Exactly 10 years ago, Namco Bandai Games discontinued @shiftylook (Shiftylook), a subsidiary that focused on reviving retro Namco IP, ranging from Bravoman or Mappy into a variety either in anime, comics and webtoons, as well as providing conventions and exhibitions.

I consider myself to be a vampire weekend fan, and after listening to the two songs available from their new album “Only God Was Above Us” for the first time, here are my initial thoughts:

the signature lyrics are still there, as well as the unfiltered, raw production that father of the bride brought us. the vampire weekend classic strings do make an appearance, and while father of the bride had an underproduced, almost natural sound, the songs made available to us in this album almost have a punk like edge. the drums are definitely much stronger, and there is a that crunchyness to the music that is common in the punk genre, but we haven’t really seen before from vampire weekend. while the lyrics are more similar to father of the bride then the bands earlier work, the two songs out so far offer a promising look at this new era of vampire weekend.
