But hmmm Free the song itself? Hell yeah!

I relate Alec with Rumi and Magnus with Jinu and that’s how I’ll interpret the lyrics too!

These lyrics imo don’t fit Alec *exactly* but they come pretty close. Like. Let’s be honest, Rumi’s arc with her patterns was very queer coded, and it fits Alec so well. To being ashamed of his sexuality and hiding it to proudly displaying it.

And Magnus was probably the first person he could be truly himself with. With Magnus, he was free.

The line “you say you’re no good, but you’re good for me” reminds me of how Alec keeps choosing Magnus over and over again, even when people try to say otherwise, even when Magnus himself tries to push Alec away, even over the fucking world.

And the last two lines remind me of this line from the last Gotsm story, when Janus says that Alec was where he’d always wanted to be - by Magnus’s side.

And then there’s Jinu’s verse -

And just. Holy shit. Hooooly shit. These lines are Magnus to a T. The long immortal years. The heartbreaks, the calcification of his self which broke when Alec came along. Magnus’s Prince of Hell heritage and what it means to him. The way he finds true peace and quiet with Alec.

And then the chorus/post-chorus part

Ooof.

Okay, um, these lyrics imo fit not only the way Magnus and Alec found freedom in each other, but also their struggle throughout Cofa to Cohf. The secrets that keep me in chains. Their dark sides. We can’t fix it if we never face it. Let the past be the past till it’s weightless.

books have always and will always be political. being an american, i'm clinging tightly to this idea right now, and the characters i love, these ones among others, that taught me to never stop standing up for what's right. in the words of consul alec lightwood, "i don't need to change. and neither do you [...] it's the world that needs to change, and we're going to be the ones to change it." 🤍

Honestly I think a big reason that a lot of people were disappointed by various aspects of Seasons of Shadowhunters is just that we had so long to build up expectations in out heads that it felt wrong when we got something different, and this is why I'm majorly concerned about the fan response to TWP when it starts actually coming out.

I do believe the door was deliberate from the beginning. Meaning, from the time Eras Tour started, she knew a future project down the line would have an orange theme, but the details of that were not established at all yet.

It’s clear to me that both the events leading up to and the result of the TTPD album were a surprise to her (duh). So that was like, a little carrot 🔽 insert into her plans.

I don’t think she had specific aesthetics or any thinking for this album in mind at the beginning of Eras, but she did pick out the color and just sort of set it aside until she knew exactly where to go with it. (Orange like disco? Orange like jazz? Orange like southwestern sunsets and country? Could’ve been anything, really)

So the orange door was planned all along but NOT in some kind of ridiculous lost karma album that was actually written years ago way. It was just the only real color she hadn’t already used for a previous album, and the obvious next step.
