Introduction to Drawing Metal Sonic
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Texture-less 3D models are from @/mellow-elbow 's massive folder of Sonic character models and reference photos. (And I love you for that, I use it a lot) Which are models ripped from the games. All other photos used here are from the IDW comics (Mostly issue #12) and other official sources.
➟Link to Folder ➟Metal Sonic Folder
Machines/computers are pretty and I wanted expand my skills, and am fixated on Sonic. So I found myself drawing Metal Sonic lately, and feel like sharing my learning experience on drawing this fucker since I found it interesting. I also needed to do something with these references because I used so many.
Obviously, do whatever you want. I am not going to police people on how they should be drawing a fictional robot. I mean hell, I don't draw him game accurate either and am still learning. I was interested in the details and robotics of it all to get a grasp of how he is drawn and be messed with.
From the references alone, his designs are more complicated and simplified between each artists and modellers.
Once removing all the overwhelming details, Metal boils down to very basic human anatomy. Or more accurately: he is a ball jointed doll. Think of how you can move the limbs of a Monster High or Barbie doll, it's similar.
Tumblr media
To me, it seems that the joints where he can pivot at 360° are the shoulders, hip, neck, and risks. The elbow and knee areas are able to swing front and back. (Not sure if that needs to be said but here it is).
Pauldrons are able to move too. (Think this is the most obvious but I need to remind myself this)
Tumblr media
Break down the hands into a basic drawing skeleton, a slightly curved rectangle for the palms and 3 joints for the fingers. Then draw the rest of the details from there since he has no muscles or fat.
There is a ball joint at the base of the thumb. That itself is a huge joint on the hand.
Fingers are drawn kinda skeletal.
Dude's pretty flat chested, and so his torso section goes inwards.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A lot perspective will come into play when drawing him in different angles, especially those where body parts mesh into one another. Keep in mind that he can't squish like someone with flesh.
Can't remember where I heard this, but the design philosophy for each metal character is that everything on them has a function. Again do whatever you want, but if you want to make a game accurate design then keep this in mind. (It's not the case for Neo, but dude is allow to have a sense of fashion)

Happy Throwing Him Thursday!
KYLE CROUSE: Next question is from @rabbithaver. “In 2018, you wrote IDW Sonic #14, which contained panels of Silver being thrown by the ankle by Metal Sonic. On May 19, 2022, tumblr user @catgirlkirigiri posted those panels with the caption, 'Happy Throwing Him Thursday.' Now, every Thursday, Sonic Tumblr celebrates by partaking in throwing Silver. Each week, participants render their followers' dashboards unusable by reblogging those panels dozens of times in a row. People have drawn fan art. There are multiple videos of people throwing their Silver plushies, including one of him being hurled off a five story balcony. In celebration of the two year anniversary of the first Throwing Him Thursday, would you both please rank Sonic characters based on how far you think you, personally, could throw them?” [TRANSCRIBER’S NOTE: The balcony mentioned was seven stories, not five, which is much funnier.]
youtube
IAN FLYNN: [in exaggerated horror] Two years?! KYLE: [laughing] IAN: My poor boy has been yeeted for two years?! KYLE: He’s getting yeeted! He’s getting yeeted like crazy! IAN: I feel bad! KYLE: [laughs] IAN: I’m glad folks are enjoying themselves, but… what have I done to the poor boy? KYLE: [still laughing] Ah, well, I mean, the fandom got a— the fandom got attached to it. To be fair, you know. You did it once. [chuckles] IAN: And really, the credit should go to Tracy Yardley and the other artists for rendering it, but hm… KYLE: True, true. [chuckling] IAN: Half-tempted to sneak in a panel somewhere. [as Sonic] “Happy Thursday, Silver!” [as Silver, panicked as he’s being reminded of his trauma] “WHY?!” KYLE: [erupts into laughter, then as Silver] “What is this?!” [laughs] Man, if you made a reference to Throwing Him Thursday, I think the— I think there’s a lot of Tumblr people who would melt down. In a— you know, in a good way. IAN: [chuckling to himself] Shadow just puts him off a— puts him out a window. [as Shadow] “Huh, is it Thursday already?” KYLE: [laughing] Oh, man… IAN: Anyway, characters that we could throw on a Thursday — or any day, really. KYLE: Any day. I could throw— I could throw— I could take Charmy. [chuckles] IAN: Yeah, Charmy, Cheese… KYLE: But then I’d have to contend with not being able to throw Vector and Espio as they murder me. [laughs] IAN: [chuckles, then as Vector] “Nice arm there, Kyle! Wanna see how [unintelligible] it is?” KYLE: [laughs] Oh! IAN: And I imagine Cream, but only because she wants to, like, take off, so she’s already got her ears ready, and you’re like, out in an open field, and it’s like throwing a kite into the air or something. She’s having a grand time, just, “whee!” KYLE: Yeah, she can fly. [chuckles] IAN: Uh… how heavy is Tails, actually? KYLE: Eh, I don’t think Tails is very, uh, heavy, and he’d fly, so… you know IAN: I’m gonna look this up real quick. KYLE: You could throw Froggy a little bit— [stuttering unintelligibly] a little bit far. You know. IAN: [as Big] “Once.” KYLE: Once. [laughs] IAN: Huh! Actually Tails is like, over forty pounds! KYLE: Okay, he’s a… IAN: That’s not really a throw, that’s more of a heft. KYLE: He’s a beefy— he’s a beefy boy then, huh? Wow. [chuckles, then reading chat] I’m being told that Ray was born to be yeeted. [laughs] IAN: [chuckles] You know that’s what he and Mighty do all the time. KYLE: Of course! IAN: It’s kinda like— it’s like with Cream! KYLE: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. IAN: [as Mighty] “Ready, little guy?” [as Ray] “Ready!” Woosh! KYLE: Yeah, pretty much, exactly. IAN: How much does Orbot weigh? KYLE: He’s pretty small, but he’s also a robot, so who knows how dense he is? Uh… IAN: If he even has an official weight… [Googling] Uh, he is— holy crap, he’s over sixty pounds! KYLE: Yeah, I was gonna say, he’s probably real dense. He’s got a lot in him. [chuckles] IAN: [sigh] I could probably pick him up and hmph, but yeah, I ain’t throwin’ that. Goodness. KYLE: The irony is that you’d think Cubot would be the dense one! IAN: [chuckles] Well, now I’m curious, if Orbot is sixty-six point one pounds… KYLE: He would be one really heavy bowling ball, at least. [laughs] IAN: Self-steering, no less. KYLE: Yeah! IAN: [Googling] Oh, wow. Cubot’s, uh, almost eighty-six pounds. KYLE: Oh! He’s dense— he’s even more dense! IAN: He’s a hefty boy! KYLE: [laughs] IAN: So, yeah.
KYLE: Nice. [chuckles] Yes. Ah, yes. [reading chat] Cubot, the honorable— or, Orbot, the honorable Whipple. IAN: [snickers] KYLE: Welcome to the Whipple family. [chuckling] I don’t know if we could really throw any of them? I mean, sure, a giant mech could throw Jewel, as we’ve established previously, but I don’t know if I could. She’s pretty— she’s pretty big for a bug. IAN: Yeah, I… she might need to be hefted, not really thrown. KYLE: Yeah, yeah. You could throw a chao. IAN: Yeah. KYLE: You can throw Marine, maybe. IAN: Well, now I’m curious, uh… Charmy’s like twenty-two pounds. KYLE: Why is he so freakin’ huge? He’s a bee! [laughs] IAN: And I would imagine Jewel’s at least that weight, so… KYLE: Y-yeah…? [stuttering] How heavy are pounds on Sonic’s world?! IAN: [laughs] I mean, you could still maybe throw Charmy, but you’d have to put your back into it. You’d have to, like, limber up first. KYLE: Yeah! IAN: And just because we brought it up, you know, the idea is Cream’s just kinda using this as an excuse to be thrown, but— [Googling] she’s twenty-six pounds. She’s barely heavier than Charmy. What in the world? KYLE: [chuckling] What? What?! IAN: But yeah, I could definitely pick her up over my head and kinda, fwoop, and then she’d flap and she’d fly, and she’d have a fun time. KYLE: Yeah, yeah… yeah, yeah, I think they’re all a bit too heavy. It’s that— it’s that dang Beach Ball Head Syndrome they got going on. [chuckles] Those giant heads, you know?

TOS fans, you may want to read this comic series!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sooo I recently read this series of comics called Star Trek: Year Five, published in 2019-2021 by IDW Publishing; I heard it was good, but I didn't expect it to be that good!
If you haven't read it, I suggest to check it out! (it's also not hard to find it if you get what I mean)
The art overall is great and, more importantly, the characters act like themselves and there are several references to their canon backgrounds, past and future experiences! What I absolutely loved was also seeing a lot of "old faces" from TOS show, as well as mentions of events from the series and the movies.
As the title suggests, the story takes place during the last year of Kirk's five-year mission on the Enterprise. I'd like to tell you more, but I enjoyed the surprise of a lot of things I didn't expect, so first of all I'll post a few pics without major spoilers from the first 11 issues (there are 25, so you still have a lot to discover!):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I especially love how Bones and Sulu are drawn, they really look like them! Scotty and Uhura too, but that depends on the artist. Speaking of them, if you like a little Scotty/Uhura, this series has something good about it!
The joke about Kirk thinking there's something strange with the way the Klingons look now cracked me up. LOL
Also, I'm not sure Chapel would call McCoy "Bones", but she is very right in that panel. :)
The last panel is classical James T. Kirk's ass appreciation lol
Tumblr media
Sulu has a love story with an alien who doesn't understand human genders and uses they/them pronouns. As someone who headcanons TOS Sulu as attracted to any gender, that was great to see :D
Tumblr media
I'm also posting this "end-of-the-episode" panel because it's just perfection. TOS in a nutshell. Aww, look at Kirk and Spock just looking at each other! <3
I must say, you may be a little disappointed if you expect to see many moments with Kirk and Spock together, BUT the scenes they have together are really good! I won't say anything more, just read until the end and you'll see! :D
By the way, this series has a Valentine's Day extra, which is the only part where Kirk has a love interest (a female original character). Yeah, you heard me: in the main story, Kirk doesn't have new romances with anyone; Sulu is the one who gets all the action! ;)
The Valentine's Day issue is not linked to anything else and I don't think Kirk's female love interest is mentioned outside that story, so you can easily skip it if it's not for you. However, even if I can't say I'm especially happy with that story, I personally found something interesting there, for example this:
Tumblr media
I think I saw this out of context once, but I didn't know where it was from, so sorry I'm just going to lose my mind thinking about ladies or GENTLEMEN in Kirk's life and Kirk not correcting her about his sexual preferences. Anyway, I might make a separate post someday about this special from a Kirk/Spock shipper's perspective, because I do have a lot of thoughts about it :)
So, if you haven't read Star Trek: Year Five, I hope I convinced you to check it out! I hadn't been lucky with other Star Trek comics before, so I had almost lost hope to find something good… and then here it was! Something that made me feel like it was really written with a lot of love for The Original Series! I really needed it!
If you decide to give it a try, I'd love to see your thoughts and see your favorite parts! I hope you enjoyed this little review. :)

I’m so happy this is finally finished! It took awhile to finish but i’m so happy!!
This is just a fanart of a headcanon i have of MC in a transformers fanfic i read in quotev where in the future she becomes a rebel against the senator council and goes threw out Cybertron graffitiing peace protests against the government and puts up hologram posters of facts and the lies that the council puts up to propagandize Cybertron’s population.
Honestly the hardest part on MC’s design is the shoulder and legs wheels cause i’ve never drawn transformers so i was racking my head on how to draw them. And also is it just me but why are transformers helms so hard to draw?!! Like i know it’s a helmet but just kept feeling like i just made them bald. But it’s so much fun trying to draw something that i’ve never tried before and so glad that there’s a concept art for the MC of the story in chapter 18 cause if there aren’t any i’m an absolute goner to draw this!!! And I mostly drew this in the Transformers animated style cause primus save me it would have took me ages of life to draw this in like prime or IDW style (to those who can transformers in that style, i bow to your superior skills cause most people would think that drawing detailed blocks are easy but PITS NOPE!!!)
And i gave little reference on the paint that’s inside the paint spray gun where the colors i referenced to the cover of the fanfic (and i also made MC holding a car spray gun to do her graffiti cause i kind of thought that no one in Cybertron have graffitied yet so for MC to do it in Cybertron like back in her life as a human she uses spray guns that are used to paint cars/alt modes in transformers. And if someone ask on why the spray gun is attached to a hose on MC’s bag thing, the black part of that bag is to storage paints so like the bags used by graffiti artists that i found and the red bottom part of the bag is an air compressor thing like it’s used in car spray gun but in a more portable size. And honestly not sure if i should call it bag cause, atleast in my headcanon on how MC made her handicraft bag, technically it’s just a metal box that MC found that she attaches a cut hose for the sling and maybe and old used air compressor she fixed cause if I remember correctly bags aren’t a thing in Transformers so i tried to incorporate that). And in the background is actually those colored beats like in videos where each music beats the video shows it as a reference to MC’s love of music (and the blue pink colors are not only referring to MC’s optics but also cause in the fanfic she has the power to open a portal to the void/shadow realm so i was referencing that). And the white lines on the edges of the drawing is a referencing to MC hacking and putting up hologram posters cause i thought that if MC is going to get the truth from the government she will need to be able to hack computer systems and such to get them. And it’s just a tiny detail but the curves inside of Nebula as she swirls behind MC where it’s sharp is a reference that she looks like flowing flames but I didn’t want it to be too obvious so i just decided to make her a flowing blob (cause i thought that that’s what she looks like in the solid world if MC isn’t in the void) shadow with slight sharp angles like how stylized fires look like. Also can someone tell me if there’s a device in Transformers to make hologram posters? Cause I wasn’t sure what it would look like so just made it look like a flat disc in MC’s right servo. And just a headcanon as well, MC’s will absolutely splatter herself with colorful paints as not only as protest against the government that tries to make her to convert to their ideals but also just as a fun self expression where while MC is covered it messy paints it’s also made her beautiful with her confidence on not being afraid to stand out and be different (tho i have a feeling that if Knockout saw her like that he’ll have a spark attack) kind of like a transformer’s version of tattoos and such. The feathers on MC’s helm i intentionally put rainbow colors on them cause i kind of thought that the feathers are holographic so every time MC moves her feathers reflects and changes color. And the reason why i made MC and Nebula surrounded with so many colors is sorta kind like a representation how went from just living by under the rules of Cybertron to taking charge in trying to help Cybertron by doing things that’s different by the standards there and giving color to the lives around her. And i made Nebula with wings as a little nod on her connection with Unicron and i just made her sparkly cause i thought it’ll be pretty hehe~ along with the mismatched mascaras that MC uses cause i just thought it adds abit of that rebellious allure especially since the colors that are used are the shade of the other optic’s color!
Honestly this is one of my favorite drawings i made! I’ve always loved those drawings where monochromatic colors being surrounded by like a rainbow bomb around them, so this drawing is definitely my absolute favorites!
X - X - X - X - X
And also if anyone is curious and wants to read the fanfic that i’ve been rambling above on the fanart i made here’s the link to the fic!
Please give some love to the author of this fic cause they’ve worked really hard to make this incredible well written fanfic that goes in depth on Transformers. And don’t forget to leave a heart on their fic! Like seriously go and give this a read! The plot hasn’t even gotten to the war part of the Transformers and it’s already so good! And to those who want a various x reader fic where the relationship goes deeper then just characters falling in love without context, this is a fic for you simping boos out there!

Transformers: Beast Wars - Second Chances - Page 2

deviantART
wada sez: Starscream’s ghost returned in the Beast Wars episode “Possession”; here, he’s back again, and he finds the dead body of Terrorsaur, who was last seen turning into a Transmetal as he fell into lava inside the Darksyde in “Aftermath”. Terrosaur’s actual toyline-only Transmetal toy is used for the character’s design. In case you didn’t know, Ryan Miller is prominent fanartist TGPing, who achieved popularity in recent years with his stunning watercolors of Beast Wars characters and toy-accurate G1 characters, and managed to sneak in a couple of covers for IDW before they closed up shop. His work here reflects his toy-accurate approach, as Starscream has been drawn specifically as his Masterpiece body for some reason. This was originally going to be Page 7 of the comic, but was bumped up earlier; according to a later comment by Shaun Flaherty: “Starscream's Page 2 originally occurred much later, but as we assembled the pages, it seemed to interrupt the natural flow of the "Beast Wars" characters' stories, so we sort of squeezed it in near the beginning. I feel comfortable with the idea that he's watching the events unfold along with the audience until an opportunity presents itself for him to intervene on his own behalf, but it is a long time between when the seed is planted and its payoff.” See the original script below, as well as Curt’s “Writer Spotlight”.
Second Chances Page 7
Panel One
(Shot of a twinkle in space.  This doesn‘t have to be very large)
TEXT BOX:  Maximals…
TEXT BOX:  Predacons…
Panel Two
(Shot of a grey and red blur flying toward the Predacons ruined base/ship.  This also doesn‘t need to be that large)
TEXT BOX:  Tremble in fear…
Panel Three
(Reveal of Ghost Starscream, screaming out loud above the ruined Predacon base/ship in a triumphant pose.  Starscream‘s spark is pulsating and clearly visible inside of his chest)
Starscream:  Starscream has returned!!!!
TEXT BOX(Lower right hand corner):  …
TEXT BOX(Lower right hand corner):  Where is everyone?!
Panel Fopr
(Shot of Transmetal Terrorsaur‘s arm, “encased“ in cooled lava.  It’s grasping toward the air, very similar to what we saw when Terrosaur was going into the lava during the episode “Aftermath”.  Starscream can be seen hovering in the air above)
TEXT BOX:  Hmm, what’s that?
Panel Five
(Shot of Ghost Starscream entering into the ground around the arm.)
TEXT BOX:  Looks like someone forgot one of their toys.
Panel Six
(Shot of Transmetal Terrorsaur “clawing” out of the ground.  It should be done in a way that the reader doesn’t quite know exactly what it is yet)
SOUND EFFECT:  Crrrack…
TEXT BOX:  Huh, seems a little broken…
Panel Seven
(Reveal of Trasnmetal Terrorsaur,   He’s in a “cool” pose, but is very heavily damaged, maybe even blackened somewhat.  Somewhere near his feet we can see the remains of McDonald’s Transmetal Scorponok if the artist wishes)
Starscream:  …but that doesn’t mean it won’t be fun to play with!
Beast Wars.  I think for me, it’s the series that sort of kept the Transformer spark in me alive.  However, it’s also kind of a weird series, as I keep it segregated in my mind from the rest of my Transformers.  Allow me to explain: Being born in ‘85, by the time I was old enough to remember, Transformers was off the air.  But there was the semi-local video store, hand-me-down and a few new Transformer toys, some G1 episodes of my own, various “Action Cards”, and a very cool big brother to help fill in my imagination.  So even though I didn’t get to see G1 firsthand, I can honestly say that Transformers was definitely a part of my early childhood. But, in hindsight, I’d say Beast Wars played a very integral part in keeping me with Transformers.  Ya see, I didn’t have cable/satellite until I was 12.  Therefore, my knowledge of G2 was sketchy at best, and I only got a whole nine figures from the line when I was a kid, all Decepticons oddly enough.  However, my awesome big brother was in college at this time, and he came home on the weekends, and he usually brought me home a tape of cartoons I couldn’t see otherwise.  It was through this method that I saw that unforgettable commercial... “In the beginning, there was the beast.  But it’s more than meets the eye, it’s a robot in disguise!”  I saw it, and said to myself “Hey, Transformers, cool!”  So I watched the commercial a few times, and immediately wanted Dinobot.  However, he wasn’t first Beastformer, that honor goes to McDonald’s Manta Ray.  It took a little while for my brother to find out when Beast Wars was airing and start taping me episodes, but in the meantime I again took up renting G1 episodes from the library and getting a few Beast Wars figures in the process.  Because of this, I was mystified the first time I laid eyes on Gorilla Optimus Primal and T-Rex Megatron.  “That doesn’t make sense, they’re supposed to be a bat and a crocodile!” When I finally did get to see some select, mostly first season episodes of Beast Wars, I immediately recognized it as a good show.  As I learned the characters, I collected a few more figures, though not too many.  Years later I realized that, barring Snapper and the McBeasts, all the characters I got when I was “a  kid” were from the show!  Of course, oddly enough, I always kept my Beast Wars in a box by themselves.  Once in awhile they’d have adventures with my other Transformers, Super Heroes, G.I. Joes, etc., but for the most part they stayed separate. Anyway, even though I got satellite in ‘97, it wasn’t until around ‘99 that I finally got to see Beast Wars in it’s entirety when FOX re-aired the series.  If I recall correctly, I watched it every day it was on, and loved every episode. Time went by.  I watched the first season of Beast Machines, but wasn’t really impressed at the time.  The DreamWave comics came out, Rhino released certain episodes of G1.  This, and a very cool bootleg lot containing all G1 and CG Beast Wars/Machines episodes my brother bought, firmly cemented me into the realm of the Transformers.  I was here to stay. But what does that have to do with Beast Wars?  Well, in that lot there was a “commercial” tape that had various commercials and U.S./Japanese intros to nearly every Transformers series at the time (up to Car Robots).  It was through this that I learned about Beast Wars II and Neo.  I was intrigued.  Suddenly I wanted to know more about those characters and that Universe.  Well, for a long time that was my only knowledge.  When I finally got the Internet, I looked into Beast Wars II and Neo, though I’ve yet to see either of those series with the exception of a couple fan-dubbed episodes and the BWII Movie on YouTube.  But I did learn about all these cool non-show Beast Wars characters, and I wanted more. So for the longest time, I kinda ignored the Beast Wars CG series.  In my mind, it was done, and everything about those characters had been told.  I eagerly awaited the DreamWave Beast Wars series once I saw it would star non-show characters (though we all know what happened there), and I loved IDW’s “The Gathering”.  But I still had little interest in the original Mainframe Beast Wars cast.  I’d seen the show through a few times by this time, and the show had lost some of it’s original luster.  The Beast Era was over, it was all about G1 homages.  Therefore, when new Beast Wars material surfaced, I was more interested in new Beast Wars exploits, with new non-show characters. Then I received the invite to join what would become BEAST WARS: Second Chances.  I, of course, wanted in on writing the story because, heck, Mosaic is a really fun project and I’d been itching to co-write something.  So I took another look at the series.  When we got into the nuts and bolts of things, I started to realize again why I liked those characters to begin with and I looked at the Beast Wars show in a new light.  It was still good, but I started to see things I hadn’t seen before.  There were aspects of characters that could still be explored and stories yet to be told.  The magic is back and now I look forward to hunting down figures from the show I never got.  Surprisingly, Dinobot II is among them (you’ll all find out why soon enough). So all in all, I’d say Beast Wars is kind of a weird area for me.  I don’t know if I’ll ever be as enamored with it as much as G1 or Animated, but Second Chances has certainly rekindled my love for the series as a whole. -- Curt Lunsford

Okay, revised version of the post now that it's not early in the morning and some flaws with the original one have been pointed out: Adam Bryce Thomas has done some pretty gross stuff, and I do not think he should be working for IDW Sonic (elaboration and proof below)
To begin, Adam Bryce Thomas has drawn NSFW art of Sonic characters, including Blaze. I won't link to it because I don't want to spread it, but if you really want to see concrete proof with your own eyes (and can stomach seeing it), then it's on the site e621. This is already pretty bad, but with the context it gives, it make a lot of other stuff he's done also gross
Both in commissions he does for people and in the actual comics themselves, Adam draws Whisper with a noticeably larger chest than she has in a lot of her other appearances
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Panels on the left are from other artists, and panels on the right are from Adam)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can't prove that he's doing this for creepy reasons (as Couch pointed out this could just be how he naturally draws bodies), but since we do know that he's not above drawing a character even younger than Whisper in outright explicit artwork, I would say it's a very real possibility
Another thing is this. Again, I can't prove for a fact that this art was drawn with sexual purpose, or that he liked it for that reason. But the use of the word curvy does kind of tip the scales in the direction of "this guy is being gross", especially considering what we know about him
Tumblr media
That's basically all I have for now, I'll update this post later if I find more stuff. In conclusion, Adam Bryce Thomas is provably gross about the Sonic characters in his free time, and possibly gross about them in the comic itself as well

In archie some of the female characters don't wear any clothes, especially Sally. It was kinda awkward at times since she was often given a voluptuous realistic human bod (complete with bewbz and a navel).
yeah i know but tbh. my opinion is that girl sonic characters having minimal or no clothing is only weird if you make it weird. i hate seeing sonic characters be sexualized at all so im not encouraging that here, im just saying that theres not really any logical reason for girl sonic characters to be required to be fully clothed when theyre animals And the boys run around basically naked.. the only good comparison i can think of off the top of my head is that it wouldnt be any different from how daisy duck is often drawn without pants and thats not seen as weird
sallys outfit was only uncomfortable when certain artists would draw her in the way you described and even then the outfit wasnt really the problem it was the way her body was drawn, when shes drawn how a sonic character is actually supposed to look it doesnt really look weird

I remember when I first got into Monster High and the first thing I ever saw was art of someone's headcanon with fat/plus-sized Draculaura. Truthfully I think that's partly what actually made me love Monster High so much, to this day I still love and actively encourage that headcanon even if I'm not active in the fandom much anymore. I've never actually drawn Draculaura before, or at least a full body drawing of her, but one day I want to do that. If I had the artistic ability tbh I'd redraw the IDW comics to have fat Draculaura just because I feel the comics need diversity.
Also shoutout to the one individual who tagged my post saying we need plus-sized Cleo as well. Wholeheartedly agree. I saw that tag and immediately adapted that as a headcanon but if you're seeing this I'd also love elaboration /nf

Her unprofessionalism and writing aside, Evan Stanley's position isn't what I'd call envious. Imagine being given what kinda amounts to a mere hand-me-down by her fellow male employee, right before he gets to do more writing opportunities outside the measly comic. Sure he'll come back as a side writer and allow you to maintain the reins, but you will forever remain in his shadow because he'll still be viewed as the more prominent and this feeling isn't helped when your writing is (sorta) similar to his.
And that doesn't even cover the fact that he talked over her regarding a story she wrote as if he wrote it himself. If the two ever got along initially, I can't help but feel shit like that ought to develop some degree of friction.
It also doesn't help that she ends up drawing the issues she writes too fairly often. Which on the one hand means she can avoid embarrassing art flubs where what was drawn doesn't match what was written, as FREQUENTLY occurs with an artist like ABT.
Tumblr media
(why is Kit's mouth open as if he's shouting when he isn't saying anything in this panel?)
but honestly? I cannot possibly imagine that IDW is fairly compensating her for essentially doubling her work load. She needs to write the issue and then also draw it? Is she being PAID the salary of a writer and then also being paid the salary of an artist? Somehow I seriously doubt it.
Honestly my assumption is that Stanley is being horrifically exploited by her current position on the comic. Which is probably why she's been cranking out commissions so much recently.

the unofficial rules of reading comic books (in my completely unqualified opinion)
1. do not start by reading Alan Moore comics (speaking from experience,, they're good but I would recommend getting used to the medium and understanding the social context of them first)
2. adapt to any new information given and accept that you will likely never fully understand everything
3. you will eventually find that comic writer that you hate with a burning passion (everyone has one) (and if you don't, you will)
4. new 52 fucking sucks (there are a few exceptions)
5. sometimes they will set up a storyline and then drop it
6. you do not need to understand the context of everything you read
7. you do not have to read everything in order
8. most comics have arcs of about 5-6 issues, these will likely come out at trade paperbacks or graphic novels later
9. YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY HAS GRAPHIC NOVELS!!!
10. try not to get stuck, I know it's easy to just read batman or just read marvel comics but please try to branch out or try something new,,,, reading only X-Men is fun and all but sometimes you gotta read some Blue Beetle too
11. other comic fans have different opinions to you, that's fine
12. every single comic has a biggest fan and a biggest hater (this is okay)
13. support your local comic shop/comic fairs
14. comics can be very dumb
15. the biggest difference between Marvel and DC is the name of the publisher
16. most DC writers/artists have written/drawn Marvel comics and most Marvel writers/artists have written/drawn DC comics
17. You should check out other comic publishers like IDW, Archie, Dark Horse or Image,, or even check out local comic makers in your area
18. canon is the things that stay the same when a different person writes a character
19. at some point every comic fan will read these comics, House of M, Watchmen, One of DC's many Crisis Events, a Marvel comic where The Phoenix Ruins Everything, the Comic you Hate Most in the World, Probably Something Written By Stan Lee and The Sandman
20. no one stays dead except Bucky Barnes, Jason Todd and Uncle Ben
21. the nineties in comics were the nineties in comics
22. you must read comics that don't have batman in it (please I'm begging you)
23. your favourite cartoon was likely inspired by comics (or written by) a comic writer
24. someone else has a completely different interpretation of your favourite character (and both interpretations can co-exist) (it is the nature of a medium that has so many creators telling stories about the same characters for details to contradict sometimes)
25. comics are artforms, they tell stories, they can be beautiful and thought provoking and gut wrenching and heart breaking and hopeful (or they can be none of these things)
26. questioning character choices, small details and information given in the comics you read is the first step to analysing and engaging with the material (so you think batman should kill??? now think about why he doesn't.) (you believe magneto is right??? now tell me why he's considered a villain)
27. sometimes it's deeper than you think
28. sometimes it isn't
29. remember the names of the writers and artists you love, too often comic creators are under appreciated
30. Jeff is people too
(feel free to add more)
