My first Monster High Lagoona Blue doll restoration + process!!!
Heyy!! so a few days ago i mentioned i got a G1 Monster High doll and was going to restore her and share my process here so this is that post!! I’m literally blown away by the results I actually can’t believe how well I did for my first time and I had so much fun doing it!
Before and After
So as you can see, when she arrived her hair was a gluey and sticky MESS! It was all straggly and rock hard lol. Additionally her skin was stained and the accessories/stand were all dusty and a bit brown… so to the wash basin I went!!
I begun by giving her body, hair, and all the accessories (minus the clothing) a good wash in the sink in lukewarm water with both some hand soap and dishwashing soap. I did this using a toothbrush.
I also made sure to take off her fins so I wouldn’t lose them down the drain lol.
i set the washed accessories aside on a towel to dry.
Now that the hair was wet I went in with some conditioner and a comb to get all the knots out easier. I made sure to brush from the tips and move my way upwards. Surprisingly hardly any hair came out which I was baffled by considering when I brush my G3 dolls hair it fall out like CRAZY!
Anyway, next I washed out all the conditioner and went in with the goo remover. Since we don’t have ‘Goo Gone’ here in Australia I found this alternative spray at bunnings which worked sooooo well! I simply sprayed it multiple times in the hair, both roots and ends, then spent time really massaging it in all throughout the head with my fingers. I did this a few times over without rinsing between. I then set her aside to let it sink in for as long as I could.
Meanwhile I popped all her clothes in a mug of lukewarm water, laundry detergent powder and fabric softener, which helped them smell nicer hehe! I scrubbed them around and let it sit on the side. Once they had sat for a few hours, I layed them to dry, and made sure to sit the skirt upright and rounded nicely so it wouldn’t dry wonky.
After about 3-4 hours I came back and washed the goo remover out as thoroughly as possible. I made sure there was absolutely no scent of it left. I did this using shampoo and then once it was out I conditioned her hair for a second time to once again remove any knots.
Then it was time for the boil wash so I boiled the kettle and poured the hot water into a mug. I dipped her head in for about 15 seconds and then took it out twice.
I then went over to the sink and poured the water straight over her head to get the hair to lay down flat. BE CAREFUL THO cause I got it all over hand and burnt it a little cause I wasn’t paying attention hahah!
I popped her on the doll stand backwards so her hair wouldn’t get caught in it and brushed it all down so it could dry straight and perfect :)
I left her here overnight to make sure it was totally dry.
In the morning I dressed her back up in her clothes and accessories, then twisted her hair back and secured with a clear elastic.
And TAADAAA!! She’s finally done!! Her hair feels like ACTUAL SILK and it’s so shiny and smooth with absolutely no stickiness. I actually can’t believe this is the same doll i started off with. I’m so so happy with how she turned out and I can’t wait to get started on another G1 doll soon!!
Anyway yeah this was my process - I hope you enjoyed having a peek into it and maybe share around or like this post for it to get a little traction to hopefully help someone else on their first restoration journey☺️☺️☺️
Have a lovely day and remember to embrace your freaky flaws ;)
Xx

Went to the thrift store yesterday and argued with myself a lot over these Barbie sets but in the end I won (??)
I probably should have only stuck with the 1993 Mcdonalds BUT I couldn't tell what all was bundled in the others and had hoped it was some of the visibly missing parts like the menu base or the trash can flap. Alas.
I even went back in the thrift store again to go over every shelf & bag with a fine toothed comb in case the parts were separated but didn't find them. I did find the extra bag of tables and teal chairs 😅
I would like to stick this in one Detolf shelf but it is like a scant 1/4" too tall. I gotta rig something to raise the shelf above just a tiny bit so it fits.
I guess it's been long enough since I worked at McDs that it's not traumatic any more 🥲 The colors on this set just have me in a chokehold.
Back then, I was paid minimum wage working drive thru in an extremely busy store. Even as a physically fit 20yr old, 8hrs in that environment hurt. And that was with one lane wrapped around the building. I don't understand how folks survive with the two lanes they do now. I couldn't see individual faces after an hour or two, the same person could come back 10min later and I didn't recognize them. Humans aren't built for this nonsense. Plus smelling like a fryer all the time and then getting a paycheck that barely covered bills. Ooh that went darker than I meant!

so i purchased some interesting dolls
I was thrifting with my wife when i saw these girlies, the outfits caught my eye immediately so i bought them. Let me tell you how actually interesting this find is.
These two are wearing a miniature version of the 2015 Qantas airlines uniform.
now this isn't that weird right? there have been lots of air hostess barbies over the years, except these were commissioned by Qantas. In 2015 to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the company's founding, Qantas hired designer Martin Grant to create a miniature version of the company's latest uniform to be displayed in the Qantas lounge and later the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences in Sydney to go along with a collection donated posthumously by John Willmott–Potts here’s an article with more info on that.
however Qantas also commissioned a small Adelaide based doll clothing artist who goes by Margellen to create 5 other replica dolls for their social media campaign.
According to Margellen’s blog the dolls were flown out all over the world to be photographed for Qantas’ social media. However the one in-front of the Sydney opera house is the only one i can find.
here are Margellen’s dolls reboxed before being sent out.
now the ladies i ended up with:
this one seems to be a finished doll, her dress is nicely lined so shes probably an extra or a doll that was donated after the media campaign ended right?
this is the other doll she was with, while they look similar there are actually a lot of differences.
her belt is a separate plastic accessory and not a sewn on ribbon.
the edges are raw and unfinished!!!
the black closure is glued on velcro instead of sewn on snaps
hand sewn darts probably done to adjust the pattern before the final
so i believe these girlies are prototypes of Margellen’s work, i have no idea how they ended up in a thrift store in Sydney but I’m very glad to have them in my life. The finished piece is so well made it feels better than some human clothes I’ve had.
Margellen’s socials haven’t been active in a few years so i hope she is doing well, if this post somehow makes it back to her i would love to hear more about her lovely creations. I haven’t given my girls a proper clean yet as i wanted to document them as they looked when i first got them, my plan now is to clean and display them together and find them some 2015 barbie style black pumps to match the original vision.

Thrift store stuff I didn't get -- Hula Hair Teresa (?) no thanks!! I did one Hula Hair and don't need to ever again, dang fluffy too light nonsense
Very pretty Barbies if I collected Barbie. Which I don't! I don't!
And I did buy this $4.99 huge bag of utter nonsense purely for the Distraction. Had a little bit of potential, but mostly I could see there were not matches for the 18" doll shoes so I didn't have much hope. Looks like the sorters got tired and dumped the bottom of the bin into one rubbish bag together.
Here we are all spread out!
These are my favorite things, Malibu tank top and a big jar to go in the Sweet Shop (needs washed)
These are my LEAST favorite things, used earrings and Elf on the Shelf merch 🤢

Today one of my cats needed to undergo a cardiac checkup, which was going to take a few hours . . . but also the clinic was an hour's drive from my house so it would have been pointless to go home only to turn around and drive right back again. So instead I hit all the local thrift shops (which had the added bonus of letting me pick up items I could sell to offset vet bills, ha ha) while I waited for the clinic to let me know I could pick him up.
So, Goodwill is a widespread thrift store in the US, most of which are set up something like a typical store (except nothing is new in box obviously), with items divvied up by category. The toys are in one area, the blouses are all on the same rack and are sorted by size, etc etc.
However, there are also Goodwill Outlet stores which instead have long blue troughs on wheels, with items thrown in higglety pigglety.
Shoppers scrabble through the items, and periodically the employees shoo them away, remove a whole row of troughs from the floor, and roll out new troughs. The shoppers hover around, and as soon as the employees give the word everyone falls upon the new troughs like a feeding frenzy.
Not only that, but at these Goodwills you pay for goods by the pound. I think the price varies by location; at this one it was $1.26 per pound.
I've been to Goodwill Outlets before but never found many toys (though I did pick up a duvet I've used for over 10 years and I once found a perfect condition Fluppy Dog), but this one? OMG. SO many toys! I found two G1 ponies, a G3 Ponyville playset, a Barbie jeep from the 90s and so much more.
Anyway, if you have a Goodwill Outlet store near you I recommend checking it out, the chaos is pretty fun.
#Goodwill#thrifting#My Little Pony#Barbie#I also found a vintage Doodle Bear#and a non-vintage Kitty Surprise (no babies)
