6882. Since Starfire and Raven didn’t spend their childhoods on Earth, they tend to be clueless to certain pop culture references.

Titan Comics crossover miniseries The Lost Dimension takes an issue to step away from the main, NuWho centric plotline for an issue of transforming Krotons and Ogron Starfleet and personally, I think the only problem is it’s not the series’ main plot.

Ok rereading the titans peacemaker appearance because I skimmed it last night and just got upset
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do like this being literally the first thing he does
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heres the shit I hate. Everything else about this interaction is honestly fine and standard Peacemaker shit this just annoys the hell out of me. He would not fucking say that and theres no reason to do this besides like weird fantasy bigotry shit. I didnt include all the panels of everyone being shocked and horrified but yeah this is just Peacemaker saying dumb bullshit and everyone being like Wow I Cant Believe He Just Said That. This Guys A Monster
Also, Peacemaker is going to be showing up in like 3 different series right now and it looks like hes doing this exact same thing in all of them. Being a angry government boy and working with Amanda Waller. His green arrow appearance hasnt happened yet so Im prepared to admit I was wrong but its looking like hes just Like This Right Now and nobodys interested in him not being like this. It feels like DC’s putting him in everything because of the show but nobody wants to use him. Also Im so fucking mad tom taylor might write more of him.

When they prioritize Penguin as an ongoing instead of the other books you actually want to read and make those miniseries.

So I’m doing a Google News search on older Jenna Coleman articles (I’ve been having fun tracking down stories I haven’t seen before as I wasn’t a Jenna fan, and indeed had never heard of her, when many of these came out). In the process it flags this (not very positive tbh) review from the Boston Herald about her 2012 Titanic miniseries. It also flagged an unrelated story and so I ended up with this oddly worded result. For a second I wondered if Jenna had a new show happening!

So we have now surpassed the 96 hour "best case scenario" amount of oxygen point (if they had been alive and didnt just implode, they arent alive anymore), and I just keep thinking everything about this story, and really the story ABOUT the story, is fascinating.
Like, the situation itself has that incredible blend of tragedy voyeurism and schadenfreude that adds a level of absurdity. (The Logitech controller, the camping world lights, the fact that they probably didn't have their shoes). The way this story touches on issues of deregulation and tragedy tourism and billionaire hubris and a condemnation of wreckless start up mindsets. How much money has been spent looking for them, how much the tickets cost - the extreme absurdity of all of it.
But also the WAY this story has been covered. I keep seeing this compared to the horrific disaster in the Mediterranean this week which killed over 500 refugees and the disparity in the coverage and interest. And yeah, I think the issue is that the disaster in the Mediterranean is transparently horrific- it is a terrible tragedy, the result of systemic and complex geopolitical issues that are complex. So many people, and the weight of that is just so big. It's not funny. It's just awful.
The Ocean Gate Titan thing? It's a simple narrative that was obviously avoidable. It feels like a movie with REALLY obvious themes. It's been covered like a movie. It's been dragged out and every single possible update, the viral video of the tour of the sub, the possible noises detected by sonar, the whole side story about the billionaire step son going to the Blink 182 concert- the cast is so small and the level of abstraction away from normal people and their lives? Makes it feel completely unreal and so it can be consumed like the newest HBO miniseries.
Even now, we are getting updates on how they could stretch the oxygen out longer- like a fan theory prediction of the next episode. Like a headcanon for the season finale. (Oh God, do you think AO3 has fics yet?) Tiktokers making videos about plot holes (why not attach a tether to it?). Discourse over whether it's problematic to say one thing or another about it.
It reminds me of how it felt when the Ever Given got stuck in the Suez Canal, but with the added "oh my god, the OCEAN ate the rich" and Logitech Playstation controller jokes.
I'd put money on implosion. These men have been dead since Sunday. It's likely that we won't actually know for a long time though, if ever. But the way this story was covered is worth contemplating.

Hi! Just curious, what are your favorite comic runs? I've finished the comics on my current to-read list so I love hearing what other people like!
hello! as always i’m sure i’m forgetting plenty of stuff but these are some of my favs, both completed and ongoing series.
completed:
batman: the knight (2022)
Tumblr media
miniseries, 10 issues total, so it’s extremely readable and really satisfying in a short amount of time! i like zdarsky’s bruce a lot (i’ve also enjoyed his work on the current batman run) and carmine di giandomenico’s art is fantastic. also, it’s the ghost-maker origin story and bruce & khoa somehow get divorced at least twice before the story’s over. love that for them.
superman: american alien (2015)
Tumblr media
anthology collection about clark kent through the years, a really great read for superman—digging into clark’s character rather than focusing on external plot!—with some great cameos too (like young adult clark getting mistaken for some rich guy named bruce wayne at a yacht party, or reporter clark running into pre-robin dick grayson).
future state (2021) batman: dark detective
Tumblr media
i am not immune to dan mora’s bruce wayne, especially when he is skrunkly and beat up the whole time.
batman: urban legends (2021)
Tumblr media
an anthology so you can kind of pick up/put down as you like! these are a good read if you don’t want to be tracking huge overarching plotlines for a bit. the first few issues have a great jason series too.
ongoing series aka my current pulls at the comic shop:
spirit world (2023)
Tumblr media
this one is new and is SO fun and compelling; i love xanthe already, and the assorted cast (including constantine and cass!) and new side characters (bowen my beloved, i’d die for you if you weren’t already dead) are delightful. one of those comics where i’m genuinely interested in the plot too and not just reading for my favs. alyssa wong is doing some really cool things with this concept/cast and i hope they have a chance to do way more in this world.
batman/superman world’s finest (2022)
Tumblr media
again, i am not immune to dan mora, or the delightful superbat of it all. (and robin!dick! i love him.) i also started reading waid’s teen titans spin-off that takes place in this same era and there are only a few issues out so far but i’m having a great time.
city boy (2023)
Tumblr media
i am OBSESSED with this concept (sentient cities! sharp-edged/lonely character figuring out his connection to them!) and the writing is super fun so far. also the intro comic (free on kindle/elsewhere; also has a free spirit world issue) has a great nightwing run-in.
i’m also subscribed to nightwing, superboy: the man of tomorrow, action comics (anything with kon crumbs…), and dark knights of steel (listen…i am still holding out hope for more royal court spy!tim crumbs), and i don’t know much about shazam yet but i’m giving the new series a try too.

"a straight Riddler is like... not a total oxymoron but it's not a good look" is it the Tom King one or would you say his Riddlers (OBD or TWoJaR, your choice) are queer too?
now at risk of going full Riddler scholar you're forgetting one of Tom King's OTHER shitty Riddlers, the one from the 2022 miniseries Killing Time. who is pretty fucking gay, about Batman for the record.
Tumblr media
he and Selina have kind of a Ryan and Sharpay Evans schtick going on that's always ALMOST fun until one of them talks too long and the King dialogue ruins it again.
One Bad Day Riddler is like... a frigid evil old queen to me. he's definitely tried to fuck sex workers who remind him of his dead sex worker mom specifically so he can treat them badly but it's never worked For Some Reason he can't stay hard so then he just gets even more pissed. titanic levels of repression fitting his inexplicable pseudo-British schoolboy upbringing. would be so much more chill if he had ever even once had a messy hookup with a guy.
I haven't read TWOJAR (although I fear I will have to cross the bridge eventually) but to me he's part of a more contemporary Riddler trend where Eddie's like. he's still bisexual but he also got redpilled by 4chan incels and he's too busy being a weird misogynist whining about how women won't fuck him to notice that he's also into dudes. like whenever he gets hard thinking about Batman he assumes it's just because Batman is a sigma chad and convinces himself that it's totally normal for straight men to jack off thinking about men they assume are more sexually successful than they are.
if anyone ever has the opportunity to make Tom King read this please do, I think it might kill him and I want to be able to take credit for that.

Transformers #13!!!
Yeah, Starscream ain't dead yet.
It's a nice look into his past and a rare look at how he and Skyfire got along before the war, during the time he goes going by Ulchtar (development lore, this was one of the names Budiansky and company were brainstorming before landing on Starscream).
Also, I love the size difference between Omega Supreme and regular bots! (Also also, I love how the artists are drawing the big starry expanse of space in Transformers and Void Rivals!)
Tumblr media
A glimpse of a Starscream smile and KUP!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Oh yeah! Blue eyed Starscream!
Tumblr media
It's pretty interesting because, despite his more soft disposition in the beginning, he has always had the desire to be looked at, to be noticed.
AhahahaAHAHAHA!! 😭😭😭😭 I don't need those feelings! Man, this being a flashback really makes this hit you in the face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is perhaps one of the better origin stories for "Starscream" that I've seen, fanon or canon. It also hints at how the average bot sees themselves in comparison with the titans of Cybertron.
Genvo wasn't here for a long time... Nor a good time, considering what happens in the story.
Tumblr media
This tragedy really hits into the general themes of this continuity how the casualties of war have changed them all, for better or worse.
Tumblr media
And here we are, bringing it all back in a circle. If y'all remember Starscream clapping the fighter jet and a certain Duke escaping? Well, for the TF fans who didn't read the Duke miniseries, Duke ended up assuming that Destro, a war profiteer/weapons manufacturer, created Starscream. He, of course, didn't and Duke worked out a bit of catharsis on Destro's robot soldiers. The name of Destro's company?
MARZ.
For the fans who don't want to have to read GI Joe, I don't think that DWJ will involve them too heavily. Joshua Williamson who has been leading the Joe story has said in an interview that DWJ isn't a Joe afficionado with a ton of knowledge of Joe lore.
Tumblr media
And Starscream joins the Decepticons, the loss of Genvo changing him forever.
This is an interesting take on Megatron's gun alt mode, clearly giving a nod to Megatron occasionally being a tank.
Okay, so this does run pretty quick. The fast pace is one of the more credible notes regarding this story. However, I will say that it's refreshing to not get bogged down or too distracted by a flashback that only explains a character's drive and doesn't do much to keep the story moving forward.
Can't wait for next month!

so i was js scrolling thru ur page and i wanted to know if you have any good starter comics abt the superfam ?
oh do i have some recs for you, my friend.
i’ve already answered for kara here and made a jon reading guide here.
now onto my boy clark:
superman: birthright - it’s an origin story. great way to get introduced to the superman universe;
superman: the secret years - it’s a more old comics, but still great. revolves around clark’s college years;
superman: kryptonite - clark’s first encounter with kryptonite;
action comics by greg pak - it’s during the new 52 era. you can skip the unnecessary crossovers and just read his individual arcs - “action comics (2011) #25 - 29, 35 - 40”);
superman: man of tomorrow - hero of metropolis - low stakes. slice of life. great vibes. great way to get introduced to a few superman villains;
superman by kurt busiek and geoff johns. reading guide here;
the warworld saga by phillip kennedy johnson. my favourite superman story ever;
superman smashes the klan. it’s a great story.
if you want to read superman comics chronologically, here you can find great starting points.
it’s a bit more complicated with lois because she is a second main character for a lot of clark’s stories, but doesn’t have her own titles very often (which is a shame because she’s great!). you’d get a pretty good idea of who she is from the superman recs, but during 2019, greg rucka wrote a comic with her as the main character - “lois lane (2019)” so i’d recommend checking that out. you can also check “supermans’s pal jimmy olsen (2019)” as well. it doesn’t have lois, but it has jimmy and he’s pretty cool.
note: both kon-el and john henry irons debuted during “reign of the superman” storyline.
as for kon, i haven’t read much of his comics, but he had a solo in the 90s and he’s a prominent member of the young justice comics so i’d recommend checking “superboy (1994)” and “young justice (1998)”. he also had a mini recently - “superboy: the man of tomorrow”.
as for john and nat, john also had an ongoing in the 90s - “steel (1994)”. nat was a main character during “52”. not sure if i’d recommend her story in that one though. but you can check it out and see if you like it. after that, she was in “infinity inc. (2007)” which is a follow up to her 52 storyline and again, not sure how much i recommend it. as far as i know, nat was also in the titans for a bit - “titans (2016) #23 - 36”. i’m yet to read it though so i’m not sure if it’s good. recently, there was a miniseries called “steelworks (2023)” and it was really good. both john and nat are main characters.
lana, same as lois, unfortunately doesn’t have that many solos. she was great during greg pak’s action comics run. and she had a solo during rebirth - “superwoman (2016)” that heavily featured john henry as well.
kenan debuted during the rebirth era and had a solo - “new super-man (2016)” and that’s pretty much it. he also had a two-part back up story in action comics #1058 - 1059 that explained how he joined the family.
as for lois and clark’s kids (that aren’t jon), you’ll find out more about chris during kurt busiek and geoff johns’ era and more about otho and osul during the warworld saga.
that’s all i’ve got. there are more superfamily members, but those are the once i feel confident giving recs for.
