if you compare the book covers and assume they have the same lighting it looks like gideon is darker than harrow so i think many people have assumed based on that that gideon has tanned/dark skin. its really hard to tell from just the one cover tho and i dont think theres any description in the book? i havent read book 3 though so maybe in that.

Yes I just found a post from Tamsyn Muir describing that she is mixed Māori with darker skin than Harrow! So I will keep that in mind from now on 😁

reaperman was too excellent of a book to be marred by the stripmall scenes and it's very tragic

haven’t read reaper man in eons but I have to confess that while I obviously found the a-plot touching and deeply meaningful, I... fucking love Windle Poons. And for that matter. the Area X stripmall. And Pratchett’s anti-suburb agenda. Holy shit, sorry, I JUST put the pieces together on the fact that the stripmall ruined Annihilation for me ten years in advance, don’t mind me.

that post is potentially very helpful but i dont think its universal...i think its a bit dangerous to blanket tell everyone with ocd that they need exposure therapy/cbt because for some ppl thats going to harm them.

the other thing about it is...

as someone with PTSD who is having to learn how to cope with having Many Many Triggers and having to learn not to avoid Literally Everything because of it

there’s like. two levels of treatment here. 

there’s “immediate what gets you through the day”, and there’s “unpack all the crap, which is often draining and/or emotionally taxing” 

the first thing I learnt in PTSD therapy was p much “okay, here is a thought/situation/idea that’s triggering you. catch it in a pokeball, where it can be held safe, until you’re ready to let it out and engage with it again.” 

it’s not a permanent solution. if you’re gonna get better, you do need to unpack all the crap. and that’s definitely a “the only way out is through” kind of deal! you’re never gonna stop being triggered by something unless you bite the bullet and unpack why it’s triggering, process the bad things that happened to you, + etc.

but sometimes that’s a luxury. if you’re working a high-powered job (or a really crappy service industry job), you might not have the time to unpack everything. You might need the band-aid now, even if long-term it’s worse for you, because if you don’t have a bandaid, you won’t be able to keep the insurance that lets you get the long-term treatment. Or the medication that keeps you stable enough to get the long-term treatment without completely falling apart.

thank you so much for all your posts/tweets against anti culture. one of the few things helping to keep my sanity intact is seeing other ppl take a hard stance against them.

at this point i’m literally fucking angry about the way this fandom handles antis.

fun story:

about two months ago i was trying to get into the wider fandom, to socialize more, and through that got into the PGP podcast which…. i didn’t love but I was trying to be social around.

this was around the time that WLW homestuck zine was recruiting, the one that’s run by some folks from swamp’s old crew, two antis who harassed sooooooooo many people. so i put out a tweet going “hey heads up, the WLW zine going around, it’s run by antis and serial harassers, so please be careful and steer clear.”

cue the fucking host of PGP coming at me, telling me this is “not the way” to deal with stuff, and that my beef with them was a “mutual misunderstanding.” multiple other people came forward to talk to kate and tell her like no dawg these people were bad fucking news, but she literally said she didn’t believe multiple corroborating sources and that it was “cancel culture.”

anyway fast forward to like three days ago and one of the zine runners started stirring up shit about V/ipgd during this anti campaign. YOU KNOW. LIKE AN ANTI DOES. and kate got caught in the fucking crossfire.

which is why

when multiple people fucking tell you

someone is an anti and to be wary of them

you fucking listen. you fucking listen to the victim of harassment, to actual WLW who got harassed.

for the love of fucking god do not prioritze WLW content you personally might want to see over the concerns of living breathing WLW. this isn’t rocket science.

ETA: so i assumed given all we learned last night about the alt r8 using antis that someone would at least start paying more attention to the problem but alas

wow. okay then. that’s certainly a choice you made.
