simon would sit in the mess hall, not just to show face but also to be with the rest of his squad. price had to push him to join, but now he came of his own choice. it was something he did, not too often, but often enough.

on this particular day, you had gotten back from a mission all but a few hours ago. simon had been gone for a few weeks prior to you leaving, so you hadn't seen him in nearly a month and a half.

you walked into the mess hall, simon could see you from where he was sitting. you grabbed your tray of food and looked around to find where you were going to sit. he saw you move towards your squad before spotting him, sitting in front of soap and gaz.

so you made your way over, shuffling between people who were standing around and having to take a few different routes to get to them. dropping your tray down, you sat next to simon.

soap went to snag some food off of your tray and you smacked his hand, giving him a face as you did so. the three of you were talking, about what simon wasn't entirely sure of. he was trying to look at you while not completely giving himself away.

god, he loved you. more than you'd possibly ever know. catching his eye, you gave him a slightly confused face and you could see his eyes slightly squint with a little smile.

smiling back, you dove back into your conversation with soap and gaz. '...didn't realize that was something he did,' you said as simon came back into the conversation.

soap gave a little laugh, rolling his eyes. 'oh, gaz is a real charmer. spilled his pint o' beer on a lady once in a bar. you remember that, right ghost?' and simon nodded, giving a little grunt as he did so.

he still watched you, the light shining in your eye and the color slowly returning to your face as everything began to go back to your normal. he knew how much you missed this during missions, and even with the bags under your eyes he still thought you were as beautiful as ever.

the conversation waned, soap and gaz beginning to argue a little. your knee pressed against his, allowing your legs to touch. the only bit of pda he would allow with other soldiers around. with his mask on.

even though gaz and price knew, he kept it a secret from the loud mouthed scot. he knew, as much as he (unwillingly) cared for soap, word would spread fast if he knew it.

and the two of you spoke often about possibly bringing him in on the secret. possibly even just coming out as a couple at the nearest milball.

as much as the conversations happened, that was two milballs ago. three years you had been together, and just six months ago he had popped you the question. he knew exactly where that ring lay, on a long chain sitting just on your sternum.

some nights, he would kiss it. long and hard as he prayed to whatever being would listen that the two of you returned safe from the mission you were next on. other times, he tugged on it to pull you in for kisses.

there would even be a few nights that he would just play with it, feeling the heat of the metal from where it would rest against your skin. he loved that you kept it so close to your heart, and kenw that once the two of you married you wedding band would sit just there.

his own would sit against his heart, as soon as he got it.

a sharp pain from his bicep pulled him from his thoughts, looking down at where you bit him. clenching your teeth a little harder, you finally released him.

'what the hell was that,' soap sputtered out. looking between you, then simon and gaz. gaz gave him a little shrug, looking away as you leaned for another bite.

simon pushed your head away from his arm. 'don't bite me, you little mosquito,' he huffed at you. you gave him a cheeky little smile, winking at him before digging back into your food.

soap gestured wildly. 'no, i want to know what's going on. what the hell. why the hell?'and you gave soap a little laugh.

pulling the chain from under your shirt, you dangled the ring and chain in front of him. 'technically, we are still planning the wedding,' and you grunted as soap kicked you.

'and why wasn't i told?' he hissed at the two of you. you gave a faint shrug, playing with some of the food on your plate. you faught like hell to tell soap, but respected simons decision.

'you've got a loud mouth,'

'i do not!' soap nearly shouted. 'i absolutely do not,' he then whispered. you laughed and tapped your knee against simons.

Hey, do you want an even wilder fun fact about the original structure/ending of new moon? Apparently the Volturi weren't originally in it at all!!!!

No word about what happened instead, but smeyer said in her 2009 Oprah interview that in the very first draft it was "all in bella's head," but when she talked to her mom about it, she recommended more action at the end, so she put the Volturi in. (Talk about no tension or ticking clock.)

"Morning sickness is a lie." you would grumble because you've been hunched over the toilet since 8 am and now it's nearly 2. maul's been there on and off, only leaving to get you water and small things for you to try and eat (which has only lead to you up-chucking them immediately), and now he's semi-concerned, but says, "It's all part of the experience, my love." and you'd nod, but before you can respond, you’re throwing up again.

"There's nothing even left inside me!" you cry, utterly defeated and near tears, but maul rubs your back and kisses your shoulder and brushes loose strands of your hair behind your ears. “If I could relieve this burden, I would in an instant.” he murmurs and you giggle softly when he nuzzles his face against your neck.

“I know you would.” you sigh, gathering enough strength to turn around and climb into his lap without making yourself dizzy and nauseous. and it’s an effort too, because your tired and your breasts decided to really start aching at that exact moment, and you just melt against maul. he hums, basically cradling you, kissing your shoulder and cheek (for as much as he does want to properly kiss you, you have been vomiting so).

“I would do anything for you, sweet girl.” maul would say against the skin of your neck, and you know he means it.

thankfully the morning sickness lets up several months later, but the trade off is you’re left with a bowling ball in your tummy, leaky breasts, and aching joints. and you’re sweaty all the time, and hungry, and sometimes you get mood swings, and you’re also unreasonably horny (which maul isn’t complaining about), and to top it all off, the baby decides to kick up a STORM sometimes.

“Oh! Take it easy on Mama!” you’d say after a particularly hard kick that had you jolting a little bit, attempting to sooth the baby inside you by rubbing your belly. unfortunately, your child is also maul’s, so it decides to kick again, honestly feeling harder than the last time. you groan, the discomfort weighing a bit more than the excitement in this case.

“Be kind to your mother.” maul says from beside you, reaching over to place a firm, but careful hand on your maternal swell. he doesn’t look up from the book he’s reading on a holopad, but he starts to move his hand in slow, rhythmic circles. you sigh, the warmth and weight of his hand soothing against your taut skin. it doesn’t make the baby stop moving, it still squirms inside of your womb like there’s no tomorrow, but it stops kicking so roughly.

“Mm... Your hands are magic, Maul.” you murmur, eyes closed, placing your hand atop his and following the circles he’s making. maul chuckles, “I am one with the Force, dearest.” and his sarcastic answer makes you stick your tongue out at him, but you cuddle up next to him anyways, because now the baby’s apparently taking a rest because it’s stopped doing flips in your belly.

“... Would you like to speak to it?” you ask after a few moments and maul looks over, surprised, and hesitates briefly, but when you shift to sit opposite of him (an ordeal all in itself) he concedes with a quiet, “Of course.” maul sets his hands on either side of your belly, leans in to plant a kiss to your newly-outie belly button, and leaves his lips close to you.

“I cannot wait to meet you, little one. There is not a day that goes by where I don’t think of holding you in my arms, seeing your tiny face, your tiny hands.” maul whispers, rubbing your belly and bringing tears to your eyes. he continues, “I want you to meet your beautiful, wonderful mother. She’s been so strong, carrying you within her womb, and you must feel how much she loves you.” and now you’re crying because pregnancy hormones make you so sensitive and maul makes you so happy, so you blubber, “Maul! I love you so much!” and even though you’re crying and your face is flushed and wet, maul kisses you, swallows your happy sobs and kisses you over and over again.

“I love you.” he replies in between kisses and he pats your belly lightly. “And I love this one too.”
