The fact that I don't really 'fan-person' over anything, yet right as of the moment, I'm almost tempted to start a fan blog. It'll be extravagant, 'cause my tastes and interests are broad and varied, from music and comics and tv series and movies and birds and mythologies and books and languages and ships and murderers and...oh it goes on and on.

JBB's Final Thoughts Episode 12: Dear Mr. Atheist, Part 2: Talkin' About Your Best Friend's Marriage
JBB’s Final Thoughts Episode 12: Dear Mr. Atheist, Part 2: Talkin’ About Your Best Friend’s Marriage
JBB’s Final Thoughts Episode 12: Dear Mr. Atheist, Part 2: Talkin’ About Your Best Friend’s Marriage (In Bad Faith, episode 21): There’s more than two-sides to this debate and it’s certainly not about who has the IQ or Morality high ground. It is like talking about your best-friend’s marriage. Please check out one YouTube video…

The ending of The Last of Us is a particularly good example of how video games can pose provocative ethical questions.
SPOILERS AHEAD
In the end of The Last of Us, Joel decides that sacrificing Ellie is not worth potentially saving the human race based on his personal feelings for her, and kills everyone who tries to stop him from leaving with her. After escaping, Joel then lies to Ellie, telling her that they simply did not need her and that was why they left.
From a utilitarian standpoint, what Joel did is morally wrong - by refusing to sacrifice Ellie, he potentially stopped the scientists from finding a cure (or at least a vaccination) to a fungal infection that posed a significant threat to what remains of the human population. By finding a vaccination, the scientists may have been able to give immunity to humans, thus allowing them to reclaim the land and start setting up proper societies again. From this ethical position, then, Joel’s actions are morally wrong.
However, from Kant’s deontological perspective, what Joel did is morally right - the action of sacrificing a perfectly healthy human being to save others is wrong, and Joel did his best to stop that from happening. The actions justify themselves.
Personally, I think that Joel was in the right by doing this. They didn’t know if the cure was even going to work (a common hole in utilitarian perspectives), and the small slice of happiness that he had secured for himself and Ellie seems morally right to me.
