Agent Bishop is to TMNT what Harley Quinn is to Batman.
#if I had a nickel for every time an absolutely iconic villain was created specifically for a TV adaptation of a comic#then became a mainstay in their respective franchise and showed up in every subsequent iteration#to the extend some fans are unaware they werenāt a part of the original source material#I would have two nickels#which isnāt a lot but itās weird it happened twice#tmnt 2003#tmnt 03#green speaks#I think about this a lot#ANYWAY

I don't wanna get ahead of myself (especially since I'm still so early on in the story) but Mirage peaked in issue #10. It's their best one
We got action packed scenes, we got anxiety inducing scenes, emotional ones, the return of Casey Motherfucking Jones, that incredibly sweet moment with April and Leo (that to this day still thugs my heartstrings in 03 because they adapted it soo well), Raph being his silly self while not taking away from the severity of the issue (funnily enough I think 87 Raph is the closest in personality to Mirage Raph, from what I've seen others talk about)
#tmnt#tmnt mirage#tmnt comics#vicky watches tmnt#teenage mutant ninja turtles#like no kidding. i could reread mirage 10 forever and not get tired ITS SOO GOOD#which makes sense since the 03 adaptation of this issue is also my favorite episode of the whole series#(taking into account i watched 03 first before reading mirage)#im not the biggest mirage fan. ill defend it if i see an injustice being done. but i can also jump the ship quite quickly lmao#my praises are high i guess im trying to say

okay i cant stop thinking about a tmnt au based on sweet tooth where the turtles are abandoned hybrid children Splinter found and then raised out in the woods somewhere to keep them safe
#it wouldnt be a proper retelling of either story or anything#more like adapting the tmnt characters to the sweet tooth setting#so it would be more like following characters who are in a different part of the world to the sweet tooth characters yknow#and not a 'characters meet each other' crossover#i also cant decide if i want it to be based on a specific tmnt iteration or if i wanna build it up from scratch like the uhhhh fan reboots#ive already got two different personal aus/iterations im building from scratch so#idk if i wanna do another (just in this setting) or if i wanna yoink a specific pre-existing version of the turtles#im just obsessed with the setting of sweet tooth and obsessed with the tmnt characters ghjksdh#idk how much overlap there is between turtle fans and people who have at least seen sweet tooth#but i need to scream about this hgjksh#tmnt#tmnt au#teenage mutant ninja turtles#teenage hybrid ninja turtles#teetles

40 years ago, two best friends came together one night to create something that could make the other laugh.
What began as a silly joke shifted into an idea to turn this strange premise into a comic. From there, it snowballed to turn into a television series, then an independently-funded film that made history which started the phenomenon that was felt around the world; Turtlemania.
And from there? The rest is history.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has become such a pop-culture icon in the decades that itās been around. Even if youāve never had the same experience of watching the show thereās a chance you know the OG theme song. Ask any random Joe on the street whoās the most popular turtle and thereās a chance theyāll say Mikey. Not only has it outlasted the test of time, but itās proven to people that the craziest dreams can come true through perseverance and determination. Itās a franchise thatās created a lifelong fan base full of dedicated people who work to support and create new things with each other, who are so welcoming and talented and wildly imaginative. Itās a storyline with characters that have been so lovable and cherished by thousands for years. It was an idea that most scoffed at and turned down because of the absurd concept of mutated turtles fighting crime dressed up like ninja.
And yet it worked.
Against all odds it worked.
And for the past forty years, itās BEEN working.
No matter how many times this franchise gets a reboot/ reimagining/ adaptation, everyone who adores these turtles keep coming back to tune in on their current adventures. Through the years the stories became more defined, more fleshed out, almost growing up with the audience just like how Toy Story did. And as the 2010ās came around the shows coming out also got to introduce a brand new generation of fans to the world of the TMNT, as well as the films! Itās themes of family resonate with everyoneā ANYONE can find something to enjoy in watching or reading these stories.
This franchise clearly clicks with people.
TMNT isnāt only a comic book that started out an indie parody of the modern heroes of the time, IE Daredevil, but it was made by two passionate artists that had a deep respect and adoration for the craft of art and storytelling. They cared about these characters and people saw that. Still see that today. Are STILL going to see it with all the brand new comics and show on the horizon!
And I, for one, am so happy to be able to see what comes next. I love these turtles š„¹
So, Happy 40th Anniversary, dudes! Cowabunga!! š

is this a safe space? because I need to have a (positive) rant but I might seem a bit unhinged in the process
but please, for the love of god, if you're a tianshan and/or He brothers fan and you're dying from the lack of 19 days content lately, let me put you on to something.
I've been trying not to talk about it because this show is a guilty (and nostalgic) pleasure of mine, but for the last week or two I've been obsessively rewatching teenage mutant ninja turtles (2012)
HEAR ME OUT. š«µš¼
it's a nickelodeon show, yes, I know, but please. hear me out before you make a face, lol!
tmnt is one of those shows that had an established fanbase before its release so not only is the quality of the animation excellent, but the voice actors and writers do such an amazing job. the plot is well-planned and intentional, the show gets notably better as it goes on because of its growing success with its audience (it gets very obvious budget increases for each season lol), and the relationships. oh my god the characters' relationships. they're so top tier.
if you know me from my tianshan fics, you know that I'm obsessed with strained, resentful, angsty relationships that slowly improve as the characters learn to trust each other while experiencing strife and mutual trauma. it's practically the foundation of tianshan, and it's also the definition of the brother-brother relationship between raphael and leonardo in tmnt. and it's so fucking delicious every single time.
I don't want to spoil too much in case anyone actually reads this post and decides to watch tmnt for the first time, but basically at the beginning of the show (and in all other adaptations of tmnt, as far as I'm aware) raphael resents the fact that leonardo is made the leader of their team. they butt heads all the time, they can never agree, raph is a stubborn/reckless hothead and leo is (occasionally) an insufferable, self-righteous golden child in their family. theyāre literally red vs blue ā their dynamic could not be more oppositional.
but at the same time, they're each other's right-hand man??? it's complicated. as the two oldest(?) siblings in the family (as well as the most skilled siblings), they kinda need each other and they hate that they do ā at least raph does. and for a while, their relationship goes up and down over and over again until bam ā āØtraumaāØ. and I won't spoil what the trauma is. but it's so fucking delicious. the cinematography and voice acting of certain scenes in the season finales keep me up at night
for a nickelodeon show, I'm impressed by the depth of the plot and characters. it's very reminiscent of the complexity of atla's plot and characters. and yes, I've only mentioned raph & leo's relationship so far, but that's only because I tend to hyperfixate on two characters in every fandom I'm in, lol. but all the characters are so meaningful and the brothers' relationships with each other make me want to slam my head against concrete because it makes me feel so much. especially raphael and michelangelo's relationship, too. iykyk.
the show is so silly but also so angsty and also so stupid but also so sincere. the vibes really do remind me of 19 days in so many ways. the boys in tmnt are 15 years old, much like the boys in 19 days. michaelangelo is basically jian yi and raphael is basically guan shan. leonardo is kinda like zheng xi, if zheng xi was more assertive and expressive. but no one's like he tian, lol. sorry. he's a beast of his own. (unless, maybe, another character named karai is comparable to him? you tell me).
anyway. whatever the voice actors, writers, and animators were getting paid throughout the show's production wasn't fucking enough. there was clearly so much heart put into the show because tmnt has been a beloved franchise for a long time and nickelodeon was not messing around when they decided to take it on.
another bonus point is that the episodes are only 20ish minutes long, there are 20+ episodes in every season, there are 5 seasons, and the show is completed. you won't be left on a cliff hanger. you can binge to your heart's content like I've been doing. and usually the season finale episodes are longer than the normal ones (they're split into two parts), which always means shit goes down. god it's so fantastic.
if you decide to watch tmnt and know nothing about it, I recommend you do not seek out spoilers. because there are many spoilers and plot twists. push through the cringe and silly moments (much like we sometimes have to do with 19 days lol) and eventually you'll get to the heart of the characters/plot. and my god, it's so worth it!
tmnt was the first fandom I ever wrote fanfic for, over a decade ago. I was watching it as episodes were being actively released on a weekly basis. and it's been so long since I've touched the tmnt fandom, so it feels like I'm watching the show for the first time again. I only have vague memories of significant plot points/scenes, so it's been such a ride to slowly remember how everything plays out. and I'm kicking myself for not rewatching tmnt sooner, because I clearly forgot how special it was to me at a certain point in my life!
the show is so feel-good and relaxing (but it does have its stressful moments, don't get me wrong). if you've got time to spare, give it a shot and let me know what you think! I'm only at the beginning of season 3, so I'm still working through the episodes myself! :)
if you want to know where you can watch it for free, DM me! <3
#19 days#fay talks#this is such a long post but PLEASE i promise it's worth it#the show is basically like the vibes of 19 days but in animation form#idk I think some people in the 19 days fandom would enjoy it!

I will always cite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as my reason for why comic book IPs that get multiple on-screen iterations shouldn't be afraid to make changes to what we know about the characters.
It's because of that that every iteration of the TMNT has a passionate fanbase that loves the shit out of their respective version.
Like, look at the different versions of Splinter (forgive any clerical errors as it has been a while since I've seen some adaptations)
A martial arts master that was mutated into a rat
A pet rat that studied the moves of his owner to learn martial arts before mutating
A man that lost his wife and daughter to Shredder, mutated into a rat, and sees the turtles as his second chance of having a family
A rat who along with the turtles, is the reincarnation of an ancient ninja warrior and his four sons
A man that adopted an inert, pacifistic lifestyle after being mutated against his will and forced to fight for 10 years.
A rat that just stumbled into a father role and is just doing his best, using martial arts training videos to teach his kids self-defense
And this is just Splinter. This makes TMNT fun every single time it gets a new adaptation, whether I end up liking it or not, and I wish comic book fans offered that same grace to other IPs.

Aside from Baxine, do you have your own original takes or versions of Baxter?
3 versions funny enough actually. Back during my sophomore year of highschool when I was still a big TMNT fan. I made my own fanmade adaptations. But I didn't stop at 1. I made 3 different adaptations. With the 3 different tones we've seen in the turtles over the years.
(yeah I never got around to digital drawing them)
First one was called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Power. Tone wise, it was a good balance of mature but funny. (Think IDW & 2012).
This Baxter is a young innovative inventor who starts off honest much like his 87 counterpart, suggesting his MOUSERS to a shark tank like company only to be laughed at & mocked. When he leaves to find another company to take his work, Hun approaches him & tricks him into making an army to go after the turtles (again, unaware like 87) which of course leads to the turtles going after him & getting him arrested. But Shredder himself bails him out of jail & manipulates him from there.
My second adaptation, simply labeled "Ninja Turtles" Which follows the more darker & mature route (Mirage & 2003) I never did fully finish working on this take but I do know I did have a story for this Baxter. Now THIS Baxter is much more in line with his IDW & Mirage counterpart. He doesn't take shit from anybody, he won't hesitate to end you if you're a liability or so & he's always 20 steps ahead of everybody. Right next to him you see an unfinished version of Krang who he does eventually gain a partnership with somewhere deeper in the story & you think Krang has the upper hand & treats Baxter bad like the status quo of every version. But nope. Baxters just been pretending to be his weakling & ends up not only betraying Krang after he got what he needed but killing him too! Instantly becoming the new big bad of that season afterwards.
And my 3rd & Final adaptation "Turtle Power" follows the more lighthearted & comedic route (Rise & 87)
As for my final Baxter. Getting it out the way with now, Yes he is white in this one. Like I mentioned in my other ask, even tho I prefer him black, I genuinely don't care what race he is. That includes my own takes on him too. So if you're gonna bitch about this. Please don't. I'm just going to immediately delete your response & block you. Like I said in the other ask. His race was never a big deal.
As for this version as a character. I do admit he's going through his usual underdog status (mostly 2012) who just wants to have his name known in the world. But he also starts off as an honest man, but his desperation for respect especially with the bullying he's had in his life is what ultimately leads him into crossing over to the bad side. He's also April's childhood best friend in this version, so that's also going to be a really heart tugging arc in this adaptation especially with what happens to him later on. Feeling like she failed to save her best friend from all of this.
And those are pretty much my own Baxter Stockmans plus the adaptations they came with.

I am once again thinking of RWBY crossovers. Specifically a TMNT-RWBY crossover. Which wouldn't be the weirdest crossover these characters had since all of them met Batman at one point.
I'd take a page from the RWBY-JL crossover and translate the Turtles into the RWBY universe. It's not too difficult to adapt their setting for RWBY, honestly.
We can have them and Splinter - and pretty much any other mutant - be faunuses. Hamato Yoshi can be a Huntsman who got kicked out of the Foot Clan when it became a bunch of merciless mercenaries, and later adopted four turtles faunus who were orphaned by Grimm, taught them how to fight, to build their own weapons and use their abilities to do good and help others, becoming the father they needed.
We can keep the "Half-Shell Heroes of the Shadows" angle by having them be unlicensed Huntsman and act like vigilantes with no regard for the system created by Ozpin.
The meeting between the Turtles and Team RWBY would be great. First, they fight of course, we need to see that happen. But once things calm down and we can have some fun, there's so much that can be done:
-Blake and Leo just quietly enjoying each other's company, and maybe sparring a bit.
-Ruby and Mikey just having way too much energy at all times.
-Weiss and Donnie being the ones who hold the brain cells of their teams.
-Yang and Raph being Yang and Raph at each other.
For the villains, we can keep Shredder as a megalomaniac conqueror who wants to take over the world with his army of ninjas. Depending on which part of the RWBY timeline this would take place, there are different things we can do with Saki. If it takes place during the war against Salem, we can have him offer his services to her at some point, of course as an arrogant ploy to take her out and take everything over. Or, if it takes place after the war, we can have Shredder take advantage of the kingdoms trying to rebuild to strike and seek power.
And for secondary villains that we can bring for both cool fights and character exploration. We can do something with a few of the excellent mutants introduced in the IDW comics like Alopex, Koya and Bludgeon. And of course, bring the classic Bebop Rocksteady.
And of course, the most important thing when it comes to the villains: Making RWBY fans aware that Karai exists.

so the mutant mayhem series...
look im happy to get another show and im open to watching it and i will give it a chance.
but some stuff in the trailers really rubs me the wrong way.
april saying "isnt your whole thing a costume" in reference to ...just their bodies is icky and im dissapointed her kinda being mean to them is gonna continue. like- its not an initial shock thing like with 2003 and 2012 april its just "sure we're friends but im gonna call out how different you are even though your WHOLE goal is to fit in and be accepted.". i like her design and her story seems interesting and i hope she gets a real arc unlike a lot of aprils but like- the comments are un-necessary and it feels like shes making fun of them instead of being a supportive friend. [if theres an episode where the guys get fed up and talk to her, possibly having a lesson about expressing to your friends when youre uncomfortable with what they do then ill be overjoyed because that message NEEDS to be in kids shows and it would clarify april just didnt know it bothered them and would tone it down because she doesnt wanna hurt her friends]
in a trailer the others got praise and when it was mikeys turn someone was like "oh what do you do?" and mikey doesnt have a real answer. as a mikey fan i just cannot stand the constant dismissal he gets. if the series is gonna expand on that and take it seriously im totally in though.
i didnt mind the movie artstyle. its not something i enjoy and it kinda gave me a headache in theaters but objectivly there is nothing weong with it and a lot of work and talent was put into it. the show style is...ehhh? i dont like it. i dont hate it. i dont really enjoy the color palette. its not appealing to me and an art style can really change how much i enjoy a show.
and why does leo sound so much older. i cant be the only one hearing that right? like i know thats fairly standard for the shows but the movie had all this hype about the guys sounding and acting their age so???
and structure wise i feel like this is going to feel more like kim possible and spiderman instead of tmnt? cause like ...a HUGE part has always been theyre a secret and they work in the shadows cause theyre ninjas and now theyre just in the open. im ok with change- all franchizes NEED to change and adapt but im not gonna get hopeful till i see it done well int he actual show
speaking of that this is a reminder i by no means think the show will be bad. i want it to be awesome and fun and make its mark like other tmnt shows and films have! i just had to get this off my chest cause it was bothering me. im sure the show WILL be good cause i havent watched a tmnt show i outright disliked yet. the trailers just rubbed me the wrong way.
#tmnt#teenage mutant ninja turtles#tmnt mutant mayhem#tmnt ramble#tmnt rant#mutant mayhem#restating in tags i do like these versions of the characters#i like april- i like the guys#im just mixed on the show from what ive seen

its too early to say anything obviously but so far i have to wonder if theres a rat king situation afoot :3 rise is a great space for fan comics bc theres soooo many classic tmnt characters (villains in particular) that didnt make it into the show that u have pretty much complete freedom over what you think happens next!! i dont really have a conclusion just wanted to say im really loving the comic so far and am super excited to see whats next :D
oooooooh interesting thought :0! But yes I agree, Rise is such a fun playground for fans to bring back characters from older series. I really appreciate how the series did it's own thing and made it's own unique villains, but there are quite a few villains that would have been so interesting to see adapted to the over the top flashy action style.
