger and alcohol coursing through my veins. "You think you can just waltz back into my life and judge me? Well, you can't. You have no idea what it feels like to be abandoned by the person you love."
Shadowheart's brows furrowed, her normally composed demeanor faltering for a moment. "I do know" she snapped "In fact, the person I love is all the way down in the freaking avernus!"
The word hung in the air between us, the weight of its significance crashing down on me like a heavy stone. I stare at Shadowheart, the alcohol dulling my senses but unable to numb the pang of guilt in my chest. She's right - I hadn't even considered what she must be going through, separated from Karlach.
"I'm sorry," I mumble, lowering my eyes in shame.
Shadowheart's expression softens slightly.
"It's alright. I know you're hurting." She pauses, choosing her next words carefully. "But drinking yourself to death won't make the pain go away. It will only make things worse."
I struggle to keep my mouth shut, but my stubbornness gets the best of me and I shake my head defiantly. "I don't care," I mutter through clenched teeth, taking another long sip of my drink. But deep down, I know that's a lie. All I want is to forget, but part of me knows that I can't just push these feelings away so easily.
Shadowheart sighs and reaches to grab my hand.
"Listen to me," she says firmly, looking me in the eyes with a determined gaze. "I know how hard this is for you. But you can't give up like this. We need you - your friends need you."
A surge of anger rises within me at her words, and I jerk my hand away from hers.
"Don't talk to me about friends," I snap bitterly. "Where were my friends when I needed them? Everyone left." I choke "Everyone always leaves."
Shadowheart's face creases "We were all dealing with grief in our own ways."
I scoff and take another gulp of my drink.
"Grief? Is that what you call it? How convenient."
Shadowheart's eyes narrow slightly at my accusation, but she keeps her composure. "I never abandoned you," she says firmly."None of us did. We were worried about you."
I let out a bitter laugh.
"Sure, you were all so worried."
After a long moment, she lets out an exhausted sigh, seemingly coming to terms with the fact that I will not budge on my decision. "You know what? Fine. Drink yourself into oblivion," she says with a resigned tone. "But just know that when you're ready to face reality, we'll be waiting." Slowly, she turns and leaves the dimly lit street.
----------------------------------------------
Several days later, I find myself in a similar situation, but at a different place. I wanted to ensure that none of the others will attempt to track me down. While Shadowheart's words still hangered in my mind, I couldn't help but feel shame at the person I have become. It was hard to admit that I needed their help. Accepting it would mean admitting defeat and acknowledging that I hit rock bottom. But the hardest part was accepting that Gale would never come back to me, enduring the nightmares without any ale to numb them.
I sit alone at a table in the corner, watching the other clients as they laugh and drink with their companions. I envy their untroubled attitude and wish I could join in on their happiness. But deep down, I know that my grief is consuming me.
A group of rowdy half-orcs stumble over to my table, clearly drunk and looking for trouble. I try to ignore them, hoping they will just pass by. But instead, they stop right beside me and leer down at me with malicious grins.
"Looks like we found ourselves a little present," one of them slurs, gesturing towards me with his mug.
Another one takes a step closer and smirks at my face, his breath reeking of alcohol. "Look at her, all alone and pathetic."
My hands grip the edge of the table tightly as I feel a surge of anger rising within me. If I had my magic... But I take a deep breath and try to keep my voice steady as I respond,"There is nothing here for you."
The orcs, however, don't seem to care about my words as they continue to make crude comments about my appearance.
"All those scars, what are you? A mercenary?" one of them snorts, taking another step closer.
I feel a lump form in my throat as I struggle to hold back tears. Normally, I would have stood up for myself or even fought back, but tonight I am too lost in my own misery to even react. Suddenly, one of them reaches out and grabs my arm forcefully, causing me to flinch in fear.
"Come on, babe," he slurs. "I'll make you forget all about your troubles."
I start to panic, my mind racing as I search for a way out of this situation.
But before things can escalate any further, a strong hand grabs one of the men's wrists and forcefully pulls him away from me.
I look up to see a familiar face - For a second, I think it's going to be Shadowheart again, a flash of ivory hair aprearing in the corner of my eye. But then I realize it's someone much, much worse.
"Leave her alone," he growls, his voice full of authority.
It seems like they want to replicate, but once they take a look at his bared fangs, the half-orcs hesitate for a moment before backing off and leaving the tavern with grumbles and curses. When he turns his head back to me, Astarion has his usual smirk plastered over his face.
"Hello, my dear" His sharp features and piercing eyes send a shiver down my spine. "I see you've fallen quite low since our last encounter."
"What do you want, Astarion?" I spit out through gritted teeth, still shaken. Yet another companion to make fun of my state. Great.
Astarion sits down across from me, still wearing his smirk. "Just curious to see how you were coping without your favorite vampire comrade," he taunts, taking a sip of his drink. "Not very well, by the looks of you." he comments, gesturing towards my disheveled appearance. I feel my cheeks flush with embarrassment as I try to smooth out my hair and straighten my clothes. This is not how I wanted to be seen by any of my friends, let alone Astarion.
"Whatever" I reply nonchalantly, "Did Shadowheart tell you to come here?"
Astarion smirks, knowing exactly how to push my buttons. "No, no, she didn't. I just happened to be in the area and thought I'd check up on my dear friend." His words drip with sarcasm.
I scoff and take another swig of my drink, trying to ignore him.
"But really," Astarion leans in closer. "What happened? One minute we're all fighting side by side, and the next, you're drowning yourself in ale."
I glared back at him, feeling defensive. "None of your damn business."
He leaned back with a smug grin. "Ah, but I think it is."
I let out an exasperated sigh and take another swig of my drink, hoping he'll get the hint and leave me alone. But as usual, Astarion seems to enjoy getting under my skin. He reaches across the table and grabs my drink before I can protest.
"Hey!" I try to grab it back but he holds it out of reach.
"No more drinking for you," he says with a mock stern expression. "Now tell me what's going on."
"Thank you for your concern, but I'm fine." I say, trying to dismiss the conversation.
Astarion's eyes narrow as he studies me intently. "Fine? You look like you've been through hell." he states bluntly.
I sigh and run a hand through my hair again, feeling a sense of exhaustion wash over me. Maybe it's because of everything that has happened in the past few days or maybe it's just the alcohol finally catching up to me.
I glare daggers at him and finally relent with a heavy sigh. "Fine. Gale...he's gone."
"Gone?" Astarion's eyebrows raise in surprise. "As in dead?"
I shake my head sadly. "No...just...gone." My voice cracks on the last word and I have to take a deep breath to compose myself.
A look of understanding crosses Astarion's face and he nods slowly. "Well, it looks like he really went all in on his illusions this time."
I sigh, in no mood for jesting.
Astarion, sensing my lack of humor, leans back in his chair and adopts a more serious expression. "I'm sorry for your loss," he says sincerely, sliding my drink back across the table towards me.
I reluctantly take the drink and give him a nod of acknowledgment, appreciating his rare display of empathy."Thank you," I reply, my voice softening slightly. "I appreciate that."
He nods, seemingly lost in thought for a moment before speaking again. "Although, you know, at the end of the day it's Gale we are talking about, so is it really that big of a loss?"
I roll my eyes at Astarion's insensitive comment. "He was still a good boyfriend, despite his flaws," I reply pointedly.
"Hmm..." Astarion seems to be pondering this before shrugging nonchalantly. "Well, if you say so."
I take a deep breath and try to calm myself down before continuing. "Anyway, what do you want from me? You always have an ulterior motive for your visits"
Astarion smirks again, leaning back in his chair. "You know me so well," he drawls sarcastically. "I actually came here with an interesting proposition."
I raise an eyebrow skeptically. "What kind of proposition?"
He smirks, "You see, even though I excel at pretty much everything, it appears I'm struggling with the... spawn issue, if you know what I mean." He pauses dramatically, waiting for my reaction. "And being the hero that you are," he continues with a hint of condescension, "I was wondering if you could grace me with your whole knight in shining armor wisdom and help me out. Not that I actually need it, mind you. I just think even someone as skilled as myself needs guidance in this kind of situations." He leans back in his chair, with a relaxed smile.
"No"
His face falls dramatically. "What? What do you mean no?"
I roll my eyes.
"I mean exactly what I said," I reply firmly, not breaking eye contact with Astarion. "I have no interest in being your 'knight in shining armor' or helping you with any spawn issues. Find someone else to pester."
Astarion's face falls at my immediate rejection, but he quickly composes himself and leans forward with a suave smile. "Come on, darling," he purrs, reaching out to touch my hand. "Think of the thrill, the excitement of facing such a challenge together."He pauses and adds "just like the old times."
A wave of emotion washes over me at the mere thought. Memories of the past flood my mind, when Gale's presence provided a comforting weight on my side. When our group was at its strongest and most united, standing together against all odds. When everything seemed so easy, so at reach.
I reply with a bitter tone, "Those days are gone for good."
Astarion groans "Gosh, will you stop being so dramatic."
I raise an eyebrow at that. He is one to talk.
Astarion chuckles at my eyebrow raise, a playful glint in his eyes. "Touché, my dear." he admits. "But I'm serious about this, you know. We make a great team, you and I. And who knows, maybe hunting down vampire spawn will help distract you from your... sorrows."
I sigh, torn between the desire to wallow in my grief and the possibility of finding some kind of purpose again. I will admit, weeping and drinking myself to sleep every night does, while comforting, sounds sad. Plus, Astarion's proposition is tempting. At least that way I will have something other than ale to distract myself with.
"Fine," I finally relent, surprising both him and myself. "But Just because I'm agreeing to this doesn't mean I have forgotten you haven't reached out in months."
Astarion's smirk widens as he raises an eyebrow mockingly. "Oh, I would never dream of such a thing," he says with exaggerated sincerity."But let's just say, I did save your sorry behind from those hideous orcs. So I'd say we're even now."
I roll my eyes at his theatrics but can't help feeling a glimmer of anticipation deep within me. Perhaps there is still some fight left in me after all.
With a clap of his hands, he exclaims triumphantly,"It's decided then, dear Elara. You'll join me at the Crimson Palace tomorrow. I've already arranged for a room for you here," he says smoothly. "And trust me, it's much more luxurious than any tent or tavern room you've ever stayed in."
My brows furrow
"Absolutely not. I refuse to live in that sinister place." I say firmly. "Much less if it's with you"
Astarion lets out a dramatic sigh. "Oh, of course not. Because living alone in a moldy, cramped basement beneath the barracks is much more appealing."
I narrow my eyes at him suspiciously. It almost sounds like he's been planning this for a while now.
"Wait, what? How do you even..." And then, I know. "Shadowheart told you, didn't she? Is there anything she didn't tell you? That damned snitch."
Astarion chuckles at my outburst and shrugs nonchalantly. "She may have mentioned it," he admits with a sly grin."She has always been keen on gossip, after all."
I let out an exasperated sigh and shake my head.
Astarion grins, his red eyes sparkling with amusement "You can't expect me to trust you to do a good job while out of my sight. I mean, from what I see now, you could scape at any moment to get drunk and pass out in the street. And then, what good would that do to our poor spawn?" He says, pretending to be deeply worried.
I roll my eyes and cross my arms defensively. "Fine," I huff. "You win. I'll stay at the Crimson Palace, but only because it's the best option for the spawn."
Astarion raises an eyebrow in mock surprise. "Oh, so you do care about the spawn after all? I'm touched," he says sarcastically.
I shoot him a glare, and he relents with a smirk.
"Alright, alright. Enjoy your drinking session then. But don't forget, tomorrow we have important responsibilities."
"Ah yes, the joys of parenthood" I say sarcastically.
And to my surprise, I don't even finish my drink before returning to my basement, finally having something to look forward to.

Day 5: Sahadeva and Draupadi
Smarane
The thing about grief was that it was unpredictable in its arrival and impossibly stubborn to contain. It could be brought on with a single touch, a glance, a word spoken at an inopportune moment; the world itself became a source of endless despair, supplying one with tantalizing glimpses of those who would never return and yet, had left their marks on it, however glorious or slight they may have been.
The night jasmine blossoms had been Dhrishtadyumna's favorite flowers, simply because, as he'd told Sahadev, they bloomed in all their glory as the entire world slept, uncaring that the best of their beauty would forever be veiled from all.
Not unexpectedly then, he had found his wife silently staring at the heaps of garlands made of those very flowers, ready to be offered in prayer.
Her eyes were swollen at places, having taken on a worrying bloody hue, and tears brimmed freely in them, large translucent pearls that ripped away at his heart.
He quietly made his way upto her, pressing down lightly on her shoulders so as to not startle her when he spoke.
"You can have them removed, if you want, you know? They are not the only flowers for the puja."
"No," she insisted. "Let them be. Sometimes, it's good to be reminded of him."
He wondered sometimes if the joy of remembering a golden past was worth the pain returning to a present as bleak as theirs?
"How do you do it?" He whispered, settling down next to her, close enough to wipe the tears off her face. "Where do you find the strength?"
Grief was no stranger to him, it was the steadfast companion of his nights and days. you life had been marked by death long before a child his age should have understood it. The losses were almost common amongst the six of them, of parents and children, of friends and relations.
But atleast he had been spared his brothers, the only constants of his otherwise fitful life; atleast he had never faced a world where half his soul had been scattered across the rivers of the old.
(The visions of that horrible day years ago floated upto the surface of his memories and a sharp thorn of pain took root in his chest- the sight of the corpse of the brother who held the keys to his happiness in every little gesture of fraternal affection; of the entreaties that had for the first time, fallen on utterly deaf ears; of the stark, all consuming pain that had come with it, robbing him of even the coherence of his thoughts.
No, he refused to think of it.)
She had not been as fortunate. In the stroke of a single night, almost everyone that she'd ever loved had been ripped away from her, carried of to the realms that lay beyond their comprehension.
"My brother deserves better than to be remembered only through records and genealogies while I live and breathe," she whispered right back at him, absently fiddling with the flowers that had been deemed too damaged for the garlands. "Wouldn't you do that for yours?"
He usually liked to think through every question before he answered, turning it around in his head till he had covered all possibilities. But one only thought about the answers to hypotheticals, not about the abject reality that he had been subjected to, however blessedly ephemeral it had been.
"I would not need to," he answered. "I'd not survive it."
It was the truth, he had not survived it, not truly.
She looked at him a long monent, eyes coming back into focus rapidly as her hands came to rest on his, fingers intertwining in a desperate move to stay afloat in a sea of sorrow.
"What about the children, then? Do you have the strength to remember them?"
How could he not remember them, the boys who had delighted their hearts, filled them with pride and then left them utterly empty, with empty spaces where their vibrance had made home.
"Long as I live, I promise they'll not be forgotten. They will remain the boys we'd loved with all our beings. I'll not have them be reduced to simple stories without souls, to mere footnotes in the grand history our clan."
The future wasn't his to regulate, never would be, but the present would be kind to his sons if he had any say in the matter.

As the weight of Siderio's accusations settles over the crowd, leaving a palpable tension hanging in the air, Camilo's voice suddenly pierces the silence, a beacon of defiance in the face of despair. "Let her go, Siderio!" he demands, his tone brimming with a mix of anger and desperation. His posture is one of unwavering determination, even as the rain lashes down around them, leaving him soaked but undeterred.
Siderio's gaze shifts towards Camilo, his expression one of disdain as he spits out, "Oh, you, the shapeshifter." He eyes Camilo with a dismissive sneer, his voice dripping with contempt. "I don't know why you bother. You don't know her like I do, her soul inside and out. You're nothing but a nuisance. Give up," he commands, waving Camilo off as if he were an insignificant obstacle.
But Camilo stands his ground, the resolve in his eyes unshaken. "That's not true!" he retorts, his voice rising above the storm's fury. "And she won't give up, not as long as we're here for her!" His declaration is more than a challenge; it's a promise, an oath made in the face of an enemy who seeks to dismantle everything they hold dear.
The townspeople, witnessing this exchange, find themselves caught between fear and hope, the courage of a young Madrigal igniting a flicker of unity among them.
Camilo's refusal to back down, to cede ground to the specter that has taken you from them, serves as a rallying cry, a reminder that the strength of Encanto lies not in individual gifts but in the bonds that tie them together.
Siderio's scowl deepens, the red glow in his eyes intensifying as he realizes that Camilo's resolve, and the growing solidarity among the onlookers, poses a threat to his plans.
Yet, in this moment of confrontation, it's clear that Camilo's words have struck a chord, challenging the narrative of division and highlighting the power of collective hope and resilience.
The Madrigals, united in purpose if not in method, encircle you, their faces etched with concern and determination. At the forefront is Camilo, his usual playfulness replaced by a fierce resolve.
It's clear that whatever happens next, the path to freeing you from Sidero's grasp will not be easy nor without risk.
Camilo steps forward, his voice steady yet filled with warmth. "Sidero, I know you're angry, and you have every right to be. But this... this isn't the way," he implores, his words reaching out not just to the spirit possessing you but to the pain and resentment that fueled his actions.
Your father, standing alongside the Madrigals, adds his voice to Camilo's plea. "Please, let my child go. We can find another way to honor your memory and the pain of those you wanted to save."
As Camilo's words hang in the air, a palpable tension grips the crowd, their collective breath held in anticipation of Siderio's response.
The spirit, harboring decades of resentment and sorrow, teeters on the edge of unleashing a wrath that could devastate Encanto and its inhabitants.
Yet, it's then, in the midst of this standoff, that you, trapped within the confines of your own mind yet somehow more present than ever, reach out to Siderio with a plea of your own. "Siderio, please," your voice, a whisper in the storm, imbued with the memories of a bond forged in the aftermath of loss.
A memory unfolds, a scene from a time when the world seemed too vast and your grief too deep.
You were just seven, the pain of your mother's passing a constant echo in your heart. Beneath the sapling that Isabela had grown in her memory, you sat, a small figure engulfed by sorrow.
It was there Siderio found you, his presence a silent offer of companionship in your solitude.
"Hello, chiquita," his voice, gentle, a contrast to the turmoil within you.
"Hi, Siderio," your response, muted, bereft of its usual vibrancy.
In the quiet shadow of the sapling, you looked up at Siderio, his form less intimidating in the shared silence of grief. "How do you deal with missing them?" you asked, your voice barely above a whisper, curiosity and sorrow mingling in your young eyes.
Siderio floated closer, his spectral presence somehow comforting in the moment. "I talk to them," he began, his voice carrying a wistful tone. "I tell them about my day, my fears, and my hopes. It's as if they're still here with me... listening."
Your eyes widened, a sense of wonder replacing the initial sadness. "Can we make a promise?" you ventured, the idea forming as the words spilled out. "To always be there for each other, even if you're... not really here?"
Siderio's ethereal form seemed to brighten, a smile tugging at the corners of his ghostly visage. "I would like that very much, chiquita."
Encouraged, you extended your pinky, a universal gesture of trust and friendship among children. "Let's pinky promise then," you declared, a smile breaking through your sorrow.
Siderio, amused and touched by the gesture, attempted to wrap his own translucent pinky around yours. But as his hand phased through yours, a soft chuckle escaped him. "It seems we'll have to find another way to seal our promise," he said, the humor in the situation not lost on either of you.
The air around you seems to thicken, a visible manifestation of Sidero wrestling with the emotions these appeals stir within him. For a moment, it seems as if nothing will change, that the grip of vengeance is too strong to break. But then, something remarkable happens.
A soft, almost imperceptible glow begins to emanate from within you, a light that grows steadily in intensity until it fills the entire square.
It's the magic of the Encanto, but it's different somehow—infused with empathy, understanding, and a deep, abiding love. It's the collective will of the Madrigals and the townspeople, their desire for peace and reconciliation made manifest.
As the light surrounds you, you feel the oppressive weight of Sidero's presence begin to lessen, his hold on you weakening as he's confronted with the realization that revenge will not heal the wounds of the past. In this light, he sees not enemies but people willing to acknowledge his pain, to offer solace and understanding.
"Sidero, it's time to let go," you find yourself saying, your voice clear and strong, free from the influence that had silenced you. "Let us help you find peace."
There's a moment of resistance, a final, futile attempt to cling to the anger that had defined Sidero's existence for so long. But then, as if exhaling a breath he'd been holding for years, Sidero relents.
The red in your eyes fades, replaced once again by their natural hue, as the spirit's essence lifts from your body, coalescing into a form that stands before you.
Sidero, now visibly at peace, nods in understanding and gratitude. "Thank you," he whispers, his voice echoing with the weight of unshed tears and unspoken apologies.
With one last look, a silent farewell to you and those who had stood by your side, he turns and steps into the light, his form dissolving until nothing remains but a gentle breeze that caresses your cheek like a benediction.
As consciousness gently pulls you back from the brink of darkness, the first thing you notice is the warmth enveloping you, a stark contrast to the cold grip of the void you've just returned from.
Your eyes flutter open, struggling against the brightness of the world you're re-entering. And there, looming into your blurry vision, is Camilo's face, etched with lines of worry and relief. His green eyes, usually dancing with mischief, now shimmer with unspoken concern.
"There she is," he murmurs, his voice a soothing balm to the chaos that had just ensued in your mind. His hand, warm and reassuring, caresses the apple of your cheek, grounding you to the here and now.
Despite the whirlwind of emotions, a small smile finds its way to your lips, a silent thank you for his presence, for being your anchor in the storm.
He helps you sit up, his hands steady and gentle, and before you can fully orient yourself, you're enveloped in another embrace.
This one's different; it's filled with a familiar warmth, a protective strength that you've known all your life. Your father's arms wrap around you, his body trembling with a mix of fear and relief.
"Muñequita, I was so worried," he whispers, his voice thick with emotion. You can feel his breath shudder as he exhales, a father's relief at seeing his child safe. The term of endearment, one he's used since you were a child, feels like a lifeline, pulling you further away from the darkness that had threatened to consume you.
"I'm sorry, Papa," you manage to say, your voice a mere whisper as you cling to him. The apology is for the scare you've given him, for the moments of terror he must have felt watching you collapse, a pawn in a game played by forces beyond your understanding.
But in this moment, as you sit there surrounded by the people who mean the world to you, you realize the strength of the bonds that tie you to this life. Camilo's unwavering support, your father's unconditional love—these are the beacons that guide you back, time and again, from the brink.
As you look around, taking in the faces of the Madrigals and the townspeople gathered around, you see not just concern but a shared resolve. This experience, terrifying though it was, has only served to strengthen the ties that bind you to your community, to the magic that flows through Encanto.
The ordeal with Sidero, the journey through darkness to bring light to a tormented soul, has left its mark on you, but it has also revealed the depth of your own strength and the unbreakable bonds of family and friendship.
And as you sit there, nestled in the safety of your father's embrace, with Camilo's hand in yours, you know that no matter what challenges may come, you're not alone. Together, you've faced the darkness and emerged stronger for it.
This moment, a quiet pause in the aftermath of turmoil, is a testament to the power of love and the unyielding spirit of those who stand together in the face of adversity.
And as you finally let go of the fear and the apologies, you allow yourself to lean into the love and support that surrounds you, ready to face whatever the future holds, together.

A/N: this book is like my lil baby can't believe i finished it🥹🥹🥹 edit: also wanna apologize for the rushed end i just kinda lost inspiration for the 'encanto' aspect and didn't want to diverge from the cutsy storyline--my plot for this went real dark and needed a better setting up... one day i may retry this but until then, thank you babies ❤️

413) Reponse
I respond
Oh, Love, I will help you breathe
I will give you all the time that ticks down
Within this deserted frame
Are you claiming to beg for my love?
You know, this is the only time we've talked this week?
How many times have I dreamt of you?
How many times did I wake up before my alarms
And look for signs of you?
How many times did I witness your ghost pass through?
I was waiting for a word or promise of acknowledgment
That you weren't sick of my existence
How awful, to wait on the outside
Of the one you'd give your whole life
You would never have to beg for my love
I give it to you in every moment
All you need is to exist, fool.
I'd love to fill that void in you
Run my fingers through your hair
Lovely woman,
You believe you are good for nothing?
Have you not seen your worth
In the lightning against my skin?
In the way you make me strive
To be better than I was yesterday?
I want to be good to you in every way.
I want to hold you and hear your dreams
I will bring them to light and nurture the seeds
You are worth the weight of the world.
You are the span of the sky.
You need not calculate your quality
I love you with only what you've had since birth
Just yourself and nothing else.
I only want to hold you aloft
And support you as you grow
While you do the same to me
Don't you know?
A grayscale fire?
You feel only empty desires?
I don't push you to want to be better?
Am, I simply empty and nothing?
My friend told me last night
I should have come to an epiphany
A reason to leave you behind.
I could only think of reasons to fight
He called me a narcissist
I have only felt like I was on the outside
A spectator
But perhaps I was willing to expand
My ego for you
I want to be the one you choose
I want to be the best for you
No vibrancy?
What of this cardboard cutout I live in?
A wild fire?
The vodka in my stomach begs to glisten
I am hesitant, too.
You fear to ruin me?
What have you done so far, Baby?
We share a love sprawling 'cross the sea
Darling, you're the one.
Come to my arms and find my warmth
I will never relinquish this lighthouse
I will hold you like sunbeams
I will part the clouds to guide your way
I am selfish
A narcissist
I am made of ego
It is all I have left to find control.
Should I let you go?
Relinquish the soul?
I want to guide you to the shore
I want to be your brimming core
Let me be bright through rain and fog
Let you find these arms of mine
I will never let you fall.
Yes, a coward perhaps
But, I have known cowardice like a friend
We have become close in these moments
Even now, I fear what will happen
Should we part.
I chose to abandon cowardice
When I gave you all of my heart
I find I am still afraid
Isn't that what love is?
To take a leap of faith?
I become vulnerable
I am a man made of paper
Witness the rain threaten me
I will stand tall for you
Square my shoulders and smile
Leave your ink on my skin
Show me even paper subsists
Show me this love can win.
You can do more than flee
We collide in harmony
You can always choose to love me
I want you to wear my ring
This is all life has for us
The end is always near
We know not the weeks we have
There isn't enough left
So, won't you make time for me?
I have lost all control, dreamy.
I give in to gravity
I spiral to your soul
I choose you
Choose me back
Which one of us is the heart attack?
Decide! Lovebug, Decide!
You fear the rest of your life?
Then it's time to make a change?
Or accept that it'll never go away.
You coward!
Become that which you crave deeply!
Follow the truth of your heart!
I care not for the result!
What does the breadth of your soul tell you?
Should you have one life, would you maintain course?
Should you die tomorrow, would you drown in regret?
I only long to fight for your hand.
I know I'm doing all I can.
How can I show you that I am?
You make me want to be a better man.
A worthy sculpture!
Worthy of being beautiful!
I want to be what you make me feel!
For you, my life and love congeal!
You feel no worth? What of me?
How can I compare to electricity?
It pains me to fight for you
Either you are incompatible
Or you can be happy, there
I want the love you choose to win
You deserve to live
To live!
Does he satisfy you?
Is there a void to fill?
If you despise this life,
There is still time to change it.
Fight for yourself, Love.
Oh, how dreadfully I want you to be happy
Don't give in to complacency
I know, ruthlessly, how that can be ugly
Even if it is not me
I want you to be happy.
Do not waste your time empty!
I cannot always fight for a woman
Who does not choose me.
I was a man of stagnancy
Oh I hope you find the full
I hope you find the full
With or without me
But oh gods, I hope it's lovely
Tell me you don't belong to me, Lovebug
Tell me it isn't me.
Are we alike?
Often I fear we are one and the same
That's what makes us collapse together
Like stars discovering their origins
If I try all that I can to be in your hand
What could I regret of this life?
All you can do is run?
You fight gravity, stupid girl
Collapse into my arms
Do you not find home, there?
I choose to lose control
I give in to gravity.
We are made of the same star.
I am afraid since the day we met
I will never be in control again
I collapse into you
Every time we orbit
Because you are all I desire
That is all I can do.
This is the reason of my creation
You are my origin
Am I yours?
You are the point of my collapse
Drive me beyond the borders of starlight
Marry me, Lovebug.
My body craves only your celestial company.
I fear that we fight our nature
To wind up in orbit, together.
I accept that for you,
I am not in control.
My friend told me I did a shitty thing
He knows I become like my parents
He is afraid to come home to a dead body
What would I do?
I'd do it all again, of course.
I double down
There is no growth
We are two who share a soul.
How could I fight the love we hold?
You and me, growing old.
You are selfish?
Hear what I tell him!
He told me to let you go!
I doubled down!
I don't care about the ruin
Only you and I
I am the villain
A good man gone bad.
He is concerned about my viewpoint
I can only think of you as mine.
I am rotten for you.
I am willing to crack the sky.
To bite the apple of Eden.
I will do anything to be by your side.
What about me?
My anger?
My empty?
Today, I thought to become fury
Lovebugs become locusts
The famine approaches
They crawl in my brain like a plague
Every day without your voice
I feel I am left without a choice
You push. I pull.
What can make us equal?
This week I feel as though you pull away from me
I must push, in fear of what trying to pull you back will do
I want to fight for you
To chase you
But am I not worthy of the same?
I try to ignore you, I'm ambushed
Must I force myself to become bristling thorns?
Adorn myself with scorn
In order to prepare
For you to leave
I preemptively grieve
What more can I do to save me?
How many poems did I write today
About false attempts to hate you
I wish I could hate you
I make my shadow large
But I am meek like crumbs
Crumble me beneath your thumb
You consume my every thought
You leave me, alone, to rot
I want to be angry
I love you,
Please don't save me
You are in everything I do
I wait for countless dreams to come true.
You grieve for what you haven't held?
What you haven't tried to truly hold?
Everyday you choose otherwise
Than to give me what you have of time
You mourn what you choose to lose?
What's there left to prove?
I fear I am just something to fill a void
A toy to exploit
A thirst to enjoy
I want to be your only choice
I never claimed to be otherwise
Stupid, I cling to delusions
A fleeting hope that you will
Discover me to be your goal
Brainless, yes
No matter the duress
I confess
You, I can't suppress
I am not a smart man
I only try to be good
How long will you remain?
How long will you mourn?
Take my hand into yours
How they glide together like two crescents
So smoothly
It does not make this easy
Choose me.
I am the brightest star?
How can my shine reach the surface?
Stuck beneath the dirt and worms
Without the touch of heaven
Your celestial body evades me
I cannot engulf you from here
You keep getting further
One by one,
I watch the stars disappear
I am no knight
I fight to have you and nothing less
I am a rival king
I stake my claim to the throne
Let me sit by your side
Let me call you home
If I am angry
Perhaps I can prepare
For the apocalypse to come
Yes, Lovebug, I am scared
You're with him
I'm not there
You grieve?
What of me?
You have him
I have the empty, starless sea.
I hope it is enough for us both.
Sometimes I fear you are simply afraid to take the leap
To find yourself fall into me.
Too afraid of the consequences
Yet you feel empty
Do I not help?
Will you go through the rest of your life like this?
Will you not follow your heart?
I give in to gravity
You, fight with distance
Perhaps you will pull out of orbit.
You choose to want what you have
More than this
This is not about your beauty
It's about
YOU
All that you are
It matters not if it's easy
After a decade
I exist
Only to see you leave me.
How kind these words you say
Act on them, won't you?
All bark
No bite
Those big teeth end up
Rather shy
Grip me with thirsty canines
How can I believe in this?
You let the love resist
I want to feel your lips against mine
Time
I want the rest of your time
I am not in control
I give in to gravity
I only dream for you and me.

Ways to Spend an Ideal 24 Hours within Istanbul
Feel Istanbul city’s real essence within a mere 24 hours at these unmissable places,
Grand Bazaar
Tumblr media
No expedition to Istanbul is ever complete devoid of surveying the celebrated Grand Bazaar. The cacophonous cries of traders, the smell of leather, as well as the blinding array of rugs & jewelry constitute a sensory overload. With or without much time, getting lost in its labyrinthine alleys, haggling, and getting into the chaos will become a cherished experience.
Grand Spice Bazaar
If you have got a day in Istanbul, stopover at the flavorful Spice Bazaar. The air is perfumed with spices, assorted dried fruit, and refreshing Turkish tea. Colorful stalls brim with red chili, bright yellow turmeric, and mild-scented herbs. A brief visit dips you into Istanbul's wonderful food culture.
Blue Mosque
Tumblr media
Surveying the pretty Blue Mosque is a must within the schedule of 24 hours. Its minarets domineer the sky, as incense scent wafts lightly through the air. Soft chatter fills the courtyard, heightening the peace around. Rejuvenations notwithstanding, its splendor glows with sunlight permeating beautiful stained glass windows. Be it 24 hours or even an extensive 5-day Istanbul itinerary, observing this beauty is a must.
Hagia Sophia
Entering Hagia Sophia is a prized experience of crossing through time. The reverberations of the Byzantine chants remain, and the chill carries a spiritual mystique. Mosaics golden in hue convey stories of gone-by empires, and the top galleries reveal pictorial vistas. Tombs of Ottoman sultans act as somber indicators of the chronicles within.
Basilica Cistern
The Basilica Cistern is akin to an underground fantasy world. Chilly, moist air permeates the cavern as water bounces softly off massive columns. Fish swim through ghostly reflections, casting a mystical mood. The inverted Medusa head brings a mythological touch, so it is among the most intriguing things to do in Istanbul.
Topkapi Palace
Tumblr media
Stepping through Topkapi Palace is like entering into a sphere of history and splendor. Jasmine scent wafts from the gardens, and in the distance, the Bosporus glints. Lavishly tiled rooms and ornate courtyards carry you back to another time, the harem a glimpse of a mysterious, lavish past.
Cagaloglu Hamam
A trip to a primeval style hamam is a sensory adventure in recreation and warmth; a must-stopover in Istanbul for first-timers. Steam envelopes you in a warm hug, and eucalyptus and soap permeate the atmosphere. Icy marble flooring complements the warmth, pounding scrubbing leaves you feeling rejuvenated, and a glass of honeyed tea wraps things up.
Golden Horn
The Golden Horn mingles the salty air with the smell of freshly grilled fish from boats alongside the shore. Sailing on the gorgeous Bosporus, the wind whips by as the sun dips the water orange and pink. In this quiet moment, the minarets afar rise tall, providing a tranquil reprieve from the city's hum.
Galata Tower & Bridge
The Galata Tower sight is eye-catching. Sea air carries the vibrancy of the city, traffic rumbles beneath, and Bosporus glitters in the sunlight. Seagulls scream in the distance as Istanbul spreads out below you. It is just the right spot to absorb the horizon on your intended Istanbul itinerary for 24 hours.
Hookah Cafes
Tophane’s hookah cafes present a comforting retreat in which the aroma of sweet apple and mint hangs in the air. The gentle gurgle of nargileh is accompanied by the echo of locals chatting while playing backgammon over some nice Turkish coffee. In the vicinity, the Kılıç Ali Pasha Mosque, along with the Tophane Fountain, contributes to the area’s timelessness.
Wrapping Up
Istanbul might be enormous, but even within a mere 24 hours, voyagers can feel its pure magic. Right from the Hagia Sophia's structural grandeur and the mesmerizing Blue Mosque up to the packed bazaars and quiet Bosporus sights, the entire city has a tale to share. Whether you are dining on scrumptious Turkish delights, comforting in a celebrated hamam, or witnessing dusk over the pretty Golden Horn, every moment is etched in one's remembrance. For an unperturbed experience, look into the finest Istanbul holiday packages to maximize your whirlwind tour.

This Christmas, I found myself once again diving headfirst into the world of digital art. It’s becoming a tradition for me—creating festive-themed artwork that captures the magic of the season. This time, I participated in another draw-this-in-your-style challenge, hosted by Alix_M_P. I’ve always admired the creativity that comes with these challenges, and this one was no different. The original design was so beautiful and joyful that I couldn’t wait to give it my touch. The result? A vibrant piece featuring a girl in a stunning red Christmas dress, surrounded by the warm and glowing cheer of the season.
The character herself is a perfect embodiment of Christmas joy and elegance. Her infectious smile lights up her face, her soft pink lips curved in a way that immediately draws you in. Her wide, sparkling blue eyes are alive with excitement, and they shine with a crystalline brilliance that reminds me of freshly fallen snow under a winter sun. Her cheeks have a slight rosy tint, as though kissed by the winter cold or the warm glow of a crackling fireplace. A small red heart sits playfully just below her right eye, adding an extra touch of charm and personality to her cheerful expression.
Her hair is captivating—a cascade of deep, dark blue locks that flow in soft waves and twin braids. The two small buns atop her head, secured by little twists, give her a playful and whimsical look, while the braids add a touch of neatness and grace. Nestled in her hair is a sprig of bright green holly with plump red berries, a festive accent that ties her entire look together.
Now, her dress—what a masterpiece! It’s the kind of gown that belongs at a grand Christmas celebration. The deep red fabric is rich and elegant, with a flowing, voluminous skirt that seems to swirl around her as though caught in a gentle dance. The dress features soft yellow frills along the off-shoulder neckline and cuffs, adding a touch of festive lightness. A crimson ribbon tied into a bow rests at her neck, perfectly matching the Christmas aesthetic and highlighting her graceful shoulders. The bodice has delicate laces crisscrossing down the front, enhancing the fit and giving it a classic, vintage look. Around her waist sits a large golden bow, cinched perfectly, giving the dress a regal touch while accentuating her silhouette.
The background complements her vibrancy, filled with the magic of Christmas. Behind her, a warmly lit fireplace crackles with an orange glow, casting light and shadows across the scene. A beautifully decorated Christmas tree stands in the corner, adorned with glowing lights, red ribbons, and shimmering ornaments that add to the festive mood. The whole atmosphere feels alive—warm, cosy, and brimming with holiday cheer, like a scene from a Christmas storybook.
As I worked on this piece, I took my time with every detail—from the gentle shine in her hair to the folds and movement in her dress. I wanted to capture her festive spirit as accurately as possible, ensuring that she not only looked beautiful but also radiated the joy and magic of Christmas. It felt like I was crafting a character straight from a winter wonderland, someone who would spread cheer wherever she went.
Finishing this artwork gave me such a sense of satisfaction. There’s something special about creating art that celebrates the season, and this piece, inspired by Alix_M_P’s design, is one I’m truly proud of. It’s a reminder of how art can bring people together—how one artist’s vision can inspire others to create something equally heartfelt and beautiful. As I signed the piece and admired the final result, I felt that familiar warmth of Christmas creativity once again. This artwork, for me, is not just an entry for a challenge—it’s a celebration of the season, of creativity, and of the joy we share when we come together as artists.

Major Study: Digital Media Art
Week 1: Laying the Foundation – Modelling the Truck
Week 1 has been all about laying the foundation for my truck model, marking the beginning of an exciting journey filled with challenges and growth. As I delved into the intricate world of 3D modelling, the first critical step was to bring to life the fundamental shapes that would eventually define the essence of the truck - the chassis, cab, and trailer intricately interwoven. Skilfully manoeuvring through Blender's versatile tools, I meticulously sketched out the initial dimensions, meticulously ensuring the accuracy of proportions that would serve as the backbone for the entire project. The reliance on real truck reference images and blueprints proved to be indispensable in attaining a deep understanding of the varied part sizes - from the cab's relative positioning to the trailer's length, to the wheels' diameter in proportion to the chassis height, each aspect meticulously aligned to mirror reality, fostering not just realism but also functionality within the project's narrative arc.
Transitioning from the foundational shapes marked the dawn of refining the intricate details that would breathe life into the truck model. Amidst the intricate dance of adding recognizably detailed components, such as windows, doors, mirrors, and wheels, I found myself meticulously navigating the delicate balance between meticulous detailing and structural integrity. Challenges disguised as opportunities emerged, emphasizing the pivotal importance of preserving the model's geometry amidst the lure of intricate embellishments. The venturing into challenging territories, such as the minutiae of the front grille and headlights, demanded a delicate touch to ensure that complexity did not compromise the model's overall coherence, underscoring the essence of balance and precision in 3D modelling craftsmanship.
In the arsenal of my creative journey, Blender emerged as a steadfast ally, offering a plethora of indispensable features that seamlessly transitioned me from initial blockouts to finessed refinements. The boon of working with multiple layers within Blender empowered me to navigate through distinct components of the truck model, ensuring meticulous detailing without disturbing the holistic vision. An integral component of the creative process was the adept utilization of modifiers, notably the Mirror and Subdivision Surface modifiers. The Mirror modifier emerged as a beacon of symmetry, a guiding light that ensured harmonious design in areas like the cab and wheels, while the Subdivision Surface modifier lent a touch of polished realism with its ability to sculpt smooth, curved surfaces, evoking a sense of authenticity and refinement within the model.
As the first week drew to a close, I reflected on the journey thus far, brimming with a sense of accomplishment and the thirst for more. The challenges encountered served as crucibles of learning, emphasizing the significance of meticulous planning and precision in the intricate art of 3D modelling. With each passing day, the vision of the truck model grew clearer in my mind, beckoning me to further refine its essence, from the intricate details of the interior components to the vibrant textures that would infuse it with a lifelike vibrancy, a testament to the boundless possibilities that lie ahead in the horizon of creativity and craftsmanship.

Class Assignment - Motion Graphics and Visual Language
Pick a title sequence from Art of Title. Analyse the visual elements within the title sequence.
Create a board and presentation of this analysis.
Monsters Inc Title Sequence
The first ever 2D sequence for a Pixar film.
The main gateway between the monster world and human world are the doors. Title Designer Geefwee Boedoe wanted to focus on this aspect of the title sequence. The sequence is simple, but brimming with vibrance and colour.
The music for the title sequence was composed by Randy Newman.
The sequence was inspired by title sequences of live action movies in the '50s and '60s, such as the very famous The Pink Panther (1963) title sequence.
The sequence uses a mid-century modern graphic art style, making it appear slick, upbeat, and lighthearted. This sets the tone for the rest of the film, which is a family friendly comedy.
Geefwee worked in many aspects of the pre-production process that informed how he designed the title sequence -  "I worked on that film doing all kinds of pre-production designing. I did story work, I did design work, I did both character designs and environment designs, and then overseeing and designing the title sequence. I often would do storyboards as well."
The entire sequence was made using paper. Geefwee was a traditional artist, and as such was used to physically drawing, painting, cutting, and gluing his pieces together. He used this experience as inspiration to make the sequence more stylised and graphic -  "I never used a computer. I did all my stuff traditionally. I did drawings, I painted, I would cut out stuff in paper and glue it."
He made scans of pencil-drawn cut out paper doors and monsters in black and white. Then, using Photoshop and After Effects they coloured and animated everything.
The title sequence was made back during the pre-production process, when they were planning on making the film much more stylised and whacky than it ended up being.
However, they decided to keep the title sequence because it provided a much needed segue into the dark opening for such a fun and upbeat movie. This was especially seen as necessary due to the issue of the opening possibly scaring its young target audience. Test audiences for the film were reported to be "shutting down" and viewing the film as something dark and creepy due to its false tone opening.
The title sequence was used as the device to set the initial tone of the film for its young viewers, so that they feel more relaxed going into the opening.
This is further emphasised through the music they used for the sequence. Newman used temp-jazz music that he re-orchestrated for a small jazz ensemble. Furthermore, the piece was sped up to make it feel more cheerful.
The movements of the doors and monsters also illustrated this - they moved quickly and sporadically; zipping to and fro across the screen. This is all used to create that upbeat and lively tone.
The opening already sets up the worldbuilding for us as well, introducing us to the concept of this monster world that can only be reached through doors.
The sequence also takes care to feature only monsters and no humans. This gives us a narrative clue of who and what the film will be centered on: the monsters who live in this monster world.
Staying true to the midcentury modern aesthetic, the sequence is filled with vibrant colours, geometric forms, and hard, rough edges. The midcentury modern art style is reminiscent of the cheery and optimistic zeitgeist of a post-war America. It is this same cheerful optimism that the sequence is attempting to evoke in the viewers.
Not to mention, the midcentury modern art style is a visual feast for the eyes. This both keeps the viewer base engaged from the get go, and assures them that the film is a comedy.
However, they still strived to maintain that hand-drawn/handmade feel to make it appear more welcoming and childlike compared to the more clear and clean lines of true midcentury modern. Connects with their target audience more.
The fonts vary throughout the sequence, keeping up with that childlike and playful tone.
One could also argue that the midcentury modern art style could be appealing to any parents watching the movie with their kids, who will likely notice the obvious homage to Saul Bass and DePatie-Freleng's The Pink Panther.
The sequence emphasises the Disney/Pixar brand identity - fun, playful, imaginative, family friendly, trustworthy for parents, and still enjoyable for any adults watching.
