¡Hola!

I don't remember if you or someone else wrote a meeting between kiddies Usnavi and Ruben, but just - Ruben making his way in the barrio for some reason and making friends for a day with Usnavi, Benny, Nina, and Vanessa, who's puzzled by this kid but also feels at ease with him in a way she doesn't with a lot of people? And Abuela seeing this kid is lost and scared (maybe he lost his way) puts him right in the middle of the barrio kids and makes him chocolate while the Rosarios find his mom?
i did write a fic where lil ruben and lil usnavi had a chance meeting at an aquarium after usnavi wandered off from his class on a school trip. sad bc it was on my old blog/old laptop and i never had chance to transfer it to AO3 so it is lost forever :(
i love the idea of abuela looking out for a lost lil ruben (i love the idea of abuela and ruben meeting for any reason, it makes me sad that they didn’t - i feel like they’d get on so well). he’s four years older than the boys and five years older than the girls so they’d probably be like. very tiny. which i actually love bc chances are he’d be freaking out and nonverbal at this point, but if he was just surrounded by basically toddlers they wouldn’t think anything of it and would just want him to play, which would probably help. first hints of his Excellent Older Brother skills long before he’s an older brother!
(that means benny wouldn’t be there, in my timeline, since he doesn’t move there till the boys are around 7/8. but maybe him and ruben meet some other time. because i dont care if it’s unrealistic, unknown childhood meetings are always cute and fun)

Cruise From Barcelona, Spain
Introducing Barcelona
The capital city of Spain's Catalonia region is one of Europe's most impressive and awe-inspiring travel destinations. A city of contrasts, it is distinct in Spain, most evident in its signature architecture, a marriage of Gothic and modern, with one name featured more than any other, the famous architect Antonio Gaudi. If you are a visiting tourist it's good to know the city is basically divided into two, the old city, with the most famous buildings and museums, and Port Vell, featuring bars, restaurants, aquarium and theaters.
Take a Tour of Barcelona
It takes even an energetic tourist a week to do Barcelona, so with only a single day, you'll be very busy. Don't miss famous destinations such as La Sagrada Familia, Gaudi's astounding church, the medieval, characterful Barrio Gothic area, and the Picasso museum. Finally head up to Montjuic for a wonderful view over the whole of the city and the surrounding hills and ocean.
La Sagrada Familia
Barcelona's funkiest church was designed by Barcelona's most famous son Gaudi. Work began in 1883, and the imaginative building is only now nearing completion. Don't miss features like the nativity-themed facade, the mosaic bell towers, and ornate doorways showing faith, hope and charity.
Las Ramblas
A fabulous boulevard leading from Port Vell to Placa de Catalunya, the heart of old Barcelona. The street is packed with cafes, shops, florists, street entertainers, and Boqueria, a colorful market. Half way along Las Ramblas lies the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona's gorgeous opera house. La Rambla ends at the Placa de Catalunya, a large plaza filled by cafes and shops.
Barri Gotic
The Gothic Quarter is steeped with a wonderful olde-world atmosphere. The streets are winding and narrow and packed with busy life. Art lovers will enjoy the Museu Picasso, showcasing the artwork of Picasso. Also worth visiting is the Cathedral of Santa Eulalia, a splendid example of early-European architecture.
Gaudí planned an amazing house with undulating, living curves for the developer Pere Milà Camps. La Pedrera was Gaudi's last work before spending all his time to the construction of the Sagrada Família.
Parc Guell
Another Gaudi design, Parc Guell is a fascinating town park. The planting is imaginative and colorful, but the real star is Gaudi's hard landscaping, likefaux temples and mosaic seats.
Montjuic
The area of Montjuic is 700 ft above Barcelona's port and is chock-a-block with boutiques, galleries, cafes and museums. Don't miss the Museu Arqueologic which showcases items from early civilizations from Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. Another superb museum is the Museu Nacional d'art de Catalunya, which has a large collection of Romanesque art.
Available Cruises
Barcelona offers a big choice of itineraries. A favorite is the trip around the Western Mediterranean. Other options include the Canary Islands, Morocco, or longer trips to the Eastern Mediterranean and Greece. For more details see Barcelona Cruises.
Cruise Ship Terminals
Cruise ships berth at Port Vell. The area has become a tourist attraction by itself with a large Maremàgnum shopping center with a fun IMAX theater, and Europe's biggest aquarium. Port Vell links directly to Las Ramblas, the main Barcelona avenue packed with eateries and street entertainment that leads right into the center of the city. Las Ramblas is alternately called the singular form, La Rambla.
There are eight terminals at the Barcelona port, split into 3 locations.
Adossat Quay
Cruise Terminals A, B, C and D are located at the Adossat Quay and are the greatest distance from the city. Terminal D also has the name Palacruceros. Buses run from these terminals to the foot of Las Ramblas.
Port Vell Terminal M
Across from the WTC terminal. This ferry terminal is sometimes used for cruiseliners.
All the terminals have a taxi rank. For a map of the port see Barcelona Port Map.
Getting to the Port
From the City to the Port
Walking
For the Adossat quay cruise ship terminals, (A, B, C and D) you need to catch a shuttle bus called the Blue Bus which picks ups at the Christopher Columbus memorial and drops off at Adossat dock.
Metro
The Drassanes stop (Green Line, L3) is no more than 5 minutes by foot from the Columbus statue.
Taxi
It's easy to take a cab from the city center to the port. This is inexpensive, fare about eight euros, and quick, normally less than a quarter of an hour. .
Travelling from the Aiport to the Port
By public transport
Take the Aerobusline A1 from terminal 1, line A2 from terminal 2 to Placa Catalunya in Barcelona, service approximately every 10 minutes, then catch the metro from Catalunya to Drassanes. From Drassanes walk to the Columbus monument. Wait for the Blue bus which takes you to your cruise terminal.
Taxi
The quickest option for travelling from the airport to the port is a taxi. The trip will take you about 25 minutes and will cost you around thirty Euros in total. The cost will include per-bag extras plus additional airport and cruise port charges.

John Hancock Observatory y Willis Tower Skydeck
Wrigley Field y Soldier Field
Chinatown y Little Italy

The History Of Harput
Centrally located in eastern Anatolia, Elazig promises visitors a rich feast of history and culture.

Young Wavemakers: Youth Leadership in Ocean Conservation
Meadow Walker of the Paul Walker Foundation and Aquarium Executive Director Julie Packard with the foundation’s 2017 Ocean Leadership Youth Award recipients Ben Bence and Maria Perez.
Have you ever wondered how different the ocean would be if there were no waves, no ebb and flow of energy that sustains life on our blue planet?
Like waves, Ben Bence and Maria Perez, alums of our teen programs, are part of a driving force for ocean conservation—and they’re both only 18 years old.
The Aquarium and the Paul Walker Foundation recognized Ben and Maria earlier this year for their commitment to ocean advocacy and conservation. While their upbringings differ, it is the ocean that brings them together.
Ben Bence is a student at California State University, Monterey Bay.
Ben has never been one to shy away from getting others involved to care about the ocean as much as he does. He co-founded his high school’s environmental club, has served over 2,000 hours since joining the Aquarium as a Teen Conservation Leader and was the youngest adult mentor to middle school students in the Aquarium’s Student Oceanography Club during the 2016-2017 school year.
Eric Barajas, senior bilingual education specialist with Teen Conservation Leaders, says, “So strong is Ben's relationship to the ocean and the environment that he prioritized volunteering at the Aquarium over other extracurricular activities during his senior year. This may come as a surprise, but Ben was once a shy individual. During his years with the Teen Conservation Leaders, Ben found his voice. His enthusiasm for the ocean is infectious.”
Education Specialist Alyssa Huante adds, “Even the clothes he wears embody his love of the ocean. From his whale shirts down to his shoes made from ocean plastic pollution, he continues to inspire others to walk the talk. Ben proves every day that he is devoted to ocean conservation.”
As a full-time student at California State University, Monterey Bay, Ben’s got his sights on a career in environmental education where he hopes to “show the students I mentor that they can accomplish anything they put their minds to as long as they follow their spark and use their voice to change the world.”
We couldn’t wait for him to start that career, and have hired Ben as an education assistant instructor for the Student Oceanography Club.
Maria Perez is a student at the University of California, Berkeley.
Maria grew up in Guanajuato, Mexico before establishing roots 2,000 miles away in the lush agricultural town of Watsonville. While living in landlocked Guanajuato, Maria says she was “hardly in contact with the ocean besides what I saw on television and in movies.” As an alum of the Watsonville Area Teens Conserving Habitats program, Maria worked with students her age to better understand their role within the environment and develop their own environmental identity.
“I now understand the importance of watersheds and the land-to-sea connection,” she says. “I have learned that I am a person who cares for the environment and that I can create change around me.”
Currently attending the University of California, Berkeley, Maria reflected on the work she did as a youth educator in Watsonville. “While working in the wetlands that surround Watsonville, I taught younger students to appreciate nature and understand their role in the environment,” she says. “I believe that education is a crucial part in ensuring the protection of the ocean so that we may better understand the problems in these areas and work together toward finding solutions.”
Education staff use the words “impressive,” “inspiring” and “incredible” to describe Maria’s work to date. While she was educating other teens about conservation issues such as food waste reduction, avoiding single-use plastics and living a more sustainable lifestyle, she also earned international recognition as the second place winner of Project Green Challenge, which asks teens and college students to document their journey from conventional to conscious as they become informed, inspired, mobilized and empowered to change the world.
Bilingual Education Specialist Athena Barrios with Watsonville Area Teens Conserving Habitats says, “Maria’s commitment to conservation is one that I truly admire. I am in awe of the drive she has at such a young age. Teens like Maria make me hopeful for the future of our oceans.”
Young ocean activists like Ben and Maria truly make a difference in this world and remind us that ocean conservation can happen at any age, by anyone. Since opening its doors, the Monterey Bay Aquarium has been committed to connecting local youth with opportunities to take action on behalf of the ocean.
Whether it’s by connecting teens with marine science, learning about conservation or exploring the Monterey Bay, we are committed to empowering youth to do incredible things on behalf of the ocean and be part of the next wave of ocean activists. do any of the trio have any stuffed animals ? sorry if thats a weird question
no such thing as a weird question here at thisstableground dot internet (well, or at least my boundaries for it are much higher than this)
ruben owns a very round stuffed seal that vanessa bought for him when they went to the aquarium. it kicks around in his living room on various seats. i don’t think it’s like, a particular comfort thing, ruben has never really ascribed much personality to toys but often if it’s within arms reach he will absent-mindedly pet it because Soft and because Gift From Vanessa
vanessa has a ratty old stuffed puppy called buttercup that her mom got her for her third birthday. one of his ears is coming off, and there’s a patch on his cheek that’s totally worn through, and he’s gone from being a golden labrador to a sort of greyish labrador. when she was moving out of her mom’s place to her studio downtown she agonised for longest time over whether bringing him would just be bringing too many memories of the life and the childhood she was trying to leave behind, but she couldn’t bring herself to. buttercup now lives in a plastic bag inside a purse vanessa never uses inside a box at the back of the wardrobe, and nobody knows about his existence except for vanessa.
usnavi has been forced to dramatically downsize the collection of claw machine prize plushies that he has for some reason been hoarding for years, but he saved a few because dammit, he earned those. somewhere he has a box full of things that are deeply precious to him but too painful to look at regularly: inside that box amongst the photos and the memories, there is a well-loved, well-chewed teddy bear in roughly the same worn old state as buttercup. his name is simply ‘bear’, and abuela claudia brought him for usnavi when he was still in the NICU, when even a normal-sized teddy bear was much, much bigger than he was. bear was, prior to benny moving to the barrio, usnavi’s very best friend.
