I recently re-watched Encanto after a while, and Luisa REALLY reminded me of Kouko, so I figured I'd draw this! I've been insanely busy lately, but I managed to squeeze this in because brainrot LMAO I'll probably draw another happier doodle of Kouko as Luisa later on, because it's so cute, but for now, angst.

Surface Pressure really strikes me as a Kouko song, not just because Kouko and Luisa have plenty of things in common, but also because it's a song about being a older sibling and the immense pressure of trying to protect your younger siblings. A TON of Kouko's character motivation is avenging her little sister she couldn't save when she was a child. I would've drawn Fuyuko in Mirabel's clothing, but I figured it was sadder to make her a silhouette because Kouko has no idea what an older Fuyuko would look like for obvious reasons.

I love how the skirt came out, but the light source layer made it really difficult to shade the shirt, so I may redraw this in the future when I figure out how to tweak it to work properly! Otherwise, though, I really like how it came out!

the way they clearly have some bond, with sushang giving guinaifen her xianzhou name. protective knight sushang trying to deal with guinaifen and her hazard antics. she's a public menace but also so hot.

i have a lot of respect for sushang after wrapping up aurum valley. she clearly cares deeply to the point of getting herself stuck in messes. mmm. they have some real good solid ground going for them.

also remember when i said "it's cute that sushang has some awkward distance with guinaifen, like she's not sure how to deal with the fact that she's going to outlive guinaifen for centuries to come and while guinaifen will grow ill and old it won't happen to sushang the same way" because i think about it still. like sushang wants to do right so bad she would agonize over this.

I’ve discovered that I came to Bali at a pretty amazing time - during Nyepi.

Today is the night before Nyepi, and there were Ogoh Ogoh parades all over the island. These scary looking figures are made months in advance, and they’re paraded around with people making as much noise as possible.

The idea is to attract demons to the island. Tomorrow is the ‘day of silence’ - everyone has to stay inside, electricity and data roaming is shut off, and many people spend the day fasting, meditating and staying completely silent. When the attracted demons arrive, they’ll find what looks like a deserted island and move on. Thus Bali is safe for another year.

Since tomorrow nobody is allowed on the streets (tourists included), my friend had two large chickens in her fridge for both of us. But we did get caught out by places closing early tonight and didn’t have any dinner. However, my hosts just informed me that they’ll give us all breakfast, lunch and dinner tomorrow….so hooray, I’m eating that chicken now because I’m starving 😆
