birb of the day: today's friend is the king eider! I've only seen these majestic ducks a handful of times but they're just super interesting to look at! out of all the eiders, these guys are my fav.

Hey! I saw your fat liberation month post and wanted to ask you a question. I hope this doesn’t come off as rude or anything, I just figured you might be knowledgeable on the subject. I hear a lot from fat liberation activists that being fat doesn’t mean you’re unhealthy, which I agree with to an extent, but I don’t know if it’s that simple. I mean, I’ve heard that obesity causes more strain on your heart/lungs/joints, causes elevated blood pressure/cholesterol, can mess with your hormones, the list goes on. I believe that fat people should be respected, accommodated, and treated as people no matter what their health status is - I mean, I’m fat myself - but I just don’t know if I believe that being fat is without negative health effects. I don’t think fat people should have to change anything about their bodies to be treated with respect, but it doesn’t make sense to me that being fat would have no effects on your body. Again, I’m not trying to be rude, this all comes from a place of genuine curiosity. Thank you for taking the time to read this!

birb of the day: steller's jay! I got to see these guys when I visited my aunt in california years and years ago and they're so cool looking! blue and black is such a killer color combo tbh, an absolute slay if you ask me 💅

oh YES now you're in my wheelhouse, I've got a bunch of these guys in my backyard and I love them a lot!! In fact I've got some fun facts of my own to share this time! :3

FIRST FUN FACT: did you know that they can mimic other bird sounds extremely impressively? One time one perched on my open window next to my bed and woke me up by screaming at me with a scrub jay's call 😂 and they often mimic hawk cries in order to scare other birds away from feeders! The ones in my backyard do it all the time and it is soooo cool to witness, they've actually tricked me into trying to look for a hawk in the sky a few times. Here's a video!

SECOND FUN FACT: Blue jays have been slowly expanding their range westward because of climate change, and that has resulted in hybrid blue/steller's jays popping up! It's probably not a good thing but still extremely cool to see! Here are the birds along with some photos of one of these hybrids
