How to Shop at Tiles Stores and Warehouses in Toronto
Shopping for tiles in Toronto can be a daunting task if you're not sure where to begin. With so many options available in terms of colours, patterns, materials, and finishes, it can feel overwhelming to choose the right ones.
However, shopping at tile stores or warehouses in Toronto (or anywhere else, really) can be an enjoyable experience if you approach it with a plan.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through what to expect when shopping for tiles, how to make the right choices, and tips to ensure you get the best value for your investment.
First, Why Visit Tile Stores in Toronto?
Toronto is home to a wide range of tile suppliers, each offering unique selections of materials, designs, and finishes. When you visit a tile store in Toronto, you get the advantage of browsing through a curated collection of options that may not be available online. Additionally, in-store shopping allows you to physically feel the texture, compare the colours in natural lighting, and consult with knowledgeable staff who can guide you through your selection process.
Types of Tiles You'll Find in Tile Stores
When visiting a tile store, you’ll likely encounter several different types of tiles, each suited for specific uses:
Ceramic Tiles: Perfect for walls and low-traffic areas
Porcelain Tiles: Ideal for high-traffic areas due to their durability
Mosaic Tiles: Great for creating unique patterns and designs
Natural Stone Tiles (Marble, Granite): Adds luxury to kitchens and bathrooms
Glass Tiles: Ideal for backsplashes, giving a sleek and modern look
Each of these tiles serves a different purpose, so it's important to understand what works best for your specific project.
What to Think About When Shopping at Tile Stores in Toronto
Tile shopping can be a challenge, especially with the number of tile stores, suppliers, and warehouses in and around Toronto. To help out, here’s is a guide.
Do Research Before Visiting
Before stepping foot in any tile store in Toronto, it's crucial to prepare yourself. Start by taking accurate measurements of the area you plan to tile. (Don't forget to add 10-15% extra for cuts and potential mistakes.) Also, be sure to document any unusual angles or features in your space, as these will affect your tile needs.
Additionally, setting a realistic budget is essential. Consider both material and installation costs, keeping in mind that prices can vary significantly across different materials. Don't forget to factor in additional materials like grout and underlayment, which can considerably add to your total cost.
Choose the Right Tile for Your Space
Selecting the right tile goes beyond simply picking what looks good. You need to consider:
Location: Is it for the kitchen, bathroom, or an outdoor space?
Foot Traffic: Will the area experience heavy use or just occasional foot traffic?
Maintenance Needs: Some materials require more upkeep than others.
By considering these factors, you can ensure that your tile not only looks good but also lasts for years. Choosing the right material is crucial for the longevity and functionality of your tiles. For example, ceramic tiles are highly affordable and versatile but may not withstand heavy foot traffic the way that porcelain tiles will. On the other hand, natural stone tiles like marble can add a touch of elegance but require sealing and regular maintenance to prevent staining.
Know What You're Looking For
When exploring tile suppliers in Toronto, having a solid understanding of different tile types can significantly streamline your selection process. Popular materials include ceramic tiles, which offer affordability and versatility, and porcelain tiles, known for their durability and moisture resistance. Natural stone provides unique patterns but requires regular maintenance, while glass tiles create a modern look perfect for backsplashes.
The intended application of your tiles should heavily influence your choice. Floor tiles need to prioritize slip resistance and durability to withstand constant foot traffic. Wall tiles can focus more on decorative aspects and be lighter in weight. Bathroom installations require excellent water resistance, while kitchen tiles should emphasize ease of cleaning and durability against stains and heat.
Choose the Right Colour
Lighting plays a crucial role in how your tiles will look in your space. Natural light affects how colours appear, and dark tiles can make spaces feel smaller, while glossy tiles reflect more light and can help brighten a room. Consider these factors carefully when making your selection.
Consider Maintenance
Maintenance requirements should also factor into your decision. Some natural stones need regular sealing to maintain their appearance and durability. Textured tiles might trap dirt and require more intensive cleaning, while grout lines need regular maintenance to stay fresh. Understanding these requirements upfront helps you make a choice you'll be happy with long-term.
Here are some care tips:
Regular Cleaning: Sweep or vacuum to remove debris that can scratch the tiles.
Seal Natural Stone Tiles: To prevent staining and moisture damage.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Use a pH-neutral cleaner to avoid damaging the tiles.
Grout Maintenance: Regularly clean grout lines to prevent discolouration and mould.
Select an Experienced Installer
Installing any kind of tile requires expertise and precision. That’s why it is best to hire an experienced installer. Installation complexity varies significantly, though, between different tile types and patterns.
Larger tiles often require professional installation due to their weight and the precision needed for proper alignment. Intricate patterns can increase installation costs substantially, and some materials require special cutting tools and expertise to install properly. Make sure to ask staff at the tile store in Toronto you are visiting about installers. They likely work with a number they can recommend.
Request Samples
Building a good relationship with tile suppliers in Toronto starts with requesting samples of your chosen tiles. Take them home to view them in your actual space under various lighting conditions. Compare them with existing materials in your room to ensure they complement your overall design scheme.
Compare Prices
Price comparison is essential for getting the best value. Obtain quotes from multiple suppliers and ask about potential bulk discounts for larger orders. Don't forget to factor in delivery costs, as these can significantly impact your total expenditure. Quality verification should never be overlooked. Carefully check for consistency in colour and size across tiles, inspect for any manufacturing defects, and understand the warranty terms before finalizing your purchase.
Shopping at tile stores in Toronto or anywhere else doesn’t have to be complicated. By knowing the types of tiles you are looking at, understanding the materials, and considering your needs, you can make the right choice for your space. Whether you prefer the hands-on experience of visiting a tile warehouse or store in Toronto, the key is to take your time and make informed decisions. Happy shopping!

I think of the depression medication scripts, The psychosis hall passes and death sentence labels, Fake happy pills so you can keep us working until there is a moment of opportunity to crush us, Fake - remove sexual deviance and predatory trait - pills until they hurt someone else and you blame it on a mental illness anyway. You know why the girl in Toronto jumped from the balcony? Because you pushed her. It wasn't psychosis baby. And my heart is so sad and so disappointed knowing I am on the same list.
Anyway, I think of everything, From my sister sitting in the basement of 218 concession, it was dark, and it was cold outside, I was waking up -- probably from the same combo John Daubs fed the girls (Go fuck yourselves!) And then times at KGH - from the 1st visit last fall via EMS (Allyce Yiseman/Allyce Wiseman on my bracelet), to being held against the chair as it fell forward and my skull smashed against the tile floor in the basement, Chris the grey suit laying in a fucking booth (fully clothed) and for whatever reason told me to sit above him.
Anyway, From there, my RBC bank card went missing from the bus, I woke up as Jeff from KGH security was getting off and walking into KGH. I also remember the van I was locked in at Grenfell as these things were discussed. Bed bugs, phones taken out of my hands in my pods as my breathing shorted, Being hit by that bitch Mary-Anne or whatever--- for some sweater her "mother" gave her, that I said I did not want, that she was tryna make me pay some $50 ransom for. Funny, it reminded me alot like the donated one stolen from the back of my chair at 681 Princess St Tim Hortons. (Some maps show it as 618 Princess St) Being hit, being told I was going to get hit with a cop present, The culligan pool with Harmony Rd, Chris, and some of the staff, Artillery pool during aquafit, with Steve and Blonde G.I Joe (Shane) from KGH security. From osap defaulting to the shelter being closed for a flood the night my last GST came in, One of the 4x4 wheelers stores I thought to apply to, only to remember Steve, (Maybe Chad & the other security guy at Providence) and the guy with the boxer from 218 Concession --- with the chubby chaser sticker on the back of his truck. Followed by the bunk bed & locker set up (Likely Kelowna) with the cops and one of the girls in the shelter system, Followed by the facetime showing with some kid from North Bay -- I was there. This happened before. He was odd from the start. And so was Ben. Deja Vu as I walked up his street. As I was in his apartment. And the cops and the shelter girls met us there too. Yeah. I'd jump too. I'd jump too. And yknow they threatened me with jail too. Probably some silly fuckin' technicallity. So you could run my name through your systems, probably forced me on pills for my freedom, Probably put me in isolation, and be met with gaurds equivient of Wayne Decoff and Mr. Shamji. You brought them to 1555 Lambs Rd by the way. They met eachother. The cops were there. Dr. Paulovic had shown up or been mentioned ( He WAS at the doctors office, he WAS at Mark E's house --- when Mark let me hug him and put his guitar on the other side of my back. His kids and wife were there. You brought my siblings along. And yes Dr. Paulovic. And the hotel room where my siblings were on the bed, you dumped booze into my brothers mouth. Who was there? Shane, Sean and fucking Melissa. And my doctor. I was ziptied to the chair. I said I'd spit in her face but spit on the ground instead, because I'm solid with the ground I was on, but I would never be solid for them.
I understand why the girl from Toronto jumped. She had a name. Orville jumped knowing he was guilty, and I bet she did knowing she didn't check your list of boxes and requirements for profit for life. And I would jump too. SIU cleared them. They'll probably clear DRPS too, without publishing THE ENTIRE COST AND RECIEPTS OF THE ALCOHOL STOLEN FROM BOWMANVILLE ----- VS THE LIFES LOST, AND IMPACTED ON THAT 401 SERIES HIGHWAY. GOT YOUR RECIEPTS BOYS? I HOPE SO.
They won't publish the receipts.
Anyway, these are the things they deliver to us. Steve said he'd give my ipad to my sister as a gift when I'm gone, Turned around and said he'd likely be her gift when I'm gone. There was a Michelle one of y'all were with back in Courtice too, and I remember that call too. Not the Michelle from the shelter. Trust me, I'm better off gone. Slaughtered into a million pieces so I haunt you while I'm at peace in the next world over.
Anyway, these are the things they deliver to us. Steve said he'd give my ipad to my sister as a gift when I'm gone, Turned around and said he'd likely be her gift when I'm gone. Bon appetite or good luck or whatever.

"FORGED CHEQUE, FRANK LANDERS WAS SENTENCED," Hamilton Spectator. October 2, 1933. Page 7. --- Local Man Goes Down for Three Years --- Signed Father's Name to Bank Slip ---- Accused Has a Lengthy Court Record ---- Pleading guilty to a charge of forgery and uttering a cheque for $10, Frank Landers, no address, was this morning sentenced to three years in Kingston penitentiary by Deputy Magistrate McKay, in city police court.
Detective Witthun stated that the accused had forged his father's name to the cheque and had presented it at the bank and cashed it.
Landers is now serving a term in jail for possession of cocaine. He asked the deputy magistrate this morning to allow his penitentiary term to run concurrently with his present jail sentence and to date it from September 7, the date of his arrest. The deputy magistrate agreed.
Landers is the possessor of a police court record dating back many years. This morning's conviction makes his 26th.
After glancing at the card upon which the convictions were marked down, Deputy Magistrate McKay said: "I see you have already served a term of two years for the same offense. Forgery is a very serious thing. Prison does not seem to do you much good, but you will serve three years in the penitentiary for this offense."
At the request of Cecil Robinson, defending, a charge of theft of about $300 from his employers, an uptown store, Fred Drage, 105 Gerrard street, Toronto, was remanded until Thursday. Facing a similar charge, which involved about $900, Thomas McDonald, St. Catharines, was remanded until the same date at the request of his counsel, Herman Rogers, St. Catharines.
John Schuler, 16½ John street north, faced a charge of obtaining board by fraud, and, at the request of Cecil Robinson, his counsel, was remanded until Thursday. He is also charged with possessing a gun without a license, being an alien, and this case was also laid over until Thursday. Bail was set at $200 or two sureties of $250 each.
The case of Albert Fowler, Campbell avenue, charged with criminal negligence arising out of an accident at the corner of Barton street and Fraser avenue, came up for judgment to-day. When the deputy magistrate stated that he would permit the crown to bring in further evidence to the effect that the accused was the drivér of the car at the time of the accident, the case was laid over until Wednesday.
William Schreiber is appearing for the defense.
[Landers was also known Frank Saunders, Frank Murphy, and Joseph Launders. He was 39, a widower, listed as an inebriate and an 'addict' in his prison record, and worked as a tile-setter, brick-layerer and plasterer - a construction worker, in short. He had a long record, including a term at the Guelph Reformatory, the Mimico Briuck and Title Plant, and at Kingston Penitentiary back in 1920 as #H-242. This time around he was convict #3191 and worked in a construction crew. He was reported five times for infractions, and was released September 1935.]

Transforming Toronto Bathrooms: How to Maximize Space and Style
Toronto's diverse architectural styles often present unique challenges when it comes to bathroom renovations. With many homes featuring compact bathroom spaces, it's crucial to find ways to maximize both space and style. This guide will provide practical tips and ideas to help you transform your bathroom into a functional and stylish sanctuary.
Assessing Your Space
Analyzing Bathroom Layout
Before starting any renovation, it's essential to understand your bathroom's layout. Take measurements and note the location of existing fixtures. This will help you determine what can be changed and what must remain. Consider the traffic flow and how you use the space daily. Identifying these elements will guide your renovation decisions and help you make the most of your bathroom's footprint.
Identifying Storage Needs
Storage is a common issue in small bathrooms. Assess your current storage solutions and identify what you need to store. Do you need more space for towels, toiletries, or cleaning supplies? Once you have a clear idea of your storage needs, you can look for solutions that fit your space and style. Custom-built shelves, cabinets, and even repurposed furniture can offer creative and functional storage options.
Choosing the Right Fixtures
Space-Saving Fixtures
In small bathrooms, every inch counts. Opt for fixtures that save space without sacrificing functionality. Wall-mounted sinks and toilets free up floor space, making the room feel larger. Consider a corner sink if space is tight. Compact, multi-functional fixtures like a shower-tub combo can also be a great choice. Look for sleek, modern designs that add a touch of elegance to your bathroom.
Stylish and Functional Options
Choosing the right fixtures is not just about saving space; it's also about enhancing your bathroom's aesthetic. Look for fixtures that combine style and function. For instance, a frameless glass shower door can make the space look bigger while adding a contemporary feel. Modern faucets and showerheads in finishes like brushed nickel or matte black can elevate the look of your bathroom.
Creative Storage Solutions
Utilizing Vertical Space
When floor space is limited, think vertically. Tall cabinets, wall-mounted shelves, and over-the-toilet storage units can maximize your storage options without cluttering the room. Open shelving can create a sense of openness while keeping essentials within reach. Consider adding hooks or a pegboard to keep items off the counters and organized.
Hidden Storage Ideas
Hidden storage solutions can help maintain a clean and uncluttered look. Built-in niches in the shower or above the sink provide storage without taking up additional space. Vanity units with pull-out drawers or built-in hampers can keep your bathroom organized. Consider furniture with hidden compartments or mirrored cabinets that offer both storage and functionality.
Incorporating Modern Design Elements
Color Schemes and Textures
Choosing the right colors and textures can make a small bathroom feel more spacious and inviting. Light, neutral colors like white, beige, or light gray reflect light and create an airy atmosphere. Adding texture through tiles, wallpaper, or accessories can add depth and interest. Consider using large tiles to reduce grout lines and create a seamless look.
Lighting and Mirrors
Proper lighting is crucial in a small bathroom . Layered lighting, including ambient, task, and accent lighting, can enhance the space's functionality and mood. LED lights are energy-efficient and can be used for various lighting needs. Mirrors can make a small bathroom feel larger by reflecting light and creating the illusion of more space. A large mirror or a mirrored wall can have a significant impact.
Budget-Friendly Renovation Tips
Affordable Upgrades
You don't need a massive budget to transform your bathroom. Simple upgrades like new hardware, a fresh coat of paint, or updated lighting can make a big difference. Re-grouting tiles or adding a new shower curtain and bathmat can refresh the space. Look for deals on fixtures and materials at local home improvement stores or online.
DIY vs Professional Help
Deciding between DIY and hiring professionals depends on your skills and the scope of your renovation. Small projects like painting, installing shelves, or updating hardware can be done yourself. For more complex tasks like plumbing, electrical work, or major structural changes, it's best to hire professionals. This ensures the job is done correctly and safely.
Transforming a small bathroom in Toronto requires creativity and careful planning. By assessing your space, choosing the right fixtures, incorporating smart storage solutions, and focusing on modern design elements, you can maximize both space and style. Whether you're on a tight budget or looking to invest in a major renovation, these tips will help you create a bathroom that is both functional and beautiful.

Budget-Friendly Bathroom Renovations: Tips and Tricks for Toronto Homeowners
Undertaking a bathroom renovation project can be both thrilling and challenging, particularly when trying to achieve your dream changes on a tight budget. Toronto homeowners often grapple with the task of transforming their bathrooms without exceeding financial constraints. Fear not, as this article shares some smart tips and tricks to accomplish budget-friendly bathroom renovations in Toronto.
Thorough Planning and Prioritization
Before delving into bathroom renovations, take the time to meticulously plan and prioritize your needs. Identify the essential changes and distinguish them from desirable but non-urgent alterations. This not only helps you stay within budget but also streamlines the renovation process.
Exploring Cost-Effective Alternatives
Choosing cost-effective materials doesn’t mean compromising on quality. Toronto homeowners can discover a variety of affordable yet durable options for tiles, fixtures, and fittings. Explore local home improvement stores and online marketplaces to find budget-friendly alternatives that align with your vision for a refreshed bathroom.
Comparing General Contractors
When considering contractors for bathroom renovations in Toronto, don’t settle for the first quote. Gather estimates from multiple professionals, look for reputable contractors with positive reviews, and ask for references. This approach helps find the best deal and ensures reliable expertise.
Strategic Timing
Being strategic about when you undertake bathroom renovations can significantly impact costs. Consider scheduling your project during off-peak seasons when contractors may offer lower rates due to decreased demand. Planning ahead can also help you take advantage of sales and discounts on materials.
Reuse and Repurpose
Before a complete overhaul, assess what can be salvaged or repurposed. Refinishing cabinets, updating hardware, or repainting walls can breathe new life into the space without draining your budget. Reusing existing fixtures is an eco-friendly and budget-conscious choice.
Focus on Key Areas
If a full bathroom renovation is not financially feasible, focus on key areas that make a significant impact. Upgrading the vanity, changing lighting fixtures, or installing a new showerhead can transform the look without a complete overhaul.
Energy-Efficient Upgrades
Investing in energy-efficient fixtures might seem like an additional upfront cost but can lead to long-term savings. Toronto homeowners can explore options like low-flow toilets, LED lighting, and water-saving faucets to enhance efficiency.
Repaint for a Refreshed Look
A fresh coat of paint can revitalize a space. Choose light, neutral colors to create the illusion of a larger, brighter bathroom. Painting is a budget-friendly DIY project that transforms the ambiance without breaking the bank.
DIY Decor and Personal Touches
Add a personal touch with DIY decor and accessories. Handcrafted shelves, artwork, or repurposed furniture can enhance the overall aesthetic without breaking the bank. Let your personality shine through in the details.
Conclusion
Bathroom renovations in Toronto don’t have to be a financial burden. By planning carefully, exploring affordable options, and making strategic decisions, homeowners can achieve a refreshed and stylish bathroom without overspending. Whether opting for a DIY approach or hiring experienced general contractors, the key lies in finding a balance that aligns with both your vision and budget.

A new plant sidewalk in Toronto is helping to green the city and reduce the urban heat island effect.
The project, led by GreenCity Solutions, is part of an effort to improve air quality and reduce the city's urban heat island effect. The sidewalk is made up of concrete tiles with built-in planters that are filled with native plants.
The plants are drought-resistant and require minimal maintenance. The planters are connected to a water reservoir, which is filled with rainwater, and the plants are irrigated automatically based on the weather conditions. The water is recycled and the plants are irrigated with collected rainwater.
The plants act as a natural air filter, absorbing air pollutants and releasing oxygen. The planters are also designed to absorb and store heat during the day, releasing it at night, helping to reduce the urban heat island effect.
The plant sidewalk is the first of its kind in Toronto and is part of a larger effort to make the city more green and sustainable. The project is a collaboration between the city, GreenCity Solutions, and the University of Toronto.
The project has been met with positive responses from the community and has been praised as a great way to add more greenery and reduce the city's urban heat island effect. The project is expected to be completed later this year.

Buyer's Guide to Selecting the Best Bathroom Vanity
Whether you are remodeling or building a new bathroom, your choice of vanity can make the difference between drab and fab, awkward and functional, cramped and luxurious. You’ll want to carefully consider several factors before choosing the right bathroom vanity. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your visit to our bathroom store in Vaughan.
1. What color bathroom vanity is the most popular?
Bathroom vanity trends change each year. If you are looking for the latest trend for 2023, you can go with Pantone’s Color of the Year 2023: Viva Magenta 18-1750. However, if you would prefer something that won’t go out of style too quickly, choose a more neutral color, white, gray, black, or even browns and beiges that give off a natural wood feel. Find a large selection of bathroom vanities in Toronto at our showroom.
2. Are wood vanities better than MDF vanities?
It depends on your colour scheme. If you are looking for a wood grain with a stain, wood is the better option. If you are looking for a solid painted finish, MDF is ideal. Wood is live material that expands and contracts as it breathes, therefore, applying many layers of paint to achieve a solid colour on the surface will crack the paint as the wood expands. This is not recommended, especially in moist areas. This is why the majority of painted bathroom vanities we offer in Vaughan are made of MDF.
3. What is the most common bathroom vanity size?
Standard vanities are typically between 18 to 84 inches wide, with a depth of 20 to 22 inches. Most vanities are about 34 inches high with more comfort height options emerging at 36 inches high. At our bathroom store in Vaughan, we have hundreds of design options, from floor standing to wall mount, prefabricated or custom, single and double sinks, with or without storage capability. No matter how big – or small – your bathroom is, we can help you find a vanity that fits into your space.
4. Which is better, a single or double vanity?
Deciding between a single or double vanity depends on the type of bathroom, your lifestyle, and your resale plans for the house. Installing a double vanity in a primary or shared bathroom will increase the value of your home, while a single vanity will provide more storage and counter space. Therefore, if you don’t have any plans to sell your home and you typically do not share your vanity, a single vanity may be more functional.
5. What are the key considerations when selecting a bathroom vanity?
There are several factors to consider when choosing a bathroom vanity for your Toronto home:
Style preferences
Materials used to create the vanity
Countertop materials
Number of sinks
Storage space required
Existing space and bathroom design
Placement of the vanity
Colour scheme
Selecting the vanity top and materials before choosing other elements of the bathroom’s design can help you select the colours, materials, and styles that complement your vanity rather than compete with it.
6. Which is better, a floating vanity or a floor-mount?
It depends on the application and the style of your home. While a floor mount vanity may provide more storage, a wall mount vanity is more modern and creates the illusion of a larger and more spacious bathroom as it allows you to see a longer and more continuous stretch of tile along the floor. In a traditionally styled home, a floor mount vanity may be more suitable, however, there are a few transitional wall mount vanity options that may be suitable.
Finally, if you live in a country with cold winters, you may want to check with your plumber before installing a wall mount vanity on an exterior wall as the pipes in the wall may freeze. In most cases, if your vanity is against an exterior wall your drain and water pipes are likely coming out of the floor vs. the wall. If this is the case, a floor mount vanity will definitely hide the exposed pipes. Although, it is still possible to hide the exposed pipes on a wall mount vanity by building a box around the pipes.
7. Do I install flooring and wall tiles around the vanity, or under/behind it?
Generally, it’s best to remove a floor standing vanity before installing the flooring. When installing wall tiles, you can remove the vanity before installing tiles or you can install tiling around the vanity, depending on the scale of your renovations. We recommend tiling before installing a vanity when possible. While not required, wall tile will give the vanity a more elevated look and will make cleaning easier than drywall.
8. How do I choose the right mirror for my vanity?
We typically recommend choosing mirrors that fit within the length of the vanity or the same length of your vanity. However, sometimes a more dramatic design calls for oversized mirrors. Note that taller mirrors create the illusion of height, so be sure to measure your wall heights before finalizing on a mirror and remember to measure the locations of wall sconces, if any. We offer a wide range of bathroom mirrors in different shapes and sizes to suit the style of your vanity, from frameless to framed, backlit LED, and even mirrors with additional storage options.
