Tumblr media
Physique: Average Build Height: 5'10" (1.77 m)
Arnold Daniel Palmer (September 10, 1929 – September 25, 2016; aged 87) was an American professional golfer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most charismatic players in the sport's history. Since embarking on a professional career in 1955, he won numerous events on both the PGA Tour and the circuit now known as PGA Tour Champions. Nicknamed "The King", Palmer was one of golf's most popular stars and seen as a trailblazer, the first superstar of the sport's television age, which began in the 1950s.

Handsome and charming. It was Palmer, not Tiger Woods who made golf popular to me. Palmer would stride down a fairway acknowledging his army of fans with a sunny smile and a raised club. And according to Donald Trump, Arnie was was well endowed. I'm betting Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player, other members of the "The Big Three" in golf were also packing 9 irons… at least. Three men that I wouldn’t mind playing around with their clubs and balls.

Born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Palmer attended Wake Forest College on a golf scholarship. After quitting school in 1950, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He returned to Wake Forest in 1954 but left again after winning the U.S. Amateur Championship. He earned his first professional victory at the 1955 Canadian Open. In 1958 he won his first Masters Tournament and placed first on the official earnings list for the PGA Tour. Two years later he emerged as a sports superstar, winning eight tournaments, often in dramatic fashion.

In a career spanning more than six decades, Palmer won 62 PGA Tour titles from 1955 to 1973. He is fifth on the Tour's all-time victory list, trailing only Sam Snead, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Ben Hogan. He won seven major titles in a six-plus-year domination from the 1958 Masters to the 1964 Masters. He also won the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998, and in 1974 was one of the 13 original inductees into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Palmer died on September 25, 2016 (shortly after his 87th birthday) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Palmer was twice married, first to Winnie Walzer in 1954. They remained together for decades until her death in 1999. He remarried in 2005, to Kathleen Gawthrop, who survives him. He is also survived by his two daughters from his first marriage, Amy and Peggy. In addition to golf, Palmer was an avid pilot. He flew for over 50 years; in 1999, the airport in his hometown was named Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in his honor.

Scottie Scheffler, Feature Article
Trevor Hislop
Professor Spurrier
Writing for the Media
04/28/2024
Scottie Scheffler’s recent run in the PGA tour has been one for the ages to say the least.  Scottie has won back-to-back Masters, and is on pace to keep up and surpass some of the game's greats such as Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. Through his first ten starts this year, he has won four tournaments. This is unheard of considering that two of them were well known big tournaments. Pro golfers have a great year typically if they win one tournament, if they win two, that puts them in an elite category, but four? Practically unheard of in this day and age. Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh both have nine in one season and that was at a time where the competition wasn’t nearly what it is now. Scottie is through four and we aren’t even halfway through the season. This includes the Master’s and The Players Championship which are very prestigious tournaments. Scottie stands out because he has finished in the top ten in the last nine starts. This consistency is unbelievable, his average finish is 4th and this is right behind Tiger Woods when he had his great year in the year 2000. Scotties dominance has resulted in a pretty hefty sum of money that has come his way in the last few years, just under 62 million dollars is that number.
Tumblr media
Scottie’s dominance is rare but why is he doing so well? The key to going low has been his distance, accuracy and consistency. Scottie has a relatively wonky swing, but it works well for him. His 75% green in regulation percentage is the best on the PGA tour right now. His fairway percentage is also 75%. Though he is only the 92nd best putter on tour. He is ranked number one due to these two stats. I did some research and one of the best articles I have ever read was with the blog “SportsPsychologyGolf”. They emphasized trusting your shot. “I knew exactly where I wanted to put the ball and if I was to miss it, which side of the golf course I could be on to where I could still get it up-and-down… I think I just stayed patient and trusted myself” says Scottie.
This resonates well with me as a golfer. From my personal experience I know it is very unlike other sports. I played most sports growing up, including football, tennis, golf, basketball, soccer, baseball and more. Though I can’t speak for every sport, golf is the most I have ever had to trust myself. You have to think positively, you can’t just take your anger out on the other team such as a sport like football, because each sport has its own slumps. Golf is the only sport that you don’t have a teammate to rely on, but there is also no “perfect” in golf. You can win every point in tennis, you can make all of your shots and win a basketball game, but you will never make a hole in one on every hole or birdie every hole. It hasn’t ever been done, golf is a sport that your emotions are a roller coaster and Scottie is very good at not showing his emotions at all, win or lose, bad hole or good hole. He maintains the same emotion, the only time I have caught him smiling is if he had just won the Masters. He is a fierce competitor and someone you can’t count out considering that most of his wins have come from behind or even him holding off other top players and not getting nervous. Scottie exemplifies traits that will only propel him in the right direction going forward and have been the reason why Scottie is so dominant on the PGA Tour today.

A Look Again at 2023 in Golf: A 12 months of Drama
Tumblr media
Golf is a sport the place sure years stand out above others, and 2023 might show to be a kind of years. It’s a heady listing. In 1860, Willie Park Sr. received the primary British Open, which was held at Prestwick Golf Membership, marking the debut of the oldest main event. In 1913, the newbie Francis Ouimet received the U.S. Open, beating the 2 greatest English golfers of the time, and popularizing the game in the US. In 1930, Bobby Jones accomplished the primary and solely Grand Slam, profitable the 4 majors of his day in a single 12 months. Babe Didrikson Zaharias grew to become the primary girl to make a reduce on the PGA Tour in 1945, competing within the Phoenix Open and Tucson Open. She went on to dominate that decade of golf. In 1950 the L.P.G.A. was fashioned. In 1968, a bunch {of professional} golfers, led by Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, broke away from the Skilled Golf Affiliation of America to create the PGA Tour. Tiger Woods accomplished the Tiger Slam — profitable all 4 males’s main championships consecutively over two seasons, from 2000-1. This 12 months may show pivotal for the boys’s and girls’s sport, with each of the highest excursions mergers. For the PGA Tour, June 6 signifies a earlier than and after in skilled golf. That morning Jay Monahan, the PGA Tour commissioner, introduced a “framework settlement” for the PGA Tour to work with LIV Golf, the Saudi-backed golf league that he had spent a lot of the earlier 12 months disparaging. “I'd ask any participant that has left or any participant that might ever think about leaving: Have you ever ever needed to apologize for being a member of the PGA Tour?” Monahan had said a year earlier. It was one in a sequence of feedback he and officers made connecting LIV, which is funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Funding Fund (P.I.F.), with the nation’s historical past of human rights abuses. However that day in June, in an about-face, there was Monahan sitting subsequent to the fund’s governor, Yasir al-Rumayyan, calling for cooperation. “There are solely a handful of people that weren’t shocked given the previous two years,” mentioned Kevin Hopkins, vp at Excel Sports activities Administration. “Not figuring out what that is going to result in goes to be the subsequent headline.” As stunning as this announcement was for golf followers, it was additionally a shock to the PGA Tour’s membership, which was largely caught off guard. The 12 months within the girls’s sport was extra optimistic — thrilling main championships, the debut of a promising younger star, a hotly contested Solheim Cup that ended in a draw between the 2 groups — however the girls’s tour additionally has a cloud of uncertainty hanging over it. After the L.P.G.A. and its equal throughout the Atlantic, the Girls European Tour (L.E.T.), reached an settlement to merge, the L.E.T. vote to approve the merger was abruptly postponed. Right here’s a glance again at a curler coaster 12 months.
Behind the scenes
The PGA Tour-LIV announcement looms giant for the sheer suddenness of the tour’s reversal and the best way that it angered and alienated a few of its prime gamers, together with Rory McIlroy, who had been one in all Monahan’s staunchest allies. He has since resigned from the PGA Tour board. “My response was shock, as I’m certain quite a lot of the gamers have been taken again by it, by what occurred,” Woods mentioned final month at his Hero World Problem. “So shortly with none enter or any details about it, it was simply thrown on the market.” The transfer galvanized prime gamers to push for management on the tour’s board. Woods, who now sits on the board, mentioned gamers needed to make sure that, going ahead, “we weren't going to be unnoticed of the method like we have been.” For his half, Monahan has expressed remorse with how the announcement was made. “The rollout was a failure on my half,” he mentioned at The New York Instances DealBook Summit final month. “I’ve owned it, and I’ve continued to personal it.” On the opposite facet, LIV Golf was given a lift, if not a lifeline. The league had been rolled out haphazardly. Its first tournaments in 2022 had been marred by issues, corresponding to the shortage of a tv deal and workforce uniforms. The P.I.F. put a whole bunch of hundreds of thousands of {dollars} behind the brand new league, however after the preliminary wave of star defections to LIV — Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and the then-reigning British Open champion, Cameron Smith — consideration shifted to poor attendance at occasions and a scarcity of a serious media companion to broadcast the occasions. The June 6 announcement gave the fledging league relevance. “We went from being solid unfairly as outsiders in golf to our chairman sitting shoulder to shoulder with the commissioner of the PGA Tour,” mentioned Gary Davidson, LIV Golf’s interim chief working officer in 2023. “We at all times knew that LIV may coexist.” With the L.P.G.A. and L.E.T., their merger talks had been going easily. The 2 excursions have been operating in a joint venture since 2020, a interval when prize cash rose on each excursions. This 12 months the 2 boards negotiated phrases for a merger, with the L.P.G.A. successfully taking on the L.E.T. Whether or not it occurs will depend on a vote by the L.E.T. gamers. “The vote has been postponed by the L.E.T. board from its unique Nov. 21 date as extra time was wanted to guage all related info obtained,” mentioned Mollie Marcoux Samaan, the L.P.G.A. commissioner. “A brand new date for the vote has not but been set. The L.P.G.A. board stays enthusiastic concerning the alternative to deliver our two organizations collectively.”
Within the highlight
Each the ladies’s sport and males’s sport additionally offered compelling story traces on the course. The primary males’s main, the Masters Match, got here all the way down to a duel between Jon Rahm, a stalwart of the PGA Tour, and Koepka, a a number of main champion who had left for LIV. Rahm prevailed, however within the subsequent main, the PGA Championship, Koepka pulled away from the sector to win his fifth main. LIV noticed this as validation. “Competing within the Masters after which profitable the PGA Championship was large for us,” Davidson mentioned. “It proved the competitiveness of LIV, that it may put together the fellows properly for majors.”(On Thursday, LIV introduced that Rahm would join its tour subsequent 12 months.) The 5 girls’s main championships additionally offered pleasure. Lilia Vu received the primary and final of the majors, to rise to the No. 1 rating and declare the participant of the 12 months title. Céline Boutier grew to become the primary French participant to win her dwelling nation’s Amundi Evian Championship. And Allisen Corpuz, a younger American in her second 12 months on the tour, received the U.S. Girls’s Open. The L.P.G.A. additionally acquired a feel-good story with Rose Zhang, who had lengthy been the No. 1-ranked newbie girl on the planet. Zhang turned professional in June and won the first event she entered. “It’s been a whirlwind for her, however she’s completed what folks have anticipated her to do,” mentioned Hopkins, who runs Excel Sports activities Administration’s L.P.G.A. observe. “The L.P.G.A. is worked up to have her as one of many stars.” Staff competitors was intense on each the boys’s and the ladies’s sides, however in several methods: The Solheim Cup was shut and thrilling, whereas the boys’s equal, the Ryder Cup, was a rout. Staff Europe blew out the U.S. workforce, which succeeded solely in preserving its 30-year shedding streak in Europe. There's one wrinkle for future European groups, and that’s the partnership the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour have struck. The PGA Tour has successfully made DP World a feeder tour, granting membership to the highest 10 gamers on its annual Race to Dubai rankings. This successfully culls the most effective gamers in Europe. With simply weeks left within the 12 months, there’s nonetheless the opportunity of extra drama. Whereas all eyes are on whether or not the PGA Tour-LIV framework settlement will get signed by 12 months finish, questions stay whether or not the L.P.G.A. and L.E.T. merger will undergo too. It’s a becoming finish to a tumultuous 12 months. Read the full article

Tiger Woods and Nike are done!
Tumblr media
According to CNN
Tiger Woods has broken up with Nike after a protracted 27-year collaboration with the world’s largest sportwear company, the golf legend announced on Monday.
“Over 27 years ago, I was fortunate to start a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world,” Woods wrote on X.
Woods went on to write that “there will certainly be another chapter.”
Nike bid adieu to Woods on Instagram, saying “it was a hell of a round, Tiger.”
“Tiger, you challenged your competition, stereotypes, conventions, the old school way of thinking. You challenged the entire institution of golf. You challenged us. And most of all, yourself. And for that challenge we’re grateful,” the company added.
Popular Swiss sneaker brand ON Running’s CEO Marc Maurer, addressing speculation following Woods departure at Nike, told an audience at the ICR retailing Conference on Monday that Woods was not signing with the brand.
“We hope he finds a great new partner. It’s not going to be us,” Maurer told the gathering.
Nike has almost been synonymous with Woods, from when he first went pro in 1996 to his Masters win in 2019, his first major tournament win in 11 years. Even though a sex scandal drove sponsors such as Gatorade, AT&T and Accenture away from Woods – losing him an estimated $20 million – his relationship with Nike stayed intact.
In 1996, Nike launched the iconic “Hello World” commercial, based on Woods’ professional debut at the Greater Milwaukee Open, where he began the press conference with, “I guess, hello world, huh?”
Woods signed a five-year endorsement contract with Nike in 2000. It was worth an estimated $85 million, making it the richest endorsement contract in sports history at the time.
At one point, Woods’ Nike deal was reported to be worth as much as $20 million a year, CNN previously reported. Woods signed multiple deals with the company over a span of nearly three decades, including a 10-year deal signed in 2013 that’s worth about $200 million. But in 2019, his deal was worth about half of that amount annually, Bob Dorfman, an endorsement expert and executive creative director at Baker Street Advertising, said at the time.
Woods is still one of the best known athletes in the country, three times better known by the general public than the average athlete, according to surveys by Q Score.
And while positive opinions of him are down from his heyday among the general public, sports fans still have a more positive view of him than the average athlete, according to the Q Score surveys.
“Why is Nike separating from Woods who has been a long-time brand ambassador for the brand? It could be that Nike is looking to get out of the golf business,” said Eric Smallwood, president of Apex Marketing Group, a sports and entertainment firm that evaluates sponsorships and advertising campaigns.
“Nike used to sell golf balls and clubs with its logo and that ended. It still sells golf clothing and footwear,” he said.
Smallwood said he would be surprised if the breakup was due to any concern that Woods was nearing the end of his career.
“Woods is synonymous with golf. Nike has stuck with him through his life trials and his comebacks,” he said. “Woods can play as long as he wants to in the PGA and then the Senior PGA. Look how long Nike has held on to Michael Jordan. He hasn’t played in over 20 years.”
In August, Woods was named the sixth player director on the powerful PGA Tour policy board, giving players a one seat advantage on the board after the controversial merger between the PGA Tour and Saudi-backed LIV golf. Woods had reportedly turned down nearly $1 billion to play in LIV golf.
Joshua Butler, founder of online golf clothing brand J. Butler Golf, called Woods a savvy business person “who understands that the landscape of golf is changing.”
“Nike has been pulling away from golf products. Tiger has vast opportunity to land somewhere else,” said Butler. “Golf clothing companies are coming into the market with other options, better options and varied price points.”
“It’s not that Nike has done anything wrong, it’s not that Tiger Woods may not necessarily be happy with his relationship with Nike for the last 27 years, but this is a golden opportunity to go after a younger crowd, to go after individuals who aren’t rich that want to play the game,” he said. “Tiger understands that, the importance of what he’s meant to the golf industry as well as to people of color. That’s why I think this is such as monumental shift right now.”
–CNN’s Chris Isidore, Robert Ilich and Wayne Sterling contributed to this story

How Tiger Woods’ Ex-Wife, Elin Nordegren, Is Doing, 11 Years After Their Scandalous Divorce
Shaoni DasAugust 1, 2022
The world will never forget the allegations that Tiger Woods cheated on his (now) ex-wife, Elin Nordegren. It was the moment that forever tarnished the athlete’s reputation. Before then, he’d been known as one of the greatest — if not the greatest — figures in golf. There’s a reason why he’s broken innumerable records and is No. 1 in PGA Tour wins alongside Sam Snead — he’s simply phenomenal. He also carved out a unique place in what is traditionally a stomping ground for rich White men.
That’s not to say Tiger Woods isn’t considered a superb sportsman any longer. But a lot of discourse around his career revolves around the 2009-2010 affairs scandal. The news dominated mainstream media for a solid year, resulting in the divorce between Tiger and his wife, Swedish model Elin Nordegren.
While the allegations have been scrutinized to death, there isn’t a lot of information out there on the current dynamic between Tiger Woods and ex-wife Elin Nordegren. So it’s worthwhile to take a step back, look into their sweet beginnings, and examine how their relationship has evolved over the years.
Who Is Tiger Woods’ Ex-Wife, Elin Nordegren?
Elin Nordegren was born on Jan. 1, 1980, in Stockholm, Sweden, to Barbro Holmberg and Thomas Nordegren. Her mother, Barbro, was Sweden’s Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy from 2003 to 2006, and served as governor of Gavleborg County for seven years. Elin’s father, Thomas Nordegren, is a political journalist and writer who served as a Washington, D.C., bureau chief. She has a twin sister, Josefin, and an older brother, Axel.
Although Elin hails from a prominent Swedish family, she didn’t necessarily grow up with a silver spoon in her mouth. She and her sister had to earn their pocket money; they worked as cashiers through the summers to pay for school. Erin also did some modeling work in the early 2000s, landing a cover on Cafe Sport magazine at just 20 years old.
She’d been working at a retail clothing store when she met Mia Parnevik, the wife of Swedish golfer Jesper Parnevik. Mia immediately took a liking to Elin, and offered her a position as nanny to her children. Elin accepted, and moved with the family to the United States. There, Elin accompanied the family to golf tournaments, turning heads wherever she went.
Elin Nordegren ‘Had No Interest’ in Tiger Woods When They First Met
(David Cannon/Getty)
She met Tiger in 2001 at British Open. But while he was immediately smitten with her, Mia recalled that Elin “had no interest in Tiger, and he was OK with that.” Elin told People magazine that she had her “opinions about celebrities,” but Tiger made her think they were more similar than expected.
I got convinced that we were a lot alike and agreed to a date. The biggest reason I fell for him was because we had a lot of fun together. none
Elin had been seeing someone at the time, and wasn’t particularly keen on beginning a long-term relationship. She was also focused on going to school to become a child psychologist. Yet Tiger convinced her to give him a chance. In November 2003, Elin accompanied Tiger to the President’s Cup in South Africa. The two became engaged the same month during a four-day stay at the Shamwari Game Reserve.
The two tied the knot on Oct. 5, 2004, in a ceremony that spared no expense. The golf legend rented the entire Sandy Lane Hotel in Barbados, including three golf courses and about 110 rooms. It cost around $2 million for the venue. The couple went on to have two children during their nearly six years of marriage: daughter Sam Alexis, born in 2007, and son Charlie Axel, born in 2009.
Tiger Woods’ ‘Transgressions’ and 2009 Car Crash
Rachel Uchitel (Image: HBO)
The first of the accusations against Tiger Woods surfaced in a National Enquirer report that alleged the golfer had an extramarital dalliance with New York City nightclub owner Rachel Uchitel. Although Uchitel denied the accusation, it soon became apparent there was more to the story. According to HBO’s Tiger Woods documentary, the golfer had Uchitel call Elin to assure her there was nothing going on between them.
The situation only grew murkier when Tiger became involved in a car accident on Nov. 27, 2009, a few weeks after the Enquirer article. He crashed into a fire hydrant, a tree, and several hedges near his Florida mansion, and suffered facial injuries. The press jumped to speculate on how the accident occurred, with some even theorizing Elin Nordegren finally broke, and was somehow responsible for the crash.
HBO’s Tiger confirmed Elin had confronted Tiger the same night about his affair with Uchite. Therefore, tensions were running high between the married couple. According to the Los Angeles Times, theories circulated that Elin had been “chasing Woods with a golf club at the time of the crash and smashed the back windows of the vehicle.”
Tiger Woods’ Reputation and Marriage Unravel
From the “Tiger” documentary (Image: HBO)
Tiger and Elin vehemently denied those rumors, and Tiger claimed full responsibility for the collision. “My wife, Elin, acted courageously when she saw I was hurt and in trouble,” he said in a statement. “She was the first person to help me.”
Elin told People, “There was never any violence inside or outside our home.” She added that speculation that she could have inflicted violence on him is “truly ridiculous.”
However, the reported tryst with Rachel Uchitel was only the tip of the iceberg. Over the next couple of months, a dozen or so women came forward, claiming to have slept with the married golfer. Tiger subsequently owned up to these “transgressions,” and stated that he’s “far short of perfect.”
Elin Nordegren and Tiger Woods File for Divorce
Tiger reaffirmed his love for his wife, writing, “Elin has always done more to support our family and shown more grace than anyone could possibly expect.” He once again dismissed malicious gossip about his car accident. He also announced he would take time off to try to salvage his marriage.
Those efforts didn’t come to fruition, however. Amid widespread media coverage, Elin filed for divorce in mid-2010. The two finalized their divorce on Aug. 23, 2010, at the Bay County Circuit Court in Panama City, Florida. Elin received $100 million in the divorce settlement.
If there is no trust between the parents, I think it is better for the children that the parents split up. I am now going to do my very best to show them that alone and happy is better than being in a relationship where there is no trust. none
Elin Has ‘Moved On,’ and Is in a ‘Good Place’ with Tiger
Although the adultery scandal generated global interest at the time, the gossip subsided in the years afterward. That’s provided both Elin and Tiger with enough space to begin their lives anew. One can only imagine the hardship Elin must have faced amid the media circus. She’d become an overnight “spectacle,” to be mocked and ridiculed simply for existing.
It’s no wonder Elin didn’t want to have anything to do with Tiger in the wake of the scandal. Following the divorce, she bought a 1920s-era mansion in North Palm Beach, Florida. She then demolished it to build an innovative new structure, inadvertently giving way to a metaphor of her life. Elin fulfilled her dream of earning a degree in psychology, and graduated in May 2014 from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, earning the distinction for Outstanding Senior. She said in an interview that education “is always what [she] wanted,” and that she is proud to set an example for her children about following your passions.
Elin Nordegren and Jordan Cameron Have Been Together Since 2019
Tiger Woods’ ex-wife, Elin, has fallen in and out of love a few times since their divorce. She dated coal tycoon Chris Cline between 2011 and 2016 (he later died in a helicopter crash). In early 2019, Elin began dating former NFL tight end Jordan Cameron. In June 13, 2019, it was reported the two were expecting their first baby (Jordan has a son, Tristan, from a previous relationship). Elin gave birth to her third child, son Filip Nordegren Cameron, in October 2019 (they filed to change his name two months later to Arthur Nordegren Cameron). Elin and Jordan are still together.
She has been fiercely private about her life, post-Tiger. However, the few interviews she’s given reveal a great deal about the evolution of their relationship. In a 2010 interview, Elin disclosed that she’d never suspected Tiger of cheating on her. In fact, the whole state of affairs proved to be an absolute shock.
I’m so embarrassed that I never suspected — not a one. […] Forgiveness takes time…I am going to be completely honest and tell you that I am working on it. I know I will have to come to forgiveness and acceptance of what has happened for me to go on and be happy in the future.  none
Elin Is Determined to Make Co-Parenting Work with Tiger
Tiger Woods and children Sam and Axel in 2022 (Image: Instagram)
At the same time, Elin is committed to making things work with Tiger as co-parents to their two children. The mother of three made it clear 11 years ago that she wanted the children to be close with Tiger. “I will always have a working parenting relationship with Tiger,” she asserted.
I have moved on, and I am in a good place. Our relationship is centered around our children, and we are doing really good — we really are. He is a great father.  none
All Unpleasant Situations Eventually End
Elin’s development over the past decade speaks volumes about her sense of self and maturity. She’d been a young mother of two when her entire world crumbled and she had to reckon with a betrayal of the most extreme kind. But the Swedish psychology kept her head down and focused on her priorities.
The scandal, and subsequent divorce, empowered Elin Nordegren to fulfill her dreams and invest in education. Yet, she also has enough room in her heart to maintain a cordial rapport with Tiger, if only for the sake of their children.
We need to remember that all situations, no matter how pleasant and testing, have an expiry date. If we can cope with them thoughtfully and patiently, they too shall pass, and we’ll be able to climb back up to the surface and gain a fresh perspective on our life.

Black Women in the Animating World
In a previous blog, Black Women Animate, founded by Taylor Shaw, was discussed and upon revisiting the field of animation, this blog will be taking shorter previews of various Black women in the animating world. By no means an autobiography of these individuals, this blog will act as a means of bringing to light multiple talented animators and artists, bringing attention to their work and ventures in animation, but condensed into short snippets.
Tumblr media
Pilar Newton is the CEO and founder of PilarToons, LLC, a production company that specializes in animation, illustration, and design based in Brooklyn, New York. Newton graduated with a degree from Rhode Island School of Design and has worked on a number of projects, from Cartoon Network’s Courage the Cowardly Dog to MTV’s Daria, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at the School of Visual Arts. Her company has worked with companies such as Homer Learning, Sirius Thinking, Nickelodeon, Ted-Ed, Search Films, Story Corp, as well as others.
Tumblr media
Mia Lee is a Chicago-based artist who has had work featured on Adult Swim and whose portfolio includes designs for Nike, Kith, and Timberland. She has met with multiple executives in animation and production making sure to meet with those who want to hear from young people of color. She is a newcomer to the animating world but is already making waves through her artistry and networking talent, landing her jobs and even allowing herself to pursue successful passion projects picked up by famous networks.
Tumblr media
Monique Henry-Hudson was born and raised in Queens, New York, and has used her community as inspiration for her work. After being asked to create the “Black in Animation” panel for Blerd City Con in Brooklyn in 2018, she became the founder of DiverseToons, an organization that highlights women of color in multi-media. DiverseToons works at emphasizing the importance of diversity in the animation industry and provides a platform for Black artists and people of color to share their passions and career experiences while also giving resources to their communities. DiverseToons has also partnered with Women in Animation’s Student Branch in 2018, connected even more women and non-binary people of color in animation.
Tumblr media
Sonya Carey has cemented herself in technical animation and is considered the only Black woman to do so. Her past credits include Disney’s The Princess and the Frog,” “The Proud Family,” and “Winnie the Pooh,” and she is positioned as the leader of her team as Head of Studio Operations at Portfolio Entertainment in Toronto. After high school, she moved to Los Angeles then got married when she finished college. After getting married, couldn’t work for a year and during that year, she got a computer and did desktop animations for fun, unknowingly catapulting her career in the industry. These desktop animations resulted in her taking classes at UCLA and ultimately getting a job at MetroLight Studios working on “Ren and Stimpy,” the beginning of her famous career. She then ran the digital side of the company Toon Boom for ten years then moved onto 3D animation for ToonBox before going back to 2D at Portfolio Entertainment. She also ran her own studio for some time called Make a Scene.
Tumblr media
Carole Holliday works as a storyboard artist, director, and is the founder of Crowded Metro Films. She attended the California Institute of the Arts and graduated with a BFA in animation, pursuing storyboarding with her degree. She has worked on films “Oliver and Company” (1988) and “The Little Mermaid” (1989) as an animation assistant before starting her career in storyboarding with “A Goofy Movie” (1995) while also being a story artist for “The Pince of Egypt” (1998) and “Tarzan” (1999). She has also worked as a character design supervisor and moved up to directing an animated short for DisneyToon Studio’s “Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas.” More recently, she has done storyboard revisions on Disney’s “Sofia the First,” and has been working on storybooks. She even has her own profile on the official Walt Disney website for all of the work she has done with them.
Tumblr media
Lisette Titre-Montgomery is a video game artist and designer who graduated with a degree in computer animation from Miami International University of Art and Design in 2000. She was inspired to study computer animation after watching “Toy Story” (1995) and decided to go to school for it. Her first animation job was working as a character model for the game Freekstyle which helped her land a job as a senior character and special effects artist at EA Games in around 2005. She then worked on games like Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007 and helped developed The Simpsons Game, The Godfather II, and Dante’s Inferno. She ultimately left EA Games in 2011 and went on to become the lead artist at Blackbone Entertainment where she worked on Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone and Midway Arcade Origins. Titre-Montgomery later returned to EA Games in 2013 to work on games like Dance Central 3 and The Sims 4. She then started working as the manager of the art and computer animation department for the company Ubisoft in around 2015. Titre-Montgomery was also invited to the White House LGBTQ Tech and Innovation Briefing in 2016 and the following year became the art manager at Double Fine Productions, working on Psychonauts 2. Lisette Titre-Montgomery is also a member of Blacks in Gaming which is a nonprofit networking and collaboration group for African Americans in the gaming industry.
Although this blog does not go as in-depth into these trendsetters, game-changers, or trail-blazers in the animation community as it should, it acts as a small list of Black women animators that has made big waves in the industry as a whole. Their work in the field has allowed countless young women of color to believe that they can achieve their dreams in animation and allow them to have role models to look up to as inspiration. There may not be nearly as many Black female animators but the number is slowly growing and they are leaving their print on animation as a whole and that should be paid attention to.

This week, on the originally scheduled dates for the playing of the 2020 PGA Championship, SiriusXM will offer listeners across the country re-broadcasts of the final rounds of four classic PGA Championship events.  From Thursday, May 14, through Saturday, May 16, listeners can re-live memorable performances by John Daly (1991), Tiger Woods (2000), Rory McIlroy (2014) and Brooks Koepka (2019).
The special PGA Championship programming will be available to subscribers nationwide on SiriusXM radios (Sirius channel 208, XM channel 92), and to everyone – including anyone who is not already a SiriusXM subscriber – on the SiriusXM app and connected devices as part of SiriusXM’s free streaming access period through May 31. SiriusXM’s Classic PGA Championship broadcasts will feature these memorable Sunday finishes:
1991 PGA Championship – In his rookie year on the PGA Tour, John Daly entered the 1991 PGA Championship as the ninth and final alternate.  He was a virtual unknown stepping onto the first tee at Crooked Stick, but four exceptional rounds later his three-stroke victory, enormous drives, and one-of-a-kind personality had made him a worldwide star.  Airs Thursday, May 14, at noon ET (replays Saturday at 10pm ET)
2000 PGA Championship - Tiger Woods won his second straight PGA Championship and fifth major in a three-hole playoff over Bob May in 2000 at Valhalla G.C.  Woods and May dueled down the stretch on Sunday and finished the 72nd hole at 18-under to set the PGA Championship record to par.  It was the third of four straight majors Woods won over 2000-01 to complete the “Tiger Slam.”  Airs Thursday, May 14, at 10 pm ET
2014 PGA Championship – Rory McIlroy entered the final day at Valhalla with the lead but fell behind by as many as three strokes with a shaky front nine.  An eagle on 10 got him back into contention and after a neck-and-neck race against Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler and Henrik Stenson over the final holes, McIlroy parred 18 in near darkness to win his fourth major.  Airs Friday, May 15, at noon ET (replays Saturday at noon ET)
2019 PGA Championship – At New York’s Bethpage Black, Brooks Koepka won his second consecutive PGA Championship, and fourth major, by two strokes ahead of runner-up Dustin Johnson.  The victory returned Koepka to the top spot in the World Golf Ranking. Airs Friday, May 15, at 10pm ET (replays Saturday at 6pm ET)
In addition to these tournament broadcasts, subscribers can tune in for dedicated golf talk on the 24/7 SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio channel.  For more info go to www.SiriusXM.com/GolfonSXM.

Americastee - Virgil abloh all – fashion moves forward shirt
Buy this shirt:  https://americastee.com/product/virgil-abloh-all-fashion-moves-forward-shirt/
He’s back in the Virgil abloh all – fashion moves forward shirt Besides,I will do this winner’s circle, competing against players who have proven themselves in the 2018 season and throughout the knockout stages, including most of the world’s best players. He hasn’t won on the PGA Tour since 2013. He’s recovering from surgery: Tiger Woods has had 4 back surgeries, the most recent being in April 2017. Many, if not I mean all in all, in the golfing world believe (publicly or privately) that he will never recover enough to win again on the PGA Tour.
Tumblr media
He’s not back to win major titles, but he’s dealt with all sorts of health, skill and dedication issues (something a 42-year-old athlete can overcome). Because of what he has done in the Virgil abloh all – fashion moves forward shirt Besides,I will do this past, the standards are much higher for Tiger Woods. Will he return to the same form as when he won the Tigers major in 2000-2001 (four consecutive majors of golf)? Never say never, but it’s very unlikely; but again, so is the idea of him winning again.

An Introduction to Playoff Rules in Golf
Most modern golf tournaments are played over multiple days, requiring players to complete four rounds of 18 holes. A certain score is used after each round. Players who fail to make the cut are eliminated from the competition. If two or more players finish the final round with the same score, a playoff decides the tournament winner. On the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) tour, a playoff consists of at least three holes, at the end of which the player with the best overall score from those three holes is declared the winner. If the score remains tied after three holes, the playoff enters into sudden death, at which point play will continue until one of the golfers wins a hole outright. There have been several unique playoff scenarios throughout the PGA tour. Before exploring unique playoff records, such as the longest playoff of all time or the most players to compete in a playoff, golf enthusiasts should be aware that the tour has adjusted how playoffs are scored on several occasions. The current format was introduced in 2000. Between 1977 and 2000, golfers tied at the end of the fourth round immediately entered into a single-hole, sudden-death scenario. On the other hand, ties before 1977 were determined by the fifth round of 18-hole golf, adding an extra day to the competition. The longest playoff in golf history took place at the US Open in 1931. Following 72 holes of regulation golf, Billy Burke and George Von Elm found themselves tied with one of the sport’s most prestigious titles. As sudden death playoff scoring had yet to be introduced, Burke and Von Elm returned for the fifth day of competition, intending to settle matters with another round of golf. Instead, the players complete two full rounds of golf on the fifth day of competition, a total of 36 extra holes. Unbelievably, the competitors remained tied. The 1931 US Open moved into an unprecedented sixth day of live competition, but the seventh round of golf was not enough to separate the two. An eighth and, ultimately, the final round was played between Burke and Von Elm, and it still came down to the wire: Burke took the prize after 144 holes, beating Von Elm by 589 strokes to 590. The US Open was one of the last tournaments to move away from traditional playoff scoring, embracing the sudden death format in 2018. The decision came a decade after Tiger Woods defeated Rocco Mediate at Torrey Pines following 18 playoff holes and a 19th sudden death hole to decide the championship. When looking purely at the sudden-death playoff format, the record for the longest playoff belongs to Peter Thomson and Graham Marsh. Competing as players on the Japan Golf Tour in 1976, the pair started a playoff alongside Brian Jones and Shozo Miyamoto. However, Miyamoto was eliminated after the first hole and Jones after the fourth. However, Thomson and Marsh continued for nearly a full round of play, with Thomson ultimately prevailing after the 14th sudden death hole. The PGA record is comparable, with Lloyd Mangrum and Cary Middlecoff playing 11 sudden-death holes at the 1949 Motor City Open before being declared co-winners due to darkness. via Blogger http://farooqshahzadwi.blogspot.com/2022/11/an-introduction-to-playoff-rules-in-golf.html

Video game studio helps Nova Scotia's Lunenburg make its mark in the world of golf
From Moe Norman to Mike Weir and Sandra Post to Brooke Henderson, Canada has a rich golf history.
But there's also a little-known golf hotbed in Lunenburg, N.S.
Located on the south shore of Nova Scotia, with a population of 2,396 according to the 2021 census, the port town is home to HB Studios, creator of the new "PGA Tour 2K23" video game.
Founded in 2000 by transplanted Englishman Jeremy Wellard, HB Studios collaborated with various publishers including Electronic Arts on an array of sports games. The studio recruited locally and all over the globe to get expertise in everything from cricket and rugby to soccer, football and golf.
"When I started here, I was definitely one of the local people," said HB Studios creative director Josh Muise, who has more than 15 years experience with the company. "I was born on the East Coast and grew up out here. I remember walking through the studio the first day and the number of different accents that I came across was certainly delightful and kind of interesting to find in a small sleepy fishing village in Nova Scotia."
The studio now also has an office in Halifax, with combined staff of about 100 and growing.
"This has become a really major project and it's become a very big game," Muise said of the golf title. "We're very lucky to be able to continue attracting world-class talent and growing the franchise."
Muise, 40, was born on Cape Breton Island and spent a lot of his school years in New Brunswick. While he admits to some reservations back in the day about moving to "a 1,200- to 1,500-person seasonal fishing village, as beautiful as it was in the postcards," he is now an unabashed fan of Lunenburg.
"It's been a wonderful transformation. The town has radically shifted in the last five, 10 years in particular, where you're seeing a lot of new businesses and you're seeing a lot of new people coming in. And it's really become a hotbed."
The trend toward working remotely has helped bring an influx of young high-tech workers looking to leave the city. The fact that Halifax is only an hour or so away adds to Lunenburg's attraction.
HB Studios mirrors that growth, as shown by the fact that its newest title features Tiger Woods on its cover.
"The thing that we're proudest of with that is that we feel like we earned the opportunity," said Muise, whose name is pronounced muse. "We went from an independent golf game, not all those many years ago, to building up to earning ourself the spot to having the PGA Tour licence come into play and being part of our partnership, ultimately bringing in 2K (Games) and everything that they offer, and then leading up to bringing in Tiger Woods as well.
"The team worked very very hard to put a great game out there. We worked with the community. We were receptive to the feedback. And we kind of grew together. So for it all to culminate with the best, I would say, single-sport athlete of all time on the cover of the box, nothing could feel better."
That first independent golf game was "The Golf Club," released in 2014, which eventually became "The Golf Club 2019 featuring PGA Tour."
In 2020, the studio released "PGA Tour 2K21" for 2K Games. A year later, 2K Games bought HB Studios and signed a deal with Woods.
Today the PGA Tour 2K franchise is the studio's main focus with 2K Games' expertise from its NBA franchise helping the studio with the complexities of golf licensing and partners.
Woods and Canadian Brooke Henderson are among the 16 playable pros available at launch in "PGA Tour 2K23," which was released Oct. 14 for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One and PC via Steam. Basketball icons Michael Jordan and Steph Curry also appear in the game.
"Being a Canadian studio, it was important for us to try and bring in a great Canadian icon like Brooke," said Muise.
"She's a great ambassador for the sport. She's an all time Canadian legend." he added. "And (we're) absolutely thrilled to have her as part of our roster."
The 2K franchise will have competition next spring, with Electronic Arts getting back into the game with "EA Sports PGA Tour," boasting video game access to all four majors including the Masters.
"We know that there may be a new product coming into the space but ultimately we feel very confident and very comfortable that golf is where we want to be," said Muise. "And golf is where we intend on staying. And we're going to keep building on our current success and pushing it."

The McIlroy PGA tour is one of the PGA tour series that was not named after Tiger Wood. The Best EA Sports Games You Can Play Right Now 7. The Best EA Sports Games You Can Play Right Now.Unless is makes a big comeback, players will fond memories will just have to continue playing the Street games on their PlayStation 2s. The chances of EA bringing the series back are slim, especially since the arcade sports genre itself has fallen out of style. Many fans still miss the classic franchise and wish it would make a comeback on modern consoles. Some gamers believe EA Big's closure signified the end of an era at EA.Įven after nearly 20 years, EA Big's Street titles are still some of the best arcade sports games out there. EA ended up shutting down EA Big in 2008, killing off many of its beloved franchises, the Street series being one of the casualties. EA eventually started closing many of its more experimental branches in order to focus on existing brands like Madden and Battlefield. The company started limiting its original projects and focusing on titles it knew would sell well. Unfortunately, EA started playing it safe as soon as the Street craze started taking off. Many of its games were off the wall and pushed traditional sports to the limits. EA Big was one of the more experimental branches of Electronic Arts. Companies would often experiment with obscure ideas and release original, inventive titles. The Street series came out at a time when developers were taking risks with video games. Related: Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath Was Awesome - But It Didn't Fit With the Series This led gamers to grow tired of the urban arcade sports aesthetic, instead yearning for something new. As is the case with other franchises that were unable to keep things fresh, Street fans began looking for new experiences elsewhere. From 2001 to 2006, EA released eight Street games. EA started milking the Street franchise, launching some sequels less than a year of its predecessor. What started out as a fresh idea began growing stale after a few short years. By the mid-2000s, every Street game received multiple sequels, and copycat titles started flooding the market. Clone games like Street Hoops and NBA Ballers started sprouting up everywhere. NBA Street started the craze and inspired other games to follow in its footsteps, like NFL Street and FIFA Street.
#New ea sports games professional#
Taking professional sports teams out of the stadiums and into the street was an original idea back in 2001. The Street series started off as a fresh, new concept. Related: Rockstar's Bully Remains a Classic and Controversial Game However, after looking further into the franchise, it's clear why EA left the Street games behind. EA suddenly abandoned the Street series without warning. However, the zany franchise's reign at the top of the sports genre would be short-lived. NBA Street and NFL Street became the go-to sports titles for many gamers. The Street games became some of the most popular sports games during the PlayStation 2 era. While the SSX series might be the company's most popular franchise, the Street series gives it a run for its money. This unorthodox division of Electronic Arts made some of the most iconic arcade sports games during the sixth console generation. If you were playing video games back in the early 2000s, there is a good chance you remember EA Big.
