Happy 10th anniversary to the GSNK anime!

10 years ago in Japan, the GSNK anime made by Doga Kobo started airing as part of the Summer 2014 season! It was through this adaptation that fans fell in love with the idiotic shenanigans charms of Nozaki&co, and many went on to read the manga to see more of our gang tackling shoujo manga tropes.

The anime adapted Chapters 1-48 of the manga, albeit sadly with a lot of skipped/shortened content (and interesting... changes). However, the adaptation really brought the series to life thanks to the stellar Japanese voice cast, A+ soundtrack, and the animators elevating some scenes with some added wackiness (those two panels of Hori finding himself piggybacked by bull!Kashima, expanded to 40 seconds of the most hilarious riding(?) sequence ever? iconic).

The anime has 12 episodes (plus 6 special mini episodes) and can be currently streamed legally on HIDIVE amongst other sources (depending on your region). It's been dubbed in a few languages, including an English dub by Sentai Filmworks.

I watched the first season of Shadow and Bone, should I watch the second season? 👀 (in your opinion)

Oh that's a real good question. It has pros and cons, so I'll lay out my thoughts in that manner below. Starting with the cons, cause that's how I roll!

Cons of S&B season 2 (in my opinion):

It has some language that I don't care for

There are some Unfortunate Scenes but they're pretty easily skippable (feel free to DM me for specifics! Some stuff is stuff that just makes me personally uncomfortable, so it could be different for others)

THERE'S NEVER GONNA BE A SEASON 3

There was a scene where one of my favorite characters kinda seemed like he was flirting with one of my other favorites and like. That ain't canon. Don't care for that for many reasons

If you're a fan of the Six of Crows books, you might be disappointed by how they mixed and matched elements from all the books. In that sense, it could seem a little choppy and rushed, but to be fair they thought they were gonna get canceled. And then they did

Unfortunately, Mal and Alina are still there (no hate I'm just kidding. I'm just a Crows girlie at heart so I find their scenes less interesting happy for all the Malina fans out there. *remembers the end* uh. sort of?)

THEY BROUGHT IN A PLOT LINE FROM THE KING OF SCARS DUOLOGY AND I'M STILL MAD ABOUT IT

And now for my preferred section: pros of S&B season two!

Okay I had to erase a bunch of spoiler-ful stuff and start over. It features a bunch of insanely cool characters who I'm obsessed with (including one of like three blond men I've ever had a crush on)

Inej gets to use this awesome sword at one point

It has some GOOD scenes from the Six of Crows series and I cannot pretend to be sad that we saw them

There's HEISTS and PLOTTING and COOL NON CANON CHARACTER TEAM UPS

It briefly hints at one of my other favorite Grishaverse ships and I gnash my teeth and lose my mind a little

OH MY GOSH THERE'S THIS CHARACTER YOU'LL REALLY REALLY LIKE he's this honorable soldier guy who's besties with one of my favorites and he's in like two episodes but I love and cherish him a lot

Honestly it's just a fun time. If you can accept that this isn't and never will be a completely accurate retelling and just enjoy yourself it's a riot

Nikolai is there and I love him a lot

OUTFIT DESIGNS!!!!!!!! I want Sturmhond's jacket more than anything in the world

Anyway thanks for the ask!! In my head there's a much more spoilerful version of this post where I just put people's names in all caps and scream a lot but suffice to say. It's a good season even if there are some parts that aren't perfect! But TL:DR, I would say yeah! Watch it if you liked season one!! Be prepared for some changes to canon and some content that could be a little unpleasant but like. *stares off into space picturing like ten different spoilerful scenes that are reasons you should watch it* it's good. It's fun. Okay there's my propaganda for and against!

THROWBACK TO THIS DISASTER INTERVIEW ABOUT EPISODE 9 (THE GREEN COUNCIL) 🤡

1. About Alicent's 'annoyed' feelings about Aegon becoming King!!!! (Because apparently there was NO valid reason to fear that her family would be wiped out if Rhaenyra, with Daemon's help, took the Iron Throne) Sure, Daemon would be as merciful as Rhaenyra (her ideal heir to the Iron Throne and besty) and spare Aegon, Aemond, Daeron and Helaena 😭🙆

2. About Fire and Blood accounts of Rhaenyra's weight. *Note that Helaena was also recorded as being plump from childbirth, not just Rhaenyra.*

3. About what Alicent would have done, had Rhaenys not escaped King's Landing and remained her prisoner. *While claiming that Alicent lets men 'steamroll' her, Hess also claims that Alicent would have the agency of letting Rhaenys live as a prisoner of war* 🙃 Kilner also throws some shade , dismissing Alicent's attempts at a unviolent resolution as 'still working within the patriarchy'.

4. About the choice of making adult Aegon a rapist right off the bat. Remember, kids. He's still a grey character. At least he's not sadistic like Joffery Baratheon. 🥴🥴🥴 Also, let's just ignore the actor's protest against that questionable writing choice before filming. They let him improvise in the end anyway, as a consolation prize. 🙃🙃🙃🥴
