Deltarune’s Future “Important Character”
This is a topic I hardly see discussed, but two years ago on the official Deltarune website, Toby teased a future “Important Character” who would appear in one of the game’s future chapters after Chapter 2. To wit:

At the bottom, you can see “Important Character” listed with 100% first-pass progress. This was part of Toby’s 2020 Deltarune progress update released on Undertale’s 5th anniversary, meaning that this “Important Character” has likely had much of their design completed by now.
So the big question is: Who is this important character?
We can make a number of assumptions based on this limited information:
This character is not fully implemented in Chapters 1 or 2 (hence the need for development in Ch 3+)
This character is “important” to the story and/or the overall gameplay experience
This character is likely conceptually complex or resource-intensive in some way (hence their own separate entry on the progress list)
This character may or may not be counted among the game’s bosses, given they’re listed on the same line
I don’t have any solid idea of who this character could be since our information is so limited, but I have a few theories:
The Vessel

We see a glimpse of the Vessel at the beginning of Chapter 1 before it’s “discarded.” However, the customization options that we input are still saved in the game’s data. Given that the Thrash Machine returned in Chapter 2, I’m inclined to believe the Vessel will return in a future chapter.

Although the Vessel has technically been designed already, I could see Toby’s team going the extra mile and ensuring that the Vessel maintains whatever customization we initially gave them. This would necessitate several sprite variants and some extra programming to ensure that the custom head, body, and leg pieces fit together seamlessly while in motion.
It’s possible that the Vessel could also receive a dark world form and/or dialogue portraits—these would also likely correspond to our customization choices and make the Vessel several times more complex to design than an ordinary character.
Gaster

It wouldn’t be a theory post without Gaster somewhere, right? If Mysteryman is Gaster then technically he’s already designed, but this wouldn’t account for alternate forms, portraits, or a unique manner of speech.
In particular, I suspect that Gaster may have some voice-acted lines if he makes a proper appearance in future chapters. Although Entry No. 17 implies that Gaster has a (slightly atypical) typer sound like many characters, we have seen the Shadow Crystal holders Jevil and Spamton (who are likely connected to Gaster) make use of voice lines in their battles or theme music.
There’s also the fact that the Deltarune title screen features a voice saying “Deltarune,” mirroring how the entity who took over the Undertale Twitter ended their initial announcement by shouting “DELTARUNE!”

It’s also possible that the old “abc_123” sound file from Undertale that warned about not spoiling the game’s secrets could have been connected to Gaster, given that it makes use of text-to-speech voices (which are seemingly sampled in the Entry 17 “Gaster” typer sounds).
If Gaster does have voice acting then not only would that require recording/generating various voice lines but also making sure they play in sync with whatever dialogue or character interactions that Gaster could conceivably have in a cutscene, which would make such scenes more difficult to plan out. 
The “Important Character” line could also be a subtle reference to the Egg’s flavor text that refers to it as “not too important, not too unimportant.”

However, if Gaster does show up then I think it’s likely he’d be a late-game reveal or a secret boss, so it’s possible he may not even appear in Chapters 3-5. Even if he did show up, I think it’d be out of the question that we’d get a Gaster boss fight anywhere other than during an endgame scenario, so it’s questionable how many development resources would be spent on an early-bird Gaster appearance.
An “Omega Flowey”-esque Endgame Boss

This is a catch-all category for any genre-shifting spectacle boss that would close out Chapter 5. Flowey’s boss fight was Undertale’s biggest visual spectacle and it’s likely we might see another fight of its caliber in Deltarune. Flowey’s boss form was designed and animated by Everdraed, who has continued to work with Toby throughout Deltarune’s development.

But why would a boss fight like this would happen in Chapter 5 instead of Chapter 7? Well, Flowey’s fight wasn’t the final event in Undertale’s True Pacifist route, and with Deltarune’s expanded team and development time it’s possible we may get more than one endgame fight with a similar level of polish.
I also have a sneaking suspicion that Chapters 3-5 are going to provide some form of closure, equivalent to Undertale’s neutral route/ending, with subsequent Chapters serving as an analogue to the True Pacifist ending. That’s just a hunch, though.
As for who this boss could be, it’s anyone’s guess. Three candidates that jump out to me are the Roaring Knight, the Titans, or the Angel.

None of them have any more supporting evidence than the others--each are likely be late-game bosses and possibly the final boss. It all depends on what direction the story will go. One could debate whether the Titans or even the Angel qualify as “characters,” or conversely debate whether the Roaring Knight would require many development resources if they’re just a lightner we’ve likely already met. 
Kris

I figured I’d end this list on a bit of a curveball. Kris seems like the last person who’d be “in development,” given they’ve been the protagonist for the whole game. However, I’m referring to Kris’ true self—without the Soul influencing their actions.
We’ve caught glimpses of the true Kris, but never for any extended interaction. Do they have a dialogue portrait? What would a human’s portrait look like? Some early concept art subtly implies Kris could have a portrait.

Does “true” Kris have a unique typer sound? A voice, perhaps? And let’s not forget that, despite having the same “design,” true Kris has completely different movement sprites from Kris when the Soul is in control.
Things get more interesting when we consider the dark world. We’ve never seen true Kris in the dark world. They’d likely move differently and perhaps even carry a different weapon, which would require most of their sprites to be redone. There’s also the possibility that Kris’ true form could become a battle mechanic (assuming some future reconciliation between Kris and the Soul). Maybe “True Kris” would function as some kind of devil trigger/limit break transformation that places the battle on auto-pilot or does more damage? Just a thought.
Chapter 3 seems geared to be a Kris-focused chapter, given that we’ll be exploring a dark world of their own creation. It also feels like Kris has been exerting greater influence than in Chapter 1, given that they can affect the way certain dialogue choices are delivered.

Kris also seemingly gains greater ability to railroad the Soul’s choices at the end of Chapter 2, depending on how one interprets the narration.

If this trend continues then I think we’ll be having a “heart to heart” with Kris sooner rather than later.

So I’m currently drawing a comic which depicts my take on the “Frisk takes Flowey to the surface” scenario. As you could tell in the title, this comic serves as my “extension” of the post pacifist ending of Undertale, particularly Flowey’s epilogue dialogue from said ending. Since this is the first time I’m writing a full scale Undertale comic, I’m working on how I’m handling writing for UT characters, as well as providing my own lore that I’m hoping would be canon compliant. But feel free to provide feedback on how I’m writing within the Undertale universe, and I can see if I can address them to the best of my ability somehow.
As of this writing this comic is still in the works so hopefully I can upload more of these as I complete them.
Notes:
This comic is inspired by LynxGriffin’s Flowey comic where Frisk takes him to the surface. In fact this comic really opened my eyes in that no… you don’t need to “re-goat” Flowey back into Asriel so that he could be brought to the surface. Should note that the 4th panal was referenced off from this comic's 4th panal here (its from the same comic linked above) since I suck at drawing and needed some inspiration for this scene. @lynxgriffin I hope you dont mind.
I consider the Alarm Clock Dialogue to be canon within the Undertale universe. But one thing that I found strange is that although it seems to be a post pacifist world, Flowey is apparently on the surface being an edgy flower boy, a far cry from his dialogue from his post-pacifist epilogue. Like, was Flowey nice one day and then afterwards he’s an edgy boi on the next day? This comic will (hopefully) address the transition, but it is interesting that in both the actual game and the alarm clock dialogue, Flowey’s edgy personality isn’t THAT consistent. UNDERTALE 5th Anniversary Alarm Clock Winter Dialogue - Flowey
I’m hoping that this comic will serve as the prologue to the Undertale AU that I’m working on, but before I can even get the story for that one started I would like to do this comic first.
The way Frisk is able to summon Flowey’s “soul” came from this part in another UT comic called Ask Fallen Royalty. I thought the way in that comic, Asriel summoning Chara’s soul by a pointing boop was cute… and really calls back to Kris when they do ACTs in Deltarune. I made a change for one of Flowey's dialouges. Initially he guessed that Frisk was gonna reset but that dosent make sense in context of the story. So its been changed to him simply asking what does Frisk want instead.

september 5th, 2022, 9:30pm est: toby fox makes a new tweet, announcing that, although there wont be any new chapters this year, he's planning something special for undertale/deltarune ch2's anniversary. he closes twitter, preparing the final touches for something he know's his fans will get excited for. or even just enjoy, sonce it won't be a new deltarune act.
september 5th, 2022, 9:25pm est: the sexyman of the day twitter account prepares another sexyman tournament, to see who can become the next sexyman. sans & reigen are both contenders for said tournament.
september 6th, 2022: reigen easily won best dilf & twink of twitter, catching everyone off guard. looking back at the sexyman tournament, theyve reached the semifinals: and its all down to bill cipher, sans, ingo, and reigen
september 7th, 2022, 11:40am est: the finals are set. its now between sans and reigen. for the whole day, sans, undertale, reigen, and sexyman are trending on twitter. toby fox checks out twitter from a fellow tip, and sees whats going on. so, he opens up an empty doc on his computer, and starts typing,
september 7th, 2022, 11:49pm est: the results are in; sans won by .1% of the votes. the sans crowds are cheering. the OG sexyman that never made sense has been titled "ULTIMATE TUMBLR SEXYMAN"
september 8th, 2022, 1am est: toby fox finally replies to the tweet with his own fanfiction about the event:

What if he’s been in control since the end of Mayhem?
Okay, my left eye’s in pain from straining and all, but fuck it, I NEED to share this theory because I am quite a bit SHOOK and I need others to hear this. Brace yourselves, guys. This is going to be a LONG post.
I’ve seen a lot of theories before in regards to who’s been in control all this time, and I admittedly was one of those people who suspected Anti’s been here since Say Goodbye. But then there have been other theories in regards to Schneep having saved Jack every time Anti slit his neck, pointing out how bloodshed probably triggers Anti to come out. Now let’s say that’s the case, in which case Anti hasn’t been in control since Say Goodbye; he’s just shown up anytime Jack bled. That would mean we have been watching Jack for the most part with Anti trying to glitch out on camera and take control. Keep this all in mind, okay?
With what happened yesterday with Anti clearly being in control, acting calm and staring into our souls, only a twitch of his eye being a clear giveaway of who we were seeing, it made me have an epiphany last night:
If Anti’s gotten THAT good - THAT seamless - at acting exactly like Jack to the point no glitches show up, has he been in control for some time? Have we been unknowingly watching him for the last couple of months? And if he has been in control, well then when did it all start - when did we unknowingly lose sight of Jack?
The answer? May 16th, “Exiles” - near the end of Mayhem.
In the “Exiles” video, at the beginning, Jack was breathing quite heavy and looking around, looking and acting like he had just gotten transported there. He said he didn’t know anything about the game and he blatantly said he didn’t remember how he got into the room (in a hospital, by the way).

He also rubs at his eyes earlier on.

And it isn’t until the end of the video when THIS happens.

During mid-sentence, unexpectedly, he gets cut off and is suddenly staring at us, wide-eyed and mouth hanging agape. Soft groans of agony are heard rasping out of him as his eyes begin to bleed, all while whispers repeat “It’s your fault” in the background.
Jump to May 22nd, “First Winter”. A few glitches of the facecam are shown throughout the video, and at 2-3 instances, we see this:

Between the brief glitches, we get glimpses of Jack with bloody tears lining his face, eyes glazed over with emptiness, mouth agape, slumped in his chair. He’s dead. 
Where I’m going with this is what if during the time of Exiles, Anti got to Jack, killed him AGAIN (just like Say Goodbye, used bloodshed to get control), got him out of the way, and took over right there and then. And the flashes of Jack’s corpse in his chair was an indication of that - a hint to us that the guy currently playing the game is NOT Jack and that the REAL Jack fucking died AGAIN a week before. 
Keeping this all in mind, I went back to look into anything and everything that has happened AFTER “Exiles” to see how Jack’s behavior has been, and boy oh boy, guys...
Firstly, as far as I can tell, before “First Winter”, there were no glitches (excluding the ending of “Stories Untold - Chapter 4″ when Jack woke up and any glitches that showed Marvin or JJ). We got a few strange and eerie things here and there, such as the ending to the “GIANT SMELLY FEET!” video

On June 11th - after Mayhem - he commented on a post with “Anti isn’t afraid of anything”

He reblogged fanart of Anti as a deviant, commenting with “F R E E”

And the titles of both videos that day were very ominous.

July 23rd - in his roast video, he said, “This is your chance to get a few stabs in. Get the knife, go crazy. Twist it, turn it!”, with an eerie smile and crazed look in his eyes at the end.

July 25th - the goddamn intro....the goddamn intro is the exact opposite. It’s supposedly Anti’s intro - word for word.

July 29th - He reblogged artwork of Jackieboy Man with the artist commenting on how they miss him. He commented with “We all do :)”
He also reblogged a gifset of him from REACT explaining how people want to see behind the veil, commenting with a winky face.

August 1st - he changed the title of the 1st FNAF Sister Location video to “THE START OF THE NIGHTMARE”

August 3rd - in the outro, Sam’s tank is broken and a figure is faintly seen laughing or screaming the background. Maybe it’s Jack trying to call out for help? (Just a little reminder: This was the anniversary of KJSE, in which we barely even heard Jack call out for help in....)

August 5th - at the very end, “I will return when you least expect it” is heard being said in reverse (If Anti’s been in control for this long and we haven’t been able to notice till now, I’d say it’s pretty fucking unexpected).
September 21st - Oh boy. There were glitches.

September 24th - OH BOY. There were glitches, some of which showed Anti from “Dark Silence”

His right eye in the thumbnail is glitchy and has a small green tint to it.

And the title changed multiple times, once asking “HAVEYOUSEENHIM” and another with “HELP” combined with “edited” - maybe Jack’s trying to call out for our help.

October 14th - there were glitches in the video, most notable a glitch splitting down his face to show one side all glitchy, all right as he said, “Time to take off the masks” while grinning.

Earlier on, he questioned if he was dead, checked his pulse, and confirmed that he was in fact dead.

October 16th - the description was calling us out as puppets and asking us if we knew who the Puppet Master was - possibly Anti taking a jab at us.

October 20th - there were a few glitches with someone - possibly Chase - trying to reach out and tell Jack to wake up, only to get cut off.

October 22nd - During the Q&A at the Amsterdam show, he was questioned if Anti would be back on Halloween. He said “I don’t know, I can’t tell, maybe, who knows?” (If Anti’s been in control all this time, then he was right there, boldface lying to everyone because surprise surprise, he’s been here the entire time!)
October 26th - the title of the video blatantly telling us “The end is here”

November 11th - He reblogged a post about the Undertale thumbnails relating to Anti, to which he commented with “Time is broken”. He also reblogged fanart of the egos pixelated in Deltarune style, reading “Your wonderful creations will be discarded now”, to which he commented with “This is a neat idea!”
November 12th - at times, while voicing Susie, his voice bordered on sounding like Anti while angry. His right eye also acted up twice.

He was seen wearing his gauges this day as well.
November 19th - the title - possibly in reference to Anti having to kill Jack repeatedly to get control.

I would like to point out here that, to me, it seems like any of the glitches we’ve seen before this have been more...subtle? Like, with Say Goodbye, Always Watching, KJSE - the glitches all seemed more frantic and intense. Any glitches we’ve gotten this year leading up to THIS video seemed a lot more subtle to me and it wasn’t until “Umfend” when we got more spastic glitches. Just an observation - maybe because it’s getting closer to when a certain someone was going to show himself...
December 6th - He was seen wearing his gauges to the awards. (Granted, it could be just because he wants to wear them for fun, but still...maybe our glitchy boy is getting more comfortable in his new meat suit).
December 7th - the title informing us to watch the ending (also a jab at what happened yesterday)

The goddamn outro was all glitchy and Sam disappears on 2-3 occasions - could be implying that Jack truly is gone and a certain someone is in control...

December 9th - at one point during the stream, he’s looking at Ethan like he wants to kill him (this just reminds me of last year’s Christmas stream when he told Ethan he was feeling murderous)

December 11th - the title - could be in reference that the big twist is that we’ve been watching Anti this whole time.

At this point, he’s just blatantly telling us that he is right there in front of us, that he’s the one in control and we’re too fucking blind to see it. He took control of Jack way back in May during “Exiles” - just lured him in and with no warning, got to him. He made his eyes bleed, and with that, managed to kill him AGAIN and take control, and this time he’s ACED becoming human. How?
Schneep wasn’t there to save Jack this time.
Why?
Do you guys remember the last time we saw Schneep? Do you?

We last saw him on MAY 4TH! I would also like to add how - to me, anyway - it sounded like his voice cracked at one point and like there was pure madness in his eyes. Cause remember this, we STILL have no idea what happened from August 3rd, 2017 up to this date. We STILL have no idea what happened to our doctor. Yeah, some of you will say he had gone of vacation, but really, after what happened in KJSE, I CANNOT see how or why he would’ve gone on vacation. As I see it, he’s either horribly traumatized, he was corrupted by Anti, or he got replaced (in which case, the man seen here would not be Schneep).
I would also like to add, you know who else we haven’t seen since then?

Dr. Jacksepticeye - the one man we can all agree is NOT our doctor.
May 4th was the last time we ever saw Schneep and Dr. JSE. This was BEFORE Jack woke up and remembered what Anti did, as well as before he was murdered in “Exiles”. For 7 months now, we haven’t seen Schneep or Dr. JSE. 7 MONTHS! 
Kind of coincidental if you ask me to have Schneep vanish only days before Jack was trapped, murdered, and possessed. Almost like it was all a trap....maybe Dr. JSE was a puppet or Anti in disguise, used to lure Schneep out...to take him out of the picture for good. Because without a doctor around, Jack’s left a helpless victim.
7 Months for the glitch to FINALLY truly adjust to his new meat suit and learn how to stay in control.
To learn how to become human.
Now everyone, take a look at this man’s face again...

So I’m currently drawing a comic which depicts my take on the “Frisk takes Flowey to the surface” scenario. As you could tell in the title, this comic serves as my “extension” of the post pacifist ending of Undertale, particularly Flowey’s epilogue dialogue from said ending. Since this is the first time I’m writing a full scale Undertale comic, I’m working on how I’m handling writing for UT characters, as well as providing my own lore that I’m hoping would be canon compliant. But feel free to provide feedback on how I’m writing within the Undertale universe, and I can see if I can address them to the best of my ability somehow.
As of this writing this comic is still in the works so hopefully I can upload more of these as I complete them.
Notes:
-This comic is inspired by LynxGriffin’s Flowey comic where Frisk takes him to the surface. In fact this comic really opened my eyes in that no… you don’t need to “re-goat” Flowey back into Asriel so that he could be brought to the surface. I consider the Alarm Clock Dialogue to be canon within the Undertale universe. But one thing that I found strange is that although it seems to be a post pacifist world, Flowey is apparently on the surface being an edgy flower boy, a far cry from his dialogue from his post-pacifist epilogue. Like, was Flowey nice one day and then afterwards he’s an edgy boi on the next day? This comic will (hopefully) address the transition, but it is interesting that in both the actual game and the alarm clock dialogue, Flowey’s edgy personality isn’t THAT consistent. UNDERTALE 5th Anniversary Alarm Clock Winter Dialogue - Flowey

my lengthy-ass post on game development and game release
yeaaaaa, ive been thinking about this for the past hour or so, and especially thinking about what my friends and other young people have talked about, i just decided to type out my feelings and thoughts about game development and game releases in terms of hyped up indie games (like silksong & deltarune chapter 2 + beyond)
but since this will be a huge post, im just gonna put it under a “read more” thing. if you wanna hear my thoughts on this, you can click the link below (this is basically comparable to a video essay ig)
but if you want a tldr, what my thoughts are is that dont give your hopes up on silksong, deltarune, & any other games releasing like very soon since you gotta take content implementation, bug testing/polishing, translations, porting, marketing, & announcements into consideration
with all that said, lets begin
so i remember talking to my friends a while ago about some of the most hyped up games release dates. you know, stuff like hollow knight: silksong or deltarune chapter 2+. especially after the updates given out by each developer/team recently, people are getting very excited to try out these games very soon this very year.
and by very soon, i mean like silksong (the full entire game) coming out THIS MONTH, and the entirety of deltarune (chapter 2 & however many chapters toby fox has planned) for THIS SUMMER IN ONE PACKAGE!!!
which, when i heard these, i thought they were all too good to be true! in fact, they’re all too good to be true. silksong DEFINITELY won’t come out this month, and i know for a Fact deltarune, the full package, won’t be out by this summer. and of course, that’s because of one thing that alot of us took for granted in terms of game development: the finalized touches.
before i go on, i just want to make this very clear: i am not a game design major. im not even in the industry. if anything, im an illustration major (currently), and all of what im gonna say is what i picked up from what other game devs have talked about and from other creative media industries (movie & tv show industry precisely). this is also really just speculation and opinionated, really the main point of this whole post is that you shouldn’t bet on silksong & deltarune coming out so soon from very easy theories and crazy misunderstandings on video game development, i am just giving out my own thoughts on when the game could possibly release (but tbf, i could be very wrong and we could get silksong out this month & the entirety of deltarune this summer. i don’t feel like we will, but it could be very possible and this whole post would be absolutely worthless)
now, i know tons of young people going into game development majors or want to be in the industry have tons of respect for the game development process. and thats good!!! im glad they have respect for the people actually making the content for the game and developing the full package. however, people usually take the finalized touches, imo, for granted more than the actual content development.
because how did people come to the conclusion about silksongs & deltarunes release date so soon???
from what i’ve heard from my friends and other people, silksong should come out this month to coincide with the anniversary of hollow knight, and because “team cherry is bad at marketing and releasing a game”
and with deltarune’s (the full package) release date, that was taking the whole game into consideration, and people’s speculation that deltarune would just be 4 chapters and that the whole thing will be released as one big package instead of episodic, despite the marketing of deltarune “chapter 1″
now, these sound a little bit reasonable. i mean, its been a while since we heard of them back in 2019 and 2018 respectively, and it makes perfect sense to release silksong on hollow knight’s anniversary and deltarune as a full game This Summer.
however, i still think that’s way too good to be true, and that’s because i took a few things into consideration: content implementation, bug fixing/polishing, translation, porting, and actually releasing the game (marketing/having the game up to a releasable state, and actually releasing the game). and to put this into my perspective, i thought about mario odyssey back in 2017
if you’re a nintendo fan like me and were hyped about the nintendo switch back in 2017, then you may remember mario odyssey and the hype around that game alone. when they revealed it back in 2017, they didn’t give a release date. a day after the reveal, mario odyssey devs came out straight and said they finished the game. the game was fully completed. however, they still didn’t give a release date, they just said that they’d spend this time polishing up the game.
and, i know it’s totally unfair to compare the polishing process between nintendo games & indie games since nintendo games are very well known for their polish, so they take more time to polish a game rather than. the next call of duty game.
however, this has given me a perspective as to how long developers spent on polishing the game. if we are to take nintendo at their word back then from when they announced they finished the game to release (which was late october 2017) then that means they spent 8-9 months alone on polish and bug fixing and maybe even translation. yes, you could have a finished game with all of the content in there, and you could feasibly release it as a switch launch title in march around the same time as breath of the wild; however, the developers didn’t feel mario odyssey was ready for release.
it wasn’t until e3 2017 when they felt proud to announce the release date for mario odyssey. this is important because that means that not only were the close to finishing the polishing & bug fixing state of the game, but that means they were done with translations and ready for marketing the game out to potential consumers. they spent who knows how long on polishing (probably anywhere between 6-9 months on polishing & bug testing alone) and they probably spent around the same amount of time on marketing the game.
now, like i said, its totally unfair to compare these two different design philosophies, as one is from a huge video game conglomerate that had years of game design vs small indie studios that only released their first game in the past decade, but let’s try to put this into perspective of silksong and deltarune
with silksong, team cherry had said they had gained new experience from hollow knight, both in terms of developing the actual games themselves and releasing them. this includes developing the game, implementing the content, and finalizing everything (from bug fixing and polishing, to marketing and releasing). and in terms of how they handled hollow knight’s original release, remember. that was their first game, they were very unsure as to how to market and release a game.
after hollow knight’s success, especially on switch, however, team cherry has gained experience as to how to finalize, market and release a game at a playable, releasable state. 
in my personal opinion, especially with what team cherrys marketing manager had said recently, the content is done. they’ve finished all the content for silksong (the base game) and are in the finalized state of implementing everything into the game. however, that doesn’t mean for sure the game will come out on february 24th, 2021 for steam, switch & ps4 & xbox one (maybe even ps5 & series x)
they still gotta add any finishing polish to the game, they still gotta find and fix any bugs in the game, and even when they’re confident on that regard, you still gotta take marketing into account and when’s the right time to release the game. and in that point of view, you can probably imagine it won’t be until another few months until we hear anything substantial about silksong
and especially seeing as how silksong is gonna be a switch exclusive at first, silksong could be as easily released as hollow knight’s switch port was released; as an announcement in a big event, and on that same day. which would mean we could get silksong out for the nintendo switch during e3 2021. however, i was only being easy, fair, and reasonably realistic with silksong. it could come out sooner than i thought, or even later than i thought.
now, with deltarune, i am definitely very unsure about how far that game is in development and when that game will release, especially since all we have to go off of is undertale, the demo (deltarune chapter 1), and what toby fox officially said for undertale’s 5th anniversary on famitsu & on his website.
first, let’s go off of the claims i’ve heard people say about how long this game will be. “deltarune will be 4 chapters long, because there are 4 seasons in a year like undertale and because delta is the greek number for 4.” while that sounds reasonable, why hasn’t toby fox given us a sure amount of chapters he has planned for the game?
especially considering that in his official update on his website he kept emphasizing “chapters” and “multiple chapters” and “chapters 3+”, and the fact he separated chapter 2 from chapter 3+. from his words alone, it sounds like chapter 2 will be released separately from the entire rest of the game??? but that could just be me, and people are most excited about chapter 2 more than anything, so really he could just be talking about the state of the whole game by including chapter 2 separately, especially considering the entirety of deltarune will be built off of chapter 2.
but besides my speculation on chapter 2, the fact he didn’t give a sure amount of chapter numbers, and he even specifically said on release readiness he put “0%”, that just doesn’t translate to “this game should be ready for release in the summer of 2021″, despite the fact that he said development on the game is going smoothly, even taking his physical state that hes in right now.
i personally think the game could be around 4-7 chapters long if he’s planning on implementing multiple chapters in the game, even though the first draft of the games story and dialogue has already been finished in september 2020. and even if we were to go off of deltarune being 4 chapters long, it still doesn’t feel right to say this game will be out this summer??
i personally think if the full game will be 4 chapters, i feel more confident in saying the full 4 chapter game will be out by this upcoming holiday season at the earliest, and if not then, the latest would be somewhere in the first half of 2022. and if it won’t be 4 chapters long like im guessing it would, then it could be released even later than expected. again, i’m basing this off of words taken straight from toby fox’s mouth in september 2020, things couldve obviously changed since then and i could be very wrong about when this game will come out.
but i know for a fact deltarune wont fully be released this summer, they still gotta develop the later chapters and put this game into a full package or release it episodically (even though people are confident that the game will be released in one package, i haven’t heard toby fox officially say anything about how the game will be released, just how the game has been developed so far), which of course is taking polishing/bug fixes into account, and marketing as well
i know for a fact polishing & bug fixes & even marketing wont take as long as nintendo games, but i do know they won’t be done very easily or quickly, and we still shouldn’t be too sure about when these games or any future game will come out
i guess that’s actually just the point of this whole post. unless its people with refuteable sources that have been spot on with predictions or it’s officially said from the mouths of these developers, then don’t bet on silksong or deltarune coming out so soon because of rumors or speculation
i could even be wrong about everythign that i’ve just said. im not a game major, like i said, so silksong could probably come out on february 24th, 2021, and maybe deltarune will come out this summer. i’m very sure it isn’t, but i could be wrong and know nothing about the game development process, and really toby fox’s team & team cherry are game development gods, and i’m surprised nintendo hasn’t bought them out by now so they could release splatoon 3, mario odyssey 2, mario galaxy 3, the diamond and pearl remakes, and metroid prime 4 right now /s
but yea, like i said, don’t count on silksong & deltarune coming out so soon, and maybe take the final stages of development and marketing and releasing more realistically rather than overlooking them and making unsubstantiated claims based off of speculation
