One of these days, probably when my semester ends, I’m ACTUALLY going to write a fix about the ARK-era extended Robotnik family. Til then; I’m whipping up profiles for the OC Robotnik family.
Maria’s Dad: Stanisław/Stan Robotnik. Elder of the two sons of Gerald Robotnik. Gentle, friendly guy but also full of passion. Holds an MD and a PhD in biology, immunology and neurology. A child prodigy like many of the Robotnik family, he spent much of his time studying, aspiring to one day aid his father in the betterment of humanity. The ARK finished completion around the same time as he received his last PhD, and about a month after he married. Being a member of the Robotnik family, he was among the inaugural resident-researchers on the ARK, and intended to study rare diseases and conduct vaccine research. He and his wife struggled for some time to conceive, and after many tries, Maria was born. Stan’s life work was fatherhood more than any of the research he ever did on the ARK, but often his job as a father and his job as a scientist intertwined, given Maria’s condition. He could work for hours on end, dedicating large amounts of his nights to his causes. Often has to be dragged away from work to do other things, like spend time with the rest of his family. Since so much of his work surrounds Maria, he positively dotes on her. Besides Gerald, he’s probably the most devoted to her. Age during the ARK raid: 45
Maria’s mom: Anastazja/Anna Robotnik. Maiden last name Czaplicka. Met Stan during his studies for his second PhD. Was a student at the same university, studying for her masters in anthropology. Also holds a degree in sociology. They married shortly before graduation. A people person, but also deeply analytical. Charismatic but also inappropriately chatty at times, and often delves into subjects that aren’t related to the conversation at hand. Probably the only Robotnik family member with any semblance of being religious ever since Gerald’s wife died. Believes in God but keeps her views mostly to herself, respecting her husbands family’s difference in views. Joined Stan as an important part of the ARK’s inaugural resident-researchers. She was to observe social and cultural changes involved in the formation of the new colony. A special research team was created just for this purpose. Her friendly nature allowed her to be a welcome presence in the lives of most people on the colony, aiding in the study. When not observing the residents of ARK for work, she’s happy to host social parties and have tea with them anytime. Given her limited medical knowledge, she spends most of her time worrying about Maria, ensuring all protocols regarding her care are followed to a T. She’s always hovering around Maria when she can, and is absolutely particular about the living space being as safe for her as possible.
Age during the ARK raid: 43
Iwo’s Dad: Jakòb/Jacob Robotnik. Has a PhD in engineering and mathematics, also is an expert in computer science (he has no specific degree in it because we didn’t start having those til after when I imagine the ARK was around). His focus as a resident-researcher is in the mechanical functions of the ARK. He has a keen interest in aerospace engineering, naturally, and is in charge of keeping the ARK’s functioning as a space station. He is also using his time on ARK to develop new technologies in computer science, automation, and robotics. Jakòb is incredibly impassioned when it comes to his work and very proud of the modern marvel that is the ARK. Since his work is so crucial, managing all the various engineers, and doing his own work in the field, he’s often the busiest man on the entire colony. And when he’s not on the clock doing work keeping the place running, he’s often tinkering with pet projects he always have. Additionally, he became a sensation for becoming the first man married in space, having met his wife on the ARK, unlike his brother, who was married prior to coming aboard the ARK. The couple debated for a while about having children, content to be an aunt and uncle, but would eventually have Iwo. Jakòb however was quite busy and didn’t have as much time to spend with his family as Stan did with his. Oftentimes however, you could find that he’d drag Iwo’s crib into the workshop for some company.
Age during ARK raid: 37
Iwo’s mom: Daniela Robotnik. Maiden last name Grabowska. Holds a PhD in Biology and a masters in engineering. Was recruited for the ARK’s research program from Poland as part of their worldwide search for the brightest scientists to serve as researchers in never before performed studies. She worked as the head biotechnologist on the ARK, and works on important studies on the intersection of medicine and mechanics. She’s one of the highest regarded scientists on the ARK besides the Robotnik family and even has other scientists working under her. She met Jakòb in the employee lounge a few years into her time at ARK. The bonded over their shared interest in engineering and robotics. They married about a year later. She is well known on the ARK for her strong spirit and commanding presence. She is strong and holds her ground, often blunt and to the point about it. Her employees often view her as a hard boss to deal with at times, but she does everything out of the desire for everyone to do their best. Full of intense passion similar to Jakòb’s about her work, her hobbies, and everything else in her life. She’s almost always in high spirits and gets along with just about everybody. She refused to completely abandon her work following the birth of her son, but in a somewhat diminished capacity as Iwo was not allowed in the biotech lab the same way he was allowed in Jakòb’s workshop. She tries her best to be an active mother otherwise, but keeping up with a one year old after her work can be tiring. If what she was doing wasn’t so important, she might think about putting it on hold just for a little bit.
Age during ARK raid: 34
Additional headcanons about canonical members:
Gerald Robotnik is half Austrian on his mothers side. She met his father when she came to Poland as a teenager for her father’s work.
He comes from a long line of Professors and was a child prodigy himself.
Gerald’s wife died a few years into the ARKs operation. His riches come from years of work in the medicine field, and selling his numerous inventions.
Maria has a lot of dolls and “play pretend” type toys as a young child, as she usually can’t do most active play for very long.
She also knows Polish, of course but doesn’t use it often, to the chagrin of her grandfather.
Due to having to sit still for a long time for certain treatments, Maria developed a lot of relaxed hobbies as she got older, like drawing, knitting, and paper crafts.
Iwo was big as a baby. He was 10 pounds, 5 ounces.
When he was teething, he would chew on anything he could get in his mouth, up to and including his fathers tools.
His first word was “Mine!” Yelled out at another baby in the ARK nursery.

Okay, here we go!
Episode 2 - (I Don't Want to Go to) Chelsea
Tumblr media
Oh, I'm digging this remix!
Keeley's office is so cute
Keeley & Ted really are the same person, aren't they 🥰
I have a feeling I'm going to love Barbara
TED!!! That was very enthusiastic, even for this lot 😂
I'm glad we're gonna get more Trent this season
OMG, their collective 'no' for him to just agree. Hilarious
How can he honestly still be so clueless about the Football world? 🫣
"The fumes make me dizzy and I overshare. Please don't print that" Rebecca, you are so real 😂
Rebecca instantly changing her mind once West Ham is mentioned and Trent fully seeing it.... hmm... 👀
Zava dabba doo! OMG, control yourself, woman! 😂
The exact same thing switched between Ted & Rebecca? Brilliant move. And her admitting to it being because of Rupert? Yes!!
'Love that' spoken like a man who knows about shitty exes
Ted & Keeley bonding! I've missed it
Isaac scaring Keeley, amazing. Him wanting a shoe deal but just for shoes, amazing. He's moved on from his Rolos!!
Jamie stuttering around Keeley, boy's still got it bad, huh?
Of course Isaac is a body language boy!
CLENCHED ARSE!! OMG 😂
'I use body science' oh Jamie
That pitiful hum. I love you Jamie!
'It's called empathy, you dusty old fart' I think Roy & Jamie are my favourite pairing in this show, after Ted & Rebecca, of course
'I forget how skittish elderly people could be cause of the war' please never change!!
“And don’t you say a fucking word about it either, William” OMG poor Will! 😂
Oooo he's reading a book. Beard, I'm as shocked as you
Beard's screams!!
He's saying football without thinking... he's learning!!
This banter about wishes is just Brendan & Jason doing what they do best. I love to see it
'I just wished for that 30 seconds ago' Dani, please never change 🥰
This confusion about what is going on is my type of comedy
The boys being collectively upset about Roy & Keeley, so true.
And Beard's scream, Ted fainting... I love my boys
The collective 'aww' Poor Roy haha
'What's a CD?' HOW OLD ARE YOU, WILLIAM?! My god 🫠
Of course Beard has a set of keys to Ted's
How many times did they have to film Brendan running back in screaming before they could do it without laughing?? I can't not laugh watching it!
Roy boy is so angry, bless him
I see you Phil, trying your best not to completely crack up in the background 🤪
'Woo! I mean, fuck off, Trent Crimm' we must protect Dani at all costs
Is this us being shown that more people don't trust or believe in Keeley yet? 🤔
She's so precious, still not understanding why people would be proud of her 🥰
DEBORAH!!
Of course Deb doesn't camp. Who do you think she is?!
Ooo, Tish talk 👀
Nothing like being overly sarcastic with your mother. It's my favourite thing to do!
Her own mother telling her she should meet with her psychic because she's in desperate need of maternal guidance? Please never change, Deb! 🫡
This show is so good at the callbacks, Rebecca mentioning something about Rupert that she knows so well which we get to hear about later... more shows need to be like this!
Hannah & Jeremy together are just gorgeous! 'No, it's too late. Jinxed it' I could watch these two banter for hours
Everyone ignoring him, poor Trent 😕
Brett has been amazing in this episode, as with all the others, but a full scene where he doesn't say anything, but you understand everything... ALL THE AWARDS! The balloon popping is the icing on this scene
Babs is showing Keeley exactly what she thinks of her without saying it, that's cruel. Leave her alone!
I can see this relationship becoming something wonderful though
Believe, believe, believe. It's almost like that's what this show is about or something...
Mae & the bar boys are back! 🥳
Is that text foreshadowing that hiring her friend may not work out??? 🤔
I'm with Hannah, I could watch an entire show of just these three at games
'Jinxed it again' Hannah & Jeremy, again, marvellous!
The stadium being behind Roy may have made me tear up a little, not gonna lie 🥹
Rebecca grabbing Keeley's hand 🥹
Lip-reading massage therapists
SHE USED TO BE A BARTENDER! 👀
AND HE WAS MARRIED WHEN THEY GOT TOGETHER!!! 👀👀
I love backstories!!
Ted telling Roy like it is and him not blowing up at him?? Love to see it
Also perfect explanation of what a Hallmark movie is 🫡
Roy still being angry because of something written when he was 17? So real.
The boys being relieved they can talk again 😂
Them also not needing Ted to give them their pep talks at games anymore cause they're working it out themselves...I see what's happening... 🤔
Go on Rebeca! Be a boss bitch!!
I will say this everytime we see Rupert, but I fucking love Anthony Head 😍
I can never take my eyes off the screen when Hannah & Tony are on it
HANNAH'S FACE!! Truly a masterclass in showing everything without words
YESS! CHEW HIM OUT, REBECCA!!! We love an angry woman!!
Off Dani's fucking face! 'My face scored a goal' 😂
A sour-yell. Perfect
Her popping back round the corner, Hannah you comedy queen
Twat - Ooo, I do love an angry Rupert 😏
'May I keep the pen' I think I'm gonna like this Zava
Another Beard yell, I'm in love 🥰
Zava and Jamie are gonna clash big time. I'm excited
Jane still finds them threatening 👀👀
Roy's whole speech being basically a parallel for what they're setting up to be Ted's journey this season... interesting 🤔
That's another one done! This was one of my favourites, I think. Got back to the humour of the show a bit more.

Simple, SUPER SCIENCE! Sure, there are herbs, chemicals and esoteric forbidden acupuncture, and the like. But they are, at best, only secondary
Tumblr media
No doubt you have noted that all of The Temples are housed in a three-story or two-story building with a sub-sub basement.
Part one of the process starts in the very ordinary (but also high class and extraordinary!) salon, which is like any other such establishment.
Where hair is washed and fixed, and makeup is done. And where our highly trained staff tests our clients to see who is best suited for our unique treatment. Once that is decided, our team on the top floor starts changing the paperwork to be ready for the new her when we are done.
Tumblr media
On being picked, that client is given a tea that sees that they enter a healthy deep sleep—a sleep of at least a day and a half.
Tumblr media
Once under, they are wheeled to where part two starts when they are placed in the first of a series of Madame Shu’s transformation pods.
Tumblr media
It reduces them to a living gelatin-like mass, which is then transferred (yes, via pipes, if you must know) to a reformation chamber. There, there is more SCIENCE and they are returned, like a butterfly, to solid form. Excellent, healthy human form but to our design.
Tumblr media
However, this is just the physical form; the client is still the same mentally as she was when she came in; she just looks different.
Tumblr media
That takes us to Part three, where the still sleeping client is placed in one of Madame Shu's Deep Education Bonnets (DEBs), which, in just a few hours, can impart into the brain of the client a new second language (both written and spoken) as well as full knowledge of all customs, history, and etiquette of their new culture.
Tumblr media
They are still entirely themselves; they are now just a Chinese, Japanese, or Cambodian version of themselves.
At the same time, a set of profound post-hypnotic suggestions is implanted to ensure the client remains calm and accepting on seeing their new self.
Tumblr media
After this, the last part of the transformation takes place, and the client is given a complete makeover from head to foot and returned to the main salon for the big reveal.
Tumblr media
Drama and excitement then ensue, but soon all is calm and good, and Alice Meadows is Ai Li Mei Dao (Chinese), or Arisu Miedozaki (Japanese), or Aliza Masidlawin (Filipino), or Aeri Meojuri (Korean), or Cambodian, or Laotian, or Indian, or Samoan, or Vietnamese, or Thai, or who knows which? Whatever the case, she is off to a new life, and what a life it is, all with a new identity and once our people are done, even a better job and place to live.

gallavich week 2021 - day 4 - lyrics
@gallavichthings
space boy, show me the stars you know the galaxies of my heart (from 'space girl' by frances forever)
Tumblr media
when ian was little, monica used to take them to the science museum sometimes. while lip rambled to fiona about all the different exhibits, ian was solely lost in the stars.
in the planetarium, ian swore he was weightless. like he felt the infinity. lip had once told him that infinity meant really, really big, and ian felt really, really big.
monica would stretch out under the stars with him and point out the different constellations. cassiopeia was the queen with unrivaled beauty, but ian thought his mom was even prettier.
the only birthday party ian had wanted for his 7th year around the sun was a space themed party. fiona made little alien costumes for baby debs and carl, who looked absolutely ridiculous. ian's cake was a rocket ship, designed by lip with candles meticulously placed for lift off.
lip tried to understand his obsession, listening to ian talk about the stars for what seemed like hours. one afternoon, he came home and stuck little plastic stars on their ceiling. at nights when ian couldn't sleep, he would count the stars and think of his big brother. it helped.
supernovas. black holes. galaxies. big planets. small planets. but they all had their place in the universe. like the gallaghers all had their place in their family.
over the years, it became family tradition to watch cosmos together. at first, it was the only show that ian would pay attention to. but soon enough, everyone was hooked, even kev and v from next door. ian was thankful for his own little solar system.
when ian first met the gruff boy with the dark hair, it felt like his universe had shifted, aligned, in some way. he didn't understand it at first, but he was pulled to him in ways he had never known.
he spent hours gazing into the boy's eyes. so blue. they reminded him of neptune. neptune may be the coldest planet in the solar system, but with mickey, all ian felt was warmth.
some nights, out in the old baseball dugouts, ian would take note of the phases of the moon. ian hoped that mickey's amiability wouldn't just be a phase. he didn't think he could take it if it was.
"you wanna lay out a blanket and look for shooting stars next?"
he did.
on ian's birthday one year, mickey had took him to the rooftop of the abandoned building they frequented. that was nothing new. what was new was the metallic contraption. mickey. "you like it?" "mickey, that's a fucking telescope." "i know what it is, dipshit, we stargazing tonight or what?"
sometimes the club lights in boystown reminded ian of the cosmos.
on one of the occasions when ian's mind turned itself into a black hole, mickey took him outside. it was cold. mickey covered him with as many blankets as he could, but it wasn't enough to warm the chill of his heart. he sat still as they watched the moon and mickey told stories about what he would do if he lived up there, if they lived up there together.
when mickey was gone, he spent a lot of time with the stars thinking about what could have been. he wondered if the stars he was looking at were long dead or still burning bright. he thought he understood what lightyears felt like.
"you ever think, back in the day, this is where we'd be?"
gazing at the moon by the mexican border wasn't too unlike gazing at the moon in chicago. but it felt different, he was split. he silently begged the universe for a sign. he wasn't sure if he heard one.
sitting on his mother's grave, lone in the cemetary, ian stared up at the stars again. he hoped monica was dancing up there with cassiopeia.
ian thought he heard the universe talk to him. he wanted so badly to listen. he needed help. he couldn't do this on his own.
he wouldn't.
on the eve of his wedding night, ian thanked the lucky stars for how they aligned.
in their new home, ian watched as the moonlight glinted off the metallic rings shared by him and his husband. saturn ain't got nothing on them.
ian and mickey sat on their back porch leaned up against each other, watching the dog chase their kid around their yard. ian laughed as his daughter carefully brought him a firefly she had caught in her tiny hands, "look daddy! a star bug!" "very cool, nova! why don't you catch one for dad?" mickey rolled his eyes. he wasn't a fan of bugs, no matter how much they glowed.
ian had always been a stargazer, but mickey. mickey was the one who had truly showed him the stars. what it meant to love so blindingly and bright. what it meant to feel warm and safe in the cold. what it meant to shine in the darkness. he lit up his whole galaxy.

OH MY LORD THAT WAS A PHENOMENAL EPISODE.
I’m not even gonna try to go chronologically I just have so many Emotions
EMotions
I have to join that elite woodworking club so I can handcraft an emmy and personally deliver it to Alice Lee
this was the first time that the emotion of a heartsong overtook the production value, and it was the perfect one to do so-the performance was completely raw and real and it affected me so much
only this show can have me crying with laughter (JCS also gets one of my handcrafted emmys) and crying with sympathy in the span of an hour
also side note right while I was writing this I got the email that my attack magic shirt just shipped!!! I’m about to get a painted bunting!!! wooooooo!!!!
speaking of anyone, Skylar’s performance was also incredible-the best songs on this show are often the ones that are sung live, and, again, vulnerable and raw and real and AHHHHH
I loved the new insight we got into Rose’s character
the glitch in the title card was fabulous
the maximo’s set is just stunning, I keep being reminded of that
that opening scene was legitimately the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen
they were so cute this episode I simply cannot (although I feel like the other shoe is about to drop and I’m Very Scared)
while we’re on the zimon topic ZOEY MA’AM I SWEAR IF YOU DON’T TELL HIM I WILL BREAK THROUGH THE SCREEN AND YOU AND I WILL HAVE A TALK
not even only to yell at her about it. I just want to talk to her, I think we’d be good friends
given that their whole relationship started when she heard his first heartsong and was built off of that point and now she kept it from him AGAIN when she had a PERFECT CHANCE and he would have been VERY OPEN-MINDED...I’m scared yall I love them so much and don’t want them to hurt, I love them together and while I understand why Zoey wouldn’t want to ruin it it would be ruined even more if she kept lying
aaaaaanyway
Mary Steenburgen duetting with herself is everything I never knew I needed (and now I want to see Kap and Morgan do that number too)
the choreo for One absolutely slapped, I’m still living for the McTobin banter, and the costumes were impeccable (Kenzie’s tights!! Tobin’s sweatshirt!! the return of The Classic L.D. Tight Pants™️!!)
Katie Findlay ma’am how do you do that. how. do you. do that
Maggie with the pot step-touching behind Zoey...classic
Rocco Morris is Winning At Life. HIT THOSE RIFFS BUDDY
Marvin is adorable. I wouldn’t be surprised if nbc started selling those stuffed foxes as merch (and yes I would buy one)
I’m so invested in Mo and Perry’s relationship at this point (although I always have been)
turns out my favorite type of country music is Alex Newell country music
the message of this episode, flawlessly delivered by one of my favorite new characters, is so incredibly touching and needed and beautifully pulled off
and, as always, all the little one-liners and character moments were fantastic; Zoey at the science center, Mo’s crime drama obsession, the furby anatomy room, etc
Jane’s facial expressions were off the CHARTS, this woman is seriously everything I want to be as an actress and a person
WE GET MORE DEB NEXT WEEK WOOOOOOOOOO
this episode was just utterly phenomenal in every way as always; can’t wait for more (although I am Scared but hopefully things end up okay)
this is. probably my longest thoughts post yet. enjoy

Excerpt from this story from Inside Climate News:
Public lands are set to play a pivotal role in the Biden administration’s ambitious climate change agenda. The national parks, wildlife refuges and national recreation areas overseen by the U.S. Department of the Interior have been little-appreciated as climate solutions, even though they’re crucial sinks for greenhouse gas emissions. But Interior lands are also part of the nation’s climate problem, since they hold vast reserves of fossil fuels that, when extracted and burned, generate climate pollution.
President Joe Biden began dismantling some pro-drilling policies within hours of being sworn in, but applying a climate-action mindset to day-to-day decisions, not only at Interior but throughout the federal government, will take much longer and could prove much harder. With public lands accounting for nearly one-quarter of the nation’s climate pollution, the new administration’s success—and the durability of its agenda—depends partly on clearing away obstacles from the Trump era.
“My hope is that they can walk and chew gum at the same time,” said Jesse Prentice-Dunn, policy director at the Colorado-based Center for Western Priorities, commenting on the short-term challenge of undoing the Trump pro-development agenda and the longer-term challenge of advancing the new administration’s pro-climate agenda.
A 60-day pause on major Interior Department actions remains in place for another month, following a series of executive orders on climate change and public lands that Biden signed in his first week in office. During that time, officials will be mulling a to-do list for Interior that probably looks something like this:
1. Confirmation of U.S. Rep. Deb Haaland to Lead the Department
2. Adding Climate Considerations to a Public Lands Leasing Program Previously Based on ‘Energy Dominance‘
Tumblr media
3. Restoring Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments
4. Cleaning Up After William Perry Pendley at the Bureau of Land Management
Tumblr media
5. Restoring Endangered Species Act and Habitat Protections
6. Restoring a Culture that Values Science-based Decisions

One Fine Day 2/8
Fandom: The Karate Kid, Cobra Kai, Johnny Lawrence
Rating: T

In 1988 former West Valley alum Laurie Thompson reunites with her high school crush Johnny Lawrence in college. Becoming his tutor the two grow close and she learns more about the real him and his side of the story. As she helps him with school she also helps him with his life and letting go of things from the past, while also falling in love. Multiple characters mentioned, others will appear. Title is the song by The Chiffons.
Author’s Note: Thanks everyone for all the likes and comments on chapter 1!!! :D I’m planning to post chapters every Monday and Thursday since I’ve got the whole story written as a rough draft. This is now the fastest I’ve ever written a fic. LOL Now we have Johnny’s POV and what’s been going on with him. :)
Chapter 2
“So we’ve noticed there’s some issues with your school work and partying, and you know to keep playing on the team you’re going to have to get your grades up.”
Johnny Lawrence nodded as he sat across from his soccer coach.  He’d been playing for the past two years and so far had done well.  School had always been a struggle for him but he always found ways out of it or charmed his way through it.  College was different from high school and even if his stepdad helped to get him into USC Johnny was still going to have to do the work to graduate.  “I know coach.”  Johnny said reassuringly.
“Good.  We’ve actually matched you up with some tutors, both faculty and students.  This should hopefully help you and we’ll have no further issues.”
Coach Snyder handed him a paper with names on it of some professors, teaching assistants, and students.  Times were available too so he could just show up to what suited best in some cases.  “Thanks coach.”
“No problem Lawrence.  You’re one of my best and just trying to help.”
Where had he heard that before?  But Coach Snyder was nothing like Kreese.
It was hard to believe it’d almost been four years since everything that happened in West Valley.  That fall was a whirlwind of unexpected blows and changes.  Never in a million years would he have thought how drastically everything would change.  His jaw and neck still had phantom pains of that crane kick from LaRusso and what Kreese did after the tournament.   Johnny though it’d get easier with time but it was still there almost mocking him and would creep up every so often.
When he got back to his dorm he looked over the list and then noticed he spotted a name he knew.  Laurie Thompson.  That girl he went to high school with and was currently in his history class.  Obviously history was a subject listed for her but she had also put down to help students in math and science.  That’s probably why he didn’t remember her.  She was part of the smart, nerdy crowd.  Their worlds never mixed in high school.
Though looking at her now he was surprised as the girl was stunning.  Her long, dark hair perfectly curled in a way he knew most other girls he’d been with took hours to do and used god-awful amounts of hairspray to achieve.  And those green eyes of hers just drew him in.  He could tell she was shy though as it took her red-haired friend to get Laurie to talk to him, and he noticed her blushing.  So she obviously liked him, which wasn’t too much of a shock as most girls did.  Maybe she’d be a good choice as a tutor for some of his classes.
The next day after their class was over Johnny made his way over to Laurie and her friend.  They both weren’t expecting him to be there and were startled when he spoke.  “I’m sorry.”  He smiled and they giggled.  “Just wanted to ask you something Laurie.”
She looked shocked not only that he was talking to her but he remembered her name.  She turned to her friend and they shared a look before Laurie turned back to him.  “Sure.”
“I don’t know if you two know but I play on the soccer team and it was brought to my attention that I need some extra help with my classes.  They suggested some tutors and you were on the list.”  Why was that so hard to get out?  He hadn’t felt this nervous talking to a girl since Ali.
“Yeah,” her face lit up.  “I tutor other students in a few subjects.”
“Awesome, would you be willing to take me on?”  He asked.
Her smile got so wide.  “Of course.  Just let me know what free time you have and we can schedule something.  I usually use the quiet tutoring rooms at the library as it’s more private.”  She got out a piece of paper.  “Which classes are you taking besides this one?”
He told her and she wrote them down.  “Well, I can totally help you with your math and science ones.  For business there’s a great tutor who’s one of the professors.  And I’m guessing you’re good with the sports ones?”
The both laughed at that.  “Thanks so much for this.”
“You’re welcome.  What are you majoring in?”
“Sports management.” He answered.
“That makes sense.”  She then wrote something down and tore off the section of paper before handing it to him.  “That’s mine and Deb’s dorm phone number so we can schedule this.”
“Thanks.”  He looked down at it.  That was a new way to get a girl’s number.
“Bye Johnny.”  Laurie said as she and Deb got their things and took off.
“Bye.”  He said watching them and curious how this was all going to go.

Experiments (JotaDeb): My Birthday
Hello everyone, I’ve made it somewhat of a running thing so far to write a small birthday present for people (so far only  @softlimefluff mefluff and @dongiovannaswife naswife, but I hope that list grows) in the form of a letter from their F/Os. Now, since it is my birthday TODAY, this 19th of October, I have decided to have the other Kujo family members write ME a letter, so enjoy.
Also, if you’d like to send your wishes or even write me a little gift, I would not object in the slightest!
Jotaro Kujo stared aimlessly at the computer, sitting at the desk chair and struggling to even beginning moving his fingers. His wife had made it a tradition to write him a love note every birthday of his, he figured it would finally be time to return the gift and write a love note himself. However there was just one key problem. He didn’t quite have the affinity for words that his beloved did. So he decided to enlist some help.
On Jotaro’s leg sat his daughter Tamara, soundly asleep and nestled into her father’s warmth. When she found out that he would be writing a birthday note, she gushed at the romantic idea and eagerly wanted to help. Jotaro looked down to see the top of her head rest against his stomach, and he smiled softly to himself. Seeing his daughter so peaceful against him, he knew then what to write.
“Dear Deb,
We have both grown to live our lives through a series of experiments. Sure I could be referring to our jobs, where we either strive to discover cures of strive to discover the natural world, but I mean we have both lived our lives with a series of social experiments. When we first laid eyes upon each other all those years ago, rushing through our heads were series of observations of each other. For instance, you noticed my immense height, I noticed your shy smile. And within those observant moments came a rush of hypothesis within you. If I say hello, he will say hello back. If I don’t, he won’t either.
And you right about that one. I wouldn’t have, I was too scared  to say hello. But I’m glad you did.
So you said hello, and that was the first of many hypotheses to come true. Back and forth we guessed our outcomes, questioned our possibilities against each other, waiting to see which one of us would opt out. But we spend days together, weeks, months, years, and eventually I knew that you were with me for the long run. And I stopped asking questions. I stopped wondering your intentions. I just made my observations about how beautiful you are.
Deb, we have both grown to live our lives through a series of experiments. When a day goes badly, we change one variable at a time until a day goes well. Our children keep us up at night the same way we used to work late hours at the labs. We travel all over the world, studying our surrounding, making inferences, plotting points. There is no such thing as fact in science, only a series of highly plausible theories. Theories that have stood the test of time with every experiment done on them. I have a theory that we’ll be together for a long time. dear, I hope you’ll continue to experiment on it with me.
Sincerely Yours, Jojo”
Hours later, Deborah Kujo would awaken to the heavy impact of a four year old crashing on her as her son Juro leaped into her bed to wake her up. Opening her tired eyes, she looked up to see her daughter Tamara scoot next to her for a hug, her son in her lap, and her husband standing over them all, a tray of everyone’s breakfast  in hand. Before she could dig in, a letter was handed to her. Within moments a bright smile shown on her face and she lunged over to give her husband a kiss. Tamara looked at the paper all confused.
Pointing her finger, she looked up at Deborah and asked, “What does this word say?”
“That says experiments dear?”
“What’s that?”
“It’s when you test something important.”
Juro shook his head violently at those words. “No no! I hate tests! I hate em!”
Jotaro and Deborah shared a chuckle, watching as their kids began to dig into their meal. Deb turned to her husband.
“I didn’t know you were capable of writing some like that.”
Jotaro shrugged. “I have my ways. Maybe you’ve rubbed off on me.”

i would love it if u told us what pop songs u would assign to various twilight characters or scenes in the books/movies, since the soundtracks have a vendetta against the genre, pls
ok i sat on this ask for a LONG ass time but here’s what i got
my pop opinion: if twilight didn’t neglect the pop genre (and wasn’t allergic to artists of color) ✨
(this is based on vibes obvi, not necessarily lyrics)
bella and edward when they first got together [ideally this montage would be a lot cuter and less awkward but you know]: charli xcx // grins | banks // fuck em only we know | sky ferreira // heavy metal heart
bella in new moon calling jessica and going to the movies with her: allie x // regulars
eclipse final scene / credits: allie x // learning in public
the bella and jacob garage montage in new moon: ariana grande // sometimes | rosalía // pienso en tu mirá [ideally it would be closer to the end of the song and get really sad when she’s reminded of edward]
playing during the prom in twilight or at the graduation party in eclipse: tinashe // save room for us | charli xcx // february 2017 (ft. clairo and yaeji) | kaytranada // worst in me (ft. tinashe)
bella and edward fucking as vampires for the first time and she had that Sparkly OrgasmTM: cashmere cat // adore (ft. ariana grande)
bella showing edward her Thots for the first time, playing instead of “a th**sand y**rs”: allie x // science
bella driving to jacob’s house for the first time in new moon: fka twigs // sad day
beginning of eclipse where bella’s calling up jacob and he’s sending her to voicemail: tinashe // feelings | tommy genesis // it’s okay | tove lo // come undone | banks // contaminated
jacob and bella dancing at the wedding reception: rina sawayama // bad friend | banks // contaminated [this would be SO sad tho]
some wedding reception music: chloe x halle // ungodly hour | rihanna // diamonds | victoria monét // experience (ft. khalid and sg lewis)
post-battle, post-volturi leaving, playing instead of “speak up” by pop etc: charli xcx // forever
bella and jacob on his motorcycle in eclipse on their way to emily’s house, playing softly in the background during the “I wish bella would call / I wish bella WOULDNT call bit”: tommy genesis // you know me
bella and edward’s first dance at their wedding: little mix // monster in me
bella saying goodbye to jacob at the end of eclipse and crying in her truck afterward; this would have a satellite heart moment where it’s playing but then it sounds like it’s on the radio so when she turns her truck off the song stops: banks // if we were made of water
bella as a newborn in a fun lil montage: banks // underdog
new moon depression montage but dark as fuck, maybe showing bella clawing out her radio: sky ferreira // night time, my time
that super sad part in breaking dawn part 2 where bella thought everyone was gonna fuckin die so she was packing up hella money and shit: tinashe // sunburn
leah in breaking dawn: deb never // same | jorja smith // where did I go? | nelly furtado // turn off the light
and of course, alice stealing that porsche in italy, hella speeding: charli xcx // vroom vroom

Chapter Ninety
After fourteen hours of slogging through the ship that is now her sister, Debbie finally caves to the nagging of her body. Her eyes are red and puffy from crying and staring at data screens, her knuckles scraped raw from pulling panels off of systems she didn't know existed, most of her fingernails broken to the quick. Her back aches, her legs cramped from crouching and folding them under her, the toes of her boots peeling back from the steel and her toes aching from kicking so many metal objects.
“Get the Doc out of here, too,” Rachel snarls. “When I say bedtime, that means bedtime for everyone. THAT MEANS ALL OF YOU, STOP DOING THE PINGING THING! Sorry, Debs, that was for the...for my...fuck. What do I even call them? I called the girls goobers because they always had snot everywhere, and it was an alliteration with girls, and I just...STOP. PINGING. ME. I SAID I WOULD LOOK AT IT LATER. PING-PONG BALLS, THAT’S WHAT YOU ARE! Child of mine, if you send the same info packet to me one more time, I will make you scrub every floor in this place. Manually. With a toothbrush. Do you understand? Thank you. Okay. Anyway. Debs, get him off the monitor, go to bed, we’ll deal with all of this after a solid eight hour rest cycle. Okay?”
“Doc, you heard her,” Debbie says, scooping Bix up with both arms and toting him out of the engine room, one fist scrunched around the loose skin of his neck as he tries to claw his way over her shoulder.
“Science!” Bix screeches, tail thrashing against her legs.
“You have zero self-control,” Debbie says idley as she opens the door to the room she’s claimed for her own.
“I didn’t lose my medical license for imbibing copious amounts of chemicals.” The doctor says as she dumps his limp body on her bed.
“Uh-huh,” Debbie says, rummaging in the yet-unexpored draws for a heating pad. “So how did it happen, then?”
“Gambling debts. That private hospital, just outside the city. Worked there. Up in the third dome, filthy rich. Patients. Dirty money. Didn’t care how I spent it. Felt better to lose it all then keep it.”
“Yeah, that’s how most addictions work,” Debbie agrees, brandishing the handwarmer packets she managed to find.
“I gambled away my medical equipment.”
Debbie turns to look at him, his claws tucked under his chest and his eyes half-lidded. His tongue flicks out once, a little pink line against the blue of his body and the grey of her blankets.
“Did you ever let anyone die, on purpose?”
“Only when they made me. It happened a lot. After. No license, no job, but you still know things. Mobs don’t care if you’re licensed. Black market, black soul. Humans believe in souls?”
“Yeah, babe, we believe in souls.” Debbie breaks the handwarmers open, and tucks them into her socks, around Bix’s feet and tail. She crawls into the bed, curling her body around him so that he’s tucked against her stomach.
“I didn’t want to,” Bix slurs, turning his head so that his nostrils are pressed against her collar bones. “Never wanted. Just. Hurts. If you do. And they hurt you more, if you don’t.”
“Doc,” Debbie breaths, already half asleep. “If anyone ever touches you again, I’ll rip their arm off and beat ‘em with it. You’re mine. Ours. You’re family.”
“I wanna document this. For papers. Research. Humans are so weird.”
“Kay.”
Debbie can feel the dark undertow of sleep, pulling her under like a drowning victim, blackness and warmth creeping over her like a dreadful, welcome tide.
When she wakes in the morning, she remembers her promise - and the miles to go before she keeps it.

“I think the whole rock’n’roll thing of ‘Yeah! We must go out and bed lots of groupies and get shit-faced!’ stinks!” (Well, Why do it?-Ed)
New Musical Express 10th December 1988, Page 10 - DREAM DEMONS
From sub-Birthday Party clanking to acid fuzz-pop and now on to intense guitar aggression MY BLOODY VALENTINE have become the Noise Chameleons of the 80s. JACK BARRON dives into their slipstream and discovers that the boiling young bloods are the head of a particularly ominous sonic scab that’s surely about to burst. STEPHEN SPELLER provides the oxy.
The journalist, immobilised by a massive student demonstration in Central London, is late. A couple of miles up the road in a Kentish Town bar My Bloody Valentine are getting restless.
The band’s songwriter, frazzle-haired Kevin Shields, absent-mindedly pulls at the crater-sized hole in his jumper. For a minute his mind wanders to his favourite drug - sex - before discarding the thought in favour of his second drug of choice: vegetating.
Bilinda Butcher, who once studied dance at the Laban School before quitting to take up slipstream guitar, looks at her watch and says to bassist Deb Googe: “If the bloke doesn’t turn up soon I’ll have to go.” Meanwhile, Dublin born drumer, Colm O’Ciosoig, who if you look at him through squinted eyes bears a resemblance to Animal out of The Muppets, is recalling one of his favourite dreams.
Has a lot of dreams does Colm, they’re so vivid and fantastical he’d like to turn them into films one day. This afternoon he’s remembering his Apocalypse dream. It occurs two days before a nuclear war in Ireland. Mass confusiong reigns. In the melée Colm meets a girl and falls in love with her.
Inspired, the drummer hot-wires her family’s Rolls Royce and is then chased by government spies who believe he has committed treason.
The pursuit ends in a park by the edge of a cliff. On the green a Bacchanalian pre-Apocalypse party is going on the likes of which would make the local village priest blush if he hadn’t already disrobed his cassock and been making love to a nun nodding out on a heroin jag.
A nude posse is formed to capture the traitorous drummer who flees to the lip of the cliff. With certain death before him and eternal damnation behind him Colm calmy steps over the edge...
Drugs... Sex... Dreams...
The door of The Assembly Rooms pub slams, jerking Colm out of his reverie. The noisy intruder has the hassled demeanour of a journalist very late for an appointment. Colm, the lyricist of the firebrand song ‘(When You Wake) You’re Still In A Dream’ on My Bloody Valentine’s splendid new album, ‘Isn’t Anything’, lights a cigarette - his second favourite drug - and readies himself for the interview.
The journalist makes amends for his tardiness by heading for the pumps. As the pints are pulled he’s still amazed by the demo he sat through for an hour and a half. The ‘80s thus far has been noticeable for complete agitational apathy on the part of students. Now, though, there are Young Bloods exploding with energy and anger on the street of the capital... and it isn’t just confined to protest demos.
Young Bloods are rattling the style bars of rock music in Britain. Until recently, with the exception of The Mary Chain, the guitar might as well, in these isles, have been a hairdryer. For a number of years it has been American bands that have made all the running and found fresh ways to reinvent the trad instrument. You know these people well enough: Sonic Youth, Hüsker Dü, Swans, Dinosaur Jr, et al.
During the course of 1988, however, it has become increasingly apparent that the American noisecore brutalists have had a knock-on effect in Britain. Every week brings a Young Blood band to light that has tapped into the attitude of aggressive psychoto-delic invention pioneered by the Americans. Some we have already told you about: Loop, Spacemen 3, AC Temple, Head Of David and Playground, while others such as God, You Make My Flesh Crawl, and Godflesh are in the wings, waiting to be discovered.
The unexpected King Kongs in this pit of guitar gurus have ironically turned out to be the once-fey wraiths of indie pop, My Bloody Valentine. Their new album, ‘Isn’t Anything’, is colossal. Surging with mutant guitar tones that come from completely unconventional technique, and dappled with disembodied vocals, the record’s song structures are the aural equivalent of a bendy toy with switchblades for teeth, or The Elephant Man looking at himself in a hall of distorted mirrors.
Whether euphoric - as in the gorgeous ‘No More Sorry’ - or skin-flaying like ‘Feed Me With Your Kiss’, the compositions all verge on those moments when psychoses give way to hallucinations. Or, in the blunt vernacular of the publicist, “That LP! It does yer head in.” And for once he isn’t lying.
Besides sartorial scruffiness and mutually acknowledged idols such as The Stooges and The Velvets,, what My Bloody Valentine and the Young Bloods further have in common with America’s sonic brutalists is the the f---the-max guitarpower is allied to introverted and reflective lyrics.
There are no messages, manifestos or instructions to be heard. Instead, these band’s look at their world, through occasionally dilated pupils and report back, obscurely and absurdly.
There are of course exceptions to this. Spacemen 3 have stopped trying to drag their brains out of their nostrils and now exhort and need for ‘Revolution’ on their forthcoming single. In the main, though, inner space, changing states of mind, and emotional turmoil predominate lyrically. And with, as I’ve explained, sex being the number one drug of My Bloody Valentine’s principle songwriter, Kevin Shields, it is hardly surprising that in amongst tunes dealing with suicide (’Sueistine’) and disorientation (’I Can See It But I Can’t Feel It’) there are five songs left on the ‘Isn’t Anything’ album about bonking. You’d be hard-pressed though to name them all, such is the opaqueness of the lyrics.
The tape is switched on in the pub just in time for Bilinda to say “Hello-Goodbye.”
When I tell the remaining three MBVs that their new music has come as a very pleasant shock, especially as I gave up listening to them several years ago following the saccarine ‘Sunny Sundae Smile’ pop affair, they fill in the cracks in my knowledge.
“You know there have been about four different My Bloody Valentines,” says Kevin. “When Colm and I started out in Dublin years ago we were determined not to do anything that wasn’t totally original. So we messed around with excruciating noises.”
“We wanted the next act to be along the lines of The Butthole Surfers.”, continues the drummer. “using tapes to make a total noise that would offend people. So we came up with original music. The only problem was it was boring!”
“Boring” is the most frequently used description by MBV this afternoon. It’s the litmus test they have used on their own music during their career: if it’s a snore, pack it in and find a new format. Which is exactly what they’d done when I caught an earful of the tepid wax of the early singles they released on Lazy, the label owned by the manager of The Primitives’ fly-guy Wayne Norris.
At the time, 1986/7, the Valentines forsook their noiseome experiments, which had got them labelled as Birthday Party rip-offs in Ireland, and became obsessed with coining perfect pop songs with sick lyrics.
“More than anything that was the obsession of our singer at the time, Dave.” says Kevin. “Dave now writes novels, science fiction and horror, thought he hasn’t had any published yet. The idea of composing a sweet pop song that sugar-coated some lyrical horror and sending it hurling up the charts appealed to our sense of humour. Also it was fresh after having made pure noise earlier.”
Lazy Wayne, ever the hustler, hoped to make the Valentines bona fide starts. The band had their own ideas, however, while critics were trying to squeeze them into pigeonholes like “a garage band” or “a legacy of the C86 shamblies”, neither of which fitted.
“Wayne used to tell me all the things we should do to be more professional,” says Kevin. “He said we had to make a commitment to him if we wanted to get on and off the dole. We just couldn’t agree with what he said though. We didn’t want to end up as a second rate Primitives. That was the last thing on our minds.”
Gradually it seemed that My Bloody Valentine were slipping not just into the second division but the Isthmian League of the indie scene. Their first album, ‘Ecstasy’, for example was deleted after a pressing of a mere 2,000 records. Critics and fans still failed to appreciate the evil lyrics behind the pretty song titles. The joke hadn’t worked because few people actually caught on as to what MBV were about.
“Once we’d mastered the art of writing snappy pop songs with our eyes and ears closed,” continues Kevin, “the whole project started to become boring as hell. And we reached a stage at the beginning of last year where we thought there wasn’t much point carrying on any more. Then a couple of things happened. Dave, our singer, left and with him to a certain extent this obsessive pop thing and also Creation Records expressed an interest in us.”
Home of powder-fluff cute pop, Creation wanted the Valentines for the very same lightweight songwriting the band had grown annoyed with. To his credit, Alan McGee allowed the group to forge ahead as they wanted, without restrictions, an act of faith that soon paid off with the remarkable ‘You Made Me Realise’ and ‘Feed Me With Your Kiss’ tinderboxes whose flashfire textures burned MBV’s once dodgy reputation down to a hard cinder. The latest album is a culmination of the band’s ethic of progress-via-boredom.
While MBV admit they have always been big fans of Sonic Youth, Big Black and so on, and that the Americans in turn have had a knock-on influence of the Young Bloods of Britain, pinning down exactly what makes it very distinct, on the face of it, bands gravitate together proves difficult.
“If there is a similarity it would be the one of attitude,” reckons Kevin, “The people involved don’t have any respect for the ‘correct’ way of playing the guitar but are more interested in getting new sounds out whichever way they can.
“It’s an indulgence, yes, but I think it’s important to go along with your whims. Calculation never makes for originality, it’s just limiting. Most originals are original because they have been individuals willing to follow their whims and not because they have formulated some incredibly original idea. But remember, people have been making a loud racket with guitars for years, so it’s not a revolutionary thing.”
Drug use may be prevalent among some of the groups mentioned here - the Valentines have often been linked with acid - but that, as Kevin points out, doesn’t account for the trajectory of the band’s music: “I don’t think weird music is the product of drugs distancing musicians from reality. After all, there are a million and one bands who take drugs and still play shit-horrible music.”
“If I was to try and make music that was acid-influenced it would be pretty unlistenable: it would be very fast for a start, I could only imagine taking one song and repeating it 30 times in three minutes. Maybe that’s because the acid nowadays is low on hallucinations and high on speed, compared to the ‘60s.”
If tabs aren’t the catalysts for the current monstrous waves of psychoto-delia the source for the approach of the Young Bloods must like elsewhere. And Kevin believes he knows where.
“An important ingredient that links the best bands around now is that for them 1976 and ‘77 aren’t musically relevant years,” he says. “That’s because the actual music punk bands made was really nothing compared to what came out of the ‘60s. Punk was very formularised. What it had going for it was the attitude and excitement.”
