Once Upon A Time Rewatch: 6x12 Murder Most Foul
Tumblr media
Oh! This is a Charming centric, I think? Awesome!
Aww! Baby David and James!!
So James was named before he was adopted. Interesting that George and his wife chose to keep that name.
I wonder which twin is older. I think I’ve said this before. I hc that David is younger by a few minutes.
Omg Ruth pointed a knife at Rumple for trying to take one of her sons.
That really must be an impossible decision.
Rumple gave him the coin!
I forgot they went by heads or tails. I thought David was just Ruth’s favourite.
Uggggh! That’s so horrible! It hurts!
Creepy ghost is creepy!
Archie! I miss seeing Archie more. I wonder if he has any trauma from when Killian kidnapped him. And now he’s his therapist!
Snowing miss each other so much!
David is going through the motions today!
Neighbouring king? I always thought Ruth and David lived in King George’s kingdom. Do you think that if King George knew about David as well, he would have adopted him too, by force if he had to, in order to keep the secret? I think he would have. If someone saw another boy looking exactly like the prince, then they may have said something. Though, would it have to be a secret? Were they allowed to have adopted heirs in their realm? I mean, Regina would have made Henry heir to her throne and then she is not Queen due to line of succession even though she was born a princess. Couldn’t King George change the law if he wanted? It may have been an issue if the secret was the reason he wanted to kill David’s father. Oh, in England it’s been illegal for centuries apparently. That is beyond stupid! What are you gonna do if the next in line to the throne is asexual or gay and wants to adopt or just wants to only adopt? Not that I’m a fan of the concept of royalty in the real world but that’s straight up discrimination! Laws may be different in the EF though. I just can’t remember why George wanted to kill David’s dad.
Awww look at little David!!
Omg he’s adorable!!
David, honey, you need to get some sleep. I know you miss Snow, but you probably haven’t slept in ages!
Maybe David is seeing things that aren’t there. I always start seeing things that aren’t there when I haven’t slept, especially spiders. I f***ing hate spiders.
Talking to a dead significant other’s alternative self must be so weird. Are they trying to court over stories of the original Robin? *whispers* That’s kinda weird.
Zelena, what the hell? That’s not even his child. Calm down, girl.
I mean, I guess she is biologically his child. When an identical twin is an uncle, do they have dna matches as if they were the biological father also? I’ve probably asked this before. And then when it comes to alternate versions of the same person, don’t they share 100 per cent the same DNA? So biologically Robin Jr. may be Wish Robin’s child. The same goes for Original Hook and Alice and Wish Hook and Hope, I suppose. I wonder if the Hooks would act like uncles to the kids that aren’t technically theirs.
Zelena, that was so random.
That’s not even the Nottingham you know, Robin!
Was this what original Robin meant about having a dark past, or something. Was he like this before?
I wanna see Emma and Henry’s canoeing trip!! If there are any edits of this, please point me to them!
Wait, there’s another curse Emma wants to break? I can’t remember there being one. What happened this time? Oh! Her parents’ sleeping curse! I thought there was another dark curse I’d missed. That could have very well been the case.
“I’d do anything to see my boy and tell him I’m sorry.” You can see Rumple felt that because it’s exactly what he wants to do. He doesn’t even need a hair from his head, he’s just trying to keep his image up. Really he’s helping him for free because he knows what that pain is like. Yep, he threw it away!
Rumple: “Someday, may we all be reunited with our sons.”
You go canoeing Emma! You guys have fun!
Why didn’t Regina give those hearts back once she decided to turn over a new leaf? I know she said she took so many she lost track but if everyone who’s heart was taken came forward, they might be able to figure it out through trial and error.
She really was hoping to get with this Robin so that they could be part of each other's fresh starts. But wouldn’t that feel like a betrayal to the other Robin? It’s kinda like replacing him with a copy.
Oh snap! They kissed! Regina, don’t do this, girl. It’s too weird.
He’s stolen something, hasn’t he.
Pleasure island makes me feel so uneasy. I used to be terrified of Disney’s Pinocchio. Pleasure island is just creepy in that movie.
I hate the fact that they put Pinocchio in the flashback of this episode so much. If we’re to assume this puppet is physically 6 or 7 then he’s probably older than David! He must have remained physically a 6 or 7 year old puppet for at least 20 years. I liked him being closer to Emma’s age. Why did they retcon this? And this Pinocchio has so much more attitude than the young Pinocchio we’ve seen in previous episodes.
I love James’ Prince outfit! It’s so cool! Omg! I’ve just realised it’s the same outfit the prince wears in the Snow White Disney movie!! How have I not realised this before?!
Tumblr media
James doesn’t want to kill things! George completely manipulated him. He had a good heart and why would George do this to his frightened son?? And he’s only 6! So cruel!
Nope. That doesn’t make sense. No way August took the pages about Pinocchio out of the book. Henry had already read the whole book by then. The whole idea was that August added the story of Pinocchio to help Emma figure things out or something. Henry said the Pinocchio story wasn’t there before when he got his book back.
David, no!
I feel so sad for James. He’s just a kid. Leave him alone! Let him run through the forest and sing to birds, as Disney princes should. George basically got James killed. Just be a decent father, George and don’t be so cruel to your own freaking son. Jeez! I bet he was a horrible, controlling husband too. He is so controlling!
Random thought but I kinda ship James with Zelena. They both had terrible fathers. Zelena had two! I wonder if she ever met her other dad. Would she have pulled a Tom Riddle and killed him?
David’s dad stood his ground. He was told of James’ father’s abuse and tried to protect James, even knowing he would pay dearly. And then afterwards no one was left to protect James. Maybe his mother did before she died and maybe that’s when George began trying to force him to become a knight. I like to think his mother was loving to him until she died when he was young like Zelena’s was. They got a taste of unconditional love in their early years and then it was torn away from them and replaced with control and/or contempt.
This guy has just told James he is his biological father, George acknowledges this and then tells them to kill him in front of Janes?! How freaking heartless!
Look how angry David was when he thought he’d found the man who killed his father. Then when he realises it was Killian he’s like “it’s all cool bruh. We chilling at Granny’s tonight?” Let. The. Charmings. Express. Their. Anger. And. Pain. It’s like Regina and Killian are Gods to them who can do know wrong, require instant forgiveness and nothing must be spoken against them. As for other villains, good freaking luck! And if your one of the Charmings or considered a hero from the start, if you so much as look at someone the wrong way you are the worst most evil villain in existence. Like Eva. Due to her deeds, which I agree weren’t nice, Regina considered her the villain as compared to freaking Cora. What??! She was the bully in that situation, yes, but how can you compare her misdeeds to Cora’s?!
David, bby!! I’m sorry! I love you!
Oh Lord, I’m crying!
I want to hug David so badly!
David says he doesn’t know if he has a way to repay Killian, Killian says he may have an idea and then asks for David’s blessing. Like, “Yeah you can repay me! Repay me with your daughter’s hand in marriage, suckkker!!”
Hey! I’ve kissed many photographs of my dog! And if you believe hard enough, they will walk through the photo into your living room and frighten the sh*t out of you!
Called it! He did steal something.
Interesting choice for August to give Killian the pages with him killing David’s dad. He should have given them straight to David. Maybe that’s what Wish Pinocchio meant when he said that Emma put her faith in him and that he hopes she never does that again. I love August but maybe Blue imbued him with some of her shadiness when she turned him into a real boy.
And Killian was naughty to look at those pages. Or maybe that moment wasn’t part of those pages. Maybe Killian just recognise the face of the man he ruthlessly killed!
The thing is, why would Killian care if he saw him kill the King’s men? He’s spent years rebelling against royalty. I’m sure he’s known by now.
Killian must be taking one of his trips from Neverland ordered by Pan at this point.
The heartlessness! He hears the man has a family and a child, he believed him and then kills him horribly afterwards. This has got to be one of the evilest things Killian ever did. And it’s Emma’s grandfather!!
Even one of his crewmates is look looking at him like “Wtf.” It makes me so angry. Don’t get me wrong, I actually think it was a great twist, but I hate how it was handled. I hate that David, who was so hurt by this didn’t get to express his anger at Killian towards him or at all. That’s just not realistic. I guess he was following how Snow forgave Regina for killing her father. But even that took many years, not freaking minutes!
At least tell Emma.
Is that ring getting smaller the more I look at it or am I high on my meds?

The Kids Are Alright
Pairing: Archie Hopper x Nicole Hopper ft. Hopper kids
Word Count: 1.3k
Summary: A reflection on the Hopper family’s life
A/N: THIS IS ALL @astralshipper’s FAULT IM S O F T
As their mother, Nic naturally worried over her children a lot. From the moment each of them were born, she had an overwhelming instinct to protect them, a little too overwhelming at times. When one of them got sick or hurt themselves while playing, she was there to dote on them. As they got older, it took her husband to assure her that the kids could take care of themselves. But she still worried, asking if they’ve eaten or if they slept. The kids would always need her though, no matter how old they got.
While Ichabod had sought comfort in his father during his first breakup, Ichabod came to his mother the first time his heart was broken while in adulthood. And when Ichabod found who he believed wholeheartedly to be his true love, Nic was the first to know. She was also the first to know about his engagement. Her son had come to her for advice. He was very aware that she proposed to his father (twice in fact) and he wanted to know how to propose to his longtime girlfriend. He was satisfied by her advice of “you’ll know the right moment, and just speak from the heart.” It paid off too, and a few days later he came back to his childhood home where Nic and Archie still resided, and gave them the news that he was going to be getting married.
Elizabella was adored by her mother and father, but more doted on by her mother. Nic did everything to help Bella through life just as she did with Bella’s brother and sister. But the middle Hopper child seemed more self sufficient than either Nic or Archie expected. It didn’t stop Bella from confiding in her mother about her first crushes, once on a boy and another on a girl. And no one was sure who was more nervous about Bella’s first date, Nic or Bella. As time went on, Bella still needed her mother, but it seemed to be less frequent in Nic’s eyes. When Bella decided to leave Storybrooke for a few years and live in Boston, her mother had never been more worried. Nic knew how well her daughter could adjust to change and that Bella was able to take care of herself, but Nic still worried. And when Bella came home to Storybrooke, only to move in with her girlfriend Hope, Nic was able to breathe a sigh of relief. The real challenge, however, was when Bella got engaged. Her mother somehow managed to congratulate her through tears, then Nic told Bella that she wanted her daughter to wear the same wedding dress she wore.
Out of all three kids, Nic worried about Lily the most. The youngest child had a definitive wild streak, and her love for playing rough gave Nic many reasons to worry. When Lily broke her arm playing soccer, Archie was the voice of reason who calmed his wife as they waited for their daughter to come back from getting x-rayed. Lily eventually mellowed out as she hit her mid-teens, occasionally having her signature wild moments, but she truly bonded with her mother in the bakery. Nic showed great pride in Lily’s natural talent for baking, worrying only the first time Lily used an oven. Lily was also the last kid to leave the house, and she stayed a little longer than her siblings did. Nic didn’t worry too much. She saw her daughter at the bakery every day. It was a few years later that Lily met her husband, and Nic and Archie both cried at their daughter’s wedding.
Ichabod was the first of the children to give Archie and Nic a grandchild. In late December, Icha and his wife, Katrina, welcomed a little boy, who they named James, into the world. He was a bubbly baby with dark hair who adored watching Pongo play and always giggled when Archie played peekaboo with him. And it was 3 years later that Ichabod and Katrina welcomed another baby boy into the world, Benjamin, who also had dark hair but from a small age had a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Lily and her husband, William, were the next ones to have children. It was very unexpected to everyone in the family when twins were born, a boy and girl who both had their mother’s fiery red hair. Their daughter was named Olive, and Lily decided to name her son Archibald, after her father. Olive was the more quiet of the two, always keeping to herself or sticking close by her brother. Young Archibald, or AJ as he’d later be referred to, was quite the social butterfly and said hello to everyone he met. As the twins entered school, Lily and William welcomed another child into the world, another boy, whom they named Henry after the close family friend.
Years later, Bella and Hope adopted an infant girl named Thalia. The newest addition to the family may not have looked anything like them, but Thalia was loved by the whole family. Archie and Nic loved babysitting her, and every time she was picked up by her parents Thalia was sound asleep.
The sound of Pongo barking pulled Nic from her thoughts. She looked away from the window just in time to watch James run past with AJ in tow as they chased Pongo up the stairs. Olive ran after her brother and cousin, almost running into Archie as he started clearing the table of the dirty plates.
“No running in the house!” Bella called after the kids, taking a sip from her glass of wine. She huffed out of her nose as Ichabod replied.
“We ran in the house all the time as kids. Give them a break,” Ichabod said, laughing.
“Let them burn off some energy before we go home, they’ll be easier to handle,” William told her.
Archie put the dirty plates in the sink before sitting back down on the couch in his spot beside Nic. Thalia toddled up to her grandfather and Archie grinned at her.
“Hi peanut,” he beamed.
Thalia held up an apple slice to him. “Apple.”
“Can I have one?” He asked her, trying his best not to chuckle. She stared at him and held the apple up more. He gently took it from her. “Thank you.”
“Thank you!” She said before running over to her mothers for another apple slice. Nic smiled softly at the exchange, unable to contain how much she loved the little parroting Thalia was doing. She’s been doing it a lot lately and Archie feeds her small phrases, ones she apparently likes to yell as she runs through the house.
Archie looked over at his wife and noticed the tears in her eyes as she watched Thalia. “Are you okay, muffin?”
She brought up a hand to the back of his head, threading her fingers through his gray hair. Nic gave him a small smile. “I’ve never been happier.”
“Mom,” Lily called from the kitchen, Benjamin and Henry standing on step stools. “Do you want to help me show the boys how to bake cookies?” Nic looked over at Archie for a moment as Thalia walked back over, munching on an apple slice. He picked up his granddaughter and sat her on his leg.
“Go have some fun,” he insisted, kissing Nic’s cheek.
She smiled and stood from the couch, making her way to the kitchen. “I would love to, what are we baking?”
“I was thinking of peanut butter cookies but the boys want–” Lily began.
“Chocolate chip!” Benjamin and Henry said excitedly.
“We could always make both,” Nic suggested, helping Lily collect the ingredients needed to make cookies.
“Are these kids ever going to leave this house without a sugar high?” Lily laughed.
Archie smiled as he bounced a giggly Thalia on his knee. He watched happily as Nic started to explain to their grandson’s about baking cookies. Nearly a lifetime ago he couldn’t imagine having this life, he never thought it was possible. Now, he couldn’t imagine going a day without seeing his grandchildren or talking to his children on the phone, even if it’s for a few minutes. Life is good, and he was thankful for that.

Chapter 14: Courting Danger
Emma wakes up the following morning feeling refreshed. She is engaged once more and maybe she should be nervous, seeing how great it worked out for her last time. The difference is this time it is her choice, she wi the one making the decision, not her parents or anyone else. Technically she had a little push in this direction because of the rumors but ultimately it was her decision to marry. The thought alone gives her butterflies. She finds herself smiling so brightly at the idea. It is funny; she doesn't remember feeling this way the last time.
She dresses quickly and is out her bedroom door. As she has promised to speak to her mother about Killian, she must tell her the news, and although things are moving fast, the decision is hers. Emma knocks at her mother's door and enters when Snow's voice comes through telling her to come in.
"Good morning, mother," Emma says a little too happily. She is happy though, and it scares her a little, but she will not dwell on that right now.
"Emma sweetheart, there is a glow to you. You look so happy," Snow says cheerfully, and then she gasps and asks, "Does this have anything to do with the mysterious man you mentioned yesterday?"
Emma looks at her mother and nods. "Yes, Mother! His name is Killian Jones and he is the steward here and-"
"Emma, did you say, Killian Jones?" her mother interrupts. "Please, tell me you are not talking about the pirate? I believe that is his name, Killian Jones, am I correct?" Snow asks.
"Yes, mother. I know Killian has a reputation but he is trying to be a better man. I thought if anyone could appreciate someone looking for a second chance, it's you," Emma says to her mother and starts pacing around the room, "How many chances did Uncle James get? Hmm? No one made more mistakes than him, Mother. I have not seen my father for years because he is out there trying to fix his brother's mistakes. You don't get to judge Killian. He is trying to atone for his past choices, not leaving the mess for someone else to clean up."" Emma says defensively.
"Emma, don't you dare compare your uncle to that man!" Snow is almost yelling at her daughter. Her loving daughter has filled her life with nothing but joy and has never given her a need to raise her voice, until today.
"Well, the man I'm to marry and the same man you obviously disapprove of is the same one. Where is your excitement for me now? You were so happy for me seconds ago and now all I hear is disapproval in my choices," Emma says as she is about to walk out of her mother's room.
"Emma, if he truly wanted to be a man of honor, why not come to me? He could have also waited for your father's arrival to ask for your hand in marriage?" Snow says, desperately trying to prove her point.
"This marriage is my idea. And as for your approval Mother, it is not like you have been in the greatest health. Please, do not blame him for any of this," Emma waves her hands between the two of them, "if it matters to you at all, he actually encourages for me to voice my opinion, above all he is my friend, we understand each other."
Emma walks out of her mother's room with unshed tears in her eyes. She'd had a feeling that her mother would not be as accepting as she'd originally led her to believe, and although things could have gone a lot better, there is nothing she can do about it right now. She will deal with what she can, therefore, she will go to the convent and talk to Mother Superior about her decision. Emma smiles in spite of the conversation she just had with her mother when she catches a glimpse of Killian in the dining room.
He sees her and smiles broadly as he stands, quickly pulling out her chair, hoping she will join him for breakfast.
"Oh, such a gentleman, but there is no need. I will not be joining you. I was actually on my way to the convent to let Mother Superior know that I will not be returning," she tells him.
Killian smiles and looks around to see if anyone is watching them. He slowly takes her hand while watching her face, and as he raises it to meet his lips, he slyly changes his tactic and catches her off guard as he pulls her to him for a kiss. Their bodies collide and somehow Killian manages to cradle her head and hold her in place. It's a soft, sweet, tender kiss that ends faster than either would have liked. They part and are both inarticulate, still lost in the sensation. For him it is a kiss so unlike any he has ever had before. For her, it is a first.
Emma's eyes slowly fluttered open and her stomach is full of butterflies. She has never been kissed before and although it was highly inappropriate, she doesn't regret it.
He looks at her and has to stop the need to touch his lips. The same spot where hers had been seconds ago. It feels like the sun has finally emerged from an abyss.
Trying to detach themselves from the overwhelming feeling, they both smile and say their goodbyes before parting.
Emma's heart is beating fast, that had been unexpected. She knew there would be some physical interactions but she never expected to feel the way she does right now. Perhaps leaving the convent is the right choice for more than just protecting her family. The thoughts and feelings she feels are in no way shape or form fitting of a nun.
Killian sits down once again and stares at his food. He is jarringly brought back to reality when Enith walks in to announce, "Sir, Mr. Hopper is here to see you."
"Thank you, Enith, I will take it from here," Killian says as he gets up from the table and walks to greet his old friend.
"Good Morning, mate. To what do I owe the honor of your visit on this amazing day?" Killian asks with a little too much glee.
Archie takes a good look at Killian. "You are awfully chipper today. Are you aware of what they are saying about you in town? To be precise, of you and one of the Nolan girls. Girls I know personally?" he asks, waiting patiently as he paces the foyer.
Killian grabs him by the arm and guides him outside of the house. "Aye, Smee stopped by and gave me the news."
"The girl you were going to marry was Milah, right? Is that the true reason you wanted the job here? Killian, what are you doing?" Archie asks, disappointment coloring his tone.
"Why assume that it was Milah? Why not Emma? Am I not good enough to capture fair Emma's, heart?" Killian asks as he purses his lips together and locks his jaw.
"First of all Killian, don't put words in my mouth. I mentioned a possible pairing between you and Emma at the convent, and you told me you two were only engaging in small talk. You dismissed the idea rather fast, if I remember correctly. I made the same comment again the last time I was here and you dismissed it once more. Now you tell me it was Emma all along? You know I love you as if you were my own flesh and blood, so don't take this personally, but I know both girls well and Milah was the obvious choice given the scandalous nature of the rumors."
"I hate to be the burden of bad news. It was always Emma, she thought that she had lost me and that is why she opted to join the convent. When she saw me, she was so bloody furious at me, she said she never wanted to see me again, that is why we lied about not knowing each other, I was just trying to protect her."
"But she was betrothed to August, we all just assumed she was heartbroken about him breaking off the engagement," Archie countered.
"About that, we met and fell in love rather fast. She was heartbroken, just not over the loss of the man you assumed. The foremost reason for the last trip I made was in hopes of becoming a better man in order to obtain her family's approval." He looks down toward his shoes, wondering if his story will hold any weight with Archie. "Alas, we have cleared the air. My love and I have resolved our issues and have decided to move forward and marry. She went to the convent to inform Mother Superior of her decision not to take the vows. I'm happy I was able to return before it was too late. I was wondering if you would be willing to help me find a house fitting of my lovely, Emma."
Archie looks at Killian and nods. He is still hesitant. He hasn't lied to Killian about knowing the Nolan girls. The rumors of the dalliance between Killian and one of the young countesses had finally reached his ears and he automatically made the assumption, that the woman in question was Milah. To him, she was the obvious choice since she had always been so reckless and Emma was the opposite.
"Archie, I know you don't believe me but I'm telling the truth and Emma will confirm my story. Now allow me to change the subject for a bit. How is the business coming along, have you had any problems?" Killian asks.
"Have you talked to her mother? Killian, please tell me you asked for her mother's blessing. Snow is a very kind woman, I don't believe she will oppose. I know she was heartbroken by Emma's decision to enter the convent. Her parents are good people, but if you are worried about the last name. I offer you mine once more," Archie tells him.
Killian smiles and answers, "Emma, accepts me as I am."
"I know of all her qualities and I'm not surprised. I'm more concerned with her parents. Sadly, you are not exactly the type of man they envisioned their daughter to marry. Killian, they are good people but your reputation may not make it easy, perhaps if you had my last name it would be easier?"
"I will ask again, is the business running well?"
"Everything is running smoothly. A lot better than I thought it would. I was also thinking that maybe it would be a good idea to contact Emma's father. He has an export business in Arendelle and we could perhaps partner with him," Archie says enthusiastically, finally letting Killian have his change of subject.
"Emma's father is in Arendelle?" Killian asks.
"Yes, I have mentioned him before. His name is David Nolan, he owns Nolan Importing and Exporting," Archie replies.
Killian turns whiter than a fresh sail. Her father is the owner of the business he had gone to Arendelle for, the final job.
"Is everything alright?" Archie asks with concern. " Killian?"
"That is where I was when I was detained on false accusations, I may add, luckily I came across an honorable Navy officer. One that happened to be my long lost older brother. Liam Long. Did you know of him?" Killian asks.
Archie simply smiles, "That is great news, and I vaguely remember hearing your father mention him once, a long time ago. I'm very happy you two found each other. Why not mention it before?" Archie asks as he pulls Killian into a hug.
Killian looks at Archie. "To be honest, I didn't feel much like celebrating at the time. I returned from the trip to the news I had lost my love." He is being honest, just not about the particular love he had lost.
"One last thing Killian, I support your relationship with Emma. The only thing I have a problem with is how the two of you have dealt with the situation," Archie says as he zips his lips to confirm that it is, in fact, the last thing he will say on the matter.
"Good Morning, Mother Superior," Emma greets the head nun.
"Emma, is everything alright?" Mother Superior asks with concern as she picks up on Emma's demeanor. "Is your mother okay?" she asks as she remembers the declining health of the convent's old benefactor.
"Yes, Mother Superior, everything is okay. My visit is only temporarily as I have come back to inform you that I will not be returning. I want to thank you for all your generosity. I found love, just like my mother and you had told me I would, I apologize for being so stubborn," Emma says to her kind confidant.
"I'm happy for you Emma, I hope to meet the lucky man soon."
Emma just nods her head, avoiding making any promises. "I'll just collect my things," Emma says as she excuses herself and heads for her room.
Emma knocks at the door and is welcomed by Tink.
"Oh Emma, are you back?" Tink asks.
"No, I'm here to pick up my things, I have some news I would love to share," Emma tells her friend.
"Oh, of course," Tink says as she sits on the bed and waves for Emma to join her.
"I'm getting married," Emma says, she takes a breath and continues, "to Killian, your good friend."
The look on Tinks face goes from curious to furious in seconds. "When you left I advised you to go after your cousin's man, not mine, how could you? I thought we were friends!" Tink screams at her.
"I am your friend, I'm sorry," Emma says. "We don't always choose love, Tink, sometimes it chooses us."
Tink doesn't respond, only stares at her with anger and hurt before getting up and storming out of the room.
Emma quickly finishes packing and leaves the convent.
Emma arrives at the Booth Estate to find Archie and Killian who have moved back inside, lost in conversation in the office. They both smile as soon as they see her.
"Am I interrupting?" Emma asks hesitantly.
"Of course not, love," Killian answers as he approaches her and gently grabs her hand and guides her to the available chair in front of the desk.
"Archie heard the rumors and I have confirmed our torrid love affair and plans to wed," Killian informs Emma. She looks between the two men.
"I'm sorry if I have disappointed you, Archie," Emma says.
"I'm not disappointed in you. I had hoped for a relationship between the two of you," Archie says and points to them, "Killian, kept insisting it was not a possibility. So imagine my surprise when I heard a rumor about Killian and one of the Nolan girls having an affair. An affair Killian assures me was real and with you."
"He is not lying; we met and just fell in love so fast. Then I feared I had lost him and I just couldn't go on. I joined the convent because of my broken heart, but when I saw him at the convent once again I knew my heart was still his. I'm sorry we lied about knowing each other but Killian was only trying to protect my image. Mother Superior never truly believed my vocation was true. I think she was just giving me time to heal my broken heart. Now I understand what a mistake I was going to make." Emma knows full well that although she is being honest about the feelings she had and what had led her to the convent's door, it was for a different man. She cared for August but she had never really known him. How could she claim love for him if she had no idea who he truly was? Then there is Killian, she had gotten to know him. They have talked about things that may not be suitable but he truly listens to her.
Archie studies her face and simply says, "Emma I'm truly happy that Killian found you. I know things may not be easy but I will support the two of you. I was telling Killian that I think it would be a good fit for his new business to work with your father. I wanted to suggest for me to take a trip to propose a joint business venture to your father."
"I thought my father was set to return by next month?" Emma asks.
"Yes, that is true, but there was an attempt on his business and he wants to tie up some loose ends before he departs. I could go and help him with the legal aspects and God willing, we will return together by the time he had planned," Archie says. Standing from the his char, Archie announces that he will be taking his leave. "Please, excuse me with your mother for not saying hello. I will be leaving now as I want to leave for Arendelle as soon as possible. Killian, I will be leaving Smee in charge while I'm gone.
"Aye," Killian replies simply as he sits there deep in worried thought. He doesn't believe David Nolan or Archie are aware of his involvement in the failed attempt on the business. At least he hopes there is no proof. Should he tell Emma?
Emma notices his change in mood after Archie takes his leave. "Killian, you are awfully quiet."
"Just basking in your beauty, love," he flirts.
Emma smiles and looks away. Should she tell him about her dreadful conversation with Tink or how well her mother received the engagement news?
Snow decides to ask Cora for help, she hopes that she can help get through to Emma and change her mind about marrying Killian. She has heard the staff mention her dislike for Killian on several occasions. She knocks on the woman's door, hoping to find the assistance she seeks.
"Snow, good morning, darling," Cora says as she greets her old friend and guides her inside. "What brings you out of your room? Is there a problem?"
"It is Emma, I'm afraid she is about to make the biggest mistake of her life. She wants to marry Killian Jones, your new steward," Snow says with shame all over her face.
Cora looks at Snow and she cannot help feel triumphant. She knew Emma would heed her concerns.
"I gather you don't agree," Cora says.
"He is a pirate! Cora, how can you ask me that? You are not his biggest supporter either. Why are you so calm about this?" Snow asks with outrage.
"I'm not calm about this. I just feel so much guilt over what my son did to her. He broke her heart and if my support in this marriage is what she requires, I will grant it. I'm sorry Snow."
Snow leaves the room in shock, she can't believe Cora would support this union. She hopes David is back before it is too late, he is her last hope.

The Bookworms and the Library Chapter 7 First Date
AO3
James and Belle go on their first date
On Thursday night he was invited to the Charming’s new home, along with Regina, Robin, and all of the kids, Snow and David were cooking together, Regina was bringing dessert, so James brought wine and some beers, as well as sodas for Henry, Roland, Margot, and Neal.
He arrived and happily ate the meal, he conversed with the rest of the adults, and played with his nephew and the other kids, who were wanting to teach him how to play some video games.
He and his brother shared a look when they realised that Killian was stinking like rum, he said he had spilt some on himself when they had been celebrating something, he may have only met Robert once but he had stunk of absolutely any alcohol he could find and David had grown up with that: they didn’t trust Killian’s words, they knew he was drunk.
The news of why Killian had been celebrating came during dessert: Emma was pregnant, she had already told her parents, son, and brother, and now James felt his heart swell to be included in the small announcement meal before everyone else in the town knew.
When he saw Snow about to cry, judging by Emma’s grimace told him that she had already cried several times, he made a joke about already being a pretty great uncle but now at least it was official.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Are you excited about your date with Belle?” Snow asked, James had offered to help wash up after their dinner, and was now stood at the sink drying the dishes David was washing up.
James sent her a quick smile. “Yeah… and kind of nervous.” He added remembering Archie urging him to experiment with telling people his feelings.
David looked at his twin brother, he could see the nervous energy in his smile, for a brief moment he felt a wave of the same feeling flow through him, then it was gone. “Do you need any tips? I’m pretty smooth.”
Snow let out a snort of laughter. “On our first date you were so nervous even though you knew we were true love, and we were engaged at the time.”
David couldn’t help but smile. “I suppose you’re right, I think it was a nice date we had a picnic near that waterfall, I was mostly nervous that we wouldn’t be able to get ten minutes alone, away from the rest of our friends.”
Snow laughed again but linked her arm through his, looking at him lovingly. “It was a very nice date.” She assured him.
David ducked his head down to kiss his wife’s lips.
“Ew! Gross guys, there’s children here.” Emma teased, ruffling her little brother’s hair, smiling as he giggled. “What are you doing on your date, Uncle Jamie?”
James sent a glare to his brother, it was his fault that both of his kids referred to him as Jamie, and James refused to give up the appearance that he really didn’t mind the nickname anymore. He looked back at his niece after receiving a smug smile for David. “It’s a bit hard to do things like the movie theatre with Belle being pregnant, so I’m cooking her a meal instead.”
“Aw that’s sweet, I don’t think Killian can cook a meal at all,” She joked she clutched her husband’s hand to prove that she really didn’t mean it, “but it means that I’m learning more which is good. It means I’ll be able to cook my baby things to eat, like you both do.” She placed her hand on her stomach and smiled at her mother and father, she felt her husband squeeze her hand protectively.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The friday of his and Belle’s date James was full of nervous, so much so that he felt his phone buzzed with a worried text from David who was now full of the same feeling, James actually felt bad about that: being twins came with a few unexpected side effects.
James headed to Granny’s, he gave Ruby an awkward wave when their eyes met, and followed her into the kitchen.
“Thanks for cooking the stuff, I wanted it to be fresh.” He ran his hand through his hair.
“David does that too.” He looked confused. “The running his hand through his hair thing- he does it whenever he’s nervous or he feels awkward. You shouldn’t be worried, Belle really likes you, trust me.”
James did his best to send Ruby a smile, though it was hard considering he had approximately one hundred and seventy nine butterflies in his stomach, and another eighty cocoons ready to unleash more.
“Anyway, you did all the prep work, and you taught me how to cook the things,” she sent him her lupine grin, “which means I get to steal your best date recipes.”
James found himself laughing as she smirked.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Belle wasn’t entirely sure what was in store for her when she entered the library, James had requested she meet him there for their date, although she loved the library she didn’t quite count it as a date sort of place.
She was greatly mistaken, James was stood in front of her, smiling that secret smile he only sent to her, not the slight glare he walked around the town with, or even the calming smile he sent to timid children who came into the library or store.
Looking past him she noticed that he had strung up fairy lights leading her to the heart of the library.
“Woah, James this looks so pretty.”
“I convinced Regina to let me use it for a date, I think she was just surprised that I asked instead of just using my key to get in.”
Belle smiled and took hold of his hand. It felt solid beneath hers, stable, and when he gently squeezed it she felt a zing in her heart.
James led her through the library, decorated with fairy lights and vases of flowers, Belle was almost certain that he had got them from the florist near their bookstore not from her father’s store.
James led her to the far end of the library, there was a table with a picnic blanket on, and two of the more comfortable chairs in the library, the table was full of food; not just food, but all the food she had been craving while pregnant, she supposed if anyone was to know what she had been craving it would be James who she spent nearly all of her time with, but she was surprised that he had remembered all of it.
“James, this looks amazing. It looks like a picnic, how did you- you remembered all the food I’ve been wanting.”
“I thought it would be nice to have a picnic, but I think that maybe it would be hard for you to stand up and down, and it would be uncomfortable… Of course I remember what food you want, it would be pretty hard to forget.” He winked at her. He led her to the chairs and when they were sat he pressed play on his phone. “Henry helped me put together a playlist, I’m not really sure what sort of music there is, but he was certain they’d be perfect.”
Belle smiled, she knew that Henry had a very strong romantic in him, she wasn’t surprised that he had helped his great uncle with this, nor was she surprised that it included several songs from the sixties and the eighties, along with a few newer ones.
James happily told Belle that he had made their entire meal, apart from the gelato, with help from Ruby to do the actual cooking. He received a kiss on his cheek which made him blush.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As they ate their dinner of a salad, a korean barbecue curry, rice, and then gelato, along with sparkling cider, they talked about their lives: the adventures they had gone on, the good and the bad, their families, their lives growing up as influential aristocrats.
James hadn’t realised that Moe had been a duke in his father’s kingdom, that he and Belle had grown up maybe a couple of hundred miles away from each other, not that far really, a week or two of travelling… he wondered if they had ever met, at a party, a dinner, a ball, anything… He wouldn’t be surprised if they had met when they were younger, but he couldn’t remember, he hadn’t been in the best shape at these things when he was young, and he  had been so scared of doing anything to embarrass George that he couldn’t remember much as a protection instinct.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Their date went better than either of them could have even imagined.
As James leant in to kiss Belle he froze. “What was that?”
Belle frowned. She had been wanting to kiss James since they had first kissed, and the next time they had, but she stilled listening. “I don’t hear any-”
~~~~~ BANG~~~~~
“-I heard that . There’s a sword on that wall!”
No sooner than James had dived for sword, did a monstrously huge spider crawl along the bookcase heading towards them, not any normal type of enlarged spider, this one was breathing fire, it seemed angry with them.
“Shit.” James automatically raced in front of Belle. “Belle, get safe!” He stood with the sword and as Belle moved to get to safety James raced towards the spider to ensure it wouldn’t chase after his date.
The spider was bigger than James, and seemed to be growing bigger the more James tried to stab it with his sword, or if he rolled or ducked away from the fire.
He found himself led on his back, trying his best to keep his sword kept between the spider’s fangs, hoping it would hold a little longer so the spider wouldn’t be able to turn him into bbq. All he could do was hope Belle had gotten away.
“Hey!” There was a whacking noise and the spider turned to look at the lilting australian voice.
James didn’t waste any time. He thrust his sword up through the spider’s skull, covering the sword in goo as the spider shrunk and collapsed. Dead. James was breathless but stood up. He used his sword to nudge the now smaller creature, it was perhaps the same size as his torso, it was no longer exactly a spider, more like a wolf mixed with the amount of legs of a spider, and the antlers of an irish Elk.”Fucking shapeshifting bastard.” James swore.
Belle walked over to James’ side. “It’s an Elkendaw, but they’re only in the Enchanted Forest, one must have come over, are you okay?”
James checked himself. “Yeah, yes I’m okay. What did you throw?” He looked down at the size of the creature. He laughed loudly. It was a copy of the same book Belle had threatened him with when they had first met.
“I told you Les Miserable could be dangerous.” Belle said laughing along with him.
When they finally stopped laughing they found themselves quiet for a second before kissing, the same feeling spread through them as had when they had first had true love’s kiss, it was undeniable now.
The kiss, what it meant, the admittance to themselves and each other, felt like relief and danger, like fire and ice, normally they both would have run from it: James always would have, and Belle had found herself scared of love after her tumultuous relationship with Rumplestilskin.
Neither felt like running anymore.
bitch I bet you thought I’d forgotten about Riverdale, “Chapter Thirty-Seven: Fortune and Men’s Eyes”
I absolutely agree with Archie’s wild careening off the side of the road of justice to plead guilty to a crime he “may as well have” committed. I couldn’t believe Archie was so preposterously on the money about himself: “I didn’t kill anyone, but I could have.” GOOD, ARCHIE. I love Juvie Archie. better than Fascist Archie!!!!
I didn’t google “prison powder” to see if that shit’s soap or for lice or what but y’all’ll fill me in on that won’t you
Tumblr media
“Leopold and Loeb” is just the level of allusory on-brand naming hubris I demand
“Captain Golightly” doesn’t seem to be a reference to anything other than a brutal dichotomy between whimsy and a dictatorial prison state
you know they hit us up with that Pop’s lighting not even at Pop’s! I never met a window I didn’t want to have bathe me in God’s light!
Sixth period is Intro to Film: the cross stitch quote on the warden’s wall, which I assume dude’s wife made for him because he and she adhere to traditional gender roles, is of course from Sonnet 29, referenced in the title to a play and 70’s movie very much about sexual slavery in prison (Archie has not seen it)
Day One at Juvie Coif: very good, uplifted, touchable but held fast
they really did the line-up of the Hot Dads of Riverdale right there: Tom seems to be eating pancakes and bacon, and FP is wearing a scarf like a headband but like a necklace
Fred’s flannel is an interesting mix of colors like, for a flannel, and Veronica appears to be wearing subtle yellow eyeshadow to go with her waitress dress
when were we going to hear about the three perjuring thugs? who corroborated Archie’s false confession???? cold
“Shadow County” is the third county in “Riverdale State”
The Blossom spawn: Dr. Patel seems to be the Cooper family GP with specialities in both obstetrics and neurology; Betty is still wearing her hospital bracelet
I never noticed the teensy blackboard under Alice’s kitchen cabinets; the Coopers are truly peak bourgeois chic
Polly’s itty bitty lace headband is good and the Farm has done wonders for her and Alice’s accessory game
Betty’s body language at “Uh...because I saw you and mom throw the twins on a fucking fire” is very funny (Betty has not told a joke yet)
Dilton Doiley is a canonically great dancer: RIP!!!!!!
I want to get out of the way that for some reason Jughead looks really good throughout this episode. I can’t explain why, maybe it’s because he’s finally wearing plaid again, but he looks good. if you thought he looked good in the first place, he’s back
is Betty wearing her Carrie: the Musical outfit?
last week I misheard Dilton and thought he said “Cardinal King,” and I was like, What? and then it got even better
Places Bughead are Fucking: the Blue & Gold office
Tumblr media
Archie > Dawson: God bless Archie but he does try to be personable with Mad Dog right away, unleashing one of his legendary “bros.” how old were you when you realized you couldn’t do a pull-up? I’ve never done a pull-up in my goddamn life and certainly not to a vinyl of a piano sonata
Mad Dog (I just wrote “God,” because I guess he’s that beautiful) has approximately 100 cigarettes, which he certainly does not smoke, so he is hoarding them for some grand purpose?
when Mad Dog turned around I swear I saw muscles I didn’t know the human body possessed. I’m talking fresh-out-of-the-science-tube Steve Rogers
Fwoopy hair is the best hair: Mad Dog’s impeccably maintained fade
The 2001 Josie and the Pussycats movie was a masterpiece: Josie has the right attitude about LBJ and Vietnam, except I think JFK got us into Vietnam, but then the Gulf of Tonkin was LBJ. I don’t want to google the Vietnam War. look, McNamara is a war criminal
Cheryl’s sheaths: I wish I had the energy to coordinate my bras with the rest of my aesthetic like Josie, in a leopard print, and Cheryl, in red lace. I will say I have recently discovered unlined bras and they have changed me for the better
Tumblr media
do you think Archie + varsity football + theater extracurriculars = Cheryl + student body president + 4.0 GPA + theater extracurriculars?
Serpent with the General-style opthalmic frames and low-rise Chucks intrigues me
Joaquin does Archie so bad!!!!!!! even after he got the fucking tattoo, damn!
Sexy, aesthetic Southside: Joaquin’s eyes are so crystal clear that I don’t think they have a color of their own. he’s wearing the optional grey shirt, so they look grey; if he wore the optional navy shirt (I can’t yet tell a difference in status) they would look blue
oh god, what is that Ghoulie doing at the fucking fence? is he slicing his fingertips for fun? what the fuck, the Ghoulies are so fucking bizarre
Archie calls Joaquin “bro” which means he is fucking serious
we all need to take a moment to ourselves to truly absorb the skull of Dr. Curdle’s son, who is also a corrupt coroner (his name tag says “Dr. Curdle Jr”). of the three most alien skulls so far, this is the most take-abacking (I HAVE seen every episode and my calculations are sound)
he’s really gonna let Dilton (RIP!!!!!) have his arm hang down off the table like that, in this, his final repose? cold
the almost ironic intonation of “signs….of stress….” as he pulls the sheet down is amazingly 50’s horror movie
“Runic, I’d say.”
mmmmmmmmmm Fresh-Aid! I listened to the Jonestown tape in an episode of Last Podcast and was well disturbed!!!!!
you tell me why Jughead is using the camera he used in the pilot instead of like, his phone camera: because Jughead?
because Jughead
Places Bughead are Fucking: coroner’s Office
I want one of these L & L shirts. I would prefer the navy version with the little sleeves
excuse me but one of these Ghoulies has an absolute 2008 sidebang
I’m writing a scene where it’s gay.: “DON’T TOUCH HIS FACE”
Veronica’s flower sweater
BEN BUTTON
Betty’s 70’s-collared Piet Mondrian shirt is super cute, although a white-backed women’s shirt with that thin Forever 21 fabric always fucks you if you have to wear a bra
the actress who plays Evelyn Evernever is named Zoé de Grand Maison and honestly I don’t know who has the better name
DOES KEVIN STILL WANT TO LOSE HIS VIRGINITY BY HALLOWEEN
if homecoming is in September or October, the schedule should be roughly 1) Archie gets out of juvie, followed by 2) Kevin loses his virginity with Moose
Gay.: Kevin’s kiss is VERY good and quite bold! for a hallway, and Moose’s twangy hair is nice
at my high school, everyone just said “rot-see” for ROTC, so surely these hip kids wouldn’t go around saying R-R-O-T-C like that, UNREALISTIC, RIVERDALE
the extremely tall gothy Vixen is even taller than the extremely tall Ghoulie and I would like to take her to homecoming
Summer + Blair = Veronica: “You’re acting like trash, and I don’t want to get a citation.”
what the hell does student body president even do? to the extent I can even recall our student body president, whose name I believe was Lauren, I think she read the afternoon announcements
Ben WAS the kid Kevin ordered that hot dog from during the James Dean closing night! (I’m not double-checking)
Ben WAS the kid Miss Grundy was ~grooming~ when she got merked!
Ben’s mom is such a boring white mom lady that she’s wearing a denim button-down with but a single flower appliqué
YOU KNOW I LOVED THAT BLAIR WITCH TWIG BABY
Officer Henderson WAS the cop who found the “HL” briefcase at the dead Serpent’s hotel room!
I looked into what starting a chapter of the Innocence Project entails for a “couple of minutes.” I assume Veronica is going to go with option one: nonprofit organization, “independently incorporated” with “its own governing board” and fundraising, as I would doubt Riverdale has a local law school or much of a public defender’s office, you know what I’m saying?
What damn high school in America: Veronica is wearing some high-waisted black slacks and quite the polka dot top, which may in fact simply be a bustier. I imagine Principal Weatherbee has battled so many times over the years with Cheryl, who is constantly toeing the line of what a 16-year-old can legally wear, that he has since given up entirely
Jughead crawling over the back of the couch and dangling the totem baby is such a throwback to Jughead crawling over the back of the diner booth and eating the whipped cream cherry that now they are simply teasing me with the grandeur of times gone by, like an Andy Williams Christmas song thrown up on 101.9 KINK
Ethel has on some sort of wicked pin but it’s not in focus!
Betty’s top is very cute, structured
everyone has their own “Yeah, I guess” face at “Dilton Doiley [RIP!!!!!!!] has a secret bunker in the woods?”
Jughead cooly threatens Ethel with quote-unquote telling the police; this of course calls back to Jughead threatening Dilton (RIP!!!!!) in the third episode with Sheriff Keller, but let me ask you this: if Betty & Jughead DID take Ethel to the sheriff, would Sheriff Minetta give a flying fuck? doesn’t he answer directly to Hiram on all things Jughead at this point? could Betty and Jughead POSSIBLY still imagine the cops will heed anything they bring them?
Sheriff Minetta: Jughead Jones now seems to be under the impression that a band of Riverdale High juniors are in an underground RPG cult that has led to a double-suicide
Hiram: Thank God
something about Jughead’s teensy Yes’m head nod is just enough like a chivalrous bow that I have thus taken the time to note how cute it is
Day Two Juvie Coif: visibly succumbing to stress, but with dignity; starting to feather
I don’t know anything about sneakers but I like Mad Dog’s hightops
the cinematography in Archie’s cell is great. I especially like the panning around Archie when he’s not even moving, just listening to Mad Dog talking about, “The moment you set foot in here,” etc.
Mädchen Amick, MÄDCHEN AMICK: FP AND ALICE BOOOOOIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!! missing is the implied scene where Alice called FP to “get over here” so they can “talk to our kids” “together”
50 Shades of Betty: Betty tries hard to communicate with only her left eyebrow, fails
am I imagining a callback to Alice assuming Jughead was the one who railroaded Betty into looking at Jason Blossom? Alice’s stance on Jughead is too exhausting to track
Alice is certainly wearing a sheer floral peasant blouse she would NOT have worn the previous two seasons, SUSPICIOUS
Places Bughead are Not Fucking: Betty’s room
Gay?!: Archie’s incredulous delight at Reggie having helped picked out his RHS-themed sneakers; the Bulldogs are all about that #threestripelife
Veronica was rich: “FRESH KICKS”
Moose is apparently a “straight beast,” if you will
one of these Serpents is holding two playing cards, just chilling and holding two playing cards. I hope his prison name is like SNAKE EYES or THE JOKER
that Ghoulie dude is so striking and elongated, I swear to God he looks like John Travolta in Grease. that undercut, the well-oiled curls on top? can he be Josie’s fall fling?
God bless jingle-jangle: can you DROP OUT of fourth grade? doesn’t the state come for you, what the fuck?
I unironically love Archie’s plan. I fucking love it
“YOU’VE NEVER KNOWN THE EPIC HIGHS AND LOWS”—ARCHIE—YOU’RE A FUCKING SAVANT
I’m looking for other good haircuts in the background. one dude has a solid Wakanda-era Bucky Barnes and there’re slicked up curls aplenty. this juvie is like a candy box
you know this bitch loves a rack focus, especially onto prison wardens
Please protect Betty: “It’s chamomile, Betty. Calm down.”
FREAKISHLY good micromoment of Alice just like wiping away an eyelash or something
aloud, with witnesses, I said “This is like when they first held hands, am I right?” and then Betty said the “kind of reminds me of when we first started dating,” just to prove to you I HAVE seen every episode
Betty calmly checking in with Jughead re: Satan’s Reindeer
he’s most certainly Ethel on stilts (I’m very bad at predicting), but I love the Gargoyle King. he’s just the right mix of she-puts-you-in-the-corner and herky-jerky T-Rex, plus she put paint on him or whatever, in case somebody put a flashlight beam on him? Ethel fucking Muggs or whoever
Tumblr media
love the sexy noir diner lighting and I will die loving it
Jughead eats: a toothpick
Day Three Juvie Coif: back at it, flush with victory; firm and wavy
Cheryl’s a chaos angel from hell: I do wish Cheryl were not so permanently a good guy. I wish she wanted to be Student Body President, all of a sudden, so badly that she was trying to keep Archie in juvie so he could never reclaim his throne, like if she were Scar
Kevin’s magenta polo has a subtle wave print
I hope the RROTC is somehow rotting from the inside, like the Adventure Scouts or Aquaholics
The female gaze: Archie’s cranking out push-ups and Mad Dog is doing tricep dips to warm up, for the game and “other business,” respectively. sometimes I like to do tricep dips too, usually for forty-five seconds while I’m waiting for the microwave to reheat my Kraft Thick N’ Creamy
Archie’s “What the hell are you to him?” is maybe his most astute query into something not being right that doesn’t include his remarkable quickness on the uptake of Jughead at the end of season one (I HAVE seen every episode)
These students are legally children: what the fuck did Mad Dog do that he’s been sentenced to like 25 years in prison? he’s a minor for God’s sake. get on this, Veronica
Places Bughead are Fucking: the fucking woods
catch me hightailing it the fuck out of there when Betty and Jughead do anything that even remotely resembles opening a circular hatch to ANYTHING out in a fucking forest clearing and peering down inside. BYE BITCHES YOU’RE ON YOUR OWN!!!!!
someone in the writer’s room at even only one point said the phrase “like in True Detective” while unspooling this yarn
Fifth period is AP English: I have to take Jughead’s word for it that there’re any bunkers in any Philip K. Dick novel
I am STILL salty that the Swords & Serpents thing IS NOT THE SAME THING as THIS RPG and that it was wholly abandoned. I can’t believe we’re not doing Jughead being sucked into the RPG cult and Betty have to haul him out SIMULTANEOUSLY with her mother being sucked into the postpartum cult and having to haul HER out
“He’s also featured prominently on this copper coin.”
y’all can just buy cyanide like that, in that glass growler? it has a “reliable prescription” sticker on it, WTF?
“Drink from the correct cup and ascend to the kingdom” is definitely ripped from one of the tracks on that Avenged Sevenfold album I bought at Borders freshman year
Jughead doubts it: “OR SOMETHING EVEN MORE INSIDIOUS”
I fucking knew that Adventure Scout was gonna be under that fucking cot but it still scared the crap out of me because The Haunting of Hill House exhausted my reserves
I’m going to come out and say that I’ve never cared for Charmed and I’m not watching the reboot. however I am exceedingly ready for Sabrina
“Princess Etheline”
guys, I found the “Jailhouse Rock” dance charming, especially the implication that the boys started the game up again in the middle to like, show off for the girls. am I getting soft in my old age?
Tumblr media
Josie’s VERY bright blue eyeshadow
Cheryl’s hair: Cheryl had to have been influenced by the trend started pre-2012 in So You Think You Can Dance wherein dancers with very long hair just leave it down
Hiram…..Archie’s in jail. what else do you want? like, he’s IN JUVIE
am I out of my fucking mind or is Hiram wearing a pin that is PSYCHOTICALLY close to being the Hydra hydra?
Archie overtaking the first few guards with those slow-mo crosses until they finally beat him down by their sheer numbers was basically a scene from Spartacus: War of the Damned
Betty’s bug print is cute while being, subconsciously, slightly unsettling; this is true for Betty as a whole
Ethel’s mustard yellow cotton cardigan has some sort of flower print on its back? COOL
I would like to extend a hearty “fuck off with that for fucking me” to whoever blocked out seizing-Ethel whipping her arm up like that with her jacked hand JUST LIKE IN HEREDITARY. FUCK OFF!, and I mean it
“Damn good coffee”: Evelyn has just the sort of niche superpower I wish I could have: to fuck with other people’s social interactions from a casual remove
Jughead is remarkably polite with 911, much calmer than with the desk nurse after Fangs got shot (I HAVE seen every episode)
(Hereditary was much better than Hill House)
Best costume bit: Monica Posh is hot
Every triangle has three corners, every triangle has three sides: Kevin wants that dick SO BADLY that he has JOINED THE ARMY (or whatever)
how did Pop’s lighting manage to glide all the way over to L&L?
Day Four Juvie Coif: slept on but still truckin’
Archie can only be fucking imagining what is about to happen to him (Archie has definitely seen Fight Club, and Jughead had to explain how it was satire)
Certified pedigree: LEGENDARY SQUAD OF PARENTS!!!!!! Hermione’s getting the band back together à la It
Penelope Blossom has gone full Victorian goth in that floor-length lace Chicago black widow number
“At the mere mention of ‘blue lips,’” Jughead wrote, “a shiver frissoned around the room.”
you can tell Alice is in a hippie cult because not only is she wearing crystals but she has stopped wearing eye makeup (I could never be in this sort of cult because if I don’t smear kohl all over them I look like I have tiny eyes; I am sensitive about this)
I’ve seen Brick like thirty times: the reveal of Ben in the window, bathed in the blue glow of Pop’s diner, was like, ~chills~
“You’ll fly too” is of course also It, which, FUCK OFF
NEXT WEEK: I could be very fucking wrong about this but FP has a tattoo on his left pec that may very well be of a jellybean
Chapter 193: The United Realms
Snow mewled into his kiss, as they slowly came down from the euphoria created by their lovemaking. It was very early that morning and it had been an exceptional night of passion in celebration of the culmination of the United Realms.
"Oh Charming…" she breathed, as he held her close and they pressed their foreheads together.
"I love you so much…" he rasped, as he kissed her tenderly again.
"Mmm...did you notice something about last night?" she asked coyly.
"You didn't have any nightmares," he observed and enjoyed her giddiness.
"But I still want you to see Archie," he added and she pecked him on the lips.
"I will...I just can't help but think this is a new beginning. I feel like this might be it. We had a few years of peace before this and maybe this time, it will be even longer," she said. He smiled and kissed her.
"I'm hoping so too, my darling," he replied, as they kissed again.
"We have a lot to do today," he mentioned, as he began kissing down her neck.
"Mmm...it's early and I'm not ready to leave this bed yet," she said, as she pushed him onto his back and straddled him. He smirked.
"Well...you do always get your way," he mused. She bit her bottom lip and their lips met again, as they gave in to their passion once again.
As the sun rose into the sky on a new day, the people of United Realms ventured out to explore their new surroundings. It had already been announced that Queen Snow and King David were throwing a grand ball that evening to welcome everyone to this new world. And it would no doubt be the event of the century. Unknown to them all though, there was now an invisible tenth realm among them they were unaware of. Nephilim, a fallen world, full of the wicked and evil that had been banished at various times in history. And now those fallen walked anonymously among the living again, ready to cause a havoc no one would see coming.
The Evil Queen was careful moving among the people of Storybrooke that morning though. She knew that if too many people saw her and let it slip to Regina when they saw her, it would only lead to them knowing something was wrong prematurely. And the Evil Queen didn't want her grand entrance to be spoiled before she was ready.
That being said, with all the Kingdoms getting ready for the ball that evening, moving about was fairly easy and making her way into Hyde's lab at the University was even easier since classes had been called off for the day.
"Well, well...it seems you have done well for yourself, Mr. Hyde," she mused, as she looked around his lab. She found her way to his potions cabinet and found that it was locked. The lock, however, was not without magical protection, but she found it was one of her own spells, or rather, Regina's.
"Thinking I was no longer a threat will be a big mistake," she muttered, as she undid the spell and opened the cabinet. She took one vial of the serum and pocketed it. She almost decided to take two, but then decided that it would be more entertaining to watch Snow and her darker half war with each other. She knew the darker half would seek more serum to use on her husband. She would want his darker half and surmised that she would enjoy watching her wreck havoc trying to do it. But probably even more deliciously, it would drive Snow's good half absolutely insane. Her insidiously good step-daughter would be wrought with anxiety and fear for her husband. She'd do anything to protect him from her darker half and that was going to be so incredibly satisfying to watch. She almost cackled with glee, as she replaced the lock and spell on the cabinet. She looked at the tiny vial of red liquid.
"This is where the fun begins…"
Elsa stretched her arms over her head and sighed deeply, before opening her eyes and smiling at the sight next to her. Leo slept beside her in her chambers, but it wasn't just for a few days or a weekend this time. Their relationship now had a sense of permanence with neither of them having to choose between their respective homes. Arendelle was now situated just outside Storybrooke and happened to now be the closest Kingdom to the reserve, which she was sure was no coincidence. Her future in-laws had probably consciously done that for them when they cast the good curse. And today was the beginning of their new lives together.
"Mmm...you can't be getting up yet," he drawled sleepily, as he wrapped his arms around her and rested his head against her stomach. She chuckled.
"You know we have to. I still have a Kingdom to run and you have the reserve. Plus...there's a very important ball tonight and I will need to attend with my King," she replied. He looked up at her.
"Your King?" he asked.
"That's what you'll be when we get married. King of Arendelle," she replied.
"But you're the Queen...you should rule. I shouldn't be ranked above you simply because I'm a man. In fact, I won't do that," he protested. She smiled at him and caressed his face.
"And you won't...we'll rule together equally, just like your parents always have. You're a Prince by birth and though your father wasn't, your mother still appointed him as her King. Such is her right as Queen and it's mine as well," she replied, as she cupped his face in her hands.
"And while I'm tending to matters of state in Arendelle, my King will spend his days in the reserve that he loves and overseeing Arendelle's Knights," she added. He smiled.
"Which means I only have to attend certain meetings," he said. She nodded.
"Only the ones where I need you to scare a few more years off the Duke of Wesselton," she teased.
"I don't know why he's so afraid of me. Your powers are way stronger than mine," he mused.
"Mine are at their strongest with animals," he added.
"Well, I think he's afraid of me too, but knows you can summon a tiger to eat him if you wanted to," she joked. He chuckled.
"I just got the mental image of one of the tigers chasing him, so thanks for that," he joked back, as their lips met tenderly.
"Are you sure you have to get up?" he purred.
"I just decided I'm going to be a little late," she replied, as their lips met again.
David put the plate of pancakes on the table for his kids and his father, as they dug into breakfast. Snow came down the stairs and kissed him tenderly, before getting a plate and sitting down with them.
"Are we going to keep living here or are we moving to yours and Dad's castle?" Bobby asked curiously, as they ate. Snow and David exchanged a glance.
"Well...we actually talked a little bit about that last night together and we wanted to talk to you two first before we decided," Snow responded, as they looked at their two youngest.
"Yeah...now that the castle your mother grew up in and mine and your Uncle James' castle are so close, we were thinking that we'd move into ours with your Uncle James and Aphrodite," David said. Snow nodded.
"And then your Nana will probably move into the one I grew up in with Robin, Zelena, her fiance, Roland, Jade, and Alice," Snow added.
"But that's only if you two want that. If you'd rather stay here...then we will," David told them. Summer and Bobby looked at each other.
"Will you and Mom sell this house to another family?" Bobby asked uncertainly. They knew it was extremely important that he feel a sense of stability after everything he went through in Seattle.
"We were actually thinking about giving this house to Emma and Killian since they're going to be having a baby soon," Snow said. Bobby nodded, seeming to like that idea. It meant he could come over here whenever he wanted.
"Aren't the castles kind of...not modernized though?" Summer asked. David chuckled.
"Not yet...but they will be. Your Nana and Aphrodite are actually already working on the spell for that little project, so by the time we would move in, they would be," he answered.
"Modernization is definitely a selling point for bringing all the realms together," Snow agreed.
"Then I guess it'd be pretty cool to live in the castle," Bobby agreed.
"Yeah, it would and then I can visit Nana all the time at her castle too," Summer added, as Eva and Paul came in.
"Hey sweetheart," Snow greeted.
"Morning Mom," she said, as she hugged her and then her father.
"There's plenty left since your brother isn't here. I'll warm it up," Snow offered, as they sat down.
"Thank you," Paul said, as they sat down. Eva waited for Bobby to scamper off to his room and then sat down next to her father.
"Okay...Mom is occupied so this is the perfect time to tell you about my plan," Eva said. David chuckled.
"And what plan is that?" he asked.
"The one where yours and Mom's fortieth wedding anniversary is coming up," she reminded. He smirked.
"I haven't forgotten...but I haven't decided what to get her yet," he responded.
"Which is why we're going to throw mom a super secret surprise anniversary party at Granny's," Eva said. David thought for a moment.
"Your mother does love throwing parties so she'd never suspect it if I threw her one," he agreed.
"But...is Granny's really big enough? I mean, you know I love spoiling your mother," he added.
"You could throw a block party on Main Street right outside Granny's. It's still summer so the weather should hold," Paul suggested. Eva gasped and kissed her husband's cheek.
"That's perfect...we can hire a band, Joe and Frankie can cater, and we can decorate the whole place with snowdrops. Oh, this is so perfect," Eva gushed, as Snow returned with warm food.
"Thanks Mom," she said, as they started eating breakfast, while David pulled Snow down into his lap. She smiled and put her arms around his neck, as he kissed her tenderly.
"What was that for?" she purred.
"Because I love you so much…" he replied. She gently caressed her face.
"I love you too...I guess I should get to Archie's," she said and he could tell she was a bit nervous.
"Hey...it'll be fine. I'll go with you if you want me to," he offered.
"Thanks...but I think this is something I need to do myself. But meet me at Granny's after for a cocoa?" she asked. He smiled and kissed her again.
"And a walk down by the Toll bridge," he agreed, as they shared another kiss and he walked her to the door. They had the ball tonight, but their anniversary was in a week, which gave them ample time to plan.
"Okay...I'll talk to Joe and Frankie about the catering," he said once Snow left.
"And we'll take care of the rest. One week from today, you'll just need to keep Mom busy and out of Storybrooke for the day," Eva replied. He smirked.
"No problem...I'm very good at keeping your mother busy," he said.
"The less details the better, daddy," she chided. Paul chuckled, as they left for the day.
"You really think she won't suspect anything?" Xander asked his son.
"Snow is always throwing parties for everyone else. She'll expect some romantic gesture from me, which she'll think is us spending the day alone. Trust me, she'll never suspect it's only a ruse to keep her busy," he replied. Xander shook his head in amusement, as David hurried upstairs.
"And the eternal honeymoon continues," he muttered fondly to himself.
"So...this is the serum that can split a person in half, based on their dark side and light side?" Seth questioned, as he examined the red serum in the vial that the Queen had managed to obtain already.
"It is...this serum made me an outcast in my own marriage and family. I lost everything," she said, forlornly, as she looked into the crystal ball they had set up to observe the day to day happenings around the new United Realms. The images she was focused on at that moment was watching Roland, Summer, and Bobby. The former was spending the day with his father, per usual and Summer had made her triumphant return to dancing at school. The school year hadn't started yet, but practice for the school dance troop had already begun, since the summer was waning and they were only a few weeks away from the beginning of her senior year.
Roland was on the cusp of beginning his first year at Storybrooke University and it was a very big year for him as well. Regina would be getting to experience those milestones with her step-son and granddaughter. Something that was taken from her when she was separated from her other half. Additionally though, Snow would be getting to enjoy her daughter's accomplishments as well, which angered her even more. The possibility of taking some of that away from her was very appealing. In the back of her mind, she knew that causing her mother pain would cause Summer and subsequently Bobby pain as well. They were quite possibly the ones she cared about most, though she also had a soft spot for the twins. It had been pointed out to her more than once that her affection and love for the children of her greatest nemesis was in direct conflict with the hatred she had for their mother. And that hurting their mother would ensure they would never love her. But that did not make her thirst for revenge against Snow dissipate.
"So...are you going to corner the little waif and administer it today?" Mim questioned.
"No...not yet. I thought the ball tonight would make the perfect spectacle, but I've already gotten wind of the prince's plan to throw his wife a milestone anniversary party in a week. I've decided this will be the perfect platform to make our big reveal," the Queen said.
"But tonight is the ball...we should do it tonight," Mim argued.
"No...I believe this party will be better suited. It's more intimate," Seth agreed.
"Tonight, with our glamor spells, will be the perfect opportunity to anonymously gather Intel. Then next week's event will be the perfect time to make our presence known," he added. Mim scoffed, but did not argue.
"I agree. And wrecking Snow's precious anniversary celebration will just be icing on the proverbial cake so to speak," the Queen mentioned.
"Then it's settled. Tonight, we will unknowingly mingle with the citizens of this new United Realms and gather vital information in the process. Then we will plot the next phase of our my plan," he agreed.
"And then usually the dreams end when David kisses me awake. It's been a bit worrisome that it seems to take true love's kiss to pull me out of the...dreams," Snow explained.
"It is and I'm afraid I would have to call these dreams what they really are and that's night terrors," Archie purported. She nodded.
"So...do you think it's PTSD?" she asked. He smiled.
"Been doing a bit of your own research?" he lightly teased. She smiled.
"A bit," she admitted.
"I'd say it's textbook PTSD...but it's no wonder after everything you've been through. It's a testament to how strong you are though. A lesser person wouldn't even still be standing. But you're still able to be happy, have hope, and care about others," Archie said. Snow shrugged.
"David and our children are the reason for that," she confirmed.
"If I lost them again…" she started to say, before tearing up.
"I can't lose them again...I don't think I'd survive it again," she confessed.
"I've known you and David a long time and I think he is holding onto you way too tightly for you to lose him," Archie reminded. She sniffed.
"I lost him for ten years the first time...and then two more," she reminded in return. He smiled gently.
"But there was twenty plus years in between where you were together and there was peace, so we know it's possible," he countered. She smiled and nodded.
"You're right...I find myself hoping that this is a new era of peace," she mentioned.
"That is my hope too. I think that's everyone's hope. Even if there is adversity though, I've watched you and David overcome absolutely everything, more than should really be possible for two people to conquer," he replied. She nodded.
"Love wins…" she muttered.
"It surely does, especially when it's yours and David's love," he added.
"I understand that this doesn't make the anxiety and fear stop though. I'd like us to keep talking about what you went through and if you would like, I can prescribe an anti-anxiety med or even a light sedative for nighttime," he suggested.
"No pills," Snow refuted. He sighed.
"I understand your aversion to prescription meds. How about something natural and over the counter, like a small dose of melatonin?" Snow still looked unsure at that.
"And if you don't want the pill form, they make lotions now to help promote a restful sleep. It will relax you and quiet your mind, hopefully enough that you'll enjoy uninterrupted sleep," he suggested.
"I suppose a lotion would be okay," she relented.
"Good...the pharmacy sells it," he told her. She nodded.
"I'll pick some up on the way home," she agreed, as she stood up.
"Good...then I'll see you next week at the same time?" he asked. She smiled and nodded, agreeing to continue their sessions.
"Yes...and I'll see you tonight at the ball, I assume?" she asked. He smiled and nodded.
"Of course," he agreed, as she pet Pongo and made her way out. She took a deep breath of fresh air, as she came outside. She did feel better talking about it and now she was looking forward to meeting her husband at the diner. She started walking that way and found Jane walking the other way.
"Snow?" she asked in surprise.
"Jane...it's so good to see you," Snow replied, as they shared a hug.
"You too...it's so good to be home," she agreed.
"I'll bet...I was hoping we'd see each other before the ball tonight," she mentioned.
"Me too...but I didn't know you were going to come? I know Tarzan isn't fond of balls," Snow answered.
"He's not...but he likes you and David, so he says he'll endure it, especially since Clayton will never again darken a door," Jane responded. Snow smiled.
"We like Tarzan too and thankfully, we can say that the Collector will never hurt anyone again," she agreed.
"Well...there's much to do before tonight, but we can catch up more then," Jane said, as she hurried off.
"I look forward to it," Snow called, as she turned to continue on her way, but unfortunately ran right into none other than Rodmilla Tremaine. The steely gaze that the woman gave her was cold enough to give a frosty coating to one of Elsa's ice palaces, but Snow held her chin high when facing this woman.
"Well...I see that you're back and all of this is your doing," Rodmilla said, gesturing toward the expanded land beyond the town.
"And I take it you don't approve?" Snow questioned.
"The only thing I'll ever approve of is you getting what you deserve…" she hissed.
"I heard the stories...it's too bad Dr. Facilier junior is no longer with us. I'd love to congratulate him on succeeding in locking you up in a mental hospital for two years like you've locked up my Drizella!" she snapped.
"Drizella is where she is, because she's actually disturbed. I was put there to keep their curse in tact," Snow argued.
"You're an evil little retch that deserves every misfortune you get. You are not the least bit sorry about locking my daughter away," Rodmilla claimed.
"You know what? You're right...I'm not sorry. I'm not sorry that she's locked away where she can't hurt my husband and I'm just sorry you're not in a cell beside her anymore," Snow snapped, as she shoved passed her and kept moving along.
"I will see that you pay, Snow White! I don't know how...but I'll finish your torment that Dr. Facilier's grandson started if it's the last thing I do," Rodmilla called. Snow fumed, as she walked away and made her way to the diner. She was so focused on her fury that she stormed right into David, who was waiting for her.
"Whoa...where's the fire?" he asked, as he put his arms around her. She sighed, as her fury melted away in his presence.
"Rodmilla Tremaine…" she said, knowing that she didn't really need to say anything else.
"I felt really good after seeing Archie and then I had to run into her," she lamented. He kissed her forehead.
"I'm sorry...I don't agree with her being free for what she tried to do to you," he said.
"Me either...but she served her time and somehow was granted early parole," she replied. He sighed.
"Which just happened to be held in the short time while we were gone," he added, knowing that was the only reason she had been granted release, because they had not been there to protest.
"She threw it in my face that I was locked up in a mental hospital just like I made sure Drizella was locked up," she muttered.
"We made that decision...not just you," he reminded.
"You don't think she's got a point? I mean...maybe that was karma," she fretted.
"No...absolutely not, Snow. The Drizella Tremaine that tormented us belongs exactly where she is. You are nothing like her," he refuted.
"She drugged me and would have gone further if you hadn't stopped her. And then she and her evil mother tortured you. She doesn't have a solid grasp on reality and is obsessed with this idea that she's supposed to have a Prince Charming like some kind of trophy," he continued, as he put his hands on her shoulders.
"And if her mother comes near you again...then she's going to end up right back in a prison cell," he promised, as he hugged her and she relished his arms around her.
"Here you go...two cocoas with cinnamon," Joe said, as he came outside with their drinks. They smiled and took their drinks.
"Thanks Joe," David said.
"Enjoy your walk and we'll see you tonight at this fancy ball," he replied. Snow smiled.
"We look forward to it. I think you and Frankie will enjoy your first one," she said, as they joined hands and ventured off toward the Toll Bridge. As always, on their trek, she sounded off to her husband, her most intimate confidante, about her talk with Archie.
"And I know he was trying to help by prescribing an anxiety medication, but I just...can't take pills. Every time I think about even taking an aspirin, I feel like I'm going to have a panic attack," she said. He squeezed her hand.
"It's no wonder...after what they did to you. But I'm going to get you through this, my darling," he promised, as they stood at the bridge and listened to the babbling stream below. She smiled at him and set her cup on the railing so she could slip her arms around his neck.
"I know you will...you're the reason I'm not coming apart at the seams," she joked, though it wasn't really much of a joke. He chuckled and kissed her tenderly.
"Well, I'm here to put you back together, my beautiful Snow...and I always will be," he promised. She melted at that and kissed him again, this time with even more heat and passion. She pressed her forehead against his, as their lips parted and she gazed into those cerulean eyes that she loved so much.
"I suppose we should get back and get ready for tonight," she mentioned. He nodded and they laced their fingers together, as they began the trek back to their house.
Fandral waited with their children, as they were all dressed in their best and just as the sun was setting on the first complete day in the United Realms. For this evening's ball, his formal attire was red with golden trim and accents, so it was no surprise that his wife's gown was red as well, like her name. But it still did not prepare him for how breathtaking she was in that gown.
"Oh my love…" he uttered, as she floated to him. Her full fanned ball gown was red with off the shoulder sleeves. It glittered all over and the neckline dipped beautifully in a v, while her raven hair was done up in a beautiful twist, with a tiara resting atop her head. Simple, elegant diamonds set in gold adorned her neck and ears for jewelry and two curls remained loose, framing her face on either side.
"Is it too much?" she asked.
"No...you look like the goddess you certainly are," he replied. She smiled and slipped her arms around his neck.
"You're looking very handsome yourself, my warrior," she purred, as their lips met in a passionate kiss. Carina rolled her eyes, while the twins fidgeted impatiently.
"Mom...Daddy...can we go already?" the eldest asked in annoyance. They smiled, as their lips parted.
"Yes, we can," Rose confirmed, as her husband offered his elbow and she hooked her hand on it, as they headed out to the carriage.
"Wow Mom...that dress is amazing," Eva mentioned, as she, her sisters, and her mother all got ready together.
"She's right...dang mom," Emma agreed, as Snow looked down a bit shyly. Emma had chosen a bright red gown, Eva had gone with a soft pink satin one, and Summer had of course chosen one a shimmering violet one.
As for Snow, the entire bodice of her gown was satin covered in solidly in silver glitter. The skirt portion of the dress reached the floor and was pure white; a mixture of satin and chiffon. Tiny silver glittering flowers dotted the skirt and the dress was sleeveless, except it had iridescent sleeves that were also dotted with glittery flowers. Her ensemble was complete with elegant jewelry and her mother's tiara atop her head.
"I thought it might be too much," Snow mentioned, as she bit her bottom lip.
"Definitely not...you look amazing, Mom," Summer confirmed.
"Thanks sweetie...and look at you. So beautiful...all my girls are," she gushed.
"And since we're all here...I want to run an idea by you," Snow said.
"What is it?" Emma asked.
"Well...a week from today happens to be mine and your father's fortieth wedding anniversary, if you count curse years, which we do and I want to throw him a surprise party!" Snow announced. Emma had to bite back a laugh at that and Eva had to resist the urge to shake her head. She should have seen this coming.
"So...you want to throw Daddy a surprise party," Summer mused, trying to hide her laughter.
"Yeah...I'm just not sure exactly what yet. I mean, he doesn't dislike these kinds of events, but I know he loves it more when we throw more casual parties at Granny's. But Granny's is a bit small," Snow said.
"You know what, Mom...I think I have the perfect idea," Eva interjected.
"Really?" she asked. Her middle daughter nodded.
"It's still August so it should be warm enough to throw a block party outside Granny's. Joe and Frankie can cater and we can hire a band. In fact, I insist on taking care of all of that," Eva said.
"Really sweetie?" she asked in surprise.
"Definitely," Eva confirmed.
"That sounds wonderful...are you sure you don't need help though?" Snow asked.
"I'm sure...let us take care of everything. The only thing you have to do is keep Daddy busy that day and away from the main part of town," Eva replied.
"That shouldn't be too hard. I'm very good at distracting your father," Snow mused.
"Mmm...yeah, the less details the better, Mom," Eva admonished, as her mother turned back to finish her final touches, while Emma and Summer pulled Eva out of earshot.
"Uh...you're aware that Dad is already throwing the same party you just mentioned for Mom, right?" Emma asked.
"Of course...which is why this is perfect. I mean...they're so in sync that they think they're throwing each other an anniversary party," Eva replied. Summer giggled.
"So when they show up, they'll end up surprising each other. That is so Mom and Dad," she agreed. Emma shook her head.
"Yeah...that pretty much sums them up. One heart and one mind," Emma agreed. Eva grinned.
"This is going to be so much fun," she gushed.
"Ready?" Snow asked, as her daughters shared a secret smile and then followed her out to where David was waiting with Bobby. Her husband was wearing a silver/gray formal tunic and pants, with a white sash, with a shiny badge pinned to it, signifying his rank as both King and Supreme Sheriff of the United Realms. Bobby was wearing a mini-version of what his father was wearing, simply because Snow couldn't help herself.
"Wow…" David uttered, as he saw his wife, dressed and looking like a Goddess.
"Wow yourself, handsome…" she purred, as he slid his arms around her waist.
"Okay...let's go before they scar us even more," Emma joked, as she, her brother, and her sisters left.
"I guess we should go too," Snow said, biting her bottom lip.
"Yeah...but there's always after the ball," he whispered in her ear. She smiled and picked up his sword. She had transformed the chalice into their weapons and handed his to him.
"You think I'll need my sword?" he asked.
"It's us," she replied.
"Good point," he agreed, as he fastened his formal scabbard to his waist and sheathed the weapon.
"Wait...where are your gauntlets?" he asked.
"Aphrodite showed me how to put them in a pocket dimension," she replied, as he put his arms around her and she noticed he was looking at her skirt.
"What? Did you think I had them hidden in my dress?" she joked. He shrugged.
"It wouldn't be the first time you hid a weapon in one of your dresses," he said in a husky tone. She grinned.
"Oh, so you like it when your wife packs concealed weapons?" she teased.
"Hell yes…" he purred, as they kissed again.
"Well...then you'll be happy to know that I am wearing a holster somewhere and it has a dagger, which means later...you can play find the dagger," she giggled. He kissed her again.
"I love that game," he said, as they finally manage to part. They shared a smile and she hooked her hand on his elbow, as they followed their children out of the castle rooms and to the winding staircase that would lead them to the ballroom.
"The goodness in this room is suffocating…" a blonde woman complained quietly, as she perused the buffet table.
"I feel the same...but this is necessary. These disguises will serve us well though and allow us to integrate into the masses," a handsome man with brown hair replied.
"Well...these two were in the right place at the right time and no one will find the bodies until we've revealed ourselves," the woman replied.
"Besides...no one will miss the seventh in line Prince Edward of the Southern Isles and his southern belle wife Charlotte La Bouff," the woman said, in her best southern accent. The man smirked.
"You are a very good actress, Your Majesty," he whispered.
"You're not so bad yourself. Come on...let's introduce ourselves to my insipid step-daughter and her idiot husband," she said, as they approached the famed couple that was responsible for all this. She could tell Snow was already annoyed in talking to King Magnus' wife, Freya, whom the Evil Queen had to pretend was her sister-in-law. She certainly hoped she could bring her plan to fruition soon, because she wasn't sure how much of this she could take.
"Oh yes...Snow was such a little scamp when she was little. And believe me, making this one into a proper Princess was not easy when she was always in the garden, talking to birds and such," Freya gushed and Snow fought the urge to toss her wine on the woman.
"Well, Snow is the most beautiful, incredible woman in all the realms, whether she's dressed as she is tonight or as a bandit in the woods like she was the first time I saw her. No one could ever compare to her," David said, as he pressed a soft kiss to her lips.
"Oh my...he is really good at that Prince Charming thing. You know, I'd love to dance with the legendary Prince Charming," Freya purred.
"Sorry...but Prince Charming only dances with the love of his life, Snow White," David said, without missing a beat, before leading her to the dance floor. Snow gazed at him with a dreamy stare, but they were unfortunately cut off by another pair.
"Oh my goodness...it's really you!" the blonde gushed with a southern style accent.
"I'm sorry...you are?" Snow asked.
"Your Majesties...I am Charlotte La Bouff and this is my husband, Prince Edward. Seventh in line for the Throne of the Southern Isles," she replied.
"It is quite an honor, Your Majesties," Edward stated, as he bowed to them.
"Oh please...that's not necessary," David admonished, as they stood upright.
"The stories of your lives and heroics are so inspirin'," Charlotte gushed.
"Yes...we so enjoy those thrilling tales and I must say that is a magnificent sword," Edward complimented, as he gestured to the ornate jeweled hilt of Charming's chalice sword.
"Well...we won't keep you lovebirds any longer. Come along, dear," Charlotte said, as Edward shook David's hand at the same time that his other hand remained on the hilt of his sword. A brief vision assaulted David's mind at that moment and he saw sheer devastation and havoc wrecking through the United Realms. But as quickly as the vision assaulted his mind it was gone. His eyes were wide and he faltered a bit, as he looked at Edward in disbelief.
"Baby...are you okay?" Snow asked worriedly, as she steadied him.
"Uh...yeah, I'm fine. Just lost my balance there for a sec. Probably too much wine," he replied, playing it off. Snow knew better though, as he had only had one glass so far, but she smiled at the other couple.
"I'm fine...let's have that dance now," he insisted, as he led her to the dance floor and swept her into his arms.
"My love...you're trembling…" she said worriedly, as she pressed her cradled his face in her hands.
"I'm...I'm not sure I can explain it. But when I shook his hand, I had my hand on the hilt of my sword," he explained.
"And the chalice showed you something," she said knowingly. He sighed and nodded, as he pressed his forehead against hers.
"I guess I should have known that you'd get it," he replied.
"What did you see?" she asked.
"Destruction...of the United Realms," he replied, as his voice took on a haunted tone.
"Oh...well, maybe you saw something from the past…" she suggested. He nodded.
"That makes sense...but why would the chalice show me that?" he asked.
"I...I don't know. Maybe Aphrodite will know something," she replied. He nodded and sighed.
"It can wait though...we should make our speech," he said. She nodded, as the song ended and they walked hand in hand to the podium that awaited them.
"Thank you all for coming this evening," Snow greeted, as her hand never left David's.
"We are excited to welcome everyone to this new era in our history; one where the realms are one again, just as they were thousands of years ago," she began and did not notice Prince Edward's eyes darken at her words.
"Evil and destruction tore us apart in those dark times, but it is love that has reunited us," Snow said, as she looked at her husband and he smiled at her.
"We know that with change comes uncertainty and the unknown, which can be unsettling. But we believe that uniting the realms will create prosperity for all," she continued and nodded to him.
"Despite the unknown and uncertainty, we are confident that this new era will be one of peace and happiness. And we know that, because love is stronger than any evil or hate. Love is the most powerful magic of all and love will light our future," David continued, as he squeezed her hand.
"No matter what Snow and I have had to face, love has always prevailed and will forever forge our path. We have built our legacy on hope, faith, and love and we will continue to do so in our service of all the people of the United Realms," he added.
"Though peace can never be guarantee, we can promise that we will always be on the front lines to protect all and defend all," he concluded. Snow smiled at him.
"No matter what we have faced, we have always found each other. Love and hope has always been enough and will always be enough. Like my husband said, peace is never a guarantee. But love is. Hope is. And like our family, we can promise that the United Realms has been created and built on a foundation of love and hope. A foundation we will build on and that will prosper...for all time," Snow finished. Their speech was met with applause from everyone and though Prince Edward and Charlotte applauded with the others, they glared at the pair on the podium with barely hidden malice, though it went unnoticed. But then why wouldn't it? Snow and Charming were too absorbed in each other and their guests were equally absorbed by the charismatic couple that embodied a love so true that it was beyond comprehension for some.
They agreed that this was a new era, but this duo, concealed by a pair of glamor spells, promised that the dawn of this new beginning would be tumultuous and their enemies would feel the full weight of their coming revenge. And the best part...they wouldn't see it coming...
50. Labor of Love, Pt.5
Tumblr media
Storybrooke. Blanchard Apartment. (Henry is telling his family and friends about the storybooks.) David: “What made you think of that idea?” Henry: “The Apprentice. I saw him at... at Granny's. And like in New York, there were dozens of storybooks with hundreds of stories I’d never read before. If we find the storybook with Hades’ story, we can learn his weakness and defeat him.” Regina: “Finally, some good news.” Henry: “Well, sort of. The house is locked with magic, and the sheriff has the key.” Emma: “Which means my evil Uncle, right?” Regina: “Your evil twin is sheriff? (David nods:) Hades has a sense of humour, I'll give him that.” David: “It's time for my brother and me to have an overdue chat.” Snow White: “Well, you won't be alone. I still owe him a punch in his pretty mouth for kissing me.” David: (Annoyed and slightly jealous:) “He kissed you?” Snow White: “Thought it was you.” (Heads to the door.) David: “Let's go.” (Follows her.) (They open the door to find Zelena standing there.) Robin: “Zelena?!” Regina: “Where’s the baby?” Zelena: “She’s safe, I left her with Belle for the time being.” Robin: “I don’t understand, what’s going on?” Zelena: “Our baby. She's in danger.” Storybrooke Library. (Belle is in the library carrying the baby when the elevator suddenly starts coming up. Belle hides behind a bookshelf as Mr Gold steps out.) Belle: (Gasps:) “Rumple.” Mr. Gold: “Belle. What are you doing here?” Belle: “Er, Zelena asked me to watch the baby for an hour or so. She seems upset." Mr. Gold: “Where is Zelena now?” Belle: “I think she went to find help, I’m not sure. Why do you need to see her?” Mr. Gold: (Sighs:) “It’s Hades. He’s using leverage to force me. Look... (Sighs:) a long time ago, long before we even met... I made a deal... One I never thought would rear its head.” Belle: “What did you do?” Mr. Gold: “My boy was sick. In exchange for Baelfire's life... I made a deal to give up my second-born child.” Belle: “But you don't have a second-born child.”
Tumblr media
Mr. Gold: (Sighs, motions towards her midsection:) “It happened, Belle.” Belle: “N... I'm... I-I'm pregnant? (Sighs, sniffles:) W-We're gonna have a baby? A-a baby that you've already sold!” Mr. Gold: “Yes, but... but w-we can fix that. I'll use all my power. W-We can fix this.” Belle: “P-Power? What... You're the Dark One again.” Mr. Gold: “No. In fact, Hades used the last remnants of the Darkness to bring his Kingdom to Storybrooke. What power I have, comes from years of experience.” Belle: “Knowledge of Dark magic you mean.” Mr. Gold: “Yes, I’m afraid that’s mostly all I know. The difference is, now I can control it and not have it control me. Not again.” Belle: “Right. Are you sure there’s no other way?” Mr. Gold: “Belle, there's something you must realize. (Sighs:) Falling in love with the man behind the beast... isn't really what happened to you. You fell in love with me... because there was a man and a beast. Neither exists without the other.” Belle: “No. No, that’s not true.” Mr. Gold: “Yes, it is. Even when I was a coward, I craved power. The only difference is, now I have it. And I won't let it go.” Belle: “I-I can't condone you using dark magic.” Mr. Gold: “Yes, you can. You just have to choose to. And if you do... we can have what's important... Family, happiness. It's your choice.” Belle: “No, I'm, uh... (Sniffles:) I'm not making any choices... not now. (Inhales shakily:) Not until you've fixed... all of this.” Mr. Gold: “Then that's what I shall do. But you'll see I'm right. You'll see.” Sheriff’s Station. (Snow White and David enter the Sheriff's station in search of the key to the Sorcerer's Mansion.) David: “Looks like my evil twin's out on patrol.” Snow White: “Great. Then let's find that key and get the hell out of here. Top drawer, I bet. You two are so alike.” David: “Next you're gonna say we kiss the same. Never mind. Don't want to know. Just find the key.” Snow White: (Searching through the drawer in the desk for the key, and she finds it, holding it up:) “It looks just like the Sorcerer’s hat.” Cruella De Vil: (Calling from another room:) “James? Is that you, darling?” Snow White: (Whispering:) “Cruella.” Cruella De Vil: “James?” David: (Whispering:) “Go. I've got this.” Snow White: (Protesting:) “No, David!” David: “No, she thinks I'm him. Go, go, go, go, go.” (Snow White quickly leaves with the key.) Cruella De Vil: (Enters the room carrying a bottle of wine and two glasses, and she sighs:) “Oh, I'm so glad you're here, James darling. I've had a nasty, fruitless day, and Mummy needs to unwind.” (Starts walking towards him.) David: (Stunned:) “I'm sure you do.” (Cruella kisses him, before making him sit down and she sits on his lap.) Cruella De Vil: “So, Sheriff... what would you like to try first? The champagne or me? (She pops the cork on the champagne:) Ha.” (David chuckles uncomfortably.)
Tumblr media
Granny’s Diner. (Emma and Regina are at Granny's. Emma is on edge.) Regina: “Will you stop staring at the door? When your parents walk through it, I promise I'll tell you.” Emma: “Maybe this was a bad idea. I should've gone with them.” Regina: “Would you relax? People are starting to stare at us.” Emma: “Oh, please. We just saved their butts, again. (Sits down:) Why did Hades let us free everyone, anyway?” Regina: “I don’t know. But I definitely don’t think he’s acting alone.” Emma: “What makes you say that?” Regina: “Gods aren’t known to be hands on when it comes to their scheming.” Emma: “Do you suspect, Zelena?” Regina: (Shrugs:) “She’s definitely hiding something. (Sips from her cup:) Hows the hand?” Emma: “What?” Regina: (Chuckles:) “One of the perks of being friends with your mother is the gossip. She told me you were acting strangely earlier.” Emma: (Sighs:) “Yeah, she already sent Archie after me. The poor man hadn’t even been out of his cell for more than an hour. It’s nothing, really.” Regina: “No, it’s definitely something. But obviously you’re not ready to talk about it yet. (As Emma starts to protest:) Which is fine. You know I’ll be here when you’re ready to talk.” Emma: (Sighs, relieved:) “I do. (Puts her hand on Regina’s arm:) Thank you.” Henry: (Enters, walking up to Emma and Regina:) “Moms... Grandma found the key.” The Sorcerer’s Mansion. (The trio make their way through the house.) Regina: (Moves a spider web aside:) “Wonderful. I love what they've done with the place. Let’s not spend any more time here than we have to?” Emma: “Uh, yeah. Henry, you gotta stay here.” Henry: “But this was my idea. I'm not gonna stand behind and do nothing.” Emma: “You're not doing nothing. You're the lookout.” Henry: “Lookout?” Regina: “Don't argue with your mother.” Henry: “But...” Regina: “Or your mother.” (Regina and Emma go together, leaving Henry alone in the room.) Henry: “Last time you leave me behind.” (Henry walks off in another direction, determined to find what he needs.)
Tumblr media
Storybrooke. Elsewhere. (Belle is carrying Baby Hood down a lane when she hears the voices of Robin and Zelena.) Robin Hood: “Belle, is that you?! (Belle rounds the corner and Robin and Zelena run up to her. Takes Baby Hood:) Hey.” Robin Hood: “Are you okay?” Belle: “She's fine.” Robin Hood: “Are you okay? Daddy's got you. Daddy's got you. Oh. Thank you.” Zelena: (Walks up:) “Yes. Thank you.” Belle: “Oh, I er... did it for the baby.” Zelena: “Yes, well that’ll be the last time I thank anyone, then.” (Baby Hood begins to cry.) Robin Hood: (Attempts to soothe the child:) “Oh. Shh!” (Crying continues.) Zelena: “I've got a bottle. Give her to me. (Robin hesitates:) I came and got you, remember? It's all right. There's nothing nefarious in feeding.” Robin Hood: “Yes, of course, I’m sorry.” (Hands the baby over.) Zelena: (Chuckles as she feeds her baby:). “There, there, my little sweet pea. There, there. Are you hungry? Yes, you are. Your mummy knows exactly what you need, doesn't she? Yes, she does.” Belle: “So, does she have a name yet?” Robin Hood: “No. Not yet. We can't.” Zelena: “Hades can do things with names. (Sighs, sniffles:) Goodbye, little one. Mummy has to let you go. (Kisses her baby and begins to sob. Zelena hands her over to Robin who looks confused:) Take her. You can protect her, and I can't.” Robin Hood: “Zelena, what are you talking about?” Zelena: “Hades. He’ll be after our baby.” Belle: “What, why?” Zelena: (Sighs:) “He wants to use her... for a spell. For my time-travel spell. He's got the same thirst for vengeance as I do. You know, he had love in his heart. But because of me, it's gone.” Belle: “And she's the ingredient. Symbol of innocence.” Zelena: “Take her.” (Zelena disappears in a cloud of smoke.) Belle: “What will you do with her?” Robin Hood: “I don’t know. But if Hades is after this baby, I have to stay hidden.(Looks around:) I’ll have to take her to the forest. (At Belle’s worried look:) Honestly, it's the only place I've ever felt really at home.” Sheriff’s Station. (Cruella and David are still in the Sheriff's station, and Cruella is trying to get him to drink the champagne.) Cruella De Vil: “Come on. Drink up like a good boy.” David: (Refuses to drink:) “I have to get up for an early patrol.” Cruella De Vil: (Scoffs, but continues to kiss his face:) “Is Mummy boring you, James? Normally you're so much more enthusiastic when I come to visit you in your dungeon. (Gasps:) Oh. Maybe we need to try spicing things up with a little hardware, hmm?” (Picks up a pair of handcuffs before kissing him again.) David: (Finally has had enough and throws her off him:) “Does this act really work on him? Because, frankly, I find it repulsive.” Cruella De Vil: “Oh, boo! Couldn't you have pretended to be Jimmy a little while longer?” David: (Shocked:) “Wait. You mean all this time, you knew?” Cruella De Vil: (Sighs:) “Well, of course I knew. I mean, you might look like him, but you have none of his unique, delicious damage.” David: “What damage is that?” Cruella De Vil: “The damage you're responsible for, darling.” David: “Me?! I never even met the guy!” Cruella De Vil: “Oh, sure you have. When you were infants, curled up safe in your mummy's arms, until she had to choose which one of you went to live with the king and who stayed with her. She had to pick her favorite, and she picked you.” David: “That is not my fault.” Cruella De Vil: “Well, your brother disagrees. He's spent his whole life and death wondering why you and not him.” David: “Well, I don't have the answers for him, okay?” Cruella De Vil: “Oh, there it is. That same damage I see in James. One of these days, you two are going to meet and it's going to be... one hell of a reunion.”
Tumblr media
Sorcerer’s Mansion. (Emma and Regina are now stood around the book. Having flicked through it and found nothing on Hades, they look a bit defeated. Regina still continues to flick through.) Emma: "There's no mention of Hades' story anywhere.” Regina: “Why am I not surprised?” Emma: (Notices the ripped pages:) “Yeah, and look. There's some pages that are missing.” Regina: “Back during the first curse, If I’d have known about the storybook, I would have torn my story out of Henry's book so he wouldn't know I was the Evil Queen.” Emma: “Well, if Hades has done the same, we don't stand much chance of finding it.” (Henry, meanwhile, is elsewhere in the mansion searching for magic ink. Eventually he finds some randomly hidden in a lamp shade.) Blanchard Apartment. (Emma, Snow, David and Regina are in the Blanchard apartment. The book is open in front of them.) Snow White: “There's nothing in this entire book about Hades.” Emma: Maybe there's something else in here that can help us. Our Storybook had all kinds of secrets in it.” David: “Well, Henry's kind of the expert on Storybooks. Where is he?” Emma: “He's upstairs going full emo teenager.” Regina: “And doesn't want to talk to anyone right now.” David: “Well, maybe he just doesn't want to talk to his mothers.” Upstairs. (Henry is sitting on the bed when David enters the room.) David: “Hey, there. What's my favorite grandson up to?” Henry: “Nothing. Just thinking.” David: “Mind if I think with you? (Sits on the bed also and sighs:) So... what are we thinking about?” Henry: “I don't want to talk about it.” David: “Okay. Let's talk about me. (Sighing:) I had a... pretty bad day today. I learned that my twin brother resented me his whole life.” Henry: “I thought he grew up a prince.” David: “Guess he wanted something else, what I had... a loving mother.” Henry: “Please don't make this a lesson.” David: “Too late. See, some people would give anything to have a family like yours, Henry. Because, whatever's going on with you, you know you always have someone you can talk to. Or if you just want to stay up here and be a teenager, that's... cool, too.” (Walks back to the stairs.) Henry: “Wait. (David stops:) I need to show you something.” Downstairs. (Henry has now joined the group downstairs, and is telling them about his plans.) Henry: “The Apprentice told me where to find what I needed. The ink. I thought if I used my power as the Author, I could be a hero.” Regina: “Henry, what made you think you needed to do this?” Henry: “At first, it was Cruella. She wanted me to use it to bring her back to life.” Emma: “Why would you help her?” Henry: “To help you. She said you have all this guilt about killing her, and that's when I realized I have all this power and I ignore it. I just live in everyone's shadow. I want to be the hero instead of the one the heroes rescue.” Emma: “I understand that. But that's not the way to do it.” Henry: “I know, and that's why I'm telling you now. I finally understand what the Apprentice meant. I'm gonna write the stories as they are, and I'll start with Hades. I'm gonna use the pen the correct way... To re-create his story.” Snow White: “Hades went to a lot of trouble to keep us from learning his story.” Regina: “Which means we're onto something.” David: “Question is, what is Hades trying to hide from us?” Hades’ Lair. (Hades is in his private chambers. He bends down beside a smokey pool. He magically produces the missing pages. Going through them, he stops on an illustration of Zelena and himself.) Hades: (Sighs:) “Zelena... our secret remains safe.”
The End.
Title: She can Bite, Too. . Summary: Betty is all alone at home, stressing over what on earth is happening to the people she loves. She’s starting to grow anxious, and it’s not until she hears the delicious roar of his bike that her mind settles. . A/N: Thanks to a message I got the other day, I ended up adding some stuff to the universe of Facing Snakes. I know we’re all a little bit shaken by the Serpents now, but they’re nice people in this fic, I swear. I hope you enjoy it, and please, tell me what you think! . . . Her house was awfully silent that night.
All the doors were locked, most of the windows were closed and her pink bedroom was the only room fully illuminated. It was already past 9pm on that Thursday night, and Elizabeth Cooper— as every normal teenager— was laying comfortably on her bed, reviewing her homework while wearing pink, cotton pants and a matching, white shirt for pajamas. Her belly was pressed against the warm blankets, and her legs were swinging above her body, as her green eyes scanned all the equations she had already solved and had already reviewed more times than she could remember. There were papers spread around her sheets, and above them all, her cellphone was resting, with its dark screen just some inches away from her hands and driving her insane with each, passing second.
That peace was simply driving her insane. That lack of news was leaving her feeling uneasy, and at that moment, all she wanted was to grab a coat and run towards the hospital where her parents had taken Polly. Her sister was due at any moment now, and Alice Cooper decided that it would be better if they stayed close to the hospital for when the time finally came. They were all anxious about the twins, and even if Betty wanted to be there next to her sister for when her godchildren came into the world; her parents had made her stay home, for she had classes in the following morning. She tried to protest and she even used her excellent arguments, but in the end, nothing she said was able to change her mother’s final decision.
And then, she was left behind in that perfect house, with her perfect life as she remained clueless about whatever could be happening to Polly. It was frustrating and really hard to swallow, especially because she had no one by her side to keep her from overthinking. Jughead wasn’t answering her calls— worrying her even more—, Kevin was busy with his online dates and Archie was finally having a family dinner with Veronica and her parents; leaving her all alone with her loud, stubborn thoughts.
The blonde finally turned around so her eyes were now looking at the celling. She sighed, bringing Caramel close to her chest in a tight hug.
Why couldn’t she just forget about everything and go to sleep?
Why couldn’t her mind just give up on trying to make her go after the people she loves?
“ Ugh!” She brought her pillow to cover her face in pure annoyance, and she closed her eyes in order to ignore the whole, peaceful world surrounding her. Betty was biting her lower lip, and at that moment, all she wanted was to shut down her own thoughts, even if for that she would have to pick up her earphones and turn on the loudest songs she knows.
The blonde would do anything to get rid of her inner voice.
And thanks to their impeccable connection, he knew exactly how to do it without damaging her senses.
When Betty had finally made up her mind about turning on some music, the most amazing and exciting roar invaded her ears. Her eyes widened at the sound, immediately sitting up and turning to face her window as to follow the path that would lead her to another great adventure. Her heart was beating faster, and as the engine roar of his bike filled her room, the blonde could feel shivers running down her spine.
Music to her ears, she thought, smirking.
The girl didn’t think twice before jumping from her bed, letting a mess of papers fall to the ground. She got rid of the blinders that were preventing her eyes from fully seeing what was happening on the street, and it didn’t take long before her eyes saw him, wearing his leather jacket, with his crown shaped beanie on his head as he leaned against his vehicle, trying to copy one of James Dean’s many poses he knew she loved. An excited chuckle escaped her lips, and before she knew it, their eyes finally met and he offered her a smirk in return.
Oh, Jughead Jones…
“ You know…” She started, excitement lingering over her tongue. “ If you show up like this when the babies are born, you better make sure this thing will drive you away from here before my mom gets to the front door.”
“ Oh, don’t worry. I’ve had this amazing girl fixing it for me, so I’m sure not even Alice Cooper will be able to catch me.” He smirked once more, trying to suppress how happy he was to see her.
“ Good to know… The person who helped you, I bet she knew exactly what you’d be facing, right?” Betty smiled now, her teeth slowly biting her lower lip.
“ You have no idea…” Both of them kept smiling at each other for a while, feeling a soft, autumn breeze brushing their faces. After what felt like hours, then, he was the first to make a move, taking some steps away from his bike, exposing not only one, but two, crown-marked helmets and she didn’t need her Nancy Drew abilities to understand what he was about to offer her. “So… Since the witch isn’t there, what do you think about coming down, Rappunzel?”
“ Oh, so now we’re changing the plot?”
“ We’re just adapting it, come on. Just pretend we’re shooting a remake.”
“ But you hate remakes, Jug, remember?”
“ I know… But there’s just this actress…” He smirked, once more, placing both of his hands inside his pockets. " I could honestly go watch a cliché, romantic comedy if she was casted.”
Her eyes started to shine due to his soft words, and watching him just some meters away from her was enough to make all the stress disappear from her body. Betty was leaning against her window frame, with the happiest of the smiles taking over her face. After years of looking through that window towards a certain red head, the blonde now knew that nothing that could’ve happened between them would’ve been so amazing and pure as what was happening with the boy standing on her own, green yard.
With him, she found herself the happiness she didn’t think she deserved.
And after so long, she was tired of running away from that.
“ I’ll be down in a minute.” The blonde said, closing her window and bouncing her ponytail around her room. She made sure to put on some boots and a coat, for they were clearly going out for a ride, and she sprinkled some perfume on her neck. The lights were soon off, and it was as if her heart started to beat faster with each step she took towards her raven haired biker. Betty, then, unlocked the garage door— since her mother had locked the front door and taken the key with her— and was greeted by her boyfriend standing on her driveway, with both of his hands now swinging around in a nervous movement. A smile crossed his lips as soon as he saw her, and at that moment, she felt like time could stop.
“ Hey, you…”
“ Hi, stranger.” She smiled, walking towards him, and soon, their lips were touching in a chaste, welcoming kiss. He smiled against that touch, and it was as if the night turned colder when they finally parted.
“ So…” He started, looking into her green eyes as their foreheads were inches apart. His fingers had somehow managed to find hers, and for the first time, she was glad he didn’t wear gloves to ride his bike. “ How are you? I forgot my phone at the White Wyrm earlier today and I just couldn’t text you, sorry.”
“ It’s okay, you’re here now.” She whispered, her cheeks turning redder. “ I called you a couple of times just to check on you, that’s all. No one died while your phone was drinking some beer.”
A sly smirk crossed his lips, his eyes drifting from hers to their fingers, as they grazed each other. “ Glad to hear that, but… Why are you all alone? Did something happen?”
“ Don’t worry about it… My parents took Polly to the hospital. My mom wanted her to be near the doctors since the babies can come anytime now.”
“ And you stayed because…?”
“ Because Alice Cooper thought my morning classes are more important than my sister and the twins.”
“ Oh, I get it… Because I’m sure there must be something wrong with your homework, even after you reviewed it more than 3 times.” Sarcasm dripped from his tongue, and he saw the way her lips slightly curled up at his words. Even if most people wouldn’t have noticed, Jughead could see how not being there with her sister was affecting his girlfriend. Betty still doesn't feel safe whenever her parents leave the house with Polly, and even now her insecurities were there, troubling her thoughts and adding a heavy weight on her shoulders.
Apparently, she did need a ride to calm her mind.
“ So, uhm… What were you doing at the White Wrym this morning? Shouldn’t you have been at school?” Betty asked, concern still present in her words.
“ I was. I just had to— uh— Sweet Pea asked me for a ride since his bike broke, and that jerk ended up taking my phone with him.”
“ What?” She lifted an eyebrow, looking confused and quite curious. “ Didn’t you say you forgot it at the bar?”
“ I-I did… I mean, I know it’s there, but I wasn’t the one who left it there, you know? I guess I just miss-spoke the words.”
“… okay, I guess…”
“ So, what do you say about going there with me so I can take my phone back?” He started, placing his hands on her hips, so to make sure she wouldn’t move. “ Then we can come back and we can watch some movies…  I’ll even stay with you the whole night and take you to school tomorrow, what do you think?”
“ Well…” She continued, her voice low as a whisper, and soon her hands found their way to wrap around his neck. “ Are you ready to wake up earlier just to take me to Riverdale’s most prestigious school?”
“ Believe me, it will be worth it. Besides, I bet your beloved principal will love to have me around."
“ In this case, your idea does sound like a plan, Jughead Jones.”
His smiling lips pressed against hers once more before he finally turned to walk towards his bike. Though she was really thankful for his company, it was clear that he was hiding something from her— and of course she wanted to know what. Jughead Jones is not a stutterer, and whenever he starts mixing his words, Betty knows he’s up to something. It may be something bad related to his day at South Side High, but judging by how he didn’t seem physically bothered by any possible wound, and since his humor didn’t seem to have changed, the blonde figured it was not something she should worry about.
Though that didn’t mean she wouldn’t try to figure things out. She is Elizabeth Cooper, after all.
It took her a couple of seconds to start moving, but Betty soon found herself hopping on the back of his bike. She was wearing her own helmet, and by the time he started the engine, her arms were already wrapped around his waist, pressing her chest against him. The vibrations climbed through her body, eliciting an adrenaline discharge into her veins that made her heart beat even faster, to the point she was sure he could feel it pounding against his back.
The wind was now brushing against their faces, and being so close to the asphalt made her feel alive. She hugged him even closer, his inebriating scent filling her nostrils and if she could see his face, her eyes would see the proud smirk displayed on his face. He loved taking her for a ride with him, and she loved the feeling of adventure that would take over her whenever they were out through the streets of Riverdale.
It made them feel free. It made them feel powerful and invincible. And that was exactly what she needed that night.
Unfortunately, the ride to the bar was quite fast since Riverdale was quite a small town. He parked his bike among so many others, and after hanging the helmets, both of them walked together towards the front doors of the White Wyrm. Even if it was still Thursday, the place was lit, with live music and many people having fun in their own way, creating an excited atmosphere that would certainly help Betty forget a bit of that chaos that had previously taken over her mind. Some people were just drinking, others were playing cards and there were those just waiting in the corner, watching as another night at the bar went by.
“ It’s quite crowded tonight, isn’t it?” Betty almost screamed due to the noise, and consequently, she got closer to her boyfriend. He watched as her small form stood just some inches away from him in a secure distance, and he couldn’t help but smile at the adorable scene. Soon, he closed the distance between them, holding her hand in his and giving it a light squeeze.
“ Don’t get lost, okay?” Jughead whispered in her ear, making her blush as his voice teased her ears.
“ I won’t.” She squeezed back, following him as he led them through the crowd of Serpents. If her mother saw her at that moment, she would be grounded for the rest of her life, and never again would she do as much as wear a sleeveless shirt. Betty was disobeying so many rules she had lost count, and she couldn’t be any happier.
Among that mess of people, the Cooper girl couldn’t help but spot some familiar faces. For she had spent quite some time herself at that bar, fixing bikes and waiting for Jughead; it was inevitable that she recognized some of the guys. She had nothing against them, no. They’ve never done anything to disrespect her in all those months her boyfriend had become a Serpent, and if anything, they have always been quite nice, telling her stories about the old Riverdale and about the many injustices that happened to them. Those stories made her mad, and they all sympathized with the way she learned to swear whenever her fighting spirit got hit.
Betty Cooper is a cool girl. And not in a billion years any of those bearded snakes would ever have a reason to bite that pretty, smooth skin of hers.
In fact, that night would show her the exact opposite.
After finally crossing that sea of people, Jughead and Betty finally managed to reach the place where Sweet Pea was. The tall boy had his elbow resting against the wooden bar, holding a bottle of beer with his free hand. There was a smug smirk on his face as he chatted with another Serpent kid, and as soon as his eyes acknowledged them, the blonde girl couldn’t help but get intrigued. His attention drifted from her boyfriend to her and back to Jughead, and the look on his face made her feel like he was expecting her to be there.
Normally, that boy would just ignore her presence or make jokes about how her boyfriend was a part of them, but that day, Sweet Pea did none of that. In fact, he even seemed happy to see her there.
Something was definitely wrong. And by the look on Jughead’s face, he knew exactly what.
“ Jones. So you finally arrived… And you’ve brought your girl.”
“ Yeah. Just came for my phone, dude. You forgot to give it back to me.”
“ Oh, indeed. I have it with me.” He said, smirking again. “ But why don’t you drink something with us? You’re already here, and I’m sure blondie here isn’t afraid of all these Serpents. In fact, she spends more time with us than you do.”
“ For all we know, Sweet Pea, if you’ve managed to become a Serpent, Betty could, too, since they like her a lot more than they like you.” Jughead smirked back, and from the corner of his eyes, he could see the way her lips turned up in excitement. Even if the girl herself didn’t think there was a reason to counter Sweet Pea’s words, she couldn’t help but feel amused at her boyfriend’s fast answer.
It felt good, indeed.
But there was no reason to create any weird mood between them, no. That night they all wanted to have fun. And she would make sure that nothing ruined that.
“ Come on, boys.Truth be told, I would be a better Serpent than both of you, but lucky for you, I don’t have a jacket.”
“ Oh, but we can fix that.”
A hoarse, strong voice came from behind her, startling her. Green eyes widened, and before she could even turn around to face whoever owned such powerful voice, Betty felt a strong hand rest on her shoulder. There was still a confused expression taking over her face, but as soon as she saw the smirk on Jughead’s face, she allowed herself to calm down. She finally turned to see the man standing next to her, and a gleeful smile took over her lips as soon as she recognized the one hiding behind that beard.
“ Hey, Nik! Long time no see! How’s the family?”
“ Hey, Betty. They’re fine. Sarah asked me to thank you for that math book you gave her. She already knows more about numbers than I do.”
“ Oh, that is so great to hear! Tell her I said Hi.”
“ Sure will.”
“ How’s it going, Cooper?” Another man— a younger one— approached them and stood next to the raven haired boys. “ Are you already ready to dump this kid you call boyfriend?”
“ In your dreams, uncle Luke.” Jughead said, crossing his arms in front of his chest.
A chuckle escaped Betty’s lips, and even if she wanted to tell them she would never even consider that idea, she knew that would inflate her boyfriend’s ego to unimaginable levels. Hearing her words would certainly make him feel really happy. And she wouldn’t make things so easy for him. “ It’s all good, Luke. I still gotta teach a lot of things to this kid, so I guess I can’t just leave him, you know?” She looked into his gray-ish, blue eyes and slowly bit her lower lip, making Jughead smile softly at her comment.
Everyone around them seemed to share that same, simple happiness, and at that moment, it didn’t matter who they were or from which side of that small town they came from. No prejudices were standing in the way, and no hatred lingered in the air of that crowded bar. All those people were having fun, enjoying the company and the words of a little girl who— at first sight— had nothing to do with those bikers and their long beards.
They were just having fun like people should be allowed to, and at that moment— more than ever— Betty was extremely happy to be at the White Wrym with her boyfriend.
Everything was just great.
And it was about to get even better.
“ Maybe you should teach him how to be a real Serpent, then.” Luke said, with a mocking tone.
“ I would, but as I’ve said, I can’t do it since I don’t have a—“
“ A jacket?” Another strong, familiar voice cut through hers, and her eyes widened as soon as she turned around to see FP standing next to other Serpents. There was a soft smile playing on his lips— one much like the ones Jughead gives her whenever he’s proud of her— and in his hand, a leather jacket with a serpent stamped on its back. The jacket seemed smaller than the one her boyfriend usually wears, and it didn’t take long before her future father in law motioned the fabric towards her. “ What do you say now, Betty Cooper?”
There was suddenly a gap between her lips, and it took Betty some good thirty seconds to finally connect all the dots. That jacket was hers. They had made it for her, and they wanted her to be a part of the gang. The Serpents wanted her to be a part of the group, and at that moment, all she could do was look at her boyfriend, as if to ask him if that was some kind of joke.
And based on the soft look he gave her, Betty knew none of those men were trying to trick her.
They really wanted Elizabeth Cooper to be a South Side Serpent.
“ Jug… FP, I-I… I don’t know what to say.”
“ Just say whatever is on your mind, Betty.” Jughead said, placing a hand on her lower back. Their eyes met, and as soon as her teeth released her lower lip, the blonde allowed a deep sigh to empty her lungs.
“ Oh, crap.” She said, instinctively, and drawing a wave of laughter from everyone around her.
“ Well, she’s already starting to swear.” Sweet Pea said, placing a hand on his hip. “That, or she’s really mad at us."
“ Oh, you’ve never seen her mad, believe me.” Jughead stated, giggling along the gang.
“ Tch, let the girl talk, you two.” FP interrupted, and all the attentions returned to the Cooper girl. “ Look, you don’t have to accept it if you don’t want it, kid. We’re just trying to welcome you to—“
“ I want it.” She finally said, a smile slowly making its way towards her face. She looked at FP, first, then to all the others surrounding her until her green eyes landed on Jughead’s. “ I want to be a part of this world… I want to be a Serpent.”
A tender smile graced the Jones boy’s lips, and that was enough to tell her he had understood the meaning behind her words. Betty wanted to be a part of that, not only because she believed she could understand their point of view on what happened in Riverdale, but mostly because that would mean she could be closer to Jughead. She could be a part of that new reality he had started living a couple of months before, and if that would bring them closer, somehow, than it was already worth it.
For him, she would do anything. And that included wearing a leather jacket 24/7.
“ Then, this is yours.” FP said, handing her the jacket. Soft fingers brushed the tough leather, and after she looked at it for a couple of moments, Betty swung the fabric around her shoulders, inserting her arms inside it and allowing it to embrace her small body. It was a heavy fabric, and its quality was doubtlessly great, but none of that matter as she realized that the biggest symbol of the Serpents adorned her back.
It fit like a glove, indeed. And as she adjusted it on her, she couldn’t hold back the smile that took over her lips.
Now she could finally understand how he felt that night.
And— oh, it felt too, damn good.
“ Let’s welcome our new Serpent, everyone. Drinks on me!” FP said, cheerfully, as he walked away with the rest of the Serpents. It was a night of celebration, even if he wasn’t going to drink anything other than water, and just like Betty, FP was happy for his son.
His boy had certainly found the one, for sure.
And as a father, he couldn’t be any happier.
After the announcement, many were the men who came to congratulate Betty and to tap her on the shoulders, and never before had she actually felt so supported by a large group of people. They liked her, they really did and not only because she was the girlfriend of the FP Jones’ son. They liked her because she actually treated them like real people, unlike most of the people from her side of the town.
They like her for who she is.
But among them, only one loves her for that.
She could barely feel the taps on her back as she was basically carried through the sea of people, but she certainly felt his warm hand holding hers. Her eyes immediately locked with his, and she allowed him to drag her away from all that mess. They stumbled back towards the bar, and Jughead made sure to stand in front of her, in order to block that wave of people who still wanted to congratulate her for earning her spot among them.
Even if she wanted to celebrate with all of them, Betty would be lying if she said she didn’t  want to be alone with him at that moment.
“ Well, it’s official.” He started, his eyes scanning her from head to toe as a smile was held on his lips. “ You are a part of a biker’s gang from the South Side, Elizabeth Cooper. You better enjoy it until your mom finds out.”
“Oh, in that case, you better enjoy your life, too, Jughead Jones.” She smirked, not looking away from his eyes. “ Because she won’t stop with me. Her journey in search of blood will certainly reach you and your father.”
“ Shit, you’re right.” He chuckled. “Well, but I can say I had a good life.”
“ Yeah… Me too.” She smiled tenderly at him, as she watched his eyes drifting towards her lips. She pulled him closer, then, and it didn’t take long before their lips connected, the leather in their jackets brushing against one another. It was a pure, delicate kiss that made the butterflies in their stomach fly around. They were smiling throughout the kiss, and as soon as they broke the free, she watched as his fingers were slowly playing with the hem of her new piece of clothing.
There were times when they had shared moments of delicacy before, but never like that one. Accepting that jacket meant a lot for that boy who once lost everything simply for choosing to be who he was. It told him that, no matter what, she would be there, by his side to love him and support him.
It told him someone cared. It told him that even if life made choices for him, there would still be people by his side.
It told him he was loved— truly loved.
And as he watched the perfectly imperfect girl next door wrapped in leather for him, that was exactly how Jughead Jones felt.
“ Betty…”
“What is it, Juggie?”
“ Thank you… For, you know… For everything. Especially for tagging along, even if you probably knew something was up.”
“ Well, you know me… I had my suspicions.”
“ Of course you had, Nancy Drew.”
Awakening of the death: Chapter #17
Jack spent the next few days recuperating his body after the bullet was removed. While Hellen changed and cleaned his wound, he’d analyzed it, checking to see how the stitches were holding up. He was secretly amazed on how well decent the work was. That was compared to Hellen’s cooking.
Usually, Jack would be cooking the meals for the two of them. Since he was out of commission, Hellen had been feeding him this ham and bean soup that would seem to make a professional chief wanting to hang himself for tasting it. The beans seemed to be half cooked and the broth way to salty; however, Jack was too hungry to care, despite Hellen’s sarcasms to her own cooking. She would also help him get onto his feet to move around and provide some new books from the small library down the hallway; yet Jack was still drawn to the “Adventures of Tom Sawyer” book. One evening, they had a conversation about Mr. Twain’s writing. Jack was asking questions about the landscape of eastern Missouri. Hellen would only give a brief statement about the landscape and the mighty Mississippi river. Jack was even surprised to know that Injun Joe is a real individual living in Hannibal; yet his only statement to Twain after reading the book was that he will outlive him.
Jack even admitted to Hellen that master assassins, Evie Frye and her husband, Henry Green worked alongside Twain and a Pinkerton officer he’d hired from New York in order to retrieve missing pieces of a manuscript known as the Voynich Manuscript from a templar agent that assassinated an associate of Twain’s.
“Why did Twain had to hire a Pinkerton of all things.” Hellen complained with a snark.
“He didn’t...”
“They do nothing but barge their asres where they don’t belong and throw in rational actions in order to draw the so called “bad guys” out.” Hellen spat on the wooden floor by her boot. She’d obviously had a history with the Pinkertons.
Hellen looked at Jack, blushed as she realized he wasn’t sure of Hellen’s actions. “Sorry. It’s just...well...the Pinkertons and I never really...they’d done a lot of things to the James family, the folks that raised me during the war when my pa served, they’d got caught up in a raid. You’d probably don't want to know.”
“I do.” Jack quickly stated, to which Hellen was caught off guard. “Obviously they meant a lot to you. Especially this Jesse that you’d often mentioned. Why was he so important to you? Were you...”
Hellen blink. Then she bent down and laughed he sides off. “You think...that one of the most famous outlaws in this nation and I were...” Tears escaped her eyes as Hellen continued to roll down. “Sweet holy moss thats robbing the crib.”
“What the Hell are you talking about Hellen?” Jack asked, unsure of what madwoman she was becoming before his eyes.
Hellen caught a breath as she answered his question. “You really must of been under a rock or London never wrote much on America’s new legends, I’m talking about the famous of Jesse James. You know, the infamous outlaw. With his brother Frank and an entire gang with the Youngs. Their farm was close to ours. And you think that he and I were...” Hellen began to laugh again. “Now thats robbing the crib, pa didn’t even care about him too much, well who was to blame Jesse was a formal confederate soldier and gorilla fighter.”
 “How does it connect to the Pinkertons?” Jack asked, to which Hellen’s laugh ceased, making the air cold in the air.
Hellen took a breath and looked at Jack. “January 26th, ‘74. I’ll never forget that  night. My pa and I were just sitting in the living area by the stove and fireplace, reading some book or something. I don’t even remembered the title. But I do remember the loud booming sound that caused my pa and I’s heads to look up. He saw smoke and flames licking from a distance. When my pa figured out that the smoke came from the James home, he and I rode over to see what happened. I’ll never forget the sight. My pa ran into the building to see what happened and put out the small fire; yet...” Hellen sniffed and rubbed her eyes. “Zerelda, the mother of the brothers and the woman who raised me when pa was fighting...She was bleeding something fierce. Turned out the pinker tons made a homemade explosive to scare them out. Little Archie believed the bomb was a log, so he threw it into the fire, it exploded, killing him instantly and wounding Zerelda while she tried shielding him from the shrapnel. God...” Hellen choked a breath as trying not to cry.
Jack placed a hand on her shoulders and rubbed them in an attempt to comfort her.
Hellen breathed deeply as she continued. “My pa found out that the Pinkertons were commissioned by the officials of the railroad who wanted the brothers: dead or alive. They’d analyzed the house for hell knows how long. The men they thought were the brothers that entered into the James home the night before, turned out they never realized that it was my pa and Collin Anderson coming by to check on them after being on a mission. I’d never known about it till after my pa’s death. But how could he had known that his thirteen year old daughter, who was raised with the Samuel children, and was close to Archie, only to see the body of a mangled nine year old boy. Damn those Pinkertons! They’d snuffed the life of a boy who was like a little brother to me! And now Zerelda has a handicap for the rest of her days.”
Hellen again turned her face away, trying to hide her tears. Jack again rubbed her shoulder and pulled her in gently. “You thought of Archie after I was shot.”
Hellen turned her head to give a look that answered yes.
“And...” Jack hesitated, thinking if this was the right question to ask.” Your pa.”
Hellen gripped his hand tight. “I will not allow anyone to die under my watch, even to my last breath.”
After Hellen took a moment, as she reflected back on Jack’s story of Twain and the manuscript.
“Voynich manuscript? Why does that sound so familiar?” Hellen rubbed her forehead with her two fingers. The names...Greeley...Greyling...why do they...” Hellen groaned in frustration. “I remember my pa mentioning those names once. Something about missing key facts relating to a location. Something about, when after my pa served, he would keep the “pages” in several locations. One of them was to Greeley’s position.” Hellen raised her brows. “We need some of our members to do a little digging”
By the time Jack was strong enough to be back in the field, Hellen and her sources have been looking through the old files and records of where Greeley would keep old documents for the paper. One of the sources heard that there was a box full of files that seemed like a foreign language, and had drawings and markings the seemed to be inspired by a Gutenberg bible. So Jack and Hellen, along with Hans and a few members traveled to a warehouse near Queens to an old warehouse. But before they could enter into the warehouse, Hellen stopped Jack and quietly pointed up to the next roof.
“Looks like someone else has the same idea as us.” Hans commented, preparing his .38.
“Perhaps this is part of their turf. But they seemed to be waiting for us.” Hellen looked both directions to see an all clean. “So Jack and I will be...”
“No.” Jack said, placing an arm across her to block her way.
“Excuse me?” Hellen asked, agitated.
“I will be going in, it seemed they want us all in that building. Only one person is enough to go in. I’ll find the files.”
Jack was making his way in, taking Hellen’s pistol. Her face grew red. She marched over to hi as she grabbed his arm. “It’s one thing to go in there alone, another thing to tell me to stay put; but when you take a woman’s  pistol, your asking for hell from me Jackass. Now unless you give that back, I’m going with you whatever you like it or not!
Jack then turned, and grabbed Hellen’s upper arms, looked intensely into her eyes.
“Hellen, I hope you can forgive me for this.” Before Hellen could protest or ask a question, Jack pulled her head close to his as his lips pressed upon hers. Hellen’s eyes were widened with surprise; she couldn’t think of a simple action to reply; yet when the kiss continued, she closed her eyes and melted into the kiss as she returned it.
Jack slid his hand down taking in the pleasure of Hellen’s taste; yet his mind focused on the position his two fingers needed at the two nerves at the base of Hellen’s skull. He placed his thumb and index at the nerves where he needed them to be, he’s lightly pressed upon the nerves, and he felt Hellen as breath as they parted, her body going limp in his arms. Jack caught her in his arms and lifted her like a bride.
He turned to see a couple of the members staring at him with surprise. Jack walked to one of the taller members and handed Hellen’s body to him. “Take her back home, she’ll be up in a few hours.”
Before Jack could allow a reply from the member, Jack turned on his heels and ran into the building, the thought he had to push aside of his head was the fact that he’d just kissed Hellen Patterson in order to knock her out to keep her out of danger. Jack would probably have hell to pay for that; yet in his secret depths, he liked it, and even for his first kiss, he could tell that Hellen kissed him back.
Jack searched through the rooms, searching for anything that can indicate a container of files. After over fifteen minutes of searching, Jack finally found a box contained in a small room. He knelt down, opened the chest and found a bundle of old parchments, tied with a ribbon. He lifted them gently, seeing the strange markings on the edges, and then tugged them into his coat.
By the time Jack got us, he heard the sound of a gun hammer being pulled back. “Looking for something?” A french voice asked.
Jack took a breath and turned to shove the gun away and stab the man in the neck. More men came over, crying out, “Jacque, you got the documents? This place is going to blow any minute now!”
Jack cursed and made his way out. He ran through the halls, encountering three other men along the hallway. Jack had put up a fight as he stabbed two of the men. Another man bigger then jack grabbed his hand holding it away. Before the man can mock Jack, the Lad reached with his free hand for the .38 and shot in square in the mans eyes. Jacks ears rang for a moment. He shook it off, just as the sound of an explosion came from below. Jack being close to the roof, rand to a window close by ran through, and took a leap of faith, landing in another empty room in the next building. Jack checked to see if he was still sound. When he saw that no bones were broken, Jack looked to see the building where he was in flames. Jack checked to see the documents still secured.
“Now that one fire was prevented, and a pistol is fired, you better to handle the one at home Jack.” Jack paused for a moment, realizing that he just said the word
Home.
jughead let each hit to his body happen. they stung, but they were a beautiful reminder of the boy he was leaving behind. betty didn’t want him anymore and that was a fact he couldn’t hide behind. help me, he’d scream out, help me understand. but his words were falling on deaf ears. she didn’t want to hear it anymore and he was tired of screaming. he was always screaming, wasn’t he? in some way. so now he sat here at the small table of the trailer with toni, this time it was her tending to his wounds. the countless hits that made him a serpent, he supposed, but it was okay, that was going to be okay. he was apart of them now.
❛ take me back to the night we met, ❜ he said quietly, looking down at sore knuckles. when they’d met the first time at southside high, when he’d been exposed and vulnerable without the safety of his hat. did any of that matter here, on this side of town? she knew who he was inside and out. it was easier back then, back when he could be anything. it would never fool her. she knew, she saw. and he, trying with wobbling steps, was going to sink into this life like he had never left it behind.
if you ever want to be in love - james baysaw you today after so much time, felt just like it used to betalking for hours ‘bout a different life, surrounded us in memorieswe were close never close enough, where are we now?‘cause if it’s torn we can stitch it up, don’t rule it outoh no, I’ll come around if you ever want to be in loveI’m not waiting, but I’m willing if you call me upIf you ever want to be in loveI’ll come around
a smile pulled on his lips as toni met him at the red & black. this had become their routine, something he had gotten used to, with scars ( literal and figurative ) healed up. it had been weeks after his mugging from the ghoulies. and when toni met betty. both of them worried that his feelings for betty were going to get in the way of everything he was doing here on the southside. maybe, he said, maybe they would, but it wasn’t. hadn’t. not yet, at least, not with toni’s understanding and ever-present nature. she stuck by him, she never gave up.
❛ ‘cause if it’s torn we can stitch it up, don’t rule it out, ❜ he said, taking ahold of the banner and giving it a sharp tug. it was the old, dusty relic of the red & black when mr. phillips had it running smoothly. a reminder of days when passion ran the southside students, not jingle jangle or gangs. he wanted to start fresh, to start knew. let it be something that both he and toni could revive. together. not one sided, not his voice and her story ( as it had been with betty ). but theirs.
the boy leaned against the wooden posts of the stairs to his trailer, feeling his weight shift them, the entire stairway creaking. jug sighed, sitting up straight now. rather what he thought was straight given the amount of beer he had drunk. it was easy to get inebriated. now he understood his dad, finally - alright, low blow, but there was no denying the childhood. jug lifted the bottle so he could try to get more beer down in his system but he slipped, rather his elbow did off of the stair and he let his back thunk into the stair. ouch.
❛ i c - ca-an’t s…. st- sto-op, i c- i can’t stop think-thinkin’ a.. ‘bout you…. ❜ came his drunk voice into the phone. he thought he was talking to betty. he thought that he had pressed the right contact on his phone but who knew with his shaking thumb, his blurry eyes, his terrible coordination. didn’t know who he was talking but they’d know by the tone of his voice and the slur of his words that he was not in a good place.
heathen - colouringlet me offwe can all mistake, all mistake a heartIt’s hard enoughoh, I’m tripping up, I’m tripping in the darkso you’re a heathen, you don’t believe in loveam I beaten, if I believe in us?
jug glared down at the ground as frustration bubbled away inside of him. no, no way was he going to just give up on betty. not like this. not when archie was walking away, not when there was a group of serpents standing behind him waiting. jug couldn’t look at them right now - in fact he ignored them, their laughs, and he looked through the crowd for toni’s eyes. there was something about her that grounded him and made these things make sense.
❛ so you’re a heathen? you don’t believe in love? ❜ he shouted, not at her but with her, like he was yelling at himself for having considered giving up. was that his life now, the life of loveless? a man who let things go - patient, understanding? could he be that guy? jug stepped back from the group with a noticeable shake in his hands, all the while his gaze never leaving toni.
clinking glasses together, here was jug in the middle of the whyte wyrm accepting a little handy help from toni topaz. they’d accepted the truth; jug needed some life put back into his bones. he needed to be tossed out to sea without a map so he could find his way home. forcibly swim through the waves and learn something along the way.
❛ come on, let’s find a compromise, ❜ came his voice over the beat of the music, yelling up and over it, grinning at her. they were back and forth on how jughead was going to really initiate himself into the serpents. he wasn’t sure how but he wanted it to be calculated, careful, considered. she, on the other hand, lived in the center of it all. she loved the heat, the wildness, the energy. fine, then, they’d find some line between the two.
fingers finding her own, he would lift her hand up to his mouth and he’d kiss it. gentle, slow, like he really, genuinely meant it. jug looked at her in the same way he had looked at her over the weeks of knowing her; sad, eager, happy. a mix of feelings he’d never had all at once, but a feeling he could get used to. here on his couch was their own time to be whoever they wanted. for the first time in his life, jughead wanted to be forsythe.
❛ i’ve looked for love in every stranger, ❜ he breathed, the confession coming sweet and honest. everyone on the northside was a stranger, weren’t they? at the heart of it no one really knew him. not even archie, the boy whose address he used to be a student at riverdale high. especially not betty, even though he had loved her, it had come at the cost of being a person he would never be. jughead had to accept his life and toni, toni fuckign topaz, had been right here the whole time. forsythe pendleton jones the third, she’d said.
jug wanted to be remembered. he wanted his hands to be burned in against her skin, to have her waking up in the middle of the night stammering for something he’d made her feel. jug kissed her this time - for the second time - with determination. instead of at the table like they’d done the other evening, this time they were on his couch. a movie played in the background forgotten and unwanted. it was an excuse to get close, right?
❛ i can make your body tremble if you want to, ❜ he whispered, his fingers holding her chin gentle. blue eyes looked at her dark ones, a tug of a smirk on his lips. a confident man watched her without leaning in for a kiss but instead waiting, watching, wanting to see her respond. it was all in the moment, wasn’t it? not hiding and certainly not being ashamed of the things he wanted.
slow and steady - of mice and menmy dear old friend, take me for a spintwo wolves in the dark, running in the windI’m letting go, but I’ve never felt betterpassing by all the monsters in my headI move slow and steady but I feel like a waterfallyeah, I move slow and steady past the ones that I used to know
with toni topaz tight around his middle he drove, gunning his motorbike, letting the sound drown out everything around them. he would grin as the wind rushed past but nothing made him shiver, nothing but knowing the girl he liked was so close. she kept his back warm as they drove around the winding road. his favorite one to drive up in the hills where there was no one around. just them and nature, something beautiful to hold onto. a moment to make them feel alive.
❛ I’M LETTING GO ! ❜ he would shout, the sound getting lost but maybe she heard him, and maybe she could hear the sweet laugh that followed it. now he was really being who he was meant to be. he was letting go of all the worries, the heartache, the shadows and the self-doubt that kept him back before. it was no longer about living alone because he wanted to be. it was about finding family because he deserved to belong.
river - leon bridgesbeen traveling these wide roads for so longmy heart’s been far from you - ten-thousand miles goneI wanna come near and give ya, every part of mebut there’s blood on my hands and my lips aren’t clean
he stood with the weight of what had happened all around him, proof of it on every street corner and every blade of grass. jug had finally been in his first fight, one that he needed to be apart of, for the serpents and for his vow. it was about protection. he understood now. sweetpea had drilled it into his head that they fought to protect and for no other reason. unprovoked the serpents would sit back and be whoever they wanted, never disturbing no one.
❛ … but there’s blood on my hands, and my lips aren’t clean, ❜ he would choke out at toni, standing in front of her hours after the fight. he knew the things he’d said dirtied his moral mouth, the one that he swore he would keep pristine. his hands were literally bloodied up now, bruised, knuckles cracked. he stood like a man who had a lot to regret as though he owed it to toni to be better.
while we’re young - jhene aikobaby while we’re young I think we should do something crazylike say “Fuck everyone" and just run away from the daily routineyeah, you know what I meanI’m tellin’ everybody you’re mine and I like itand I really hope you don’t mind, I can’t fight itno, you know I cannot hide it 'cause I am so excitedthat I finally decided on you
she was tiny and light, and jug rushed around the trailer with her secure, piggy-backing. their laughter was the music the southside needed, their childlike wonder for love the spark the southside needed. it was important, these two together. serpent love - they’d die for each other, and that was the highest bid for anyone’s heart one could make. an honor jughead had never expected to be put his way but it was in those pink strands, those dark eyes, that smile. toni was, and probably would be, the most important thing in his life.
❛  …. and i really hope you don’t mind, i can’t fight it, ❜ jug said to her later when they were laying on the floor of his trailer, the middle of his living room cleared out. they’d made the excuse for dancing because he didn’t know how and apparently she was a championship dancer. well, championship dancer, sure. now he had her tucked secure in his arms with his hand rubbing her side. closeness and affection, things he’d never really imagined himself doing but - hey, he’d never felt anything like this for anyone before. anyone.
You promised your mom you’d be back after the movies, but not before you grilled you about the details. Where are you going? Twilight Drive-In. Who are you going with? Jughead, a boy from school (at least you assumed). Who names their kids Jughead? Some pretty chill people. What movie are you watching? Rebel Without A Cause. I love James Dean, maybe I should go? No, absolutely not.
You gave her one last kiss before whining that you had a movie to catch. Not to mention, you had to get there and find a good spot for the movie. You pulled up, paid your five dollars, and found yourself a spot near the front.
You locked up the 67’ mustang convertible and meandered about. It was a shame about them tearing this place down. You always enjoyed a good drive in.
Stepping under the awning of the concession stand, you propped up on the metal counter. “Hi, can I get a large popcorn and a cherry cola, please?” You laid out a five but the kid told you the concessions were being paid through the ticket sales tonight.
You nodded and tucked the five in your jacket pocket. The white screen sparked to life. A short drive in commercial started rolling. Dancing popcorn, smiling fountain drinks, and some raisinettes jumping around, nothing put a smile on your face faster.
“I’d pay to see that a thousand more times.”
A smile spread wide over your face; you folded your lower lip in, your teeth gently biting down.
“Dancing popcorn really gets me going too.” You turned your attention to Jughead, who had his eyes trained on you.
“That’s gonna be hard to emulate.” He teased. He grabbed the popcorn from the ledge and handed you the cola.
You pumped the straw dispenser and took two bendy straws. You took a sip from the smaller one and held it up to Jug’s mouth. He happily took the taller one and took a drink.
“Aren’t you the saint of generosity?”
You laughed,” I’m nothing, if not giving.”
He nodded,” Oh yeah,” He snarked,” so generous you made me work for your name.”
You nudged him with your shoulder and popped some popcorn in your mouth.
You unlocked the car,” Well, this is it.”
“Who are you?” He studied your vehicle no doubt noting the make and model. A s
You blushed,” It’s my dad’s. He bought it right out of high school. I promise, it’s not mine.”
You were vexed that you felt so awkward while he was so composed and unapologetic. He was wearing his serpent jacket again which extenuated that dastardly smirk on his lips. The soft engraving of laugh lines made him soft and real.
“You going to watch the movie or stare at me the whole night?”
“Sorry, I was trying figure out if I was Grease or not. This whole situation seems a bit familiar.” You looked around.
“What are you looking for?” He questioned with a half-smile.
“Rizzo and Kenickie. They’ve got to be around here somewhere.” He pulled you back down by the hem of your shirt. Your laughter was filled with vitality and honest humor.
He rolled his eyes at you, leaning into the corner of the seat. He focused on you with amused eyes. “You’re unbelievable.”
“I was thinking. Are we going to get in trouble with this?” His brows knotted.
“I mean you’re a serpent,” You tugged at the lapel of the black leather,” aren’t you sworn to only date pink ladies or something? Or would they be green ladies? I don’t know, I’m not into that classification stuff.”
“So, you consider this a date?”
You took a swig of coke,” That’s the only thing you got from that whole spiel?” Out of all the important points. “Honestly, Juggie, you could have serious repercussions for not keeping to the code.”
“Am I pirate now?” His dimple shown for a just a second as he beamed through his chewing. Your heart constricted as you held his gaze.
“All I’m saying is I don’t think I can be the Sandy to your Zuko.” You looked away from him. Your chin tilted up and your smile soft. “I don’t smoke.”
“I don’t either.” He countered with a lifted brow.
“I don’t do girl groups with some really far out agenda.”
He laughed,” You’re reaching now.”
Turned back to him. His head leaned to the side as he studied you. He licked his lips in contemplation. “Well,” He folded his hands in his lap,” do you do bands of misfits?”
You brows tied in curiosity. “I’m listening.”
Jughead pointed to an old, mildly kempt truck that held a group of kids. They all seemed normal enough. One was a good looking kid, smiley and preppy. One girl with a high pony tail and clean cut clothes. Another girl with a gorgeous fur overcoat and rich silky hair. A boy with hair like embers who wore a letterman.
“Oh, I got the movie all wrong. You’re part of the breakfast club.” You teased gently.
A wry smile betrayed his disapproval of your poking. “Well, wanna join? It’s free.”
You rubbed your arm gently. His offer was upfront. You should have been excited. You looked at the group, all sharing a big blanket and laughing.
“You’re a loner.”
You blinked away your mental distance. You sighed,” I thought you might have been one too.”
“I was one.” He offered. He looked over his shoulder at the group of friends. “They wouldn’t let me be, so I decided to join them.” The fondness expressed from him was enough to make you smile.
“I thought there was only room for one loner in the group?”
“Hardly. Bender was a loner in his own right and Allison was most definitely a loner.” He displayed his knowledge of the classics with ease and confidence.
“A fellow movie buff, how comforting.” You shoveled some popcorn in your mouth.
He took the last sip of cola from your drink. “Care to accompany me to get more?”
You nodded, grabbing the popcorn for good measure. It’s not like you needed it for the movie. You hadn’t been paying attention to it anyway. The two of you weaved amongst the cars. Your shoulders brushing every other step.
His fingers brushed yours, pulling them away,” Where’s your jacket?”
“In the car.” You gave him a meek smile.
He exhaled a short puff through his nose whilst shaking his head. You curtailed him up to the concessions.
“Hey Donald, can we have a cherry cola refill?” The miserable kid behind the stand nodded. You felt bad for people who had no joy in serving. It was hard.
You leaned against the brick and stared at the screen. You felt Jug’s eyes on your face. You peeked over at him and delighted him with a grin.
“If I let you wear my jacket, will you go with me to say hi to my friends?” He had this hopeful look on his face you didn’t know how to resist.
“More deals?” You inhaled slowly.
He nodded sheepishly, a boyish grin on his soft features. The dimple that made an appearance sealed the deal. Damnit. The chill in the air nipped your nose and hugged your arms. You’d take the awkward first meeting over freezing another moment longer.
“Deal.”
You barely finished the hard ‘D’ when he held his jacket out for you to slip your arms into. His warmth immediately surrounded you. You nestled in close. It was like a hot mug of cocoa after a cold day. Jughead took the lapels in hand and tugged it into place.
You stepped into him, looking up,” Is it a good fit?”
“I’ve decided you make all clothing look better.” He let you go after a quick wink.
You shivered with delight. He was unaware and collecting the snacks. You held the drink in one hand and he cradled the popcorn. You had almost forgotten the deal back there, but as you fell into step with Jughead toward the truck full of strangers, you could feel the hairs on your arm stand on end.
You thought you might faint. You bit your lower lip anxiously. The static of your nerves must have spread to him, because he took your hand and gave it a squeeze.
You two exchanged a dynamic look. His confidence was reassuring. You didn’t know what you had to be worried about. It was then you realized the leather jacket didn’t give him
You could already see the curious looks from Jughead’s friends. You were riddled with nerves. You released a shaky breath before giving them all a big smile. Jughead held your hand gently. He waved at his friends, who all exchanged glances with a mix of astonished joy and curiosity.
“Jughead, who is this lovely lady?” The brunette chirped while giving Jughead a delighted smile.
“Hey Kev. Guys, this is (Y/N).” He smiled at you.
Kevin took your hand in his and gave it a warm shake,” I’m Kevin. You must tell me all about yourself.”
You laughed bashfully. The raven-haired girl piped up,” Down, Kev.” She loomed above you in the bed of the truck,” I’m Veronica Lodge. Welcome to Riverdale.”
“Thank you.” You shook her hand before receiving another hand. It belonged to a blond with a very comforting smile.
“I’m Betty Cooper, your guide to the ways of Riverdale High.” You felt a surge of relief. You thought you were going to be wreck on Monday. You had Jughead, but the thought of taking on a new high school was overwhelming.
“It’s so nice to meet you guys. I look forward to the tour. You’ll have to tell me the scoop on everything and everyone.” You smiled at her.
Before Archie could make his introduction, Kevin chimed in. “Oh, we have the inside on everything. We have who’s dating, who’s hating, and who’s hooking up. We’ve got the dirt on everyone.”
You laughed and Jughead rolled his eyes next to you. Veronica backed him up,” You won’t be lost at all.”
School on Monday didn’t seem so daunting. You thought in such a small town you’d have trouble being accepted. Who knew hitting a stranger in the head would turn out so well?
The redhead approached you and Jughead with a warm smile. “I’m Archie, Jughead’s best friend.”
You shook his hand,” That’s an interesting pair. It’s really nice to meet you.”
“We’d stick around guys, but there’s more room in her car.” Jughead rubbed the back of his neck after meeting the gaze of his friends. They were definitely going to talk. Actually, Kevin was going to talk.
You waved,” It was nice to meet you guys. See you Monday!” You turned with Jughead who put a hand in the air after his friends all said their goodbyes.
“That wasn’t so bad. They seem nice.” You smiled up at him.
He pulled you in,” It’s elementary, my dear Watson.”
The two of you finished the film and sat in silence for a moment.
“You never answered my question.” His voice was low and near a whisper.
You stirred next to him.
“Did you consider this a date?”
You wanted it to be a date. It felt pretty nice to be relaxing with someone who wasn’t a pusher. He made her laugh. This was part of a deal though and that was wear she tripped over the idea.
“You said I could read your manuscript if I came.”
His lips fell. He was reeling from your comment. The air between you already cooling.
“I came because I wanted to see you.”
He nodded slowly, weighing the information. He took a long drink and set it down. You could see a faint smile peeking from the straw.
You were grateful with the ease of honesty between the two of you. You were, after all, two acquaintances. Besides, you figured he’d wanted to see you. Why would he skip an evening with his friends?
“I do still owe you the manuscripts.” He looked down at your buzzing phone. “I suspect we’ll have to make another deal though for that to happen?”
You frowned staring at your mother’s name on the phone screen. “I suppose we must.”
“Let me walk you to school on Monday. I’ll bring the manuscripts.”
You nodded,” Sounds solid.” You watched a few cars drive off. “Do you need a ride, Jughead?”
He shook his head and motioned to the truck,” No need. I’ll catch a ride with them. I’m staying with Archie, but thank you.”
You began removing his jacket, but he stopped you,” Keep it for collateral.”
You shrugged back into it with a smile,” Very well.”
He exited your vehicle taking the remnants of your popcorn and soda throwing them away. He came to the driver-side and smiled down at you. “Goodnight, basket case.”
“Goodnight, criminal.” You beamed.
He began to walk away but you caught his hand. “Wait, you’re not leaving me for the second time with no way to reach you.”
He smirked playfully. He did want you to think about him all night without any word. You plucked his phone out of his hand and put your number in.
“Don’t forget to use it.” You smiled before pulling off.
You forced your mother to wait for the details of your date until the morning. You needed a shower. Maybe even a cold one. Jughead wasted no time in texting you that night. You texted him up until you crawled into your bed.
You were about to turn the light off when small, rapid pattering came at your window.
Fear gripped you as you peered out into the darkness.
SHE'S NO YOU - Background + Ch.1
As promised, it's here! ###PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE READING THIS FIC!!### A/N: This book is based in 2016, in New York City. Finn is CEO of his own company, and his Ex-wife Rae is a Senior Architect at her Friend Chloe's Company. Together, they have Two beautiful children, Josh who's 7, and Ruby who's 6. Both in there mid-30s, thry despise each other after an ugly divorce. They are both very family oriented, both with plenty of Siblings. I wanted a different twist to my MMFD fic, especially for Finn.  Rae (32): Linda (65) & Karim (50) (step-dad to all siblings), Robert (38) + family, Julian (35) + son, Mark (34). Rae + Siblings: dad passed away when Rae was 6 months old. He wasn't very loving, and died a lonely man. - Finn (35): Gary (69) (Finns mum non-existent) & Veronica (58), Natalia (31) + family, Daniel (25) + GF, Mika (23), AND FINALLY FINNS LAST BROTHER IS... ARCHIE! (33) Just to explain Finns family... Finns mum and Gary had a small fling before he started dating Veronica. Finns mum Julie turned up with a 3 month old baby boy claiming it was Gary's (this point he was seeing veronica). She gave Finn to Gary and took off with a wad of cash.. never to be seen again. Finn calls Veronica ma, and is the only mother he has known. Together Gary and Veronica had Archie, Natalia, Daniel and Mika. (DNA tests confirm Finn is Gary's son) - SO much information to take in, but I thought I'd give you a bit of information about everyone. Chloe, chop, archie and izzy will have aperences in this book but I wanted this to focus more on Rae and Finn!! As always ignore my grammar mistakes and spelling! Not too good at editing. --- CHAPTER ONE - DIVIDE --- "Kids hurry up, your father will be here any minute now" I yelled up the stairs whilst I finished organising their weekend bags. It was a constant battle to get them moving after 6pm. If it wasn't to go to the toilet or get food, I swear my childen wouldn't shift away from that idiotic TV. "Josh! Don't forget to pack your inhaler this time" I called over my shoulder. "There's no freaking way I'm dropping that off again" I mumbled to myself, thinking about the awful scene. He called me lousy mother for not packing it, and I called him a dick for not double checking it was there. Yep, it wasn't a Rae and Finn 'chit-chat' without a smidgen of abuse thrown around. Verbal abuse, of course. He wasn't a violent person, but a slip of his tongue could pack a punch. "Got it mum" Josh smiled. His spiderman onsie was a little big for him. It had been flying off the shelves when I walked into Target a few weeks ago. I grabbed the closest one, running away from the dog pile mother's had formed in the Isle. He looks adorable, and turns out they are his favourite pj's. Bonus! "Good. Now can you please tell your sister to hurry up and brush her teeth whilst I finish getting ready" I cooed. When he turned around, i cheakily patted his bum. I chuckled at the little scowl he gave me. It always reminded me so much of his father, it was honestly heart breaking. The little facial expressions he gives you, and them chocolate brown eyes were everything. Joshua did make me miss the man that tore my life apart, just that little bit more everyday. I went to the mirror, trying to ignore the small argument that was going on from the upstairs bathroom. Currently, (by the sounds of things) Ruby is giving her brother another ear full about using her princess toothpaste; very expensive toothpaste may I add. Even at the age of 6, I could see my little girl becoming a diva. I re-applied my nude lipstick, smacking my lips together for effect. Then straightened out the skirt of my black dress, making sure there were no wrinkles. Lastly, I tussled the soft curls in my hair, and deemed myself acceptable for the rest of the population. It was already 7:25pm, and I had a company dinner at my one of my families restaurants. It was still a 20 minute drive by taxi (if the traffic was good), and at this rate I was going to be late for the 8pm start. Between the kids messing around upstairs and Finn's tardiness, my frustrations would soon boil over. I say 7pm, he comes 30 minutes late. Of course, I couldn't expect anything better from the deceitful man. "Mooooom, do we have to go to dads? Can't I just come with you?" "Ruby we've been over this four times-" I sighed. "But-" "No! It's your dad's weekend and your going to spend time with him honey. He loves you. He wants to spend time with you" I ran my fingers through her curly brown hair that was a complete mess on top of her head. Another thing for him to complain about I guess. "I love daddy too. I just wish she wasn't there all the time". I couldn't help but awkwardly drop to my knees in front of my little girl. I lifted her chin and kissed her plump cheek, this seemed to become a annual accurance everytime she was set to spend every second weekend with Finn or even the two school pick ups he did on Tuesday and Thursday. I couldn't stand the bitch she was talking about as much as the next person, but I couldn't tell a 6 year old that. It sadden me that she felt this way but the one time I tried to express that to my ex-husband, he went off on another crazy rant about slandering his girlfriend to our children. It nearly caused us another day in court.  "You need to tell daddy that" I stroked her cheek and got to my feet just as the bell rang. "I don't want him to be angry with me..." she sniffed. I could see my daughters eyes glisten with unshed tears. As a mother, you never want to see your children cry, doing everything in your power to make them happy. This unfortunately was something that I couldn't help fix, without world War 3 breaking out in my living room. "Baby he would never get mad at you. Now go get cleaned up and hurry back. I'll go let daddy in" she nodded, headed back towards the bathroom whilst I went towards the large wooden door of my town house. "Finally" Finn grumbled as I opened the door. He stood there in his work clothes, since it was a Friday night I understood why. He looked as dashing as always in his suit and tie. I was glad he went for the light colours today, normally it was always red and black. He looked handsome. As always. "Well hello to you too" I mused sarcasticly. Leaving the door open, I didn't even wait for his grunt reply and just simply went to the kids suitcases. "Everything is packed. Josh now has two puffs of his inhaler at night as well as in the morning, just until his completely over this small cold he can't seem to shake. Doctors aren't worried but it's just for precaution". "Why wasn't I notified about this doctors appointment Rae! I'm his father I should of been there" Here we go again. "I did call your office, your mobile was busy..." I slipped on Joshua's jacket on his shoulders, not even bothering to acknowledge Finn whilst I talked to him. "I left a message with your assistant-girlfriend whatever. If she didn't give you the message then it's not my problem". "RUBY, HONEY. HURRY UP OR MOMMY WILL BE LATE" I called just before I heard the pitty patter of her feet. "Hey dad" Josh cuddled his dad once i finished buttoning up his jacket. They had always had a strong relationship, it's something I've admired. From birth he cared more about his father's soothing voice then the women that carried his little body around for nine months. Not that I cared, I was glad that their relationship was so close, I always had my little boy but Finn had his mini me. You could tell that made him proud. "Hey buddy, how was school?" A genuine smile radiated Finn face. He crouched down so he was looking up at Joshua whilst he talked about his day, and how Mrs. Thorne gave him a gold star of his creative writing story.  "Hi daddy" Ruby's timid voice sounded off when she walked towards her brother and father. They both didn't notice, so I didn't feel the need to acknowledge it either. Another kick to the stomach, as a mother. "There's my beautiful little girl! Have you been keeping mom and joshy on their toes" he grinned picking up ruby's little body and giving her a squeeze. "Well Joshua has been using my toothpaste again..." I left them to talk by the door and ordered a taxi. I looked at the time again as I slid on my coat, and grabbed my bag off the kitchen counter. 7:40pm. I was definitely going to be late for the dinner start, but I new they wouldn't be ordering food til at least 8:30pm. Thank God. "You two go to James and he will help you guys get into the car" he nodded to his driver who stood waiting. "I'll grab your suitcases and meet you there. I just have to talk to mommy, Ohkay?" They both nodded, then gave me both a kiss goodbye. Trotting off towards James yelling Hello as they got situated in the car. I waved towards James and smiled, he had once been my driver when Finn and I were married, he was a lovable old chap that use to talk my ear off. I miss our little chats. "Where are you going?" The question didn't come across one, more of a demand to tell him why I was dressed up and heading out on this rare occasion.  "Work dinner. Not that it's any of your business..." I couldn't help but flush at our proximity. This was probably the closest we had been in years, and that was only because he was standing directly in my way. "Your little boyfriend not taking you out I see, how disappointing". He smirked watching the anger build within me. He knew I was a ticking time bomb, I always have been. I can't help that I take after my mother in that aspect but he has no right talking about Greg and our Relationship. Yes, we have both 'moved somewhat on'. "Excuse me! What does Greg have to do with this Finn" I sneered. "What about your girlfriend where's she? Spending all your money on another boob job?" Shit. Why did I have to open my big, fat mouth. He fed me the bait, and I took it. "Liv is actually at her sister's house if you must know. Tonight it's just the kids and I" I relaxed when he didn't scream back at me. It was still weird to watch his demeanor go ridged, and know I was the one to cause it. "And if you must know-" I fucking knew he would have more of an input. "I quite like Liv's tits the way they are, firm and perky. Unlike someone I know, maybe you should get yours done". "You mother fu- how dare you fucking body shame me! These 'saggy' tits of mine fed both of your kids for nearly two years each, giving them the best start in life. You asshole" His face was stoic, but I could see in his brown eyes there was a hint of underlying sadness- regret even. "Rae I didnt-". "Get out!" "Wait-". "I said get out of my house Finn. Now! Before I grab our kids out of that car. How dare you treat me like that". I was too mad to cry, too angry to even care anymore. Even though Greg and I's sexual relationship wasn't as active as I hoped, I knew for a fact he liked my body. After two kids, who used my body like a factory I was proud I managed to maintain my weight for once. No more late night snacks, and unhealthy foods. I didn't want to go back to my former obesity stage, high school was not kind to me. He grabbed the suite cases with a sigh and headed for the door just as the taxi pulled up. No more words were exchanged. We both knew it would damage this non existing relationship more. -- There's chapter one... I hope you liked it. And there will be more too come. If you want to be tagged just tell me. If not, it's all cool bro :) @lily-pop-2 @eveerez @i-dream-of-emus
Snow Day
Tumblr media
Thank you @justanotherbugheadtrash for this prompt. I have filled this as a sequel to my fic “It’s a Girl... and a Boy” which was based on a prompt requested by @believe-that-you-can-my-friend
That fic is not essential reading, all you need to know is Polly has had her twins, assisted by Betty and Jughead and Jughead’s mum on the phone. This is set a few weeks later.
This is full on unapologetic fluff. I hope you enjoy.
Jughead hated Christmas, it was the time of the year when his family pretended everything was fine and dandy, that his mum and dad had not spent the night screaming at each other, while he held Jellybean in their room, her sobbing in his arms. It came round every year like clockwork and they would sit at the table, exchanging pleasantries knowing that it would all go back to normal the next day.
 Betty loved Christmas, Christmas was the holiday that suited her best. Brightness, family and singing songs, it was like Betty Cooper come to life. He reflected on this as he watched her bouncing around the Cooper kitchen, signing along to Christmas songs while she filled the home with the smell of gingerbread. He couldn’t help but smile at her, and thought to himself that maybe this Christmas wouldn’t be so bad after all. His mum had called the week before saying that she would have to cancel her planned trip due to work and he had tried to hide the disappointment in his voice.
 A ring of the doorbell, broke them both out of their little bubble. Betty seemed confused as to who it might be. Her mum was at the paper finishing up the last issue before the Christmas break, Archie and Ronnie had gone Christmas Caroling and Kevin was spending this time out of town with his mum. Polly was upstairs resting and so were the twins. Jughead and Betty were helping where they could. She brushed her hands on her apron before giving a warning look to Jughead who was already eyeing up the cooling biscuits on the rack.
 She returned shortly after her smile beaming on her face. She was not alone. There was his mum and Jellybean trailing shortly behind. He dropped the biscuit he had been eating and ran to them. Hugging his mum enthusiastically before bending down to give Jellybean her own hug.
“Mum. Jellybean.” He shouted
“It’s JB now.” She said seriously, giving him a look.
“Of course.” He couldn’t wipe the smile off his face. “What are you guys doing here, I thought with work?”
“I was able to persuade them to reconsider and I wanted to surprise you. I went to your fathers and he told me you would be here. At the Cooper’s home.” Her eyebrows were slightly raised at this a coy smile on her face.
“Yeah we were baking.” He said waving his hand at the cookies by way of explanation.
“Oh, baking.”
“I invited Juggie over to help me get ready for Christmas.” Betty explained. “And help with the twins.”
“Oooooh Juggie.” JB teased.
“Shut up JB.” Jughead shot back and JB poked out her tongue at him. He had missed this back and forth between them, the gentle teasing. He missed having his sister and his mum around.
“Now, now Forsythia, go easy on your brother, or I might just have to tell him about the James kid at school.” Gladys said with a sweet smile.
“Muuuum.” JB whined.
“So where are these little babies.” His mum cooed.
"They are sleeping mum, in the nursery with Polly.”
"Oh I can't wait to see them.” She clasped her hands together containing her excitement.
"Juggie's been a great godfather." Betty added, smiling lovingly as she clasped her hand in his, leaning her body against his.
"I haven't done that much really, changed a few nappies, put them to sleep with Betty's help of course." He added smiling at his girlfriend squeezing her hand tightly.
"I’m sure you are helping a lot, even if it may seem you are not doing much every little bit helps." Gladys reminded him. “Anyway, why don’t you kids take it easy. Go out and enjoy the snow.” Betty looked concerned glancing upstairs to where Polly was resting and then to the oven where her next batch was still cooking. “I’ll come and grab you when Polly wakes, and take the biscuits out when the alarm goes off.” Betty still seemed hesitant and felt a tugging on her sleeve, the youngest Jones looking up at her expectedly.
“Please Betty, I want to play in the snow.”
“Okay let’s go.” She decided, she had worked hard that morning and could do with some with time in the snow, she hadn’t really had a chance to enjoy it yet.
When they were all bundled up, they walked out into the front yard which was still covered in a thick blanket of white snow. JB immediately pulled Betty to her side.
“Boys against girls.” she announced. The pair looked at her confused. “For the snow ball fight.” She sighed heavily as if she had to explain everything.
“But there is two of you.” Jughead complained.
“What are you scared you are going to get beaten by a couple of girls.” JB teased back, swaying from side to side as she taunted him.
“Fine.”
“We will give you a head start.” Betty added, JB’s playfulness was contagious. Jughead frowned before breaking off from them running to the large oak tree in the Cooper’s yard before crouching at the other side making his snowballs.
Betty and JB decided he had had enough of a head start before running off in the direction of the garage crouching low at the other side of Mrs.Jones’ car. They giggled excitedly as they started to make their own ammunition. They had just finished their first row when they heard the tell tale crunches of snow under their oppositions boots. Betty looked at JB who put her finger up to her lips making a ‘shh’ gesture before she went to sneak around the other side of the car. Taking a coat full of snowballs with her. Betty readied herself for an attack two snowballs in hand ready to pelt him as he came round the corner and eyeing her next destination across to the bushes up against the side of the house.
“Ah ha.” He said as he rounded the corner and she threw the snowballs immediately, hitting him square in the chest, as he threw and hit her in the shoulder as she made a run for it, shrieking loudly as she ran.
Seizing upon the opportunity JB from her vantage point began pelting snowballs from her jacket into the back of Jughead’s head, the impact almost knocking the beanie from his head. As he realised what was happening he set off after JB as Betty returned to their cache of snowballs gathering them up in her own coat.
They continued the same back and forth with Betty and JB at a clear advantage working together to keep him on his toes. As JB went to start making more snowballs from their home base behind the car, Jughead gave chase to Betty who was running to the other side of the house. He soon caught up to her as she was laughing too heavily to run at full speed without loosing her balance and falling.
He grabbed her tightly around the waist and as he swung her around he lost his footing. He fell backwards still clutching her body and she landed on top of him their faces close to together. She was still laughing her warm breath fanning across his face. He looked into her eyes as her laughing died down under the intensity of his stare as she realised that her body was flush against his, as he protected her from the biting cold of the snow. He took in her features, her nose slightly reddened at the cold, eyes intensely green against her pale skin. Unable to stop himself he brought his lips to hers. She melted into the kiss, savouring the warmth of his lips against her cold ones. His hand was in her hair pulling her closer, deepening the kiss.
“You got him.” JB announced triumphantly as she rounded the corner to see them in the snow. “Oh eww.” She exclaimed, making a disgusting sound for added emphasis as she realised they were kissing.
They both broke apart, Betty stood up first removing herself from his warm embrace her cheeks already flushing red with embarrassment. He followed her brushing the snow from his clothes as he gave JB a look of exasperation.
They were both thankful for Gladys’ call from the porch that the babies were stirring. They ran up to the house and Betty went up the stairs to help Polly. Jughead stayed in the lounge with his mum and JB.
“Jughead and his girlfriend were kissing.” JB announced, as Jughead hid his head in his hands, he forgot what it was like to have a little sister around telling your parents all your secrets. Gladys smiled at her son and turned to JB.
“Did you have a nice time in the snow?” She asked diverting the 10 year old’s attention to save him the embarrassment.
“Yeah, we totally won, the snow fight” She added by way of explanation. “Betty is really fast, Jughead didn’t stand a chance against us.” She said proudly. “Can we go out again?”
“Sure tomorrow I think Maybe I will have to join Forsythe’s team to even them up.”
“Yeah mum I think he needs all the help he can get.”
Polly and Betty returned down the stairs each carrying a baby in their arms.
“Polly this is Jughead’s mum and his sister JB.”
“Hi, this is Jason and Eliza.” Polly greeted them, and Jughead could practically see his mum melting into a puddle at the sight of the two small babies. Betty offered her Jason Jnr and Gladys took him in her arms, swaying him gently.
“This is Jughead’s godson.” Betty explained as she watched her cooing at him.
“He had been a god send Mrs Jones.” Jughead could feel his blush returning at Polly’s comments. JB peered anxiously at the two small bundles.
“Can I look?” She asked. Polly smiled and handed Eliza to Jughead who bent down to JB’s level holding the Eliza carefully as JB stared at the little girl. Smiling as she opened her mouth yawning before closing it again.
“They are two beautiful angels, Polly.”
“I’m just lucky that Betty and Jughead were here, and that you answered your phone.” Gladys laughed in response.
“Definetley one of the stranger calls I have received from Forsythe.”
JB and Jughead were sitting out on the Cooper’s porch, examining the snowman that they had created that afternoon, as the sun was going down. His mum and the Cooper sisters were spending time with the twins. JB had gotten bored pretty quickly watching them and he had suggested they go and build a snowman.
“I like Betty.” She said, looking at her older brother as he continued to watch the sun slip beneath the horizon.
“I like her too.” He admitted. Smiling at the memory of her.
“Do you loooove her.” JB teased her voice rising higher.
“Maybe. Do you love this James kid?” He replied, turning to face her to see her throwing her head back in frustration.
“Ugh I told mum not to mention anything.” She gritted out. “Does that mean your not coming back with us.” She asked her voice quiet. He sighed hearing the disappointment in her voice.
“There is that, but someone has to look out for Dad as well. I think he is getting better JB, and I know we have heard it all before, but I think this time it might be real.”
“I hope so.” He put his arm around his sister pulling her in close to his side.
“Me too.”
Highlights from the Mixed Cast panel at Storytelling Con, Barcelona, April 22, 2017
Please note I missed the first 10 minutes of this panel... 5AM is early to get up on a Saturday :)
Favorite scenes for each actor:
Gil:  “I guess I have to go with meeting Ariel.  I’ve had some nice scenes but that was really the special one.  It was the first scene that I shot.  Walking down the stairs and seeing Ariel and falling in love.”
Sean:  “It’s difficult to pick one because there are lots of scenes that I enjoyed.  But there is an episode [4.17] where I’m riding a horse down a street in New York.  And obviously you can’t ride a real horse on concrete because it’s dangerous.  So they have this pretend mechanical horse which is just a big rocking horse and they put it on a truck and they drive it down the street.  So I’m on a big pretend rocking horse driving down a main street and there are all these people in Vancouver looking at me going what is that guy doing?  And I was like... I’m Robin Hood.”
Beverley:  “My favorite scene was in Red Handed, when Ruby was just about to attack Peter and I threw the cape on her... that was so exciting because we were outside in the snow it was beautiful it was tense and we were fighting and I had to throw the cape on her and turn her back into Ruby.”
Bex:  “I have two favorite scenes.  My first one I love the scene with Zelena and Regina in the episode... I love all the stuff that explores the relationship between the sisters.  And there was one episode in season 5 called Sisters... there was a very emotional scene with me and my sister and our mommy when she made us hold hands and close our eyes and we remembered that we had known each other all along.  That was my first one and my second one was the musical which you haven’t seen yet!”
Gil sang A Whole New World to Deniz as if he was Ariel.
Bex best moment as the Wicked Witch:  “My song in the musical was so much fun!  I don’t even know what to do with myself.  I keep looking at the calendar is it May 7th yet?  That was the best moment for my character because in this song it tells my character’s whole story in one three and a half minute song.  One of the best days of my life.”
The most touching moment filming scenes:
Gil:  “Getting to kiss Ariel.  Multiple times.  I was like ‘can I get one more?’  They are like Gil it doesn’t need to be an open mouthed kiss.”
Bex:  “One of the most emotional scenes I shot was when I had to give up my baby to Robin and Regina because I was hurting her and I had to surrender her that was really...”
Beverley:  “When they were going through the gate back to [the Enchanted Forest] and I had to say goodbye to Roland.  [...]  I was holding the baby and I kissed his head that was very touching.  Raphael is a gorgeous little actor.”
Sean:  “Obviously working with Raphael.  I started working with him before I became a dad... because I was a child actor myself I felt very protective over him.  It was one of the first days I was filming with him I had him in my arms and he was only 5 at the time and I have lots of nieces and nephews and I’m very touchy feelly and I kissed him on the head.  We weren’t filming and he turned around and said ‘did you just kiss me?’  And I was like yes, yes I did.  I’m not sure if I’m supposed to do that... why is this strange man kissing me... from day one we had a really strong bond, we got along very well.  He’s just a very sweet boy and I love him.”
Faustino:  “When we have these little glimpses of nature cutting in.  We were shooting a scene [in 3.02] by the river with Snow White and Charming and all the dwarves and in comes a deer.  Just starts walking.  Walking ... walking and we’re just kind of doing our scene and the deer is in the scene.  Everyone at that point was .. and then at that point the deer was right there and Ginny goes ‘oh my god’ ... and on the wedding scene we had some birds that snuck in the building while filming we had those glimpses of nature setting in...”
Deniz:  “I was always a big fan of the cartoons of Aladdin and on the first day we actually got to do the scene where I fly in and Jasmine’s in the hourglass and Jafar’s there with the staff and I’m in the cartoon I’ve watched four hundred million times...  And I got to be Aladdin and save her...”
What do you love most about Once Upon a Time:
Gil:  “That I got to play a Disney prince.  Because honestly I was shocked that I got that part.  I feel honored and humbled.”
Deniz:  “That I got to work with all these lovely people.”
Faustino:  “I love the message.  It’s a message of hope and ah that message is represented through all of you.  Thank you.”
Bex:  “The best thing about Once Upon a Time is how it’s brought all of us together.  The fandom has created a community.  Like no matter what happens we’ll always have each other.”
Beverley:  “I love that it took these fairy tales that we all knew as children and then gave this life and history which connected all of us together.  And that it’s international.  The cast is international and now we get to travel the world and have this international community.”
Sean:  “I just like that I get to wear leather head to toe all day and they pay me.”
Will Zelena be a good person or will she just be a wicked witch:  “I think Zelena is going through a massive transformation... I think becoming a mother has made her heart softer.  You’ll see throughout the rest of the season what happens with Zelena’s relationship with Regina but I think no matter how redeemed my character becomes there always be a little bit of wicked in there.”
What UK food does Bex miss the most:  “A good bloody cup of tea!  Like a proper cup of tea with milk and sugar!  Like a lady!”
For Sean:  What do you like most about playing a Disney fairy tale character?  “Well I thought of Robin Hood as a character by itself before Disney made a Disney movie of Robin Hood.  I just liked the fact that I got to play a ...  just getting to play the legend of Robin Hood.  It’s just one of those characters that any male actor would really enjoy.”
What do you think about fans that follow you around the world [at conventions] are they crazy?:
Bex:  “I think it’s amazing that people get on a plane to come and meet us.  It’s mental.  We are very very honored and it really means a lot to us.”
They were asked to dance the Macarana.  Bex attempted to decline saying she needs more coffee but Beverley made them all get up and do it.  The editor at this point is having 1990s PTSD flashbacks...
Favorite same sex love interest for your own characters:
Sean:  “I don’t want to disappoint the gents here because they’re strapping men every one of them but I’d have to say my old pal Colin O’Donoghue.  When he raises that eyebrow I just fall to pieces.”
Gil:  “Aladdin here.  He’s got long hair .... something to grab hold of....”
Deniz:  “I’d have to go with the one and only Prince Charming.  He’s the prince of Charming.”
Faustino:  “Charming absolutely.”
Beverley:  “I just feel strange because I’m a grandmother... of course Zelena would be number one but my tied for number one ... Jasmine ...”
Bex:  “I think Zelena might have a crush on Belle.  She’s so little!  I can pick her up she’s so cute!  In really life I think Rebecca Mader would go for Lana Parrilla we’re not sisters in real life so it’s not wrong.  It’s not weird.”
How long does it take to become the Wicked Witch:  “Three hours.  Seven coffees.  And lots of snapchat, twitter and instagram.  But once the green makeup is on it can stay on for 17 hours and then it takes half an hour to take off.  And then I look 16 at the end because it’s taken all the skin off.”
Who is your favorite scene partner:
Beverley:  “I love hanging out with Archie and Geppetto.  We have a nice little trio and the three of us [talk a lot].”
Gil:  “Again there are just so many to choose from.  I’m going to say Joanna who plays Ariel.  Though last time I was up there I got to work with Karen David and she was absolutely wonderful.  Do you want to trade?” [to Deniz]
Deniz:  “Karen David’s my answer.  Actually no Jafar.. Oded is so fun to work with.  He’s so evil and so lovely in person.  It’s kind of cool to see him switch.”
Faustino:  “Since I play dwarf I’m going to say my dwarf brothers.  Because we have a lot of fun all the time.”
Sean:  “I can’t pick one person.  All of us became good friends.  Bex is like my sister, Colin is like my brother, Mikey Raymond-James who left the show a little while ago is one of my best friends.... it’s a tie.  Lana obviously ... I can’t pick between all of my favorites.”
Bex:  “Lana Parrilla!  Two reasons I like working with my sister the most.  One when we’re in character we play and each take is different.  And number two she makes tea like a British lady.  I spend a lot of time in her trailer drinking her tea and eating her chocolate.”
If you could play any other character:
Sean declines to answer because they were all well cast.  “I’m very happy I got to be Robin Hood because I think I would have been a terrible Queen of Darkness.”
Bex doesn’t want to play anyone else but her.
Beverley:  Rumple.
Deniz:  “I’d like to play Zelena for a day.  Just for a day.  One day get green...”
Gil:  “Prince Charming because he’s gotten to do way more episodes than me.”
Faustino: “Hook, that’s an interesting character.”
An Evening Walk - Chapter 12
Thursday morning found Rae and Finn on opposite spectrums.
Finn took advantage of his already being at work. Using the studio’s shower and donning the spare set of clothes he kept around for the odd all-nighter, he was fresh and calm. His old Oasis shirt and dark blue checked button-down were comfortable with his faded jeans. He sipped his tea as Rae ran around making certain she left nothing behind she might need later. “Can I help, Rae? Can you sit for a cuppa with me?” Finn set his mug down and wrapped an arm around Rae’s back. Kissing his cheek quickly, Rae mumbled, “Yeah, I think I can manage that.” Finn smiled. “Then sit yourself down and let’s have a proper morning before you rush off.” Rae sighed. Being with Finn could be so stimulating. This particular morning though Rae was soothed by his serenity. He was the rock to steady her on what could prove to be quite a manic day. Finn made them both some toast as Rae tried to smooth the wrinkles in her clothes. She was just planning to catch a taxi home but she didn’t need to look a fright on the journey. They sipped and chewed in silence. Both were tired but content. Admiring glances flew between the two as they finished their breakfast.
Finn waited outside with Rae for her taxi after she refused to let him give her a ride home. Tucking her into the car, Finn kissed her soundly and tapped the roof of the vehicle once her door was closed. He stood and waved as the taxi pulled out to the main street.
Upon returning to her flat, Rae scurried around sorting her clothes for Saturday’s trip to Stamford. After throwing a load in her washing machine she stood before her wardrobe with her hands on her hips. Rae was hoping to choose a work ensemble and set aside another to go from work to dinner with Finn, Archie and James for the following night. Finally settling on her favorite black dress for Friday, Rae hung it on the open wardrobe door. Taking her other selection for her current work day with her to the bathroom, Rae bathed and got ready. As Rae was stepping out of the shower Ace of Base’s All That She Wants echoed down the hall. Scurrying to grab her phone as she wrapped a towel around herself, Rae took a deep breath and pressed the answer button. She rolled her eyes as she considered her decision to pick the most annoying song she could remember for her mum’s ringtone. Rae chuckled. It certainly inspired her to rush to answer Linda’s calls. “Hiya, Mum. I was just going to-” Naturally, Rae was cut off. “Well, Rae, the weekend is quickly approachin’ and I have yet to hear when we can expect ya.” Her mum’s voice was even more clipped than usual. Breathing out through her nose, Rae pinched its bridge and calmly said, “I know, Mum. I will be leaving on the early train Saturday. Finn and I will be there around noon, OK?” Linda giggled. “Ah, Rae, I told ya. I knew that man of yours would want to come along.” Nodding to no one, Rae added, “Indeed, Mum, you were right. I’ll ring you if anything changes, yeah?” Rae cringed at her mum’s sigh of pleasure. “Of course, love. We’ll see you both on Saturday. Love you, Chicken.” Rae grinned despite herself. “I love ya too, Mum. Bye.” She tapped her phone off and tossed it into her open handbag sitting by her front door. With a flip of her wet hair, Rae returned to the bath to continue getting dressed.
The day passed in a blur. Rae and Finn exchanged quick texts as Finn was busy in another epic recording and editing session.
Finn - How’s my girl? She blushed as she typed her response. Rae - Good. Missing you. I hope the session’s going well. Finn - This band is brilliant! You’d love them. Can’t wait to play the tracks for you. And I miss you more. Seeing you this morning certainly helped. ;o)
Rae was typing her response as Finn’s next message came through.
Finn - They’re ready for another go. I better crack on. Have a lovely day, gorgeous. I’ll be thinking of you. XXX
Her idiotic grin held all the way to the tube as Rae walked to the station.
“And that’s all for me here at No Crap FM. I’m Rae Earl and I’ll be rockin’ with you again tomorrow.” Rae stilled and stared at the Now Recording sign. The light went off and Rae exhaled. Chop burst through the door rubbing his hands. “Massive, massive show, Rae. That were a right bear with all those callers tonight.” Massaging her forehead and fanning herself, Rae said, “Agreed. And what’s going on with the air in here? It’s hotter than a snake’s arse.” Chop dabbed at his forehead and said, “Yeah, I sent a message down to maintenance. We’ll see to it before tomorrow’s show.” A wicked grin appeared on Chop’s face. He waggled a finger and said, “You know all those callers means you’ve got a following, Rae. The public is loving you and your tunes.” Rae pulled on her blouse to help some air get in. With a sincere but tired smile, she said, “That’s great news, Chop. I’m chuffed to know it.” She leaned toward him and raised an eyebrow. “Maybe the station heads will give ya a raise for such splendid leadership.” Chop waved his hand dismissively. “Bollocks to that! You’re the one who deserves a raise.” Resting his hands on the table he added, “I sure hope you’re getting what you’re worth, Raemundo.” Rae chuckled at the nickname and stood up. “Alright, my dear, I’m knackered. I’ll see ya tomorrow, yeah?” Chop lifted his hand and did a tiny wave. “Toodle-loo, m’dear. Have a grand night.” Rae waved from the door and laughed as she said, “You do the same. ‘Night, Chop.” The door closed and Rae went to her work desk to grab her things. She was still too warm from the overheated studio to put on her coat. Tucking it in the crook of her arm, Rae grabbed her shoulder bag and walked to the lifts.
As the main doors of the building closed behind her, Rae took a deep breath and stood in the cool air. Her sticky clothes were starting to dry and a wave of exhaustion came over her.
She was clearing the street toward the tube station as her phone vibrated. Rae had a feeling she knew who it was. Hitting the answer button Rae said, “Hello you.” “Hello yourself.” Finn snickered. “How’d the session go, then?” Rae pulled her hair around her neck to get some of the cool air. Finn coughed. “Em, it’s still going on actually. I think it’s going to be another all-nighter.” Rae yawned, “I’m sorry, Finn. I hope it goes well.” Finn sighed. “I’m just disappointed I can’t ask you round. I’ve got the lot from the band’s production team. It’s going to be a full house here at the studio.” Rae was touched by his thoughtfulness. “It’s all for the best, Finn.” Trying to hold back another yawn, Rae said, “I’m shattered after the show tonight. I’ll just go home and crash.” “Please look after yourself, girl. I wish I could be there to tuck you in.” Finn’s tone was fatigued but still flirty. “I’ll say the same. Please get some rest, Finn.” “I will. I just had a thought, Rae.” “What’s that?” “This is the first night we’ve spent apart since we met.” Rae held the phone tighter and longed to crawl through to the other end and hold Finn close. “Aw, Finn.” She heard him exhale. “I’ve gotten used to falling asleep with you and waking up to you, girl.” Rae’s cheeks hurt from smiling. “As have I, Finn,” she whispered. “Well, this will make tomorrow night and this weekend sweeter. I will well and truly miss you, Rae.” “Me too,” she pouted. “Until tomorrow, girl. Get some rest, Rae.” “You too. Goodnight, Finn.” Both rang off and Rae continued to the tube.
Making it back to hers, Rae dropped her bag on the floor and went straight to her bedroom. After grabbing her nightie, she thought a quick shower would help her wind down. Freshly clean and dressed for sleep, Rae pulled back her duvet. Fluffing her pillows, she curled up on the side of the bed. Rae usually slept dead center. She turned on her side and looked at the open space. She’d become accustomed to making room for Finn. Reaching for another pillow, Rae hugged it to herself and closed her eyes. The faint smell of Finn’s shampoo filled her nostrils as she drifted off to sleep.
Rae awoke to knocking at her door and She Is Love playing from her phone on its charger down the hall. Glancing at the clock Rae saw it was gone ten. She hadn’t slept so long in ages. Rolling out of bed, she stumbled barefoot down the hall to find out who was knocking and answer her phone. Phone in hand, Rae was about to answer the call when she glanced through the peephole and smiled as she opened the door. Finn was there. Hands full with a cardboard carrier containing lidded paper cups, a bag and his phone cradled between his ear and shoulder. Rae grinned at him as she reached to take his phone.
“I brought brekkie! Tea and buns…em…” The words faded on his tongue as he took in Rae’s appearance. His eyes crept along the length of her bare legs to the short hemline of her emerald green night dress. His gaze became more lusty as he reached her hips, chest and neck. Her raven locks hung in loose waves. He observed one of the thin straps had fallen off her shoulder. Finn entered, set the tea and buns on the entryway table, his eyes never leaving Rae’s as he plucked his phone from her grip and set it down. Reaching out a hand, Finn dragged the loose strap back into place, letting his fingers trace over Rae’s creamy skin. He let out a longing breath as he saw the goosebumps rise along Rae’s décolletage.
Stepping so close their chests touched, Finn groaned out, “I missed ya, girl.” He brushed his knuckles over Rae’s cheek. His fingers opened in her hair and drew her lips closer.
Rae’s hands came to rest on the sides of Finn’s broad chest. She hummed as he kissed her. Brushing her lips over his, she whispered, “I missed ya, too.” Smiling against her lips, Finn rubbed his nose against Rae’s and matched her volume as he said, “Show me how much.” Their lips locked. They moved as one down the hall to Rae’s bedroom.
To Be Continued...
