DJ glanced over at the possum that had crawled out and held out a carrot, watching it snatch it before going to eat it under the tree. "Not sure you're ever gonna be able to take em home, but least they swing by," he said as he went back to checking over his fishing pole. Spending time in the woods with Jerico had become a new part of the routine to get to know him without the pressure of an enclosed space. "You and Bella gonna pop by for Christmas, or just gonna do your own thing? Maya planning on making you cookies, promise they'll be edible if a little funky lookin."

He sighed, leaning in to press a kiss to Bella's forehead, pausing for a moment, a hesitant look on his face. "Oh, um. I should probably mention that my sister showed up here a little bit ago. Maybe a week? I wasn't trying to hide it I just keep getting distracted. I'm sorry. I'm still sort of trying to process the fact that she's here."

it had been years since capernaum leeds had last stepped foot in huntsville, and yet everything seemed so familiar. she remembered all of her old stomping grounds, knew exactly which path to take to easily get to where she was going, but things felt different somehow. huntsville felt like a ghost town these days, a heavy cloud setting on top of it and refusing to leave. but caper couldn't bring herself to regret coming back, not when it came to looking for her little brother.

she'd followed a trail of answers to family video. most people seemed to be at least aware of jerico, and that was enough to get the eldest of the two where she was going. but when caper stepped inside and her eyes fell on her little brother, she felt her heart stop for a second with nerves, every single what if flashing through her mind before she plucked up the courage to say anything.

"Aye, Silver," Jerico reached out to gently tug on Dime's hair, quirking an eyebrow. "One of these days you really should join me in my determination to never wear a glamour unless it becomes a law. It's way more freeing, you know." He paused for a minute. "Unless you really are just a human who's super cool about a lot of stuff real fast. I guess I didn't really consider that one too much."

"Yeah? You think? Cuz that bow tie rules." Jerico perked up a little at the idea. "And thank god I have a skilled shopper with me, because I mean.... look at me. It's not like I have a whole lot of fashion sense anyway. I've been wearing the same stuff since high school basically." Not that there was a large variety of clothes for him to choose from, but honestly, it was easier that way. "Well good, cuz like. That baby can have all the attention when it comes out, you know? While it's cooking.... mind ya business."

Jessie laughed and shook her head. “Of course you’re not terrible. But I would be honoured to help you shop, that’s actually a very big skill of mine,” she joked. “You know, I bet we could get you a black bow tie and get one of the seamstresses in town to embroider it with some white thread, use the design from Jack’s bow tie,” she mused. “Of course I’ll be there! I wouldn’t miss it, I promise.”

"I can't do this," Jerico murmured, ears red from the cold and embarrassment. "I've never been skating before, Bells. I can barely keep my balance on solid ground, let alone slippery ground." Despite his protests, he was allowing Bella to coax him onto the frozen lake. "I'm gonna break my face."

on family video's slower days, it wasn't uncommon for bella and jerico to dim the lights and put a movie on. it gave the illusion that they were at a movie theater, cuddled up next to each other in the dark like it was some sort of date or something. she would never admit it out loud, but those days were her favorite. so as she finished picking out a film and making a ozy viewing area out of blankets she kept hidden under the counter, she couldn't help the excited look on her face.

"okay, i put something dumb on," she muttered now, plopping down on the floor, arguably too close to jerico. but before bella could settle in, she was turning to face him, hands coming to grasp at his thigh as a means to get his attention. "we need to pick out our costumes for the pumpkin festival. i know it's stupid to do something matching, so we don't have to do that, but we do need to dress up. that's the best part about this thing."

As G looked at him for the first time since Jerico found him, he saw a glimmer of something turning behind them. "Even like this," he offered softly. "Your parents never really understood you. Esther was..... Probably going through their own shit. It's a lot, sometimes, for loved ones to understand right away." It wasn't an excuse; but a fact. "I'll always come out to find you. I think I have a pretty good G radar, personally." He shot him a smile. "Josie cares about you a lot. I have no idea what you guys talk about, but I have a feeling this had to have come up at least once; and if it hasn't, well. I guess now is as good a time as any for it to."

Shaking his head, Jerico was firm. "No. You never fuck up my day. You're one of my best friends, more of a brother to me than any of my real ones ever were. Sometimes, we fall, or get tripped up. What matters is who you have around you that are willing to help you pick yourself up again."

He's not going to drag him home. And maybe, that's all G needs- someone to understand he can make his way there on his own, a little faith. "Okay." He adjusts, shifting his bass in his lap slightly as Jerico moves to stand. The thought hovers in his head for a moment. It's hard to recognize, like this- that people love him at all, in his eyes he's everything his parents insisted he was when he was 'bad' and something worse beyond that, a thing to be reviled.

People want him to stick around. "even like this?" He questions, suddenly, blue eyes glancing up from his lap to center on Jerico for the first time since he arrived, somewhat focused- a bit of a break, from the crashing waves. "I... Even like this? I uh. When this happened the first time... Esther told me I was faking it- our pa-parents insisted I was lying, So I- I thought that just." It's easy to let the way people mistreated him overwhelm the kindness. "but... but my parents aren't..." he motions. "And Esther was... okay. with me being around again. And you came out to find me... And Josie..." Suddenly he feels rather terrible for making his friends worry. "Well. I- I've sure gone and fucked up both of our days with this, huh?"

Jerico wasn't necessarily good at making friends - partly because he never really liked using a glamour. But there was something specifically about Bella that was different - what exactly it was, he didn't know, but he liked that she wanted to be around him so much she agreed to date him (maybe it was the devil energy).

"You ever think about what it would like to be a fish?" It wasn't an unusual question for him - as the pair walked through the building, he had been asking her a variety of odd questions. "Like, you know, Minnie is a mermaid, but not that - like what would it be like if your supernatural ability was to just. Be a fish?"

on october 31st, it started as a rumble: a low sound deep within the earth. the telephone poles and street signs began to sway. the ground shifted and opened up: a jagged split down the middle of main street, three feet wide and fifty feet long, revealing a black void beneath.

buildings cracked and crumbled. the huntsville bank lost a third of it's structure; the shelves in the library toppled and crashed into each other; pete's garage collapsed completely; the playground in the park slid to an angle.

the earthquake destroyed all the booths and stalls for the festival. a fire broke out in one of the haunted houses. a pipe burst, spraying the street with water. destruction and devastation reigned down upon main street.

it lasted a total of five minutes before the ground and dust settled and people were able to take stock of what just happened. Mayor Natasha rounded up the police and fire departments, sending them on a search and rescue to ensure everyone was recovered in some form or another and to put out the fires and check that every door with a protection rune remained intact.

shock and horror gained traction over the course of the next several hours, as reports came in. three individuals were killed and dozens were injured. Sunflower Parsons was declared missing, as her body was not recovered and no one could remember where they saw her last.

the list of deaths were posted the next morning: Minnie Garcia, Sammie Thompson, and Zoë Clark.

Jerico DeAngelo:

In my late teens through my early twenties, I went by the stage name Anthony Christian, boasting stage and film credits under that moniker. However, fate took a twist when another actor claimed the name. Upon joining the Screen Actors Guild, I had to reinvent myself.

In a moment of poetic rebirth, my mother bestowed upon me a new name—Jerico. Little did I know, its roots traced back to 'yareakh' or 'Yarikh,' an ancient moon god. A name with celestial ties.

But the story doesn't end there. In a vivid dream, an Angel whispered 'DeAngelo' to me—the name translating to 'of the angel.' The next morning, fueled by this celestial encounter, I officially became Jerico DeAngelo when I joined SAG once again.

Life's journey is woven with threads of identity, and mine is a tapestry of names and stories, each marking a unique chapter.

"Yeah it's really not my scene." As they stepped up to the booth, Jerico waved his hand. "I'll get our treats - this just means you gotta hang out with me more."

Esther scowled at Jerico pointing out their mistake. They were usually better about not bringing up Absinthe in front of others. "She could be the second coming of Christ, you never know," they teased, saving face.

It was a relief to know their friend wasn't going to the ball either. It made Esther feel less...weird, knowing they weren't the only one that didn't like these kinds of things. "Yeah, Deen and I aren't bothering. Too many people," they wrinkled their nose.
