listen, this thought has been bugging me for way too long and i need to know

it is entirely possible that this has been discussed before but if so, then i haven't seen it yet.

Also, you are so very welcome to go all in with explanation and references and red-string-on-a-board style theories, it's just so much fun to read it all

I was relistening to some TMA and decided to align DST characters with the fear entities. I didn’t put anyone in buried because no one really gave off the vibe.

I had a hard time with Winona and Walani so if you think you have a better alternative please tell me 😭

because im currently hyperfixated on TMA and TDP, i present to you:

TDP BUT THE FEAR ALIGNMENTS OF KINGDOMS/ELF TRIBES/CHARACTERS

lets start with the kingdoms. I like to think that each kingdom has a fear they're all associated with (like how the whole institute is marked by the Eye, but not everyone's a full set avatar).

Katolis: With the whole origin of the orphan queen and the Nova Blade, I like to think before Ez, the entirety of Katolis was slaughter-aligned, but started becoming more eye-aligned with Ez, since I see him as very eye-coded (mainly bc of the whole thing with him and Zym, and how he can see through Zym's eyes) and definitely not associated with the slaughter. The Crownguard itself is full of Slaughter-touched people or Slaughter Avatars, though (more on that later)

Duran: Desolation. Absolutely desolation. Fire rubies? explosions? making fucking nuke arrows? yeah they're Desolation aligned. A bit ironic that they're also the only kingdom that didn't run their side of the map dry from magic though.

Neolandia: Spiral. They're in the middle of the desert, mirages are common in the desert, as well as general dehydration and other things that can make you delerious and crazy. We don't really know to much about Neloandia beyond that so,yeah.

Del Bar: Buried. It's dangerously cold there, and buried can be tied to avalanches. Again, not too much known about them.

Evenere: Corruption. Located in the middle of the swam, bugs and disease aplenty over there. The Corruption would have a field day in that area.

Elf tribes:

Moonshadow Elves: Dark. A bit self explanitory, considering he moon is at night in the dark. But every Moonshadow assassin is a Hunt Avatar.

Sunfire Elves: Desolation. Also self explanitory. Fire and desolation go hand in hand.

Earthblood Elves: Corruption. Nature is full of critters and disease, figures the fear would fit.

Skywing: Vast. A lot of these are self-explanitory. The sky is big. celestial elves are Eye though.

Tidebound: Vast or Buried. Water is big space, yes, but also innately suffocating.

Startouch: Vast or Lonely. Space between stars is vast, which can also tie into isolation, aka lonely.

Characters:

Ezran: Eye. Eye avatar. Eye, eye, eye. He can see into animals minds and thats how he can talk to them. Eye.

Callum: Vast due to his first arcanums being sky and water, which are BIG. Touched by Dark cuz dark magic.

Rayla: Hunt, due to her being a moonshadow assassin. Touched by Lonely. Cant explain why it just feels right.

Corvus: Hunt. he's a tracker, it makes sense. Touched by Slaughter due to him being crownguard.

Soren: Slaughter. Youngest crownguard in history, so he's already slaughter aligned, but hes captain. that in itself makes him a full Slaghter avatar. Touched by Dark because of how many times dark magic has been used on him and his general upbringing with Viren.

Claudia: Dark. Because, yknow. dark magic. Touched by Extinction due to Aaravos.

Aaravos: Full-fledged Extinction avatar. bro wanted to kill the SUN to raise the dead. Touched by End, Dark, Lonely, Web, and Eye.

Cosmo: Eye. For obvious reasons.

Astrid: Vast, esp bc the wings.

Lujanne: Dark because Moonshadow, but also Stranger due to her penchant for illusions.

Aanya: Desolation. She made nuke arrows. Need i say more.

im not doing all of them cuz i'd be here FOREVER but yeah. here we go

if there was ever a tv adaptation of the magnus archives i think sasha should be played by the same person as notsasha the whole time.

there are perhaps a few polaroids shown briefly in the background with someone you don't recognize during s1, but they disappear in s2.

in the end, the viewer doesn't remember the 'real' sasha either, because she was never acting in the show. all you have is memories of notsasha.

the first time we actually see the actor in the pictures from s1 is in the flashbacks at the beginning of s5; sasha and tim talking, jon's birthday, sweet memories that just- don't seem quite right, even though you know this is the true version.

They’re doing brackets to decide on a theme song for each of the fear entities, and I think it’s a fun project that deserves more attention. They’ve already done the Spiral and are currently working through the Corruption. Due to the format of the bracket I don’t want to reblog just a few of their posts or spam the people following me with every single one of their active polls, so I figure the best thing to do is just encourage people to check out the blog if they’re interested.

forever thinking about how the magnus archives really fumbled the Flesh. there was such potential there beyond just meat and whatever jared hopworth’s deal was. there’s the body, there’s the lack of control over it, there’s changes against your will, and sometimes hatred for it. there are uniquely horrifying bodily experiences that could have been explored that expand on it wholly. to me, the Flesh is the one fear i think never got enough development.

as a trans person, i identify with the flesh. i’m sure i’m not the only one, but the idea of a trans exploration of the Flesh and its nuances has fascinated me since i first listened to MAG 111, when we first learned about smirke’s 14. i would’ve loved (and still would) a trans or trans-coded Flesh avatar (because jared hopworth just does not cut it for me). jared’s flesh garden is something i think about often, though. the way the plants are tended, groomed and transformed into something else, people twisted into flowers comprised of their entire beings, still able to feel and exist with the horror of living as something you are not, something this world has shaped you into. i think a lot about a Flesh avatar with a similar premise, too. someone who saw themself transforming into something - someone - they couldn’t recognize, instead taking hold of it, molding their own flesh, cutting away and adding pieces, in an eternal state of visceral metamorphosis. and they wouldn’t have it any other way.

to me, the flesh is more than just meat. there are so many angles to look at it. the idea of feeling your emotions so viscerally they only manifest as bodily sensation, as nausea, as bruises and bleeding and bile, and you don’t have any idea why this is happening to you, because you’re fine. you’re fine, aren’t you? your mind is fine. sure, your head is pounding and your stomach feels like it’s a burning hole within you, and your bones ache so much you can’t move, but you’re fine. (for me, this is a big part of my being autistic. my feelings tend to register in my body before they ever do my brain). your body is turning against you in new and horrible ways, and you don’t know why. and the Flesh feeds on that confusion and pain. it loves it.

the Flesh genuinely had so, so much potential, and i wish there had been more on it, something that made it truly horrifying, especially since i think a piece of TMA’s fanbase found something in it that scratched their brains from the beginning.

anyway, yeah, i have feelings about the Flesh.

just finished season 3 of The Magnus Archives.

i am in love and unwell and chemically rewritten and emotionally eviscerated.

this podcast is The Corruption and I am Jane Prentiss. it consumes my every waking thought now, i’m drawing art for it, plotting fics, creating outfits based on the characters/entities, designing crochet pieces for it.
