“In greater numbers than ever, children hollowed up by hunger are overwhelming the Patient’s Friends Hospital, the main emergency center for malnourished kids in northern Gaza.

The deaths last weekend also marked a change: the first seen by the center in children who had no preexisting conditions. Symptoms are getting worse, with children too weak to cry or move, said Dr. Rana Soboh, a nutritionist. In past months, most improved, despite supply shortages, but now patients stay longer and don’t get better, she said.

“There are no words in the face of the disaster we are in. Kids are dying before the world ... There is no uglier and more horrible phase than this,” said Soboh, who works with the U.S.-based aid organization Medglobal, which supports the hospital.”

Dahnoun is run entirely by volunteers and led by Gazawis inside and outside of Gaza. 100% of funds raised go directly to our teams on the ground. We work with a tight circle of long term partners in Gaza who carry out all distribution efforts. We also work with a growing network of volunteers to mobilize resources. We operate primarily through large scale community distribution efforts. These efforts are funded via direct wire transfers to our organizers on the ground. When possible, we respond to individual families' requests for resources via direct wire transfer to families themselves or to an organizer that can deliver funds in person. We vet families as they reach out to us through trusted family and friends in Gaza, including in-person visits when possible.

This is another grassroots initiative run by Gazans that is in dire need of financial support. Please consider supporting them as well.

what can we even do now? i mean this seriously, i've been donating every month, i've boosted, i've tried to share the truth, but it just doesn't stop. what can we do? this is madness it's always been madness, it's inhumane, it's demonic. how can we save them?

you keep doing it. i know it's tough because what you're doing is long-term work in a short-term emergency. but it matters regardless. now is not the time to stop anything, it's the time to do as much as you can. i shared this screenshot before, but here it is again:

there has to be big international pressure. you are part of this. israel has spent 75 years becoming as resilient as possible to big international pressure. it takes an international outcry to let in a paltry can of baby formula. but without you doing what you've been doing, there won't be the pressure even for that. and i know you feel like you've been as present as possible, but actually i have noticed many people clocking out of thinking about palestine. i used to get 30, 40, 50k notes on posts about palestine. now i get around ten times less even though arguably far less people defend what israel is doing. that's less pressure on israel, and this is easy goals. bring those people back. keep palestine the topic of conversation.

so anything you do now to increase pressure is the most important thing you'll do today. and for everyone else reading this, don't forget to donate to the sameer project.

Something wonderful about my relationship with my wife @cannilyuncanny is that we both have a deep love of cooking. I'm someone who likes to "measure with my heart" rather than follow recipes, so I do a lot of improvised cooking. My wife is very precise and likes to measure and follow recipes, so she is the one who does the baking.

She has learned to make foccacia, pita, and no-knead bread. A couple of years ago she received a sourdough started from a friend and made potato kulchas with it. One thing that she loves about this is that humans have been bread-making for over 30,000 years, and so making bread connects her to her ancestors and to people all over the world.

People in Gaza are being denied access to these simple, fundamental ingredients to make bread, to nourish their bodies and spirits, and it breaks our hearts. The Israeli government, with the support of the United States, blocks vital food aid from reaching the Gaza Strip. This has led to extreme price inflation for the little food that remains in the markets. The only alternative to paying these elevated food prices is to go to Israeli-US controlled food sites that function to draw in large numbers of starving people past Israeli snipers where they can be massacred. Hundreds of people have been killed this way.
