Genuine thought as a fellow trans dude, I’ve seen a lot of (obviously non-serious) questions on other blogs about characters’ genitals such as “how does it look like?” and similar, and I think we all know & understand that such questions are extremely inappropriate to ask and (I hope) no one would actually go around asking these questions irl. Idk, I think we should treat trans characters just like cis ones, without any special “precautions”, so to normalise them and not make cis people treat them like fragile boxes, a thing which happens to a lot of us irl. Hope this doesn’t come off as an attack or anything lol.

no worries, i didn't take this as an attack at all. i actually agree with you, that's why i mentioned feeling conflicted about it and also mentioned that i've changed my stance on how i felt about handling Noel and Clementine in game and in explicit intimate scenes.

however, for me the problem comes from the fact that people... don't ask these kinds of questions about cis characters? i suppose people do get cheeky "who is the biggest 🤪" asks but i would hardly compare the two. to be a bit crude, no one is going to be asking if a cis character has a dick or not, or "what does it look like". of course it's natural for people to be curious, and i honestly encourage the open discussion and am happy to see trans bodies being talked about more in a positive way, but not everyone is going to be comfortable with it due to the inescapable transphobia online and in the community. sending me that kind of ask is like sending out an invitation for a debate or a discussion that i don't necessarily want to have. i also just don't think people should default to asking a random IF author on tumblr dot com to describe what bottom growth looks like.

and with most of these asks typically coming from someone who is anonymous, i have no way of truly knowing what the tone is, what their intentions are or why this is being asked - is it another trans person? or maybe someone who is just genuinely curious? or, more likely in my experience, is it someone who is going to immediately follow up this message with something transphobic after i answer? do i want to roll the dice and find out?

so while i agree with what you're saying, it's important to consider the context and the reality we live in. the IF community is not kind to trans people or trans characters. and as a trans person, my first priority is protecting myself and my mental health. so what i mean when i say "precautions," is that those precautions are for me, because i've had to deal with transphobic harassment here for years now, and i try to mitigate it as much as i can. it's also for my personal comfort - again, to be blunt, i'm simply just not comfortable discussing a trans character's genitals with anonymous strangers on the internet. it makes me feel vulnerable.

also i do want to say i didn't mean for any of that to come across as a dig at other authors - if you're comfortable answering those kinds of questions, that's really only something you can decide for yourself. like i said, this is just coming from my own experiences in IF and for my own personal comfort - i have previously talked a lot about trans stuff and gender and sexuality here, when i'm feeling up to it, but it is something that is very draining for me and can also be very upsetting.

basically: i do agree that it's important not to other trans characters or treat them any differently than cis characters, but i also think there are ways to do it that don't require me answering invasive questions or questions that i don't feel comfortable with as a real life trans person, you know what i mean?

I don’t get why people think people hate Bramblestar just because of the Moonkitti video. I hated him for years before that- it didn’t even affect my view on him ‘cause I hated how boring of a POV he was and how he was so easily manipulated and how he treated the three after their parentage was revealed.

There are many reasons to dislike him that have nothing to do with Squilf. Heck, for a while I hated both of them equally (former Ashfur stan).

Honestly I think it could be down to having a scapegoat, and it’s probably not an intentional thought process for most. If they can conveniently blame people not liking their fav on one specific thing and paint everyone under the same brush, then they don’t have to think or fight about as to why people may have other reasons not to like him other than “it’s because Moonkitti said so” and then completely dismissing her video as just bias (which in itself is very disingenuous).

Granted moonkittis video did most definitely bring the topic of him being an abuser to a wider audience, but a few videos about it came out before then and online discussion about the matter had been pretty rife, she most definitely wasn’t the first, I made a post a post about that topic myself within days of reading SqH when it was released lol. Furthermore a question they should ask themselves is, if Moonkittis video is really that terribly produced and full of bias, then why did so many people connect with it the way they did? Although I guess the answer for that is along the lines of they love Squilf and/or Moonkitti. And there’s been no major pushback against the video as far as I am aware that hasn’t contained biases, like the one TikTok that was going around that was very popular in pro brambleclaw circles that contained claims that Squirrelflight is what drove Brambleclaw to train in the dark forest and that she intentionally used him to make Ashfur jealous (something that is specifically proven false by Twilight). I think it’s very hypocritical personally to claim the Moonkitti video had biases but then turn around and share that and claim it has none.

Also think it’s kind of funny how this 4 year old video is still being blamed for the dislike for Brambleclaw. Apparently no one who watched and agreed with it has thought critically about a character who is still very prominent in the series for 4 years.

This isn’t against anyone who likes Brambleclaw by the way, I do definitely see why he appeals. I personally do really like him up until the second half of TNP! But I really hate how Moonkitti is used and treated as a boogeyman by certain Brambleclaw fans. This poor woman has been harassed to hell and back and is constantly slated by a certain section of fans. Like yeah treating a woman who has done nothing to you except not like your fav like the Antichrist and characterise anyone who has similar views to her as some kind of mindless Squirrelstar or Moonkitti worshipping drone isn’t really going to get anyone on your side.

Don’t get me wrong if a popular creator accused a favourite character of mine that I personally thought was morally good of being an abuser I would be upset too. I totally understand that. I’m not blaming people for being upset but I am blaming them for the ways certain people are channeling this upset.

i know we all like to talk about teh many not-so-great things about teh writing in warrior cats, but i really like how they did teh reveal of teh twist in power of three. it was foreshadowed really well without being obvious, and it was very dramatic and fun! i love plot twists in general so i might be biased.

Honestly, yeah. I never read that part (library at my school only went to Eclipse), but I knew from reading online stuff.

I had the feeling something was up, and going back and rereading TNP (Especially having read Po3 first, my order of reading was wack) made my jaw drop.

It was a well-done twist. Could it have been better done? Yes, but so could everything. I'll give credit where it is due, Hollyleaf's religious trauma induced breakdown was uncomfortable. As someone who no longer experiences what could called 'Faith' due to poor experiences with it, Hollyleaf is intriguing because we were taught the same stuff.

The foreshadowing was good! Those who caught it, caught it, and were satisfied. Those who didn't were SHOOK. I still remember people (hilariously) wondering if Tigerstar and Hawkfrost even knew, I'm in camp "Tiger didn't know but Hawk did and didn't care".

Part of the foreshadowing if I remember correctly was also one of the very, very few moment where being fat wasn't mocked. I believe the line was, in context, about Thunderclan doing well in their new home, so well in fact that "even the slender Leafpool was looking plump"

Her being plump having been a good thing and a reference to how healthy they all were was awesome, but also knowing that she was in early to mid pregnancy? That was the little tipoff that made me go "Oh they actually planned this one!"

If only they took that same mentality to every other arc but people whinged about "muh continuity lockout" like the books don't spell it out to you come ON yall. Ivypool's Heart mentions Bristlefrost's Fridge like 40 times in the first 2 chapters.

I liked they way the twist was handled initially, and while I will say, of course Leafpool did nothing wrong, the three had a right to not exactly be happy about things. You're allowed to be upset that you were lied to, especially something like this.

Everyone handled it relatively in character too, except Firestar and Sandstorm but they stopped being characters when Firestar's Quest ended. Hey ho, it was actually a good twist and I feel like they tried to invoke it with Onestar and Darktail.

End-of-year book asks

What were your top five books of the year?

Hmmm... In no particular order:

The Book of Night with Moon - Extremely fun urban fantasy story with the added bonus it's CATS! Won me over to Diane Duane immediately and it was fun reading with y'all. As I said before, not a word wasted with this one. You can really tell she's a master of her craft.

The Big Meow - Great send off to Feline Wizards as a trilogy. I really enjoy how all threads of the previous two books were wrapped up and it really felt like it had an appropriately grand scale. Felt very much like a return to form after the slightly disappointing middle entry, To Visit the Queen.

8 Mindful Steps to Happiness - This year I have been reading more Buddhist books and revisiting a lot of the books that first got me interested in exploring this path over the last 7 years after finally officially converting. This book by Bhante Henepola Gunaratana is my top recommendation for newcomers and Buddhi-curious folks alike.

Open Heart, Clear Mind - Speaking of Buddhist reads this year, this one was the textbook the Sravasti Abbey Friends Education (SAFE) online program courses 1A and 1B which I have been taking this year. I really enjoyed doing the readings and listening to Venerable Thubten Chodron's audio teachings to go along with it every week.

Emptiness and Omnipresence: An Essential Introduction to Tiantai Buddhism - This one's an outlier in my Buddhist reads this year, as it was written by a professor of philosophy that specializes in Asian schools of thought rather than a monastic teacher writing from the perspective of the tradition they practice. Nevertheless, I found it very in line with what I've read from monastics and I feel like the more academic (yet still highly accessible!) tone really gives an interesting alternate perspective to this all.

What genre did you read the most of?

As can probably be guessed from above, mostly Buddhist books! If my count is not mistaken I read 6, the three above plus good karma by Venerable Thubten Chodron, and Mindfulness in Plain English and The Four Foundations of Mindfulness in Plain English both by Bhante Henepola Gunaratana.

Cat xenofiction is a runner up with 4, A Starless Clan books 5 and 6 came out this year, I believe, plus the Feline Wizards trilogy, making 5. It would be a tie if I had finished Ivypool's Heart. OH WAIT! I did read The New Prophecy books 1 and 2 , and am close to the end on the 3rd. Let's go with cat xenofiction then.

But to be fair, I didn't really set any specific ones. I did want to read the TNP box set I got for my birthday but ughhhh. The first half of TNP is kinda tedious.

Radio TNP Radio Tempo Não Pára, beter bekend als Radio TNP, is een onafhankelijk online radiostation met een studio gevestigd in Amsterdam-Noord. TNP richt zich op dj's die net iets anders kunnen neerzetten, maar daar geen podium voor krijgen. Elke vrijdag en zaterdag is er een muzikant te gast die live optreedt. De organisatie is non-profit en wordt volledig gerund door vrijwilligers. In de studio zijn ook regelmatig kunstexposities te bezoeken, en iedereen die meer over TNP wil weten is te allen tijde welkom om binnen te lopen.

Cinetol Cinetol is een poppodium gevestigd in Amsterdam. Het biedt een podium aan muzikanten, filmmakers en andere kunstenaars. Ik ken Cinetol vooral omdat vrienden van mij die in beginnende bandjes spelen hier de kans krijgen om hun talent te laten zien. De programmering wordt verzorgd door Paradiso, en artiesten die optreden in Cinetol zijn later in hun carrière vaak terug te vinden in de programmering van Paradiso.

Vondelbunker De Vondelbunker in Amsterdam is een culturele ruimte met een zeer bijzondere locatie. Het bevindt zich namelijk midden in het Vondelpark, onder de brug waar tram 3 overheen rijdt. De ruimte is een voormalige atoomschuilkelder uit 1947. In de ruimte worden regelmatig verschillende evenementen georganiseerd, zoals muziekoptredens, theatervoorstellingen, filmvertoningen, workshops en kunstexposities. De Vondelbunker heeft ook een politieke dimensie, omdat het zich sterk verzet tegen gentrificatie en commerciële belangen in het centrum van Amsterdam. Het staat open voor experimenten en nieuwe ideeën die in lijn zijn met hun streven. De Vondelbunker draait volledig op een klein collectief van vrijwilligers en heeft een niet-hiërarchische structuur, wat veel muzikanten aanspreekt.

Wat alle drie de organisaties gemeen hebben, is dat ze een podium bieden aan opkomend talent. Dit is iets waar ik veel waarde aan hecht. Er zijn veel mensen die proberen een carrière in de muziekwereld op te bouwen, maar het is soms moeilijk om door te breken als je niet de juiste connecties hebt. Bij deze organisaties krijgen artiesten de kans om te netwerken en hun talent met de buitenwereld te delen.

Als student in Kunst en Economie zie ik hier veel potentiële baanmogelijkheden, omdat juist de organisatorische kant van deze organisaties mij erg aanspreekt. Het zoeken naar nieuw talent en hen een podium bieden is iets waar ik me verder in zou willen verdiepen.

tpb, tnp, tbc, avos, pot! under the cut i added some explanations

1. the prophecies begins. mostly because it’s the nostalgia, but i think this arc had some of the most interesting stuff going on. it also had like a pretty different quality compared to the other books and i think (after rusty joins) the pacing is good. this arc was very simple but in a good way. 

only issue is that it’s very predictable, esp for a story aimed at slightly older kids. and during this arc it felt that the erins were still fleshing the world out, as some things are brought up and then forgotten.

2. the new prophecy. kind of nostalgic; i really loved this book when i was younger. i enjoyed both journeys. i liked when the clans were being friendly to each other. hawkfrost wasn’t the best villain but he definitely had the potential to be a good one. the whole beef between windclan and thunderclan was almost interesting.

only issue is i didn’t care too much about the newly introduced characters. leafpool and bramblestar had the most irritating povs; i hated bramblestar and squilf’s constant arguing. alone, they were ok characters. crowfeather was almost my favorite from the arc until he was dragged into that stupid romantic plot, which i felt harmed his character. the tribe was unnecessary.

3. broken code. pretty good! definitely wasn’t amazing but had some good moments. liked shadowsight and enjoyed the mystery of this arc.

4. a vision of shadows. didn’t enjoy the entirety of the series and the characters were pretty annoying. despite what people say, i did think needletail was alright.

5. power of three. had some of my favorite cats, the characters are pretty distinct, and it has interesting concepts. tbh however, we would have been better off with the arc as there is a lot of inconsistency and doesn’t actually add much to the main series.

6. omen of the stars. didn’t like the characters but the story was ok ig. i couldn’t enjoy all of it though.

didn’t read dawn of the clans but i’ve been hearing good things about it. and a starless clan hasn’t finished yet but unfortunately the first book isn’t all that good and i don’t really have any high hopes for this arc.

honestly same...I also only stick to reading the same ifs I've been reading since like 2 years ago + as a disabled lgbt person this community has gotten to toxic to interact wth tbh

hmmm putting this under a read more but here's some ramblings about my personal experience as well as some advice if anyone wants it

before i started writing tnp, when i was just a reader, it was very easy to curate my space and avoid a lot of the nastier people (especially back when the forums were the main space for people to talk about IF. i didn't go on the forums at all) and i was very much outside of the fandom and followed only like one artist whose recommendations i started off with before finding more stuff on my own.

once i became an author though it is impossible to avoid certain groups of people and it's really hard to hold on to that comfortable space. over the last like 3 years now my audience has definitely changed and dwindled a lot due to my.... Big personality but before that i had to endure a lot of harassment, people stalking me, people harassing my friends just for being my friend, almost constant transphobia and racism, and even now i still have people that seem to just camp in my inbox waiting for any opportunity to try and hurt me/get a reaction out of me.

i've been pretty open about all of this stuff happening too which most people also don't like, though that seems to be pretty standard across any fandom when you try to talk about how bad they are. i'm never really surprised when other authors delete without any warning or they just slowly stop posting and never come back. it's definitely something i've wanted to do more than once and still think about sometimes. even now after finally seeming to find my "niche" and a more understanding audience, it's really hard and i struggle with finding inspiration and motivation because of how people have treated me.

unfortunately i think it's always been this way, it's the nature of sharing work online and especially with IF feeling so "collaborative" people really feel entitled to it. and i also see readers facing this same kind of harassment, too, so it's definitely not just an author problem.

my advice is to just block and ignore people as best you can and just stay in your own little bubble with your friends or at least people that you trust. if you're an author going through any of the things i mentioned then just know there are a lot of other authors that have had to go through it, too, and that you should also just block and ignore to the best of your ability. just because you're an author doesn't mean you have to tolerate it. i used to respond to a lot of messages which is why i feel that a lot of my harassment lasted for so long, because they thought it was "funny" to upset me, but the more you respond and give them attention the more they'll keep doing it. so just block anons and move on (i know i make it sound so simple. trust me i used to be really bad about it, now i try to take at least a day or two before responding and usually by that time i realize how stupid it is and i just delete it without any fanfare)

at the end of the day though it's your decision, and your well-being comes first before anything else. i say this to both authors and readers, there's no reason to force yourself to stay in a place that makes you uncomfortable or is triggering. sometimes it's better to just let go and move on, though i know that's easier said than done. i'm a prime example as someone who still logs into tumblr daily despite trying really hard not to do that.

and i'm not saying to give up on your work, but rather that writing privately is always an option, and it's what i've been doing now with my other projects ever since i took siren's call down. i know the desire for outside validation can be overwhelming but i think it's important to remember that you should be writing this for yourself first and that there's no harm in keeping your work private until you're ready. tumblr is fun but there's also a lot of problems that can be difficult to deal with while you're also trying to keep motivation and creativity up to write your story, and it can be really discouraging.

like i said, your first priority should be yourself, and if you have to step back away from tumblr/fandom then you should & you shouldn't feel guilty about it.

all of that to say that there are nice people out there, too, i've made really good friends here and i really value their friendship and their understanding, especially when i was going through the worst of it. and there are a lot of readers who have been very kind to me and that have sent me very nice messages and drawn lovely art over the years and i always try to focus on that over everything else.

it can be really easy to get overwhelmed by all the negativity and hostility which is why it's so important to find your people and be supportive of each other.

🦊 re Warriors Kingdoms specifically: A fantasy AU of Warriors that I began writing when I was 13 (though I’ve now rewritten and updated some early chapters of Into the Fire) with the intention of fitting the series to my new gimmick and also making changes where I wanted to. This blog used to be dedicated to answering questions about it but I’ve now moved all that to @warriors-kingdoms. All posts about it that remain on this blog are tagged as ‘AU Posts.’ Any asks about the AU that are sent to akitsune-lune will now be screenshotted and posted on WK with their answers!

[XXIX In MMXIX/The Noir Project II]

Keihancarl here. Please pardon the lack of posts on TWATKcox-Main as I'm still in the process of transferring all of the blog posts from my WordPress site to its new home on Weebly. Anyway, I'll turn 29 in a few days, and there's a planned concept for that.

Five years ago, I created The Noir Project featuring a mix of black and white pics and some of my selfies wearing all-black outfits. This, despite the title, isn't noir photography.

Initially planned as a themed concept (more of a selfie pictorial) for my 24th birthday, this eventually turned into a series of black and white photographs and selfies that lasted until early 2015. These pics are uploaded to my private Instagram account @kcox105 (formerly @kinkeihanxxist), and a few select photos are featured on a QuirkCon post.

For TNP's second incarnation (The Noir Project II), I'll just focus on the pics. Maybe I'll feature some dark themed photography, plus some selfies. Right now, I need to prep up for the weekend. The outfit choice will probably include the black fleece coat, but who knows?

I also come up with an alternate title, XXIX in MMXIX (29 in 2019), which is a fitting name for this concept since I’m turning 29 this year. Please pardon my obsession with Roman numerals, by the way.

Expect a TKD post by the end of October and the first set of TNP pics by mid-November. Right now, the main blog is still a work in progress, but you can visit my new online home here. And yes, I'm still keeping the original WP site active, but only invited readers will have access to it.
