Reccer says: This fic has a wonderfully unique set piece, a lovely original backstory for Lucien, and vivid descriptions. It's an excellent tale of self-acceptance.

Wine-Dark Sea by fruitzbat (161010, Mature) Warnings: This piece is pretty heavily focused on post-traumatic, post-apocalyptic and post-genocidal themes. Most of the POV characters are struggling with some form of PTSD. Pairings: Kingsley/Original Character, Fjord/Jester.

Kingsley has just freed himself from something extraordinarily traumatic and is trying to rebuild something after it -- the question is more *what*.

Reccer says: This is a sequel to another iconic Kingsley-centric fic that may have already made the list; unlike the first, this is slower in pace and focuses a lot more on the characterization. I love the way that, while it does have some focus on his relationship to a supporting character, it's entirely about exploring Kingsley (as a character)'s relationship to the notion of free choice. His character arc in this is really well done. The themes are quite heavy, but are explored very thoughtfully and with the weight that they deserve.

In which Kingsley discovers that the last occupant of his body had a younger sister.

Reccer 1 says: I think the most compelling thing to come out of the Nine Eyes of Lucien was that Lucien had a sister living in Rexxentrum the entire time. I like this fic's characterization of Kingsley, and the soft and heartbreaking reunion. Reccer 2 says: One of the thoughts that loomed largest in my mind after finishing Nine Eyes was "What would happen if King learned about Aldreda?" and this fic is *such* an interesting, emotion-filled exploration of that. Things did not play out how I expected they would in the best of ways, which is all I'll say on that. Never enough Kingsley fic in the world and getting into his head and how he would handle things was so fascinating and enjoyable here. Also, Essek and Kingsley's friendship is to die for and an excellent side to this fic!

Crowned Teeth (Or, An Offering Revoked) by fruitzbat (130,570, Teen) Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence Pairings: Kingsley Tealeaf/Original Character

After a standard trip towards the Bay of Gifts goes horribly wrong, Kingsley finds himself trapped and vowing to himself to hold those responsible to the light -- betrayed, isolated, and far from home, Kingsley must carve out his own destiny and forge a legacy he can say is worthy of those who came before him.

Reccer 1 says: This fic is absolutely amazing on every level, taking a sentence worth of a setting and expanding it into a beautiful bunch of worldbuilding. The original characters are amazing, the lore is air-tight, and it reads very much like a canon novel I could pick up in a bookstore. There is romance towards the end, but I consider it more of a "story with kissing" as opposed to "kissing with story" and the relationships between King and his crew are all developed well. This is also the first fic in a trilogy and all of them are worth a read. Reccer 2 says: This has some of the best worldbuilding I’ve ever seen in a fic. The world of piracy and sailing Kingsley inhabits is painstakingly described and true to life, and the portrayal of Kingsley’s state of mind, his friends and his enemies here is on point. I highly recommend this whole series for anyone who likes to wonder what Kingsley’s time on the seas and eventual journey to become Plank King might have entailed.

C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will

i fear this is an incredibly boring answer but widomauk has never compelled me and probably never will. it's kind of a shame because i like the idea of the whole threeleaf situation but unfortunately neither molly nor kingsley realized into characters that i would personally be interested in

N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).

here are three types of fics that i wish we saw more of:

pre-canon fic/fic based off of the origins comics; i respect absolutely everybody's decision if they don't care to engage in that sort of offshoot canon but regardless of the comics i feel like there is a lot of character backstory that was slowly revealed during the campaign that would be interesting to delve more into

explicit fics; critrole has always had one of the lowest ratios of explicit fics amongst fandoms i peruse and i don't understand why

AUs that are genuinely set in an alternate universe and not just a divergent canonverse; the canon universe is a huge sandbox and the nature of dnd definitely encourages "what if" thinking, so i get it, but i think there is always interesting work that can only be done by shaking a character into a totally different context

P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas)

ok hear me out i know vampires and werewolves are not new but they factually fell out of favour quite a while ago and i think in the name of nostalgia and also all my personal interests, we should bring those sorts of AUs back :)

NOTES: Now that CR Wildflowers reveals are up, I can officially link the two fics I wrote. Here's my gift for @circuslollipop. HI GI, I GOT ASSIGNED YOU TWO YEARS IN A ROW.

Mollymauk Tealeaf does not know many things on purpose. Knowledge is an exhausting burden. It’s far more liberating to just say I don’t know and move on with your life without any sort of expectations from other people. He benefits from the assumption that he’s stupid (which he isn’t) and assumptions are the cornerstone of a good con.

But there are exactly three things he knows by heart, written into the very fabric of his being. He knows the moors belong to the Moonweaver; he knows his Tarot cards are not bullshit; and, most importantly, he knows that no one ever chooses to be a monster hunter.

(Lucien says that’s an assumption, but given that the only monster hunters they know are each other and neither of them- nor Kingsley- had actually set out with this in mind, it remains uncontested.)

All three are relevant in the here and now. The first because he and his brothers are riding through the moors with Catha and Ruidus both overhead, the former obscured by a few errant clouds and the latter flashing like a faulty lamplight and painting the thick mist on the ground bloody red. As for the second, Molly has to believe the Moonweaver blesses the open spaces where her glow isn’t hindered by tower or tree because to think otherwise is to face that the Tealeaf triplets are willingly wandering through dangerous territory with nothing on their side (and she has been on their side since the day they were born, Ruidus-blessed or cursed, and taken in by a halfling woman wearing a silver moonbow when they could have been thrown down a well for being devils- Lucien tried to say it was just luck, but Molly has always known better).

The third is obvious- if there were any other option, not a fucking one of them would be here on the moors tonight listening to the werewolves baying at too close a distance for comfort.

lucien: the only one still on tumblr. also has a tiktok where he makes edgy thirst trap videos. constantly gets in twitter fights with molly. his only followers on tumblr are the other tomb takers and he'd like to keep it that way. blew up on tiktok after molly made a video making fun of him. also frequents reddit

molly: youtuber, instagrammer, tiktokker. has a decent following on all three. gets into twitter fights with lucien. makes clickbait-y youtube videos called "STORYTIME: I DIED TWICE (NOT CLICKBAIT)", "MY HARVEST CLOSE FESTIVAL HAUL <3", "I MADE MY HIMBO ROOMMATE DO MY MAKEUP", and "REACTING TO MY BROTHER'S EDGY TIKTOKS". used to have a tumblr but got flagged as explicit after the Ban and has left ever since

kingsley: only ever uses snapchat. king

as for what they like to do with jester? well i had a cute idea where she takes them to a bakery since it's implied lucien has a sweet tooth and i like to think that's true for all three. also i think molly and jester would have a lot of fun at the arcade together! they get super competitive playing dance dance revolution hehe. jester also makes frequent appearances in his videos (and vice versa!) theyre also both art students so they're in each other's classes a lot

not sure what kingsley's major would be. lucien is a business major.

Question: why doesn't ur au have the trio match the flowers they are named after? I know u said earlier that someone else did it and u didn't wanna copy em, but multiple ideas and concepts can exist at once, and its ok!

There's a story reason for that, actually!

You may notice that I have Geeta dress as the Lotus flower rather than the Threeleaf Arrowhead that she is named after. It's meant to be wrong.

Same goes for the Paldea trio, they don't match their flowers. Pechakeen forces them into roles based on what their desires are and how she can make them better, rather than what matches them.

During Mochi Desires AU story, the Paldea trio's flowers don't match up. They don't belong in these roles. However, after Mochi Desires AU, they're wearing colors that fit their flowers, and they wouldn't want to go back and wear the masks Pechakeen made them wear before!

So it's like a both sides of the designs win. They get to match their desires and match their flowers.

Mollymauk Week: Day 1

This is easily my favorite piece I've done! Also yes it is sun and Moon, but since I wanted to invoke all the tealeaves. I made Lucien the eclipse.

For Mollymauk week, I've done a mix of art an stories for our blood hunter! I hope you all enjoy them!

I’m wondering how in a Threeleafs AU the tiefs would become blood hunters, and this is how I’ve figured it out:

Lucien comes into the Claret Orders first and does so willingly, bc the Orders promise him power if he can survive their trials. but at the same time he resents them, and chafes at restrictions and sanctions placed on him until he snaps and leaves.

Molly is second, bc he wants to be able to defend himself, and there’s a little overlap between them, but I imagine he’s the first to leave between the two of them. he’s got no hard feelings toward the Claret Orders on his own behalf, but living in the same castle as Lucien sort of throws into stark relief that they have VERY different morals and views on how to use to blood hunters abilities. I like to think he multiclasses into something support - I can see him picking up bard as a class if only he can find some way to boost his CHA stat.

Kingsley gets the Grey Warden treatment later in life as he’s starting his pirate career, where a blood hunter invokes some ancient treaty to spring this pirate from jail so he can assist them and then talks him into joining. there’s no overlap with his brothers, Molly’s with the circus by then and Lucien’s leading the Tomb Takers, but he likely gets told a lot about them as part of the Orders. I think his main class is firmly established as swashbuckler rogue, so all this really does is now his sneak attacks can do LIGHTNING damage. he also leaves the Orders REALLY QUICK but still asks for their help every so often when he runs across some shit while pirating.
