I can actually see Malik working in retail in a classy clothing store. But only as a “last option.” As the pretentious little bitch that he is, he’d actually be the type to aim in what is generally seen as a “higher option” in the working environment. I can see him wanting to do a job where he gets to feel important, like an office job for example. Whether it’s just as a secretary or an accountant, i can see him working in more “conservative” places, where he can put on a neat suit and walk around feeling classy and bossy, or feel a sense of accomplishment by communicating with customers in polite ways and telling them what to do 💆‍♀️ But if his choices are narrowed down i can picture him working in a clothing store as well. But that’s like the only retail he’d work in, otherwise he’d feel far too “above it all”. It’s like his last option because, pretentious as he is, he wouldn’t enjoy a job where he has to “serve” people in any way - and that also includes packing their clothes in a bag behind a cash register.

Bakura, on the other hand, is much more laid back with that like,,,,, he doesn’t give a fuck as long as he gets money sgsjhs If it was up to him he wouldn’t be working at all. He’d survive by just stealing what’s necessary to live (but ofc that would be impossible - unfortunately for him). Like, less communication with people and more manual labour is what he’d pick. I can even see him working in really “easy jobs” (also because it’s easier for him to adapt as a human in society after having been a spirit for so long) like for a fast food chain or delivering the mail or even just as a dishwasher. You know... working in places where he might even get the chance to steal something >.> (i might draw him in working clothes one day 🤔 the idea really amuses me)

Now, coming to your post-work relaxing HCs:

When Malik comes home after a hard day’s work I can totally picture him complaining. And like, a lot. He wants Bakura’s full attention and he wants him to listen so he can talk and talk and complain and lament how everyone is wrong and he is right. Yk at the end of the day, he is no boss or CEO in the office or whatever working place he chooses (unless he really builds his way up but that would take a lot of time) and that in itself frustrates him. No matter how much he can keep up the illusion of being the one who orders his colleagues around, as a matter of fact he isn’t. He also has superiors to listen to and he has to collaborate with others and, because of all of his complexities and issues he had growing up, he'd low-key feel humiliated by something so mediocre. So, as soon as he gets home he has to let it all out and complain about everyone. He mostly overdoes it in his stories tho’ and is quite the drama queen for even just minor things that didn’t go as he planned at work...

Bakura kind of sees through all of this, ofc, but he’s totally here for Malik in these moments. He gives him his full attention and nods and agrees to whatever Malik says, even if he knows he’s being a tiny bit extra with his tales. But he knows Malik needs his attention and a lot of praise and reminders of how good he is. Most of all in these moments. So he complies ofc to please his distressed boyfriend.

(kinda angsty HCs:) When his working day goes really bad, there are even moments where Malik would take out his whole anger on Bakura and start accusing him of being the problem (shameless self-promo: kind of like in the beginning of my fic here) . And it’s in these moments where Bakura stops with all the sympathetic demeanour and actually fights back. Because enough is enough, and Malik has a tendency to go too far with his words and his insults at times. But even if they end up arguing it’s a coping mechanism for Malik as well to let out some of that pent up rage he’s been feeling all day. And with Bakura actually fighting back instead of just caving in, Malik gets a low-key unhealthy sense of high/satisfaction too: One, because he has Bakura’s full attention that way, and two, because he longs for that kind of conflict. He’d even go as far as provoking Bakura on purpose to rile him up and get him to direct his whole anger back at him. And Bakura never fails to put him back in his place so Malik gets exactly what he wants at the end of the day. Yes this would also lead to a lot of steamy fucking but i‘m trying to keep these HCs sfw and it’s really hard with these two sdfghjkIn Whatever their way, they make up for it at the end of the day anyway and it’s like nothing happened once the stress leaves them so, no worries.

When Bakura comes home after a hard day‘s work he hates everything. But more in a grumpy/don‘t-talk-to-me kind of way. Unlike Malik, he won‘t be complaining about his job because he doesn‘t want to waste another second thinking about it now that it‘s his free time. He won’t be mentioning the “W” from work unless it’s totally necessary. As soon as he’s done working, he wants to pretend it doesn‘t even exist and like, use every second out of work for his own personal benefit. Being a thief/cheater of rules in life, he always makes sure to do as little duty as possible and he would even be the type to falsely call in sick and do stuff like that to not work. ANYWAY (sorry for digressing) once he leaves work he wants to make the best of his time and as soon as he enters home he‘d throw himself on the sofa and take his favourite drink (beer) and make sure he‘s as relaxed as possible. He‘s also particularly needy to have Malik on his lap in these moments and would love for him to just stay close to him and cuddle and caress and touch him. Ideally he’d want Malik to be his perfect nice malewife in such moments and when Malik is in the right mood he even complies - he’d do anything to hear more praise from Bakura over how good and perfect he is and would even prepare him a nice non-vegetarian meal just to please his boyfriend.

Unlike Malik, Bakura would love to have less conflict possible in his post-work moments and craves to touch and just have Makik all to himself in his arms. But if Malik happens to be in the wrong mood as well and kind of neglects Bakura in these moments, Bakura could become petty enough to scowl and brood away for eternity. He’d be low-key/indirectly demanding that Malik makes up for it later on. And this would lead to nsfw hcs as well sfjhdj sorry Malik would be like “hey what’s up?” and Bakura would just grumble with his arms crossed and looking away. Malik would have to tip-toe his way slowly in to not let him be moody and disappointed for the rest of the day, calling him “Habibi” or “Bakura-sama” (since he adressea himself with ore-sama so gladly) to soften him up, until Bakura can’t help but let a smile form on his lips and they would end up cuddling and fucking ofc and everything is fine once again.

Idk i just really like them exactly because they seem to clash for being so different but they always find a way (sappy as it sounds) to be perfect for each other at the end <33

No one ever asked about Operation Bummer, which I really only like for the name tbh. It's a blues story. BubsxBoomer = Bummer. get it?? listen, it's funny, okay? trust me. it should be their pairing name but not one ever listens to me 🙄

Okay, so let me set the stage:

Bloss: she's home for the summer :( and she doesn't want to be. She's going into her sophomore year of undergrad somewhere on the east coast, and like most almost sophomores from prestigious schools, she thinks she knows everything.

Bubbles: studying to be a Spanish teacher! Also a sophomore, but going to TownU in Townsville. Has a huge huge huge crush on her Spanish partner Pablo, but he breaks her heart early on, and she's taking it out on every guy she knows.

Butters: not in college. Didn't know what to do with her life, so she just stayed home. Acting super sus. And now constantly smells like cupcakes (??) as opposed to sweat and dirt. (She's still bloody tho?) Idk it's just sus. She's also making *~pancakes~* more often!

Brick: "it's summertime, I've got my hat on backward, and it's time to party." (low-key high-key excited that Bloss is back for the summer because things were getting way too boring in Townsville without her to mess with)

Butch: Coming home every morning bruised, bloody, and PISSED. which isn't too abnormal, but he's not making them ~*waffles*~ anymore :/

Boomer: would like to make out with someone. is not making out with someone. horny.

The Quick and Dirty Plot Rundown:

the girls and the boys don't get along at all

the greens are in a suspiciously good mood until one day they're not

this affects both Blossom and Brick, respectively, because they've gotten quite used to their green sibling cooperating to their ever whim.

Separately, Bloss confronts Bubs, and Brick confronts Boomer. The reds are like "OMG somethings totally absolutely utterly wrong with [insert green sibling]. Aren't they acting totally strange???

the blues are both like lol no? [insert green sibling] is always grumpy. it was actually more weird that they were so uncharacteristically happy???

the red, respectively, are like, uh no [insert blue sibling], you are most definitely wrong. we need to investigate.

the blues and the reds end up figuring out that both the green siblings were acting weird through so happenstance--I'm thinking like a cheesy fight, where the greens don't allow their red siblings to blow a bunch of hot air and waste everyone's time. The reds are highly offended by this sentiment and start bitching about their siblings.

the reds somehow (in all their superior wisdom and intellect /s) are like "OMG wait! They must have been banging!" (Blossom doesn't say banging tho, that's Brick).

the blues are like uh no????????????????? they most definitely weren't.

the reds are like lol you two are so cute they definitely were, secretly because they thought we'd be mad, and then they broke up, and now they're fighting like exes, and this doesn't benefit us anymore because no one's making pancakes/waffles in the morning, and the reason breakfast isn't happening is because they're so upset about the break-up. (Brick really really hits the waffle thing and everyone ends up being like OK dude we GET it. and again, he's like no you don't.)

Blues are like srsly guys this is a real stretch

reds are like lmao shut up we're getting them back together. (it's also hinted that the reds are a little bored)

so the reds make up all these crazy schemes to get the greens together again and force the blues to execute the plans! Why the blues? well, the reds obviously can't execute the plans because as Brick states, "coaches don't play." Anyhow, the reds are too busy trying to one-up each other to honestly care if their plans work.

And because they honestly don't care, the plans keep backfiring.

for real, the greens don't like each other so ofc the plans aren't working on them. You wanna know who the plans are working on tho???

the blues.

the plans are going so horribly wrong that the blues bond over how pointless the project is. Boomer's like, "why am I the dumb one again?" and Bubbles like, "lmao dude mood." And then as time progresses, they start to have fun with it.

during the "dinner and a movie," they initiate a popcorn fight in the middle of a cheesy romcom

during the "whoa did I just randomly run into you at the mall?? Plan," they have fun trying to outdo each other at the shitty arcade games.

At the carnival, they stuff their faces with concession stand food and ride all the rides until they get sick (and end up holding hands on the Ferris wheel "accidentally")

you can see where this is going right? A bunch of cute dates where the blues learn the importance of "not judging a book by its cover" and "listen you wanted to make out with someone, it might as well be your sworn enemy, they're not doing anything important today anyway."

I'm so gross, I literally plan a "seven minutes in heaven" scene just because I can.

Sorry, I digress.

Obviously, the blues are getting cozy, the reds are fighting, and the greens are getting hella suspicious. Rather simultaneously, the greens corner their respective blues and (in boomer's case) beat the info out of them.

The reds "brilliant" idea unravels fast. Turns out, Butch was pissy because he was having trouble beating this new guy that just randomly popped up in the underground fighting ring he was participating in

buttercup is pissy because she's trying to keep the little bakery she secretly works part-time at open by making a extra cash on the side. To do so she started participating in this underground fighting ring, and Butch is getting a little too close for comfort in terms of discovering her true identity. She also has an inconsistent sleep schedule and it's making her a little nutty.

things go back to "normal"

Shockingly, the reds are wrong again.

The blues are heartbroken. They don't get to go out on their "dates" anymore, they don't get to have fun anymore, and most importantly, there's no more making out :((((

The greens--incredibly astute for a bunch of dumb angry jocks--put two and two together fast, and are like, "oh fuck off for real?? We're seriously doing this?? We're seriously going to play matchmaker??"

they both agree no no they'll absolutely not do that! Not at all! No way! No freakin--oh no is [insert blue sibling] crying?

So, ANYWAY, boom! Operation Bummer is in full swing all over again. The greens put aside their differences to help their favorite blue siblings because there's nothing worse than seeing a blue sibling pout.

The greens are definitely like "this is really going to make our strictly working relationships so weird, but whatever, if they break up, then things just go back to normal anyway."

They threaten the reds :) confront the blues :) get them back together so they'll finally stop crying :) tentatively smooth things over with their parental figures :) and then, when peace is finally achieved, the greens go right back to fighting each other like HIM intended :)

(but ya know, after everything they've been through, maybe now when they fight, they avoid punching each other in the face. it doesn't mean anything. it isn't like they like each other or anything. that would be soooo stupid...lol unless--)

general clan culture notes

so as it turns out, you can't exactly develop culture without developing culture. that is to say, it turns out, as i work on the worldbuilding, my clans have developed their own flair, and i wanted to talk about that.

i'm a good a posteriori world builder. i can turn what is and was into something knew with relative ease. that does mean, whoever, that parts of what is get changed.

so without further ado, here are some of the guiding ideas i use for developing the clans for wing & feather.

section one: honor

god i hate; okay, i use honor a lot, especially in "names. leaders. meaning." and it was while editing that post i realized i've kind of...changed the meaning of it. it's a little subtle, but it's there.

at some point, i started using honor to mean "everything associated with something" here's an excerpt that shows what i mean:

they are chosen to honor the kit and the name. silverkit, out of love for trinkets, hoping their daughter would feel loved. graykit, hoping for a peaceful life, like still water. featherkit for a half-thunderclan kit, that they would not forget their blood, even though they would be raised riverclan.

(names. leaders. meaning.)

the idea here is basically, well, riverclan's whole thing is about a constant structure and ever changing details, but we'll get into that. but here, i'm using honor to mean just having a meaning beyond the visual appearance of a kit. later i go on to talk about stormkit, and how any kit named storm after him would have a new meaning.

and i'm sure i'm doing this subtle switch with other concepts but i haven't noticed it yet.

secton two: skyclan

skyclan comes last in most of my posts so this time it comes first. that's because it's kind of doing its own thing. i include it in world building posts for completionism, and because i have a soft spot for leafstar.

so old skyclan is whatever. they're kind of thunderclan/riverclan hybrids in terms of culture. they were always kind of chill. i don't care about them, because as a narrative, skyclan is only good as new skyclan.

new skyclan is about resilence, adaptability, and unity. they follow tradition because it binds them together, and binding them together makes them strong, not because they should follow tradition or anything of the sort.

mostly, though, they're a new group, that by some miracle has remained together. i don't have a ton to say for them here, because the rest of this is more about drawing comparisons between clans, and i've specifically said, "no, skyclan doesn't count. skyclan's whole thing is being unique because that's what makes them them."

section three: alignment chart

so i have this alignment chart and i'm ngl, it doesn't make sense, but i'll try to explain it.

the first axis is spiritual/physical and the second is practical/traditional. these aren't contrasting qualities, they're just a set of descriptors.

basically, spiritual and physical is "are they big on religion? do they celebrate holidays?" and practical/traditional is "do they follow the rules because they are the rules? or because the rules will lead to doing the right thing?" which is a little simplisitc but basically it has to do with where morality is grounded

i think this will make more sense when i describe the clans so don't worry about it too much.

section four: thunderclan

physical and practical. thunderclan is the most militaristic. they're trying to put a strong front in front of kittypets. to that end, the concept of starclan is important, although we'll see that in the other physical clan, but medicine cats and occasionally leaders are the only real connection.

i've always kind of thought the other clans maintained the journey to the moonstone and thunderclan was just like "eh is it worth it tho?"

anyway i don't have a ton to say about any given clan ATM, just discussing general guiding ideas.

section five: shadowclan

spiritual and traditional. that's why they're at such odds with thunderclan. they follow religion so tightly because it is what is moral. and that's why they're so prone to problematic leadership. it turns out "your leaders word is law" is kind of a risky rule if your religion is "defying the code is fundamentally bad"

but i digress, shadowclan is only similar to thunderclan in terms of habitat. they're somewhat more serious, somewhat more concerned about religion. it comes up.

* this is the least relevant in CTD because i need dovewing to like shadowclan for being a tad more relaxed and i know that i've said the CTD and W&F universes are different but i still want to make it explicitly clear here

section six: riverclan.

spiritual and practical. they seem the most religious although both shadowclan and windclan would object to that, because, well, they would say riverclan's religion is pure theatre.

apprentices become warriors become elders at dusk. there is no duty to be completed, only celebration. a new warrior will watch a celebration in their honor, showing they have learned restraint, and when their vigil breaks in the morning, they will be greeted by their friends in celebration.

but it's very much not. there's a line in the light that shines on you, one of my inspiration fics, that has really stuck with me, really defined how i think about riverclan, even more than Flighless Dove, Poison Ivy, my whole au inspiration, and this line in particular is guiding:

Any cat with Riverclan blood belonged in Riverclan. Their blood was rare and valuable, even when mixed with another clan. Every descendant of River was laced with the divine.

section seven: windclan

last and only sort of least, physical and traditional. it's not that i don't care about windclan, so much as, i feel like tallstar's revenge did quite a lot of the legwork for me, and now i'm just keeping things consistent.

but i'm constantly saying windclan is practical, meaning it's straightforward, with a defined reason for what they do.

deputies are made when they are needed, and elders at their own request. but moonrise is reserved: a medicine cat needs a chance to speak what they see, and it would be a foolish leader who dared interrupt.

kits are named for prey and plants. harekit for a kit who looked fast and wry, crowkit for a kit with the old power of tunnelers. heatherkit for a kit with a pelt apt for stealth, and barkkit for a kit who looked out of place on the moor. the queen suggests, but the medicine cat confirms. without a blessing from starclan, no name could be a good omen.

and i think that's the most i can say for this.

today in the Andromeda Galaxy, GLITCHES TRIED TO KILL ME BUT I MADE IT WORK. or, well. Helen made it work, actually, and I was very grateful. (Elaaden, what do you have against my triangle button working? and wtf was that Nomad bug where suddenly I could see through time and the world contracted and my hair turned white????)

anyway.

this morning I joked to Helen that I was feeling very “I love all of my crew equally”/“I don’t care for Cora” so today I made a concerted effort to get to know her better--and tried a few Nomad combos where she wouldn’t sound like the fun police. (turns out, she and Vetra get along great! and also when I put her with Peebee she gets very self-conscious about how she’s totes not appropriating asari culture and it’s v embarrassing. on the OTHER hand, she makes fun of Peebee for peeping on Jaal and like, again, wtf, let me have my ot3.)

I started out finishing up that Morda drive core mission that glitched, and of course I gave the krogan the drive core in exchange for the outpost because I LOVE KROGAN and also RYDER LOVES OUTPOSTS. win/win tbh. but honestly the best part was getting to pick the dialogue option talking to Addison “fuck Tann” and Ryder actually getting to say fuck! it’s the little things.

after closing out Elaaden I decided to try and finish up a few errand-y missions like scanning plants, etc. in doing so, I got to play soccer with my very best friend Liam which was a heartwarming lot of fun, and fought TWO architects because just one was not enough. Peebee’s ex stole our beloved Proof Of Concept (I know the bot is called Poc, but honestly I think full-naming it is much cuter) and I was all “of course I’m gonna help you we’re in this together” which threw Peebee off her game because she’s still thrown every time someone cares about her. I AM, AGAIN, CANNOT EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH, GENUINELY SAD I’M GOING TO HAVE TO CHOOSE AMONG ROMANCE OPTIONS. this experience could not be more different from the main trilogy, where I romanced Liara out of a sense of obligation/curiosity faaaaaar more than any genuine interest or investment, and wasn’t tempted* to deviate from that by anyone else along the way. there are a thousand mechanical reasons why I think romance works much, much better in Andromeda than it ever did in the main series--among them the very pointed focus on found family throughout, the more nuanced ability to craft a unique Ryder by doing away with paragon/renegade and instead having the more robust conversation trees, and the overworld chatting on the Nomad giving EVERYONE the amount of personality off the bat that my OG crew had to like bite and claw for for two and a half games-- but like. I’m not gonna lie a big part of it is just that I just think more of these people are more interesting as potential partners. I THINK I AM AN ANDROMEDA GIRL. 

* well that’s a lie I would have romanced Tali in a heartbeat if I weren’t playing fem!Shep and that was illegal. and I’ll probably romance Sam Traynor after that. so. it’s not a total bust.

but I digress. 

saved that scientist’s baby on Voeld, and afterwards had my first ACTUAL, HUMAN conversation with Addison about--shockingly--the nature of friendship. I was genuinely surprised and pleased! look at us go! I also did some spying for that STG agent, and got the world’s most badly delivered “gee, are you really going to believe that old coot?” speech out of my main suspect, which was hilariously insulting.

and then, partly due to Helen’s advice and partly because, again, today was Learn To Appreciate Cora Day, I finished out her loyalty mission! I was shocked to find Sarissa alive after all the build-up-- I was certain that after that long a drum roll for how key she’d be in the Initiative’s growth that we’d find her mega-dead-- but as Helen pointed out to me, the trope is Don’t Meet Your Heroes, not Your Hero Is Probably Dead, Actually. her whole “be calm, soldier” routine @ Vedaria was kind of grating in the moment but is very cute after the fact, so fine. the whole muted sounds and gravity tricks of that final fight were super fun, even though I did accidentally jump into space once or twice. the big biotics lightshow was v impressive, but after I took a pretty hardline stance on Sarissa: come clean and shut up, and you’re fired. I did get a little offended when the asari captain was like “you could have killed us all, it was only dumb luck that Ryder found us” bc EXCUSE ME, SOME OF IT WAS DUMB SKILL, but still. it was good to get that all settled, and very good to hear Cora say what was immediately obvious to everyone but her, which is that her compulsion towards mentors and plans would have made her a poor Pathfinder but makes her a perfect XO. 

then I hit level 50 and spent a lot of time upgrading my gear, and like-- a kind god would have put the loadout console next to R&D and the buy/sell screen so I wouldn’t have to run up and down the Tempest corridor like an idiot. but whatever. Baby’s Fourth Beam Gun TM (an Avenger with a beam emitter) is working out splendidly, I’m slicing and dicing with my asari sword, and I’ve just put seeking plasma bolts on my Eagle which delights me. still shopping around for my ideal sniper before I commit but we’re getting there! 

then I went to start the new planet, but then realized Ark Natanus was right there, and ended up backtracking twice. First I ran back to the Nexus thinking there’d be another fun homecoming cut scene for the asari like there’d been for the salarians that I didn’t want to muddy with adding turians, too, only that didn’t happen. boo! I did remember to check on my mom, tho, so that was nice and emotional. then I went back to Netanus to start that up, only to realize I was wearing a very ugly and entirely face-obscuring helmet-- and once it was clear the entirety of the mission was going to be me emoting at Rix, I restarted the mission with a different armor loudout. yes, I am that vain, but only because opportunities for mlm/wlw solidarity are rare in this game (Gil’s been quiet lately, lol) and Rix deserved my best. though after doing all this, I am wondering: why do all the SAMs have different voices? surely making even one AI as smart and unique as SAM is difficult; then making each Ark’s SAM unique feels like an unnecessary burden? but whatever.

H-whateverthefuck is by far my favorite planet to Nomad around on. I’ve been complaining about the lack of low gravity mechanics since the Mako in ME1 (WE WENT TO THE MOON, THE LITERAL MOON, OUR MOON, AND NOT EVEN THAT HAD LOW GRAVITY?) and so this felt like pure vindication. (also, in general but very aggressively NOT for this planet because of the radiation, shout out to the Nomad for letting me get out no matter how poorly or vertically it’s parked, because lord knows I glitched the Mako many times trying to pause and get out in ‘impossible’ places the Nomad handles with ease.) anyway. the concept of a broken-up planet is terrifying, and the reality of it was eerie as all get-out. what neat execution!

and speaking of a neat execution, I’m so relieved going with the interrupt and firing at Meriwether while she held Sid worked, because I was again legit scared I might get Sid killed. as you’ll recall re: my Jaal loyalty mission, that’s the second time I was genuinely quite nervous there would be real consequences to screwing this up! I give the game a lot of credit for building a world where it feels like I really could screw up that badly. I’m very proud/fond of Sid, and the whole security camera mechanic was delightful-- a more fun version of the kind of stuff KOTOR always made me do. back on the Tempest, I decided to flirt with Vetra while the flirting’s still good, but tbh her flirt option (“I care about Sid bc I care about you”) wasn’t even all that romantically valanced, if you ask me! but also I love that Sid’s idea of justice is fast-tracking having cats in Heleus.

backstory :

         tam chaewon, aged thirty, had just finished her blacksmith apprenticeship abroad in the netherlands when she decides to go to a bar to celebrate with some friends before trying to find a job when she’s approached by a man claiming to overhear her accomplishment. eager to talk about her future, the two of them end up talking for three hours about it along with the various paths open for her to take. maybe it’s the willingness to sit and listen to her or maybe it’s the legitimacy in his interest that drew her in, but the two ended up spending the night together; they spend only two days together before he leaves with an address for chaewon to write to him if it’s needed. and she does, approximately two months later when she learns she’s pregnant with a baby girl. he writes back nothing but an apology, money to help with the expenses, along with a separate letter to give to the child when she turned ten. 

(trigger warning in the paragraph: death specifically during child birth.)         fast forward through a tornado of eight months and chaewon is visiting her parents when charlotte was born prematurely in seoul, south korea in chaewon’s childhood bathroom. there’s a complication with both chaewon and charlotte shortly the birth and the paramedics sped through the streets to pick up the two, doing their best to keep the two of them alive during the ride. the woman’s family races behind them in the family car, barely able to find the room the two are in to see the nurses rush ahead of them. (no one can tell charlotte what the complication is, but her mom stays alive for an gruesome day and a half, straddling the border between life and death. she’s declared dead on december eleventh at 12:18 pm, 1998.) legend has it that silence ran through the waiting room that the family was in, an unearthly wail leaving charlotte’s grandmother as she realizes what she had to pay to receive her granddaughter. no one wants to touch the child, let alone raise her. their family is faced with a choice when they’re handed the death certificate of their daughter, the birth certificate of their granddaughter, and their granddaughter herself.

           her uncle is the one that ends up taking her in that day. the oldest sibling to her mother by six years, he had been an entrepreneur bachelor his entire life up until that point. so it’s whiplash, to say the least, to completely upheave his life in seoul and move to the small town of parga, greece to raise charlotte. the transition period between being a bachelor to a single father is hard, but he does his best to not give up on it. along side the lack of support from his family, it makes it all such a draining process. when she turns six, her uncle hires the first person to help the family: a highly recommended local nanny by the name of phoebe who would stay with the tam family until charlotte turned eighteen. it’s around this time that her uncle begins to drift away more, trying to keep his business on track, but he always comes back with an elaborate apology and an equally elaborate gift for charlotte to make up for the digression. 

          when she turns twelve, she starts to develop ... slightly unusual powers that always came as a shock but were immediately chalked up to scarily accurate guesses. it’s a fun party trick she uses at classroom gatherings, guessing where faults where in desks, trying to figure out what was wrong with technology, etc. and it didn’t go much beyond that for a very long time. it’s a rainy summer day when her uncle sits her down with a strange man who explains to the both of them that she’s a ... demigod. it takes a whole afternoon to convince charlotte of this fact while her uncle looks at her like a monster. she promptly declines any move to go to a camp (much to her uncle’s dismay) and the next six years of her life is promptly laid out. a life lived in a private plane, tucked away from the world to live out of a few suitcases and bought time from others.

          this quiet life sealed away from the outside world leaves her doing whatever she can to keep busy. building whatever she can, trying to stay as occupied as much as she can. it results in a suitcase full of little trinkets by the time she’s six months into home schooling. the next few years of her life pass her by in a terrible haze as she does everything she can to catch up to the life that has been set out for her. her life begins to slow down when she gets into college at the age of nineteen, where she finally finds a safe haven amongst people like her. however, at the beginning of 2020, charlotte finds herself catching deep feelings for one EILILDH GALBRAITH. a fiery, vibrant, and resistant spirit immediately draws charlotte into deep feelings for her. the relationship happens for several months before the relationship comes to an abrupt halt in the end of october. unable to come to terms with her first major breakup, charlotte cites a personal, family matter to switch to online classes before coming back to in person at the end of finals shortly before the evacuation. 

wanted connections :

DREAMLAND / a v simple plot with room for extreme nuance! someone that charlotte can help bounce ideas off of and vise versa. enable each other’s terrible ideas but do it with much love and a camera on hand at all times. ( 0/2 spots taken )

PLaystation 5 Event

initially great, despite the horrible pre-orders ordeal.

On Sept. 16, 2020, Sony pulled back the curtain on another slew of details regarding the PS5.

1.       The PlayStation 5 releases on November 12th, 2020 in Japan, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, and the United States (why these states, only Sony knows even though I think it’s because of their distinct market in each of these countries).

2.       The PlayStation 5 releases everywhere else on November 19, 2020.

3.       The PlayStation 5 launches at $399.99 for the digital edition and $499.99 for the disc-based edition.

*IF backward compatibility with the PS4 is important to you, I’d recommend the disc-based PS5. Sony execs have confirmed 99% of PS4 games are compatible with their new Flagship console.

   The event also gave us a look into some new games coming to the PS5 for launch as well as games we can expect during the first year of the PlayStation 5’s life cycle. Honestly tho, I think some of those games indicating they were launching during 2021 is a lie. You mean to tell me you’re going to launch Horizon, God of War 2, Final Fantasy 16 all in one year…..really… If these games were dique going to launch in 2021, you would think they would have had at least a working demo or something, instead of a teaser trailer with the games logo…but I digress, I’ll touch on this later.

 Below are a few games showed that caught my eye and I just had to write about them.

Overall, Sony’s PS5 presentation was a good one, with all the information we as consumers were asking for since June and 10/10 would watch again (I’ve seen the presentation 4 times already (twice to write this piece 😊)).  

The presentations started with a trailer showing a slew of different games coming to the PlayStation five system, most games we covered in https://migstheruler.com/post/620830163010240512/ps5-reveal-event but just when you thought this was another trailer, boom!!!

Final Fantasy 16

A nice mix of old and new: as if the folks from Final Fantasy 11 and 12 made a 15 esque type game.

Shiva the ice goddess is back, and looking deadlier than ever throwing out chilly ice crystals sure to cause anyone level seven frostbite

Marlboros are looking as menacing as ever.

 Final Fantasy 16 was pretty unexpected to be honest, especially given final fantasy seven episodes one releasing a few months ago. However, it’s a nice surprise to see Square Soft jk Square Enix working on a new Final Fantasy game, especially one that likes to expand upon the action RPG elements (Think kingdom hearts series or final fantasy 15 and even 7).  Aesthetically, this is giving me hardcore fantasy elements with realism thrown in there.

Either way, what a great way to start off the presentation.

  Spiderman Miles Morales:

Next up, Sony gives us a seven-minute look into Spiderman Miles Morales, which expands upon 2018’s PS4 Spiderman. Sony has said this is not a direct sequel but instead a look to further expand upon the world through the eyes of Miles Morales. The graphics and presentation of this game are sure to entice any spiderman man. The lighting coupled with Mile’s powers makes this game a visual PS5 treat.

 Last time we saw Miles, he had just shown Peter Parker he too had powers to which Peter Parker joined him upon the ceiling, it was a bonding moment the two spider-men would have. Fast forward maybe a year (I’m not sure how much time has passed since the last spiderman game) we are thrusted into the shoes of Miles Morales.

  “Mom I’m home” Can we take a moment to appreciate my man’s line up here, dam that shit looks crispy.

Walking through Harlem, music playing, and folks dancing Salsa in the street. I’m not going to lie, this made me cheese from ear to ear.

This is what I expect to encounter when I have to mediate between clients ready to rip each other apart in a gory fashion (above).  

 Okay, knowing how strong spiderman is, I fully expect the dude’s Jaw to be broken after this power punch.

I forgot to mention (above) Miles can turn Invisible and has access to electric powers (below) sure to spruce up and affect the way Miles plays. I can only imagine a focus less on gadgets and more of an emphasis on Miles’ powers.

Although I know this game stars a new spiderman aka Miles Morales, the developers sure are making sure we know  we’re not playing with Peter Parker anymore.

Lastly, how dope is this launch title? It is one of the first games I plan to beat on my PS5.

-          I do want to say one thing regarding this title. I think it’s pretty great from a representation perspective to see a Black and Puerto Rican spiderman. Representation matters. I’m not Puerto Rican but am Latino and I do appreciate the flags littered throughout the trailer, folks dancing salsa and overall, Miles Morales as a character.

One gripe I have with this game unfortunately is Sony’s anti-consumer stance regarding those that purchased 2018’s Spiderman. Folks that purchase the Deluxe Spiderman Miles Morales edition for $79.99 get both Spiderman Miles Morales and a supped-up version of 2018’s spiderman for the PS5, yet Sony hasn’t extended an olive branch to those of us that supported their 2018 game (even making it one of their best sellers). IF you want to play Spiderman Miles Morales, you can cop it for a cool $49.99 which is dope but doesn’t include any type of upgrade for those of us with the PS4 version of spiderman. Honestly, as someone that doesn’t plan on playing the game again but it’s pretty anti-consumer to not even offer some type of benefit to those PS4 supporters. Here’s to hoping they offer some type of upgrade via a patch to the PS4 spiderman.

·       Turns out the game will run natively better on the PS5 given the consoles superior power but for a truly next gen 2018 Spiderman experience, you gotta pay those $69.99 duckats.  

   Looks Like we’re going back to Hogwarts and I’m not talking about Fantastic Beasts or Harry Potter. We received our first look (aside from the leak that was released last year). In Hogwarts Legacy, we go back to the late 1800s to visit the Wizards of the Waverly place (I think I said this right, I’ve only seen the Harry Potter movies once all the way through). Either way, it looks like they managed to capture the magic of Hogwatz. The walls of Hogwarts look alive, books flying all over the place and magic spewing from cauldrons of unknown potions.

 Our journey begins going back to Hogwarts with a cool looking Owl to boot.    

 The sorting hat is back babi, it seems like this is a create your own character adventure, where we as the player will get to customize our very own character, sure to get into whatever wizardly fun is to be found.  Team Slytherin all day!! JK, I’m team Gryffindor babi. But really tho, I have no idea what school I’d be assigned too.

Looks like our boys are cooking up work in the kitchen aka cauldron. I’d also like to bring attention to the lighting, truly impressive.  Time to eat some delicious grub with my fellow wizards!! (Below)

Looks like combat will be a big portion of gameplay as the video showed of a created character fighting some pretty large beasts.

Looks like we’ll be playing quidditch in this game, and I honestly can’t wait.

I sure do hope we’re able to feed these little cuties and pet them.

Looks like this game is open world, as the characters are seen flying on Griffins across the vista. They draw distances in this game are spectacular.

Hogwarts Legacy launches in 2021.

 *JK Rowling has no involvement with this game and that’s a good thing given her recent problematic statements.

  Demon Souls

Full disclosure, I bought demon souls for the PS3 back in the day but unfortunately, did not stick with the game. It was fun and I would proceed to play other From Software and souls genre games in the future such as Sekiro, Bloodborne and Nioh to name a few. But here we have Bluepoint games remaking the PS3 Cult Classic and precursor to the Souls Genre. I for one am super excited to jump back in and try my hand again at Demon Souls.

 This place here is the game’s main hub that allows you to access other portions of the world map. IT’s nice to see it in all it’s HD Glory.

Our Player is borne anew: Rise from your grave!!! JK, this isn’t a Sega title.

The environments look super luscious and literal indistinguishable from concept art. The leaves, lighting, and armor are truly a beautiful sight to see.  (Below) 

Nothing like chilling by a bonfire, although if you’re new to the genre, every time you heal at these bon fires, all the enemies you spent tirelessly fighting repopulate.

Call me crazy but in the original, players from other games could leave each other messages written in blood, as a way to help each other out. It looks like this concept is making a comeback this time around.  

 Dragons are so hot right now…. (insert Zoolander Gif here)

If you have ever played a souls game, you know this is something you can expect to see even in your dreams. I remember going to bed thinking how an enemy boss had beaten me 13-times in a row, only to go to bed thinking and imaging different strategies on how I could kill the foe standing between me and the game's progress.

The gameplay looks faster than the original but the difficult elements remain prevalent. The player is seen mowing down enemies which seems a bit off given the extreme difficulty of the PS3 game. But this could be Bluepoint addressing the sometimes-outrageous difficulty by making it more appealing to casuals.

Launch Title!!!!

 God of War Ragnarök:

Last time we saw our heroes, Kratos and Atreus were shacked up in their home when they receive a visit from a mysterious visitor brandishing what looks like Mjolnir on his waist.  The game ended in a great cliff hanger and is sure to improve on the many aspects the PS4 game

Get the fuck out of here. Sony decided to drop a nuclear ton warhead on us with the teaser trailer of God of War Ragnarok, a sequel to the PS4’s God of War.  Although they did not show any game play, they did manage to build the hype with the screen below:  

And then to top off the trailer the list the following with a supposed 2021 release date which I think is highly unlikely but, we will see. Either way, “we must prepare”.

   Sadly, when the presentation ended, pre-orders went live . We were told by Sony that we would have ample time to prepare to pre-order, nothing but the contrary occured. I was one of the unlucky folks who failed to obtain his PS5 preorder despite having the funds to do so. Here’s to hoping I’m able to secure a pre-order prior to the Nov 12 launch. I did manage to get a PS5 camera which is a must for me since I like to stream games online, it’s really quite addicting. Exo’s DO MV hairstyle rating: a comprehensive list

What is Love, 2012. 

Probably the longuest DO’s hair ever been. Surprisingly, I don’t mind it. For some reason, the demarcation between the super long and super short hairs isn’t that stark. I like that. It looks super dated, tho.

A different version of the previous hairstyle but leaving the waves aside. I like it because it seems more achievable in his (probably) pin straight hair. Looks soft and fluffy :D

Eh, no. He looks like a fluffy rhyno. What are those spikes on the sideburns? I bet all that fringe hair without gel to hold it flings straight into his eyes.

Let’s agree that everybody looked horrendous in Wolf. Like ma boy here who could be strutting the best catwalks in Syberia but the moment he stopped walking he’d freeze to death because he’s not wearing a coat. He looks like a fluffy mushroom and I wouldn’t eat one of those.

Growl, 2013

This must have been the “wildest” color KS’s ever wore, right? I don’t really know about this one. I can appreciate the attempt to change the color, as it’s very obvious he’s not one to experiment much with that sort of stuff. So A for effort. Now, that fringe is all messed up. When his hair falls down naturally without being gelled up he probably has strands sticking out in different directions and all different lengths. 

Also, the more I stare at this picture, the more I can sense Uncanny Valley creeping from my toes up and I don’t like that.

Miracles in December, 2013

Here KS has what in my language is called a bowl cut. I don’t even know if that’s the term in English and I don’t really feel like looking it up. 

Either way, from what I’ve seen in the Korean media I’ve had access to is that this hairstyle seems to be super common among teens and young adults. That surprised me because where I am it’s a hairstyle reserved to little kids. 

I understand the appeal, tho. He looks soft and cuddly despite having been ghosted. He’s not menacing (because you can’t see his brows). Makes you want to give him hot cocoa and bundle him up inside a big, soft, fluffy white blanket.

Overdose, 2014

So baaaad... I mean so gooooooooood. 

I really like this one. It’s longer, but it’s longer in an unniform manner. Also, this looks like he’s woken up in the morning with each strand of hair in a different possition. He’s then washed his face and making sure he’s wetting his hair as well. He’s us’ed a comb to make a very precise parting but then hasn’t combed through the rest of the hair, so now that’s getting dry, all the strands are starting to stick up again. 

That’s very relatable.

Call me Baby, 2015

This is one of KS’s best looks and I will die on this hill. 

It’s rather short. Blunt. Structured. Has a little flair but the flair is not too long that it sticks into his eyes. The color is natural and dark but has subtle golden and redish highlights. Looks very effortless. NOICE.

Also, filled in, strong eyebrows.

Final rating: 9.5/10 KS (Because there’s always room for improvement)

Love me Right, 2015

Ohh, yes. This is the second main contender to the first position, Again, to me this looks effortless, which is exactly the type of lifestyle I can see KS having. Chill, easy, no fuss, manageable. I woke up like this and I think I last brushed my hair two days ago. A natural man.

I love the styling too.

Sing for you, 2015

KS is barely visible in this MV. You know he’s there; you can feel him looming ominously around the borders of every scene. You can hear his voice. But you can’t really see him. The natural darkness of a B&W video shot in a supposed snowstorm grants a shadow for him to disguise himself into. 

That’s the reason why I’ve had to take those screenshots directly on the mv and why we can barely see his hair. But we can imagine. Looks shot and functional. Not so short and functional as it’s military counterpart. Seems like it would be nice to stroke it. It’s not flashy or attention grabbing. Discreet, but with a little room to play, represented as the spikiness of the fringe area. 

Imma give this one a lower rating because I feel there’s another hairstyle that unites all those characteristics and that both KS and I like better.

Lucky one, 2016

This is just a shorter version of the Sing for you supposed hairstyle. It’s alright. Although it’s a little bit lazy, I feel it fits the aesthetic of the video quite well. Clean and neat. I like how his perplexed expression during the beginning of this mirrors my own façade so well every time I rewatch this MV.

Monster, 2016

The styling of the hair may be the exact same as in Lucky One, but I don’t really care. My eyes dart directly to the bruise on his cheeks and the scar on his eyebrow. The holes and burns on his clothes. There’s something really special in a rugged man for me.

Lotto, 2016

This is a problem, because there’s two main stylings of which I hate the first one and really like the second one. In the first one, they obviously wanted him to look like he actually jumps into the cages with the roosters and physically trains them on fight. The second one looks pretty standard, soft and floofy. It’s shiny too and it looks healthy. Also I like the pirate like clothes styling here.

I’m conflicted.

Dancing King, 2016

He doesn’t have a lot of screen time in this MV. Most of the time, he’s either on rehearsals or performing. He wears a lot of caps. I never really understand the purpose of a cap if you’re not out in the sun (or scaping fans and papparazzi). Seems easy to knock off accidentally, a gust of wind could suddenly come by and snatch it off your head. You are going to make it all sweaty because all that dancing and then you’re gonna have to stick it into the washing machine. Can you put a cap on the washing machine? Does it lose its shape or smth?

I digress. The cap is, despite all the previous reticence, one of the few accessories he seems to wear irl. So Imma going to give him a good rating for realism and for giving us a little more BTS content.

Coming over, 2016

It was impossible to find still of the video but he wore the same styling as in this card, We have to set things straight. 2016 was a hell of a year. They released six different MVs, one of them a collaboration and one of them in japanese. There’s just not enough time for drastic hair changes. Hair doesn’t grow that fast. And it’s easier to leave the more lowkey members in a simple style so you have more time for the not that lowkey members. I get it. Imma a bit bored but I get it.

Kokobop, 2017

Yeeeeees, the change we’d all been waiting for. Aaaaand I hate it. I dislike that his hair matches his jacket. I dislike the fact that even his eyebrows look color coordinated. If it wasn’t for the blue shirt, he’d look as if he had been passed through a sepia filter. Not into it.

I love this whole look. Almost everybody’s looks, in fact. It seems like it was a very fun video shooting. We hadn’t seen a KS smile since love me right. He looks so young and playful, so boyish. 

There’s not much to say about the hair. It’s all carelessly hidden under a crownless cap? and some other accessories, but we can appreciate he’s gone back to his natural color. Praise the stylist noonas.

Universe, 2017

Ahhh, my white whale in the shape of a head. You were short and fleeting, but at least there’s a MV and a whole film to remember you. 

I love bald KS. I definitely don’t appreciate Eggsoo, but what’s not to love about a shaved head? Especially, his bald head. He’s extremelly symmetric and looks so uniform all around. It probably feels like a stroking a very dense but soft brush. He’s said himself he like this hairstyle. It’s strong. Durable. Reliable. Pragmatic. Still, soft, aesthetically pleasing. All KS really is. 

I also love the lighting and the clothe styling in this MV, it’s like a honey and caramel wet dream.

Electric Kiss, 2018

There’s not much to say about this either because it’s not easily visible. Looke like he has his sides shaven. The top is definitely longer but not a lot. Unceremoniously passes.

I think he looks specially good in tempo. Boyish but not too much. Longer hair, which is a change. The worst part is that he doesn’t have a lot of parts and even less screen time. I love how his lipstick matches the background.

I love this. Men driving are a kink for me. Black hair, yes. Aviator jacket, yes. Strands of hair loosely framing your face, yes. You usual stoic expression, yes.

Guys I watched the Sense8 Finale

And I am super happy with it (how do they manage to finish things so neatly? Directors/writers are fuckign genius) and the rest of this post will be below the cut because so many spoilers

First of all, I thought for sure it would be cramming a hell of a lot into two and a half hours and wondered if they could really end BPO that fast, but in the end, of course they knew what really mattered:

-People eating pizzas and singing out car windows

-Getting all the family together, and not just the cluster! 

-A stunning and surreal orgy sequence

Because this is what we really look for from Sense8, am I right? (Incidentally I would have to say the one area where the finale kind of failed was in tying up Capheus’ threads but also it wasn’t going to happen--while most characters had more emotional or main-plot-related threads to finish off, Capheus had a political election on another continent. However, I think signs do point to it eventually working out, and at least we saw Jela and Zakia by the end.)

My biggest feelings are on the Rajan/Kala/Wolfgang angle and, as y’all may or may not know, I have been shipping this Ot3 from Day One. Why? Because Rajan isn’t just some boring fiance/husband figure but a real human being, his actor is brilliant and incredibly hot, and he clearly cares about Kala, as is evident in every single interaction between the two--but Kala won’t be satisfied without an element of adventure in her life, and for her that element has always been Wolfgang. And I also always wondered how Wolfgang and Rajan would get along. WELL.

I DIDNT ACTUALLY THINK THEY WOULD DO IT THO! I AM SO HAPPY!

Some good moments on this angle:

-Rajan entering the apartment to see first, Lito walking around upset and shirtless, then Sun chopping vegetables with a knife, and then, Capheus being the first one to recognize him (which was really cute actually). And then it’s like oh we gotta get out of here and Kala just shoves a ton of fuckign medical equipment in his arms and oh great, let’s go up on the roof bc apparently we’re running for our lives now. (wait is that a random white guy with a gun? wtf Kala?) 

(side note Amanita freaking out over Nomi going ninja was possibly the best moment of this entire finale but there were so many good moments that I digress.)

-Rajan being so understanding once things are explained to him. His first two reactions are, like, “Oh, this is why you were so confused around the time of our wedding, I totally get that now” and then “geez poor sap getting tortured, must help” and then his third reaction is “you’re my wife and I love you, I’m in this with you” and just, Rajan, SUCH A GOOD MAN.

-Then Rajan’s the one to actually get Wolfgang out of the club, which is just a good touch, especially since Wolfgang has mixed feelings about him but certainly recognizes and trusts him.

-”Not many people would have done what you did for me”. 

-”My love, you are a killer. (awkward pause.) CAN YOU SHOW ME HOW?” And then Wolfgang just looking at him so fondly and then in Kala’s body casually tossing the gun he’s holding away and showing him how a real gun works.

-Rajan and Wolfgang in the dramatic double Pieta with Kala’s apparently dead body, but then Kala ghost shows up and says, “Hey, y’all drama queens wanna actually, I dunno, save my life?” And she knows how to do it too because she’s a goddamn doctor.

-Finally, obviously, the threesome. It gets obscured by the fact that we’re watching about five or six different couples at once along with approximately seven hundred flashbacks (and I honestly thought it was very artfully done) but I love that the last line of dialogue we get is Rajan, clearly mind blown, saying how he didn’t know things like this could happen. IM HAPPY FOR YOU RAJAN

Seriously I never thought Rajan would get to be as happy and in sync with Kala as he is in this finale. It’s like, maybe most of the tension between them wasn’t inherent incompatibility but secrets and a lack of communication. Which is what I’ve always thought. IM HAPPY.

Hm what else.

Well, Amanita and Nomi are married and that’s obviously great. OH!. Jonas. YEah I had a lot of feelings about the trio of Jonas-Whispers-Will, which has always been an interesting dynamic as well. Not as much Whispers-Will tension in the finale as there was in Season Two, but that’s okay, Season Two satisfied me on this angle, and I loved seeing Daniela take Whispers down when he tried to escape. As for Jonas, I really hate heroic sacrifices of this type--he’s suffered enough and I wanted to see him live--but I’m glad he at least turned out to be a good guy. And this time, Will listened when he told Will he was on Will’s side. Also, Whispers is dead which is a good thing.

I can’t believe the final villain of this movie wasn’t really Whispers but LILA FUCKIGN FACCHINI. Honestly what a villainous babe, I love her and I love to hate her. Still waiting for my Kala/Lila femslash guys. Still waiting.

Detective Mun goes to Paris to maybe reunite with Sun and convince her to come back to Korea and instead gets brought into a spy conspiracy involving telepathy. So he’s clearly living his best life.

Overall I just loved this finale. Usually when I finish a show I’m craving fanfiction but this time I’m actually not. I think Sense8 did an incredible job of satisfying my cravings (even the eclectic OT3 ones!) in its actual canon content. Doesn’t mean I’m not gonna seek the fic out but honestly well fukcing done.

every time i think surface level about forbidden ship my monkey brain automatically goes to the blue color scheme LMAO. when im coloring…. there’s so much blue sometimes jsdflkdj im pretty sure one day ill hate the color (HER HAIR FIRST. CLOSET TO GREEN IN THE SPECTRUM. THEN HIS UGLY ASS HAIR, TOP PART THE SAME HUE/RANGE AS HERS BUT JUST MOVED FROM CLOSER TO GREEN TO CLOSER TO TRUE BLUE I THINK ABOUT THIS IN MY SLEEP). the height difference is also good. if u go off that one post of all the characters lined up then he is like six feet tall and she like five feet two inches so the top of her head probably just barely reaches or hits his chin. amazing.

i also really like that….pure innocent/vulgar probably shouldn’t hang around him trope….just my honest onion but….i think its a good trope sdlfkj. just The fact that she seems so nice and formal and he seems like he says the word fuck regularly is just. so appealing. the girl thats like. the fe equivalent of a nun? hanging out with a shithead like that??? love that concept just so much. silque SEEMS like she’d be super understanding and what not but i think she’d also be just a little frustrated if it takes a real long time to actually KNOW anything about him, especially if she’s laying herself bare like that to him. she acts real mature in game and had to grow up real fast because of everything but she’s literally only 19 years old so i think that. she still has some childish things to her, and probably even wishes that she could actually HAVE a childhood, and i think that “childish” (and im using quotes because its literally not childish to want friends but) side comes out in the faye support because of her persistance to be her friend, the want to gossip, etc. but its especially frustrating for her if like she ever actually developed feelings for him because i HIGHLY DOUBT she ever had an opportunity to have any little crushes while at the priory (THE ONLY GUYS WE SEE THERE ARE OLD ONES LIKE NOMAH AND KIDS LIKE BOEY WHO IS LIKE. 16. she’d mother him before anything elseLMAO).

AS FOR THE ANSGT THO….THERE IS THE POTENTIAL THERE….to me, python seems flighty, like he would rather not be tied down to any one thing or person so. long term relationships are out the window for him. and silque, i think her devotion to mila would come first before anything and anyone else (MARRIED TO G O D) tho i guess. after the war, with both the gods sealed away that maybe she would consider it? but considering her canon ending, its like. everyone else comes before herself. she’s extremely selfless in that aspect. python is the opposite, very selfish in his motives (self preservation, doing the bare minimum, etc). both of their canon endings seem like something they have to do for themselves tho so its like. if they did end up together, who leaves what they were doing? 

and because of silque growing up in a religious setting (which when im thinking of the lore for that i associate things with catholicism) it’d probably be kinda. awkward for her to do anything intimate because that’s just so far out of her element, and depending on WHAT exactly is in mila’s teachings, could even be against things she was taught (WHICH. THERE IS SOME SORT OF NEED FOR MODESTY IN CLERICS as they have the headdresses and the ones in mila’s temple have like. a full on wimple almost. im just gonna headcanon that genny is too young and is more like those nuns/clerics in training who havent taken vows yet so they dont have the full on nun gear yet. none of this applies to priestesses becuase they’re an entire different class tree tho and this is all headcanons anyways so it doesnt actually matter ajsdjjsdfkjsdjfjk LOL) and python. in the words of a japanese fic i read once “PYTHON IS NOT A VIRGIN” so its like. he is experienced in these things, has obvious interest in girls, he is lookin to B O N E and she aint jlkfsdsdkfkljdsfSDKJFKJDS

Do you have a list of like top 5 tv shows? (Cartoons and anime included)

!!! Yes I do, actually!

I’ve actually thought about doing a YouTube video about this in the past, and while I do want to do list-like videos (and I already have at least one in mind) in the future, I put off doing this one because it actually…depends greatly on where certain shows I currently like are headed because some currently-airing shows would be on this list if they hit their full potential, but who knows if they’ll hit their full potential. Also I always split anime and cartoons into two categories because I always had a hard time picking otherwise xD But I do have some semblance of a list, and I adore talking about this kind of stuff, sooo:

5. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

This spot is kind of a three-way tie between Voltron, Bojack Horseman, and FMAB, all for extremely different reasons. So consider Voltron and Bojack my honorable mentions. But while I believe Bojack’s best is honestly some of the (if not the) best out there, and if Voltron promises through on what they’ve promised it will easily skyrocket up this list, Bojack’s worst is everything I hate about Hollywood and Voltron just has too many holes at the moment.  FMAB has the best of both worlds because it has great animation like Voltron, doesn’t have any of Bojack’s bad kind of moments, and doesn’t have many holes in it.  (Another honorable mention goes to BNHA, but like Voltron, I just don’t think it has had enough time to develop all the way. Unlike Voltron, it doesn’t really have any holes, but I do have a problem with how strictly it adheres to cheesy super heroes of the past.)

BUT onto FMAB itself. God cmon, its FMAB, do I really need to elaborate why its so great? The characters are compelling, their motivations are powerful and interesting. I could write an essay examining Ed’s character alone, because he has so many interesting motivations and morals that seemingly conflict with his angry disposition, and I don’t even like Ed that much. The story is exciting - there’s basically no filler, and it almost moves too fast at points. I do have problems with the show - as I said, it goes too fast. The only two deaths in the season happen in the first 12-15 episodes of the series, and although I think that’s because the original FMA animated those scenes already, it still fucks with the pacing of this show. Additionally, despite Lust, Gluttony, and Envy all being revealed before, the show introduces a completely new villain - Greed - to introduce the homunculi. And then they kill Lust - the presumed leader of the first three introduced homunculi?? Idk man, the show barrels in a completely different direction way too quickly. But other than that, its a great show. The only reason it isn’t higher is because I’m a biased shit towards other good shows.

4. Teen Titans

Speaking of being a biased shit, idk if it shows or not, but I have a HUGE soft spot for corny kids shows that try to give kids bad laughs and dark/relatable storylines, or rather, have a heart while doing so. Its not so much that I like a balance of comedy and darkness in my shows - although that’s a good thing, I eat pure angst up and I’m all-for pure comedy shows that have the aforementioned heart (ie we bare bears, another good show not on this list) - its just specifically corny pun-ridden teen/tweeny-feeling shows/games that actually have a decent story underneath that get me. (Also my sense of humor aligns much more with shitty teen lingo and puns than modern cartoon humor that’s considered “good”. Like I find Teen Titans 10x funnier than I’ve ever found Steven Universe. I’m a 90s kid at heart even tho I wasn’t alive in the 90s)

But the biggest impact of this show for me was the heart and the plot. The silly moments made me laugh, sometimes iromically and sometimes unironically and sometimes I wasn’t sure how, but it was the story that really gripped me. The first season’s overarching plot for Robin is honestly one of the most compelling things I’ve seen in kids cartoons…period. Its dark, its unique, its a subversion of such a simble and broad trope. Sure it had a nice cheesy ending but Robin actually saves the day through INTELLIGENCE, something he always had. No other Teen Titans ending did that, but I digress.

And god, do not even get me started on Terra’s arc. Just because Robin’s was the most well-structured arc doesn’t mean his was the most emotional. I was fucking distraught after Terra’s season. Those memes weren’t a joke, I legitimately cried right in front of my mom. IT WAS SO OBVIOUS, BUT IN MY BLIND LOVE, I MISSED ALL THE SIGNS… and god, even when she comes back, even when she’s given a happy ending, she manages to make me cry AGAIN. I never, ever thought I could cry over a character like Beast Boy, but she made me do it. I didn’t even cry when Sokka’s girlfriend died, but this really, really got to me. Once for personal attachment, and the second time because…the finale is so good. Literally its Bojack levels of deep, emotional, and realistic, and this was the ending of a fucking kids show. What the fuck. To this day I still get emotional whenever something reminds me of her arc. Which brings me to my next series…

3. Cybersix

Hi so did I mention Cybersix is really good? Because Cybersix is really good.  I’m not even done with it but yeah, I love this show.  It’s got an amazing art style, great animation, an intriguing story…I have a feeling I’m gonna be really disappointed when it ends because I’ll want to know what happens next so badly.  I like the characters, I like the aesthetic, I like the old-timey music that dates this cartoon so wonderfully, I even like the romance between Lucas and Cybersix/Adrian!  How’d you make me do that.  Oh yeah, because it’s not hard to get me to care about a mutually rewarding relationship that’s gradually built up through a friendship, then an aesthetic attraction, then presumably a relationship but idk yet, where both parties care about one another and their boundaries and have gotten along well since the start.  I forgot.  (I could nitpick that Lucas doesnt have the same buildup for the relationship as Cybersix [its complicated, basically he’s friends with Cybersix’s alternate persona Adrian but he’s in a relationship with Cybersix, and he doesnt know theyre the same person] but I’m not gonna.)  It’s just…a good show man.  @ hollywood, reboot THIS you cowards.  Stop rebooting shit nobody wanted a new version of and reboot shows that were ended to quickly.  Actually dont reboot Cybersix because the only animation studios that would be able to do it any justice are Studio Mir and anime studios, and whoever owns the current copyright to Cybersix would probably be okay using flash for it

2. Digimon Adventure (with a honorable mention to Digimon Tamers)

You can rip my love for the entire Digimon franchise from my cold, dead hands.  I’m sincerely surprised any show passed up my love for this show.  If/when the currently airing series in Japan gets brought over here, I’ll watch it, even though Digimon has kind of abandoned what made it so great in the first place.  But hell, even Fusion was enjoyable - the second arc, from what I remember, was pretty dark and interesting (im still mad they got rid of the two best characters tho) - and the only reason I disliked Data Squad so much is because of Marcus (that and it doesnt have anything else that’s absolutely stunning, in fact from a technical standpoint Marcus is the best thing about the show).

But there’s a reason I put Digimon Adventure here and not the entirety of the Digimon franchise.  Digimon Adventure is what started it all.  No Digimon season has as much heart in it as the original.  Sure the animation improves each season, sure Tamers is probably better story-wise on a technical level, but I dont think any season matches the raw charm of the original.  It was so charming, in fact, that what was supposed to be a 13-episode miniseries evolved into a massive franchise that’s still beloved to this day.  Hell, there’s still content being released for the 8 Digidestined of this season!  It’s right alongside Pokemon, Invader Zim, Hey Arnold, and all these other beloved 90s/early 2000s cartoons that are being revived in recent years, and I think that says a lot.

I wasn’t even alive when Digimon Adventure was airing, but I loved the Digimon games I had played so much that I went out of my way to watch it.  And I…loved it.  Sad as it may be, it was the greatest TV show I had seen at the time.  Growing up in the late 2000s watching only Nickelodeon and CN was not a good period to grow up in, and I never saw Avatar as a kid.  By the time the 2010s had rolled around, I had mostly given up on cartoons, and besides, they were all fugly.  I still tried to watch some, but just…the humor didn’t grip me, they seemed dumb, and they weren’t pleasant to look at.  (Okay the main shows I’m vaguing about are Adventure Time and Regular Show, as well as whatever Nickelodeon was doing but I begrudgingly put up with Nickelodeon for the most part because I preferred Nick and I never knew what else to watch)  Then Digimon came around, and hol-y-shit.  The characters were like nothing I had ever seen before, the storylines engaging and interesting.  Sure it was cheesy, but there was 95% less fart jokes than the average cartoon, a good story, and actually relatable characters that actually go through hardships and actually change for the better!

Digimon Adventure has been and always will be proof to me that no matter what you are, no matter what your show is, you can make a good show out of it.  If you get people who care, who can make relatable characters, who can come up with an interesting story, you can make a good show.  Digimon Adventure is basically a big long toy commercial, and yet its better than lots of shows that dont even have merchandise - and its also better than a lot of shows that have merchandise now, but weren’t created to sell toys in the first place.  I just.  Love it a lot.

Also, the reason I specifically chose Digimon Adventure, outside of having a personal attachment to it since it was always my favorite, is because Tamers hecking scared me as a kid and I’ve never gotten over how creepy the last arc is.  Like it’s good, but it still scared me.

Honorable mentions: Bojack Horseman, Voltron: Legendary Defender, We Bare Bears, Gravity Falls (thats a big one, it would definitely be on this list if I had 10 spots, and will gladly take the 6th spot if Voltron doesnt follow through or Bojack goes south), Over the Garden Wall,  the aforementioned Digimon Tamers ,and Infinity Train might be #2 or at least #3 if it wasnt just a single episode l m a o

1. A tie between Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra

Before I explain both, I want to be very clear that I’m not counting them as a single entity.  No, I just cant pick between them.  They’re two extremely different shows, and I actually agree with people who say ATLA is overall a more-rounded show.  Problem is, I watched both during a period of my life where politics and darkness make an extremely interesting show for me (aka the current period of my life) and thus its a very biased and “nostalgic” pick, just like Digimon Adventure.  Had I watched these shows when they were airing, I dont know if LOK would even be on this list.  Heck Digimon adventure probably wouldnt be on this list since ATLA would’ve held the crown for my favorite show for all those years.

They both have amazing animation and solid writing, but that’s about all they have in common in my eyes - even though they share the same world.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a kids show.  Through and through, its a kids show.  That’s not an insult in the slightest though; no, the fact that they can make something so sophisticated and enjoyable that still clearly appeals to children is really a testament to their skills.  Many kids shows that try to take on heavier/darker stories feel like completely different shows when they try to do that - shows that arent intended for kids.  Voltron and SU are the most notable examples of that, but even LOK has a little bit of that (but in LOK’s case, its the entire show, so I kinda give them a pass lol)  Other shows do it okay (Gravity Falls) but really the only show I’ve ever seen match Avatar’s perfect balance of comedy and seriousness is Bojack, which isn’t a kids show so it has an advantage over Avatar.

Avatar’s world is fanciful and larger than life.  I’m so sad that I watched Avatar and LOK after my fanfiction days; I would’ve loved to spend nights thinking about a potential Avatar story, complete with my own Avatar and original cast.  I could put it before Avatar, after LOK, who knows? but it would’ve been so much fun.  Hell I HAVE thought about Avatar stories, but I obviously dont have much thought up on any of my potential ideas.

The pacing of Avatar is golden.  How a show wish such good pacing got through Nickelodeon, I dont know, but whatever deal allowed Avatar to go on for three seasons and then end was a once-in-a-life-time deal (as evident by what happened to Korra).  Somehow this show came out almost completely perfect, with few or no flaws.

This is the pinnacle of children’s entertainment, in my opinion.  This is proof that there’s no excuse for the garbage that makes up 90% of children’s entertainment.  The standard doesn’t have to be this, since this is the best, but this show is proof that we need to raise the standard.  I wish executives actually gave a shit about quality; if they did, maybe we could get mostly good shows instead of mostly bad shows.

If most shows were half as good as Avatar, the average show would be gorgeously-animated, smartly-written, and really good, even if it had a flaw here and there.  If most shows were half as good as Avatar, Steven Universe would be the average instead of a godsend.

If I someday, somehow make a show that’s 2/3rds as good as Avatar, I’ll officially be a good writer.  I’d love to make tons of shows just as good as Avatar, but hey, I cant get TOO cocky now lol

Now for The Legend of Korra.  Korra has slightly better animation (god i love studio mir) and different but still intriguing worldbuilding.  I know a lot of people found the political bs to be annoying, but I actually found it quite intriguing.  Avatar did a little bit of exploring moral gray areas and playing with politics, but Korra just goes all-out.  I wish the first season’s morality could’ve been a little grayer, but even then, the politics were still interesting.  And god, that one scene in the first season finale, the murder-suicide…that’s still a really powerful scene.  The entire finale would’ve been super powerful were it not for everything resetting by the end of it, but hey, they basically did the same thing in season 3!

Holy shit though, season 3.  An on-screen strangling.  Someone exploding themselves to death.  And then the finale’s fight.  The finale’s fight. The finale of season 3 is one of the most intense things I’ve seen…ever.  The atmosphere in that fight is just…so good - combined with the animation and choreography, its just amazing.  You can almost feel every hit, you actually feel concern for Korra, you’re legitimately concerned for her life.  And you know what?  You should’ve been!  Because she almost dies, and she has to suffer the consequences of that.  The fourth season has a time gap in-between, but even then, she spends episodes trying to fully recover.

In my opinion, the only thing making Korra a kids show is Milo.  I’m certain they put him in there because otherwise, it wouldn’t have been allowed to be called a kids show.  It’s dark, its intelligent, its beautiful, and it’s going to go right over most kid’s heads.  As a kids show it does kind of fail; it just doesn’t really appeal enough to them.  Once you’re old enough to understand, say, Naruto or Dragon Ball you should be okay, but ATLA appeals to all ages while Korra really needs a certain maturity in its audience to be understood and to not scare its audience.

A boat ride with God.

Are my vices that important to me that they have to tag along with me everywhere I go? Because, you see, I can never face my imperfections if I just wish them away, or ignore them completely. Oh, they’re still there, sitting and waiting.. My only option is face them head on; to acknowledge those things as they are and get rid of it to save myself from ruin.

How could I possibly let something so negative tag along with me? Even on a boat ride with God... See we hang out all the time. Beside the still waters is our hangout spot .. a place of comfort and peace where I get a chance to thank him for his amazing grace and singing songs that he loves.

This time, He’s suggested we play a game of “catch and release” he says, to ward off boredom.. I’m the only one fishing of course because hey, He’s God and I’m just ... me. Let’s face it he doesn’t need the fish anyway, He’s the Great I Am LOL .. but this game is different from the normal C&R. God makes me a promise

“For every fish you catch, there’ll be double waiting for you back on land “

“WHAT? Aww this finna be a breeze “ I say as I kiss my teeth and fan him off in confidence.

“But there’s a twist you see. See these aren’t just any old fish , they’re the big fishes in your life. Every situation that’s left you teary eyed is embedded in each one and they’ll all be different in nature but still a fish nonetheles. Now I know this won’t be easy, but the good news is, I’ll be here when ya need me.”

He says with the cheesiest of grins as he leans back in his convenient jasper framed chair with THEE STRONGEST FIBERS of lambs wool for backing, which by the way looks way more comfortable than this cooler I’m sitting on but i digress. He reaches for a heavy book and places it in his lap and cracks its open as if to begin reading where He left off.

He sits back, and then abruptly leans forward as if he’s just had another genius idea. “You know what, After a few good catch and releases, To make the deal sweeter, if you can catch and release every fish you receive, you can have triple the amount back on land ..”

“Wheeeww !! This is NOT what I had in mind for today” I think to myself as annoyingly grab my bamboo fishing rod.

And outta nowhere he says aloud. “Girl! i can here you! Start fishing”

“OK!” I mockingly reply in my head.

Ok 1st fish wasn’t so tough ..

“ you should spend more time with your friends, “ the fish spoke as I reeled him into the boat. “ you’re so anti social. You dnt get out much and quite frankly .. “

Before I knew it I’d thrown him back as quick as he’d come up and glanced at God. He smiled.

“I wasn’t about to let him say my friends are more important than my time with you. I would never... “

He nods his head and continues on reading his gi-normous book

About 20 more fish come and go. And I let them all go with ease.

“I’ve got this” I say, dusting my hands off after tossing away yet another fish.

I continue on fishing and here comes another, after hours of waiting.

“Where’s your phone? You’ve been out here for hours. Your boyfriend must be trying to reach you... “

“You know what you might be right,” I say as I quickly place the fish in the cooler and begin to look around. As I search the boat for my phone, I find it laying right by God’s feet. I look up to him and we lock eyes. “Oh I know what this is” I say as I dump the fish back out into the water while keeping my eyes locked in His gaze. “Won’t. Get Me”

He smiles and nods. I continue to catch and release what had to have been hundreds of fish, or the same desperate talking fish a hundred times WHO KNOWS!

That is until a moment of stillness in the waters happens and for hours there’s not a fish to be caught.

“Well where are they ? I know you know!” I say to God..

“Oh they’re there, just wait” He replies without glancing up from his book.

And so I wait and I wait until I hear a faint humming sound approaching from the distance. It was a girl, riding in on a jet ski. I immediately notice that the waters her boat ripples through is the clearest of turquoise waters I’d ever seen in real life. And, funny, this girl looked oddly like me except .. she had this long silky-straight dark brown hair. And her body? UGH ! I mean did you have to where baby oil today? Somehow that darn baby oil just set me off because I just KNOW the sun was gonna help reflect her every single perfection, all the ones I didn’t have.

“Hey girl! What are you doing out here fishing? My friends rented a cabin not too far from here. You should join us.”

I glance at God and our eyes met. He didn’t say anything and I didn’t either. I turned to her and replied, “I’m good baby grl but thanks tho” I said, a bit grudgingly, as I felt God’s eyes burning through my SOUL.

“Well you won’t mind if I sit with y’all, huh?” She says, “My friends are all sleep back at the cabin. UGH they’re so lame! They just dont know how to have fun”

My ears perk up. Well what do ya know. I like to have my fair share of fun!

“That’s a tough crowd!” I replied. “Well you’d be in God, hmgh uh Good company tho”.. I look over to God who’s giving me the Nick-Young-Question-Mark face to, probably, the saddest pun he’s heard in a billion years .. I quickly turned my attention back to ole grl as I held back my laugh.

“Alright cool help me in” .. I grab her by the hand and carefully help her into the boat. As I’m doing so, I feel a sudden chill. Like the quick burst of cold you feel when someone shuts off a bright light. Almost like the warmth of God had left me. I looked and what do you know, God and his fancy jasper framed chair was gone..

But I don’t get it! He said He’d be here.. “Where’d you go God” I thought to myself.

In that moment, I started to panic. Almost like the time as a child when I’d go on a grocery run with my mom and I’d stop, for what seems like only seconds, to pick up a toy, only to look up find that my mom has disappeared. It’s probably one of the scariest few seconds you’ll endure as a child. The disappearance act that you weren’t ready for. The most panicked search you embark on, with the quickest of footsteps, as you call out her name, only to find her on the next aisle, waiting for you to catch up.

“I’m here.” I breathe a sigh of relief as I feel God’s sweet voice embrace my thoughts and calm my fears. “Remember what we talked about. Catch and release”

I thought “What? catch and release?” In utter confusion. “I haven’t seen a fish in over an hour now.. we are literally the only three living beings out here cuz there’s definitely no fish”

“Uh? Hello?” I hear two other voices say

“Jesus?! Help me Holy Ghost! You know what I meant. Charge it to my head and not my heart !” I say aloud, jokingly dragging each word like a Southern Baptist preacher.

“What was that?” Ol grl said

“Uhm,” I stall, “What’s your name again?“

And we talked and talked and she begins to feel like an old friend. Its like we’ve known each other all our lives. That is, until a question comes to me seemingly out of nowhere to ask her.

“So what have you got going for yourself? Since you’re out here just living your best life. I know you gotta be on to something? Tell me your secret“

And then something strange happens. I hear her utter something but it’s distorted like she trying talk to me under water. But she keeps talking normally as if what she’s saying is completely comprehensible.

“God, am i tripping or am i tripping tripping?” I think to myself. “Why can’t I hear her?“ I start to feel the world around me fade out as I wait for God’s answer.

And then I hear his soft, still voice say, “Some thing’s aren’t meant for you to hear, nor see.” His words fall on me like heavy bricks. I’m riddled with questions now. My emotions bubbled up so fast before I knew it I blurted out.

“So what IS meant for me to hear, huh? What’s meant for me to see? She’s a gorgeous young lady who happened to look exactly like me except for a few alterations, which I personally would’ve suggested for myself had I had the privilege of picking my own features but hey you’re the boss here.”

I’d become so lost in my emotion that I’d barely noticed that the girl suddenly was no longer there. Just gone.

“She looked so happy and carefree.”

“Ah see there’s the thing. Did you hear the word you used?” God said to me with a sense of “ah-ha” in his voice.

“And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone was sitting on it. The one sitting on the throne was as brilliant as gemstones—like jasper and carnelian. And the glow of an emerald circled his throne like a rainbow.

“Twenty-four thrones surrounded him, and twenty-four elders sat on them. They were all clothed in white and had gold crowns on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning and the rumble of thunder. And in front of the throne were seven torches with burning flames....

And then I came to him. And all i could see was his brilliance and light and his love began to radiate through me as those words echoed in my mind like the vibrant sound of a high symbol in a stairwell.

For you created all things, and they exist only because you created those things which pleases you. I wouldn’t be here, had you not found pleasure in my presence.

As much as I hate to admit it, I brought my vices along with me that day. But I didn’t leave the same way I came. I faced it head on; acknowledged those things as they were and got rid of it to save myself from ruin because despite what I feel, comparison kills.

I’m a parent-grew up very middle-class. Worked my a—off & made prudent/frugal choices so my kid(s) can attend a university like Princeton & pay 100% of tuition & even donate more so others (like many of you who are critical) can also attend! My daughter was passionate about math the way you (Pichu? Bateman?) might be passionate about something else. We were THRILLED she got fantastic offers from “financial” (& other) firms. But more importantly, SHE gets to spend her life doing 1) something she

1) something she hopefully loves & 2) something that can help support her, her family, & contribute rather than be a burden on society. SO STOP KNOCKING WALL ST, FINANCE, ETC. Maybe those who go into finance jobs think others who get degrees in areas like philosophy are going about “life” the wrong way, but keep it to themselves

I just saw this and I know Bateman and Pablo responded before me but I’m gonna put my response at the top so that you hopefully don’t miss my response. Who was shitting on finance? Ok @original poster.. i think my family and yours actually have a lot of similarities, let’s see (and since you like to brag..):

my daddy came from something similar to “very middle-class” (imagine a village in rural china, youngest of 4 children, parents were illiterate and had no income, walked miles to school everyday) and, LIKE YOU, “worked his a-- off”. i’m sure you understand what he went through since you also worked your ass off! he went to college at age 14, first in his family to go to college (also first in his family to read), came to America to get his PhD in --guess what-- math! from a university that is ok at math i guess (ask your daughter), was a professor at a school in Boston for a year and then went to work in.. wait for it.. finance! and still does (what a terrible profession that i shit on, how disgusting). and like you, he “made prudent/frugal choices so [his] kid(s) [ME] can attend a university like Princeton & pay 100% of tuition & even donate more so others (like many of you who are critical) can also attend”.. and wait it gets better, like your child, I study math! see we are not so different after all, right pops? why the animosity?

i mean this when i think your daughter knows what she’s doing (us math people think alike). my true qualms are with the people who just think about getting a job for money, don’t think about their education, and so a large portion study econ / woodywoo (don’t forget the finance certificate!) / orfe (if they’re brave/foolish) and all they think about / their main goal throughout college is getting a job with money (i’m not characterizing all people of these majors as this way!!! plz don’t yell at me rtp community). they could be very interesting people, but i think for a lot of them the environment of princeton further causes them to act this way. this is just the impression i have gotten during my time here.

congrats to your daughter, and congrats to you for getting to brag to people about your daughter (you’re not too shabby yourself tho).

Response from Bateman: If you read our posts carefully, you’d realize that no one is knocking Wall St., or finance industry. The initial post asked for jobs to make a large salary outside of finance, and we stated that it’s not healthy to think solely in terms of salary. If you like finance, good for you, knock yourself out. You said it yourself in your answer, that it’s about “1) something she hopefully loves,” and you even put that first as opposed to “something that can help support her.”

Bateman ninja’d me, so I’m still going to tack on my own two cents here. Remember - this is totally my opinion.

Yeah, I don’t think any other contributor was knocking finance as a field, just saying that the idea that all you want in life is money and nothing else comes across as shallow and uninteresting. That being said, even thought I’m not interested in finance all that much, I get why people would want their end-goal to be making money. Maybe you’re just “greedy”, or maybe you have only known financial instability, so having money in excess sounds appealing, or maybe you have family that you could only help with money. I’ve heard all these things. Maybe you’re somewhere in-between. I might add that some people go into finance because they actually love it, same with consulting, but I digress.

I definitely agree with Bateman in that you will probably have a better life if you follow your passion and then see how you can make money from it. Just ask most alumni at Reunions. You might not think finance sounds fun or consulting sounds fun but, if all you care about is money, then why should it matter? Be prepared to keep your head down and work your ass off getting the only thing you’re interested in, or the means to get whatever you’re interested in, and then hope retirement comes soon. The problem there is that you may realize down the road that just getting financial and material gains is not satisfying (although it may totally be the case that you do not realize this and that you are happy only with money). I think the other guys were trying to help you parse through these thoughts a little more, but if there is one thing I’ve learned this year, it’s that the only way to really learn something is the hard way.

So, @ the original anon, just deal with the fact that making money might suck. Last year, I stayed up all night watch chairs for Commencement for additional money - it was brutal but it was all for some end, right (jk not worth it AT ALL, but I learned)? And @ this parent, congratulations to your daughter! No one is knocking finance and even if they did lmao who would care - some people literally don’t believe environmental science is a thing while others devote their life to it. Point is, there seems to be a good portion of Princeton (students + alumni) that would advise finding a passion and then getting money therefrom rather than the other way around. But, if the only way to do what you want to do is with money and you want to do it fast, and you’re a little too stubborn to think this through, finance may be the road for you.
