One of the problems with being both a nerd and someone with a minor special interest in fragrance and perfume is that I put in a casual throwaway mention of someone's cologne and immediately went "wait what could that be" and proceeded to compile a list of options from MY OWN SAMPLE COLLECTION (bar Eau de Audacity which I've smelled but they didn't have a sample of when I went)
Anyway if anyone wants "warm amber" fragrance recs to imagine your character wearing to a gala, here you go, I've added descriptions but they're usually a vanilla, resin, and/or incense base with some kind of spice, tonka, leather or wood note as the focus (though there are a few surprises), and I've linked their Fragrantica pages for more detail! Several of these are cross-recommended for each other, so if you like one on the list it's worth checking out a couple of the others.
Penhaligon
The World According to Arthur (my all time favourite, wore this to my wedding reception)
Terrible Teddy (another favourite, amber incense and leather)
Eau de Audacity (bold, orange blossom, frankincense and pepper over vanilla and leather)
Le Labo
Vetiver 46 (woody with strong vetiver and spice notes, the vanilla and amber take a back seat)
Kuumba Made
Amber Paste [now discontinued] (Musc Rav's sneaky cheaper alternative; opens pine resiny but quickly settles into a gorgeous vanilla tonka blend that lasts AGES)
Amber & Sandalwood (similar to above with more wood and resin rather than sweet)

Musc Ravageur (complex head turner that opens with with lavender, bergamot, then shifts to clove and sandalwood on a vanilla tonka base)

Gentle Fluidity Silver (beautifully blended juniper and nutmeg over bergamot, cedar and vanilla, a clean, woody amber)
Grand Soir (hits like vanilla bourbon, softens out as it goes; not for people who have sensitive noses or an aversion to boozy scents)

#am i insufficiently kinglike?#i recently joined a fragrance discord and I'm having the time of my life#note I'm in the UK so not sure all of these will be available for everyone#also i am a firm believer in the power of samples and not blind buying bc you don't know how your skin chemistry will affect scents#e.g. penhaligon's new one Dandy is marketed as a strong whiskey fragrance but on my skin it's almost all wood notes and no booze#like i got the barrel and not the drink#good! but not how the fragrance is meant to smell#grand soir does for me what dandy was supposed to#on a related note penhaligans does a three samples for the price of shipping deal and they don't have all their fragrances but it is a good#way to try out multiple options for much cheaper without blind buying#also discovery sets my beloved#a lot of big department stores w/ a fragrance section will have samples of their popular options! stand-alone stores have more!#I'm lucky bc Edinburgh has a penhaligon and a le labo so I've been able to get way more than i might otherwise#also a John Lewis and a Harrods Beauty which have both been great#if you're in the US try Macy's#kain's unprofessional advice

Recent-ish life pictures and etc.
#image commentary in tags once again since they don't allow captions anymore and I feel weird using the alt text for that --#1. bright very poofy cloud sky#2. saw these weird bugs on a sidewalk that were clustered in a pile and some of them were sitting butt to butt or something.. ARBY.. fish ...traditional summer treat available only until like september maybe for like a month. but I love them because theyre cheap#lol.. the next closest/cheapest fried fish sort of option that is easily acessible to me is a more upscale fast food place where you can ge#three tiny little chunks of fish maybe the palm of your hand sized for about $17 lol... so 4 arby fried fish chunks for like $5 is good#6. & 7 - very cool sunset colored sort of pink/yellow/orange flower I found growing wild in someone's yard#8. got as a gift from someone who got it for christmas but didn't really want it and asked if I did since everyone knows Im like The Person#Who's Obsessed With Cats out of any group of people.. but I still havent done it lol.. it just sits there gathering dust until I have#the time on top of my 600 other projects. #personal#the engineering chronicles#on the one hand how the mighty have fallen etc but on the other. thank FUCK this semester is over#it wasn’t even that bad objectively like if i hadn’t had the musical im pretty sure this semester would have been a breeze. but w the#musical everything was so scattered i never had time to do hw and i had to skip classes to meet w ppl for group projects bc the only time#any of us were available was in the mornings except then the meetings would go later than planned and i wouldn’t be able to make it to#my morning class and. etc. rehearsals till 10 like 5 times a week just did not work on in this regard. BUT WE DID IT <3 scraped a b- out of#physics w my highest test score in that class and will likely end probability w a b#<- he put in my final exam grade (88 🥳) but there are still three labs that need to be graded so technically my grade could fall to a b- or#c+ but neither is likely#still mad abt that 60 i got on the last exam bc if i had done as well on that exam as i did every other exam for this class i could have#ended w a b+ or a- but. whatever i’m just relieved this courseload is over with. even if i will be thrown right back into everything in a#week at least there is this week for me to relax and not feel awful for failing even more classes this year lmao

I wish GI wasn't trying to push people (kinda specifically longer players) away from the game, like damn. I really hope new players are watching closely and not just deciding "there are haters" or "complainers." Some of the things, like the age old where's the end-of-game road map, have been actual game needs that haven't been addressed for years. Game needs, guys. before the sammy b was found, the uss johnston was the deepest shipwreck ever found and prior to this, theyve only released ~10 second clips from that dive and ahhh my autism is feral with excitement right now

trying to borrow an online library book but all my cards are expired PAIN
#out of the three libraries im a part of only one has an available copy#and thats the card i had to pay for since i technically dont live in that area#but it was saying i could use my cards from my other two libraries#but since i havent actually gone in so long they're due for a renewal and i can only do that in person 😞#if i think about it i might try to go renew one before work tomorrow but by then i can just get my copy from home lol#i wanted to read neow 😞#my punishment for not utilizing my library more often 😞

Same anon as a second ago I'm just in your GTTM tag and seeing infinity train listed as an inspiration makes SO MUCH SENSE. like I'm fairly certain I said to my friend while reading that the tally marks being past scout's wrist and going up the arm was Simoncore

Infinity Train is one of my favourite shows (and don't even get me started on how pissed I am that it was cancelled!) so I'm not surprised I took inspiration from it lol.
