I'm still too distracted to write so here have a list of YJ-cast centric fics that make me froth at the mouth

Kon-centric recs:

I Want It That Way (1990s Tim/Kon) by WynterSky / @wynterstars -- A revamped, 90s-style Superboy origin story with added Lex Luthor AND a lil bit of 90s Robin for spice and flavor. Honestly, this whole series is so elite -- goes hard with the Superboy mythos + angst PLUS the third fic leans hard into the secret identity shenanigans in a way that'd make Miraculous Ladybug jealous. The first fic splits its attention between Tim and Kon, but the latter two are solidly Kon-centric

one plus one (easy math) by connerdrakewayne / @comphetkoncass -- Cassandra Cain and Kon go to a gala together. I'm always a sucker for a good Cass + Kon friendship. This one's very short and sweet, and it gets the job done -- 10/10 would read again

a timeline can be a haunted house by connerdrakewayne -- post-universal reset Kon angst + terrible coping mechanisms! This one goes so hard I read it three times. Tbh this author has an excellent handle on Kon as a character in general, so I honestly recommend just checking out their whole fic stash

Tim-centric recs:

Top 10 Secret Identity Fails by @havendance -- Tim's new English teacher is his on-again-off-again superhero teamup Helena Bertinelli (aka the Huntress). This one's just fun, okay -- the whole thing reads like it could be straight out of Tim's 1993 solo run, plus I love the dynamic between him and Helena. Overall just a very cool vibe

only the dead stay 17 forever by Sky_Dust (couldn't find their tumblr sorry) -- Listen, I've really been restraining myself here, because I realize my love for time-travel bullshit is not universal, but I genuinely couldn't not include this one. This bad boy is a Tim-centric time-loop featuring a seriously unhinged Tim -- definitely a darker tone, but I can't stop rereading it

Bart-centric recs:

reflections on respawning: a gamer's uncertainty by merils / @mamawasatesttube -- Bart has a hard conversation about his death and subsequent resurrection (feat. Kon) man, I just vibe with this one so hard. It's such a thoughtful take on Bart's more contemplative side, while still managing to keep his personality intact

the backlash to the backlash to the thing that's just begun by @kermit-coded -- trans/gnc impulse my beloved <3 also we get some funky Max & Bart bonding, made much rawer and more real by the fact that it's the 90s and nobody knows what they're doing. Again, feels like it's straight out of Bart's solo series

Cassie-centric recs:

you and I, we are more than just this armor by @suzukiblu -- KonCassie bonding + gender feels. They're both so trans in this, and the author does a great job of really digging deep into their complicated feelings (both about gender and about each other)

Team recs

I'm all yours but you're all mine by suzukiblu -- Poly Core 4 Soulmates AU! Essentially, everybody gets their 'soulmark'/soulmate-identifier (not really, but the best word) right when Kon wakes up in his pod, and because Superboy hasn't really made his big splash yet, they misidentify their soulmate as Superman; this is an issue mainly because 1) they're all 14-15 and Superman is roughly 30-ish, and 2) by the time this fic takes place, Superman is pretty verifiably dead. Currently in-progress, but this is such an interesting and fun take on the usual soulmates trope. I pinky promise you won't regret reading it

Love, Not Loved series by @popsunner -- hoooomygod this series makes me cry literally every time I read it, it's genuinely one of the most realistic representations of grief I've seen on AO3. Basically explores the general fucked-up-edness of pretty much the whole YJ Core 4 Squad dying one by one, with each fic focusing on a different funeral (complete with survivor's guilt, regular guilt, and just plain old complicated feelings). We get Cassie feels, we get Tim feels, we get Bart + Kon feels -- it's the whole shebang. Don't worry -- there's a happy ending eventually, but you def gotta work for it. This series beat me up and stole my lunch money and I'd happily do it all over again

Lost the Last Piece of Me by InsaneTrollLogic / @last01standing -- YJ Core 4 Animorphs AU! I'm sad to say I've never read the original Animorphs series, but every single Animorphs AU I've ever read has been such high quality. Unsurprisingly (I love this author, okay), this fic is no exception to that rule. Solid alien-invasion plot, character driven, and the world-building is explained well enough that even a newbie like me can understand (feat. some TimKon, but it's not the main focus)

Ikonoclast by anantipodean (couldn't find a tumblr) -- Tim and Kon get sent to an alternate reality that's almost (but not quite) like their own. This one's just fun for me -- I love the TimBart buildup and the worldbuilding on the other Earth is a funky time. Also, the other universe's Tim is goth and absolutely cannot stand mainstream-reality Tim, and I find that extremely funny for some reason

What is the gameplay like on Gotham Knights? I have poor coordination so I have trouble with anything more complex than LOZ: Ocarina of Time. Like, on a scale of Pokémon->Dragon Age->LOZ->Dark Souls?

It's a bit clunky like Dragon Age 2, tbh. Except it doesn't have the excuse of coming out in 2011. The mechanics and camera controls are one of the things that let it down a lot, IMO.

I’m constantly getting stuck on walls and the edge of ledges because the controls feel laggy and the game’s not consistent about which surfaces you can climb and which ones you need to grapple. It's fine if you’re fighting in more open spaces but it turns the timed events into an exercise in frustration. Not to mention the number of times it feels like I’ve taken damage through an obstacle from enemy ranged attacks when my own ranged attacks bounce off invisible walls if I’m not standing in the exact spot the game needs me to be in. This results in me just key smashing melee a lot until every around me stops twitching.

I’m still enjoying it, but it is v. glitchy and I understand why people are leaving angry reviews. Especially if they are deeply committed to the immersive elements and were expecting the same level of polish from the Arkham games, which this studio also made.

I’m just casual enough a gamer that I’m enjoying muttering “parkour” to myself as I accidentally fall off buildings and plumet to my death because my graple hook glitched out and went the exact opposite way I’d been aiming.

I’m really just playing it for the characters. It feels like playing a a game written by people who understand the appeal of found family that went hard on the campier elements of the franchise while still maintaining a decent level of aching sadness for the tragedy they’ve endured.

You can feel the group fracturing under the weight of Bruce’s death with Dick doing everything he can to fill the void and stay positive and “normal” for the sake of everyone around him, including Alfred who is devastated but also trying to keep it together. Barbara, mourning an extra loss, is trying so hard to stay level headed and useful for Dick. Being both Oracle and Batgirl while also acting like a fun big sister to Tim who stands out as really young in this iteration.

Sure he’s a kid genius, but he’s also only 16 with a monumental caffeine addiction (you can’t tell me all the energy drinks on the shopping list pinned to the fridge aren’t for him) and mourning the loss of Bruce while also just wanting to do normal teenage shit, like asking the group for help with his art homework and being annoyed that his role as Robin is keeping him from spending time with his online boyfriend.

Jay is very raw and angry and obviously processing his own trauma on top of everything that just happened but even he steps up, trying to be there for Tim, teaming up with Babs to gently pick on Dick when he’s being particularly Boy Wonder-ish. Seeing him stress cook is also a nice added touch as are the photos of him and Bruce working on stuff. Bonding.

Which is another thing I Love. From what we see of him, Bruce is in his absolute DILF element in flashbacks and in recordings. All sad smiles and a gentle, head-shaking tolerance for the absolute ribbing the kids put him through for being too serious and neglecting himself. Not to mention all the pictures of him with Dick and Tim and Jason. And so many of him and Alfred and Ace. (The one on the fridge of him and Alfred showing them adopting Dick at the courthouse almost killed me. They all looked so young and happy.)

I’m getting serious “Bruce is a good dad with a warped sense of humor who hugs his kids and spends quality time with them, actually, and you’re wrong if you write him otherwise” fanon vibes, and that's honestly my favorite Bruce.

It’s basically appealing to everything I love about the franchise while scratching an itch in my brain the way crackfic taken seriously does.

And that’s enough to make me forgive the bad controls and glitches. But I could see it not being enough for some people, especially if you’ve already got poor hand eye coordination. Which I do. But again, I don’t really care about being good at games. I’m just dicking around and having fun wringing dopamine out of the narrative.

The Devil's Plan

Sejujurnya tidak ada ekspektasi berlebih saat melihat unggahan seorang rekan yang menampilkan sebuah game variety show yang tersedia di platform ott berwarna merah, sampai akhirnya gue menyaksikan sendiri acara tersebut dan yah, jadinya susah move on.

The Devil’s Plan adalah sebuah permainan survival asal Korea Selatan yang terdiri dari 12 pemain. Kedua belas orang ini tinggal bersama selama seminggu untuk memecahkan permainan yang membutuhkan logika berpikir dan strategi yang tepat. Bidak adalah instrumen penting dalam permainan ini, karena dalam setiap permainan para pemain diharapkan mampu mengumpulkan bidak sebanyak-banyaknya. Jika melakukan kesalahan maka pengurangan bidak pun tidak dapat dihindari. Tak hanya bidak, dalam permainan ini juga ada ‘penjara’ yang diperuntukan bagi pemain yang mempunyai bidak paling sedikit.

Namanya juga permainan, maka akan ada yang kalah dan yang menang. Hadiah maksimal yang akan diterima oleh pemenang adalah 500.000 juta won, jika para pemain mampu menyelesaikan permainan berhadiah. Sedangkan yang kalah akan tereliminasi dan mengemas barang miliknya dari rumah tinggal bersama.

Variety show ini terdiri dari 12 episode, dan untunglah saat gue melihat varshow ini episodenya udah lengkap alias udah selesai, jadi gak perlu penasaran untuk menunggu kelanjutannya setiap minggu. Pada episode pertama, dijelaskan bagaimana aturan main dari the devil’s plan dan dijelaskan secara singkat profile para pemain. Berhubung gue kenalnya hanya Ha Seok Jin, maka sedari awal dukungan gue ada padanya. Namun bukan berarti gue gak mendukung pemain lainnya, hanya saja pemain yang gue dukung tereliminasi dibabak-babak awal, hikss.

Permainan dalam acara ini pada dasarnya tidak hanya diformulasikan untuk mengandalkan kemampuan individu setiap pemainnya, tapi ada masa saat permainan berhadiah, dibutuhkan kerjasama tim dari masing-masing pemain untuk mengamankan hadiah uang tunai agar hadiah maksimalnya tidak berkurang. Cuma yah namanya permainan kan gak mungkin juga semua pemain ‘lemah’ diselamatkan dalam aliansi yang diciptakan oleh salah seorang pemain.

TBH, ketika menonton ini dan ada istilah aliansi gue membatin “lah kok yah kerjasama sih mainnya, buat tim-tim gitu, gak yakin sama kemampuan diri sendiri?” Apalagi ada moment ketika salah satu favorit gue yang ‘dikhianati’ karena si penghianat memberitahukan angka pemain favorit gue ke ‘pemimpin’ aliansi itu. Gedek gue pas nontonnya. Mana si penghianatnya pake nangis segala lagi pas orang-orang yang dia khianati tereliminasi. Gue be like “Ya elahhh, kan lu yang buat mereka gagal, kenapa mesti nangis segala. Drama”

Dari beberapa permainan yang mereka mainkan, gue paling bisa ikutan menjawab pada saat game susun kata dengan tema-tema tertentu. Kata yang mereka temukan lalu disusun secara vertikal. Game menyatukan puzzle sebuah gambar juga gue paham aturan permainannya, cuma pas liat waktu pengerjaannya yang super kilat kayaknya gue juga kalau ada di posisi itu yang ada malah gemetaran dan gak bisa fokus. Lalu ada juga game yang membutuhkan kemampuan hapalan tingkat tinggi dari setiap detail gambar yang ditampilkan. Dalam game ini gue angkat topi untuk penampilan seorang pemain yang menyapu bersih pertanyaannya dan membuat jumlah hadiah bertambah 100 juta atau 50 juta won gitu.

Permainan ‘rendah-tinggi’ yang dibuat berdasarkan persamaan matematika pun gue paham aturan mainnya, cuma pas mereka hitung dan menyusun persamaannya dalam tempo sesingkat-singkatnya gue berpikir “kalau gue yang di sana, pake kalkulator aja biar cepat.”

Tak melulu soal hapalan dan angka, dalam acara ini juga diperlukan strategi yang tepat dan efisien untuk menjadi pemenangnya. Makanya ada yang berpendapat untuk membentuk aliansi saja, padahal bisa jadi aliansi yang diciptakan itu seyogyanya rasa insecure si pencetus biar saingan yang dia anggap berpotensi bisa dia eliminasi lebih dulu dengan bantuan aliansinya tersebut.

Pengamatan yang jeli juga dibutuhkan untuk dapat bertahan sampai babak final dalam permainan ini. Mengamati mana partner yang beneran tulus ingin bekerja sama atau manipulatif semata. Serta memperhatikan tiap benda yang ada disekitar, mana tau ada yang menjadi kunci jawaban untuk permainan selanjutnya.

Overall, gue suka banget sama variety show ini selain 2 days 1 night nya Mas Seon Ho haha.

Kalau di 2 day 1 nights, gue bisa puas ngakak ngeliat tingkah pola ngang-ngong dan polos-polos bego kadang pinter juga sih Seon Ho. Kalau The Devil’s Plan memicu otak gue untuk berpikir dan mencari strategi yang win-win solution ditambah asupan visual yang buat rasa charming gue ke pemuda pintar berkacamata naik berkali-kali lipat, hahaha..

tim - we barely see any of him but i believe this man is pure chaos when it comes to video games. he picks the most random options and will do “asshole pacifist” routes. that being said, he loves jevil and papyrus

eugene - the obvious answer is clearly alphys or toriel, since their both teachers, but his all time favorite is sans. he secretly loves puns and bad jokes, and the character on sans is great for him to analyze. (he def analyzes characters and makes theories all the time)

kat - this hashtag girlboss loves the other hashtag girlboss. she loves undyne and susie so much and wants to be as badass as them.

rory - this little shit loves lancer so much. he will point to lancer and ralsei interacting and go “that’s us” to kat, who will try to punch him

wendy - ralsei. she feels like ralsei having to deal with jason and kevin all the time. she also wants to hug him and pet him because he looks very soft

julie - the queen. totally. similar to alex, in quoting her randomly, but also because of the chaotic energy that just sort of vibrates off the queen. she likes it.

kevin - unironically likes berdely (burghley? birdlee? berdley?) he usually says he’s the best character to piss off wendy

jason - i feel like c round. he thinks c round is adorable and can do no wrong (even though he died to c round like 3 times)

lewis - susie. he loves how badass and cool she is. he did die to undyne in undertale a lot though.

What do you think of the latest Gotham Knights trailer so far? Can either be from a character/ story perspective or gamer perspective (if you play video games)

Personally I'm not too optimistic about it but I'll withhold judgment until I actually get to play the game. So far I'm not satisfied with the character designs (jason :(( and tim doesnt really look like tim), gaming mechanics (kinda clunky) and some of the voice lines are weird?

Tbh it feels and looks like a gta mod.

Storywise the trailer didn't really go into it so I have nothing to comment on that so far. It's its own universe so I'll try to be openminded.

It seems rushed, probably due to the pandemic. I'll try to be excited for it. It's still a game with some of my most favorite characters ever!

The Court of Owls is a fun storyline to play with. Can't help but wonder if Bruce is just deliriously wandering around the Court's maze during all of this instead of actually being dead. I also wonder if William Cobb is going to show up at some point.

I do agree with what some other people are saying about Jason's mystical jump being kind of stupid. The Lazarus Pit didn't give him special powers or anything like that. They pulled that out of their asses because they couldn't think of a better tool for him to use to get around.

I agree with you about the character designs and some of the "clunkiness." Jason looks way too old for one thing. I'm okay with him being a big beefcake, but it seems like that aspect keeps him from engaging in as much hand-to-hand combat.

I definitely like Dick's acrobatic fighting style and how he's flipping all over the place. It makes him fun to watch. The fact that he can shoot ice out of his escrimas is strange though. It would make more sense to Pikachu-fy him and just have him shoot out big bursts of electricity from his escrimas. (Actually, maybe they did show him using electrified escrimas and I glazed over that fact. Can't remember.)

I won't be playing this game because I'm not a big gamer and I also don't have a console to play it on lmao. But I hope it's better than you're expecting and that you have fun playing it!

1. Elias - Instead of doing work in his office all day he is getting tilted at the towers and getting into fights with twelve year olds. It doesnt do anything to feed the eye but he lives for drama

2. Tim - Tim played for fun and then when s3 rolled around and he was in crisis mode he just sat in the archives playing fortnite instead of doing his work. Poggers

3. Melanie - Played it ironically at first but tbh playing fortnite is a great way to feed the slaughter imo. She and Tim would play in pairs sometimes and they were a menace

4. Daisy - Doesn't play a lot but post-buried she is trying New Things and i guess fortnite is one of them.

5. Sasha - played for fun with Tim before things got Bad but didn't play on her own.

6. Basira - has played fortnite one (1) time, got victory royale, never played again

7. Martin - just doesnt seem like the battle royale type to me like if he's gonna play anything it's either a dating sim or dark souls with no in between

I think that I would halt myself from ever trying to pretend to be someone who I’m not? Also I would tell myself to be kind and open minded. Also just give myself the heads up that I’m queer.

I’m not a big gamer, but I LOVE playing them! Right now, I’ve been playing Dragon Age Inquisition, and I’ve been playing a lot of Stardew Valley recently! Life is Strange and the Uncharted series will always have a special place in my heart though

Omg could I get a matchup please? My favourite movies are pride and prejudice (2005), moulin rouge, and big fish. Idk if u also want a description?? I’m a tiny (5’ and petite 😭) athletic bi gamer girl with a huge weakness for romance, fashion, and anything beautiful tbh. SUCH GREAT MOVIES AHHH (I really need to watch Moulin Rouge, I love Big Fish so much, I really think it’s one of Tim Burton’s best works AHH ENOUGH GUSHING) And thank you so much dear <3 From the movies you named, they are all very stylish with stunning art direction. There’s also something delicate about the movies you mentioned... Part 1: Erina Pendleton!!! The most beautiful girlfriends in all of England. Erina’s sweet and loving temperament. Soft girlfriends who will undoubtedly fight any assholes who dare get in their ways. I see Erina as more of a homebody so you are the one who gets her out of her shell. You have lovely picnics by the river and no one bats an eye when you girls walk arm in arm around town shopping for cute clothes. 

Part 2: Lisa Lisa. You said wine and fashion and immediately my thoughts jump to Ms. Lisa Lisa. Elegant, refined. You crack her tough exterior and she just relaxes around you. You are her soft. sweet little darling and I can definitely see her falling into your arms after a long and tiring day of training 2 frat boys Joseph and Caesar. You love to take bubble baths together and alSO brushing each others hair <3 I wanted to pair you with Suzi Q but I worry about the sheer c h a o t i c energy you two might bring. 

Part 3: Ah, the gamer boy meets his gamer girl. I SHIP YOU WITH KAKYOIN. I can definitely see the two of you cuddling up and watching artsy movies at his place or just playing some console games. I see you guys as having become close friends as children in elementary school and having that friendship blossom into love. You also try to get Kakyoin to go out with you to keep him from staying holed up in his gamer den though your outdoor excursions with Kakyoin usually end up as trips to the local arcade.

Part 4: Definitely, it’s gotta be Aya Tsuji, you are both romantics and sklnadkl you guys are the most gorgeous couple in all of Morioh. But also, you are so very cute with each other. Aya loves doting on you going on pampering type of dates (trips to the spa, getting facials, getting your nails done) Truly, this Fairy Godmother never expected that she’d be able to get her own happily ever after with you. 

Part 5: Trish Una. Trish is very cat like (?) to me. She can be very temperamental but also very affectionate. Since you have the same affinity towards beautiful things, I think the two of you could get along very well in that regard. Trish will throw hands at anyone who dares to hurt or make fun of you, while you give Trish all the unconditional love and affection she needs. You are also ready to square up against Diavolo if he messes with your sweet baby.

think it's also important to note that from the text description, carlos and athena are working on two different cases so we might not even see them on the same screen, and his time won't be sacrificed for her at all. athena is working on the bio-hazard and carlos and grace are working on a prank call with the dispatch center.

i actually think the trailer is misleading with the voiceover bc i think athena's on the swat case, lol. tim mentions in the variety article that he's purposely referencing cross-state gamer swatting mishaps, and it looks like she busts into an apartment of gamers tbh. carlos and grace are gonna track the call to la where athena's gonna take over prob.

2. Do you like the arrowverse? If so what’s your favorite show? I like it enough, but there are a lot of things I don’t like about it. Mainly just its CW-ness lol. I’ve only watched The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, though.

4. What introduced you to the DC universe? Was it a show, comic or movie? I’ve always loved the Flash and that kind of stemmed from my love of the color red, but I think Justice League the animated series was my first real exposure to the DCU.

I would bring the extended Flash family back and give them a book dedicated to their adventures, Wally would have his own Flash book and Irey would have her own book centering around Max Mercury training her as the new Impulse while Bart supervises from time to time. Just generally more Flash stuff lol. WALLY AND LINDA WOULD BE TOGETHER WITH THEIR KIDS AGAIN.

33. Batman the animated series or Superman the animated series? To be completely honest I wasn’t a huge fan of either. But I know how important BTAS was for animation in general and I’ve seen more episodes of that than I have of STAS, so I guess I’ll go with BTAS.

48. Favorite villain? I really like Hunter Zolomon’s Zoom from the Geoff Johns run of the Flash. His motives were interesting and he was genuinely threatening while also coming from a place you could understand, even if you didn’t agree with his actions.  I also like Eobard Thawne if only for the fact that he’s basically just a hater who won’t freaking die. Like, no matter how many times you kill him, he will not be dead, and that’s hilarious.

49. DC Bombshells, Injustice or Kingdom come? Kingdom Come. I hate the Injustice universe with a passion.

50. Injustice or the Arkham Asylum? I’m not much of a gamer, but I like the different Flash skins in Injustice 2.
