Harry’s lyric “I’m well aware I write too many songs about you” is the biggest Larry proof out there. If you think he’s written that about his past “girlfriends” who he spent a year to the day or less with, you don’t know him at all
I agree, it’s a major piece to the puzzle. If he was still writing songs about someone he loved, long term beautiful romantic songs, he wouldn’t be parading with a new girl every second day. It’s clear so many of those songs are about louis.
I particularly like the “I know that you’re scared because hearts get broken, I know that you’re scared because I’m so open” from Golden because I think that is so larry coded (and so many more lyrics for this song but I tend to not dig into song analysis on here). But relation to those specific lyrics, Harry is extremely open with dancing with flags, being ambiguous about his sexuality, saying cheeky very not straight things on stage, wearing very non masculine outfits, and I think it’s a comment about louis being more scared about coming out than H. I mean, it’s a massive deal to come out in this industry, particularly in their positions with their history, but Harry is 3/4 of the way there and has been for a while now. And louis might be a little more frightened bc of his stunts, image, etc., he hasn’t kind of stepped away from that image as much as Harry has. Not to say louis isn’t fighting to come out, whatsoever, but it’s a very strong lyric and that’s how I take it. Anyway, that’s probably been talked about and analysed a bunch. But yeah, that’s definitely one of my fave lines.
I actually saw a theory not too long ago that Harry wrote Chicago for louis, too. Like… ages ago. Not recently. And the lyrics would kind of line up on that situation with bbg. And if you think about it, you can definitely see the story. Not sure how much I agree with that theory as it’s a bit far fetched, but was interesting. Idk.
And I know a multitude of Harry’s love songs are in fact a little on the heartbroken/sad side, but there are many that are uplifting and full of hope. Golden is the perfect example of that, in my opinion. It’s about fighting hard for it. And like “loving you’s the antidote”?????? Come on hahahaha.
But re Falling, yes, hugely larry coded. Like Harry asking who he is now that he’s solo with a huge image shift, and is it truly him? What if he’s someone louis cares about and deeply misses, but Harry gets the feeling he won’t need him because louis is embarking on his own journey and again, im sure there are deeper and better posts about this song, but yeah. Idk. Harry’s house certainly sounded more hopeful and a bit less depressing, for the most part hehe. I think things are fine between them, truly.
Anyway this turned into something entirely off topic now sorry about that hahahah but yes, I agree with you! Those lyrics scream to me that it’s about someone long term. I wrote a similar lyric years ago about one person, and so it’s truly powerful and resonates a lot.

I didn’t know who to send this to but I feel like you like a lyric analysis? It’s nothing deep, but the “silver streets and neon signs” line in change is definitely a nod to Doncaster - Silver Street is the name of the street in donny where most of the bars and clubs are. At least it used to be the main place to go out around the time Louis was a teenager. This is coming from someone who’s a similar age to him and from donny - silver street was the place to be! (No idea if it is anymore because I’m old and haven’t been to a club in years!!)
Hello, anon!
Whoa, thank you so much for sharing. This makes a lot of sense, I think every small town has one of those, it's so relatable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We’re still the kids on the Friday nights Silver streets and the neon signs Everything’s changed outside Sometimes I wonder why
I think it was easy to assume that was kind of what he meant, but I had no idea this could be the name of an actual street in Donny. I love this. I love the entire song, honestly. The lyrics and instrumentally, Louis has been giving us songs that feel so huge. Change has such a nostalgic feeling, filled with raw and honest lyrics, but yet somehow he made it sound so comforting. So relatable. I don't understand how Louis manages to do that but everything he does is so incredibly relatable.
I'm not sure if this was pointed out yet, but there's another very interesting parallel on this song which is "the kids are alright", so I'm just going to talk about it here too because I'm too lazy to make another post about it
The kids are alright That used to be me Always losing our minds Out on the street
I think everyone who grew up listening to the same kind of music Louis did, quickly recognized that. The Kids Are Alright is an anthem by The Who, a tribute to the Mods, and a britpop classic. There's also a documentary with the same name. I actually only got to know this song because of The Kids Aren't Alright by The Offspring (one of my favourite songs ever) in the 90s. And as you may realize by The Offspring lyrics, the expression "the kids are alright" is a way to describe young people who "made it" at a really young age.
Tumblr media
So it makes a lot of sense for someone like Louis Tomlinson, who was a millionaire and worldwide famous at the age of 20, to write this. Especially considering he did not have an easy childhood, he grew up in a working-class family. I really love how he reflects about him being that kid, and he certainly did it alright, but he is still the same person he was back in Donny, although everything is so different now with his fame, his money, his family....

Bengali Academia
Last time I made a compilation of some Indian Academia picks, most of which were works written in English. So I thought I'll put together a book rec list but this time the works are in Bengali as we have a very rich heritage and it's high time I promoted my own culture :) this list is subjective and contains entries compiled with the help of my family and friends. Please keep in mind that the Bengali literary canon is VAST and encompasses works from India and Bangladesh and I cannot possibly represent every single author I have ever read and loved.
Political:
Pather Dabi [transl: The Way of The Road] by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay: revolutionary secret society in colonial india!! an actually likeable hero!! splendid anti establishment bengali youths!! themes like untouchability, decolonisation and female empowerment!! I will rec this book until my absolute dying breathe, especially because the whites™ banned it.
Ghare Baire [transl: The Home and the World] by Rabindranath Tagore: explores complex paradoxes in the early phase of the national independence movement, like western "progressive" theory vs western imperialism, patriotism vs aggressive nationalism, and the double alienation of desi women by Britishers + their own society. raises very pertinent questions about forceful "emancipation" of women, very layered characters and gorgeous prose.
Char Adhyay [transl: Four Chapters] by Rabindranath Tagore: you can read this as either the star-crossed love story of revolutionaries Ela and Atin, or a scathing critique of militant nationalism, embodied by the brilliant, ruthless, manipulative rebel leader Indranath. or both. either way, a great portrayal of systematic brainwashing by extremist groups, though does get a tad bit angsty at times.
Kaalbela [transl: Doomsday] by Samaresh Majumdar: you know the drill. Naxalite movement. Bengal burning. Love in the times of communism and revolution and police raids. Fun stuff. If you loved Udayan and Gauri from The Lowland pls read this.
Hajar Churashir Maa [transl: 1084's Mother] by Mahasweta Devi: a harrowing exploration of 70s Naxalite Bengal, state brutality, and the cost of resistance as seen through the eyes of Sujata, a mother battling to piece together the events leading to the murder of her son, rebel Brati. this one is particularly devastating and can be triggering in the current political climate. but god, what a read.
Social:
Pather Panchali [transl: Song of the Road] by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay: if you haven't read the book, you have probably heard of the equally gorgeous movie. It's about a village on the far precincts of rural Bengal, it's about a brother and a sister and a family whose destinies keep pulling them apart and together, and it's about other things too, a field after a rainstorm, fresh mangoes, the gnaw of hunger and the kind of love that suffers.
Padma Nadir Majhi [transl: The Boatman on the River Padma] by Manik Bandopadhyay: an epistolary story about the lives of the impoverished fishermen community living in the Padma delta strip in Bangladesh, and a man ferrying relocated settlers to a utopian riverine island named Moynadip. The river acts almost as a sentient presence through this novel about class conflicts. I remember reading this in middle school, the prose is to die for. Also, Kuber, the main character is v.v. good I kind of love him.
Satyabati trilogy by Ashapurna Debi: *slams hands on table* INTERGENERATIONAL FEMALE RAGE!! mother and daughter and granddaughter battling the same oppressive fate!!! Feminist and anti brahmanical academia!! Women writing about women!!
Chokher Bali [transl: Eyesore] by Rabindranath Tagore: it's about two women- beautiful briliant widow Binodini and her sweet naive friend asha, and the way their stories spill into each other. sometimes privileged men write surprisingly good stories about women who are flawed, women who want things, women with ambition and love and tenderness and lust and regret and jealousy.
Srikanto by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay (#1): bisexual himbo spends entire adolescence pining after hot male best friend before growing up, doing drugs and getting reunited with a former flame who now works as a courtesan. Involved: a snake charmer, baggy pants, feverish dreams, ghosts on the river's edge, and this one line that keeps me awake all night and which I totally lost in translation: "sometimes the best kind of love bewitches. Other times, it simply dethrones you."
Devdas by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay: or as I like to call it childhood sweethearts Dev and Paro battles The Bengali Class Hierarchy and Third Degree Alcoholism while the courtesan Chandramukhi is busy being an unproblematic angel whom I love :) also pls don't watch the film it is kind of cringe idk
Aranyak [transl: Of the Forest] by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay: read the memo it's about forests. it's about a man enamoured by forests and it's about people whose lives are inextricably bound to the trees, for better and for worse. actually pretty sad, but the journey through that sadness is lovely.
Non fiction
Pakdondi by Leela Majumdar: whimsical, gentle memoir/travelogue about the author's childhood in Shillong and Calcutta. Think hill stations and winter flowers and soft sunshine. Has the wistful nostalgia of a Ghibli film. I love her writing sm.
Any work by Nabaneeta Deb Sen, particularly Truck Bahone McMahon [transl: On a Truck Alone to McMahon], which details her road trip to the North East Indian states in the humorous precision only she can bring. Her writing style blends factual and funny in the same vein as Ruskin Bond and I had a good time with this.
Deshe Bideshe [transl: In a Land Far from Home] by Syed Mujtaba Ali: an account of the author's two year stay in Kabul between 1927-29 when the country was going through sweeping reforms under the controversial reign of King Amanullah. It's a little glimpse into a system and a time not often documented in literature, and Ali's writing is a gem. you'll enjoy this is you enjoy Ruskin Bond and William Dalrymple.
Mythology/Retellings
Rajkahini [transl: Stories of Kings] by Abanindranath Tagore: another favourite, lyrical, descriptive, half magical half historical goodness, this collection of short stories centres around ancient Rajput dynasty folklore and mythical histories. The accompanying illustrations are equally beautiful.
Tagore's Nritya Natya (dance drama) series of plays which centre around folklore. Think royal intrigue, warrior princesses falling in love with gods and the plight of benevolent monks and "untouchable girls". I adore nritya natya because most bengali girls learn these plays and the leitmotif songs and stories growing up.
Shei Shomoye [transl: Those Days] by Sunil Gangopadhyay: written in Sunil's typical wistful lilt, it is a retelling of the life of Bengali satirist and playwright Hutum Pacha (aka kaliprasanna sinha) as well as several historical figures like Michael Madhusudan, Tagore etc. Recommended by my mutuals and followers alike.
Tungabhadrar Tire [transl: By the Tungabhadra] by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay: a fleet carries two princesses to vijaynagar where one of them is to wed the king as part of a political alliance. but of course things fall apart (as they always do) and you get a whole cocktail of torrid affairs and 14th century politics albeit the joy is tempered considerably by the author's very Quirky Misogyny and a certain degree of SLB-esque Islamophobia ://
Poetry
Shakti Chattopadhyay (themes: restlessness, nature, modernism, translated verses)
Kalyani Thakur Charal (social commentary, dalit representation, feminism)
Rabindranath Tagore (mysticism, pastoralism, time)
Jibanananda Das (speculative, modernism, existentialism)
Michael Madhusudan Dutta (epic poetry, nature, sonnets)
Kazi Nazrul Islam (patriotic, anti colonial, social commentary......an icon ahead of his time.....king™)
Self indulgent recs
Abol Tabol by Sukumar Ray is one of those priceless books of nonsense/satire poetry rendered second grade in translation, I'm afraid. If you can, read the Bengali version. In fact, read any of Sukumar Ray's works, it's like taking an acid trip with Hayao Miyazaki and Louis Caroll, icon really created That Rich A Bibliography™ in his unfairly short life :') it's funny, it's unsettling, it's ridiculous, it's savage.
Professor Shonku series by Satyajit Ray: this sci-fi/thriller collection is written in the format of a long-lost journal, detailing the colourful and sometimes genuinely creepy adventures of whimsical old scientist Trilokeshwar Shonku. The professor is aided on his trips by faithful and benevolently dumb attendant Prohlad and his cat Newton. This series is so ridiculous and inventive and good, Ray's writing is so readable and the accompanying illustrations are charming AF. A nostalgic fave.
Feluda series by Satyajit Ray: you've partaken of bengali culture, you have studied museums and archives and watched documentaries. But did you read feluda? No? Not a very successful cultural integration then, was it?
Podi Pishir Bormi Baksho (transl: The Burmese Box of Aunt Podi) by Leela Majumdar: one eventful night, the Burmese treasure chest of a formidable bengali matriarch is stolen, spawning generations of hatred, bloodshed and betrayal. PEAK comedy gold. every time I reread this book it leaves me in hysterics.
Byomkesh series by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay: rounding off this list with my favourite dark academia detective boy, byomkesh is very well written and very likeable and very aesthetiqué if you are looking for crimes and felony and the seven deadly sins in the heart of colonial and post-partition calcutta. if you like Poirot, you will love this series, particularly the earlier stories.
This list is definitely not comprehensive! For logistical purposes, I was unable to add Tagore's entire Body of Work©, or ALL of Nazrul's poems....else we'd be here a few days. There are many, many names and titles missing. My list is limited by my own reading experience and the books I know from recommendations. However, I just wanted to make this list for a long time as I rarely see Bengali literature hyped on tumblr. Feel free to add more!

I know you're doing something similar with the character aesthetics (which are awesome, by the way!!!), but could you find a song that best describes each kid? and possibly an explanation on why did you chose that? Thanks, and I love your blog, soooo glad you continued it *-*
Hahaha it’s funny you should say/ask that…
A few months ago, I decided to turn two scrapbooks I hadinto pages for the next generation (and then their kids, and then the kidsafter that) and there were some leftover pages so I’m doing some for some bookcharacters or Teen Wolf characters or whatever. Anyway, each kid had a doublepage, and the pages were covered in relevant paper (e.g. Victoire is pink andflowery, Hugo is very geometric, Rose has a lot of patches in a navy colourbecause she constantly wears denim) and then I made those moodboards to go onthe page, and also printed out some aesthetic-y quotes and badges and stufftoo. Then I’ll decorate it with washi tape and embellishments to make it 3D.Why I’m saying this is because over the top of each page, around thepictures/quotes/embellishments, I chose a song for each kid to write on thepage. I only posted the moodboards for this generation here because after Iprinted them off I realised that they were relevant to this blog so might be aninteresting side-project thing to run.
So yeah, that’s why I made them, so it’s funny you askedabout songs because I have that info ready to hand ;) Also I’m glad you likethem! Thank you so much for your kind words
Ted: Therapy –All Time Low. The line “arrogant boy, love yourself so no one has to” remindsme of Ted a lot because he thinks he doesn’t need romance in his life and heshuts down that side of himself for so long, and it’s a bit arrogant. The restof the lyrics suit his personality, too. Also Figure Me Out – The Summer Set,because that’s a situation Ted would be in, but that’s more of a day-to-daything than an aesthetic personality song
Victoire:Paradise – Coldplay. This has been her song in my mind for maybe five yearslol. Her head is such a hard place to be in sometimes, because she doubts everymove she makes and is so insecure about loving Ted, her best friend, whodoesn’t notice. So part of it is wishing for paradise with Ted and part of itis wishing for paradise/peace in her head. Literally every time she closes hereyes
Dominique: Can’tPin Me Down – Marina and the Diamonds. She’s different versions of herself toso many people: growing up, she has an eating disorder and is the quiet, bookish sibling; she’s a sunshine to her siblings; she’s crazy and fun withRose and Lily; she’s a badass and invincible to James; she’s stuck-up and coldin the opinion of people who don’t know her. Also, this sounds weird, but thetune reminds me of her – it’s not slow and soft, but it’s not super upbeat, either; it’s this unique blend. And it has the “time to back off, motherfucker”line in which is one of my fave uses of a swear word in a song lol because it’sjust there to prove a point and drive home the line, not to be vulgar or takeaway from the song
Louis: Good Life– OneRepublic. I remember the first time I heard this song and I was incrediblyanxious and stressed, but hearing it calmed me down and appreciate what I had.And that’s Louis. He’s content with who he is and where he’s at; he nevercomplains; he thinks every day is this beautiful gift and he’s so happy tospend it loving people and making the most of it. He has the happiest lifepossible because he’s loving and grateful and a pure soul
James: Either OneNight – The Summer Set or Boys Don’t Cry – The Cure. The latter because if youignore the fact it’s about a relationship, it’s very much how James acts. He’safraid/ashamed to apologise for what he does because he has this massive shieldbetween how he’s portrayed and his emotions. He acts invincible and cocky butinside he’s actually incredibly insecure. It’s kind of like he doesn’t want toappear weak so he forces himself to overplay some aspects of his personalityand downplay others. One Night because it’s the same sort of theme –self-discovery and being aware that not all of yourself is necessarily what youwant it to be
Albus: Girls/FastCars – The Wombats. The lyrics are him completely. At first, he’s the dorkyPotter who’s too sensible for his own good, but as soon as he starts histeenage years at Hogwarts his personality develops a lot, and he’s lazy, funnyin his own way, ends up with a long-time girlfriend who’s one of the prettiestgirls in school, confident, playful with Rose… I don’t really know how todescribe him outside my head, but he’s still this understated guy, he’s justmaking the most of it and is enjoyable to be around. So the whole “and what Ifeel is what I say, I’m not trying to be smart” is very him, but then the vibeof the song is him as well – I don’t know how to explain it, but if he were atune, he’d be that tune
Lily: Girl onFire – Alicia Keys. Lily’s stubborn and fiery and fearless, but she also hasnormal worries that anyone in her place would have – she doesn’t know what shewants to do after Hogwarts, sometimes she feels a pull away from theJames-esque side to her and towards kinder, softer traits that she holds; she’sunreal in a way because she’s unapologetically herself and the most fearlessperson anyone knows, but she’s also very real because she’s aware of the worldshe’s in and how her actions affect other people. For example, she makes fun ofHugo a lot growing up, because it’s funny and they’re best friends so itdoesn’t matter, but afterwards she knows that she may have taken it too far
Rose: Angel ToYou (Devil To Me) – The Click Five. It’s a very Rose song lol. Half of her is asweet, motherly, dorky person, and the other half throws the craziest partiesand loves getting drunk and kissing boys. So it sums up both sides of herpersonality – the day side, which her parents know and which gets her highgrades and a good reputation, and the night side, which makes her an incrediblywild and fun person to be around and makes her irresistible to some boys.Lorcan would never hook up with her (he says), because she’s good friends withJames, who’s one of Lorcan’s bros, so it’s kind of incest in his book (lol) buthe has a lot of respect for her for being who she is and pulling it off. She’snot faking, because she is kind and motherly, but she also values having fun,too
Hugo: Johnny Boy– Twenty One Pilots. Mainly because of the verse “no one really knows his mindetc etc never really won a prize before”. He doesn’t struggle with life oranything, but he gets angry at Lily easily growing up and they fight a lot, andhe hated that she got Prefect and he didn’t, when he was the one revising forhis OWLs in second year and Lily was too busy pulling pranks with James. So hehas to sort that mess in his head out and that’s why this song reminds me ofhim
Molly: One Girl Revolution– Superchick. Honestly … Molly exhausts me because I was like this a year ortwo ago. She has NO time for anything because she’s so bloody busy beingperfect – she’s Head Girl, obsessed with Quidditch, studying constantly … she’salways pushing herself to be better and is incredibly ambitious. That’s not allof who she is; she has a beautiful friendship with Victoire and she’sincredibly soft and compassionate, but she’s this walking revolution and is the“girl who gets shit done”. It’s a bit lonely, but she’s too busy to notice, andshe does have friends. I should probably ease up on her a bit lol
Lucy: Far Far –Yael Naim. The whole song is Lucy. She’s desperate to make her mark on theworld and prove herself, but she’s trapped as the youngest Weasley and isunderestimated every day of her young life. She’s also incredibly creative, sothis song represents her dreamy, imaginative side and how she always wishes forsomething more and channels that desperation into writing or painting orphotography with Victoire, or even trying harder at things like Quidditch. Thissong is the hidden soul inside of her that no one sees until she’s aroundseventeen
Fred: Shake ItOff – Taylor Swift. Because that’s what he does. People say what they likeabout him, but he’s true to himself and doesn’t let it faze him. Teachers tellhim off for messing around in class – doesn’t bother him. He doesn’t date muchat Hogwarts – does he care? No. People’s opinions wash right over his head. Helikes what he likes and he does what he does and if you don’t like it, that’syour issue and your business, but don’t bother telling him because it’s notlike he’s gonna change. Most people actually respect him for that and it makeshim a really easy guy to get along with. He won’t take things personally orblow things out of proportion – he’s just gonna shake, shake, shake it off
Roxanne: Run theWorld – Beyonce. Classic girl power anthem, and Roxanne runs the world betterthan anyone. She has no time for boys or romance; she does what she wants andno one ever criticises her because they know she literally does not give asingle damn. She plays cheesy 90s boyband songs in the common room; she owns itand so other people start to enjoy it. She doesn’t care about school and neverstudies, and yet she and her brother get straight O-grades in all of theirexams. How? No one knows. She’s untouchable. She also ends up richer than allthe other next generation kids put together because of her amazing eye forbusiness; she takes Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes global and tunes out critics whosay it won’t work – because it does. Also the song She’s a Genius – Jet, mainlydue to the line “Oh, hey there girl, tell me what do you do?” “Nothing, but I’mdamn sure it’s more than you.” That’s Roxanne
Lorcan: Homewrecker– Marina and the Diamonds. This song is from a girl’s perspective but naturallythe pronouns are switched for Lorcan. He breaks a million hearts just for funand enjoys doing it. He obviously has more to his personality – bigger aims, insecurities, etc – but until he graduates Hogwarts his main aim in life seemsto be to play as many girls as possible. It’s a hobby. For the longest time heis only happy when he’s on the run, until he leaves Hogwarts and grows up veryquickly in a very short space of time. But until then – why not have fun datinggirls and getting away with breaking hearts while you can?
Lysander: TheScientist – Coldplay. This song actually was the basis for a really bigLily/Lysander fanfiction I wrote/still need to finish which is in the form oftheir penpal letters throughout the years. I think that although it’s arelationship song and not a personal one, it shows off Lysander’s personality, too. He’s the quiet one in his gang – he likes going to the library, doesn’treally join in on James and co.’s pranks, Prefect … he’s the voice of reason, and he doesn’t start to lighten up for a while. He enjoys a joke, of course, but he’s not confident enough to make any all the way up until seventh year. His world is almost clinical but from fourth/fifth year onwards his heartstarts to become a bigger thing in his life – imo the line “questions ofscience and progress do not speak as loud as my heart” really applies to him
Scorpius: TheLightning Strike: The Sunlight Through the Flags – Snow Patrol. The song isreally long and made up of three sub-songs, but the second one is the one whichapplies to him. The lyrics are calm in a way, like him, but they speak ofrepairing yourself and making up for mistakes in his case. “These accidents offaith and nature” verse sums him up because he’s born into a family which hasmade a LOT of mistakes, and he’s nothing like that, so he has to find thisbalance between loving his family, because he does, and staying genuine to thedecent person that he is. It’s also kind of about his siblings – he assumes hehas none (because he’s an only child), but he ends up with a really big familycollected over the years: Ted’s basically his cousin and with him comes lovelyVictoire; Lily and Rose, although he dated them in his second/third year, endup as close as sisters to him; James, despite a very rocky start duringHogwarts, has his back and becomes a brother to him when they’re partnered forAuror missions. The Wotter and Scamander kids are crazy but they’re his. MrsWeasley sees him fiercely as her own as much as she did Harry, and Mr Weasleygets so excited when he hears that Scorpius is visiting. Andromeda has thebiggest amount of love for him. Astoria and Draco would give the world up fortheir son. So it’s like – you think you’re alone, but breathe … relax … you’resafe here with friends. You’re fine

fine line review
oh my goooood i just finished listening to the album and i NEED to express my thoughts:
golden: didn’t know what to expect with this one but it’s?? so beautiful?? harry was so right saying it was a driving song it makes you want to go to california and watch the sunset from the car?? also the sun theme is so poetic and beautiful the way he uses it to talk about louis, his beloved?? the melody is quite simple but it’s so effective and these little da da da sounds the choir make in the background...heavenly. this part reminds me of another song but i can’t remember which one. what i love about this one is that it’s first time i’ve listened the lyrics seemed a quite sad (but riddled with hope still) and now the second time the meaning changed totally?? like it’s witchcraft how much the meaning can change once you look at the lyrics closely?? i know harry was talking about adore you when speaking about that feeling of bliss when you first meet the love of your life and fall completely but this is also what golden is about?? like being afraid but diving deep into it knowing this is right. i’m emo. in terms of vocals, it isn’t as BOOM as in other songs (in the sense that he’s not belting, using falsetto or a very low intonation that differs from his usual tone) but i love it!!! it’s very calm and peaceful and dreamy.
watermelon sugar: miss watermelon sugar is still as iconic as the first day she came out. it’s such a wonderful tune. my impressions on this song will never change and i will listen to it for another 30 times round without even hesitating. it just feels very summery and sensual and sexy without being too explicit (even though there is nothing wrong with being super explicit...see medicine). the chorus is just super catchy. the lyrics are so nice and i love the melody. very old pop and i’m a slut for this genre. also i know this has been HUGELY talked about before but i need to say it again. the way he’s saying belly!! the softness of the breathe me in/breathe me out parts!! the last watermelon sugar i don’t know why i’m obsessed it JUST SLAPS
adore you: oh darling. a treasure. 8 days ago, first time i’ve heard it, it took me by surprise because i wasn’t expecting that sound...but six seconds in and i was SOLD and already cherishing her with all of my heart. this song is JUST PERFECT. it’s probably the song that is the closest to 1D mixed with HS1 in terms of sound, like it’s super modern but at the same time has these very old school vibes i’m in LOVE WITH?? this is such a sweet joyful sappy song about his soulmate and i :’) also the rainbow paradise line i haven’t recovered from  bitches. i will never. this is such a certain and blatant declaration of love i wanna die!! i feel acknowledged as a romantic bitch who lives for this kind of grand gestures. thanks harry. also during some parts he sounds like old harry (i mean harry from 1d days) and then 2019 harry takes over and it makes me CRY
lights up: the first single and song from the era will always a soft soft in my heart. i listened to the track so many fucking times the words are tattooed onto my brain. this song was just so needed and so important. it’s so deep and means everything to me really. all of us wanted a song from him about identity and self discovery and lights up was the gift he gave us. never in my life i would have have dreamed of this song and it happened for real. i’m just so grateful. his voice in this is just so soft and delicate and so fitting for the song like it DEMANDS that tenderness and sweetness. also the choir gives me chills, like when they scream SHINE i just feel overwhelmed it’s!!! fuck!! i could write an essay about lights up because this song is just it. it makes you feel seen and understood and i just feel so lucky harry was able to share something as intimate as this.
cherry: lmaoooo. this one will be a skipper sorry. it’s far from being a bad piece because harry’s voice is always amazing but i can’t get over the voicemail. when the news came out i was just so appealed and angry but know i’m just cackling?? i’m french and what is this slander?? THE COUCOU AT THE BEGINNING IS RIDICULOUS!! and the ending sounds so rehearsed there is literally nothing naturel about it. thank god we hear harry’s laugh in it. I JUST KNOW it was added because there is no way he would have laughed irl at one of her jokes lol. lyrically you can see some parts were put there to make an allusion to the stunt (the accent & friends part, the gallery...) but others are just about louis?? like him being jealous of course it’s about the hubby. his voice is still beautiful but the melody doesn’t speak to me (and i would have telled you if it was the case) being objective, it’s the weakest one out of the album.
falling: OH MY FUCKING GOOOOD. i wanna say it’s my favorite song but i feel like it would diminish the love i have for the others but god...this song is breathtaking and out of this world. in terms of lyrics it’s the best HANDS DOWN. like period. fuck this song just BROKE ME. all that ache and heartbreak you get what he’s talking about when he said to zane lowe he hit rock bottom then. fucking hell. it just hurts knowing he hated himself that much like i can’t even fathom it. and his voice bloody hell?? i never heard him sing like that!!! it’s just so desperate and full of hurt and the high notes? please annihilate me. when i heard it i would at first sight i would be my favorite out of fine line. it was just so obvious. that kind of magic doesn’t happen a lot...like. i can’t pinpoint what part hurts me the most because the whole song is TORTURTING ME. when we’ll hear live i will be bawling for the rest of my life. i’m already am. my god it’s just so raw and honest no other artist can make me feel like that. you are experiencing the hurt with him it’s??? i have no words. and please this song makes no fucking sense if you don’t link to his relationship to louis like?? the i’m well aware i write too many songs about you?? hello??? i’m glad he doesn’t feel like that anymore because it hurts. it’s crazy how this song can pull you back to ancient memories and you just forget about the world. oh my god.
to be so lonely: i almost fell out of my chair (or bed, rather) because this song did not fit at all what i was expecting but it’s?? gold??? i was so sure it was going to be a full angsty ballad but it’s so catchy and it has those beatles vibe? like PLEASE. king of defying expectations. it’s so english. and it’s so smart because when the melody and rythm makes you think it’s gonna be corny (in the best sense of the word) but it’s kinda passive agressive? AND ALSO THE SWEARING. DON’T, STYLES. UR MY SON. i’m kidding. him hearing him say arrogant son of a bitch is THE PINNACLE of my life. also am i the only one that feels like if you change the beat a little and accelerate it on don’t call me baby ever again it would sound a bit like never enough? loved the throwback nonetheless. it isn’t a favorite yet but it’s already growing on me.
she: bloody fucking hell. first this song is timeless. it feels like it came straight (gay!!!) from the seventies. i had eagles vibes first listen but some said pink floyd and it’s SO TRUE. there are tons of rock influences in it but it’s so harry and manages to still be super unique?? just incredible. the writing of the song is the smartest out of HS2. it reminds me of woman (not in the way i was expecting...i had one supposition it was going to be about being envious of a woman while dumb people are tricked by the title) so much not in melody or lyrics at all but in the sense that it has a double (triple...and more) meanings. once again stupid hets think it’s about singing about the ideal girl when really it’s...on another plane of existence. like jesus. bitch i was right!!! it’s either a song on gender identity (harry singing about his feminine side that he was ashamed of for so long and tried to hide) or the closet and my god, the whole thing is just so clever.  A MASTERMIND. and the switch from the third person to the third KEATS you’ve been beaten. what a writer. it has thousands of interpretations this is just a trip. holy shit. the whole song carries so much guilt and repression and wishing be free of those feelings it’s?? i’m speechless. it’s so complex and intense. and fuck the guitar solo outro IS HISTORIC. in decades it will be praised as a masterpiece by all. i just know it. mitch you’re a genius. it gives just so much resonance and impact to the piece and it already had everything... i’m in heaven. or in hell. don’t know.
sunflower vol 6; cutest and weirdest song on earth and it’s A FAVE. it’s so colorful and nothing like he ever did before i’m living for it. it’s SAPPY AS FUCK and we stan sunflower in this house. also the part where he’s singing about wanting to kiss his lover kinda sounds like a lullaby and an alphabet song mixed together it’s ADORABLE!!! it’s such a being young and in love track i’m giggling!! it’s so precious!!! very poppy and gives you joy for days!! also super summery!! i wanna dance and twirl to it!! AND THE ENDING IS SO FUCKING LEGENDARY. BIG HIGH ON CRACK ENERGY. BITCH. it’s so uncanny like is he imitating a bird? calling someone?? trying to sound 5? i don’t know but it’s endearing. just so lovely.
canyon moon: another one i was expecting to be slow and it wasn’t. very country. thanks kacey for the input!! also him putting “jenny” in that sound is he trying to be adopted by dixie chicks and dolly parton? I LOVE that he’s trying new things with this track like country is such a hard genre to tackle and he nailed it. AND OH MY GOD THE LYRICS. it makes so emotional he’s literally creating a safe place for him and his darling?? could you be more in love?? this song belongs to the gays. san junipero without the angsty feelings. we deserved that. also he really mentioned the two weeks rule i’m weak. THIS IS INFURIATING.
treat people with kindness: the group part just sounds like a sitcom from the 80s. i’m dying. he really did that. and he named it like that :’) ALSO A GAY ANTHEM I CAN’T WAIT TO SCREAM THOSE LYRICS. big end of the days vibe. it’s just so healing and reassuring. it’s so empowering and i love the contrast between the very catchy happy bits (the high notes and the part where he kinda talks at the end reminded so much of mika which is a huge compliment as far as i’m concerned!!!) and that part where he’s singing very slow and soft you can see it’s very personal with him gaining confidence thanks to us during hslot <3 i’m dying this is such an exceptional gesture to like dedicate this to your fans? it’s so universal while being about his own journey (just like home..i’m sobbing) and that is like the mark of great music. also the instrumental is godsent.
fine line: i can see why it’s his favorite and why it is ending the album and giving it its name. i said falling was my fave but honestly fine line might be it too? the only difference is that i didn’t fall in love instantly, it takes time to escalate (it’s very similar to sott in that sense) beginning softly and almost whispered (also the high tone?? i almost didn’t recognized harry but at the same time it’s just 100% percent him but HE NEVER SANG in THAT TONE i’m!!! my jaw is dropping all the way to mars) like you can see it BUILDING to something superior and never made before... it’s a moment, it’s an experience, it just suspends time. like when music can do that for you...it’s infinite stuck in a few minutes. the two last minutes are purely angelic and the most beautiful thing i’ve ever heard. it has very few lines and words but the one there are so meaningful. when the song ended i just stayed a bit in silence without moving i could not believed what i just witnessed. and the album ending with we’ll be alright...it’s so fucking special. and that word doesn’t even give it justice.
fucK. this album is just...i’m trying to find words but how can you. when you make an album as ambitious and as outstanding as HS1 it’s hard to go back to the studio and find a way to equate it (i’m not saying top it because both can’t even be compared...) but he somehow did it?? i had no doubt but holy shit it’s unreal. it’s crazy because fine line is so different from the first one while being as rock and pop but there is a level of maturity and vulnerability that feels just so? different?? i can’t seem to find the right expression but i’m am purely in awe. i dk how harry finds a way to exceed my expectations every time like... it’s?? i’m sorry i’m just so moved and... it just means everything.
two years and a half after and the feeling is the same. an album changing me and my life at first listen and 48 minutes that felt like a lifetime and a second at the same time.
