Soooo frustrating that the failure of Data and Jenna’s relationship is put down to her going from “a relationship with an unemotional man” to one “with a man who is absolutely incapable of emotion”. That is Not why it went wrong. She went from a relationship where she felt neglected to one with a man who was extremely attentive towards her, and then when he acted like Himself in ways that didn’t gel with what she wanted, instead of being charmed by him delivering a “critical analysis” of her gift (as anyone should be to be worthy of dating Data), she tries push him towards acting more how she wants, and then is thrown when he goes overboard this. The problem is not Data’s ~lack of emotions~, the problem is his good nature and willingness to conform being taken advantage of, and this backfiring. The conclusion of the episode should be the two of them recognising That – given it’s 1) what actually happened and also 2) wayy more interesting, imo.

I asked in a Star Trek discord, ran a bunch of searches, and assigned a point each time an episode was listed among the scariest/creepiest in Star Trek. The episodes are ranked from least to most spooky, so watch in this order if you want to build up to the spookiest stuff. I cut off the list at 31, one episode for each day in October.

I imagine it was because they found the juxtaposition striking and therefore a ~novelty worth having as the focal point of an episode, but Data does just come off as the kindest member of the enterprise crew, because he’s the one who spends several episodes looking out for someone else for no personal/professional gain. And it just comes off like to him it’s a matter of course to do what makes Lal/Jenna/Keiko&O’Brien/Timothy/[the girl whose planet was going to explode or something and who looked like she was from whoville] happy.
