Name: Neo Bowser City (aka Koopa City in PAL regions)

Debut: Mario Kart 7

Do you ever think of all the weird locations we only ever see in Mario Kart games? Despite being the biggest of all of Mario's spin-off franchises, when you really get down to it, remarkably few Mario Kart courses are actually based on established Mario locations!

It's not none, there's the occasional Donut Plains and Tick-Tock Clock and Airship Fortress, but most of the courses are these weird one-off locations we never see outside the context of that specific racetrack.

But have you ever taken a moment to step back and like, think of the Lore Implications of some of these places?

Like okay! Bowser just owns this whole dang cyberpunk city and we only ever see it in the context of Kart Racing! How messed up is that?!

One day Mario and Friends were looking for new places to race, and Bowser must have said something like "Gwah-hah-hah! I bet you puny punks could NEVER beat me in a race in my cyberpunk metropolis!" and right then and there it was established that Bowser owns a cyberpunk metropolis. Neo Bowser City is a city that exists in the Super Mario World and aside from returning in other Mario Kart games, it hasn't been acknowledged before or since.

Neo Bowser City first appeared in Mario Kart 7, as the third course in the Star Cup. Despite its flashy visuals, it actually doesn't really have a whole lot going on. It's a difficult track with some tight turns made more difficult by the rain making things more slippery, but besides that it doesn't really have any of the Wacky Obstacles that define so many Mario Kart courses.

Then it returned in Mario Kart 8 looking more gorgeous than ever! The bright colors really pop out, and the whole track is just oozing with detail that really emphasizes the scale of this city!

But like, the emphasized scale really only further raises the question of where this exists in the Mario World. Clearly, the fact that Bowser is plastered all over the billboards and the fact it's named "Neo Bowser City" helps us deduce that this city probably belongs to Bowser. Is this located in Bowser's Kingdom? Just how big is Bowser's Kingdom? And why does he own so many separate castles?

Maybe Neo Bowser City exists in the future? Is this a bad timeline? I mean, Mario Kart is allowed to have time-travel shenanigans. There's a Splatoon battle arena and that exists thousands of years in the future so sure, dust off Mario's Time Machine and head to the bad future where Bowser wins. Should've pressed that New Super Mario Bros. big yellow P-Switch!

I asked my friend Mod Chikako for their input and their theory is that Neo Bowser City isn't the future of Mario's world, but of our world. Clearly Bowser just couldn't take Wreck-It-Ralph losing the Oscar vote!

But in that case I guess it's a cooler cyberpunk future than the one we're living in right now. Corporate monopolies that run mass-surveillance with little government intervention due to their extreme wealth giving them extensive political power? No thank you! Neo Bowser City has bright neon colors, and flying cars! If I'm going to live in a dystopia, I want it to be a fun one. The only advertisements I want to see plastered everywhere are ones advertising Bowser!

Boo! That's the bad guy! Thumbs down!

The course returns again in that pitiful mobile game with another redesign, this time letting us see his Coney Island Disco Palace off in the distance. Does Bowser live in his Neo City? Is this worldbuilding we've been missing out on for decades, finally answered by a kart racer? Is this the capital city of Bowser's Kingdom? Am I once again falling victim to my perpetual hubris of overthinking the Mario franchise?

Really, I can't offer too much in terms of wacky fan theories, because I'm still thinking about this location existing in the first place. I'd love to know the Lore and worldbuilding here, but I guess the nature of Mario's canon is that it doesn't need to be over-analyzed. Bowser simply owns a cyberpunk metropolis, we'll only ever see it in the context of kart racing, and maybe that's okay.

Of course, this post wouldn't be complete if I didn't mention Dinohattan from the 1993 Super Mario Bros. Movie, which we've barely talked about on this blog somehow. You see, when the meteor hit, some of the dinosaurs escaped into a parallel timeline where they then evolved into humans, and then they built Dinohattan instead of Manhattan. Get it? Yeah, that movie is all sorts of bonkers. I wouldn't say it's very good, but I kinda love it. I'd recommend checking it out, if only to see a vastly different take on Mario than you'd be used to.

Anyway I bring this up because it's a completely separate instance of a version of Bowser building a large cyberpunk metropolis, and it actually predates Neo Bowser City! Do you think they could be connected? Are Dinohattan and Neo Bowser City one and the same...?

If we couldn't have Carry On My Wayward Son, what song would you pick for the sequel?

This was hanging out on one of the earlier pages of my drafts, waiting for a Eureka moment that will never come. (I'm sorry. I'm not the greatest with music.)

I mean, assuming Led Zeppelin is too expensive...

I've gravitated to Genesis's Land of Confusion before for a sequel, but not sure the refrain is high-energy enough. But it's got a lot of really cool themes for what I think a sequel would/should touch on.

This is a newer song that has a nice vibe: Lift Your Head Weary Sinner (Chains), but it's slow. (I'd use it tongue-in-cheek for a Chuck won plot situation). It's got some nifty transitions I just think would be so neat for the kind of montages that Shaving People Punting Things used to put out on occasion. (Plus, it's got a bit of the SPNwin vibe, which I like.)

Any other ideas, y'all?

1. Ahuska and Thirteen! I don't even know how we got here honestly, but between the duo getting murder-happy on the Star Fortresses, and a sudden pile of shows which are so them, I CANNOT get enough. They're not even SUPPOSED to be together, 13 is MARRIED NOW jfc, and Ahuska is SUPPOSED to be hopelessly smitten by her fox, but ... oops I guess. :') They're terrible. They're terrible for each other. It's a train wreck in slow motion and they're still running along it holding hands. Ahuska dear, stop being attracted to the stupidly hot enemy agent who played a role in your horrible traumatic imprisonment. He bought you steak dinner ONCE.

2. Thirteen/Five/Crow + Ulfran. There's no toxic power imbalance if that's your kink, is there? 8) Throw in some wholesome and genuine love and kindness, spice it up with the occasional kinky patron Sith, and you have the perfect Imperial agent romance recipe. 13, 5, and Crow are married ... with bonus content. I LOVE how this crazy relationship mess just organically arose as a side plot to the main plot, but OOPS it's 13 unintentionally driving everyone involved to upend their entire lives. He dragged Crow to the Empire, pulled Ulfran to the Dark Side, and forced Five to actually care about something other than himself.

3. Blakk and all his romances! Ofc he's still ... supposedly ... Ahuska's main flame. <_<;;; But anyway, he's also been responsible for years of favorite ships and RPs which I still absolutely LOVE and haven't forgotten.

First Ship

I've been trying to remember if I CARED about shipping as a kid, and whether I appreciated Gambit/Rogue, or whether it was really all just about Gambit. 😂 Either way, in my early fanfiction days, I was a fan of the FF7 Zack Fair/Angeal/Genesis/Sephiroth/Cloud Strife in various combinations. Depending.

First ship I ever actually WROTE was Blakk/Saare, a Sith from my agent's canon timeline.

02 March 3309 Holiacan, Fortress Yarrow

Received a message from the Alioth Independents inviting me to visit them in their home system, as a reward for having helped around and sold interesting data. Still haven’t visited but I’m adding this to my list of places to visit.

03 March 3309 BD+74 526 B 1 c

Picked up a shipwreck signal and decided to investigate. Made a careful approach to make sure the wreck wasn’t guarded. The COVAS informed me that my ship was being scanned, but my radar was empty. I still don’t know what that was about. Continued my approach. Still no one, but lots of strange sounds, probably the wind blowing through cracks in the rusty hull, but there was also something that sounded... Thargoid-like? I did notice a green caustic cloud, which was not a good sign. Landed a little way away and deployed the rover. The cloud was hiding another of those Thargoid sensor fragments. I picked up a sample, for science. There wasn’t a lot more to salvage from the wreck. I wonder if the ship got attacked by the Thargoids, a long time ago. Or maybe they were transporting that sensor fragment and it burnt through the hull and caused the crash? I couldn’t find any black box I could retrieve to understand what happened..

05 March 3309 Eta Cassiopeiae, Angus Manwaring starport

Since my travels have taken me through a few systems with ammonia worlds, and since there was a request for data, I stopped by Eta Cassiopeiae to sell what I had. It’s not much, but exploring, scanning, and mapping worlds is what I do, so if there is any way that can help against the Thargoids, then I’m all for it.

06 March 3309 Iota Persei

Found a ringed water world. I’m fascinated by ringed planets, especially when they are more uncommon types -- Earth-likes, water worlds, or bodies I can land on.

Shibboleth Interesting exploration of a moon (body 3 c) and submoon (body 3 c a). Looked so big in the sky! Always very impressive. Loved the sunset on that submoon too, I had landed just on the edge between night and day.

17 March 3309 Ngaruayanka

Got a message from Mr Tanner of Aegis about finding Seo Jinn-Ae. Went to Ngaruayanka to see if I could find any clues about where she went and what happened to her. I followed the track across several systems but without any real answers to offer. Just the remains of a blown up ship in Ankaa.

Alnair Lots of bright stars in this system. My eyes are starting to hurt from staring at all those massive balls of burning gas. Decided to get myself some sunglasses, we’ll see if that helps.

53 Aquarii Biiiig C-type star. Very pink. It’s not even the main star of that system, but it’s so massive compared to the other two that this is where I dropped.

22 March 3309 Wyrd, Black Hide settlement

Visited a grumpy engineer who worked on my ship’s power plant. He did a good job, and even put in a recommendation to other engineers, which was quite nice of him. One of them messaged me later to let me know I could come visit her whenever, but she is all the way in Colonia, so this might take a while.

Docked at Bhabha Terminal to sell some data. Soon after, I received a message congratulating me on my promotion to Elite Explorer. Went to celebrate at the bar, before going back to my freshly-repainted ship to think about what this achievement means and the journey so far.

Having received an invitation to visit this system after my promotion, I spent a good while exploring all the tourist beacons and learning more about the Pilots Federation.

Picked up a distress call while I was cruising in the system, so I dropped on it to see what was going on. There was a trader by the name of Ba Tholemu, stranded in his Type-7 Transporter, having run out of fuel. He wasn’t even that far from the main star, but I suppose he didn’t have a fuel scoop on his ship, so I helped him and he went on his merry way.

Dnd Cosmology: Elemental Plane of Water

Planar Portal Color: Green

The Plane of Water is an endless sea called the Sea of Worlds dotted with atolls and islands that rise up from enormous coral reefs that seem to stretch forever into the depths. The storms that move across the sea sometimes create temporary portals to the Material Plane and draw ships into the Plane of Water. Surviving vessels from countless worlds and navies play these waters with little hope of ever returning home.

A warm sun arcs across the sky of the Plane of Water seeming to rise and set from within the water at the horizon. Several times a day the sky clouds over and releases a deluge of rain often accompanied by spectacular shows of lightning before clearing up again. At night a glittering array of stars and auroras bedecks the sky.

The weather on the plane is a lesson in extremes. If the sea isn't calm it is battered by storms. On rare occasions a tremor in the planar firmament sends a rogue wave sweeping across the plane swamping entire islands and driving ships down to the reefs.

Any lands that rises above the surface of the sea is hotly contested by the few air breathers that live on the plane. Fleets of rafts and ships lashed together serve as solid ground where nothing else is available although most natives of the plane never break the surface of the sea and thus ignore these habitations.

Below are the most important features of the plane:

Citadel of 10,000 Pearls: The nominal emperor of the Marids dwells here an opulent palace made of coral and studded with pearls. The is the glittering centerpiece of the Sea of Light. Visitors are welcome to ask favors of the emperor whose mood is as changeable as the sea.

Darkened Depths: The deeper extents of the plane where no sunlight reaches are the Darkened Depths. Horrid creatures dwell here and the absolute cold and crushing pressure mean a swift end to creatures accustomed to the surface or the Sea of Light. Krakens and other mighty leviathans claim this realm.

Isle of Dread: One of the Few island on the plane is the Isle of Dread which is connected to the Material Plane by means of a storm that regularly sweeps over the island. Ships from different worlds of the Material Plane end up wrecked on the rocks and reefs around the island and settlements across the island are populated by the descendent of sailors who never found a way home. Theoretically travelers who understand the workings of the storm could use it to travel to a desired Material Plane world.

Sea of Ice: Bordering the Para Elemental Plane of Ice is the Sea of Ice. The frigid water is choked with icebergs and sheet ice which are inhabited by cold loving creatures from the Plane of Ice. Drifting icebergs can carry these creatures farther into the Plane of Water to threaten ships and islands in warmer seas.

Sea of Light: Life flourishes in the sunlit waters of the Sea of Light located in the upper reaches of the Sea of Worlds. Aquatic peoples craft castles and fortresses in the coral reefs here.

Silt Flats: The region of the Plane of Water nearest to the Para elemental Plane of Ooze is called the Silt Flats. The water is thick with soil and sludge turning into muddy ground before giving way to the great swamp that is the Para elemental plane.

Elemental Plane of Water Adventure Ideas: The nature of water is to flow not like the gusting wind or the leaping flame but smoothly and steadily . It is the rhythm of the tide the nectar of life the bitter tears of mourning and the balm of sympathy and healing. Given time it can erode all in its path.

Elemental Evil emphasizes the erosive power of Water as well as the destruction wrought by surging tides deadly maelstroms and raging torrents. Cultists of Evil Water believe the seas and deep waters are eager to reclaim the water trapped in the bodies of living creatures and think it's their duty to return others to the primal waters by drowning them or shedding their blood.

Top Ten Transformer Cities

I’m back on my bullshit, by not only doing a totally unnecessary continuation of last week’s list – bringing you the most disappointing sequel since every single Terminator movie released after 1991 – but also once more wanging on about bloody Transformers again.

Yes, after talking generically about fictional cities last week – ranking both Gotham and Metropolis as best in show, uniting the entire DC universe as the bestest at making make-believe towns and that – I’m now doubling down by picking one particular fictional universe (well, I guess, one particular franchise that’s full of broadly-similar but still somewhat different universes in a vast multiverse of toys what turn into stuff), and ranking the greatest cities therein. And this is especially fun with Transformers because a lot of their cities actually turn into stuff!

So there’s going to be two strings to this bow, really: the cities that are also people – your “Titans”, your Metroplex and Trypticon and the like – and then the cities that are just cities. These latter townships – all places on Cybertron, as it happens – are interesting because of their place in fiction. They could be prominent cities, the Transformers equivalent of Metropolis; or they could be, say, the birthplace of the War on Cybertron, or where the dead rose, or the place that gave its name to the leader of the Decepticon Justice Department.

And that’s all there is to it! Ten cities from the various wings of the Transformers franchise, ranked in order of how cool I think they are.  

Autobot City: the Earth-based city that’s the star of 1986’s classic The Transformers: The Movie, it’s a beautiful piece of metallic engineering in a luxurious rocky setting, featuring cascading waterfalls and attractive foliage. Can be converted – with some difficulty – into a battle fortress with large guns, missiles, and multiple blast shields. Probably not quite as attractive in 2005 as it was in 2004.

Metroplex: now, is Metroplex actually Autobot City? Or does he sleep under it? Is he a part of it? Regardless, Metroplex is a city – the first real city-bot – but he’s also a person. This was a fantastic conceit in 1986, and the toy really did feel incredibly cool as both a base/battle station and as a frickin’ huge toy robot. The character’s stoicism, selflessness, and humbleness is a great counterpoint to his huge badassery too.

Trypticon: the Autobots have a bloke to be their city; so the Decepticons have a monster. Whilst Metroplex might have the “platonic ideal of robot city” conceit all sewed up, what could be as cool – cooler, even? A giant dinosaur. Yeah, he’s had some cool characterisations over the years; but basically, just being a kaiju-sized robot T-Rex is more than enough. Also: his toy could walk.

Iacon: the capital city of Cybertron (most of the time, I think), it’s one of the most-seen locations on the planet. It’s one of the only places that seems to have a distinct look. It’s got large domed buildings and several towers, and usually is home to important functions of state or Cybertronian culture. One of the few places that really does appear frequently across multiple versions of the franchise, and as such is often wrecked, too.

Scorponok: back to the city-bots, and if you can’t have a chuffing huge dinosaur, how about a frankly massive scorpion? Scorponok – and we’ll come back to this point I believe – occupies a funny place as he’s either a big city-sized person or he’s just an above-average Transformer with claws. As a city, he’s got a cool colour scheme and – depending on continuity – was rebuilt out of a secret, evil, underground Nebulon city. As a character, especially in the old Marvel G1, he was fantastic, a nuanced and multifaceted bad guy with doubts and morals. But let’s not take away: city with claws.

Polyhex: basically – traditionally – the Decepticon version of Iacon, it may lack the various elegiac governmental institutions and pretty architecture, but it does boast a sinister fortress called Darkmount, a Cybertronian slum called the Dead End, and – wonder of wonders – the smelting pools, home to one of the most tragic events in the original Marvel comic.

Tarn: I’m not really sure what Tarn is like; how pretty it is, how big, how many Starbucks. But it’s notable – historical – because it’s traditionally where Megatron is from. As such, it often has negative connotations; there’s more than one continuity where it’s destroyed or falls immediately to the Decepticons. It also gave its name to Tarn, the leader of the terrifying Decepticon Justice Division.

Kalis: again, this is a city more notable because of an event. Underneath Kalis, in one continuity at least, a renegade Autobot built a giant reactor, and a signal device that controlled the bodies of dead Transformers. That’s right – the dead walk the streets of Kalis.

Kaon: Kaon is usually a pretty bad town. In some continuities, it basically takes the place of Polyhex as the “Decepticon city”; often it’s still one of – if not the – first city to fall to Megatron. It’s the home of the (illegal?) gladiatorial games where Megatron himself, former miner, rose to power. Like Tarn, it gave its name to a member of the DJD: Kaon the Decepticon turns into, get this, an electric chair.

Fortress Maximus: ah, here we are again: is he a city, or is he a bloke? Fortress Maximus, in most Transformers fiction, is presented – like his Headmaster leader/city counterpart Scorponok – as being basically big and beefy for a bot, but not a base. And I love his character; whether it’s the war-weary pacifist of old Marvel, or the gung-ho cop with PTSD in the IDW comics. However, as a base, he’s great; massive (held the record for the biggest TF toy of all time for over twenty years!), cool-looking, complicated, with my favourite ever gimmick: his head turns into a robot whose head turns into a robot (well, a human). You can’t get better than that. Apart from maybe nine other cities.

Ylang, a yellow sun on a distant shoal of the immersea. When the Star Imperium collapsed Ylang was spared the worst depredations, due to distance. It did not escape unscathed.

Oort-wards in order, the Ylang system is:

+ Verre, an agni-class world, molten seas. + Tesh, a bhumi-class world, on the warmer end. ++ Belt of Tesh, ice, rock, satellite debris. +++ Tesh Exchange, a moon-sized astropolis. + Ylang's End, a belt of wrecked starships. ++ Ylang's Gate, an immersea teleportal, dead. + Rake, a bhumi-class world, on the colder end. + Irrusine, a vata-class gas giant, blue-faced. ++ Irrusine Siphon, a moon-sized astrofactory. + Pravine, a vata-class gas giant, red-faced. ++ Pravine's Eye, an immersea tearpoint, buoys. + Gak-Gak, an asthi-class world, atmosphere-less.

VERRE an agni-class world, molten seas.

Genemod-adaptation to Verre's fury give its children a silver pallor. They are the a martial people, the Ve; for generations they were gripped by blood-feuds, by warlordism.

Then the god-heroine Ayesha crushed the great houses, crashed their orbiting cruisers. It was Ayesha who forged a new Ve upon the Stone of Ecumen, and raised their choired voice; it was Ayesha who called on Rake and Tesh for union.

Following Ayesha's example, every Ve child puts a hand over their heart and swears to defend universal communism.

The Stones are fortress-cities with walls of mile-high obsidian; these shelter creches and gardens and markets from the planet's heat---most of the planet's heat. Who are the Ve, if not a people born in fire?

TESH a bhumi-class world, on the warmer end.

Wears its overgrown craters like a veteran wears scars. Its air is fresh again, after centuries of care. Its forests green again. Its nightward face darker than you'd expect.

You fly over the gleaming jag of Imperium-era urban centres---now quiet monuments to history's follies. The landing port is a fuel line bordering a dusty field.

You did not expect the Commune's founding world to feel this provincial. The local town is coastal; its ranches fade into foliage.

The Teshi are obliged to spend so much time in cold orbit; when planetside they prefer the company of warm, breathing things. In deep forest glades there are shrines to small deities and animal spirits.

TESH EXCHANGE a moon-sized astropolis.

Rises from the Belt of Tesh like a mountain breaching cloud. The bustle of traffic: exo-system trade flotillas; patrol squadrons; passenger fleets.

The warden assigned to your arrival is on comms. She greets you with the customary Teshi formula: "Be welcome home, returner."

Built pre-collapse, the Exchange serves as Ylang's primary bazaar once more. The outer sections are occupied. The inner sections were seeded with forests, and left to grow wild and weird; now they harbour heterodox sects, contraband caches, ghost AIs.

A glaring security risk. A commissar (usually Rakish) will bring this issue up every cycle. A station warden (usually Teshi) will shrug, and say: "the Green Mothers keep their own."

RAKE a bhumi-class world, on the colder end.

Rakish ingenuity melted its glaciers and formed it into a flowing paradise. All without Imperium techno-sorcery!

They are perhaps too smug about this. It is said of Rakish communards that they see themselves as first among equals---that they have a saviour complex. When the Assembly discusses expansion (spatial or ideological), it is often the voice of Rake that rings loudest.

Farm and factory co-ops the size of cities. Space elevators pulse like metronomes. On the way down you are assigned a drone liaison.

"I am LED," the android intones. "God-AI of planet-wide logistics. Let me know your purpose, and I shall assist."

IRRUSINE SIPHON a moon-sized astrofactory.

Irrusine Antimatter was a minor corpostate of the Star Imperium; its human citizens wiped themselves out in interdepartmental warfare sometime post-collapse.

Its artificial administrators remained.

Free from the logics of profit, Irrusine's AI choir mainly desires continued function. They are gardeners of the gas giant that fuel them. They make staunch but dispassionate communards. Mutual aid just makes mathematical sense? No more, no less.

Immigrants now equal AI drones in number. Friction flares now and again, but never too badly---you need only look at the mummy-pods that girdle the station to remember that flesh is more perishable than AI quantum-circuitry.

PRAVINE'S EYE an immersea tearpoint, buoys.

With Ylang's Gate shut the Eye is the system's main passageway.

Reality is threadbare, here. Beacons broadcast warnings, a strict transit schedule. If you jump queue you risk collision and para-real phenomena.

There are merchant trains bringing ur-mercury and exoplutonics, whales and refugees. There are tankers leaving with antimatter fuel and Verre-milk and revolutionary psi-dramas.

There are mass drivers, watchstations. The polities of the core systems---the Ansible League; Viridia-Twelvecent-Rogex; the Hundred Houses---many of these are predators. The Commune builds more kill-cruisers, these days.

GAK-GAK an asthi-class world, atmosphere-less.

A dead planet, never colonised before the Universal Commune. Its settlement was a test---a way to prove that the ideals of communards will spark life in the most sterile of worlds.

The older habs are matrices of interconnected diamonds, in echo of the UC sigil. Eight-star and open-palm motifs everywhere. Your market guide points this out before you can. He apologises for the gauche fervour of his forbears.

"We are way more chill nowadays," he says.

Now hab-complexes twinkle across Gak-Gak's surface; and Gakki shipwrights launch the sleekest, most luxuriant colony vessels.

I have been playing Starsector, recently. I am really bad at it? But it has given me a space-opera itch to scratch. So here it is.

Not sure why I went with space communism. Personal inclination, I suppose? And you don't really see it much, in sci-fi fiction or games, relative to all the gear porn and mega-industry and corpo-democracies. (The United Federation of Planets is not communist, folks ...)

The bits about Irrusine Siphon are a tentative prod at an idea I've had for a while: the notion that an artificial intelligence without limits / gone rampant / outgrowing its human makers might go in the opposite direction sci-fi bros fear? What if an AI crunches the numbers, with as complete a dataset as is possible, and concludes that conciliation and cooperation is truly the mathematically best way to function?

What if reality is ultimately and objectively more Kropotkin than bloody social-Darwinist?

Tesh is a discount Valley of the Na, and this whole thing owes all to Le Guin's Ekumen.

First Aid isn't particularly religious but he swears he sees Primus when Fort Max has him bent over the medbay berth. It's just them, Ratchet all but manhandled away by a very persuasive Drift, First Aid left alone to monitor it in his absence. Fortress Maximus had come to see his little lover, and, well...

"Hyuuuuh...!" First Aid all but squeals, vents gushing hot air, finger scrambling for purchase on the berth. His chassis is pressed flat against it, scraping back and forth with every thrust that sends him pitching forward. Fort Max isn't being rough at all, no; in fact he's being very gentle, as he always is with the tiny medic. But though soft and kind as his lovemaking may be, every single time he re-enters it makes First Aid's whole body jolt forward. His sheer size and strength means his spike punches into Aid's port, forceful and demanding, regardless of his intentions.

And First Aid loves every second of it. Spread open like a two credit whore and speared on an absolute monster of a cock is when he's happiest. All he can do is try to hold on, vents stuttering so quickly he very well may be sobbing, optics rolling up into helm every time the head of his spike makes bruising contact with the secondary cieling node nestled deep in his aft port.

Above him, Fort Max is whimpering, huge hands wrapped all the way around his tiny waist, denting the delicate plating as he gently fucks his tiny lover's body. First Aid is so small, he's so afraid of hurting him, and holding himself back is just about killing him.

"Come on, Max!" First Aid teases him. "Come o-OhhHh!" His voice cracks grandly as the massive mech shoves his spike in with a particularly harsh jolt to his body. "Come ON, Maxie! Harder! I can ta-AAA-ke it! Gimme harder, frag me harder-"

"Don't-" he grunts, denta clenched and optics glossy. "W-Wanna- hurt you-"

"I'm a medic!" First Aid snaps. "I know how much I can take, I can p-put myself back together again! Come ON, give it to me HARDER!"

First Aid knows what he's asking for. He's ready. He's had enough of this namby-pamby half-hearted fragging. He wants Fort Max to really, truly enjoy himself.

"Just let go, Maxie," he whispers to him. "It's ok. I promise, it's ok." First Aid can SEE the last of his resolve drain away, and he can't help a smug little grin. "Goo-OOHHHD-!"

There's a thunderous clang and stars flash in the medic's vision as huge hands come down on his shoulders, pinning him to the berth as the absolutely massive intrusion in his aft shoves so deep inside him with such ferocity that his chassis sparks against the berth. He moans out loud, crying out beneath the behemoth holding him down. Something in Maximus's expression changes, hardening as his last remaining threads of self control snap. He pulls his spike out til just the tip is still buried inside and then slams home like a wild mechanimal, with such force that the collision dents First Aid's aft. Paint transfers rather violently, scrapes of black and blue left on delicate red plating. Every thrust sends painful, processor blowing pleasure blowing through his lines; every impact of his massive lover lifts First Aid's pedes off the floor. His optics start to blink as his HUD lights up with warnings: damage to his port eminent, overload approaching, blaring messages and static alike corrupting his vision and threatening to make his optics short out. Words get lost in his throat, glossa limp and starting to snake past his lip plates as oral lubricant wells up and dribbles out the corner of his mouth.

And, still...

"H- Harder-" his voice is hoarse, and he hiccups around every syllable. "Harder, harder, HARDER! Please Maxie, harder!"

Jedi whump and angst? Don't mind if I do 😈 How about a sadistic choice scenario? Rescue a bunch of civilians or a single SIS agent with critical information that could possibly save a lot of lives later?

Edit: look what you did. it's a whole damn CHAPTER- XDDDDD THIS IS THE JAXO QUESTION BUT SO MUCH WORSE I AM GOING TO SCREAM- Anyway! Have this lil thingy I cooked up. It's set shortly after dueling Arcann on Asylum, hehe. It's not completely whump/blorbabuse, but it IS pure unadulterated angst, heh. And MCD. Sort of-not really- I promise everyone is mostly-fine! Except Corrain. I uh. beat up my faves. oops.

"-Arcann has scores of the Ossan's crew here. Almost seven hundred of them - and easily another hundred civilians from the planet below."

Theron's voice was twisted with that telltale mix of contempt and icy calm that meant he was seconds away from exploding, his words clipped over the static of the earpiece. Corrain dove through yet another blue-lit corridor in lieu of answering, pale golden blades carving a charred path through the endless Skytroopers. Behind him, Lana growled and beheaded yet another droid, lightning flashing in the brilliant acid gold of her eyes.

"I can imagine the Exarchs treated them...unpleasantly," she huffed, only a touch out of breath from the slog of fighting through four levels of droids.

"Unpleasantly? I'd almost rather be in an Imperial prison," Theron hissed. It was enough to give Corrain pause, darting into a nearby maintenance shaft, Lana still hot on his tail. A snarl curdled unbidden on his face.

"I doubt that," he sneered, before he could stop himself, the familiar bitter ice of anger sliding into his chest. The comm crackled with sudden static silence. Lana put a hand on his shoulder, her expression tense but understanding, and squeezed gently. He paused for a moment, trying to draw back the instinctive growl, and took a deep breath.

"Right. Out of line. Sorry, Theron."

"No, I get it, Cor. Not much can compare to what you went through - but trust me. This...probably comes closer than most."

"For their sake, I hope not," he replied, tone sliding towards worried at Theron's strangled commentary. "Force- I hope not."

He and Lana cut through three more corridors of Skytroopers and Zakuulan knights on the main level, Theron keeping up a running commentary on his own progress in the underbelly of the Star Fortress's maintenance shafts the whole time. He was busy wrecking the station's weaponry and defenses and generally causing enough mayhem on board to divert at least some of the Exarch's forces to repairing the damage - and as usual, he was having entirely too much fun with it. Corrain would have smiled if the mission hadn't been quite so heavy.

But finally, a string of groaning bodies and dismembered droids in their wake, he and Lana made it to the Star Fortress's control center. The doors were familiar bronzed metal, the locking mechanism melting in seconds under the application of a lightsaber. Lana kicked the steaming door-segment down with a flourish and winked wickedly, gesturing to the new hole.

"After you, darling Commander."

"My money's on a rosy blush there, Lana."

"Hmmm...I'll give it to you. I did try for cherry but he doesn't blush quite as brightly nowadays..."

"He's gotten used to us being sweet on him."

Corrain huffed at them, face burning, but Theron's laugh over his earpiece and Lana's teasing grin were infectious.

"Can you two not," he complained, ducking through the makeshift, smoking doorway. "We're almost-"

He blinked, bronzed hallways and blue Zakuulan floor lighting vanishing, the stark red and grey durasteel of an Imperial Command center greeting him instead. It looked nearly defunct, scorch marks sizzling on every surface, the telltale angry orange of lightsaber-melted metal scored through the walls and floors. The faint scent of smoke and burned flesh filled the air.

Suddenly, the entire station lurched sharply, hurling him and Lana into the room, terrified screaming beginning to drift up from the lower levels like a chorus of the damned. He choked, reaching out- the cloying, frigid cold of fear numbing his Force-senses, drowning him in icy depths. Static crackled in his ear again, and he turned, looking helplessly back at the hallway they'd just come from only to see the blank, unbroken transparisteel windows of the Emperor's Fortress, a lightless void of space echoing beyond.

-panic...scream...

The station lurched wildly again, a curse drifting over the commlink in his ear, faded in the face of his confusion and drifting horror. Theron. Theron, alone on the maintenance decks.

"We're taking heavy fire, Corrain!" Lana cried then, already at the controls- magically working despite the charred interface, her hands flying across the station controls. "We need to get the shields up or we're all going to die here!"

He blinked- suddenly the wide windows behind him alight with cannon fire, red bolts striking the station's hull. Overhead, the lights flickered. The screaming of the trapped prisoners grew louder, echoing inside his head. There was a hiss over the earpiece. Lana clicked her tongue, suddenly, pulling up a power routing schematic. Corrain studied it for a minute, fog inside his skull growing thicker, uncomprehending as Lana swore violently.

"Theron. Theron get out of there - shield power is at six percent. One more salvo from the Fleet and we're as good as dead - the only option is to power down and depressurize every maintenance level. It'll buy us enough time to get the Ossan's crew to safety."

"...Lana, the maintenance levels are crawling with Skytroopers," Theron said after a long, tense moment, his tone wavering with quiet acceptance. "I don't know if I can make it back in time."

Lana's expression tightened, her hands trembling on the console. Sluggish understanding crept through Corrain's head, the gravity of what that meant tearing something deep within his chest asunder.

"No-" he gasped out, eyes widening. He couldn't let this happen. "No- Theron, I'll come find you-"

"Cor, I'm at the other end of the Fortress, even you couldn't make it," Theron cut him off midsentence, his tone business like as usual, hiding a tremor. "Lana- how long until the Fleet fires again?"

"Less than five minutes- Theron-"

"There's no choice here," the spy snapped suddenly. "I'm not having you two save me and condemn eight hundred innocent people to death!"

Corrain lunged for the controls then, desperately scrolling, typing- but the software glitched violently, the schematic of power rerouting blinking out and then reappearing, the commands to depressurize the maintenance levels already typed in somehow, lines of code and text blurring. Lana wrapped an arm around his chest, squeezing- he couldn't breathe. Breathing hurt, phantom pains ripping his heart out, shredding organ and bone and flesh and- he blinked, time passed- sickly cold rolled through him, chilling him to the core-

He couldn't. He couldn't do this.

Lana disappeared in a soft wisp of smoke, the choking pressure of Vitiate's presence a lingering echo. Theron coughed sharply over the earpiece again-

"Cor. Corrain, you have to let me go."

"I- I can't-"

"You can. You have to. You can't sacrifice hundreds of innocent people for me."

(could he?)

...activity...fever is...infection?

"I can't lose you, Theron!"

He couldn't- not Theron, not Lana, the only two people he'd trusted with heart, body and soul- it would be worse than losing Orgus. Worse than losing the Jedi who'd raised him, from infant to Initiate- he couldn't-

"You're a Jedi, Corrain, you can't choose one life over eight hundred just because it's me!"

A Jedi- He was a Jedi - but was he really? Eight hundred was a drop in the bucket after- after Vitiate had forced him to- had forced him- The screaming from below grew louder again, fracturing the edges of his attention-

"...I can't."

He couldn't make himself hit submit - he was frozen, staring at the enter key which would reroute power and send his beloved spy hurtling into the vacuum of space. Pain throbbed through his chest cavity, heart bleeding ice into his lungs and stomach. Thunder roared in his ears, a heartbeat agonizing with an inability to decide, an inability to let go-

"...Then- I'm so sorry, Cor. I love you. Keyword: lunar regolith. Reroute power to the shields."

Horror- anger, fury beyond belief, a betrayal more profound than any other- terror, tearing at the inside of his heart like glass through cloth- How did Theron know that, no one knew that phrase anymore, no one besides him- not even Valkorion- and then he was moving again- moving to commit another atrocity, another murder-

Echoing silence rang suddenly in the station, his hands typing in the final strokes on autopilot- He sobbed, fighting futilely with his own body, straining against a force he'd never truly defeated, not even when he'd stood over Vitiate's broken body and drove a lightsaber through his skull. Theron's voice kept going, soft and sad in his ear.

"Cor, you'll be okay. I promise, you'll be okay. And I'm s-so sorry. I love you so-"

An echoing hiss, and then static.

Silence.

He woke up to the blur of soft medbay lights blinding overhead and drying tears carving cold arcs down his face. Cold- sickly cold, a burning cold that at once left him chilled to the marrow and burning hot, ate at the little strength he had, sapping him. For a moment, he just lay there, his memory garbled and body like wet noodles, dreamlike static sizzling in his ears, trying to piece together the shattered recollection of Theron's voice echoing softly in his ear, of Lana's hold on him turning to agony and relief all in one-

"...Corrain?"

A familiar voice- raw from exhaustion, the light accent only barely hiding the distress radiating from her. A blonde blur slid carefully into the white glow of the overhead lights, a smudge of soft gold with catlike golden eyes. He stared, blinking once - the haze only cleared enough to reveal more distinct facial features.

Lana.

"Force. Force, you're awake," she whispered, and he felt the edge of the bed he lay on dip slightly as she turned, sat down next to him. Gentle warmth enveloped one of his hands, a soft, shaky exhale leaving her lips as her fingers laced through his, her free hand pressing two fingers to the inside of his wrist, testing his pulse. Slowly, he tried to squeeze reassuringly- but the effort was vast, that slight movement sending stars sparking around the edges of his field of vision.

The soft replay of Theron's voice- cutting off into void static-

He took a breath- pain exploded through his lower ribcage, vicious even against the numbing effects of weakness and- painkiller? Kolto? Motes of understanding were slipping back, and slowly he became aware of the tube in his nose, the mask on his face and kolto pumps carefully attached to his chest, the tubes feeding into his arm. His chest ached bitterly, agony dulled in every shallow breath- from a lightsaber wound. Arcann's.

Memory came flooding back in a deluge of sudden relief. It had been a dream. Theron was fine- neither he nor Lana knew Corrain's keyword. It was just a nightmare. A nightmare borne of Arcann's lightsaber spearing fully through his body, and the brush with death that followed.

"...where...?"

His voice was cracked, barely a whisper, but it was all he could muster. Everything felt heavy and leaden. Lana choked back a wobbling little noise, tears standing unshed in her eyes, but she tried to smile.

"In the medbay on a planet called Odessen, close to the Unknown Regions," she explained, her expression strained but intensely relieved. "...you've been unconscious for almost a week now. We...we didn't think you were going to wake up."

There was a beat of silence, this information processing at an achingly slow pace, and then another voice echoed, as if coming from down a hallway. Another familiar voice, weary with worry.

"Lana, who are you talking- kriffing hell."

A blur of brown and red whirled around to the other side of his berth, the glint of metal at one temple enough to give away the game even before the hazy vision of post-injury could clear enough to let him see who it was. Theron strangled a sob as he skidded to a stop, relief pouring from him in waves.

"Stars. I thought-" Theron cut himself off midsentence, reaching for Lana with one hand even as he brought the other to Corrain's face, cupping one cheek tenderly. His hand was pleasantly cool against the fevered icyhot of Corrain's skin. And he was- he was alive. And well.

They were both alive and well, and the dream had been just that. A dream.

"...you're both okay..." Corrain breathed again, closing his eyes and leaning into Theron's grasp with an exhausted sigh. "...both okay..."

Theron and Lana both laughed at that, the sound tight and incredulous, but heartachingly fond.

"You're one to talk."

Hyrule Brochure: A Potential for BotW’s Future

Hyrule’s map in BotW is pretty sparse as far as cities go. Yes, it’s got more than any other Zelda game, but it also has like, 90% of its map being pure dead space.

So I decided to play around and make what I imagine Hyrule would look like, as far as cities go, if it were allowed to properly rebuild and not get totally wrecked by Ganon again.

So, these are the canon towns we get in BotW; Hateno, Lurelin, Tarrey, Zora’s Domain, Goron City, Korok Forest, Rito Village, Yiga Hideout, and Gerudo Town. I’m counting Yiga Hideout as a town because if the Yiga were a little nicer, it WOULD be marked one.

Adding the various stables on makes the place look MUCH less empty, but still; what can we do with this?

Well, I’ve spent the last several days locating all the significant ruins and landmarks, with one or two extra things thrown in, that I think would make this place much more populated.

Maps are free to use if you want them, btw. Have fun!

As a general rule of thumb, I want to make the towers and stables their own cities. The towers are a good landmark and beacon of safety, and the stables have all the building blocks to start building up a village.

If I’m particularly inspired, I’ll give some background on what the town is/does!

Starting off with the Rito! Their village has grown into a town, and the stable at its foothill is its own village now. I called it “fledgeling” because that’s where the Rito and Hylians would intermingle most, so the Rito aren’t exactly flying around here.

Beacon City is built around Tabantha Tower; the Rito have turned it into a sort of lighthouse, reflecting light off into the distance to help guide nighttime fliers home. Because of this, it’s a very popular stop for mail carriers, and where they go, development and cultural mixing follows.

Kaysa Town is built around Great Fairy Kaysa’s fountain; it’s a popular tourist attraction, and she gets plenty of offerings, so win-win!

For the Gorons, we’ve only got two more cities: Silversmith Village and Din’s Spire. Silversmith is built around the culture in the southern mines, and it has down-the-road access to the Goron Hot Springs. Din’s Spire is less of a town and more of a landmark, due to the sheer cliffs all around it, but the huge (and notably not in the burning death zone) hot spring lake makes it a popular rest stop for people on their way through.

I decided not to rebuild the northern mines; they’re pretty busted up and lava soaked, so my assumption is that they were abandoned either due to hazards or due to the ore being stripped out.

Korok Forest wouldn’t change much, besides the Royal Family declaring it a protected area. The Koroks don’t seem to have much interest in expansion, and they, as far as I know, don’t live in houses.

Gerudo Territory is MUCH more expansive than the others so far, and with good reason.

Gerudo Town itself is now Gerudo City, and the Kara Kara Bazaar has grown into a town. Canyon Stable has developed a village (mostly full of Gerudo husbands so they don’t have to travel a million miles just to see their families).

The Gerudo have control of one of the towers in their region, and the town built around it is Overlook Town. It mostly serves as a training grounds for young Gerudo warriors.

The City of the Seven developed when the Seven Heroine statues were recovered and restored; the town around them was built to honor them, and then it got a LOT of foot traffic from those wanting to see the legendary statues.

Tera Town rose up much in the same way Kaysa Town did up in Rito territory, centered around the Great Fairy Fountain.

Mesa Village and West Gerudo Town are both smaller Gerudo settlements; West Gerudo sprung up out of access to snowmelt from the Gerudo Highlands, and Mesa Village, because of its relative safety from Molduga and access to oasis water.

Finally, Gerudo Valley, in reference to Ocarina of Time. This town is a Gerudo-only zone, and is more a fortress than a town. It exists both to keep an eye on the Yiga and to gain control of the mountain pass, making people go through Canyon Village to get to Gerudo instead of avoiding Gerudo customs.

Speaking of the Yiga, they’ve taken two new spots for themselves; Gerudo Tower, which they’ve renamed Kohga Tower in honor of their late Master, and Banana Labyrinth, which serves as their highest security area. Imagine if you’d had to go through the LABYRINTH to get the Thunder Helm back.

Up next we’ve got the Zora. Truthfully, their territory spans as long as Zora river and WELL into the ocean, but these are the only cities that, technically, a Hylian with adequate gear can enter.

Mipha’s Landing is an above-water city built expressly for doing trade. It got its name from the late Mipha; since the tower reaches up into the sky, it was hoped that someday, her spirit would sit atop it for a rest and see all that her people had been able to do thanks to her sacrifice.

Lakebed Village is in Lake Hylia, and it’s actually a slowly-repopulating Lakebed Temple, from Twilight Princess. Meanwhile, Great Bay City is a port town above water and an aquatic metropolis below, full of music and dance and exotic wares.

And finally, Hylians.

Hoo boy.

I’ve split this up region by region but

THIS is how many living spots they’ve got.

Silver stars indicate military towns. Red stars indicate military outposts.

I USE THE TERM MILITARY VERY LOOSELY HERE. Hyrule, since it doesn’t interact with its neighbors, only has the Yiga and the various monsters to fight against. Anything labeled “military” means that it’s staffed by royal employ, meaning knights and Sheikah and the like.

Let’s start with Akkala. The northeast labyrinth has been converted into an emergency bunker, in case Calamity strikes and people need a safe place to hide. Not only is it difficult to break into, it also has a completely empty lower level that’s PERFECT for long-term seige.

City Tempest got its name for being near-constantly wracked by storms. Despite this, though, it remains a popular vacation spot for people who don’t mind a little rain; the Skull Lake and the giant flowers are worth it.

Valley Town rose up out of both East Akkala Stable and Robbie’s workshop. It doesn’t get too much foot traffic, but it doesn’t really need to.

Midna Village, I built where the ruins of Shadow Hamlet are. I figured it was a fitting name, and the area is almost constantly covered in the shadow of Death Mountain.

Four Brothers’ Base is a knight outpost that’s up extremely high, spanning huge bridges between the four Tingle isles.

Then Parapa Palace, in reference to Zelda II: Adventure of Link, was built in place of the Akkala Citadel and functions as a mini Hyrule Castle + Castle Town. In real life, monarchs would have several palaces to go between, kind of like how well-off people nowadays would have a summer home. So, I followed that trend! This is Zel’s summer palace.

And you guys know what Tarrey Town is. Although interestingly, as it expands, it goes vertical into the stone column it was built on.

Onto Central Hyrule.

Camp Rauru is training camp and lodging for new knights. Rebonae Village and Kasuto City were made out of the Wetland and Riverside stables respectively, though Kasuto (also an Adventure of Link reference) gets substantially more foot traffic due to being on the way from Castle Town to Dueling Peaks.

Outset Town got its name, lore-wise, from the fact that it’s the first bit of land Link from BotW visited after leaving the Great Plateau, and meta-wise, because it’s the starting point for Wind Waker Link.

Aquame City surrounds the Coliseum, which is how it grew to be so popular. The grand stage holds sparring matches and various other shows regularly, and it’s a pleasant boat trip from Castle Town to get there.

Saria Town was built out of the old exchange ruins, and it’s in walking distance of the ruined Sage Temple—which, at this point in time, would have been rebuilt—and its existence is both an AoL reference and an OoT one (but mostly AoL, I’ve kind of fallen in love with its map).

New Mabe is where you can find the new Lon Lon Ranch! The ruins there are actually called the Mabe Town Ruins in game, and they’re right by the Ranch Ruins!

Eldin’s pretty sparse as far as Hylian towns go. It’s got Gut Check Camp, where Sheikah train for endurance and elemental resistance, and Windfall Town, a place that sees a LOT of gemstones pass through, freshly mined. That includes rupee ore, mind you!

Faron Province is a little more spaced out, due to the nature of the region. Lurelin’s grown since BotW, becoming a trading bay; meanwhile Cora Lake’s Sheikah Tower has expanded into Parache Town, and the Highland Stable has become Malanya Village. Both of those locations are VERY fond of horses, and they’re a bit competitive, especially during archery season.

Ordona Hamlet is a tiny village tucked away into the middle of Faron. It came about due to the Lakeside Stable, and it’s named that because I am STILL salty that the Zeldevs didn’t put an Ordon Village reference in the game.

Eventide Outpost is more of a testing ground for boats than anything particularly significant, population-wise. The even tides that gave the isle its name make it an ideal location to work out the kinks in new watercraft (and occasionally, the lieutenant in charge of that base demonstrates how to launch a raft into the sky with octo balloons).

Hebra’s the most militarized area of Hyrule, and ideally, it functions as a reserve of men and tech in case Calamity rises again. If there’s anything that BotW’s era learned, it’s to never underprepare for Gann’s return.

Fort Lomei is a converted base, just like the Banana Labyrinth is to the Yiga. This one, though, is patrolled diligently by knights who use daily-changing codes, and it’s impossible to navigate without the locals’ help.

Fort Pikida is situated in that weird stone cavern-y area, and it’s a supply stach and Hebran monster patrol site. It’s the soldiers there’s job to make sure that the Lynels that like to roam the region don’t get too close to residential areas.

Hia Miu Outpost is a training spot for knights sent to the Hebra region; any new soldier to the area has to prove they can handle themselves by going into the Hia Miu shrine and taking on the Major Test of Strength Trial. (Fun fact, did you know that the X-test-of-strength trials reset themselves every blood moon?)

Snowpeak Fortress exists both because it makes a fantastic secondary base for the Hyrulean royals to plan, and because i am once again salty about the lack of Twilight Princess in this game.

Sturnida Resort is built around hot springs! It’s a nice spot for people living around Rito Town and Fledgling Village to take a vacation without having to trek all the way across the country to do it.

Snowfield City came from Snowfield Stable, and it’s the Windfall of Hebra; it sees a LOT of people coming in and out of the region, and the view of the northern lights you can get from there? You’d be hard-pressed to find a Hylian that didn’t have it on their bucket list.

New Tabantha was built on the ruined spot of the original Tabantha Village; you can visit there in-game! It’s a quiet town that raises highland sheep for a living, and its team won the Hebran Triathlon three whole years in a row.

Then, the Tanagar Restricted Zone. If you’ve ever been there, you know EXACTLY why it’s restricted.

Most of the Guardians inside have been dealt with, but the ruined temple remains a hazard testing ground for new tech. It’s off limits to everyone but those with the HIGHEST clearance; I’m talking a direct letter from Zelda herself.

The Thyphlo Secret Camp is exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a place for Hyrulean lieutenants to meet for top-secret missions, and it’s one of those places that you need to be SERIOUSLY high rank to even KNOW about.

Over on the edge of Lanayru, we’ve got New Goponga, built where the old Goponga ruins are, and the Crenel Garrison. The Garrison was built to take care of the Lizalfos problems in the waterways, keeping it safe for Hylians and Zora travelers alike. Goponga, on the other hand, is what Lurelin was in game; nice, friendly, and centered around fishery.

In Necluda, we’ve got New Deya where old Deya was ruined (I think BotW Link was born in old Deya!), Watchtower Village built around the lakeside of the Dueling Peaks tower, and then Dueling Peaks City, a HUGE trade hub that was once the Dueling Peaks stable.

Kakariko Village is now a Town, Hateno has grown into a full blown trade harbor, and a tiny village has started to form around the Hateno Tower, making Firly Overlook.

But what I most love is the City of Hylanay.

Back in the game, it was the ruins of the Lanayru Promenade. So I had the promenade rebuilt, then people moved in around it, and now, Hylanay’s basically Hyrulean Venice! I want to visit it.

On the Great Plateau, we’ve got Aboda Town, named after Spirit Tracks’ Aboda Village in reference to the starting point in each game. This Town has access to the original Temple of Time, but because of the nature of the isolated plateau, it doesn’t see a lot of new faces often.

Over around Thundra, we’ve got Tanagar Village overlooking the canyon, built out of the old Tabantha Stable. The village actually builds downwards into the canyon; people have windows carved right out of the cliff face!

Thundra Village is built into the rocky slopes surrounding Thundra Plateau and the Ridgeland Tower. Their houses are built in the shelter of the giant mushroom things that grow so well in the area, and they’re famous for their signature dish of escargot.

The Serenne Exchange is up north, encompassing both the old Serenne Stable and the Maritta exchange ruins. You can buy practically ANYTHING there; if ever there was a supermarket in Hyrule, it would be right there.

The Royal Lab was rebuilt out of its ruins post Calamity, and it’s directed by Purah, who still hasn’t cured her immortality yet. It’s not uncommon to hear explosions as you pass by that place.

And then Camp Rutile is a small observational outpost, meant to keep track of the activity on Satori Mountain. Supposedly, the mountain’s health reflects the state of the rest of the kingdom, so the researchers assigned there are tasked with monitoring it EXTREMELY closely.

And Hyrule Castle. It’s Hyrule Castle.

Now completely bolted into the ground! :D

If we put all these locations together, we get a very nice, very well populated Hyrule, with LOTS to see. This is how I would design the future of BotW’s Hyrule.
