‘lets admit it, Greek mythology loves to recycle the same plots where a woman can only be a victim in need of saving or a monster in need of slaying’ y’all don’t like let alone read mythology.

My thoughts on Primer: Clashing Colors #1 - "Color Me Impressed" (2024)
This was a comic I was waiting a long time for and was super excited about its story. Not because omg New character, Primer!! Nah, because of Teen Titans lol
That too the TEEN TITANS ANIMATED SERIES 2003
I seriously had high hopes for this comic but let's just say I'm disappointed.
Without getting into spoilers,
The writing is just meh at best. Primer is fleshed out decently but the writing for TT03 cast is horrendous at worst and ooc at best.
This comic also suffers from the "Telling but not showing" problem, similar to Nightwing (2016) comic by Taylor.
It's clear that the writers prefered Primer but it's almost like they didn't really do much research over the Titans' personality and that was of less priority. They act a lot like their TTG! (2013) Counterparts rather than TT03 characters. Even the humour is similar to TTG! (2013) and not the original show unlike what was being advertised.
As a Primer comic, it gets the job done and highlights her nicely but as a teen titans fan who was looking forward for the TT content rather than Primer, it's pretty disappointing and saddening.
⚠️ Now getting into spoilers ⚠️
(click off if you want to or scroll down to the end if you wanna skip and basically go to the summary)
The introduction to Primer is pretty decent and I think it does a decent job and blooming her personality.
I believe most of you here must have seen this particular panel in the teasers before the comic's release. It catches the TT03 essence nicely but this is where characterisation jumps in.
Tumblr media
As I said Primer as a character isn't of concern to me but as a TT fan, TT is.
So here's where things went downhill in characterisation and character consistency.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You are saying Slade came out in the open, got unmasked and it's of NO big deal to Robin?
Lemme rephrase this to you; Slade, the evil mastermind, who never does anything without a reason and NEVER leaves his basement other than the reason for kidnapping children, touched grass and came out at day and Robin is unphased? It doesn't make ANY sense.
Even more so, when the story tries to pretend it's on purpose.
Tumblr media
Slade was NEVER unmasked other than that skull reveal scene and that one Easter egg from TTG! 2003 spin off comics. So the fact, this scene was displayed as something comical is genuinely baffling. The Titans KNOW he doesn't get caught unless there's a catch. This part makes absolutely zero sense.
Then this part ...
Tumblr media
The problem with this part is, characterisation. BB debatably acts like himself but Raven? No. It's ooc for her to go "Awww :D" like that. If anything, the best possibility is that she'll say the same line but she'll say it with full and utter sarcasm.
I think most BBRAE fans will agree with me on this one but they both had romantic POTENTIAL but they weren't anything other than good pals in the show. And we haven't gotten any hint at their relationship even in the spin off comics which were canon to show. Which in simpler terms means, this is ooc. Most of the development BBRae can have is after the show and after they get older. But the comic claims they are same Titans who haven't aged a day thus THIS IS OUT OF CHARACTER FOR RAVEN TO SAY!
Raven is a gloomy, sarcastic character who doesn't express what she feels instantly or openly, it would have made a lot more sense if she said the same line sarcastically (where she could blush implying a subtext incase they really wanted to insert BBRae but not making too obvious)
It really makes no sense for her character as depicted in TT03 to suddenly melt at the idea BB giving her tulips if it is the same Raven from TT03. Raven isn't that stereotypical girl character. She's a reserved and introverted person who was still learning to open up even to the series very end.
If this is the TT we know and love, this can't be her.
I'm not bashing the ship btw, I'm bashing the writing. Atleast be faithful to the character's personality while doing fan service!!
If you say, it's the same people who haven't aged a day since the last time you met. You can't have it be that oh yk they changed. Both the statements can't be true at the same time.
Then this scene:
Tumblr media
This scene looks straight up from TTG. Back to making Robin dumb af and the team bashing him into normalcy. I'm tired of this trope like jeez, TT ROBIN WAS NOT LIKE THAT!!!
Infact if anything, "Can we just call it 'the battery'?" Line is something BB would say not Raven. Also Starfire getting mad at Robin for saying a long name and rolling eyes? She would never. Robin taught her earth customs and language patiently. If anything, she's that one person who would never eye roll on Robin even if he says something dumb. If it's the same Starfire from TT03 AS ADVERTISED.
Then there's this panel....
Tumblr media
Two things, Robin never had a car in TT03. He had a bike named R-Cycle. Second, Starfire always carried Robin while Beast Boy carried Cyborg as a Pterodactyl. The Titan with a car was Cyborg. And when the car was out, everyone rode the car instead of taking the skies. Why the hell would Cyborg be carried out by Starfire when the car is right there??? It makes no sense.
It's incredibly strange how the writer is going long lengths to not make the two (Robin and Starfire) even merely interact with eachother.
How hard is it to just be canon accurate? These are stuff you catch on literally one rewatch. Did the writers not even do that or did they go with fanon or what they remembered from their childhood or like spent 5 mins trying to remember the characters through YT shorts and called it a day?
Like this is the only time they technically look at eachother to talk anything other than business:
Tumblr media
Then coming back to Slade, I said the story tries to pretend it was all on purpose.
Tumblr media
This further proves that this Slade isnt the same evil mastermind we knew of. This is some other guy.
Then this,
Tumblr media
Yk what the awful part is? This . This isn't something you would see in TT03 or anything similar. This is simply something you can expect to see in a fan comic.
And wanna know what's worse? Ravager already existed in TT03 verse except she was Rose Wilson not this guy. This simply just means the writers didn't even BOTHER doing minimum research on the show beforing stamping in characters.
========================================
SPOILERS END!!!
Like I am genuinely lacking words as to describe this mess of a Teen Titans 2003 representation. This isn't them at all.
If anything, this isn't anything like they promoted and advertised. If anything, this is simply a TT03 AU which has nothing to do with the show.
It's neither faithful to the show nor the characters nor the established canon.
If anything, this feels like a shameless cash grab..ik some of y'all be mad at me for saying this but yeah. That is what this is.
If anything, it feels like a clickbait way to get people to Primer without actually bothering to respect that clickbait through which you are trying to pull people in.
It's shameful and disappointing and if I'm being honest, this got boring fast. I didn't enjoy it at all.
The writers prioritised cheap comedy and Primer over the Titans who are apparently a big part of her journey. They didn't even feel hesitant in making all the characters go ooc. The story itself is pretty bland and not interesting and genuinely nothing unique about it other than the Titans who apparently were TT03 as left on the final episode.
Anyway, this feels like an AU TT03 self insert OC fan comic at best or a version of TT based on TTG 2013. Frankly, it has the humor and characterization of TTG. Infact, I think this can totally work out as a 'tame' episode in TTG.
Introduction of Primer to TT and her demeanor to them to get along and on the team gave off Massive Terra vibes, it's almost like the writers got heavily inspired from it.
Tldr, the characterisation and characters of TT aren't like their TT03 counterpart but rather TTG one with a lot more grounded personalities. They often go ooc and say things which they won't say if we went with TT03 canonicity. Deathstroke is basically a joke now. The story itself is boring and uninteresting and doesn't make me like Primer any better. The comic falsely promotes this as the TT03 version even though this is, at best, a TT universe maybe inspired by the 2003 show but not the 2003 show. It's closer to 2013 one.
Personally, I'm severely disappointed and I'm gonna say it again, this is a total cashgrab and not worth reading.

Titans United Bloodpact
Tumblr media
Do you want to read about an alternative universe where Raven's the evil overlord? Read this.
Normally I hate when comics do alternative universes where a character is the evil overlord at a high level. I find they end up too grimdark and heavyhanded and just not something I personally like to read.
This one is one of the better ones though. I can't even tell you how - it has all the tropes and characterization choices that I usually find annoying but I didn't find myself forcing myself to finish reading it. Maybe because it had some pretty good pacing and didn't sit on the grimdark moments for too long.
Oh and this is not at all a tie-in to the Titans HBO show. It's not even like the previous one where it was clear they picked the characters based on who appeared in that show. This is comics-Titans through and through.
Should you read it? If you like dark alternative universes this is worth the read and if you don't like them maybe give this a shot to see if you have a similar experience that I did.

honestly aside from my attachment to tt03 and how it made my childhood, i genuinely do not believe they're mischaracterized like i think they're just teenagers, teenagers are cringe, people-pleasing, immature, moody, emotional, traumatized, different and take life way too seriously, they're not exactly gnna be like yk their comic versions who are btw adults, why do you think the series is called teen titans like ofc it's going to talk about teenagers and why they chose them to be that age because unlike adults, they're free to make mistakes, unlike children, they're free to learn and remedy their old ways
being a teenager means to essentially be in a phase or stage where you're trying to navigate the world and let go or either stand by the beliefs you grew up with or are self-imposed. being a teenager means to be perfectly imperfect.
so seeing adults criticize the whole thing is...YOU DONT GET ITTTT.

Teen Titans 1966... Finished!
I wrote an entire post about all of this stuff and lost it! I'm just going to rewrite another one and hope Tumblr doesn't vanish it to the abyss! Soooo! I finished the TT 1966 run and wanted to recap how I felt about it and the characters!
+++Spoilers for Teen Titan's 1966 run+++
Dick Grayson aka Robin: I'd actually started this because I started binging all of the Batman cartoons! I'll make a post about that if I feel like it, but for now, I'm reading the TT comics because I wanted to get into the Robins and I'm starting with Dick. I've already read some of his first appearances in the Detective Comics and Robin Year One. I really liked him in this series and was bummed out when he left for college?? I hated that arch with a burning PASSION! They broke up the TT for a stupid reason. Like, I get it, but it felt so weird. It also meant less of Robin who was the voice of reason and the only smart one at times which sucked. I was sooo happy when he came back. Overall, my favorite character. Donna Troy aka Wonder Girl: I really liked her! At times she was annoying, but she was the stereotypical teen girl trope, which was at times funny too. I much prefer her newer costume to the old one. Especially in the newer comics where it's black with silver stars! I didn't like her whole thing with Wally and Roy. I could have done without it. It also felt like she was sidelined when Lilith arrived. I'll get more into that when I talk about... Lilith. Overall, I thought she was okay. Wally West aka Kid Flash: I wanted to like him, I really did, but his whole possessive thing with WG, to him having an inferiority complex, was very annoying. I actually preferred him when he was just doing his thing and not trying to 'woo' WG or be the defacto leader. Overall, he was fine. Roy Harper aka Speedy: I honestly either loved him or hated him with no in between. He was great in the earlier parts of the series, but as soon as he became a regular member, he started to get annoying. I guess that's just his character. He's stubborn, kind of rude, and thinks he knows everything. There were also little side stories at the end of some of the comics where they went into depth on some of the characters. There was this one where it was Roy as a small child and he thought Green Arrow was going to replace him. It was very sad and I felt soooo bad for him. 😢 This also got me into reading the two parts of the GA and GL comic series where Roy (TW: dr*g ab*se) got addicted to heroin. GA was such a jerk and I honestly see where Roy got some of his attitude from. It made me highkey dislike GA. Overall, he was good at times and annoying at others. Garth aka Aqualad: I thought he was pretty funny when they'd actually let him do things. He was sidelined hardcore near the end of the comics which was a shame. He would sometimes act as the voice of reason, albeit in a more crashout kind of way, which I found funny. I also think he was much more mature than the others in a way. Overall, I enjoyed his presence in the comics. Others: Malcom - I hated him at first but liked him later on. I think I just didn't like the arch he was introduced in. He was highly disrespected by the other Titans and he deserved better. Lilith - HATED her with a burning passion! She was so annoying! Every time she was there, I was groaning with annoyance. Her little side stories at the end of the comics were quite literally the only ones I didn't read. She also sidelined Donna when Donna was right about to move into a new place and do her own thing. Hated all of it.
Karan aka Bumblebee - I really liked her! It just sucks that she was introduced at the very end of the series. I would have liked to see more from her with the Titans.
Garfield aka Beast Boy - Annoying as well. He wasn't in it as much as Lilith due to being in the Doom Patrol for most of it. I hope he's not this annoying in the next series I read. I'm pretty sure I'll be reading TT 80's next.
Gnarrk - Hated everything about him. I also hated how they made Lilith out to be sort of like his mom and then had them get engaged at the end. It was gross.
Duela Dent aka Joker's Daughter/ Harlequin - I actually really liked her and how she'd sass Roy back. He needed someone who wasn't Wally getting on his case about being rude. I also would have liked to see more of her. At first, I thought she was Lilith because of the ESP thing with Two-Face, but that turned out to just be because he's her father.
+++
I actually liked reading the comic for the most part. There were some issues that I had to take breaks while reading them because I thought they were boring, but there were also others I couldn't stop reading. Overall, I'd rate the series 5/10! I can't wait to read more comics and potentially give more reviews that no one cares about!

What's this? Someone posting my ORIGINAL hyperfixation? In our year 2025!
Hallo new friend, prepare for questions.
What is your favorite episode! Or favorite non-core Titan! Is there anyone from the comics you wish the show had done?
Haha hello!! Nice to see a fellow Teen Titans fan here! :] Yeah, years have passed, but this show is going to be forever stuck in my heart! It was one of my absolute favourites during my childhood. Throught the years I kinda forgot about it, but recently I rewatched it again and the hyperfixation hit me like a truck. Let's just say, it's good to be back! :D Picking a favourite episode is definitely a difficult task, so I'll just pick few of my favourite ones! Spoiler: they're mostly centered around Robin, he's my favourite character lol
Apprentice part 2
Tumblr media
I love both Apprentice episodes of course, but part 2 is the one that truly hits. From the epic soundtrack to the even more epic plot. Seeing Robin, forced to be Slade's apprentice, forced to fight his team for their greater good, struggle with his own inner conflict, the fear of being just like Slade. It's all just chef's kiss! Not to mention the absolute BADASS soundtrack. I think it's my favourite one from all of the Teen Titans episode. The episode is also a wonderful finale to Robin's internal conflict as he accepts the fact that he indeed is similiar to Slade, but there are still big things that make them different. The most important one is that unlike Slade, Robin has friends who always have his back. Haunted
Tumblr media
The only thing I'm grateful for when it comes to this episode is that I didn't watch it as a kid. If Aftershock part 2 scarred me back then, this episode would leave a little me, straight up DEAD Definitely the darkest episode of the Teen Titans in my opinion. The fact that we've seen Slade beating Robin up like a ragdoll through the entire episode, only to be revealed that Slade wasn't even there this whole time is just... straight up terrifing. This was the only time I believe where we could see Robin this close to death and the worst thing is that he was the one to almost cause it. I especially think that this episode portrays the mental health issues really well, especially the gashlighting that Robin receives from the other Titans. Let's just say, I kinda relate to it. Now that I think about it, I should make a seperate post for this episode, because there are some interesting things I want to say about it, but NOT NOW LOL Sisters
Tumblr media
RobStar is all I have to say. It was always my absolute comfort ship and I just LOVE to see Starfire and Robin interactions, how gentle and understanding Robin is for her, how he's always noticing that something is on her mind. It's literally so cute! Also seeing Starfire immediately start to struggle with her self-esteem when Blackfire visits is just heartbreaking. Not to mention it's heartbreaking to watch Starfire, this absolute sunshine, being treated so awfully by her sister. And she still kinda loves her... She deserves better :(
Fear Itself
Tumblr media
Absolutely love this episode! Like it's dark, but it has this fun vibe and it kinda reminds me of those old Scooby-Doo cartoons, where we have the whole group of friends, trying to solve some scary mystery. I also really like the twist that all the scary stuff that was happening, the monsters, Titans' disappearing: it was all Raven who didn't want to admit that she was simply scared.
Mad Mod
Tumblr media
This is simply just an extremely fun episode to me! I don't really have much to say here. Like, it's very lighthearted, creative and full of humor and it's one of those episodes I often put on whenever I'm bored or need to watch something during dinner. And also the villain is a British man, obsessed with England, like, what's there not to love.
Favourite non-core Titan? Like you mean what's my favourite Titan aside from the main, official five? If that's what you mean then honestly I have no idea- I never really cared that much about the other Titans and was always interested only in our main protagonists. If I had to pick then it would be someone from Titans East and maybe it would be Bumblebee, but it's more like eeeeh? Like I said, I watch the show only for the original group :'D
Tumblr media
I'm not sure about the comics, because... I don't read the comics (I only read one). But once I saw someone saying that they wished Teen Titans made episode with Batman so we could see Robin and Batman's dynamic. It could be interesting and I would totally watch it
Tumblr media
Thanks so much for your questions!! It was extremely fun to answer to them!! :D
