as anti-social as she was, bella enjoyed working the front desk at the library for one reason: it allowed them to people-watch. they liked seeing who came in at what times, liked knowing what books they were checking out or what piqued their interest in that moment. they didn't particularly like interacting with the people, but sometimes sacrifices had to be made. but there was one specific library-goer that always made her clam up the second she saw him, and as he waltzed through the door now, bella felt her mouth go dry. how was she supposed to function when she was breathing the same air as him?

"good morning," she croaked, immediately clearing her throat. maybe he wouldn't look up at all and keep strolling by? but the accidental eye contact that she made with him was about to determine what happened next.

sitting with people silently was a talent bella had perfected years ago. so when someone sat down beside them without saying a single thing, all they did was scoot over a little to make some room. somehow they already knew it would be mara, and as they glanced up from their book, they flashed the other a soft smile. "hi. it's nice to see you."

bella had gone quiet. even as jerico pulled them into his lap and kissed their nose, all they could do was scowl and stare down at their hands. who knew that planning a wedding would make them feel like a complete failure? "it's just a lot," they finally muttered, their eyes rolling before they lifted them to meet jerico's gaze. "and i hate to say it, but i'll be glad when the whole thing is over, if only because i feel like a ball of stress most days. i don't like that." bella huffed, slipping off of jerico's lap once more and leaning to press a swift kiss to his lips. "i'm gonna go take a bath or something. maybe rotting in the tub for a couple hours will help me stop being so miserable? unlikely, but it's worth a shot."

"Hey - don't look so sad," Jerico immediately scooped Bella back up into his lap, kissing across the bridge of her nose. "We're still making good time. You and Val will definitely think of something. I'll see if I maybe can't get some extra help from our friends. I'm sure Lucy, Parker and probably even Jessie would be happy to help, even if it's just something small." He leaned forward to kiss her this time, lingering an extra beat. "We're gonna figure it out. I promise."

Hello! This blog is by Tabitha “Purrmage” Cummings. I’m a traditional mixed media fantasy character artists based in Connecticut, USA. This blog is for me to post my art, screenshots/recordings, and fanfic snippets (and maybe eventually an actual full length fanfic? 👀👀) relating to my first Dragon Age: The Veilguard playthrough with my Grey Warden Rook, Naimeryn “Naimy” Thorne, with whom I’m completely obsessed. She’s romancing Lucanis Dellamorte! This blog WILL feature spoilers for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, if you haven’t played it/if you make different decisions. I’m mostly making this because I started posting snippets to Threads, but Threads doesn’t actually organize it’s… threads… very well and people were having trouble reading. I hope this will alleviate that issue!

PLEASE NOTE: I write down fanfic snippets as they come to me, and so they aren’t in chronological order as far as the game is concerned. Additionally, I have not actually finished my first playthrough of Veilguard yet, so there may be edits later to account for things I’m misremembering/things that don’t actually make sense with the actual game, etc etc. this is not an AU, this basically is just my headcanon for how the game went for my Rook, filling in blanks, embellishing scenes to fit her character more, etc.

SPOILER ALERT. If you are not as far into the game as I am/have made different decisions and don’t know what happens if you make the opposite choice, there may be spoilers for you within what I’ve written, drawn, or screenshotted/recorded. Please read at your own discretion.

CONTENT AND/OR TRIGGER WARNINGS: I will try to put any relevant CW/TW information at the introduction of each snippet [I do an introduction to each scene in brackets like this for my own reference, and hopefully it will help readers as well]. I’m not an erotica writer, so if I mark something “mature” it’s likely steamy but not spicy (if I try my hand at spice, I’ll be sure to indicate that, but generally it’s just gonna be steamy. I think that fits the innocence of the relationship between my Rook and Lucanis, anyway, personally). In general, you will likely see mostly a strong language tag, though there is one snippet that very, VERY vaguely hints at SA (it’s intended to be implied, but nothing explicit is said). I hope this will help everyone read and enjoy comfortably!

ADDITIONAL NOTE: Taash’s story arch in the game included them coming out as non-binary. However, before they come out to Rook, they use she/her pronouns. I write in third person, from my Rook, Naimeryn’s, point of view, so the reader only knows what Naimeryn knows, and so, just as in the game, before Taash comes out, she/her pronouns will be used, and then they/them pronouns will be used once Naimeryn is aware that Taash is non-binary. I will also include this disclaimer before any snippets in which Taash is referred to by she/her pronouns.

Part of the reason Bella had bought this apartment was for the tub, though she hadn't been considering sharing it with anyone at the time. But she'd taken one look at him when he'd come home, how he was favouring that shoulder just a bit, and ushered him in without a second thought.

She threads soapy hands through his hair, massaging gently at his temples as he lets out that pleased hum, sinking a little further into the water between her knees.

"I don't think you have, Nicky darling." She's speaking in almost a hush, not wanting to disturb the calmness of the moment. "Will you tell me?"

bella's brows pulled together curiously, the corners of their mouth threatening to twitch into a smile. "i often think about how great the library is, and part of that is why i started working here to begin with. nothing excites me more than being surrounded by books all day, and i'm aware that that makes me sound like a geek." they chuckled softly, their eyes finally finding the other. "what're you picking up today?"

on family video's slower days, it wasn't uncommon for bella and jerico to dim the lights and put a movie on. it gave the illusion that they were at a movie theater, cuddled up next to each other in the dark like it was some sort of date or something. she would never admit it out loud, but those days were her favorite. so as she finished picking out a film and making a ozy viewing area out of blankets she kept hidden under the counter, she couldn't help the excited look on her face.

"okay, i put something dumb on," she muttered now, plopping down on the floor, arguably too close to jerico. but before bella could settle in, she was turning to face him, hands coming to grasp at his thigh as a means to get his attention. "we need to pick out our costumes for the pumpkin festival. i know it's stupid to do something matching, so we don't have to do that, but we do need to dress up. that's the best part about this thing."

"jerico's sister is here, too," bella confessed, her voice soft as she glanced up at her mother. "wandered in a couple months ago, just before cullen showed up. and i know jerico feels the same way that i do, but he had a harder time coming to terms with the fact that caper came looking for him. meanwhile i got so excited to see cullen i nearly cried." she let out a little sigh, settling in closer to dahlia in a prolonged moment of weakness. but then she was laughing, pulling back to flash her mother a sweet smile. "don't i know it. i think the universe took one person with opposing interest and personalities and split them down the middle to form me and cullen. we grew up really close, if you can believe it. he always supported my stupid interests and i made sure to always support his, even if it involved being in a fraternity."

Dahlia felt a small smile tugging at her lips as she reached out to smooth down Bella's hair. "You're allowed to be happy that he's here with you while also wishing he wasn't stuck here," she replied, thinking back to how she had felt when Eva had come into town, or how DJ had felt about Zel and Ian showing up. She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her daughter's ear before going back to simply holding her. "I feel that way about my sister being here. And I know that your dad feels that way about his cousins." She paused and let out a soft chuckle. "I do find it amusing that you and your brother could not be more different from each other. It's the same with the Dutton twins."

TO BELLA.

i’ve written love letters to people who didn’t really deserve it. to people who ended up having my entire heart, without ever leaving me to feel like what i gave was enough to keep them around.

you deserve the type of love letter that transcends the concepts of romantic, platonic, or any love you can buy a card for.

i want you to know how important every single fiber of you is to the way this world works. every single time i think my world is about to tip off its axis, it’s like an invisible thread on my sweater secretly gets caught and lets me see that there was something or someone to hold on for.

you are a soul bond, my darling angel. for what it’s worth, i’m a delusional dramatization of what could otherwise be directly said, but i feel like it’s only worth it to really stress emphasis on every single word i say about you.

you are anything but simple. your complexity is woven delicately through layers, and only the lucky ones truly make it through to the central you. i imagine this particular feeling is how the kids felt entering Narnia. it’s like a euphoric rush; discovering that past the guarded, gorgeous fortress that is a fierce woman, there is one who as equally fierce in her love and loyalty.

you are a lover, a fighter (a little agressively at times, but i digress), a strong woman, a sweet baby, an intelligent queen, and a crazy fun (indoor only) adventure seeker. i feel quite fortunate that even under unfortunate circumstances, i got the amazing luck of meeting you. your love, life, the energy you bring, the love you have. me being part of it of it is nothing short of fucking astounding to me. you make sydney what it is for me. you are my go to, the first person i want to tell everything good to, and the one who knows what to say when it may not be as celebratory.

meeting you was so quick, i was swept up in the us of realizing you are my fucking soulmate (insert euphoria GIF here) and delving into you. you get me on an interstellar level, and i honestly think that regardless of what life before or after we were and will end up in, my golden retriever heart will always be lucky to find comfort in your black cat arms.

i love you so much bella. happy birthday you perfect, couldn’t be more loveable, human. as i write this, im giggling at the inevitable eye roll, fankssss and dood that i’ll receive to this. but you know i can’t help but yap, and writing is my brains way to quiet yap. and when it comes to celebrating another year of you, the yap can’t stop won’t stop.

bella let her lips form into a releived smile, her fingers giving lucy's hand an affectionate squeeze. "so, we need to make party favors. we don't have a lot of people coming to the wedding, but i still found a bunch of little things that i want to give them as a thank you. the job will be tedious, but i think we can do it. you up for the challenge?"

Lucy shook her head. "I'm not too busy," she assured her. She didn't have a job aside from her carving, but those were mostly gifts and Roman's cabin was nearly done. "I want to help." She reached out to take Bella's hand a bit shyly. "I want you to have a good wedding. You deserve it."
