I don't wanna get ahead of myself (especially since I'm still so early on in the story) but Mirage peaked in issue #10. It's their best one
We got action packed scenes, we got anxiety inducing scenes, emotional ones, the return of Casey Motherfucking Jones, that incredibly sweet moment with April and Leo (that to this day still thugs my heartstrings in 03 because they adapted it soo well), Raph being his silly self while not taking away from the severity of the issue (funnily enough I think 87 Raph is the closest in personality to Mirage Raph, from what I've seen others talk about)

i swear i have tmnt opinions yall are not ready for
#hannah.txt#it might not be on here but at least on tiktok theres this like feud between rise fans and 2012 fans right#and its like. i get it if you dont want to call rottmnt your favorite tmnt adaptation. but like 2012? really lol?#specifically people saying its better than rise and its like thats insane to me im sorry#if you want to say the 2003 version is better than rise then you know what? sure absolutely. 2003 goes hard. but like 2012?#to set the record straight i like tmnt 2012 i enjoy it. but not because it is good lmao. writing wise it is an absolute trainwreck#however its an extremely funny trainwreck and it has bits of salvageable characters and arcs#and its like#i dont want to be one of those new fans hating on the old shit or whatever because i really am not#but speaking as someone who is watching through all 3 shows. 2012 is bad and by bad i mean like inconsistent. extremely inconsistent#and like to sit there and say rise is worse than 2012 with your full chest is some unbelievable nostalgia blindness#i luv the 2012 characters and the show is hysterical however a goof 50% it is hysterical on accident and not on purpose#sometimes these 'old fans' (a little funny bc they're obsessed with what was the newest tv show before rise)#are so obsessed with familiar that any break from that is so mind shattering to ttem that they hate it#and heres the thing 2012 is not a wholely bad show i think it is an extremely 2012 show + the writing is misogynistic and not thought out#its just like idk. im not that heated about it i think its just really funny#how dedicated some people are to defending the show with an inc//est plotline and the worst romantic subplots ever#like. are you allowed to like it despite its flaws? 100% . like i said i like it a lot despite my criticisms#but like saying its better than rise or 2003 for that matter... come on now. face reality my friend. be honest w urself#ok rant over LMFAO

40 years ago, two best friends came together one night to create something that could make the other laugh.
What began as a silly joke shifted into an idea to turn this strange premise into a comic. From there, it snowballed to turn into a television series, then an independently-funded film that made history which started the phenomenon that was felt around the world; Turtlemania.
And from there? The rest is history.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has become such a pop-culture icon in the decades that it’s been around. Even if you’ve never had the same experience of watching the show there’s a chance you know the OG theme song. Ask any random Joe on the street who’s the most popular turtle and there’s a chance they’ll say Mikey. Not only has it outlasted the test of time, but it’s proven to people that the craziest dreams can come true through perseverance and determination. It’s a franchise that’s created a lifelong fan base full of dedicated people who work to support and create new things with each other, who are so welcoming and talented and wildly imaginative. It’s a storyline with characters that have been so lovable and cherished by thousands for years. It was an idea that most scoffed at and turned down because of the absurd concept of mutated turtles fighting crime dressed up like ninja.
And yet it worked.
Against all odds it worked.
And for the past forty years, it’s BEEN working.
No matter how many times this franchise gets a reboot/ reimagining/ adaptation, everyone who adores these turtles keep coming back to tune in on their current adventures. Through the years the stories became more defined, more fleshed out, almost growing up with the audience just like how Toy Story did. And as the 2010’s came around the shows coming out also got to introduce a brand new generation of fans to the world of the TMNT, as well as the films! It’s themes of family resonate with everyone— ANYONE can find something to enjoy in watching or reading these stories.
This franchise clearly clicks with people.
TMNT isn’t only a comic book that started out an indie parody of the modern heroes of the time, IE Daredevil, but it was made by two passionate artists that had a deep respect and adoration for the craft of art and storytelling. They cared about these characters and people saw that. Still see that today. Are STILL going to see it with all the brand new comics and show on the horizon!
And I, for one, am so happy to be able to see what comes next. I love these turtles 🥹
So, Happy 40th Anniversary, dudes! Cowabunga!! 💜

Random question for the tmnt fans
What are your favorite adaptations of April O’Neill

I will always cite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as my reason for why comic book IPs that get multiple on-screen iterations shouldn't be afraid to make changes to what we know about the characters.
It's because of that that every iteration of the TMNT has a passionate fanbase that loves the shit out of their respective version.
Like, look at the different versions of Splinter (forgive any clerical errors as it has been a while since I've seen some adaptations)
A martial arts master that was mutated into a rat
A pet rat that studied the moves of his owner to learn martial arts before mutating
A man that lost his wife and daughter to Shredder, mutated into a rat, and sees the turtles as his second chance of having a family
A rat who along with the turtles, is the reincarnation of an ancient ninja warrior and his four sons
A man that adopted an inert, pacifistic lifestyle after being mutated against his will and forced to fight for 10 years.
A rat that just stumbled into a father role and is just doing his best, using martial arts training videos to teach his kids self-defense
And this is just Splinter. This makes TMNT fun every single time it gets a new adaptation, whether I end up liking it or not, and I wish comic book fans offered that same grace to other IPs.

I am once again thinking of RWBY crossovers. Specifically a TMNT-RWBY crossover. Which wouldn't be the weirdest crossover these characters had since all of them met Batman at one point.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'd take a page from the RWBY-JL crossover and translate the Turtles into the RWBY universe. It's not too difficult to adapt their setting for RWBY, honestly.
We can have them and Splinter - and pretty much any other mutant - be faunuses. Hamato Yoshi can be a Huntsman who got kicked out of the Foot Clan when it became a bunch of merciless mercenaries, and later adopted four turtles faunus who were orphaned by Grimm, taught them how to fight, to build their own weapons and use their abilities to do good and help others, becoming the father they needed.
Tumblr media
We can keep the "Half-Shell Heroes of the Shadows" angle by having them be unlicensed Huntsman and act like vigilantes with no regard for the system created by Ozpin.
The meeting between the Turtles and Team RWBY would be great. First, they fight of course, we need to see that happen. But once things calm down and we can have some fun, there's so much that can be done:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-Blake and Leo just quietly enjoying each other's company, and maybe sparring a bit.
-Ruby and Mikey just having way too much energy at all times.
-Weiss and Donnie being the ones who hold the brain cells of their teams.
-Yang and Raph being Yang and Raph at each other.
For the villains, we can keep Shredder as a megalomaniac conqueror who wants to take over the world with his army of ninjas. Depending on which part of the RWBY timeline this would take place, there are different things we can do with Saki. If it takes place during the war against Salem, we can have him offer his services to her at some point, of course as an arrogant ploy to take her out and take everything over. Or, if it takes place after the war, we can have Shredder take advantage of the kingdoms trying to rebuild to strike and seek power.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And for secondary villains that we can bring for both cool fights and character exploration. We can do something with a few of the excellent mutants introduced in the IDW comics like Alopex, Koya and Bludgeon. And of course, bring the classic Bebop Rocksteady.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And of course, the most important thing when it comes to the villains: Making RWBY fans aware that Karai exists.

so the mutant mayhem series...
look im happy to get another show and im open to watching it and i will give it a chance.
but some stuff in the trailers really rubs me the wrong way.
april saying "isnt your whole thing a costume" in reference to ...just their bodies is icky and im dissapointed her kinda being mean to them is gonna continue. like- its not an initial shock thing like with 2003 and 2012 april its just "sure we're friends but im gonna call out how different you are even though your WHOLE goal is to fit in and be accepted.". i like her design and her story seems interesting and i hope she gets a real arc unlike a lot of aprils but like- the comments are un-necessary and it feels like shes making fun of them instead of being a supportive friend. [if theres an episode where the guys get fed up and talk to her, possibly having a lesson about expressing to your friends when youre uncomfortable with what they do then ill be overjoyed because that message NEEDS to be in kids shows and it would clarify april just didnt know it bothered them and would tone it down because she doesnt wanna hurt her friends]
in a trailer the others got praise and when it was mikeys turn someone was like "oh what do you do?" and mikey doesnt have a real answer. as a mikey fan i just cannot stand the constant dismissal he gets. if the series is gonna expand on that and take it seriously im totally in though.
i didnt mind the movie artstyle. its not something i enjoy and it kinda gave me a headache in theaters but objectivly there is nothing weong with it and a lot of work and talent was put into it. the show style is...ehhh? i dont like it. i dont hate it. i dont really enjoy the color palette. its not appealing to me and an art style can really change how much i enjoy a show.
and why does leo sound so much older. i cant be the only one hearing that right? like i know thats fairly standard for the shows but the movie had all this hype about the guys sounding and acting their age so???
and structure wise i feel like this is going to feel more like kim possible and spiderman instead of tmnt? cause like ...a HUGE part has always been theyre a secret and they work in the shadows cause theyre ninjas and now theyre just in the open. im ok with change- all franchizes NEED to change and adapt but im not gonna get hopeful till i see it done well int he actual show
speaking of that this is a reminder i by no means think the show will be bad. i want it to be awesome and fun and make its mark like other tmnt shows and films have! i just had to get this off my chest cause it was bothering me. im sure the show WILL be good cause i havent watched a tmnt show i outright disliked yet. the trailers just rubbed me the wrong way.

its too early to say anything obviously but so far i have to wonder if theres a rat king situation afoot :3 rise is a great space for fan comics bc theres soooo many classic tmnt characters (villains in particular) that didnt make it into the show that u have pretty much complete freedom over what you think happens next!! i dont really have a conclusion just wanted to say im really loving the comic so far and am super excited to see whats next :D
oooooooh interesting thought :0! But yes I agree, Rise is such a fun playground for fans to bring back characters from older series. I really appreciate how the series did it's own thing and made it's own unique villains, but there are quite a few villains that would have been so interesting to see adapted to the over the top flashy action style.

i really wish yall would stop bitching and whining about rottmnt any time a new tmnt thing comes out. THE SHOW IS OVER!! IT’S DONE!! yall are doing all of this over an adaptation that honestly wasn’t even that good in the first place. it ruins things for old and new tmnt fans that just want to appreciate all the new stuff without having a rat in their ear moaning about a show that ended almost six years ago. its genuinely so annoying for people in and out of the fandom. this is why so many people are leaving/going inactive. please stop.

Hi! I read your TMNT 2012 separated au that you made with ellestrade and it really gave me brainworms so I wrote a small one-shot for it! The characters kinda ended up writing themselves haha.
anyways, wanted to share it with you and also make sure that you're okay with it. Not sure how you feel about other people taking inspiration from you ideas, so if you would like me to take it down, just let me know!
Thanks for sharing such fun ideas. Here's the post (I've also tagged you in it but sometimes tags are weird and don't always show. Also its on my fandom specific sideblog, but I am the same person haha)
Gotta love those brain worms! (Ironic statement from a 2012 viewpoint, actually-) HOLY CHALUPA, BRAIN WORMS IN THIS AU UNIVERSE, WAIT WAIT ACTUALLY WAIT-
*background rambles and spazzing*
Okay, I’m back.
I’m always a-okay with whatever fan things anyone wants to create with inspiration from something I made or helped make. As long as it isn’t containing some stamp that says “this I deem canon” when neither me (nor my partner) deemed it canon, no one ever has to worry with me getting upset over some story/comic/art.
I’m going to give some thoughts and I want to disclaimer.
When I discuss my thoughts on your POV of events in the AU, I will never, in any way, intend to diss or attack the story. I think the flow was excellent and Raph’s analysis of the events occurring was intriguing. I loved it! And nothing I say will be a statement otherwise.
But, since I have a distinct inability to keep my mouth shut when it comes to turtles and you asked, I have thoughts 🧐
My brain is now turning and ya’ll have to deal.
Characterization:
Donnie: Much distrust. Much sass. A strong sense of duty to defend his brethren turtles who don’t deserve it but he’s doing it anyway.
Very on point. Much approval 👌
Mikey: Could not be more perfect. I love him. Sweet soul ✨
Leo: He’s a bit less… Forceful. Cold and calculating. Than I envision.
I’d imagine that he had to learn to shut feelings down in order to survive. Fidgeting/smiling/visibly hesitating is out of the question. Staying in Shredder’s graces meant learning to play the game. His silence is what earns Raph the ability to be loud. The only times that he’s himself is when him and Raph are alone, outside of the sight of cameras, or when someone in is danger and fear/fury overwhelms all else. He seems bland to outsiders and it takes the Hamato brothers a while to see that that he’s just a scared little boi at heart that’s just trying his best in a cruel world.
He’s also set in his beliefs, so he’s going to assume that they’re being tormented mentally, if not physically. There’s no place in his mind that wonders if they were actually safer elsewhere.
I do like your POV, though. Plenty for me to play with.
Raph:
He’s ABSOLUTELY the first to question the differences between how Shredder treats them and how Splinter treats their brothers. He doesn’t jump the gun, but as devoted as he is, he’s never really liked Shredder. I love the implications that he’s been filing away concerns subconsciously and his brain keeps poking him like “HELLO?!”
He’s very deep. I can’t decide how I feel about that 🤔
Shredder would have wanted to fan that temper into something unforgiving and vile. Or course, that doesn’t mean he stops being a sensitive soul. It could… Have something to do with Shredder manipulating him into being angry when he wills it (basically all the time) and solemn and still when he doesn’t (such as during lectures, punishments, etc).
His brain registers this situation as one where he’s not meant to be loud and angry, and so he’s kinda… Shut down. Sassy, but mellow. Processing. Adapting. Letting what happens happen because he’s not meant to stop it.
It’s a reason that Leo gets so defensive when punishments come into play. It forces Raph to feel small. It make him vulnerable.
HOLY MOTHER OF MUTATIONS- I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS NEW TAKE ON THE AU @ellestrade TELL ME IF I’M ONTO SOMETHING
Anyway, commentary:
“in one of Takeō's strategy books he couldn't care less about”
It’s like Space Heroes. He claims so and YET he read, recalls, AND clearly has DEBATED the passage so I call sus vibes.
I get giddy when I think of Takeō discovering Space Heroes-
“Junkō and Kōta— or Donnie and Mikey, whatever false name they’d been given—”
My brain made connections. I don’t know if it was intended, but I always believe that they knew them by Shredder’s names through the beginning of season one, end of season one/beginning of season two they were associating them as both, and then by the time that the City is under attack, they’ve adapted to using their real names. (But the Saki brothers still keep their Foot names.)
So, now I assume this is somewhere in that middle plot.
Fun little Easter egg~
“Takeō and Akihitō were the offense, and Donnie and Mikey were the defense” “They held their own. In fact, they dominated.”
I’m in love with Raph’s simple acknowledgment of their roles in battle. It’s a very practical outline of exactly how their dynamic on the field plays out and he's so certain of his place.
On the other hand, I’m a bit uncertain about whether they’d dominate. I do believe that they are trained and can hold their own, but I don’t know about them being as impressive as Raph&Leo, simply because Splinter trained them to defend and Shredder trained them to kill. The Hamato brothers haven’t had much time to practice in the offensive, especially since that’s Leo&Raph’s job. (In non-AU canon, they are all offensive/defensive.)
I think Mikey might learn that kinda strength at the farmhouse after being taught by Leo&Raph, and Donnie will step back from that, finally finding his place not as a fighter/leader, but as a scientist.
Definitely an interesting take, tho 🤔
“Only now does he think that, perhaps, there was a reason their master made their primary weapons blunts and not blades.”
I am chewing on this line so hard. It’s so powerful.
I can’t even tell you why. It just is.
“Akihitō knows that Takeō isn’t lying. He’d already tried to take tonight's blame all on his own shoulders, spare Akihitō of the punishment. But Akihitō knows all his tricks and he won’t let his brother suffer alone. Again.”
100% behind Raph learning to butt in when Leo tries to take the fall as they get older and punishments get worse.
“Seeing the situation, the evidence glaring at him, Akihitō cannot deny that this wasn’t exactly a great sell. Takeō and him are tied to the ground, trying to convince these two strangers that they would be safe with them. That their clan would not hurt them while that same clan was just about ready to beat them to a pulp.”
I was thinking the same thing 🤣
Leo, dude, seriously. Look around. Think for a second. You are not selling your point. You are doing the opposite.
In the end, it doesn’t even matter. Sensei will always find them no matter where they run. It was better to follow than be chased.
SOMEONE NEEDS TO TEACH THESE KIDS THAT THIS IS A TOXIC RELATIONSHIP. YOU SHOULD NOT FEEL MOTIVATED TO STAY WITH DAD BECAUSE HE WILL FORCED YOU TO REMAIN OTHERWISE. BRUH. RED FLAG.
These were Foot Ninja binds made specifically to hold them. Mutant strength and all.
It makes sense that Shredder would make these. But.
But man. He made those. For them.
Takeō tries to take control of the situation again, the bossy oldest sibling coming out in him.
HA. Got him. Leo is Leo in any universe.
“His name is Mikey.” Donnie glares. “The rat is lying and he has—” “Donnie, its fine.”
Absolutely how they view things. Mikey doesn’t care what they think or do as long as no one he cares about is paying the price. Donnie feels it is a manner of principle that they accept logic and truth.
Leo talking over both of them is valid. This kid, I swear.
“Then tell your older brother to shut up about—”
LEO IS IT OFFICIAL YOU HAVE BEEN DISOWNED
“Sounds like a you-problem.” Donnie stands. “Mikey, we saved them. It's time to go.”
Donnie would die for them <3
A hand lands on his shoulder, and he recognizes it. Takeō always knows when to give support. He’s a good brother. He hopes Donnie and Mikey will know that one day too.
OH. OKAY. WELL. 🥺
THOSE FEELS CAME OUT OF NOWHERE-
He loved his big bro sm hjkhkjhkjhjkkjhkjhkjhku
If Akihitō didn’t know any better, he’d say it was longing.
Oh, don’t worry, he is dying to have other people in his life who genuinely care for him, but as long as you guys are with the enemy, you’re a threat to his baby brother and daddy and not to be trusted
And, just maybe, it could be their world too.
Oh, so that’s what pain feels like. Glad to be reminded.
