Dug up this TLK2 fanart of mine to post since the Mufasa movie came out recently and - no surprise - was painfully mid to the point I had to take myself back to my favourite installment of the series mentally + bonus Nuka doodle from today

I could talk for hours on how amazing Nuka and Zira are as characters and how wonderfully messed up their whole family dynamic is in relation to Kovu if they ever touch the 2nd part then I'm ending up on the news

One of my absolutely favorite things about TLK2 is Zira's character desing, her eyes to be specific. Because we all know that Disney always gives their villains (male or female) the most amazing make up and sharpest eyebrows ever, just look at Ursula, the Evil Queen and Jafar, those 3 have eyebrows sharp enough to kill someone with them.

But i still find funny that despite her whole ass desing being so unique compared to other lioness, they still said "Nah, still not evil enough" and smacked some eyeshadow and eyeliner on her, jus look at her eyes:

Girl, what are you putting on your eyes? Because there is no way that is natural and there is no make up in the Savannah. I am not joking,i've seen other lionessess in TLK movies and no one other than Zira has this munch detail in their eyes, not even Sarabi or Kiara.

Make up artists really need to stop sleeping on Zira, because i've seen some reels on Instagram of make up artist painting themselves like Scar but not a single make up video of Zira, they would have so munch fun with her, the fact that there is no make up transformation video of her is criminal.

going back to my roots with an old OC that i've revamped, meet Warwinner!

originally based off maned lionesses, a recolored scar and a war helmet, she grew into her own thing, as for her backstory:

the original concept was basically, "what would sentient lions do if one of their female cubs started growing a mane?"

War's pride was definitely confused but decided that, as she had a mane, she would follow the tradition alongside her brothers in growing into it to earn the right in "wearing their crowns."

for War's part, she was unbothered, she knew herself well and was just glad that now, she was actually allowed to join her brothers during their father's patrol, learning both the ways of lions and lionesses.

it does take a bit for them to realize they're genderfluid though, mostly because Warwinner is just laid back and likes to live in the present

she was named War as she was the runt of the litter and her first moment being born she was already fighting a battle to make it through the night and later dubbed Warwinner when she earned the right to wear her crown :]

in the TLK-verse, he's actually Zira's own little sibling (she was a teen when War's litter came around) their relationship is estranged as Zira left her pride to join a shady male and took a few lionesses with her who were sick of their pride's nomadic lifestyle

after the events of TLK, War was the only one who kept coming back to the outlands with food to help her sister's band of outlanders but was always turned away because Zira saw not her sibling but either Simba (mane) or Nala (eyes)

eventually, due to a rogue lion almost taking over the outsiders, chased off by War, Zira begrudgingly let her sister stay and act as their "Mane" to ward off anymore rogues that could endanger Kovu, Vitani and Nuka. War is only doing it for their niece and nephews.

fun tidbit: Vitani got the same color of eyes like her auncle! since Zira didn't have that color, i figured another family member could have it. it skipped Zira but Vitani and War got it

It had been moons since Zira had been exiled from the pride lands, a long with her adopted son Nuka. She had been accused for the murder of King Simba's first son, Kopa (in reality, he had ran away to escape the life of royalty). Furious and down on her luck, she roamed the outlands, hoping for prey to cross by. Nuka, according to Zira, wasn't helping. He'd constantly whine for food, water, or shade. He was so tired, but Zira insisted they kept going.

Suddenly, a cry of anguish roared from a distance. Curious, Zira followed the cries, Nuka cautiously treading behind. Zira found a pride of lionesses mourning the loss of a mother. Two tiny cubs meowed at her side.

"That brown one.." Zira stared at the tiniest cub. "It looks just like...my beloved Scar.."

Zira approached the mourning pride. They immediately stood their guard and glared at Zira.

"Do not fret, lionesses. I'm here to help." Zira said with a smile.

"Mom, what are you doing?" Nuka asked.

"Hush Nuka, I have a plan. And don't call me mom. Only mother."

"Yes, mother."

"Oh those poor cubs.. Luckily, my God will help you."

"Your God?" One of the lionesses asked.

"Yes.. my God, Scar. He spoke to me..that if you join me, you'll be blessed with food and water. But only if these cubs become my children. For they will be great soldiers. They will get our promised land back."

The lionesses glanced at each other. Desperate, they had no choice but to give their cubs to Zira.

"Yes.." Zira grinned. "Vitani and Kovu.."

VG: Possession

Something I realized Vitani and Kiara currently have in common: Being possessed by a deceased Outsider.

I noticed when Vitani's possessed by Nuka, her eyes go from blue to red. When Kiara's possessed by Zira, her eyes go from red to blue. Thought I'd play with those visuals by drawing wherever my stylus took me.

Whether or not this interaction is "canon" to the story (be a spoiler if I say a straight answer), it was still a fun visual for this month. More spooky Vitani's Guard stuff is in store later this month 👀

Below is a little edit I made during production when I'd realized Vitani's eyes reminded me of Zaunites under the effects of Shimmer from Arcane (can't wait for Season 2 btw!):

And I also really wanted to share with you, guys, some of my headcanon designs for TLK characters in Mufasa universe!^^

The first one I've made was Taka! I really tried to keep him a little paler then other lions, maintaining the original design!

Later I made Kiros. I really like how huge he is in the movie, and I tried to convey his powerful appearance ^^

I also thought that as a lion who fought a lot, he must have earned himself more than one scar. Perhaps the scar on his eye, which Taka got later, would be a kind of branding for him? Every member of his pride would wear one to show their loyalty and willingness to be injured in battle!

And lately I made Zira as Kiros daughter! U haven't really thought about her in this universe, maybe, I'll post something later on! And at the end of the day there are designs for Kiara and Kovu!^^

for Kiara, I tried to keep the gentle design from the film (I LOVE HER MADLY, I WILL FIGHT FOR HER, I WILL DIE FOR HER). And Kovu, in fact, is just a collection of inspiration from dirty lions and, suddenly, black bears.
