the morning report has now led me to believe zazu genuinely loves kids. He used to babysit kion and bunga and sometimes fuli and I think cause hes a bird he probably knew ono as a baby too! beshte was the son of the hippo leader so I like to think he’d go along with his dad for important meetings and zazu would be entrusted to take care of him while simba and beshte’s dad talked. just imagine how proud zazu feels when he finds out these kids are now the pridelands’ protectors. just imagine zazu watching the lion guard go into battle and wonder when did these kids grow up. zazu looking at the lion guard and thinking he would never have guessed that the rambunctious bunch of kids he used to take care of would one day protect the circle of life. zazu thinking he would do anything for these kids. zazu knowing that the pridelands is most definitely in good hands if beshte, ono, bunga, fuli, and kion are the ones protecting it.

Mufasa and Taka were galloping through the grasslands, when Mufasa saw something while passing a tree.

"Taka, stop!"

"What?"

"There's an egg alone on the ground! What if someone gets it?"

"Not my problem."

"I know, but I can't let it be here all alone.."

"Just let me eat it." Taka smirked as he lunged forward. Mufasa quickly stopped him.

"Why do you care about this bird egg?" Taka whined. "It's below us! We're the most important animals!"

"Mom says everyone has a part in the circle of life! Including this baby bird!"

"Ugh, fine.."

"I'm going to stay here and guard the egg. Can you look for the mother?"

"Yes, your majesty..", Taka groaned as he turned around and stomped off.

Mufasa kept a steady eye on the egg, looking around occasionally for a predator. He wasn't sure what he would do if say, a hyena showed, but he felt an urge to protect the egg no matter what.

"Oh goodness!" He heard a worried voice from above. A very tired looking hornbill flew up ahead. "You're about to eat my baby!"

"No! I promise I wasn't! It fell and I stood here and watched it while my brother went to try and look for you! I didn't mean to scare you, miss.."

"Wait a second.." the mother rubbed her tired eyes. "You're the prince!!"

"Heh, I suppose so.."

"Oh I've been blessed this day!! Thank you for saving my baby, your majesty! How can I repay you?"

"Gosh, miss, I dunno..my parents would be better at this kinda thing.."

Suddenly, the egg hatched. A joyful young bird popped out, smiling at Mufasa.

"Oh, my baby! Hello my baby! Welcome to the world, my Zazu!" She cried tears of joy. "I'll talk to your parents, and make sure you get a reward!"

Mufasa blushed, smiling at the mother bird.

"I should go look for my brother..but thank you, miss!"

"You can call me Zuzu dear, and thank YOU!"

Confession time: This entire escapade originated from a series I'm crafting on AO3, in which Scar turns up the charm dial to eleven and flirts incessantly with Zazu while Zazu fails spectacularly in his attempt to remain unflustered.

-Shenzi, Banzai and Ed hanging out. Maybe a brief Scar cameo. (With a bit of luck, the house won't even end up on fire at the end.)

-This one taps into Hurt/Comfort a bit but maybe Zazu comforting Scar (or maybe the aftermath of that? That would also be an amazing read), since I believe there was only the Elevator Incident and we've seen it happen a few times the other way around? And they have definitely gotten a bit closer since that.

-Simba in the office again. Being courious about anything and everything, even Zazu's paperwork. Anything with him is bound to be tooth rotting fluff.

-Lastly, Scar using Zazu's greek name more often, now that he knows it trips him up.

i saw the lion king (UK) tour last week and!!! zazu is my favourite translation from the animation, i just love the combination of puppet & puppeteer and also the fun birdy take on the butler outfit. love love love.

I was today years old when I found out that Zazu was supposed to have eight babies in The Lion King 2.

Concept artwork of them done by Ritsko Notani and approved by animator Wendell Washer, (both of whom have worked on various other Disney direct-to-video sequels and spin-offs) was sold on Ebay just this weekend (godspeed to whoever is living in LA at the moment).

In early drafts of the sequel dating back to 1996, Zazu was intended to be accompanied by a female hornbill known as Binti, who would have been his mate by the end of the film. Together, they would have had eight hornbill chicks. The executives and writers deemed Binti and Zazu's storyline to be unnecessary and she was cut from the movie. When Binti was phased out, Zazu no longer had any narrative reason to have children, and thus they were cut. Zazu's role in Simba's Pride was diminished greatly as a result of this.
