An Open Letter to a Friend who’s gone;

I have these moments where I get so mad and frustrated. You accomplished so much and in the end didn’t get to push through all this bullshit. You told me you loved sleepovers cause you felt like one of the girls. Even though I’m a boy now I’m glad i got to be a part of that. I struggled so long with my Gender and you fought to express yours in high school. You’re a cute woman with amazing tastes in clothes. A girl who loves bugs? I should’ve asked you to hang out at the insect house. I should’ve talked bugs with you more. You were smart and kind to things others shun. I try to be like that.

You were my one and only other trans friend and you weren’t quiet about it. I keep my head down out fear and you shouted despite your fear. There was something important to me being friends with you.. even if I wasn’t one of your closest friends or you mine. Our relationship was still important to me and spoke of you often to my spouse.

I realize I loved you and you really meant something to me. Perhaps I should’ve spoken with you more but I‘lol carry that weight. I won’t dwell in what I should’ve done. That does no good.

When I spoke to you I spoke true and honest and that I am proud of. I do have a hard time connecting and reaching out but you always responded with joy and compassion. I got to be me. I’m angry, I wanted to show you my Lolita clothes, secretly I wanted to learn to sew and make you a dress, I wanted to play my hello kitty island adventure together, I wanted to see a place where both of us get to live a life free of trans hate.

So I guess I’ll do those things still, I’ll be myself and I’ll enjoy life. I’m angry and sad you’re gone but I’m happy that hate did not take your life. I’m happy you were loved and I’m happy to have been a small part of your impactful life.
