the "Ryho" mindset is still happening
I didn’t like how part of the fandom treated Ryan during the pre-split years. This might end up being a lengthy explanation but bear with me because it’s relevant to the modern fandom.
So it was a well-known fact in 2006 that Ryan was straightedge/sober (Spencer was too, but he got less attention from the media). Being straightedge kind of became part of Ryan’s image (here’s a random example) and a lot of fans really connected with that. Then Ryan got drunk for the first time at the end of 2006, and we started seeing pictures of him partying with friends in early 2007 before the band even went to the cabin.
By summer 2007 Ryan was like a completely different person. I get that the drugs & alcohol probably helped him become more outgoing, but I also think he was just becoming way more confident & comfortable as he grew up. And SO many fans seriously hated the change. Fans still randomly criticized the other 3 guys, but that stuff seemed more like the regular small complaints that happen just for the sake of complaining when people are bored (ex: Jon’s beard existing or vanishing). The stuff about Ryan was very different in tone and there were some consistent themes throughout the last half of 2007: Ryan was too in love with Keltie, he dressed like a hippie now, and he partied a lot. Basically, he was changing. He was no longer the same person that he was during the Fever era.
It honestly seemed like many fans were angry at this new version of Ryan for taking the old version away from them, as though they had some sort of ownership. There was tons of drama over the fact that we were seeing lots of pictures of Ryan partying with various friends (some of whom posted detailed stories about their nights or how drunk everyone was). Some fans said Ryan was a hypocrite or a liar and tried to make him out to be an alcoholic, as though he’d personally betrayed them by destroying who he was "supposed" to be.
However, I think most of the complaints were actually rooted in something bigger: Ryan looked happy.
I felt like a lot of the younger fans had latched onto the idea of a shy, wounded guitarist who needed to be saved or *understood* or whatever… you know the cliche I mean??  That was the vibe that the media sometimes tried to give him during the Fever era, so even they knew it would sell! But now Ryan was partying a lot with a wide range of friends, was dating Keltie, had completely abandoned his Fever-era aesthetic, and seemed to be closest with Jon in 2007 instead of Brendon. He was “destroying” the static image of Ryan that fangirls had taped onto their bedroom walls.
I remember a decent amount of fans actually admitting that they wished Ryan would go back to being depressed. Like they literally wanted him to be unhappy & unsure of himself because they liked him better that way. Others accepted that Ryan was changing and were happy for him, but still thought his bitter lyrics were better. And then even if other people wouldn’t admit that they were clinging onto an old version of Ryan, their main criticism still seemed to revolve around the fact that Ryan was living his life, having fun, and being different than he was the previous year.
I saved one fan’s post because it summed up some of the complaints this year:
Tumblr media
The nickname “Ryho” really took off in late 2007.
Obviously a ton of fans loved Ryan (and the kids who were bashing him still claimed to love him too). The petty criticism just became annoying to me. People slammed his new clothes, his new hairstyles, the way he carried himself or talked, his weight/body, his “creepy” fingers, and the “girly” things he told Kerrang he liked (pumpkin spice candles, vanilla milkshakes, his puppy, and Titanic). Even the kids who used to love Ryan’s mild arrogance were now holding it against him. A lot of the fans who were criticizing Ryan in the last half of 2007 jumped right back to being his “fans” once the Pretty. Odd. era got going and things were interesting again, but I guess it shouldn’t have been surprising that so many fans were able to easily switch to bashing Ryan once again in spring 2009 when he was changing yet again. It’s like they were so focused on what Ryan wasn’t doing that spring (ex: recording the third Panic album) that they couldn’t see or accept what he was doing: building a whole new life for himself in a completely different music scene with the new crew of friends he’d been hanging out with for a while (Alex Greenwald’s scene).
One of the things that stuck out to me in late spring & summer 2009 was how many fans felt rejected by Ryan (and Jon). Those fans had basically idolized prior versions of Ryan and were hurt to slowly watch him destroy all of that as they realized he didn’t want to be part of the machine of the music scene that the fandom still loved. That hurt translated to them lashing out in anger.
So you know how I mentioned that in 2006 part of the fandom liked the idea of a shy, wounded guitarist who wrote bitter lyrics and needed to be *understood * and saved? And they resented Ryan for destroying that concept in 2007 and taking away the Ryan that they loved? They wanted to view him as a static character and couldn’t accept that he’s a constantly-evolving human. This is still happening today. Some fans are still upset that the version of Ryan that they want was taken away (ex: Ryan left the Fever era behind, left Panic behind). Except now instead of resenting Ryan for the choices that he made, some modern fans have rewritten the past to blame external forces like Brendon instead. I've been trying so hard to wrap my mind around this for a while, so here's my take on it... keep in mind that this is just my own observation/guess. Ryan isn't very visible now, so people are free to project a lot onto him. I think that by blaming Brendon (who is the visible one left), people can still happily view Ryan as a helpless victim who needs saving, and never feel rejected or betrayed by his choices... it's like Ryan didn’t actually want to leave them, and could still be the person that they need him to be. Idk I'm still trying to comprehend what happened to the recent fandom tbh.
I'm absolutely not saying that all of Ryan's current fans are like this!! It's just that some little bits I've seen are concerning because they essentially take away Ryan’s agency & erase him. Even on a smaller scale, I've still noticed how some modern fans focus heavily on stories that dramatize Ryan's pain & portray him as a passive victim, regardless of whether those stories conflict with reality. Like why exactly is that angle a priority? Some examples:
Camisado is for dancing
the "funeral picture" isn't real
Lollapalooza was a fun show
June and July are different months
Ryan participated in the stage gay
some of the Ryden stuff could probably qualify too
Keep in mind that I'm saying this as a fan of Ryan. I am genuinely happy to see that he has so many newer fans! But sometimes I'm a little concerned that patterns might be repeating and maybe some people are more focused on their own creation of a character/image than an actual musician who has had many many phases.

It seems we are getting into the stage where Ryan Reynolds is EVERYWHERE and i can't seem to escape him even tho i very much want to. Seriously, i open Instagram, Ryan Reynolds, i open Tumbrl, Ryan Reynolds, i watch Youtube, i get hit with a Ryan Reynolds video or ad, now even in my siblings stories i see Ryan Reynolds because they're a Stray Kids fan just like Ryan and now he's heavily collaborating with the group. It doesn't help that i am not even looking forward to Deadpool 3 and at this point find Ryan anoying and cringe in the "middle-aged dad trying to be cool and hip" way, for whitch i am propably gonna get crucified.
i think you’re so valid for this take anon but I can’t dislike ryan too much because the deadpool movies are some of the only semi-decent deadpool content we’re getting so thank you ryan
i think ryan is taking the whole “omg he is LITERALLY deadpool” sentiment that fans slather him with and running with it but you know what, let the kid have fun. hollywood could do worse. they could have cast, I don’t know, jared leto or something. ryan is harmless and annoying. and like, wade is kind of annoying too. hand wave. it’s fine. it’s fine. like. I’m just accepting. I’m thinking “could we do better? probably not.”
would be interested to hear anyone in replies with any suggestions on someone they think would be a better cast. me,, personally, I’d love to see a young jim carrey a la cable guy or the mask era take on wade wilson

It's The Trainee's tenth episode, and Blue Boy Jane is as passionate as ever to show Ryan he is interested in him!
Tumblr media
Green Guy Ryan is in Jane's blue and pink (for love) with "do/er" written over his heart as Ryan realizes this episode that he actually does have dreams.
Tumblr media
And they aren't just about falling in love!
Tumblr media
Red Rascal Pie in her red Converse and red socks is still wrong about who Ryan likes.
Tumblr media
But it doesn't matter because Ryan knows who he likes, and Jane is trying to make it clear that he also cares about Ryan by picking him up before work, flirting with him at work on company time (AS HE SHOULD!), and dropping Ryan off at home after work.
Tumblr media
Because this episode was about putting in an effort, which Tae had to realize with the help of his color-coded friends (see the sticky notes!!!!).
Tumblr media
Brown Boy Tae is really going through his Sad Boy Era in black (for one whole entire week ~yes, I'm rolling my eyes~) because he can't live without Mee.
Tumblr media
Like, literally. He doesn't know what to eat or do without Mee taking care of him.
Tumblr media
And he isn't the only one sad about it because every part of me hates where this story is going, but I'm already strapped into this color-coded ride, and it's too late to get off now.
Tumblr media
So it's not surprising that when it comes down to it, Tae needs Mee or he'll die (seriously, he will because he can't do anything for himself!), which is why only the pink sticky notes are left. Woot woot.
Tumblr media
But Pink Person Mee is in the same love boat as she ponders her choices.
Tumblr media
Because even though Black Brooder Judy is lightening up, Mee realizes Judy is too attentive and isn't the one for her.
Tumblr media
So thank goodness for Yellow/Orange Oddity Pah and all his connections for bringing his two color-coded buddies back together!
Tumblr media
But in all honesty, because I couldn't tell if Tae finally wore full brown, I just pulled a @heretherebedork and believed this magical moment was actually telling me Tae was in love with Pah because ~colors~
Tumblr media
However, Tae is wearing brown next week, so good for him not being in love with Pah, I guess.
Tumblr media
But Ryan *is* in love with Jane, which will be on full display for the office to see when Ryan wear Jane's blue next week.
Tumblr media
And Jane will be the lightest blue he has ever been!
Tumblr media
Perhaps it has something to do with the "Daddy" with the tiny heart written over Ryan's heart.
Tumblr media
But it will be the (cursed?) eleventh episode, so I'm excited to see where this color-coded ride will take me!

Deadpool and Wolverine Review
If third time's the charm, Deadpool is the whole goddamn bracelet. I kinda grew up alongside the Deadpool movies. I saw the first one at overnight camp at 16, then saw the second in theaters at 18. Now, at 23, I feel like I've grown as a person, which means I can actually articulate how I feel about these films (though specifically, the newest one). I guess that whole 'wisdom comes with age' thing was right after all.
Tumblr media
For starters, Ryan Reynolds absolutely kills it. I know the phrase 'born to play this character' is thrown around a lot, but it really fits here with him. Reynolds once again is a delight as Deadpool, with all his usual snark, pizazz, and heartfelt moments. He's always on point, either with a quick jab at another character, comical reactions, or his character's usual fourth-wall breaks.
Tumblr media
He isn't always all happy-go lucky, though. The film, like the previous 2, has a story beyond gratuitous violence, one that centers on Wade Wilson's sense of inadequacy in comparison to other famous heroes. We see how his life has changed since the previous film (go watch that before this, it will not make sense otherwise), both for better and for worse, and watch him continue to grow as a person in a satisfying way. That, I believe, is what separates these movies from other ultra-violent movies of its type: that there is an emotionally-driven story, and it remains important beyond getting characters from setpiece to setpiece.
Tumblr media
Though, that's not to say that this is some deep philosophical mediation on the character. Fear not, there's still as much, if not more, violent fight scenes and action here like the previous movies. After all, what would a Deadpool movie be without a few dozen (read: thousand) bad guys to kill, in creative and gorey ways? This film ups the ante, by giving more interesting fight scenes that revolve around different set ups (tower defense, 1v1 in a car, etc) to keep everything visually fresh.
Tumblr media
There's never a dull moment in this film. Heart-to-hearts are full of little sneaky one-liners that take a minute to register. Tension between the two leads is thick enough to see, let alone cut with a knife. And all the while, the film keeps bringing in new reveals, fully using the 20th Century Fox backlog of C-listers to call back to this franchise's history, and keep them from fully being forgotten. Add that, with an army of multiverse Deadpools, and you've got yourself a film that even non-comic book nerds like me gush over.
Tumblr media
Above all this, beyond the not-quite-irritating-like-most use of the multiverse, or the hundreds of liters of CGI blood shed, this movie did something so profound, I'm still reeling. It made me love Wolverine.
Growing up, Logan always felt like a gross old man type of character. The kind who pressures you to drink at a young age, and owns at least 20 guns that he refuses to part with. Any portrayal of his animal-ness always felt like lip service. But here... its like I've met him for the first time, and now I'm obsessed.
Tumblr media
Hugh Jackman has practically been playing this character since I was born, but only here do I really feel like we get to meet Wolverine in full. No longer is he that hunched-over, stoic gruff weirdo that X-Men have around, now he's a deeply emotional character with valid reasoning behind it, and strong motivations. We are finally in an era where tough guy characters are being done justice and allowed to have emotions, and it is glorious.
Tumblr media
X-Men Apocalypse gave us a taste of what he could do, but putting Wolverine in an R-Rated movie was the best decision anyone could have ever made. His animal fury is on full display here, and with a higher age rating, ever stab and slice is shown in bloody, glorious detail. Pairing him with another character who can take hits and survive, like Deadpool, was a match made in heaven.
Tumblr media
The two are perfect foils, playing off each other in such a satisfying way that had me disappointed when it was all over. Deadpool has worked with bigger, tougher guys in the past, but Wolverine's short temper and guardedness go well with Deadpool's silly, jokester persona. Platonically, romantically, sexually, I don't care. They're meant for each other.
Tumblr media
Above all, Deadpool and Wolverine is a loving send off to the studio that made the X-Men film franchise. Its a culmination of all the passion and hard work that went into those movies, and stands as a testament to how far we've come since the first X-Men hit theaters over 2 decades ago. With a film like this as a sample of what's in the future, we won't have anything to fear.

7x10 thoughts
This episode did not scream season finale to me (7x09 definitely delivered in this aspect. Very GOT like) but I found the episode to be good. Had we not nailed the theories and had the spoilers along the way it would have been much more satisfying, but I'm a sucker for spoilers so... I can't complain. Here are some key thoughts about some of what happened this episode, at least about stuff that I want to talk about! In no particular order...
I found Tommy to be repulsive this episode. And I don't have a problem with Tommy (I mean obviously Buddie is endgame, but we can dabble in this BuckxTommy era) but the writers yet again put blatant signs that this relationship will reach it's end soon. There is no way it lasts through the first half of season 8.
Ryan Guzman DELIVERED when it mattered the most this episode. NGL, some of his big dramatic scenes can be a bit cringe to me (him explaining the Kim situation to Buck, his Kim/Shannon soliloquy) but honestly this whole situation is cringe so I can overlook it. But the more heartfelt, emotional stuff where the drama is down and Eddie is just gutted is Ryan's bread and butter!!!! Him saying bye to Chris and letting him know he loves him! 😘 His parents telling him that Chris wants to go with them to Texas! 😘 It's gut wrenching but this sets up for a great Eddie storyline in season 8!
This should really be 2.5 but I absolutely loved Ramon in this episode! The change in his and Eddie's relationship has come full circle and when Eddie struggles to come to terms with the bed that he made, his father is the person who convinced him that this is the right thing to do. And he managed to do it with this brash quippy honesty that I love. "Father's are human. Son's don't always handle this news well." "Your son is trying to tell you what he needs. Don't wait 30 years before you listen. You'll regret it." GOD this kitchen table scene was SOOO GOOD! Like top scene in the whole series good! I ate this shit up.
That Mara work around is going to work well, I am just still upset that Hen and Karen can't complete their family. It hurts, but I guess that's what Tim wants me to feel so...
Buddie is far from over. Y'all were grasping on straws if you really expected much more than what we got. And truly we got sooo much! The parallels! Buck being THE definition of a co-parent. Literally only Buck could have had the conversation that he had with Chris. Eddie was absolutely relying on Buck and Buck continues to be Eddie's person. I am eating it up and so should y'all! I'm smelling realizations in season 8 and I cannot wait!
I feel pretty much the same as everyone else about the rest of what happened. Overall, I think season 7 was VERY GOOD! Yes the season was definitely affected by the last minute writing and filming, but I think that the storylines that developed over the course of this season were compelling, interesting, different, and leave us with a great place to continue to tell the story of the 118 in season 8!
I'm pretty full. Hbu?

Lana del ray, marina this the 1975 that but WHERE I ask are the edgy kids?!?! Ya know that weird 2014-2018 emo revival that we all just moved on from? I’m talking the emos that were around when TØP got a number one with stressed out, the emos cried over Mrs potato head, the emos that thought my Chem were coming back when the teaser for MCRX dropped on Halloween (LIKE AINT THAT THE MOST EMO SHIT YOU COULD THINK OF!) where are my edgy legends who remember the fall out boy fandom literally splitting in half over night when young and a menace dropped? Where are all the people (who I mostly found on this hell site) who collectively fell in love with Ryan Ross and made AFYCSO and pretty. Odd. A part of our personality. WHERE ARE ALL CRANK THAT FRANKS FORMER SUBSCRIBERS?!?!?!? My black veil brides girlbloggers who went to WAR with Juliet bloggers (if you know you know). The true edge lords who single handedly made suicide squad a cultural moment and deadpool their new favourite boi (HERE COME THAT BOI OH SHIT WHATSUP).
We were dealt a weird hand in the history of alternative culture, where the old ways were dying out slowly and the bands we loved were evolving into something more modern. We got some of the very best and very worse of music at the time. We all cried over Chester Bennington together. We strived for change while still respecting the best parts of 2000s emo and better treatment of POC and the LGBTQ+ community within our communities (we still aren’t 100% there but being on this site now makes me believe the alt kids now will do even better than we could). I can’t even get a fraction of all the things 2014-2018 edgy kids went though in this post there’s just so much, so if you’re out there still rotting away here on tumblr.com, and you happen to see this post, PLEASE tell me your fondest memories, your wildest bandom stories, your drama and tea and shade I want it all!! Sometimes I swear just me and my friends went though this weird emo phase and maybe it’s because I’m not on tik tok or instagram but it feels like this era of emo is just so overlooked in favour of classic 2000s MySpace emo (which is ironic because 2010s emos really wanted to be 2000s emos so bad but we just couldn’t bring ourselves to take….certain bands seriously or put raccoon tails in) it’s probably also because there wasn’t just emos, pale grunge and pop punks not dead and ethereal tumblr girls and Hollywood undead wannabes dominated at the time SO WHERE HAVE YOU ALL GONE?!?! YOU CANT HAVE ALL JUST GOTTEN OVER IT AND MOVED ON!

your post about how eddie fell first is literally what made me follow you last year 😄
i know you said you’re enjoying the time before the show might… well, squash the theory… but you never know! it could be the reveal/pining/slowburn of the century!
what are your theories for if they don’t go that route? eddie didn’t know all along?
I love that you followed me through that post because I feel like that one really sets the mood for the madness you're about to experience following me kspakspakpakapaka
No but can you imagine, revealing that Eddie has been in love all along and aware of it for whoever long they decide (I know I say even all the way down to the lawsuit could work and that the shooting was his oh moment, but my guess if they ever went that route it would be post breakdown, like, he figures it out and accepts between dumb luck and starting over, so confirm he was pining during all of season 6) and then make Eddie canonically explicitly pine as Buck dates a guy who's literally him in a different font? What kind of fanfic bullshit would that be? I would die, like legit. Buck being bi almost made me call my psychiatrist to adjust my meds, Eddie being in love with Buck all along confirmed would put me in a psych hold kspalapalapopkspsk
That being said, if they are going there with buddie, which I'm 90% sure they are, since Buck is fully unaware of the Eddie of it all and Eddie is about to have problems with Marisol, you can have Eddie watch Buck with Tommy and be like "I want that", especially when it seems like they'll focus a lot on being soft and fun and something that just makes Buck happy, and then be like "oh shit do I want Buck?" Because they never really saw each other in a happy relationship, so that can absolutely spark something for Eddie and Eddie wouldn't need something as on the nose as being grabbed and kissed by Buck to realize he loves him, yk? So he can be longing for what they have, even more if he does break up with Marisol before he finds out Buck and Tommy are dating, and then have him be like oh fuck. Because even though I strongly believe Buck needs to make a move, the show needs to explicitly state Eddie's interest in Buck before that happens or else you risk people saying it came out of nowhere or it's just repeating the bucktommy start. Like, I wouldn't be surprised if there was something like Buck and Tommy dancing at the wedding, and Eddie watching them, and you just see the progression happen on his face (that Ryan would BODY because the way that man can make you feel exactly what Eddie is feeling without saying a single word amazes me) and then we enter a pining era that eventually would evolve into a mutual pining era and eventually getting them together. But my guess right now is not that Eddie is gonna be jealous, it is that he's gonna be longing, and that will lead to him finally being like oh! for real.
Fantasy scenario though, is the reveal that Eddie has in fact been aware of it at least throughout all of season 6, settled into the fact that Buck was "straight" and he had to move on, now has to pine as he watches Buck with a guy he has so much in common with, and not do anything about it again not because he thinks Buck can't feel the same way, but because Buck just doesn't want him and is happy, so he won't mess that up and take the secret to the grave. Especially if you consider the way you can totally frame the cemetery scene to make it seem like Eddie thinks Buck "broke up" with him (cemetery scene my beloved 🫶), you have him double down that feeling, "I'm still not what he wants, that doesn't change just because he's attracted to guys" and you have him try to figure out what to do with it since moving on didn't work he and he would want to be as supportive as possible because Buck is still Buck and he is his person and he wants Buck to be happy, all while trying to figure out how to be happy with himself, and while Buck and Eddie work on their friendship (talk boys, please, I'm begging). Then Buck and Tommy break up, Buck and Eddie almost die together in the finale and we have a buddie cliffhanger to close the season (drown Buck 2024 I will always believe you) and buddie get together at some point during the beginning of season 8.
Also, can you imagine the CHAOS if the show gave us bi Buck and buddie canon on Eddie's side within a week of each other after only 5 episodes in the network? We would LEGIT break the internet. And I would owe everything to abc lol

i think nettles is going to be replaced by rhaena, bc its gonna take a few seasons for her to have a significant role and they just want to give the poor girl a side plot for some time 😭😭
also ngl been kinda hating thia season, it has GOT s2 energy, it's kind of boring and it doesn't interest me as much
This season has been very drawn out and repetitive for sure which is disappointing cause we left S1 strongly and then after episode 1 of this season it's been the same thing over and over again.
Gonna do some spoilers real quick (including some book spoilers)
Rhaenyra left episode 1 of this season pissed off and wanting Aemond's death and then after her reunion with Jace all her anger?? evaporated?? Yes, she was exhausted and grieving in the last ep of S1 and first ep of S2 but?? It's like she just stopped grieving and being angry??
It feels like she's been reduced to one of the two types of Strong Female Lead written by a man. One of the types is the sexy cool girl who doesn't need no man but still gets saved by a man and has sassy one liners, the second type is the perfect rational woman who has no flaws or bad traits. Rhaenyra is currently the second type and it's annoying because it also fits the rest of the woman (apart from maybe Alys and Alicent).
The men thus far have been allowed to make mistakes, stick their foot in their mouths, be loud and angry and bitter, have complex personalities and arcs while the woman have been reduced to always rational and practical.
Helaena 'accepted' her son's death when she's supposed to be going mad with grief, Rhaenyra is no longer angry when her son was literally murdered, half of Alicent's scenes revolve around Cole, most of Rhaenys scenes pre-battle were just telling people to shut up, Baela and Rhaena are hardly on screen.
All Rhaenyras done these past eps have been dip out of Dragonstone and get dismissed by her council over and over and over again. Literally since she got back it's the same 'oh these men are sexist and won't listen to her' again and again. We could've been seeing her make rash decisions fueled by anger and then regretting them later. We could've seen her realize her anger needed simmering only for it to resurface after witnessing Ser Erryk's death by having Rhaenys fly out to meet Cole and avenge him as well as protecting Rooks Nest.
Just because Rhaenyra is the main protagonist doesn't mean she has to be absolutely perfect and reasonable. Character flaws and negative traits is what made GoT's characters and story compelling. It's what actually makes the Greens interesting. Ryan obviously considers them the big bad villains and as such they have noticeable flaws which makes them fun to watch. The Blacks are noticeably more boring because they lack those bigger flaws.
It's a frequent thing with men writing about women. It feels like they're so nervous and uncomfortable with potentially being called a misogynist that they unintentionally end up creating/using sexist tropes. It's fine for women to be rebellious and angry and bitter and resentful. It's fine for them to be submissive and gentle and motherly. It's fine for them to change over time and to appropriately react to certain things. This fandom also forgets that in their treatment of Rhaenyra and Alicent depending on which side they're on.
Anyways I'm actually annoyed about Nettles 😭 she was the ONLY woman of color in the book and her existence and closeness to Daemon pushed Rhaenyra further into her own downfall and now what? They're going to make her paranoid over an actual father-daughter duo?
I get Rhaena was underused and hardly involved in the battle (since she was more like young Sansa in the book. Not a bad thing at all tbh it might've even been nice if Team Black had a less 'i want to fight' character. You very rarely see poc characters in period era dramas be allowed to have those arcs/personalities without some sort of trauma or mistreatment) but if anything, they could've had her helping Nettles claim Sheepstealer. They could've had them becoming good friends and potentially even doing a call back to the og Rhaena Targ who had a female lover since they've already implied the eggs given to Rhaena are Danys eggs. There were a billion plots to go with and they went with the most simple generic one when there aren't supposed to be any dragons in the Vale. I see why George decided not to be involved anymore.

I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on the Ghost Monument. I know some people feel the stakes aren’t high enough, and that maybe if the racers were pitted against each other more it could be a more ‘interesting’ episode I guess, but I find the dynamics of the 2 guest cast to be interesting because they aren’t enemies, they’re not friends either but there’s not a desire to kill each other, because they are their out of necessity and to me that’s more then just being there out of ego or a prize. That surrounded by the history of the Stenza on the planet, it’s fascinating and one where I don’t think I’m fully across yet, so would be interested in hearing your thoughts.
Honestly, I was mostly just shocked that people thought this episode was bad? It wouldn't make my favourites list but there's literally nothing wrong with it either in plot or the execution of it imo. I enjoy it in a rewatch! It builds important dynamics and sets up important arcs. The foundation for the main characters are more firmly set.
Also, like, whatever peoples feelings on the stakes in this episode, it should be noted that The Ghost Monument as an episode has a dark twin. Its name is Ascension of the Cybermen. Narratively they function as a pair and the second one is supposed to be a lot darker with more stakes that shows the development of the characters, so you can't really do that if the first one is absolutely Go Go Go GO high stakes all the whole way through? The tonal difference belays the seriousness of the second episode. The contrast shows to demonstrate both how far the fam have come in AotC and how far 13 has fallen from TGM.
Not to say the sitch they're in in TGM isn't serious, it is, but this is not super stressful to the doctor, she's not, till the very end, scared she can't return them home or that they'll die (well. anymore than the doctor apparently normally is. The monologue in Once, Upon Time was fabulous but very sad). The fam are mostly just following 13's lead to get through this all figuring it's their best chance. In the second episode, they show their own initiative. In effect TGM is their training wheel episode that allows them to survive when the stakes get high.
The links between 11x01 & 2 and 12x09 & 10 give me Life. Such brilliant arching plot threads. Great bookends to Ryan and Graham's time on the show.
And really? This is a personal opinion, but disaster apocalyptic scenarios (which this is applicable to even if our group aren't natives of the place) where everybody lives in hell but just fight and try and kill each other as well as the environment trying to off them are just Bad. And belays an absolutely twisted view of us as a species. I feel like them all banding together when it gets tough and forming a community, if a very terse one where not everybody gets along, is actually an accurate portrayal of people in general. Even whatshisface Enzo or whatever joined the group he hated for safety because he was a lousy person, yeah, but he was Not stupid. I cannot stand grimdark crap like those zombie shows where people just kill each other en masse in their warring factions or whatever like the whole of human history isn't us forming societies and working together.
But speaking of whatever his name is, I feel like his contributions to the dialogue of the episode played an important part in delivering the themes they were going for, so making them fight instead would just have damaged the episode's core aims.
Mr 'I love my mum she taught me people are awful and selfish and horrible by breaking my trust and allowing me to get badly injured' is, congrats, the first person in this era to talk about his terrible mother whom 13 Immediately says sucks (gee i wonder why they did that. he even got hurt because he fell and his mum didn't save him). This is also the first time the cycle of abuse is mentioned because uh, the loser in the mother of the year competition did it specifically so it'd perpetuate itself in her son. This is the episode the timeless child is first mentioned. Considering the cornerstone of the arc is that this child in the end Broke that chain of abuse I do not consider this a coincidence. I'd bet him and his mother would think that Tecteun made that child Strong by what they did to them. 13 did Not like this man and she wouldn't, he's a dark mirror but also the victim of a really shitty mother.
There are other things i take note of in this episode. It's the first time out of post regeneration weirdness we see 13 really hit her stride. It's the first time we see her eschew pacifism as Her Thing despite the fact that she's already demonstrated her willingness to use violence with a few bombs the ep previous. Contextual morality. Reoccurring theme. It Wasn't a good idea to use violence in the situation she was in in TGM. Still doesn't make her a pacifist though bc lol, the bomb thing. So it's Kind of the first blatant portrayal of 13's private actions contrasting ones witnessed by the fam which are used to make her look better in their eyes. This will continue all season.
The stenza are now explicitly portrayed as violent colonizers as opposed to weird guys with the universe's most messed up election system. The lady is going through a race from hell is here to buy her loved ones out of the hell of their society. It's the first time the theme Properly pops up in the era. The first of many times. 13 continues to be a support to Ryan here, deepening their relationship. She's dad-ing him. She's not mad, she's disappointed! (she's also mad). She's also supportive of him.
I also think that 13 totally running out of ideas and thinking they're all gonna die at the end when the others disappear and the tardis does Not appear sets up something interesting. The fam, the ones who have been sceptical about her ability to save them this ep but still figure her as their best chance Immediately bolster her confidence and try and prop her up. They continue with the 'you've got this doc, we have faith in you!!' for a while after that, i assume they think she needs the morale boost? But I think it just leaves her with this terrifying pressure in the end?
She tries to let them know later on that this travelling is Dangerous and that they could get hurt but i think they have kind of started to buy into their own hype about her by then and aren't as worried as they should be. They think tim shaw is the worst of the worst the whole of s11 and 13 doesn't barely deign to acknowledge him bc he's so beneath her. So by the time the real bad guys pop out of the woodwork that Actually scare her the fam are overconfident in her ability to save them, which in turn eventually leaves them in the AOTC situation where they have to save themselves because she Cannot save them herself. She gave them an out before then and they didn't take it because they were not worried. I think the journey to that overconfidence starts right here.
I guess if i had to gripe it'd be that the scene where the two racers decide to take the prize together was Way too easy and more of a footnote in the story? There wasn't really another way this was going to end, but still. That seemed a little weakly done to me. I'd like a little bit more time devoted to it because it's not like i can't think of a few different scenarios to get here, it's just they'd have taken more screen time. In the end, I think that the episode had more important plot threads to go into so they just rushed it a bit. Maybe that's where people wanted more conflict? I don't want more conflict as much as a deeper discussion. They Didn't have a gripe with each other beyond that they were competing against each other and wanted to win and it didn't seem to occur to them that they could just share. But also, i've not watched this for a while. Maybe i'm misremembering, but i remember it feeling short to me.
idk, in the end it reminds me, weirdly, of Jurassic park where they're working their way across the park to the guest centre when all the dinos are escaped. Yes they're in danger and at times it's severe, but they have time to talk and bond and work together using their own skills as a group. The stakes Are high, there be monsters out to kill them and they want to go home, but it's also not 100% dire at all times. It hits the same mood for me.
This episode wasn't grim but it wasn't trying to be either so i guess if you Like grim it'd be a disappointment, but it did what it wanted to pretty well with setting stuff up and having a reasonable compelling episode plot.
Also... It's Super pretty. The bright sun. Glorious.

i just know yuuji started that Daddy’s Home edit of gojo on a secret account 😭 he’s that man’s #1 fan (i’m positive he asked nobara to help him with the edit but took no credit since she didn’t think it was gonna pop off(v much regrets not taking credit for it))
FIRST OF ALL. yuuji is the biggest bitch on stan twitter, but literally NO ONE KNOWS IT'S HIM. except it becomes a thing where he's like "oh gojo is so insane for bringing the cat head to the shibuya set" and then people are like "source?? where did u see this" and then he deactivates and starts a new account all over again.
on the topic of secret accounts, here we go.
reiner has an account where he exclusively rates all the bread he eats at restaurants. similar to lorde, who has her onion ring instagram, reiner has one. but for bread. and the reviews are way too detailed like this man going on about "this bread is what victorian children dreamed of. 8.5/10."
gojo is on stan twitter, but for all the wrong reasons. they all hate him.
"oh you love geto? what's his favorite color? yeah. I thought so." FROM AN ALIAS ACCOUNT JUST CAUSING BEEF FOR NO REASON
calling nanami his bias and tweeting at him every day to get a response. like "my fav pls notice me" nanami knows its him. and blocks him.
nobara and maki are the queen of fancams, literally EVERYONE eats them up in edits and they pretend they don't watch them but the totally do
eren saves all the fancams he sees of you on his phone. and reposts them sometimes too. also totally during the breakup era, this man is googling "y/n and eren flirting for ten minutes straight" edits and crying himself to sleep. someone start playing last kiss.
connie, has a private twitter, that he uses to rant. but he accidentally doesn't use it sometimes and tweets very personal information from his verified account.
yuuta and maki have the whole blake lively and ryan reynolds vibe. except, maki is ryan reynolds and yuuta is blake lively.
like when ryan draws earrings onto blake lively's ears on instagram stories bc she's annoyed she doesn't have any - that is what maki does for her baby boy yuuta.

Ryan Ross wanted Camisado to be introduced as a dance song
That was literally the point. The same thing goes for Nails for Breakfast. Ryan absolutely wanted those songs to be treated as dance songs. One of the main ideas that he emphasized over & over in Fever-era interviews was that he wanted to challenge listeners and push the envelope. That was such a fundamental & core aspect of his approach to his songwriting back then.
For me, it’s the juxtaposition of a heavy topic being treated as an upbeat dance song that makes Camisado what it is. Ryan told Big Cheese in January 2006 that “you notice a lot of dance bands, the lyrics are pretty straightforward with nothing to think about – just songs to dance to. While we have songs to dance to, the lyrics are definitely not lighthearted. You can read into it more.” He also talked about how “for the first half of the record we were focused on the idea of writing songs that people could dance to.” Ryan always viewed Camisado as a dance song (here’s a random example from early October 2006 where Ryan & Jon are asked which of P!ATD’s songs would be the best to crazy dance to like you’re on ecstasy: Jon automatically says “Time to Dance” before Ryan states the obvious Camisado and Jon quickly agrees... it’s at 5:30 btw).
You’re missing the point if you treat Camisado like some fragile song that should be venerated, tiptoed around, given a moment of silence, or somehow handled delicately because of the heavy topic. That is seriously the opposite approach of what Ryan was going for. Brendon was only respecting Ryan’s creative vision and following his directions by repeatedly introducing Camisado as a dance song. Brendon was like Ryan’s mouthpiece onstage in the Fever era. If Ryan didn’t actively want Camisado introduced as a dance song, then that wouldn’t have become a regular part of multiple tours like it did. The fans back then were not being disrespectful by jumping around, moshing, & dancing to Camisado either. We were very much aware of what the song was about... we did not somehow miss that memo throughout the hundreds of interviews the band did each season. Ironically, the younger fans these days are the disrespectful ones when they completely ignore everything Ryan wanted and then try to villainize Brendon for calling Camisado a dance song as though he personally came up with that idea and Ryan was some kind of passive victim who just drifted along quietly and had no input, personality, control, or creative vision.
Ryan absolutely wouldn’t have held back if people weren’t treating a song the way he wanted. In late spring 2008 he freely complained that some fans weren’t respecting Northern Downpour or really listening to the lyrics when they tried to mosh to that song. Yet he regularly encouraged people to dance to Camisado that year... because THAT WAS THE POINT lol.
The Pretty. Odd. era didn’t require a dramatic frontman in a narrator’s role/character. Ryan & Jon often did the majority of the talking onstage (and had a lot of control during that era in general). So here are some examples of how Camisado was introduced in 2008:

update: someone just started messaging me screenshots of the types of comments that have apparently been happening on Twitter over the past couple years... I can't read all of these without falling into a pit of despair at the state of the modern fandom, but here are a few examples:

Thoughts on The Boys Season 4
Just my raw thoughts not a review or anything
The Boys is finally back after an extended break (I know we got Gen V in the middle but idk) and is here to finally show us what is going on with our favorite group of edgy vigilantes and the answer is not very much and what is there is kind of disappointing.
Season 4 is a mess, an ugly, brash and thoughtless disaster of random plotlines that I wish were better handled but as a set up season for the 5th and final installment it suffers greatly.
Butcher who is performed phenomenally as always by Karl Urban gets a very interesting dynamic with a fellow comrade Kessler played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan doing a really good job as the guest this season (not to the extent of Jensen Ackles did last season as Soldier Boy but that is literally impossible to top) and is one of the more fascinating characters until it’s revealed he is just a hallucination and a lot of his potential is squandered. Hughie (Jack Quaid) for his part is almost entirely disconnected from the story till the incredibly controversial and disgusting with Tech Knight and some not very well handled parts with Erin Moriarty’s Starlight were their romance seems threatened and gives poor Annie a completely lackluster season between that and her underexplored Planned Parenthood-esque storyline. Frenchie and Kimiko get the worst this season as both their plots come out of nowhere and are dropped randomly so I’m gonna do the same, sorry Karen (Fukuhara) you were great but they gave you trash. And last but not least MM (who got a surprising transformation, good on you Laz (heh) Alonso) has an interesting will he wont he type story about if he will stay in the game or leave for his family and his own health which I hope continues into Season 5.
Now the bad guys which will frankly be shorter, Starr as Homelander is the same as always, a good performance that is kind of losing it’s luster a little but it still has a funny and terrifying aura when properly utilized and I’m really looking forward to his Donal Trump era next season.  Chance Crawford’s Deep and Nathan Mitchell´s Black Noir (version 2) start a funny and dumb partnership now that Noir can talk and they lightened up the mood significantly when they were on screen even if they are both horrible people. Jessie T. Usher is the stand out this season as A-Train gets an atonement arc that made him really endearing and frankly my favorite character this season which seems so bizarre when they show opens trying to convince you he is the biggest piece of shit but man has the guy grown, he is still a cocky asshole but he now tries to be a decent and even sometimes just a straight up good person and I really do hope he makes it out of this. And finally the newcomers Sister Sage and Firecracker portrayed bySusan Heyward and Valorie Curry respectively are a great addition to the cast both in being a cynical egomaniac that works behind the scenes and a new hate sponge that does everything despicable you can think of, specially with both of them being original creations they were implemented with great care and attention that just worked well with the dynamic of the show.
And now the neutral characters I guess? Caludia Doumit’s Victoria Newman suffers a lot from lack of commitment and bad character writing this season which is such a shame now knowing (for obvious reasons) that this is her last season while Ryan (who is supposed to be like 13 but Cameron Crovetti looks way older than he even is) gets something similar to MM with a will he wont he but poorly executed in comparison and it just kind of makes me dislike the character a lot.
There were other cool characters and cameos like Giancarlo Esposito finally coming back to play Stan Endgar but at the same time we got Maddie Philips struggling to act even with a character as one note as Cate is in this show.
The Boys season 4 was a big mix bag let down but it still has some redeeming qualities, hopefully a lot of it’s issues have more to do with the fact that it’s a set up season and less with the writers not knowing what to do anymore.

DOCTOR WHO Ask...
3 and or 4 😀
Love your fics.
Thanks anon!
I decided to answer both questions!
3. who is your favourite doctor? why?
So this one is very hard for me to answer...
I like most Doctor's in one way or another. However, one I've been recently re-watching a lot of is the fourth Doctor, specifically with Leela as his companion. I feel like his stories do go a lot darker. I also love his relationship with Leela.
I also love three, six, nine and eleven
4. who is your least favourite doctor? why?
This one is a lot easier for me to answer and no hate to people who like this Doctor. This is just my personal opinion.
I also have a feeling that this is going to be pretty unpopular...
My least favourite Doctor is 13 and I'll post why under the cut
To me 13 just doesn't fee like The Doctor. There are a lot of things in her era that really don't fit with the character.
She literally handed the Master over to the Nazis (now they'll see the real you) and all that was said about it was a throw away line of 'I've had the worst 77 years of my life' (or something along those lines)
She thought that locking a bunch of sentient creatures in a small, dark room and letting them die in there was a better death then being shot. Being shot is quicker and I know I'd rather be shot then left to starve
She was a dick to Graham after he confided in her about his fears about his cancer coming back.
And don't get me wrong, I like stories when the Doctor goes dark and is a bit of a bastard, 'Waters of Mars' is one of my favourite stories. However, the Doctor always faced the consequences of his actions. Donna remembered him killing all those spiders, Martha left him at the end of her run, Rory snapped at the Doctor and told him that he might not want to travel with him any more. 13 never seemed to face any consequences for any morally dubious action she took. The only time I can think of was either Yaz or Ryan (can't remember which) telling the Doctor that 'she can't speak like that to him [Graham]' but then almost instantly after one of them goes 'you're the best person we know'.
I do feel sorry for Jodie and the cast for getting bad story lines. I really hope that The Big Finish can give her some great stories that she deserves.

LITG: Double Trouble EP 11 Recap
here we go...
*spoilers under the cut*
everyone is talking about who MC is going to choose...I will say normally I love a super confident pixel but Roberto just gave me the ick so bad with this overconfidence.
YAYYYY challenge time!!! im actually excited about this one!! GUYS the placement of these cowboy hats on the girls OMG it's so bad. oooop!! not Grace flirting with Ryan where Ozzy could see!! Girly ur relationship is already on thin ice!! EEK I chose the "you dont sound too secure with Ozzy" option and she said "youre right, I guess I dont feel that solid with him right now....kinda feels like he might still be open to other options." and then she glances at MC...😬😩 UH OH shes gonna give a test in the challenge...girlyyyy. skefoisjefjwaenfajw SINCE WHEN AM I BLONDE?????? lolol omg look I get that the art team prob couldnt draw the hat for EVERY hair option but they couldnt at least match the color ??????? also I hate that in challenges MC is the only one who wears a diff outfit. why cant they just make us have a special one but give the girls outfits too??
DEAD at Roberto not having any rhythm and Lewie not having any coordination in the obstacle portion. EEK time for Grace to test Ozzy 🫣 I meannnnn.....Lewie lol? why not Ryan who she actually just flirted with in front of Ozzy and who was grafting her AND is also single. lowkey feels like shes not only trying to teach Ozzy a lesson but us too 👀
Tumblr media
OZZYS TURN 🥰 not Ozzy dominating on the bull and his dance moves AND choosing MC. ksaidsiodisjdfies OBVI snogged Ozzy's face off even though I def didnt kiss the other boys 😬 MC is obvi going out and showing out as she she should 💅🏼 anddddd u guys already know who I chose. Grace im sorry babes! Also sorry Roberto and Lewie! OOP Ozzy whispering that after our moment on the terrace he hoped we'd pick him. ok the constant interruptions from Grace...I get them...and I actually do like they added this in but im gonna need a little less to make me feel less guilty about what im about to do 😬. "IT SEEMS LIKE YOURE COMPLETELY ALONE" fb u really want me to fall in love with this pixel man dont you??? 🫣🫣 Grace saying that was low😐 im sorry for Grace that I made my mc be in her villain era bc im def choosing the diamond scene and going to do it all over again with Ozzy. SCREAMING not us landing perfectly on top of him after falling off the bull and then KISSING IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. MC IS A MENACE.
Tumblr media
time for a girl chat 😬 damn Amelia saying MC always had the big moves and looking sad...yeahh thats def gonna come back up. LOLOL not Ryan pulling a Rocco and chatting with all the girls. ACK GRACE!!! "its not only the boys im struggling to trust" I love that theres more nuance here and fb actually gave her some personality here. Grace has EVERY reason to be fuming at not only Ozzy but also MC. ok wait..... "but when he cracks a joke you're the person he looks at to see if you laugh." STAHP IT PLS!!! not grace fishing for an apology! im so confused Grace has sat here with us and explained how its so clear Ozzy has feelings for MC and then when she asks if she needs to worry if you say yes. she's still like are you sure??? why did fb not make this consistent with everything else she just said!!
Ryan encouraging Roberto to shoot his shot with MC to free up Amelia is such an EL OH EL moment. like sir u have spoken two words to the girl and you've been grafting literally every girl in the villa outside of MC all day!! pack your bags Ryan!
