Under his cheery attitude he is grieving the loss of the world. It's his first Christmas with you back and he wants the rest of the family. Nate/Nora and young Shaun, along with brothers and sisters, and uncles and cousins. But he forces himself to stay positive. Not focus on 'what was' and focus on 'what is'.

[Danse] "Say the word and I'll be there. Whatever you need."

He's more concerned with helping. Having a huge party was something he's never done. Back in the Brotherhood all holiday affairs were kept under wraps. So in all the new excitement he doesn't really care about the day itself, more like being involved.

[Deacon] "Tell me, [Name], have you been a good boy/girl?"

You will not see him outside any sort of costume the entire night. And he has several lined up. Santa, Rudolph, an elf, scrooge pj's. He's also seen with a drink always in his hand. Whether or not it's the same drink, no one knows.

[Hancock] "I'm probably already on the naughty list so let's just have fun."

The entire town of Good Neighbor is partying like the Santa's actually gonna join them. There's a stupid amount of milk and cookies considering the fact none of them are chemed or spiked. They also have a giant white elephant with all the presents.

[MacCready] "What the hell is Christmas?"

In Little Lamp Light they didn't have the tradition and after leaving he never let himself indulge in it so he never learn what exactly it was. To him it's just a gift exchange. Explaining it to him isn't easy either. A big old man, who wears red, flies all over the world in one night in a sleigh with reindeer delivering presents to all the children. What is a reindeer? How? Why?

[Nick] "Merry Christmas, pal/doll. You deserve a break."

No matter what relationship you have with him, he's going to catch you under the mistletoe to tease you. Especially if he's a sort of mentor to you. He thinks it's cute. Besides that, he makes sure you're relaxing and not worried about anything so you can have a break.

[Preston] "I'm glad we did this. It's nice to see everyone warm."

For him, Christmas is the most stressful holiday, given that it's the coldest and people tend to fight over gifts. But it's still a holiday so it's nice. He's also almost immediately buried in gifts by settlers.

[X6] "Happy holidays."

He doesn't care in any meaningful capacity other than you celebrating, he has enough decency to keep it to himself though. You know he wasn't going to give you a gift so he doesn't. If you get him anything he'll take it and tell you why he likes it as an effort to be nice.

Kay Sees Regional Cats

I saw my first regional Cats production the other day! It was so exciting to go see a local theater production of Cats. I'll be honest, I don't really pay much mind to the regional production bootlegs of Cats that exist on YouTube. But when I learned a theater only an hour from me was putting on Cats, I knew I had to go, especially since the US tour ended and there's been no news in site of any official production picking up anytime soon.

My expectations were fairly low- I knew going in it was just a small community theater doing the show, and it obviously wasn't going to be anywhere near the official production. That said, the performance was incredible and blew my small expectations totally out of the water. This is going to be a long write-up of all my thoughts on the vocals, dancing, and character interpretations, so thank you for anyone who decides to read my ramblings!

Here's a photo of the set and the cast list.

One thing you may notice is, well, how many cats there are. From my understanding, the performing arts center who put this on combined their theater department and their dancing department. The majority of the cats were played by young dancers who only appeared on stage during the heavy dance numbers. Yes, there were many kids in this show.

In fact, all the vocals were done by and really only by Munkustrap, Tugger, Demeter, Bombalurina, Jemima, Old Deut, Jelly, Jenny, Skimble, Griz, Bustopher and Gus.

Costume wise, the unitards and warmers were the weakest part. Very faded looking unitards with normal winter-wear warmers rather than the standard Cats warmers. The wigs and makeup were all London replica, and a lot of the wigs were so nice. I assume most of them just looked up their characters and did whatever makeup first popped up on Google.

The Munkustrap was incredible, by far the best Munk vocally that I've ever seen. I could not rave enough about him. He did everything perfectly, and I would love to see his performer go on to play him in an actual official production.

Jenny was so fun, and she actually stayed in her Gumbie coat the entire show. She would frequently just nap during numbers.

Demeter slept during Tugger's number and looked annoyed and hissed at him when he tried to interact with her during it. Queen shit, honestly.

Bustopher and Gus were played by two separate performers, which meant Bustopher got to hang on stage the entire time! Also, he had his giant spoon.

Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer did not sing their song. They were both played by dancers, while Bomb and Munk sang the song in the background. It was an interesting choice, but like I said, I love Munk's vocals, so I was happy to hear more of him.

The Jellicle Ball itself was cut down significantly. There was no pas de deux, and they didn't do the part where Griz shows up halfway through. This was probably my biggest disappointment for the entire show, but I also wasn't all that surprised.

A change that I really loved and would love to see implemented was Old Deut AND Jemima staying to listen to the Memory prelude.

During Moments of Happiness, Old Deut himself reached out and led Jemima up to sing her lines. The Jemima had a BEAUTIFUL voice as well.

Jelly and Gus were SO good. Her voice was perfect for the character, and it was so nice getting to see a performer who wasn't John Anker Bow as Gus. This production did Gus Pekes. Demeter and Tantomile were the lead Peke and Pollicle, which I thought was cute. Also, they added a fun bit where Gus got a hairball when he came out as the Rumpus Cat.

A small detail was that Griz was in the back basically the entire time singing along. Seeing her hiding away, but still singing along with everyone made her character feel even more tragic.

Macavity didn't kidnap Old Deut persay as much as he just led him away with a giant cat toy. It was so silly (in the most positive way possible)

The Macavity number was interesting, and not in a bad way. Demeter and Bomb took turns singing into a microphone and would physically push one another out of the way. As someone who wishes the professional productions would have Demeter and Bomb be Meaner to one another, this really scratched my itch for them to be more catty to one another.

During the Macavity fight, Tanto and Cori were the ones who led Demeter to safety. Ships were the farthest thing from my mind when watching this production, but Demeter and Tantomile were so close in this production. and I just really loved that, and it makes me wanna make them close in my hcs now.

Tugger helped Munk fight Mac!! And it was bad ass!! I loved it. More Tugger fighting please and thank you

I don't really have much to say about Misto. He was played by a younger dancer, and the solo was about what you would expect from a regional production. It was still fun to see, and just sparked so much joy just hearing the song in general.

Griz sang directly to Demeter for a lot of Memory. Her voice was great, no complaints there. I honestly thought they were going to have Demeter be the first to touch her, but that honor was given to Old Deut and Munk instead.

The Ad-Dressing really got me. I already get emotional whenever I hear the song normally, but hearing it live even at just a regional production after so long almost made me break down. The cats all came into the aisles too!!

And that was my experience at regional Cats! All in all, it was so much better than I expected, and I had such a fun time. If there's ever a local theater doing Cats near you, definitely go and check it out. Supporting local theater is important, and who knows, you might be completely blown away by some of the performers you see. I know I was!

Find a horse that at least looks like the one I had in breath of the wild, my beloved baby boy Romeo who can do and hasn't done nothing wrong ever in the entire 6 years of his life (he kicked me off a cliff four separate times):

Go to Gerudo desert because out of all regions it's the one I'm the most interested in seeing the state of post Ganondorf resurrection(?) murderous pissy fit.

I'm going to build me a big fuck off Zonai tractor.

Zelda. I need to know if she's alright, I would like to find out this earlier on but that's probably going to be found out through story and I really do want to take my time with it.

I need to see what the hell is happening with this korok with a backpack:

I need to find out if I can glue two Royal claymores together (or an equivalent) to make a big fuck off abomination claymore that does double claymore damage that looks like this:

Go back to eventide. I wonder if they added something there. It seems like something thats a no brainer to do.

Check out what the fuck is going on with the labyrinths I can't find the screenshots now but I remember seeing some of them floating with the sky islands at some point.

If if I can find a sky island resembling at least a little bit of skyloft. I feel it in my bones that Nintendo would pull that type of shit. Or not because this is also Nintendo.

Documenting literally every even hint of a zelink moment in the entire game so I can make several posts gushing over it in the future.

Take lots of screenshots! I actually played breath of the wild on wii u and never on switch so of course I never really had that screenshot or recording capability so I finally can really go all out in this game.

The dragon that is 10000% a fucking Gleeok on the bridge of Hylia I've already determined is going to be the first overworld boss I fight. 🙂 I can't wait to fight it with only five or so hearts 🙂

Amd finally since amiibo support is confirmed and costumes are too - the artbook actually confirmed it but I don't really think that's a spoiler because it's a very obvious mechanic to bring back than just having them be used once only for the paraglider skins you get that was officially confirmed here below so I can't wait to get my ocarina of time and twilight princess gear back that I can wear for the whole game!

Over all I just really want to have fun in this game and really it looks like it's going to deliver. I can't wait to sink hundreds if not thousands of hours into and I REALLY REALLY hope it can at least fix a lot of it's predecessors issues, especially with how it executes it's story. I keep saying it, breath of the wild *had* the potential to be one of the best zelda stories ever but it was done so extremely poorly trying to tell it, majority of it is just ruined. I sincerely hope Nintendo has learned their lesson from that and actually let the Link/you the player actually play throughand experience the games narrative instead of just... having it exposition dumped onto you over and over in flashback cutscenes as stuff that's already happened and can't be changed. I went having this game with very low confidence it was first revealed in 2019, but the more and more I keep seeing it now the higher my optimism gets and I actually genuinely hope this game is really good.

I'm actually wishing the best for it and desperately hope it doesn't disappoint. We've all waited so long, and now we have only a little bit more to go.

Favorite thing about her:

There's a lot I like about Tear. She's the sort of serious, knightly figure (with a secret emotional side) that I often gravitate towards. I think the game does a good job positioning her between the hero party and the villain party -- primarily through her relationship with Van, but also through her connections to Legretta and Mohs, and even Yulia and the Score that everyone's fighting over. Early in the game, she's very much on her own side, not really aligning herself with Luke until after Akzeriuth. But I'd say my favorite thing is her character design. I think she's just beautiful, the contrast of the ashy brown hair (and so long and sleek) with her piercing blue eyes. I really like that her costume is predominantly brown -- a color that often feels underused in character design -- and her dress variously suggests a sorceress' gown, a knightly tabard, maybe even a nun's habit. (And of course a cello.) You can see at a glance that she's a serious, mature character, but she also loves beauty, which we initially see through her music.

Least favorite thing about her:

I know there's some debate in the fandom over this, but I feel like her English voice actor didn't get the best direction. Tonally, I think the voice is a good fit for her, and it makes sense for Tear's performance to be downplayed and subtle. But I feel like she sometimes sounds a little too lifeless -- maybe if they'd voiced the skits, where Tear gets her more funny and emotional moments, the performance would feel more rounded.

Favorite line:

Having just said that, I think there are some moments where her VA does bring it. Her first scene at Fabre Manor, when she shouts that she's going to kill Van, that's a great moment. I also think the scene in Daath's library before the Tower of Rem, where she tells Luke that she'll hate him if he becomes a hero, the VA does a good job of making her sound both stern and deeply shaken. Her "I love you" is also well done, emotional without sounding sappy or forced. I could pick any of those, but I'm going to go with her screaming "Luke! Stop!" at the Tower of Rem. I love that we've had this build up of her refusing to interfere with his choice, being logical, being his composed, mature mentor -- and then at the crucial moment, she can't do it. She breaks down and tries to stop him because even for her, her heart is stronger than any number of logical arguments.

brOTP:

I've never really considered this. I've always assumed (and the game shows) that she's really close to Natalia and Anise, and I think she always would be. If asked who her best friend was, she'd probably say Natalia. They have a good, contrasting chemistry, Natalia wearing her heart on her sleeve, being very forceful and even naive at times, while Tear probably needs a more upbeat person to bring her out of her shell; despite that, they still have a lot in common, fighting alongside each other, both of them being motivated by a strong sense of service and altruism. But thinking outside the box, it's sad that we never really see her interact one on one with, say, Jade. What's their dynamic like, when none of the other party members are around? I also think it would be really fun if, after the game, she became close to Peony through their shared interest in rappigs. She would shake her head at his eccentricities and (unsuccessfully) try to reel him in from time to time. But I would guess that out of anyone in the game, Tear would be the most enthusiastic about his amazing pets. I'd love to see them going to a rappig show or something together, or maybe picking a new rappig for the imperial pigpen Peony's bedroom.

OTP:

I wouldn't say I have an OTP for her. I like LukeTear -- I know not every Abyss fan enjoys it, but I think it's a compelling, character-based slow burn. They seem drawn together because of each others' personalities, not just circumstances; they operate as friends as well as a romantic couple; they seem to bring out each others' good traits. And I've always liked how Abyss takes the idea of the stern, professional soldier protecting the softer, untested noble, but flips the typical genders. And of course Luke grows until he's strong enough to protect her in turn. But while I like it, LukeTear doesn't rise to the level of an OTP for me.

nOTP:

Nothing too fancy for this one, not her immediate family or anything. Thinking over the fandom, it's a bit surprising there isn't more variety when it comes to shipping her.

Random headcanon:

I don't have one. Though in turning the question over, I realized I'd love to know what was going through her head when she was standing with Luke in her garden and he asked for a knife. She's surprised by what he does, so what was she expecting? That could be an interesting character moment to explore.

Unpopular opinion:

As much as I like her costume, I think it looks kind of bad when animated. It's so stiff, all these weird flaps and angles sticking out. It looks great when she's standing still, awkward as all get out as soon as she goes faster than a walk.

Song I associate with her:

"Let Her Feel the Rain" by Tara MacLean. It's more about the mood than the lyrics. (Though some of them do feel Tear-ish -- they say when she cries her teardrops turn to ice; you will kneel before her at her altar imageries.) Ages ago, I did one of those memes where you had to randomly pick ten songs and draw a fan art during each song's duration. "Let Her Feel the Rain" made me think of Tear, and ever since then it always has.

I totally get that not all the cards are the most fun, as those are based on my partner's and my likes and limits and we're all different, but there is a wide variety so you should be able to be picky!

Regarding all your ideas, thanks a lot! I'll admit I've already done a card close to most of them (or Tumblr didn't let me... rules, you know...), so if they are doable but aren't on the blog already, they probably are in the 900ish sitting in the queue. You'll have to scroll through the archives or be a bit patient ;)

if i call it shabbosposting i can post it on friday OR saturday. two days worth of possibility

i got too much damn stuff to do on most tuesdays to justify sitting down and writing a weekly roundup post. by friday my brain is sufficiently sludge enough that i really don't lose anything by spending 90 minutes doing this instead

making: almost done with my laptop case! i also finally have mentally committed to redoing the stupid straps on the tank top i may never wear because it's a little tight on me. :( no photos yet but some stuff came out of the kiln to be glazed which is very exciting! i also made a little 6-well watercolor mixing palette, just gonnna glaze it plain white and hopefully get some good use out of it!

misc: halloweekend........i don't have a costume yet :") probably just going to nebulously be a witch, i guess? i really didn't have time to put together something fun this year...my roommate is being elegant mothman for a costume wedding she's going to next week which i will definitely steal for a future halloween. but for this year. blah. just wasn't really inspired by anything. a group of people are going to to various local halloween events downtown both tonight AND tomorrow and frankly i do not have that kind of energy! i will probably go out tomorrow night but tonight i might just play magic the gathering :x

Cosplay Diary -- [Intro to costumes!]

Eight (Splatoon)

Shoes: Black Heels fitted with insoles to account for me never wearing heels. I've purchased two black zippers and some grommits to add superficially for the sake of design matching. (Who has a front facing shoe zipper??) Leggings: Eight doesn't canonically have leggings, but I'm hoping to do some for the costume, translucent ones splattered with ink/paint! I've got leggings, I've got paint, but I haven't painted anything yet Skirt: I've pinned it in further with safety pins to get a tighter fit, and plan on sewing over the fold I've made to adjust the fit (if it'll fit under my machine...). I'd also like to hem it slightly, since Eight's skirt is pretty short. Jacket: Bit big on me, and the zips too centered, but it works. Need to cut off the sleeve and cut and hem the bottom edge without murdering the existing zipper. Wig: So I've never done a tentacle wig before, but my plan is simple. I will construct 4 plush tentacles to be mounted onto an old baseball cap I found and will chop the brim off of. (That's what the bedsheets are for)

Notes: Lots to do on Eight, but a lot of the planning is done so it's mainly getting to sit down and do it. My next step is to sew the skirt and finish it up, then work on the jacket, then wig. I've done a prototype tentacle for the wig and it went well, so I'll be making another with the proper fabrics, to check sizing, then get started on that.

Dot (Pokemon)

Slippers: Managed to get those today! I'll be adding the decorative stuff to make them snorlax themed, and hopefully adding a band around the back as well. Sweatpants: A wonderful find at the thrift store! (Actually, everything here is from the thrift store for the most part. The slippers, and leggings are the only exceptions, from a walmart and dollar store respectively.) Tank Top: I love thrift store. Cardigan: The real meat of this costume, an entirely handknit cardigan. while the pattern isn't perfectly Dots, please forgive me because I've never knit a cardigan before. Actually I've only ever knit scarves, and its been a few years. I've done all body panels and one sleeve, leaving only the second sleeve and the collar trim left for the body of the cardigan. I'd also like to add pockets. Dot's cardigan has a hood, which I won't be priotizing for now (mainly because i do not know how to do that and I'm short for time.), but i've got a pair of really fuzzy socks I plan on using to make the puff balls. I'll be giving them buttons, so they'll be able to be detatched for ease of washing. (Hopefully I can do the same for the tail?) Wig: A dear friend has pledged to mail me a purple wig I'm hoping to use for this, we'll see if the post is good on getting it to me in time. the only thing I really still need to get for these costumes is the pink extensions I'll use for her highlights. I plan on doing her hair back style (because I need. to see.), and have a hairband. I'll probably use glue and hairspray to make flicked back hair I can then clip in and secure to the base wig for the bangs.... That's the plan anyway.

Notes: A lot closer to finished with Dot, big thanks to prexisting clothes from thrift stores. Which is great because I don't wanna make normal sweatpants n tank tops and things! Cardigan knitting has been going well, and I hope to finish the second sleeve Soon. It's been a long while knitting this, but I'm nearly there! Not super experienced with wig work, but hey this cosplays for fun not a contest so I don't wanna sweat it too much.

Feelings pretty good about things right now! If progress is made faster than expected, I might do a third costume, but we'll see. Haven't figured out which I'm wearing what day yet...

[Hmmm I can't say I have any like big thoughts or probably groundbreaking opinions on it or anything. I do love good unique character design, whether that's in full body appearance for like aliens and inhuman creatures or simply in wardrobe. It makes the content more exciting and appealing to the eye and overall just more interesting than just slapping on Basic Clothes or making Another Humanoid Alien (which DB is bad at doing unfortunately but I can't say much because, even though I tried in the fic to make some more interesting aliens, I feel I could have done more BUT).

Obviously, basic clothes are necessary depending on the setting, story, etc. But like...in stuff that's meant to be fantastical, removed from our present time, or on a completely different planet or in a different realm, I don't really care to see characters wearing basic street clothes. A few examples of what I mean. Maybe this is me just not "being with the times" but I would much rather see superheroes when they're superheroing to be wearing some kind of cool costume with a neat design. And I don't know if this all that common but eh. Plain clothes superheroes (the only example that comes to mind is like a Percy Jackson type; basically someone who could be seen as a superhero but not like in the comic book sort of way if that makes sense) that aren't meant to BE THAT very specifically (i.e. Batman deciding to get rid of the costume and run around in jeans and a tee) just don't do it for me. Another example is I didn't really care for how they had the characters in Harry Potter wear street clothes while at Hogwarts. Again, a really stupid complaint (if I'd call it that), but again, we're in a fantastical setting that's meant to be different than ours with clothing that is pointed out to be very different than the Muggle style of clothing numerous times. I want to see that in practice more than I want to see the main cast wearing jeans and t-shirts I guess if that makes sense.

And now for me to be hypocritical tho. Ish. Taking DragonBall as the example, I love when they put Goku, Gohan, Vegeta (even if the dumb dad clothes the put on him in Super suck and don't suit him cough), and even Piccolo and all the others get put in "normal" outfits in their downtime. Especially because plenty of those have been iconic lmao. I guess that goes just with liek the superheroes in their down time wearing normal clothes so maybe I'm not a hypocrite for this. But I think I like it because it makes seeing them in normal clothing that isn't their fighting/standard outfit more special and fun than if the always wore street clothes? Again this is all really trivial shit for me lmao.

Now as far as like designs of inhuman or alien characters? I definitely want originality because I find it hard to believe that every alien race would just look human save for one or two features (looking at you Saiyans, even if I do love them lmao). DB probably isn't the worst about this, but considering it's the series I've got the most brain rot for, they get to be the example. They could definitely do better with character design, especially when it comes to the alien races. Like the simplest thing for them to do is not make everything bipedal. Give this alien a hundred legs and that's already more interesting for DB lmao. Give us less humanoid features in general and they would be doing better. Like all of your alien OCs are so cool and thought out (which we would definitely not get from Toriyama lol) and I know other series have interesting designs for their aliens that aren't just...human with a few spikes and a "weird" skin tone.

Long story short: while I'm not going to shit on an entire series for lackluster character design, I do appreciate it and dig originality in it.]

Holy cow, she looks like Tzipporah from the Prince of Egypt. Which is funny because that is my favorite movie and Tzipporah is my favorite character aside from Queen Tuya. However, it is not her at all.

This is Oliza. Not quite how I've always envisioned her, but I do like how she turned out. And there is a story to be told here.

So today was kind of a free day for my class and we got out crayons and paper for them to draw. Both I and my co-teacher decided to join them and just for fun I decided to draw Oliza. You might see traces of the crayon here and there, plus a contribution from one of my students in the form of a purple squiggle. I started out with crayon, but then decided to add marker (we have some special ones that I used for many of the details). I had wanted to use tan for her skin tone, since I do see Oliza with lighter skin, but I could not find a tan crayon and this one marker seemed promising (the swatch test up there).

Not the best, but I think you can make out the brows that are just like the ones I'd given Sisal.

For her outfit I gave her a simple dancer's costume, but I was going to make it purple. But then I thought about it. Plum is the color of mourning for the serpiente and it is a shade of purple, so I feel like purple in general is a color avoided unless mourning. I decided to go with green after a further debate.

Unlike Sive, Oliza is never described wearing jewelry, but I felt like she needed something and the one gold bangle is iconic because her daughter (Hai) has one. I then gave her a cobra bracelet, complete with red eyes to fit the Cobriana.

She also has her hair done up in a braid down her back. I mentioned on Sisal's picture that I imagine the Serpiente wear their hair loose for the most part, get some swishy action when dancing. But they will probably wear it up when serving in the army. The avians I feel put their hair up to keep it from blowing in their faces when flying and it kind of makes them look put together. I made the bands be silver since she is a member of royalty and can avoid precious metals, hence the gold on her arms and the silver in her hair.

I did not add any gold or red to her hair. I feel like that would be more of an effect on her snake/wyvern form. Kind of like an iridescent shimmer. In human form, Oliza has normal black hair like any member of the cobra royal family.

Hmm...I think this was a good try with what materials I had on hand. I will probably do a digital version since I now have my computer and also kind of have an idea on how she is going to look.

As for the character herself...I love Oliza, but she is a very complicated person for me. I will not say any more, except that Oliza in my rewrite is Bi. She is married to a man (Nicias), but has had relationships with men and women. Something that came to mind while at work is that maybe Avian does engage in a few relationships before being formally joined. Obviously, any kind of physical contact is not allowed, but you can offer flowers and poems.

Kind of a means for the young people to decide if they want to go through with the arrangement or not.

I only dress up for Halloween if I have a reason to, like a party to go to or something. I do enjoy it though! I used to do Halloween looks just for fun but as I've gotten older my SFX makeup stash has expired and not been replenished, plus I have other hobbies I'd rather sink my money into these days. This year on Halloween day I'll be going to Tokyo Disneyland with my cousin/bestie Misaki so if I do a look at all it'll be something simple. I'm usually a makeup-focused costume kinda person and we still wear our masks everywhere (even outside) here in Japan so it would be sorta pointless lol.

pumpkin— how do you feel about horror movies? do you like psychological thrillers more or jump-scare oriented movies?

I love SFX makeup so any excuse to consume media with lots of it is fun for me. I'm a huge horror movie lover but I'm picky with the types of horror I like. Idk probably has to do with having anxiety but I love to feel scared in a controlled environment. Psychological thrillers are okay but not my favorite, and jump-scares are really easy for me to predict so they have to be done well or they won't affect me. My favorite types of horror movies are ones that incorporate multiple types of scares, and the genre I enjoy most is ghost/haunting or possession/exorcist stuff. Bonus if there's a little mystery and plot twist in there too!

A Regency Re-Do

Several years ago (possibly 2014) I took my first foray into historical costuming and made a vaguely Regency-era dress using a dark green cotton and Simplicity 4055 (which is evidently no longer in print). I was proud of how it turned out then, and frankly I'm still proud of it, considering my lack of sewing knowledge at the time. Since then I've done more research and learned more about sewing, so I decided to make some slight alterations to the dress.

Or it started as "slight" alterations - just making the sleeves shorter and letting out the hem. Then, much in the style of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie," I decided that I wanted to re-set the sleeve completely, and fix the neck drawstring casing, and I should probably fix the waist drawstring too, and, well, I might as well just remove the bodice completely and re-pleat the skirt...

Yeah.

When I put on the dress to decide on alterations, I discovered that the gathering in the sleeves was more toward the front of the dress, which gave them an awkward look. So, I grabbed my seam ripper and removed the sleeves. After a quick iron, I re-set them by machine, keeping all the gathering in the upper back panel of the bodice (see the picture below). I tried it on again and discovered that re-setting the sleeves that way also fixed an issue I was having that limited my arm mobility!

The dress was originally long-sleeved, but they were a bit too short for my arms. I like the elbow-length sleeves seen in a lot of fashion plates from the era, so I cut off the bottom of the sleeve and hemmed the new sleeve by hand.

Seeing the nice hand stitching compared to my wonky, inexperienced machine stitching on the neckline drawstring casing convinced me to rip out that stitching and re-sew it by hand with a simple running stitch. I also decided to make the casing slightly narrower - somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2", instead of 3/4". This had the added benefit of making the gathered drawstring look neater.

And If I re-do the neckline casing, I had better make the waistline casing match, right? So I picked up my seam ripper once again.

Unfortunately, that gave me an up-close-and-personal look at where the bodice and skirt were attached. The inside bodice (it's two layers) had been topstitched to encase the raw edge of the skirt, but I hadn't turned under the raw edge of the inside bodice! So, of course, I had to re-do that, too. At some point I picked at the wrong line of stitching and...

Well, I didn't like the way the back of the skirt was gathered anyway.

So the skirt was removed, ironed, re-pleated, and reattached by machine. Then the lower edge of the inner bodice was turned under and stitched down by hand. A running stitch finished off the drawstring casing at the waist.

That just left the hem. Like the sleeves, it was a bit shorter than I liked (or perhaps I was shorter when I first made the dress). Luckily, it had a fairly deep hem - there were just over two inches of fabric available. So out came the seam ripper and the iron and the needle and thread, and I gave the skirt a narrow, hand-sewn hem. And, finally (FINALLY), I was done.

Ultimately, the dress doesn't look drastically different than it originally did (despite the fact that I completely removed the bodice and sleeves), but I'm still much happier with how it looks! It was kind of fun to look back at something I sewed so long ago and see how far my skills have come, too.

I might like to re-do the sleeves again in the future. They are very loose around the arm, which I don't think is very flattering, and most fashion plates and paintings from the era show more snug sleeves. I might also remove the machine top-stitching around the back closure. We'll see.

what's your favorite character design detail for each of the main cast?

OOOooh!! Okay YEs!!

For Ranboo Beloved, it would be the adaptation of the different Teuta Matoshi dresses. I am in love with this designer and every dress that she creates, so having a focal point every time I sit down to design a costume has been really great! I have another post that talks about the dresses that are being adapted, you can find it here.

For Tubbo Underscore, it would probably be his hearing aids and my adaptation of his canon scars to fit into the universe of the fic! I personally do not use hearing aids (I am hard of hearing in a way that does not allow use of hearing aids) but being able to write about a character and his use of hearing aids is really fun for me! The hearing aids he uses is two separate types: a cochlear implant and a behind the ear hearing aid. His canon scars have a reason behind them in this fic that makes the injury make sense in this universe.

For Tommy Innit it would actually be the design of his prosthetic leg. I haven’t done a post on it yet, but it is a bit different compared to a normal leg prosthesis. I will do a post on it soon but the main details is that it has stickers on it that he stuck on it for fun: a disc, a flag, a bee, a crown, an emerald, and so on!

For Philza it would be his crow head cane! Philza had an injury from years prior to the beginning of the fic/au that led to him having a lot of balance problems and leg weakness. Because of this he uses a cane that is a dark oak wood and is topped with a silver crow head.

For Wilbur it would be his fluffy hair. That combined with his professor/academia vibes that he has! He spends so much time studying or teaching that most of the time he has a pen stuck behind his ear and his shoulder bag with him.

For Technoblade, he has heterochromia! Which is mismatched eyes, one is blue, one is brown. This is simply because I wanted too, but then also it fits into the overall aesthetic that I've given wyrtt's version of Techno: with his full skeleton arm sleeve tattoo and long pink hair but is also in college to be a professor. He has dark academia vibes!

For Dream it would probably be his snake bites! Dream has snake bite piercings, he usually wears ball piercings on his lips and wears them while preforming his programs.
