re: the recent ann interview with ryoko kui, im honestly a bit surprised at how many other fans are surprised that kui describes him as normal. she's said something to that effect before at a previous q&a event.

her consistency on this point honestly warms my heart. particularly in the context of the ann question mentioning the fight between him and shuro, i think it's very clear-eyed and kind to assert that laios' struggles are relatable and universal. being misunderstood and not understanding others are things that will happen to everyone in their lifetime. and navigating those conflicts is necessary in personal growth and building friendships.

i also think in the context of the final arc [MANGA FINAL ARC SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT], i think it's a really nice sentiment. the winged lion preys on his long simmering loneliness and alienation from other people, and the resentment that's come from that. his specific circumstances of his interests being deemed weird, not being understood by his parents, watching his sister be ostracized by his hometown, not fitting in with the military, and so on are all important to the story, but labeling him as ultimately normal reframes those struggles as common.

in the end, he's not alone. he's accepted by his friends, even if they do think he's also weird and annoying. they value him and see the good he brings as an adventurer and as a person to the world and that he wouldn't be laios without all those more prickly aspects of his personality that they don't get.

and isn't that such a nice sentiment? that you can feel alone in the world but if you open yourself up, allow yourself to learn about others and for them to learn about you, that you can be loved? even if they do find you weird and annoying? and that is this a feeling that everyone experiences? delicious in dungeon is so much about bridging the gaps between different people, different groups of people, the inherent conflict of living in a world where people have different needs and desires, and how that conflict is tremendously painful but when approached with openness, can be so richly rewarding. and i think that's a very interesting and kind way to approach laios' place in the story and how readers can see/relate to him.

he starts by talking about how tommy used to joke about dream being a pedo (when he was 16 btw) and shows a super long text he sent to tommy saying how he doesn’t like it and doesn’t think it’s nice to do that.

then he talks about the qsmp/usmp thing. he said that tommy really wanted to join the usmp and apparently said “fuck quackity” (has no evidence of that) and then says how he stopped being friends with tommy when he dropped the “if youtubers were honest” video. he goes on a whole rant saying how tommy is fake and how he’s lying to everyone and then he starts shit talking tommy’s mom cause she was defending tommy on twitter. he shows the huge dm he sent to sarah (which was basically just saying that he’s upset that she’s active on twitter and defending her son). he says some more things about tommy, saying that he’s “on his knees” for quackity and also said that he wouldn’t be doing this if w*lbur was in dreams place

he then goes into the logan paul situation and, as expected, shit talks tommy for being friendly with him when he was 16. he starts saying that tommy just likes to start drama to get attention.

finally he gets into the mizkif situation and again says that tommy is just trying to start drama. Then he goes on a whole politics rant about xqc or whatever the fuck his name is and saying that his opinions on trump dont matter cause he’s canadian? he then says that his own opinions on trump don’t matter and that he doesn’t talk about politics cause he’s not a politics streamer. then he addresses the r slur and to summarize it he basically just said “how come nicholas cantu can say a slur but not me”. he gets super mad when that jack and harry found the nicholas cantù thing funny purely because they don’t like dream.

he also talks about the philza tweet and says that he never ever took credit for other people’s success while in the same breath saying that he shined a spotlight on creators during the dream smp. he also says that he gained absolutely nothing from the dsmp and that “1% of his subs are from dsmp”

he starts going off about aimsey and says that he thought that she was the one who set off the whole caitibugs in an attempt to cancel dream and george (she didn’t caiti was literally speaking out abt george groping her and dream covered it up)

i really really hope that alicia and lloyd have a closer, more quiet moment to talk about their respective lives and history with losing loved ones and feeling isolated as a result. i WAS gonna talk abt that in a dedicated alicia post but i guess itll make a cameo here too lol

bc if u think abt it, suho and alicia both went through very very devastating losses. they both lost the lives of the people who cared for them most, and in very very tragic ways (suho's parents committed, and alicia's parents were slaughtered / alicia's brothers put her in a 'kill or be killed' situation). it's really unfortunate, it's life-altering, and it follows you,,, and then the isolation that comes after that makes it all even worse.

of course, we see suho very explicitly going through throes of isolation through endless work, endless school, and the sheer struggle to just survive to the next day by himself, with no family to support him. obviously, we don't see alicia explicitly having this experience, but i think it'd be reasonable to believe that after the death of her family,,, it was just her. she lost her parents and her brothers, and now she's the only one with the magentano name, and you can't exactly have an empty mantle now can you?

she probably didn't really have anyone to talk to about this. probably just a bunch of old coots on that board of nobles, who have to help her with this "being queen" thing, u cant exactly talk abt ur trauma to people who are technically working for u, who care more abt their status in the kingdom than anything else. and at such a young age, too... like yeah she's surrounded by people technically, but how many people around her actually care for HER, and not for her new status as crown princess? and then as queen? like no wonder tyrant alicia comes to be because of a betrayal from kyle, no wonder she's worried abt letting lloyd into her heart. she's probably been worried about betrayal from a loved one all her life bc of what her brothers did,,, that must be so isolating, and lonely.

so yes, i think alicia probably went through a long bout of isolation, too. and i think alicia and lloyd should Talk about it and have a heart to heart and go "jesus fuck we went through it,,, but we have found people we can rely on. and isn't that wonderful,,," and then alilloyd will have a wonderful leg to stand on yay

long list of funny things abt my experience doing emote commissions for mike

first of all I wasn't expecting to get commissioned at all (my commissions weren't even open, I just made an exception for mike) let alone by MIKETHELINK of all fucking people, so I had nothing prepared. I had no portfolio, commission sheet, nothing. I had never made any twitch emotes, so I had no examples to show either. meaning that when barbmine showed up in my dms asking if I took emote commissions, first I lost my fucking shit, then I panicked and rushed to find the most recent emote-like illustrations I had, including animation, and the most recent animation I had on hand happened to be a viewtiful joe one lmao. the animation in question 👇

I have some experience taking commissions but they'd always been for friends of mine, this was my first time getting commissioned by a real "client" and the client was fucking mikethelink tazercraft of all fucking people . I know he "found" me through Mine, she sent me a dm first asking for commission info, saying she would show it to mike later. the thing is that when she said that she also implied that she was in touch with other artists too, so I was like "oh ok I'll send my stuff but I probably won't get chosen lol" and then a few hours later I got two twitter notifs, one saying that mr. thelink tazercraft was now following me and another was his DM. to say I almost had a heart attack would be an understatement

later I found out Mine had made a tweet asking for artists to reach out/people to rec artists for mike's twitch emotes. that post had around 40 comments. many people had been recommended more than once. I wasn't mentioned by anyone once, and in fact, I had no fucking idea that post even EXISTED until way after the fact. I have no idea how I ended up getting this job

mike happened to contact me on a day where I was severely sleep deprived. our entire business conversation took place while I was half-panicking, half-almost-passing-out. I don't know how I survived

at many points during our conversation I gave a lot of leeway for mike to give up on commissioning me, implying multiple times that he would be better off commissioning a different artist. and it's not because I lacked confidence (though a bit of that too, of course), but because of my lack of experience. I was very open about that to him, so many times I expected him to second guess his decision to commission me. unexpectedly, he was really insistent. I think partially he didn't want to go through the trouble of finding and contacting a different artist, but also I guess he just liked my art that much (??!?)

I definitely undercharged him lol. it's not that I don't value my work, it's just that I was absolutely not prepared for any of this shit to happen and didn't have enough time to think

I use adobe after effects for animating mike's emotes. I already knew how to animate (though I had never animated anything big), but I had never used after effects before. I even told mike this before accepting the commission, but he just said it was easy and I could totally do it, and I was just like "fucking hell. fine". and look, I know my limits, I knew I'd be able to learn after effects with relative ease. if I thought it'be too much for me to handle, I wouldn't have accepted the commission. it just that to this day I'm still shocked that mike commissioned an artist who HAD NEVER USED THE TOOL NECESSARY FOR THE COMMISSION HE WANTED.

due to the point above I was pretty apprehensive about animating the emotes, but now I'm glad I got this opportunity bc it reignited my passion for animation that had been dwindling for a long time and I've been learning a lot while working. also with every new emote I figure out how to use a different feature of after effects and it makes the job a little bit easier

before giving my payment information I came out to him to avoid confusion with my legal name being different from the name on my socials. he was very chill about it and always used the right name and pronouns for me whenever he mentions me on stream

fun fact: I was reached out to by another big (brazilian, not in qsmp) youtuber for a commission but I had to refuse because I had too much on my plate already (still do..)

a lot of people you can separate their speech in either formal and informal speech right? someone like shizuo speaks really informally and uses a lot of rough, dragged-out versions of words and stuff (しゃーねえ vs しょうがない) and then someone like shinra who speaks in a ton of yojijukugo and generally sounds like a nerd emoji gijinka.

izaya on the other hand rly... doesn't fit in either? i mean sure he sounds like another nerd emoji gijinka but it's kinda different. it's not so much the words he speaks but rather the intonation and his tone...

and he has his moments where he speaks pretty seriously and whatnot of course, but in general he just... doesn't sound very human when he speaks? i don't know if that's a conscious effort or not. is it his attempts at distancing himself from his own individual humanity? or is it just because he's a weird guy? i dunno. but it's interesting nonetheless.

one thing i will note though is that despite his somewhat inhuman speech patterns, it's also pretty...dramatic? to the extent where it's really exaggerated but also very cute and charming. (this part is important.)

i think a lot of what makes izaya's speech so weirdly inhuman is because he doesn't really use a lot of slang or similar lingo that people his age would typically use. i know mikado said in the novels that he doesn't really try to fit in with his age group's fashion sense either so it makes sense but still. he's like an old hag it's so funny. and it's because of that that when he says stuff like 'i don't get all hot and heavy over headless women' or whatever he said to celty it's really amusing to me because like... why is the strange man saying this?💀

another example i kinda giggled about on my twitter when i read it it's not even crazy and i sound corny and cheesy and stupid but theres this scene in vol 9 where izaya messages celty for business and hold on let me just put it as a quote.

he sounds so old saying 'video game' like 😭 idk it's just funny cause he barely even knows anything abt games like bro knows nothing im crying

in the jp hes like 「…ゲーム中なのかい？」 and then when celty tries to explain herself he says 「何を言ってるのか、良く解らないんだけど」 and im rly bad at tling parts of sentences and stuff but just know that the way he words it makes it sound like this gif to me

when it comes to just straight up acknowledging his humanity izaya has no problems with this because 'sure, i'm human. isn't that obvious?' is probably something along the lines of what he thinks. it's easy for him to just say that because it's just that. it's just words. it holds no real meaning and shows no true insight into how he actually perceives himself. but when it comes to actually having to come face to face with his own humanity and the fact that yes, he is only human, it's a lot more difficult because now it's out of his control. i wonder also if he has problems with perceiving his own self.

There was a screencap on twitter from a Tae anti - you know the one - saying Tae asking JK to make him food in ITS2 was Tae FORCING JK to do it for him and that's disrespectful etc etc.

When I stopped eyerolling to the moon and back, my first thought was "You wouldn't know human relationships if they hit you in the ass."

My second thought is that Tae asking JK to make him food is, to me, a thousand times more flirty than any reference to kissing or sex or nudity. Think about that push and pull of this very simplified version of events:

Entirely my opinion but I get the impression that JK's love language is acts of service. He's been looked after by his hyungs and really values that. It's possible if not highly likely that's how he has learnt to love. I definitely think he lets his actions speak - think about his bear snowglobe. He put all this effort in to get it looking pretty for Tae and then his letter was notably short.

And Tae likes more overt displays of love. Words and actions. So what looks to them like Tae forcing JK to do things for him is actually, I think, quite a compatible relationship dynamic. Both of them getting something they enjoy and want from the other.

This water bottle situation seems like a bit of that. He doesn't want just anyone to do it for him. He wants JK to do it for him. And I tend to believe JK gets something out of that too. Also would you look at Tae's smile when he gets it?

First briefly meeting Arthur through mutual friends

Actually hanging out for the first time whilst filming Chip’s Pub Golf video. That was an offer Arthur would have never in his life turned down. So after exchanging contacts that night the two of you met up in front of the museum on the Saturday of that week. 

Even though there was no certain label to the outing it felt exciting. Besides his name and some other surface information, you didn’t really know him and vice versa. (he might’ve lied a bit abt that, turns out that frequently watching your videos made him more familiar with you than he actually let on).

In between talking about the exhibitions the pair of you got the chance to chat about individual and mutual interests, life before youtube along with your shared profession, and the pros and cons that came along with it.

Despite you wishing for the opposite, Arthur and you got spotted by fans on that day. And it did not take long for pictures and clips of the two of you walking around the museum to be leaked online. 

And of course, Chip had to jump on it as well on the next Fellas podcast. “All I am saying is that I should get recognition for this one. Mate, I basically set the thing up for Arthur”

rambling & thoughts abt this piece below the cut because i put a lot of thought into it

tbh my thoughts on this piece are properly expired because i did this MONTHS ago and its. its not as fresh as it used to be but here we go

so i made this thing ^ for twitter because obviously i cant ramble there but the whole gist of it is there from the beta designs and everything, but something i didn't include in the picture above is my struggle with deciding what color the dress should be because i don't make thumbnails/colored sketch before like getting into lineart and coloring

okay pic above is the options i had for deciding the color (ended up doing the one on the second pic, second from the left) it's a bit fun to revisit because this pic took 11 hours or so ibispaint says okay wait time to properly get rambling

i. unexpectedly put a lot of effort and thought behind this piece considering that its probably my first ever proper serious twst artwork...??? and its an open collab too so you cant not expect me to tryhard a little www but anyway. i do wish i could have done more but im impatient and i want to get this finished asap with how busy i already was with other stuff so as a result i didnt put much though in the backgrounds and just balled it but yknow what. its okay i like the end result, its nice to see and im glad to see that people like it too!! about the beta designs; im genuinely a big fan of like some of them but i knew it was going to be a pretty detailed (and draining) piece so i decided for something simple :] i did regret not putting any accessories in vil's hair though :( it completely slipped my mind until i was like .... halfway? through shading ANYWAY. i think that should be all? idk my thoughts are no longer fresh anyway so i dont have much to say now compared to back then but if you read this thank u . i put a lot of love and effort in what i do and i hope it shows through my art. hopefully i can draw more twst soon !!

The 'Quinton v Nebula'clique' drama

I saw on Twitter that Quinton had filmed a response to one of his critics whom he had a more personable interaction with. After going through all the info laid out by non-biased, non Wikitubia sources that aren't gushing abt shit that doesn't matter, as well as I guess what we'll call the "opposing sides" here's what I can surmise:

A yt named FlowersGothic had some kind of parasocial interest in Quinton and really wanted to be his solo editor and more* irl

-> Quinton himself also has/had his own parasocial attachments to people, namely Lindsay Ellis and Sarah Zed, I think. I def remember how the two expressed publicly that they aren't into working with him after (I think???) he trauma dumped and was waaay to emotionally volatile when asking to be their friend, which naturally turned them away and creeped them out. Whether or not he was definitely creeping on either women is unclear but yeah I get why they were uncomfortable.

All parties involved here already know this, but it's not Lindsay and Sarah's responsibility for Quinton's validation or feelings of rejection. they don't have to be friends w him when they feel like he pushed their boundaries. I do feel like, frankly, a lot of these receipts are being presented as worse than they are by the 4chan/KiwiFarmers doing the digging...if Quinton's going to be called a creeper, it better be by the ppl he hurt and not randos who don't even like Sarah or Lindsay abt how they should feel...

-> Flowers took her job as editor waay too personally and also messaged Quinton drunk twice, on Halloween saying she wanted to be more than friends

-> Quinton said no. Like Ellis and Zed, he's not responsible for Flowers' feelings and validation, just her paycheck which he said did pay her fill on

-> Flowers did a 180 and said she now hated him, apparently blamed him for her emotional problems and state and started to compile a list of grievences she's had and spit that back at Quinton.

-> Flowers has been presenting these receipts as absolutes for awhile now

-> Quinton for the first time responds on his second channel to Flowers accusations; presenting his side and also saying Flowers' is using half-truths and sometimes straight up lying

-> Dan Olson and Lady Emily, friends of Lindsay and Sarah respectively have vague tweeted today very obviously abt Quinton. Don't know exactly what Olson said, but Emily def is implying that Quinton = bad

-> people are now wondering if Flowers is somewhat responsible the schism and that the 'Nebula Clique' is siding with her and other people's own biased thoughts against Quinton as fueled by their own less than positive circumstances with him.

It's sad. I haven't watched anything by Flowers. I think I would, actually, but these are some very heavy things she's accusing here and things she's being accused of. I don't actually know any of these people exactly, but none of them seem like liars -if anything I see Quinton as being a little bit waywaywaay too honest sometimes? Not understanding like Contrapoints, I guess, but you know- tmi?

As an outsider, this looks like a matter of a lot of hut feelings and neurodivergents' judging other neurodivergents' behavior based on their own bad experiences.

I hate calling the Nebula crowd a 'clique', tbh. As someone who is always on the outside of other friend groups and so know the feeling of jealousy and exclusivity, I think it's easy to just look as any gang of well-netted creators as a "clique" when they could very well just be protective of each other. Considering the bs Sarah and all the former TGWTG-folks had to deal with I get their apprehension of Quinton.

I also tho really get Quinton as someone dealing w similar issues as him, and I'd be heartbroken to find out he's lying or even just accusing someone else of lying.

Gosh I hope this blows over and gets resolved and doesn't reach the pos drama channels out there.

I mean, I think that you could have done something with the death of Aemond, the primary target of that plan? And what exactly was he right about, that violence against the greens was necessary? Because with his characterization of seemingly being more loyal to/prioritizing Viserys than Rhaenyra or seeking Viserys' approval over his own family's safety as the show changed from the original really redefines the lines here. Now Rhaenyra has a real reason to believe he isn't as dedicated or trustworthy, apart from how she believed he was so back in S1 E7.

You could argue that she spent too long apart from him to know the "real" him and just misconstrued his character and that she didn't know the "real" him as a teenager. And you could say that she was right to conclude that he used her against Viserys even in the canon with the brothel moment, that he mostly wanted her for access to the throne and not for her herself. You'd be welcome to that conclusion, esp with how he's written in the show and how we don't have any insight into their life at Dragonstone with their new family that the showrunner also have divided by sending Baela off to Driftmark 🙄. Plus how this Rhaenyra simply is not the same Rhaenyra of canon--proud, little more than a "little" vain, defiant, self-interested, etc., uncaring of others' thoughts of her unless in a practical bent (thus I'm not really mad abt there being an argument at all, but what was argued about and the motivations for thinking as such).

Except that in canon, there's a lot more room to suspect that Daemon wasn't using her as what she claims is to get back his "stolen inheritance" and do whatever he wanted behind her back. Rhaneyra did seem to be emotionally distant or angry with Daemon in canon for a bit, having realized that he used her to get back at Viserys and a little bc Viserys caused Mysaria to miscarry what would have been Daemons first child as well as having otherwise distanced himself from Daemon for Otto's "advice". But after Daemon has his family with Laena, Rhaenyra and Laena become friends, Rhaenyra sees Daemon in this new role....they reconcile. There's really little room to say Rhaenyra still didn't think him trustworthy as to allow him to be her husband and allow him around her first 3 kids, which makes show!Rhaenyra a little...not smart.

Like his idea of them being "peak" Targs is correct and true to character, but it's a lot more complicated and more...realistically(?) emotional here than in the show.

wait also (same anon! sorry i had more to say) so much of the marauders fandom gets the black brothers wrong. its annoying and i see many people greatly villainize or just ignore their relationship when writing mostly Jegulus but sometime Wolfstar too like i know it doesnt always have to be the focus but... if youre mentioning them at all like try a little maybe

Ur so right abt a lot of ppl villainizing one of the black brothers in posts/stories etc. You can always feel when someone thinks one of them is right and one of them is wrong. Makes me sad. They are complex beings 2 me. Where is the nuance.

I love a sibling dynamic so much because I’m an only child. I must study siblings like an anthropologist. How can I do that when all u are giving me is “__was evil for this actually” babygirl I think it depends.

Sirius and Regulus are not the villain in each others story, even if they see it that way. There’s a bigger thing going on here called abusive parents and (in canon) War!! Let’s see the tension between them in that environment.

And like I do find it really annoying when the only tension between the siblings is because of James’ relationship with Regulus. Like they have problems but Regulus’ dating life is not one of them.

Even within that…

If anything the tension would be between James and Sirius because of Sirius’ insecurities. Like these are boys who basically read each others minds. How can James love Regulus so easily when for Sirius it’s so goddamn hard.

Much to think about and yet the twitter girlies are making it weird! (Specifically referencing the people who make Sirius be weird about their sex life. I see too much abt that & it scares me a bit)
