Comments:

This is one of the cases where fanon is correct - Jason DOES constantly make up nicknames for Dick!

Dick has a period while he's in Blüdhaven where a lot of his hallucinations involve Jason. A lot of the weirder names on this list come from one where he's hallucinating that he's in a sitcom white-picket-fence neighbourhood and Jason is his terrifyingly upbeat neighbour.

I don’t have enough of their interactions before Jason’s death to have proper thoughts about that period. I really need to read those issues.

ARCH ENEMY Shares Music Video For New Single 'Liars & Thieves'

Swedish/Canadian/American extreme metal titans ARCH ENEMY have unveiled their latest single, "Liars & Thieves", from their upcoming album "Blood Dynasty". The LP announcement and the start of the pre-order phase coincided with the beginning of ARCH ENEMY's European co-headline tour, "Rising From The North", with IN FLAMES on October 3 in Glasgow.

Throughout the tour, "Liars & Thieves" has already been performed live, as the band teased the release of the new single on stage. Now, with the release of the digital single, fans worldwide can finally experience the track.

"Liars & Thieves" delivers a powerful message of resilience and inner struggle, wrapped in fierce melodic death metal with intense lyrics about battling deception and enduring hardship.

"Our second single from 'Blood Dynasty' is here," says ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott. "'Liars & Thieves' is a fast, heavy-hitting track, with a melody that's been getting stuck in people's heads — don't say I didn't warn you! We've been playing it live recently, and it's been an absolute beast in the pit. Now, it's time to check out the studio cut!"

He continues: "The accompanying video has been captured out here on our ongoing European tour by director Jens De Vos, highlighting the passion and metal madness of these amazing shows where fans and band are one!"

"Liars & Thieves" was mixed by Jens Bogren and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios.

ARCH ENEMY's twelfth studio album, "Blood Dynasty" will arrive on March 28, 2025 via Century Media Records.

Amott previously stated about the effort: "This new album pushes the boundaries of what we've done before — it's everything you've come to expect from this band, and then some! We can't wait for you to hear it and feel the energy we've poured into every track. Welcome to the 'Blood Dynasty'!"

Next to the limited deluxe editions that feature two exclusive bonus tracks, fans can direct their attention to the limited liquid blood vinyl that is exclusively available in the band stores and limited to 666 copies.

"Dream Stealer" marked ARCH ENEMY's first new music since the release of the "Deceivers" album, which came out in August 2022.

"Dream Stealer" was mixed by Jens Bogren and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios. The video was directed and produced by Patric Ullaeus.

Two months ago, Amott told Pulp Magazine about "Dream Stealer" and ARCH ENEMY's plans for new music: "We've been staying busy for sure and are really focused on writing and recording new stuff in between the touring we're doing. I'm kind of always coming up with new musical and lyrical ideas though — I just keep going as it's what I enjoy doing anyway. Making music is a natural process, and it's pretty much a daily thing, so it can be hard to pinpoint exactly when everything was conceived. I do, however, actually remember that the initial seed for 'Dream Stealer' was written during a songwriting session I did with Daniel [Erlandsson, drums] in Los Angeles, California, two years ago, and then it's been rearranged and updated a lot till it reached its final state that you're now hearing."

Asked if it was a conscious decision to go back to the "classic ARCH ENEMY" direction and approach with "Dream Stealer", Amott said: "I've seen some seriously great feedback from the fans, and that's always very encouraging, of course. Personally, I don't know if I’d necessarily say 'Dream Stealer' is a throwback to the sound of the past, but I get what they mean — the song has the energy and speed that is very exciting and infectious. Maybe there is a hint of vintage ARCH ENEMY in there, and why not? I'm looking forward to playing it live on stage — I think it is going to be intense as hell."

ARCH ENEMY played its first concert with new guitarist Joey Concepcion on April 24 at Musinsa Garage in Seoul, South Korea. The show was part of ARCH ENEMY's 2024 Asian tour.

Last December, ARCH ENEMY announced that it had "amicably" parted ways with longtime guitarist Jeff Loomis.

Jeff, who was the main songwriter in his previous group, NEVERMORE, joined ARCH ENEMY in late 2014, but was not involved in the writing for the latter act's last two albums, 2017's "Will To Power" and the aforementioned "Deceivers".

I'll start with some of my other fave covers! Rabbits are my favorite animals, so this Zatanna one is perfection! This Dick & Roy one had to make the list for obvious reasons. I preordered this cover specifically, I needed it.

I'm a big fan of cover sets! These 2 different Titans ones are so good! (The Wally cover for Titans is still eluding me 😔)

I LOVE the middle Batgirls one (probably the top one of my collection). Jamal Campbell and Dan Mora are the GOATS of drawing Nightwing. I adore Campbell's composition, and Mora's Dick always looks like he's up to something.

For a run with great covers and good writing! Ram V's run of Detective Comics was amazing, and the man, the myth, the legend Kelley Jones, did a decent number of variants for it. Batman/Nightwing: Bloodborne is another favorite of mine! It is THE Dick&Bruce thesis. The art is either loved or loathed by everyone (I love it), but I like the grittiness.

Comics I've got, I'm super happy to have found! Batman Plus and Flash Plus! Both were unexpected finds at the newer collectibles shop in town, and I was practically jumping for joy when I found them! And Return of Donna Troy!!! My beautiful Donna, it took ages and many different stores to find the third one.

My collection is spread between a few boxes and my bookshelf. I keep my favorites out on display (I rotate them out from time to time). Top shelf is Titans > Nightwing collected editions > Nightwing (right to left chronologically). Second shelf is Batbooks (Tec, Batgirl, Robins, etc.) > not Batbooks (Flash, GA, WW, etc.). (I use empty ramen boxes for stability.)

Box 1 is my Bat box! I've got about 60% of Knightfall>Prodigal collected, this also has Dickbats era and Batman Year 3. Box 2 is my teams box, all of Outsiders 03 70% of Titans 99 and bits of JLA 96 & Justice League of America 06. Box 3 is mostly overflow but it does have my Donnas! If it's older than me it always goes in a box so I have to rearrange every now and then.

Top 5 Underappreciated Sonic levels, in your opinion

I was holding off on this one because being the weirdo that I am, there's a lot that come to mind, which is what happens when a fandom seems to only care about three or four locations in the whole series. So since I can do what I want with my lists, I'll instead list one per game. :] Not every game, just whichever ones that I can think of an example for.

Marble: the level design is blocky, but I dig the lava ruins aesthetic

Crystal Egg: really unique final zone, I'd love to see another stab at this concept

Hill Top: seems to get more love nowadays, but used to be widely considered the weakest Sonic 2 zone for being Emerald Hill 2: This Time It's Blue, I like it for being another unique take on a lava zone, very proto-Red Mountain

Quartz Quadrant: favourite zone (sorry, round) in CD, and not just cause it reminds me of @greenyvertekins' OC Verte Sinople, though that helps :>

Gigalopolis: an eye-catching city zone, even in 8-bit

Marble Garden: memorable Eggman fight with Tails, also has my favourite music in the Sonic 3 half next to Launch Base

Sandopolis: Act 2 might be a little slow, but I really like the Act 1 aesthetic, so there >:[

Marina Madness: level design is certified Knuckles Chaotix, but at least it looks pretty

Spring Stadium: I could really say any zone in 3D Blast because it's 3D Blast (Rusty Ruin <3, Volcano Valley <3), but I've really grown fond of the funhouse aesthetic here, shame about all the spears and spikes though :P

Radiant Emerald: glad they brought it back in Super Circuit, Double Dash, DS, Wii, this is a funny joke, pls laugh

Final Egg: picking one for SA1 is difficult because I think all of them are liked well enough, but Final Egg tends to get mentioned less frequently than other final levels in the series, and I won't stand for that

Pyramid Cave: probably the least discussed Sonic stage in SA2... well I like it (ghosts touching you inappropriately aside)

Ice Mountain: one of my favourite ice zones and Act 1 tracks

Techno Base: just as great as Music Plant

Egg Fleet: tends to get overshadowed by Final Fortress, I love how with this airship level in particular, the lack of clouds in the upper half of the skybox make it feel as though you're REALLY high up

Twinkle Snow: another favourite ice zone and music, even if the level design is one of the more... yeah

Digital Circuit: better cyberspace than the one in Frontiers (I would like to say Lost Impact for the atmosphere, but the tedium of the actual gameplay overwrites it for me unfortunately)

Mirage Road: underrated banger

Dark Desert: I know I keep mentioning desert levels lol, but a desert town during an eclipse is very striking

Aquatic Base: level itself is certified '06, but the music is S-tier and it paves the way for the greatest Eggman defeated cutscene in all of fiction

Night Palace: see Crystal Egg

Pirates' Island: interesting final zone, also leads up to TE DAVY JOOONES WITH YE

Aquatic Capital: includes Tempest Waterway as well

Jungle Joyride: despite the framerate's spirited efforts to drag it down

Misty Lake: I don't care too much for most of the levels in Black Knight, but Not Kingdom Valley looks nice

Sylvania Castle: aesthetically at least, it's a cool take on an Aquatic Ruin-type area

Dolphin Resort: cool aquarium/shopping mall combo, just a shame it was trapped in Free Riders

Aquarium Park: this has always been my favourite zone in Colours... between this and Dolphin Resort, clearly I enjoy me some underwater tubes

Titanic Monarch: dark and colorful simultaneously, and I don't struggle with it as much as most fans seem to

Mortar Canyon: its biggest crime is how short it is, cause then I can't hear the music :(

Egg Fortress: it might start off as a standard Not Death Egg, but I love the reverse gimmick in Act 2, and I actually like the final boss' brutality because it's Eggman punishing fans for portraying him as a dad ack ack ack ack ack

Nanaba & Hansi Zoe

That day, a cold rain had been falling continuously since morning.

When even a Scout becomes a veteran the amount of paperwork to do increases. Stacks of paper before her eyes, Nanaba stifled a sigh.

Erwin and Micke, they're handling more work than this. I need to get it together.

Nanaba was a veteran soldier who had survived expeditions outside of the walls for more than 5 years.

On the other side of the glass, fogged up from the temperature difference with the outside air cold with the rain, Nanaba recognized the staggering of a familiar figure, and stood up in surprise.

“....Hansi?!”

“‘Taking a walk to clear your mind’, how can you say that when you don’t even have any rain gear, really?”

“I told you, the reactions of the specimens were weak today, so… They were so cute, though…”

Nanaba had caught Hansi wandering outside who, rather than having gone on what you’d call a walk, looked like a corpse which had crawled out of its grave. She was drying off their body which was in such a state.

Normally Nanaba wasn’t in the position to take care of others to this extent, but there was a closeness between them as same veteran soldiers. By just going outside of the walls and returning alive, a certain bond is born between soldiers.

“Goodness, you’re at least a section commander, aren’t you? Getting wet in the rain and staggering around, it sets a bad example.”

“A… section commander… That’s right, I’m currently acting as a section commander.”

Nanaba removed the cloth she had been drying Hansi's head with, and Hansi, whose hair had become even more disheveled than usual, had a defeated expression on their face.

“Awfully sentimental, aren’t you?”

“Ah… a little.”

Hansi returned the cloth that they had been drying their wet body with to Nanaba, and walked over to the window.

“Rising in rank in the Survey Corps, isn’t that just surviving for a long time?”

“That’s… true.”

Finding it difficult to guess what Hansi meant, Nanaba furrowed her brows. 

Hansi had turned away from her, and was following the water droplets flowing down the outside of the window with their eyes. 

“In other words, it’s upon the deaths of our many comrades that we have these positions. Being a section commander… sometimes, I’ve thought that kind of thing.”

“...Yes.”

The water droplets flowing down the glass almost looked like tears flowing down Hansi's unseen expression, hidden behind their glasses, and Nanaba straightened up.

“That’s true. But… for that reason, us veterans have things that we need to do.”

“Huh?”

“For the sake of our comrades who died too… the veterans are the ones who need to pull ourselves together, and to lead the younger soldiers. At the very least, so that the number of senseless deaths doesn’t increase.”

Nanaba gathered her resolve, and struck Hansi on the back.

“So, Hansi, no matter how far we are inside the walls, you shouldn’t let others see you in a pitiful state. You’ll worry the soldiers of the fourth section, and other soldiers will think of you strangely.”

“...You're right.”

Hansi removed their glasses and wiped them with a shirtsleeve. They put them back on, and when they turned back around their eyes were full of their usual inquisitive spirit. 

“Maybe I was a little too careless, well, I’m going right back to my research. Data on titans when it’s raining, that’s really important information!”

“Ah! At least put on rain gear!!"

Whether Hansi was listening to Nanaba’s words or not, they rushed out of the room, and were running off down to the far end of the corridor. 

Standing on the many dead, is that the veterans’ position?

Closing the door, Nanaba thought over Hansi’s words. 

I need… to get myself together too. Those who passed, and my own surviving life, to prove that they weren’t for nothing.

Among the sound of the incessant rain hitting the roof and window, Nanaba nodded slightly, and returned to her work.
