List of how many times I’ve read the TSC books for my own entertainment (I’m crazy)
TMI: 3 times in entirety
TDA: 2 times in entirety
TID: Attempted a reread but didn’t finish the first book. Whoops. Should get on that
TLH: 1 time. Not planning on rereading any time soon.
TEC: Read both TRSOM and TLBOTW 2 times
TBC: 2 times
TFTSA: 2 times
GOTSM: 1 time
SOBH: 1 time, counting it. It’s a lot of reading fr. I’ll prob reread when we get physical copies
Graphic Novels (for fun): I think I’ve read like volumes 1 and 2 three times, and 3 and 4 twice, and the others just 1 time, they’re too new

How many times have you reread each shadowhunters series?
I've read TMI like 5-10 times, but many many years ago. I haven't reread it since I was like 21. I definitely am due a reread.
I've read RSoM 3 times now and TLBoTW once. But I'm about to embark on a TLBoTW reading journey because I just reread RSoM and miss Ragnor.
I've read Lady Midnight a couple of times but have only read LoS and Qoaad once. It was more than enough. Never again.
TID is probably the series I've reread the most times. I've done probably anywhere between 10-20 times, closer to 20. I've been into it for 10 years, what can I say? (Might reread it this year around the holidays!)
But based on percentages, TLH is probably my most reread. We've only had it a few years, and I've read ChoG probably over 10 times, ChoI thrice, and ChoT 4 times so far (it's only been out for like 8 months.) So like, based on the time we've had it, TLH is the most frequent. (Gonna reread the full trilogy in January when the paperbacks come out!)
I will say that Nothing But Shadows and Cast Long Shadows are by far my most-read TSC content. I read one or the other, like, monthly.

Hot take: tlbotw is not good, I only love it bc its main characters are malec and bc both of them are sacrificial parasocial idiots for each other. Malec privilege. Other than them, the book does nothing for me and I haven't reread it since September of 2020 whereas I've reread trosm thrice.
Tumblr media
bestie you really go OFF!! and some of yall gonna be mad at me but it much be sad i agree. malec is the book only saving grace plot what plot villain what villain. also the climax....yeah don't even start the only good thing comes out of that climax is malec being self-sacrificing idiots pls. trsom is top tier cause it essentially a romcom about malec and their romantic getaway trip with some cult business please. we need to get back to their roots for tbvotd! honeymoon and necromancy business!

I’m gonna spend the rest of today reading
‘The Lost Book of the White’
The first time I read it, I did so in under a day.
Now I’m gonna go in depth and try to savour it!

Bitch knows she can’t take Magnus in a one-to-one fight no wonder she keeps trying to incapacitate him. Like the poison in Rome and now the whole stabbing-glowing-magical-wound thing in lbotw. My boy can kick anyone’s ass and the world knows.

It’s been almost a year and a half...but I am FINALLY DONE WITH MY TMI REREAD!!
CoHF was actually a lot better than I remembered it! You can definitely tell Cassie has improved as a writer since CoB, though there’s definitely still room for improvement (even in her newer books).
From a story standpoint, it was a little long, especially in the first half. I mean, they didn’t even get to Edom until the last half of the book. Otherwise, it was pretty solid! There weren’t any really boring moments (at least, not in the last half). I’m surprised I got as emotional as I did, I don’t think I’ve cried this much at a book since They Both Die at the End in 2017
Now that I’ve finished my reread, I’m going to read TLBotW, but after that (and probably a cc break to read some other books I’ve been neglecting) I think I’m going to go back and read tid and cog. I’ll admit I never got past clockwork angel, and that was in 7th grade 😬
Thanks too all of you for sticking around with me while I essentially shitposted and spammed you guys about this series ❤️

I get wht you said about Belial dying n stuff — it kinda seems like god just took another doll off the shelf and plopped it in to replace the old one. makes me wonder if he does that with his angels too, or even how angels and all that work with other worlds. is there a thing of angels for each world?? is each world a universe, or is a cluster of worlds one universe??
“She had never thought what it might mean to be in a place where long ago all angels had been slain.” (referring to edom)
so is there a set of angels for each universe or something???? a raziel for each world or whatever?? I have so many questions 😔
This is the kind of stuff that makes my brain itch if I think too hard about it.
I need to reread TLBotW. Didn’t Sammael die, but the Sammael that came back seems to be the same entity, he was just MIA for a thousand years? Why didn’t he get replaced by a new Sammael like Belial did? And Lilith too. She’s still floating around in pieces in the void or something, she didn’t get replaced by a new one.
I think maybe the 5D chess of Heaven and Hell is just beyond our mortal comprehension and there is no sense to be found in it.

Rarest than rare original post about Shadowunters' ongoing books:
Those crafting theories for Chain of Thorns's ending based on SoBH should read/re-reread the Learn about Loss novella in Ghosts of the Shadow Market. And the Tlbotw epilogue, too.
If a character is alive and fine in stories set in 1937 and 2010 then the same character cannot die in 1903.
They can't even be banished for a long time, because the books are clear on what happens to demons who get banished and that is "dont show your ugly face here for at least a couple centuries, better yet for a millennia" (Lilith, Sammael), not "go play the tourist".

TSC Villains: Ranked from Most to Least Favorite
Listen, I adore The Shadowhunter Chronicles, but the villains have always been iffy for me. This list is purely opinion based, not factual at all.
Note: I havent included Samael or Janus. Samael, cuz I havent reached his parts yet in TLBOTW; Janus, cuz I wanna see how he is in TWP first before making any opinions of how he is as an antagonist.
1. The Cohort- Probably makes me a hypocrite since, much like the others, they're also cartoonishly evil with no redeemable qualities at all. But! Theyre memorable! This is villainy at its most entertaining! Every scene a Cohort member (cough cough Zara cough cough) was in, I kept wanting them to die, get smacked around, have their spine get ripped out and crunched. I felt something more than apathy or vague disappointment!
2. Shinyun Jung- In the spin-offs but she still counts! I didn't like how cartoonishly evil she became in the second book. Like, at all. Still way higher cuz of her portrayal in the first book, her interesting relationship with Magnus, and having a lot of good lines. Bigger bigger disappointment than Annabel and Malcolm, but at least I enjoy her more. Heck, one could even say I liked her.
3. Annabel Blackthorn- An even bigger disappointment than Malcolm. We did not get to know her very well, but at least some of her scenes were memorable. I appreciate Cassie's efforts in trying to write a non-evil villain.
4. Malcolm Fade- Truly disappointing villain. I thought I'd put him higher, but at a reread I realized he wasnt there that often. I really did like his absemtminded persona in the beginning, and he was actually close to killing Tavvy if it weren't for the Blackthorns finding hom out in time. He even got to resurrect Annabel successfully! Even if it ended horribly for him, he technically won in the end. Also. The diary entries in the cottage. Breaks my heart for what could have been, and makes me want to see a short story about their doomed romance.
You know what, maybe I put him so high cuz Im a sucker for a tragic romance. I did say this list was purely opinion-based.
5. Tatiana Lightwood- Putting her around the lower middle cuz so far I don't really...feel anything for her? I like her feelings and relationship with Jesse and Grace? The dress parrallel with Miss Haversham makes a super cool image? I'd have liked it more if we got to see some complicated feelings towards her brothers, cuz really all I saw was blind hate/willful ignorance towards their father's death, and some annoying complaining about them not giving her enough. Just /some/ sign of attachment, or grudging fondness towards their childhood. Maybe we'd hear more about the relationship with their father? Idk, her scenes in the books/extras dont even fill me with dread. She's just kind of...there for the conflict. But who knows? She could get better later on, we're only at one book for now anyways.
6. Sebastian Morgenstern- Don't care about this guy at all. Nope. He at least got some cool lines and sympathy points, where you actually got to see him in a casual setting, and his death and backstory were nice. Otherwise I hate him, demon blood!Sebastian was an irredeemable monster. Idk, I know that a villain can have no redeemable or human side whatsoever (ie Joker) and still be good. But I also know that I don't feel this way about him. Who knows? It's been a while since I've reread the whole series, so I can't really articulate the exact scenes or reasons why I put him this low, I just know what there's a reason.
7. Valentine Morgenstern- Would honestly been eighth place if it werent for his appearances in the spin offs, where you got to see him deal with the other Circle members. I didnt care about this guy much.
8. Axel Mortmain. I mean this one was obvious??? TID hada lot of good stuff in it, but it was definitely not the villain. I dont even... remember him?? Or a lot of his actions?? The only thing I found noteworthy was his backstory (10/10 good motivation) but it doesn't even do anything cuz a lot of the sympathy that can be gained there wasn't done correctly. I think I remember him finally being able to talk to his dad, and instead of being sad or touching-you know, cuz he finally met the father he lost- I didnt really feel anything of that? I dunno, I could be wrong. It's been a while.

just talk about tlbotw or chain of iron 😔 i’m desperate for anything about them
i’ll talk about coi because that’s the one i know more of
i think that sona and/or elias will die which will leave alastair in charge of the baby
for some reason (and this is very controversial) i think that cordelia and matthew will end together, i know that cordelia and james make more sense but it’s a gut feeling
i am pretty sure that grace will die?? maybe not in coi but most likely in co
i have a feeling charles will get a redemption arc
i am about 80% sure that jesse and lucie will end up together, and if they don’t end up together then i am 100% sure that he will find someone else and reproduce
jesse will definitely come back to life and i hope it’s in coi because i feel like it would be too rushed if it happened in cot??
👏 make thomas and alastair reconcile 2021 👏
this is really random but i think the cover of cot is going to be red or yellow (yellow would combine more with the other covers but idk)
i am really excited to know more about the blackthors?? i hope that cassie does give us more info about them like she said she would
cassie said a while ago that the flashbacks in coi were going to be from only one point of view and i think it’s going to be grace’s / jesse’s
i really hope that the cordelia / james / matthew thing doesn’t become a full blown love triangle in which cordelia clearly loves one more than the other but refuses to let go of the other (like twilight) because that’s shitty
i am excited to see anna’s and ariadne’s relationship develop (i don’t remember that much about them from gostm so i will reread that before coi is published)
i want to see more cordelia and lucie scenes
more anna and cordelia scenes
more cordelia 🥺
i’m curious about how things between lucie and grace will be once lucie realizes what grace is doing to her brother
james is definitely being freed from the bracelet in coi
i hope we see more of the green kelpie who’s name i forgot
