Park Seonghwa’s Home for Displaced Downworlders

Character intros, Part 2:

Park Seonghwa: a Warlock older than even the formidable Kim Hongjoong. Seonghwa first met Hongjoong not long after he had first turned, and helped him through the transition. The two became fast friends, having to fight side by side for their survival as Downworlders were readily hunted in that time. As the world grew calmer, Hongjoong helped him set up what is now known as the Home for Displaced Downworlders; a refuge where any person, no matter their lineage or their circumstance, could find shelter and safety. They were as thick as thieves, best friends seemingly as close as Parabatai, until a single argument destroyed everything, creating a seemingly unbreakable rift.

Kang Yeosang: A member of the Seelie Court, Yeosang was found by Seonghwa embedded in the ice of a frozen lake. When he was finally freed, he retained no memory of who he was and how he’d got there, and so became a resident of Seonghwa’s Home. Feeling little connection to the Fae World, he decided to stay with Seonghwa, helping him care for Downworlders who, like him, had nowhere else to go.

Choi Jongho: a werewolf cub found by one of Seonghwa’s scouts who’s pack was nowhere to be found. Like Yeosang, Jongho elected to stay with Seonghwa instead of searching for a new pack to take him in. Of all the residents in the Home, he is particularly fond of Yeosang, as he is the only one who, quote, “isn’t a walking headache”.

Choi San: a Shadowhunter, and one of the most promising young Nephilim in his generation. San has been taught his entire life that, despite what the Accords say, Downworlders are corrupted by nature as a result of their demonic lineage. He has been told stories upon stories of the devastation they have rained down upon mankind and his Shadowhunter kin. And yet, when he comes across a young vampire whilst out on a simple scouting mission, he cannot help but question these teachings. Surely this terrified (and very beautiful) boy is as deserving of help as much as anyone else?

Minor Characters of note:

Stray Kids and Itzy will appear as a local Werewolf pack with ties to Seonghwa

The Xikers boys will be mentioned as some of the surviving members of Hongjoong’s clan.

The Dreamcatcher members will make appearances as fellow Warlocks and Faeries

JOEL HAS PANIC ATTACKS The Last of Us: S01E06 - Kin

I’m about to add in some TMI here, but as someone who has suffered from panic attacks in my life, you have no idea how much these scenes actually meant to me. I’ve never really seen panic attacks done justice in media, but the moment that I saw Joel’s response to stress, I saw myself in Joel. For years I’ve suffered from panic attacks due to health conditions and I can’t compliment Pedro Pascal enough on his performance. It’s beautiful. It hit home for me and I’m actually so incredibly grateful that they added this part to Joel’s character. With panic attacks, you’re fine one second and then all of a sudden it feels like your heart is stopping. Joel has been my favorite character for ten years. Seeing that my favorite character goes through the same things I have in my life when Joel is strong, heroic and brave? It makes me feel seen. It makes me feel like I’m not alone. And I can’t thank The Last of Us enough for bringing light to what it’s like to have panic attacks. Even the bravest of us go through this and we aren’t alone.

Chief Mourners: Why did Seokhyeon, Hakho, and Jihoon wear yellow armbands during the funeral service?

SPOILER ALERT

DISCLAIMER: I'm not Korean, just learning about their culture.

The yellow armbands around Jihoon (Jimmy), Hakho (Jake) and Seokhyeon (Kingsley)'s arms were the sign that they were the chief mourners of Baekjin (Donald)'s funeral. It means that these three were the substitutes for Baekjin's family in preparing the funeral from start to finish. Theirs was the role that his absent stepfather and/or kin were supposed to carry out.

I'll try to explain to you about their responsibilities. After reading this, hopefully you'll understand why they crumbled and seemingly grew up so fast.

Seokhyeon, Hakho, and Jihoon's responsibilities as chief mourners:

NOTES:

They didn't do it simultaneously since usually there's an agreed upon division of labor among chief mourners of a funeral;

For nos. 3, 5, 6, 7 & 18, since Baekjin, Seokhyeon, Hakho and Jihoon were minors, then per Korean laws the bank accounts that they and the Union used were under their parents' names, and the legal representative was hired under their parents' names too.

Choosing and preparing Baekjin's photograph to be displayed at the funeral hall;

Sending an obituary and/or a death notification to Baekjin's school and to the Union members/related people as soon as his time of death was established;

Hiring a legal representative to be present when Baekjin's personal effects were released before his autopsy started. Since Baekjin had no immediate family and his death was from non-natural causes where autopsy is a must according to their laws.

Being on standby to receive Baekjin's personal effects from said legal representative. Note that this must've been very VERY upsetting to them since these were the things that Baekjin wore on the night of the accident. Just imagine.

Ensuring that the legal representative from no. 3 was present to receive the autopsy reports and photos on behalf of them, usually 3 days - 1 week after the autopsy was performed. The autopsy report for an accident usually look like this:

6. Calculating and paying the expenses to register for funeral, cremation and charnel house (mausoleum) services;

7. Ensuring that everything is taken care of by the funeral & cremation services from there on, including:

The issuance of Baekjin's death certificate (it usually looks like this);

The renting of mourning clothes. These clothes usually look like this (basically what we see in the funeral episodes):

The availability of a funeral hall (complete with condolence money box, incense, floral arrangements etc). The hall is usually located at the basement of the hospital where Baekjin was taken to after the accident, and arranged by the hospital's funeral services that Seokhyeon/Hakho/Jihoon hired;

The availabillity of foods and chrysanthemum flowers provided for mourners during a 3-day funeral service, because Baekjin had no female kin who oversaw this. Note that there are usually several types of foods that MUST be served in a day on tables, like this (usually the minimum is 3 menus):

The availability of a crematorium and a fixed cremation schedule;

The allotment of a charnel house (mausoleum) space for Baekjin's urn and photos, and maybe some personal belongings. Note that for Baekjin to be placed next to his mother, either Seokhyeon, Hakho or Jihoon had to notify the funeral services person(s) in charge who then notified the mausoleum in advance. Later, the persons in charge forwarded their payment of the space to the mausoleum. (EDIT: Or they registered it by themselves and paid directly to the mausoleum).

8. Spending 2 nights and 3 days in that funeral hall for a 3-day funeral service, in the same mourning clothes (if personal bellongings, these were usually later burned or shelved, never worn twice). Note that there's usually no comfortable sleeping arrangement in funeral halls, so they must've slept on the floor on hard pillows and thin blankets for 2 nights;

9. Greeting and welcoming all the mourners during the three 3-day funeral service and ensuring that they signed the guestbook. Note that mourners usually come after school/work hours from 6-11 p.m so Seokhyeon, Hakho, and Jihoon had to finish showering, eating, etc before those hours;

10. Receiving and storing the condolence money. The condolence money is usually placed in envelopes like these:

11. Arranging with the funeral services to ensure that there was food and drink for these mourners (since Baekjin had no female immediate family);

12. Receiving any standing wreaths from organizations that are connected. Note that standing wreaths in Korean funerals usually only come from organizations and not individuals, so probably if there was one, it would only be from Yeoil High since all of Baekjin's other contacts were made in an illegal business setting. Standing wreaths usually look like this;

13. Going to the crematorium and attending the cremation process along with select mourners;

14. Receiving Baekjin's ashes in a container (usually an urn purchased through the funeral services);

15. Going to the mausoleum and attending the placement of Baekjin's urn, photos and select belongings in the mausoleum/charnel house;

16. Thanking other mourners properly on behalf of Baekjin's family.

17. Counting the condolence money and deciding what to do with it afterwards other than covering the funeral costs.

18. Paying off Baekjin's personal debts and The Union's (if there was any), and dividing the remaining money and assets (probably needing to hire a legal representative again).

Honestly learning about all of this made me sympathize with Jihoon, Seokhyeon and Hakho more. I sadly realized that in a better time and a better place these three might have been real friends to Baekjin. It's not too late for the three of them yet.

My favorite character is Jinx

I originally started watching Arcane because I saw myself in Jinx. Growing up, I was the klutzy friend that people easily got embarrassed by. I didn’t understand things as quickly, I dressed awkwardly, I was the weird girl. Not to mention my life with my older sister, who was consistently abusive, and eventually left me for people she chose over family. Despite the pain that she brought, I was lost without her, and it quite literally spiraled me into mental instability and self harm for a long time. When I came across Jinx, I felt seen like I never had before. Even in Jinx’s interactions with Caitlyn in season 1; they mirrored how I felt about my older sister’s better friends and lovers. When Jinx saw the pink-haired girl that reminded her of Vi and it caused her to spiral - I’ve experienced that and it made me feel seen. When Vi returned and Jinx had that crash-out, that’s how I’ve always imagined what it would be like if my sister comes back into my life. I’ve memorized her “are we still sisters? You never left” monologue. She is such a crucial character to me. I believe that she was crucial for my self-awareness and healing.

Jinx was a character that I found comfort in. It was a ‘she could understand me in a way that no one else would’ type of viewpoint. I would argue that she is one of the best representations of what long-term mental illness does to a person; whether it’s bipolar, borderline, whatever.

Even now. I completed therapy for the trauma with my sister, and I am able to handle it in much better ways. But Jinx is a character that I love dearly. She reconciled with Vi; but I’ll always see a part of myself in her, regardless of how healed I am.

For similar reasons, I love Ekko. He loved Jinx, and once he learned that she was working for Silco, he took it and ran with it. He didn’t try to change his mindset initially or get his hopes up, because the possibility of losing Powder again hurt too bad. Yet in season 2, he is literally given heaven; Benzo, Claggor and Mylo are alive. He has a life with his Powder. It’s the closest to heaven he could ever get - and yet he gave it up to save the world. And it hurt him. But he has always persevered.

"I've recalled that because of titanic physiology, whenever I removed any piercing for a significant amount of time, such as going to bed, the piercings would close and I would have to re-pierce myself. It got so annoying that a lot of my piercing type jewelry was relegated for special occasions only. Junko made an offhand remark that being covered in dried blood from fresh pierces was very "me", but wasn't exactly fitted for the atmosphere of a nice day out. I pouted about this."

yyyeah. I, uh, "kinsona" may not be particularly accurate, but I definitely imbued him with a lot of myself. The wings are partially inspired by Chili's gijinka, but more so by one of my coping mechanisms I've since lost.

Miss my phantom wings. They made me feel protected in hallways and classrooms <3 (sidenote that may be tmi, but they only really went away because my back felt more trapped when I had to start wearing bras)

Fridge DJ is probably my second biggest kin (OSC wise), they just. Feel like me. I started making him feminine because I wanted the hair to kind of mimic the round parts of this design/the dial and speaker, so just imagine her to have been a drag queen or something.

In honor of tonight's landmark episode of Supernatural, ETonline is spilling exclusive scoop from everyone's favorite brothers Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles and it's guaranteed to make any Winchester fangirl absolutely freak out.

The guys were more than happy to share not one, but two hilarious secrets that you never knew about each of our demon-hunting actors.

After all, when a show has been on the air for ten years and the plot centers on the trials and tribulations of two brothers, it's only natural that the co-stars would become incredibly close. Even better, when it comes to Padalecki and Ackles, the word "close" doesn't even begin to describe their bromantic bond, making their secrets that much better!

First up: Ackles revealed an unknown fact about his gorgeous-haired best friend: " I out all of his flaws to everybody," the actor spilled to ETonline in Vancouver last month. "It's his strengths that I don’t tell anyone about, and that's just because he's a buddy of mine, and you never brag about your buddy."

"But if I was going to reveal a secret I would say that he is the nerdiest mathematician that I have ever met in my life!" Ackles continued, "This guy throws out like percentages, and decimals, and numbers, and it's just like, 'Jared what's 16 percent of 4200?' and he's like, 'Boom! Number!' "We were just children," Ackles reminisced of their first encounter at a Warner Bros. chemistry read in 2004. "I walked in and expected to see five other guys reading for the role of Dean, and I see this one gangly-looking, long-haired frat boy, with his long hair and his hoodie."

After bonding over their home state of Texas, and realizing that they both were huge fans of the Dallas Cowboys football team, Padalecki explained that they were confused as to why no other guys were at the audition. "Finally they walk into the room and they were like, 'Hey guys follow us,' and we walk into this room at Warner Bros. and we do this scene," he said, "It was in front of 20 or 30 super high powered execs and it's a terrifying room."

"We walk out and we're like, 'F-ck! I thought that went well but no one said anything,' and then we're thinking, 'And where the fuck is everybody else?!'" Padalecki continued, "So we get back in and everybody stands up and starts clapping and they go, 'You've got a TV show.' — I get chills thinking about it."

Ackles agreed that it was of his biggest life-changing moments. "That was it. And then it was so easy," he said. "It was like immediately, 'Oh I've got best friends that are exactly like you!' and vice versa so good job, Network, on pairing us up together." Awww!

Over the past ten years Supernatural fandom has always been wildly supportive of each and every episode of the series, so it's only natural that the 200th would be a love letter to the fans in the form of an all-girls school play.

"It's just so cool," Padalecki gushed. "The fans have been asking for a musical for many, many years. It was a nice was to kind of give a salute to the fans and keep it true to Supernatural and true to Sam and Dean but give you what you wanted."

Ackles on the other hand, was not too excited when he first received the script. "Reading it I was holding my breath. I was like, 'Oh no, here we go — we are tipping the hat way too much to the fans,'" he explained.

'But then after seeing what Phil [Sgriccia], our director, conceptualized and what he was doing, I really became excited about it," Ackles said. "The guest cast they had really knocked it out of the park and I think it's what's going to make it a hit."

The 200th episode of Supernatural airs Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 9 p.m. on The CW.
