ok so this is so funny because i've actually been thinking ab how sweet those two would be together, cute little nerdy besties, and how they'd meet because of course curt has to be in this fic!!

and the first thing my mind went to was the cliche homoerotic codependent friendship trope too LMAO. i'm feeling like maybe they meet on the first day of highschool; neither of them share their english class with any friends, and they end up sat next to each other, and john keeps side–eyeing him because curt looks... interesting. (ie: deep into his emo phase. the fringe. the smudged eyeshadow. chipped black nail polish, band shirts– all things john does not let him live down as they grow up.)

but his eyes settle on some pin on curt's jacket that has some character from his favourite movie or something, and the yap jumps out, john can't control it. blurts out a "you like ___ too?!" and curt's head snaps over and he nods nervously and john takes one look at those big sad charcoal–ringed blue puppy eyes and is like yup. this is the one. will protect with my life.

(tiny headcanon that rly won't have a big effect on plot or anything, but i feel like it just fits very well with john/his character in leaving– dude's got madddd undiagnosed adhd. he's written off as a loud mouth/troublemaker in his childhood, but he wants to be a good kid, his mind is just always going too fast and sitting still is torture and his parents get frustrated and don't look into the root of the problem, trying to discipline it out of him instead. i will heal my inner child by healing him alright)

they're attached at the hip from that moment on and it makes sense to no one because they seem like complete opposites, curt more inclined towards the arts and bookish things and his friends are all the same, whereas john is more inclined towards athletics and science and hangs around that type of crowd as well. but they both love video games and movies and music and they bond over never really feeling like they fit in anywhere particular and both groups of friends get along just fine when they all get together. <3

but yk time goes on, they learn things about themselves as they grow up, and curt and john are so close and spend so much time together that they're already a lot closer than regular friends– they just don't realize it. they think nothing of cuddling up on the couch watching movies together, or sharing a bed when john stays over at curt's place after he gets into a fight with his parents, or being much more interested in spending time together than pursuing girls.

and curt's pretty– john nearly mistakes him for a girl that first day they meet. the summer before their senior year, john practically spends the whole summer at curt's house, and curt's mom doesn't mind; she works long hours and is glad her son isn't spending the summer moping around indoors alone, and she loves john and gets the feeling that her home is a sanctuary for him. one day they're in the backyard lazing around, and they get onto the topic of first kisses, and neither of them have had a proper relationship outside of those classic week–long middleschool flings that don't actually mean anything, so there's not much to talk about.

but being dumb teenage boys, they start worrying about "what if we're really bad at kissing and no girls wanna go with us to senior prom this year" etc. and one of them pops the suggestion of practicing together, and thus begins a summer of sweet stolen kisses and hand holding and experimenting and dancing around calling it something. it ends when the summer does because they realize that they both work better as friends, but they're as close as ever and both definitely learn they aren't straight (and they probably make a cute pact– "if we aren't in love by the time we're thirty, we'll just marry each other.")

i don't see them really doing much together because they're young and shy and inexperienced, but it's enough for john to decide that yeah, he definitely likes guys too, but that's all that really amounts to (until he meets gale) because he's growing up in a small town in wisconsin and it's not the easiest/most accepting place to find other queers. john probably ends up dating a real sweet girl during his last year of highschool, but she's going away for college and john's going to a local one so it ends amicably at the end of summer, both of them staying close friends. (if we wanna get sickeningly wholesome, maybe she ends up pining for a girl while john's pining for gale and they share their little stories and give each other advice and facetime every week to catch up <3)

(++ curt ends up falling head over heels for ken, who he meets through john when curt and john's friend groups get together for movie nights or summer parties. john pretends to be annoyed at how lovesick they are when they first start crushing, but he ends up matchmaking and being the one to push them to confess their feelings after graduation because he loves his friends.)

BUT THEN, leaving this fic's 'canon' to elaborate on the throuple stuff you said! i miss curtbuckbucky too </3

in a separate universe, curt doesn't end up with ken, and as much as he loves his friendship with john and agrees that a relationship wouldn't have worked at that time in their lives, he spends that first year of college pining. when john starts talking about some guy named gale during their second year, he's a little sad, but mostly protective, because "what do you MEAN he's in his 30s??" and "he's a BIKER?"

but john eventually introduces him to gale after a few months of telling curt about him, probably once he and gale actually start seeing each other, and curt immediately gets it. and then he's in double–hell because not only is he a bit (a lot) in love with his best friend, but he's blushing every time said best friend's new bf talks to him, and they're gonna notice eventually if they haven't already and he feels so guilty.

more yearning ensues and john is dense and doesn't realize but gale picks up on it, maybe even notices john doing a bit of pining of his own that john's not fully aware of. and his heart twists because his mind goes to his own insecurities about how john should be seeing someone his own age, so he sits john down and opens up a conversation about it. john is adamant that he's very, very happy with gale, but he tells gale about his and curt's past and admits that he has always still had feelings for him, but insists that it's not something he'd ever pursue, that he values curt's friendship more.

gale throws him off by saying he wouldn't mind if john wanted to explore those feelings, and at first john gets anxious gale is calling things off with the two of them and this is his way of softening the blow, but gale reassures him that's not the case, that he's very happy with their relationship. he just encourages that if he wants to talk to curt and feel things out, he wouldn't be opposed to john and curt seeing each other as well– gale's often busy, after all, so it would be nice for john to have someone else, as long as curt's comfortable with that kind of arrangement and as long as john keeps gale in the loop.

they decide to kinda just feel it out as they go, but soon enough gale starts coming home from work every so often to find the two of them curled up on his couch together, sweet and innocent. curt's wary at first, always slightly detaching himself from john when gale's around, but gale is always friendly and doesn't change up his routine, settling on the couch at john's other side like it's not a big deal at all, wanting to show curt he's welcome there, not wanting john to feel guilty.

it's another scenario where lines just sorta start to blur over time, curt spending a lot of time over at gale's house, and gale sees the way curt looks at him, probably noticed it from the first time they met but chalked it up to nerves at the time. curt's an angel and he's grown quite fond of him, but he doesn't want to overstep, so he leaves it up to curt, thinking maybe the boy will mention it to john one day and john will in turn come to gale to talk about it.

and eventually that happens, just like gale thought it might. curt's just gone home and john's head is in his lap on the couch while they watch tv, and john asks "what do you think about curt?" and gale tells him that he's sweet and he loves how much john smiles when he's around him, the usual. "so you like him?" john pushes, and gale immediately has a feeling where this conversation is going, drags his eyes away from the tv to look down at john.

says "of course" easily, and lets john take his time forming his thoughts. john ends up telling him that he and curt were fooling around earlier while gale was at work (and god help gale for the images that puts in his head) and that he'd made some offhand comment about how curt better hurry up if he doesn't want gale to come home and catch him half naked on their couch. and john's all shy when he says "and curt, uh. y'know. that... did it for him" with a vague gesture LOL. gale never fails to find it amusing how certain things can fluster john to talk about after all they've done together.

"so, anyway. i asked him about it after, if it was a coincidence, and he was real shy about it, but he did admit after a whole lot of apologizing that he likes you." gale listens to him nervously get his words out, petting his hair encouragingly, waits for him to be done before he asks "how do you feel about that?" only to watch the flush return when john mumbles "it's hot."

this is getting sooo long i need to take away my own typing privileges, but basically that's how things would start between the three of them– john and gale agree that gale will let himself be a bit flirty with curt and see how curt takes it. obviously this goes a little too well when curt gets hot and bothered sat between john and gale during a movie night with john's hand on his knee and gale's arm resting on the couch behind him while he plays with curt's hair.

the movie is forgotten when gale's finger catches on a tangled curl and curt doesn't bite back the little whine that slips out in time and john's head snaps over and he mumbles a "fuck" when he realizes what's happened, and his lack of filter comes out to play when he turns to curt and asks "curt, can gale kiss you?" and curt turns to gale with big doll eyes and nods.

john ends up palming himself over his shorts as he watches gale coax curt into his lap, face hot and pupils blown as he gets to see both his guys make out in front of him, almost dizzy seeing curt get so shy and needy and pliant because when it's just the two of them, he and curt are both very balanced in their dynamic. they've been such close friends for so long that not much gets the other truly shy like that, and they're always quick to voice their wants and crack jokes while fooling around and all. so to see curt get so flustered in that way with gale has him lightheaded, and by the time they all collapse into gale's bed at the end of the night, john's convinced this is the best decision he's ever made.

there's a lot of pining on curt's end because for a while it's kinda just sex when it's the three of them, and he loves it but he also finds himself wanting more but feeling too scared to voice it because he feels like he's intruding. but eventually they all get their shit sorted out; curt fits into their relationship just right in a way gale and john never intended or expected, and gale falls for curt just as much as john has and curt does the same with gale.

gale's got two sweet things glued to his side now and man, do they ever give him a run for his money, and if he'd thought john had too much energy (and stamina) it's nothing compared to keeping up with both of them, but he wouldn't have it any other way. <3

throuple things won't be happening in the actual fic, but i do love the idea of exploring the dynamic the three of them might have in a spin–off of that au so this was rly fun thx :-) maybe i'll write a pwp oneshot set in that universe as an excuse to write more curtbuckbucky once the fic is done LOL we'll see!

and isnt that the crux of ep93’s flashback scene? the foundational belief reuenthal has of his own irredeemable nature lies underneath it all. we were introduced to reuenthal’s backstory in ep28 as a means to excuse away his sexist philandering personage, but this 5-7 min flashback sequence of ep93 truly completes the puzzle on who reuenthal is and how his past forges this present choice he will make. falsely accused of treason once more, yet this time an admiral in the inner network was killed for it [and an attempt was made on reinhard's life]. so someone has to be the fall guy for this crime, and reuenthal will take the charge...

while reckoning with this, reuenthal reflects on his life. he contrasts himself to the recently departed yang wenli, who was his exact age & a man who desired peace. reuenthal finds yang's brutal death to be so cruelly ironic. reuenthal believes ardently that he is incompatible with peace & under that, he believes he is cursed. if a just creator exists, reuenthal argues, then he is only fair in his malice.

when reuenthal thinks of his father carrying his mother’s corpse, of the common abusive refrains he heard in his childhod, the first thing his childlike apparition runs to is mittermeyer. his safety, his closest companion, the only reference of ‘healthy family’ he had. he thinks of his friend, shrouded in gold, happy with his wife, while his now-adult self is cast into the darkness. could he have a family and be happy too? he thinks. elfriede runs over his mindscape and in it, holds their child as if to say no. the product of his abuse of the woman who tried to murder him mocks his past desire of ‘wanting this seed of nuisance, the reuenthal lineage to end’. bc now, he has a child on the way. reuenthal explicitly compares being falsely accused of treason to this child, as theyre both situations he didnt want. but where reuenthal has no desire to be an active father (+ all the complicity in the kid's conception). he had no complicity in the uruvasi incident yet all the desire to play the role of traitor.

reuenthal thinks of his kaiser, his kaiser’s dearly departed kircheis, the recently departed lutz… all these people: random admirals, aristocratic women, all these symbols of polite society. before thinking of mittermeyer and eva again. and once more, his father interjects with the refrain ‘you should have never been born’. and reuenthal the man turns once more again into reuenthal the child.

we see leonora taking all the chips in the poker game, how leonora in reuenthal's mind resembles reuenthal himself, symbolizing how reuenthal saw her as a reflection/the root of his own vices with her lover who resembles mittermeyer... and the same old murder suicide attempt with leonora and infant reuenthal. reuenthal’s father repeats ‘you should have never been born’, with a now adult reuenthal saying the titular quote. he truly has internalized & believed that his father was right about him, that he was born to make his parents suffer + should have never been born. reuenthal excuses his childhood abuse, with the implication of why he was ‘unhappy’ in childhood being that his father was onto some innate stain his child self was born with.

we see when reuenthal said the titular quote, its to mittermeyer when they were meeting with military academy students, and ever so savvy mittermeyer asks ‘is it like being drunk, or being sobered up?’ and reuenthal says he doesnt know, but ‘its better to die drunk than sober,’ thinking this as he says such. [also something to think about later on for when mittermeyer confronts him in an ep or two later, how his last words to reuenthal was 'you're drunk on blood-colored dreams' ... reuenthal getting drunk as he dies slowly in agony waiting for mittermeyer to arrive. i digress.]

and reuenthal’s curious on intoxication, love and devotion, we are taken back to the night that reuenthal went to reinhard to save mittermeyer’s life.

‘that anointed one, that dear one nine years my junior, had thought of usurping the goldenbaum dynasty…i was in shock. truly, theres a wide difference between the ambitions of great v. ordinary. i was then carried away by it, and gambled on Him.'

reuenthal always loathed the aristocracy, but was complacent in it up until mittermeyer infuriated the nobles, and even then, could not free his friend directly. his devotion to reinhard is spurned by reinhard’s utter boldness in spiting the old guard.

and where reinhard is his loyalty, mittermeyer is reuenthal’s love. however way u cut it, reuenthal and mittermeyer canonically care deeply for eachother, and the flashbacks set up reuenthal's 'intoxciation perhps including love or loyalty' line too well with mittermeyer and reinhard representing one/both to reuenthal as they're the costars in reuenthal's mindscape from here on out.

regretting that he could not have any more days with him, believing he 'chose to gave it all away'... he thinks of all the fights they got into, all the fun they had together, and how mittermeyer so vociferously advocated for reuenthal’s life the first time his loyalties were put in suspicion. he knows, he begs even, mittermeyer, the wulf der sturm, his dear friend, to not do that again. because theres multiple political figures who would benefit from reuenthal AND mittermeyer’s downfall. reuenthal is fully willing to go down alone & not let his dear friend suffer the rammifications.

and this is when, the earlier question of why reuenthal’s so eager to be the traitor is fully answered.

its in the name of pride. 'for my pride, i have no choice but to fight.' he says. which is another reason why he begs in his head for mittermeyer not to intervene, because pride where a man raised in an aristocratic relic of a space empire retreats to, when the self is hollowed out. pride, mixed with almost intrinsic capacity for self loathing and blame. reuenthal knows he did nothing wrong here, but the image he's created for himself and the political quagmire he is in requires that he gears up to fight. and reinhard. oh, that dear one.

reuenthal recognizes that he and reinhard have this shared warrior's pride, and that reinhard has been empty without conquest, without yang, without someone to battle. this is also, in a way, showing his devotion to reinhard. which is why, right after reuenthal says this to himself, it is for pride...we are shown once more the reinhard from the s1 finale, coldly testing reuenthal and not anyone else.

reinhard in his moment of cruel grief, in losing kircheis + annerose going no-contact with him, resonates reuenthal's intrinsic self-hatred, and recognizes that in him as well as their overall shared warrior's pride. the reuenthal at the time could not meet that challenge, as their world was far too tumultuous and reuenthal devoted to the overthrow of the goldenbaums to risk reinhard's then rather unpredictable, terrifying ire. where now, reuenthal is far more acclimated to a reinhard unsheathed, and has served his duty in the creation of reinhard's legacy... he will commit to this final act of playing the turncoat, to satisfy reinhard's last warcry. reuenthal is also prideful in that he refuses to die in obscurity or be incarcerated by lang. he craves being under the glory of the golden lion, as he said earlier, and he will find infamy in history as the traitor if nothing else.

what this flashback sequence asks us to look at is how reuenthal’s fatalist pessimistic nature & why exactly he decides to play into the rebellion allegations even when he knows he had no involvement in the uruvasi incident. no one will believe him, except for mittermeyer. what this is rooted in complex traumatic patterns, foolish pride, and a political quagmire involving multiple parties, and what makes reuenthal's rebellion such a classic tragedy is that in reuenthal's eyes, his life is a self-fulfilling prophecy. the boy that should have never been born, made only to make his family suffer, becomes a man who left a trail of broken hearts + betrayed his king. yet reuenthal didn't ask to be born, nor did he actually betray reinhard. and he didnt even get to fight reinhard, mittermeyer is the one who puts down the reuenthal 'rebellion'. its incredibly cruel, that the person who loved and probably knew reuenthal the best was the one who was made to be his costar in closing out this elaborate suicide attempt. and he couldnt even make it in time to have their last drink.

18. I LOVE SUFFERING but i do like the contrast of hurt/comfort. We need the comfort to make the hurt gooder. But like I think !! Sometimes in different fandoms, you'll see that the themes of the source material pop up over and over in fics and stuff, and I think with VC it's such a huge theme that people just want to be loved, and how monsters can still be loved, and how we are not our worst deeds, that we can fuck up and still have value.

And it's a theme that I think gets applied unevenly in the canon, especially in the later books as Anne was just like keyboard smashing the blorbos and having fun. So like, since the POVs are so Lestat-Heavy we get a lot of Lestat knowing he's a bastard and still desiring love and goodness, and then other characters are loved unconditionally and we never really acknowledge that they're bastards, or I think steps get skipped where Lestat essentially winds up being the flawless Mary Sue character who is never accountable for anything he does--we still make it from Point A (fuckup does something terrible) to Point B (he is still loved) but I think it becomes less nuanced in the later books and we don't really spend time with the redemption arc. (An example is like, TOBT is ALL about how he fucks up and we really look closely at it and work through it, vs in the PL trilogy when he like noncon bites David and it's all fine and we don't even talk about it.) And using Lestat as an example because he gets the most screentime, but Marius is exactly the same, and it's further complicated that we never get POV from characters who dislike him LOL.

So to answer your question like, I love seeing him suffer because I love angst LOL but I root for him, I want him to know peace, and I think the story has a lot more potential for nuance than what we got in the books, which is why fandom is here. THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF TRANSFORMATIVE FICTION LOL. (To me lol, that's my mission here.) But if he doesn't suffer first there's no real value in his being at peace, that's boring LMAO where's the FLAVOR where's the CONFLICT; let him fuck up and suffer and destroy his entire life first so that we have a puzzle to work out to make his way back.

been thinking about 1031 recently as well just because i enjoy her as an oc but shes also one of those ocs i consider an untouchable because shes encased in the time i made her and her story that id feel really weird using her for anything else

her name isnt 1031 but rather thats the name of the story, but i call her 1031 for ease and because she lacks any name in-canon and isnt reffered to as anything besides that girl and her. the entire story is that a teenage seth wewason lost his sister aria to suicide a year prior, and now he himself is struggling with the same thoughts, but when he goes to the roof of his highschool he finds a stranger (1031) already there who cryptically talks to him over multiple days about his feelings and the contemplation of suicide

the jest of the story is about the state of suicide prevention in the united states and especially the care (or lack thereof) for suicidal children; seth is easily disregarded by his peers, and his school lacks the safety or care to keep him from continuously returning to the dangerous school roof

and 1031 herself is an ambivalent mystery; she easily parrots the dangerous ideas that children are taught about their emotions, that if something is wrong in your life you should simply look at what positives there are and think about those less fortunate than you, essentially the ''someone always has it worse'' argument. she uses other's feelings against him, telling him how his sister hurt him leaving him behind so to imagine how much he'll hurt others leaving as well, scaring him away on the first couple of days

but later, when seth starts really getting to the root of his own suffering and misery, 1031 turns the other way; she talks about how theyre often told to think of others instead of themselves when theyre miserable, yet so very few of those same people are willing to help in the hour of their need, that the root of the suffering is tossed away and instead their emotions are dictated by the loss it creates; the loss of a student, the loss of an employee, the loss of the person who does the laundry. the life of a child is dictated by their usefulness and what will happen when thats lost, and so the child's emotions are put on the backburner. Rarely does the system want to deal with the problem of suicidality, and simply worries about the loss it'll create not because a person's life is important, but because the loss of profit and blame that will be put on them

1031 herself is an enigma in her story as well as to what she is; she could entirely be Seth's imaginative conscious, that constricts when in the grip of suicidality and thus only sees the two options of suffering or die, or she herself could just be another child forgotten by the system due to her own suffering, or maybe an angel sent by god to either lure seth to the other side or push him back for as long as possible. or perhap she is just a creation of suicidal herself, the conflicting emotion of wanting to be saved from the suffering but unable to see anything beyond the options of dying or suffering. it's never explained and nothing is clarified about her existence, beyond the fact that she can seemingly ''jump'' and disappear before seth's eyes yet appear again the very next day unharmed.

the ending of the story itself is left up in the air, as ultimately i didnt want to end a story with the idea that something can ever change the greater problem that is being suicidal; talking to someone wont save seth permanently, having a religious revelation or ''successfully'' arguing with your own consciousness doesnt suddenly make you well again; seth and 1031's time together is just a brief few days in what could very well be a lifelong struggle for seth, and no one person has the answer to it all, not seth or 1031 and whatever she may be. the suffering of kids is an ongoing problem that has not been dealt with because it is part of the greater society we live in, of a death-fearing, disability-fearing, apathetic individualistic society that refuses children their right to their emotions, their pain, their lives. a child's sadness is seen as lesser or unimportant because of the idea that children do not deal with important things, and are not important people on society, so seth and 1031 are in a stalemate at two children simply trying to deal with the unending suffering they are going through with no help from others, the system, the adults they are told have all the answers, etc. seth and 1031 are ultimately just holding onto each other at the edge because the safety net refuses to be put up because a building's aesthetic value is higher than the life of a child, and theres no way to simply fix it in a day. so 1031 is always around on that rooftop waiting for the next person, and the next person, and she herself stays up there and waits, because nobody ever does for her what she does for others

season 7 is the quintessential hermitcraft season to watch

Admitedly, i’m not THAT old of a hermitcraft fan, ive only been around since s6 and will vanquish the Mic of Opinions to fans whove been around for longer, but what i CAN say to all the newbie hermitfans who want to get into the community is this:

watch season 7.

bc while hc s6 is regarded as the ‘turning point’ for hermitcraft and holds a lot of influence on the following seasons, its a fairly daunting task to backwatch and experience it in all of its glory and chaos. Its called the Season Sixfinity for a reason; it lasted nearly twice as long as any season before it, and is just not accessible for everyone. Scar alone has about ~100hrs worth of content on that season. What more if newcomers wanna backwatch the series of other hermits like xisuma, grian, falsie, etc?

And thats not even considering the fact that historical context is very relevant for this time. Season 6 was in 2018— the minecraft renaissance era was in full swing, and the minecraft community as a whole was going through a lot of changes. Its just a lot of stuff to take in for a new viewer. (in particular: new gen dsmp fans who are alr pretty burnt out by the concept of Multiple Povs I Am Obliged to Watch, and is a common reason why so many of them migrated to hermitcraft recently in the first place)

But season 7? It has the perfect balance of everything. If you comb through the hermits’ channels youd find that for most of them, their most viewed hermitcraft videos IS their s7ep1 bc thats simply how hype the season was!! Minecraft was on a good track of evolving as a game. The hermits were left flushed from the previous season and eager to ramp up their Minecrafting AND Youtubing skills.. Season 6′s main problem—immature discourse during server-wide events—began largely dying down and has become pretty much extinct by the time s8 came around (partly because grian’s clout began to bleed over to the other hermits and by the end of the season so many of them have finally, finally gotten the recognition they deserve and have passed/are so close to passing the 1mil milestone.) 

Season 7 was The Return of hermits like etho and xb. keralis and bdubs’ first full season in a while. wels’s return from burnout— it tied up Old and New hermitcraft with a neat little bow.  The vibes were simply IMMACULATE. 

Some ppl didnt even know that season 7 is where winged!grian became a thing. [EDIT: I meant the pesky bird!variety, he's been drawn w elytra since season 6 but s7 was when he began to have floofy feathery wings :>] or that this was when scar and grian really began becoming buddies (desert duo enthusiasts know your history!!) When mumbo began letting loose his loony side. stress’s pink cardigan becomes magenta, bdubs gains his anime eyes, and joe gets his bright neon green hair. It has a fair amount of historical events of its own: the Button. the mayoral race. the Turf War. the HCBBS. the boomers. the keralis secret-base games. the first hermits helping hermits stream. the first inclusion of proximity chat. the armor stand book. Decked Out and Amogus (tango popped off this season fr!!) and the BUILDS oh my god the world was so built up this season it was insane!! the absolute madlads on this server man.

and then season 8 is easy to continue on from there. lasted very short which is good for catching up on and the hermits whose s7 DID suffer (doc, who had his little one and jevin who also went through burnout) get their redemption in s8. the addition of gem and pearl. which then brings us to hc s9 where the hermits are on top of the world and going back to their roots, and being honest w themselves about what kind of balance they want to achieve w their content (mumbo, being currently on break and taking time to recharge and we love him loads <3).

The whitelist is now at top notch quality, full capacity. Theyre on top of the world, and theyve decided to take it chill for the while before returning to your daily schedule of hermitcraft shenanigans with a fresher outlook on life. A truly inspiring and satisfying emotional journey. 

tldr; dont know where to start? Start from s7.

the master saying “if i cant be the doctor, neither can you” is so raw because he literally tried to become the doctor before, as missy, through actions - being “good”, saving people, etc etc. ultimately the past caught up to her and she regressed back into her old ways (but in the end, she did help the doctor, the doctor doesnt know that). 

then the master found out about the timeless child, realized that his devotion to the time lord empire has all been for nothing, because it was built on lies, built on the pain and suffering of the doctor. that a piece of the doctor is in him and he wouldnt be who he is without the doctor, which in a way has always been true, but never as true as it is now.

revealing all of this to the doctor should break her down to his level, right? telling her all about the lives she never knew and everything that was done to her/the child would ruin her own perception of who she is, because there are so many memories lost. to him, the doctor is the doctor because of everything she has done, the past defines who the doctor is. with so much of her past hidden, how can she continue to be who she’s built herself up to be?

but he’s wrong. the doctor isnt the doctor solely due to the memories. the doctor is the doctor because she helps people, does good where good can be done. even if her definition of “good” isnt absolute, the point is that she tries. 

he thinks he has brought her down to his level when theyre in the matrix, and shes threatening him with the death particle. he wants her to pull the trigger, wants her to kill them both. its what hes always wanted, isnt it? their deaths together. “become death, become me” 

but she cant. she cant bring herself down to that level. in a way, maybe he has broken her, trying to get her to make that decision, you can see the way she almost pulls the trigger, up until he says those four words. its then that the doctor realizes it would give him what he wants, the ultimate destruction of who the doctor is at her own hand. its then that she falters. 

the master then takes it upon himself to destroy the doctor at the very root of it all. he brings some of her old companions back, tries to pit them against her, he wants to become her in the most literal but also metaphorical sense in order to ruin everything she has ever stood for, to ruin her reputation. because if a piece of her has been in him since the beginning, he can never get rid of her in a physical sense. her death wouldnt erase him of her completely.

he takes her identity, becomes her. he plays into the role of the doctor the best he can, wants to have a companion, wants to travel the stars and get into mischief under the guise of the doctor. he doesnt have to worry about trying to become good for the doctor’s sake, he can continue on has he has done and there will be no doctor trying to stop him. 

her friends come together to undo what hes done. the universe needs the doctor. the doctor is the doctor because of the friends shes made along the way . the doctor is the doctor because of love. and the master doesnt have that, cannot have that. “dont let me go back to being me” the master loathes who hes become, after everything he had built his identity around was destroyed, he had nothing to fall back on other than his hatred for the doctor, his jealousy of the doctor. 

if the doctor couldnt become him, maybe he could become her - he doesnt want to be the master anymore. so then if he couldnt become the doctor, then she shouldnt be the doctor either. it ultimately comes down to him wanting the destruction of the both of them and going trough any means to make it happen. in the end, this time, it did happen. for them, its a neverending cycle of death and betrayal and their friendship and their love for each other but also the hatred, the animosity, they always find their way back to each other. but perhaps not this time.

because the means he went through to make it happen, i doubt the doctor is ever going to forgive him.

Yeah shadow does have other forms. Like the giant smoke monster, it's in the 2nd ask we had. While they normally stay as macaque's shadow, their consciousness can go into any shadow macaque makes. It's limited though, if macaque makes 20 shadow clones, shadow can only get into and control one of them. They also can't actually feel anything, so no temperature, pain, textures, etc. Though maybe wukong can find a way to hurt them, if anyone can do it is him.

In the future macaque will suggest making a permanent shadow clone for shadow to be fully their own person but shadow actually prefers being macaque's literal shadow. Kind of frustrating for shadow that everyone want them to be their own person, but others don't understand theyre not a person, and they don't want to be a person.

Fun facts

The personhood topic from above is kind of complex. Shadow is right they're not a person like others are people. They were 'born' with the mission to be macaque's secret friend and make him happy and that is rooted into their soul, it's their purpose. No matter what, that won't change. But they're no longer just a unthinking force of nature, and while they were only semi sentient for the majority of their existence, by a few years of macaque constantly being around MK and wukong they will be fully sentient. What exactly does that mean for them? Shadow has no idea and it hurts their head just trying to think about it. Honestly they're happy being macaque's and thats all they need really

Shadow is he/they. They normally use they but doesn't care which one is used. What they do care about is being called she, that repulsed them to the very core (honestly this is fueled by my hc on trans macaque)

Ironically if wukong and macaque hadn't started becoming friends again shadow would have never been able to erase Mac memories. It's a combo of shadow only previously been passively looking before into a way to make macaque forget, and the fact wukong's aura/magic made them smarter. Shadowpeach increased hang outs gave shadow the motivation and the means

Post memory arc and post heightened sentience, Shadow get a small crush on Tang. It's truly small and wouldn't go anywhere since tang is married to pigsy. But bc of it they spend a significant amount of time trying to set macaque and tang (and by extension pigsy) up. It's 30% motivated by believing tang is perfect for them/Mac, and 70% wanting to demolish the romance they see reblossoming for shadowpeach. "macaque you can do so much better please"

They find cats extremely creepy, they're one of the few animals that just seem to know they're not a normal shadow. Since macaque is a cat magnet, this has caused shadow endless suffering. After they're known, macaque will threaten cat time if shadow is overstepping

When shadow is mentally talking to macaque he sounds like normal macaque, it's part of the reason macaque always thought shadow influencing him was his own ideas. But when they talk for real, they sound like a very raspy and chocked up macaque, the exact voice macaque had as he was dying and begging for his life. This adds to another reason why wukong don't get along with shadow

will shadow ever express that they have no interest in being their own person and are content as simply being what they already are? it'd be frustrating to me if everyone kept tryna push for me to do something i don't want to do.

also does it... not wig macaque out that he has this whole other part of him that he's not really able to control? that's been influencing his thoughts and actions and has the potential to completely change who he is? i don't know if you were imagining macaque having a full-on identity crisis about this or if it was just kinda something that was handwave-y for you. (not that it has to be anything but handwave-y, that's fine too)

when it comes to macaque rekindling his relationship with wukong, does he draw a firm line about that to shadow? them butting heads over who he should be with seems... troublesome.

now that ive gotten past my “zari im so sorry you fell in love with JOHN of all people” phase i can now. really look at them and their relationship and what it means it’s so. oh my god them.

like okay. so her entire life zari has been “the dragon girl” i.e: she’s been a BRAND since she was a kid. and i reaaaallly am inclined to believe her mom was the reason she even became a brand and that’s the root of their issues with each other but i digress her entire life zari tarazi has been perceived by everyone, her friends, her family, as the dragon girl. and as such all of her relationships have had some if not All of its basis be the fact that so and so is dating/knows “the dragon girl.” and she uses this as a crutch for her self-esteem issues.

so just. with that on her end here comes someone who firstly, isn’t even from her time period, secondly is SO offline that he doesn’t even have a PHONE and thirdly, straight up hates capitalism. like. this is someone who met her PROPER during a performance of romeo and juliet where there were literally no cameras, nothing of note to promote (shakespeare dni) and it was really just. them. on stage together. like matt and tala’s acting aside that moment was So important.

but moving on, john doesn’t like zari’s brand. he’s made as much clear in the episode where they literally get together. this literally is like. the key to why they work so well because he is incapable of seeing her as “the dragon girl” because he does not like “the dragon girl.” it’s an ugly brand made to sell to the common folk and like the good little anarchist he is, he’s entirely not about it. therefore, when it was zari’s turn to compete on the singing competition he saw her. he knew zari was competing to also save her brand but when it came down to it, the girl with the wings on stage was just herself to him because by his own nature he’s incapable of seeing the brand. like the fact that the first time she has a proper conversation with john it’s about her accomplishment versus his, because he’s not impressed by “the dragon girl” when she saves his ass from the others he’s impressed by zari.

and ontop of THIS. theyre FREAKS!!!!! you’ve got Miss “i’m going to slam the door on a serial killer in a car full of kids” and mr “i’m going to lick doorframes and rub blood on my face” together in one room and of COURSE she’s going to slam him against the wall and try to fuck, zari 1 and behrad overhearing be damned !! he’s not gonna care either !! theyre freak4freak!!!

so just. like. it’s just. so painful to know that this really good thing zari has found, the fact that she’s found love in someone who sees her for herself, not for her brand, and that she’s going to lose it because of the home box office....... god genuinely ms tarazi i am SO sorry.

6 Anti LO Asks

1. i would actually get the idea people look down on the underworld gods bc like yeah theyre scary and unwelcomed, but like its undercut by rachel making them the most desirable and most powerful for?? reasons?? like she wants them to be underdogs while at the same time being the best at everything, which is her issue with persephone too, she also has to be powerless and humble but also the most unique and powerful. she wants us to root for them when they have no actual struggles.

2. i dont take reviews for anything, tbh. the "professional" reviews LO got were all by people who are also at the same printing house, so theyre literally paid to say something nice for marketing even if they dont like it (i work in publishing, we do this all the time), and amazon reviews arent regulated, so of course LO stans will flood it to fluff it up. thats what let's play fans have been doing too for years now too, despite it being wattpad markipiler fanfic.

3. I know comparing characters isn’t right but honestly LO has enough wrong going on I won’t feel bad. Persphone isn’t interesting on her own in LO. A lot of her character is having things happen to her except for flirting with Hades and killing mortals (and maybe running away as a reaction to Zeus). Persphone we are told she is smart, naive, powerful but powerless. Her character literally is whatever RS thinks fits the chapter the best. Persphone has no clear goals other than wanting Hades, what’s her major? What was the next step after college? Do the other gods go to college? Why doesn’t she know what sleeping to the top means but knows so much about flirting with a man who has a gf? What was she suppose to be doing if she never met hades?

Although the other female cast may not be likeable, they do actually do stuff that drives their own character

Minthe may have fallen into a shitty relationship with Hades, but she feels sick about the ring and treats Hades because he doesn’t listen to her. She leads Persphone to the wrong location cause she doesn’t like her. She fights hades (not a good thing but does something to the plot)

Daphne has Persphones background, grew up in the mortal realm. However she’s a lot more interesting. Demeter probably isn’t strict with Daphne, but Daphne is now and influencer with business deals and when forced to Dave Apollo bits and threatens him. And even before with Apollo wanted to find out her own opinions on the guy.

Hecate isn’t a main character but enjoys to be in the plot and leaves the plot as she pleases, she’s support but also seems like there more to her than shown. She likes chaos, gardening, and expanding her knowledge.

Aphrodite, drove the plot with the drugs and car thing, NOT A GOOD THING but actually did something. Was looking for her husband, testing her son may not be the best character but actually leaves marks on the story telling despite not showing up a lot.

Artemis, invites Persphone into her home, has always been this sliver footed hunter, was doing fine before persphone, but also has her own family issues

Demeter fought in a war, has her own morals and ethics when raising a daughter, may have messed up but again actually contributes to the plot

Hera pushes HXP together and apart, has her own interesting drama, seduced Kronos and paid for it gravely, DID have an affair with hades. Not good things but contributions.

Thetis manipulates people

Persphone just doesn’t do much herself in the comic. She didn’t want to go to the party, she didn’t want the job, a lot of the plot is having her having something happen to her. The drugging, the Apollo the offers, Meg offering her clothes even. She doesn’t drive the plot other than flirting with Hades even knowing about Minthe, killing those mortals, and turning Minthe into a plant, but none of those things are even framed as wrong. It’s like even when she does make a “mistake” it doesn’t “count”

5. Since we’re talking about self-inserts, hell, I have like 3 characters in my book that can be argued to be my self inserts. But the difference is that while I project onto them plenty, I still remember they are my CHARACTERS, not me. Not to beat a dead horse but even with Hades saying he misspoke in calling Persephone his wife - considering they arent dating and have only known each other for a short time period, it still sounds weird, right? Like in the newer chapters (I think) Hades and Persephone discuss going on a "first date" after the trial is over which would be fine - except A). It sounds as though even if Persephone gets a punishment (like lets say its a Prometheus treatment kinda thing) that they'll just go behind Zeus' back + authority to go on dates anyway, regardless of punishment or not, and B). Hades calling Persephone his wife indicates that despite not even being on a proper date or even knowing her all that well that he already thinks of her as such, which seems a bit presumptuous considering everything thats been happening.

Also ive seen claims far and between that months have passed if not a year since Persephone went on the run / the beginning of the comic - does anyone have a source for that? (The timeline makes everything confusing).

Also, I was told that the trial doesnt take place in the underworld - that it actually takes place in Olympus?? Anyone got a source? Pls and thanks. 

From OP, not Anon: From the episodes currently on FP, the trial does take place on Olympus. The underworld is in a constant state of darkness and the place where the trial is being held shows it's visibly daytime. Also, it hasn't been months or a time skip. Some people were confused by Hades's wording because he said 'months'. Saying weeks would've been way better and less confusing.

i think there were a lot of things that went wrong this era, some his fault, some just unavoidable pandemic stuff...... (long)

firstly it was a stupid, boneheaded move to leave hopeless for 300. i said so the day it happened, im saying so now. honestly the choice to forcibly distance himself from the “pop punk” label AT ALL was a bad move!! i understand he doesnt like it and i agree with him that parx music isnt pop punk. however their literal ENTIRE BASE is pop punk/emo/alt fans!!!! how many fans do you think parx has that didnt get into them from another emo band or doesnt also like other emo bands??? very few. and have you noticed a huge lack or press/magazine coverage this era??? huh its almost like their biggest friends in the journalism world were ALT MUSIC MAGS like ap, kerrang, rocksound, etc.... hopeless being an alt label it was rly easy to score those features!!! now its harder!!!!! 300 isnt promoing them at all and hopeless put them in times square!!!

also 300 is just a nightmare of a label, a fact that is easily googleable (and that we googled on like. day 1) just look at the merch rollouts this era hoooly jesus.... and their idea of “promo” is to buy instagram ads and? stories on random ppls pages?? like “dm for promo” type stuff??? that being said the way awsten is publicly beefing w them WHILE SIGNED and encouraging fans to harass them is like sooo childish and unprofessional its insane...... how did u not learn ur lesson when equal vision took dd and ent from u..... grow up dude.....

also for him hyping up the aesthetics of this era as better than all other eras theyre really.... not all that..... awstens always been rly good with cultivating aesthetics so to see him drop the ball like this is a bummer :( the music videos are cookie cutter no budget lip syncing vids, merch is the UGLIEST ive ever seen, even his personal aesthetic isnt up to par outside the flashy hair color (but that might just be a personal opinion)......

i cant imagine how hard it must be to be a band during the pandemic but also. my god. the way he conducts himself on social media this era. suffice to say its gone from “cute and cheeky” to like “there is something deeply wrong w the way u are interfacing w the world” and i dont think retweeting fans trying to get your attention by gushing how artistic everything u do is is like... the cool band promo u think.... it is.............

as for the music itself i dunno.... he signed to 300 specifically so nobody could give him any artistic guidance or feedback and i understand that desire but i think the music suffered for it. i think listening to the 5 people you “trust” who also happen to be your friends, labelmates, and/or managers is not incredible for pushing yourself creatively... also just because YOU assign all this meaning to the art u make doesnt mean the art actually conveys that meaning especially if it is abstract..... and getting mad at your fans for not “getting it” is not a good look i think? maybe make music that resonates with more people and more people. will like. connect to ur music.

also i miss interviews where it was the band talking and showing off their personalities and friendship because THAT his how you build a fan base. that is how you make people care about and root for you. waterworks with waterparks? waterparks plays guess that band? waterparks at the rocksound carnival?? that stuff!!! thats how you make people love you!!! other boy bands like bts and 5sos have it figured out, why havent you!!!!! you need to know thats how u got these fans right.....!!

sometimes an album just doesnt do well and thats life. it doesnt mean the album is bad!!! look at folie à deux for instance!!!! but i think this album “flopped” compared to past releases largely in part to the choices awsten made personally and professionally and hes not handling it well at all. not every album is gonna be a breakout hit even for VERY successful bands and thats ok and to be expected but it sucks that awsten put all his eggs in one basket here

i like parx a lot and i care about these dudes deeply (albeit parasocially) and it sucks to see them doing meh, i want them to do well, be happy, have fun, be successful..... its hard to root for people who act like they deserve to be on top and get mad when they arent tho :(

Okay, hc that Ro hates having dirt, or grease, or anything remotely dirty on his hands, especially under his fingernails. It just feels so so bad and it just >:[[[[, so when he goes out with Vee, he knows he'll go home with messy hands, cuz they're gonna be rooting through plants n dirt n stuff, and he hates the dirt, when he gets home he rushes to the sink all "D: !!!!!" and scrubs his hands until he's positive they're clean. But he does it for vee, bc vee loves goin out here and gettin dirty and he loves vee so much, he is willing to suffer for vee.

And another thing, sometimes when Ro is hanging out with the rest of the gang all at once, he just goes quiet and let's them talk, just silently looking between them and listening as they talk about whatever, and he's just full of love for all them, because these are his friends!!! They're his friends!!! He's so appreciative of every one of them and he loves them so much, and it feels so nice to know that they love him too, and he's just silently pushing all of the love into the air, because just ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡ and then he's pulled from his thoughts, probably with Lo goin "you okay? You're kinda quiet." And everyone looks at him, silently worrying for him, and Roman just feels so loved in that moment- and he has to stop himself from actually crying.

hello, i’m sorry i forgot to answer this!

i am indeed anti tony stark. i’ve answered an ask about this before which goes into more detail so you can see my full opinions here but overall.... i cannot stand that man. he’s arrogant, rude and constantly harms other characters at his own expense (see peter parker MULTIPLE times). he’s the source of almost half the villains in the mcu (does that not tell you something alarming?) and i just think his character became irredeemable after civil war (his treatment of bucky, sam, peter, wanda (even though i don’t like her anyway) and steve is just..... so fucked). he’s got no regard for anyone else’s feelings — specifically, something that you can imagine is very close to my heart, bruce, who he treats like shit (see infinity war when bruce re-enters earth. for stans who constantly talk about how tony has suffered and deserves rest and is traumatised etc. theyre real quiet when he’s ignoring all of that in other characters for his own gain or at the expense of a joke. it will NEVER sit right with me.).

something i didn’t mention in my og post is one of my biggest peeves with him is in endgame when he literally considers NOT bringing back half of the universe because it inconveniences him. pepper has to convince him? like come on dude how are we supposed to root for this character? the avengers have always been about trying to make things right and this mf just gives up for five years. it just don’t sit right with me.

i used to tolerate him but i’m just so actively against him now and i’m sorry to any of my followers that like him. i’ll just never be able to root for a character who is inferred (and explicitly) to be so villainous.
