“Ezra?” Jax repeated his squadmate’s name for the fifth time into his coms, but all he get in return was static. Or, well-- it actually sounded like wind. There might be a faraway voice in the background somewhere, but that could just be wishful thinking.

The endorphins and adrenaline should be subsiding the nerves, but fucking hell, if something happened to Ezra-- They’d only lost Jenkins moments ago, for fuck’s sake!

Stop. Focus. FOCUS.

“Ezra, if you can hear me, make a noise. Any noise.” There was no noise.

Jax resisted the urge to turn off his coms in frustration. He’d throw them to the ground and step on them, but it wasn’t exactly like he could extract the communication device from his suit.

Forcing himself to focus on his surroundings, Jax tightening his grip on his assault rifle. Poised on the offensive, he continued towards the unearthing site. Nothing moved within his line of sight; no sythetics, no people. He passed a few corpses but didn’t give them a proper glance. As long as they weren’t impaled on black spikes, they were no danger to him or his squadmates.

When they finally reached a clearing...shit. The monolith was supposed to be here! Where--

“That’s one of ours!” Ashely’s voice came from behind Jax. She pointed to the center of the clearing, and Jax had to take several steps forward so he could...

“Ezra!” Jax’s steps turned into sprints. He rushed to where Ezra’s body lay, sprawled out on the ground. Jax expected to see his gun dropped within proximity, but... No, it was holstered. All his weapons were holstered. He must’ve been caught off guard. “Ezra, can you hear me?”

Weekend Update 02/25/2024

Nerdie! You saw it right! He won! *hugs tightly*

Yes he did! 🥰 We're all so happy for him! Finally!

We're also buzzing about how he looks like he's on the cover of a romance novel. Maybe on a ranch, maybe in the 1800's. It's a pretty versatile look. He likes his deep V's....

As we all should. Also, I'm taking notes on that. *scribbles*

Anything new besides, well clearly pirate adventures?

Pirates have scurvy and Pedro is well nourished so none of that. Other ideas for his characters. Ezra and Pero might have scurvy though. I did manage to write some this week. It's been busy. 👀 Ugh...real life stuff. Nothing major. Just needs to be done.

The insanity will only increase with part three but maybe there might be some growth between Tim and Doc? Or a hippo.)

Part three of the Javi G summer romance

Maybe...Roc & Doc part three I don't like sitting on finished parts but then I whine about having no motivation for the next part. 👀 I make no sense.

March is toward the end of the week so my March Spring Prompts will start! I scheduled the first six days I think. I got anxious about getting behind (which isn't the point of doing them but anxiety doesn't care) and did some in advance. I like how they're coming along and that they're short. Unlike this update. 🤣 They won't have summaries, but will have warnings, tags and notes.

And because I hear series and I think "I should start another one!" I decided to write an Ezra series. How did I happen upon our favorites prospector/scoundrel/reluctant father figure? I've been reading works by @morallyinept @maggiemayhemnj and @magpiepills

Ezra intimidated me because of his language, but actually, I think I'd get along with him because he puts on a persona with a great deal of performance. It's the audience's job to figure out if you're serious or not. Or at least that's how I approached him. 🤨 This could go badly. I stuck him on the bayou with an air boat and I want him to cook gumbo. *full delusional achievement unlocked*

Also to @inept-the-magnificent who called Tim Rockford her sidepiece and I am still very tickled. 🤣

Surprisingly, despite his anger and fear for his son’s wellbeing, Jax found it in himself to laugh. Softly, a gentle sound rumbling deep in his throat, but a chuckle nonetheless.

“I believe the pottery wheel would be the safest option until you get older, kiddo.” He told him, working on the next row of stitches. He knew the tourniquet would start getting painful rather quickly, blood trying to force its way through closed capillaries and veins, but he had to keep it tied off until he at least got closer to the dermis. One more row of clear threaded stitches- the kind that would dissolve as it healed- and he was able to take off the leather strap of his belt from Ezra’s bicep, gently massaging his son’s now purple mottled hand and injured forearm until it started regaining warmth and color.

“I hope you learned your lesson, Ezra. I know you’re not gonna listen to me all the time, but you know I put rules like this in place to keep you safe. And now you know firsthand.” The greying Clone sighed, starting on black plastisteel threaded stitches to pull his skin back to itself. “You’re excused from helping me in the field while you’re healing up. Shouldn’t take too long if I give you a healing session every day. But don’t think you’re escaping punishment, young man.”

Ezra nodded. “Okay....” He said simply. “I think Sajpr would get mad if I broke his pottery wheel though....” he continued to joke lightly, trying not to know nervousness as he watched Jax sew up his arm. “Or it’ll spun and I’ll break my leg on it.”

“I.... learned my lesson.....” Ezra said. “I really don’t want to do that again, that really hurt.” Ezra listened quietly, nodding. He winced. “What’s.... what’s the punishment....?” He asked Jax.
