Dead Boy Detectives has everything:
Co Dependent queer platonic tough to define Best Freinds who would and have gone to hell for each other. they have an office with a cupboard full of board games, and a long history of Noodle Incident cases of '04, and also a bunch of maneuvers with code names. They are also ghosts who solve mysteries for other ghosts.
One is a sassy well read diva in a stupid little bowtie. he keeps meticulous notes, and went to hell on a technicality. he has no rizz and has a sexual awakening at the hands (paws?) of a supernatural Cat King
the other is a cheerful happy bruiser, the brawn with a pocket demension only he can navigate in his backpack, a magic cricket bat, and wells of anger deep down
they team up with a cool psychic (whos also a pretty tree) dealing with her asshole abusive boyfriend who was literally a demon while also trying to restore her memories (she also has a hilarious hate off off with the nerdy one)
then they add a sweet shut in who isn't very brave but is very inquisitive and has excellent reading comprehension and is actually the most brave
and their landlady is a hot goth Sapphic butcher who is done with their shit (but not really)
and the main antagonist is a cunt serving witch with an iron cane chewing up the scenery, just camp queen obsessed with Beauty and Revenge as she should be
she turns her crow familiar into an astrology loving twink to honeypot the nerdy one but the crow catches feelings whoops
the cat king who deserves his own mention again. he's here to seduce a stuffy British detective/tease, cause problems on purpose, reluctantly help solve those problems and mostly slut it up.
a bureaucrat learns to VERY reluctantly embrace the beautiful power of friendship after being swallowed by a fish
its set in a gorgeous seaside town with a light house! and a malt shop!
because this is all A Scooby Doo homage!
It's an episodic Case Of The Episode format! with strong serialized elements!
and as if that wasn't enough there's even Death of The Endless.
what more could any person possibly want in a show.
oh and there's a lot of really interesting themes around internalized homophpbia, abusive relationships and trauma and toxic anger and learning to love and trust and help other people again in spite of and because of the bad parts.

All of my hyperfixations - past and present - are merging into a chaotic bundle of the Triple Ts (terribly traumatized twinks) and slowly driving me insane.
I can’t focus on my day to day life when I’m constantly thinking of terribly traumatized twinks (not all of them are twinks BUT THEY ARE ALL GAY)
Like genuinely how am I supposed to focus on such trivial matters like pre-calc or my collapsing relationship with my father when all I can think about is:
how Heartstopper isn’t just a cringe teen show, it’s a beautiful representation of being young and queer, and how struggling with mental health can severely impact your most formative years - Charlie had friends and yet still felt completely alone and like he couldn’t burden them with his pain because mental illness fucks with your brain so deeply, it’ll make you believe you have nothing and no one when you may actually have something and someone
or how Dead Boy Detectives isn’t just a silly ghost show (although it’s a wonderful silly ghost show), its a show about how friendship and love can be the most powerful thing in your arsenal (aside from a magic cricket racket) and how your past can haunt (ha) you and how the constant fear of becoming who you hate most in the world will always linger in the back of your mind but your true family can keep you safe and help you heal, and how fucking impossible it is to be gay or a POC at the wrong place, in the wrong fucking time - and maybe you won’t be able to find any peace in your current situation but there is peace out there somewhere, waiting for you patiently. (Charles and Edwin found their peace in their own homebrew afterlife, but seeing as we are mere servants of the mortal plane and not transdimensional beings, we shall have to suffice with sculpting our own peace out of this terrifying world because we fully damn well can, and we deserve it)
or how she-ra isn’t some goofy kid show; it’s a show about how being groomed and manipulated can destroy a child’s psyche so much that it will take years to rebuild (also it’s gay as fuck). catra wasn’t cruel (okay maybe she was just a bit but hear me out guys- I’m due for a rewatch and all I remember is I love that woman more than life itself), she was abandoned again and again and again and all she wanted was for adora to stay, so she wouldn’t be alone anymore, not again. And finally- FINALLY she stayed (giving us one of the most cinematic scenes in history [so just this once, adora: stay]). Adora and Catra are two sides of the same coin. They were both subject to the mental and physical torture of Shadow Weaver and they both responded in different ways due to their own personalities and differences in how they were treated - but they found each other in the end, and always protected each other because that’s what best friends (specifically the really really gay ones) do.
or how the owl house ALSO isn’t a silly kids show, but instead another show about abuse and trauma and growing up queer, and how healing and freeing acceptance is (oh and also some more child soldiers). Amity was so mean to people because meanness and cruelty was all she knew, until Luz took the time to dig a bit deeper and find the real Amity buried deep inside - and how Luz and Amity, even at such a young age, in such a dangerous and confusing world, were ALWAYS there for each other, no matter what
or how 9-1-1 is deeper than just a random fire fire show. It depicts all sorts of personal struggles like post partum depression, PTSD, anxiety, trauma, child neglect/abuse, depression, abandonment, death, foster care, divorce, and ofc: suppressed queerness/comp het! (Eddie literally put Buck in his will and made him the designated legal guardian for Christopher - if that ain’t gay, idk what is)
or how criminal minds has one of the most tragically beautiful found family tropes whilst being a show about the literal scum of the earth? How even in such gruesome circumstances, these people banded together and made the most beautiful family.
or how Percy Jackson is a kids/teen book but delves into such deep and tragic topics so well. Child soldiers, child abuse, being queer at the wrong place and time, coming to terms with being queer, child soldiers, DID I MENTION THE CHILD SOLDIERS??
or how Epic uses expert music theory and lyricism to convey a gorgeous tragedy in the best way I’ve ever seen
or how the grishaverse had so much potential, and is a brilliant literary universe but was BUTCHERED on screen, wasting one of the best casts I’ve ever seen
Genuinely how do I move on with my life when I can’t stop thinking about this (and so many more thoughts that I don’t have the energy to write out at 3:30AM)

Dear Pascal,
I'm really bored again, so I'm going to help you try to make amends with your brother and win over the favor of this town.
The twink with the brown and purple hair (forgot his name) will be sending you a letter pretending to be Vidcund, telling you to meet him at the garden at midnight. Don't be alarmed. He's trying to do that thing where he tricks the two of you into talking, except he's also there to act as a mediator.
The sooner you two reconcile, the sooner you can get a normal life for your son and get the town to stop hating you. And remember to tell him everything that you told me when you were trying to convince me to take you to this cursed place to begin with.
If you say the wrong thing, you'll end up confirming the beliefs of everyone in Willow Creek - that you haven't changed, and you don't deserve of a second chance.
I can't help you if you mess up. The only thing I can do is to take you and your son to a place where you can get a fresh start, far away from everything and everyone you've ever known.
Take care,
Melony Felony
---
Nights in Willow Creek were far different than the ones in Strangetown. The temperature was a gentle type of cold, and crickets and birds would chirp alongside the sound of the wind as Pascal stared at the far less impressive night sky.
His mind hadn't fully processed everything that had happened. One moment he was shoving Vidcund out the door after a heated argument over his fate, another moment he was banging on a see-through wall as Chloe and Lola laughed at his misfortune.
He shuddered as his mind flashed to the day that Chloe read him the final letter that Nervous wrote to him. The one telling him that this would be the very last letter he was going to send, because there was no point in writing to someone who didn't care enough about him to write back.
It was that particular moment, along with unusual pink lights, that alerted Pascal of Vidcund's and Ripp's presences. Half of Vidcund's fate had turned completely pink, but it was an improvement from his entire body turning magenta as the world got engulfed by glitchy pink textures.
"You might be wondering why I gathered you both here today," Ripp said, gesturing to the pink stuff around Vidcund, "It's because you two need to sort your shit out before we're forced to relive our worst memories for another week.
"...I had a lot of time to think while being held prisoner by SCIA," Pascal continued, "I was scared for Tycho, and that fear made me think irrationally. It wasn't fair of me to punish you for something you couldn't control, especially when you were also uncomfortable with what happened."
The glitchy pink texture surrounded Vidcund dispersed into shards as he and Ripp both stared at Pascal with the same startled expression, lingering as everything began to glow pink. Pascal caught a brief glimpse of someone peeking at them behind a tree, who removed her mask to smile at him before disappearing.
"I'm sorry for lashing out on you as well," Vidcund said, after a long period of silence, "I did plan on telling you and Lazlo about it, but he beat me to it first. But I think it'd be best if we remained out of each other's lives."
"Are you still upset?"
"Obviously! Do you think one conversation is going to get rid of the fact that you nearly left me to rot on the streets? If it weren't for A*** and Melony, I would've died!"
Vidcund took a deep breath as Ripp patted him on the back in a feeble attempt to calm him down.
"And even if we did choose to forgive each other," Vidcund continued, "There's always going to be that 'what-if' in the back of your head. You're never going to fully trust me."
"I know," Pascal said, sighing, “Maybe I’ll never stop being paranoid. Maybe your destiny hasn’t occurred yet, and maybe I’ll never be able to trust you again. But I’d like to at least try. I don’t want things to end like this.”
The pink shards were beginning to fade as Vidcund looked down at Pascal with a puzzled expression, his right eye twitching underneath pink-tinted glasses before tears began streaking down his face.
"Yeah," he said, sniffling, "I'd like that too...Let's give this another try."
---
And as I stand behind a tree and watch their reconciliation, I can't help but wonder...if someone like him, branded as unforgivable, was able to receive forgiveness for what he's done...
Is there hope for me, too?

7, 8, 21, 23 for both
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
Peter: (crickets)
Wade: I think they make him a little more educated than the comics. The comics are very much, a man writing a man and since fandom is primarily straight women and queer people there's a smoothing of some of the rougher, more grotesque edges that I think make him a much easier character to interact with.
8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
Peter: he's underage, he's a baby-slut, he's a virgin, he's naive, he's sexually inexperienced, he's exploitable, he's a twink, he's got dick sucking lips, he's got bambi eyes, he's outside your door, he's wearing lingerie, he's mewling, he's eating pancakes in the sluttiest way possible, he's a stripper, he loves attention, he hates attention, he - is not really Peter Parker, but that's okay because he's a sexual fantasy, he's available for projection, he's you, but he's a boy, he's a boy but he's sexually available for use, he's -
Wade: canonical CSA survivor with a total kill policy when it comes to pedophiles is making an exception...for himself....?
21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?
Wade: I love making him confidently wrong. Wade has such a big ego, and makes sure-fire observations about the characters and world around him that are filtered through his experiences. I wouldn't say he's as much of an unreliable as say, Peter, because Wade does understand himself, but he's just - wrong, so, so often, but he's so good at selling it to the reader and himself that he's not. I think my least favorite thing is that sometimes it can be hard to give him the emotional journey he deserves because he canonically puts up with a lot of shit from people, and sometimes doesn't mind taking a beating if it means he gets to be around someone he cares about. I don't think it's fair to him, and sometimes it can be a bummer to write.
Peter: I love how like, insane he is, but he thinks everything he does is not only normal - but the correct way to do it. It's like, he could be doing something so unhinged and wrongheaded, but he's just like, "this is what normal people do and I am a normal person." but he's not. My least favorite thing is that he can be hard to write because he is so many contractions and misunderstands wrapped up in one stubborn person. It can be so hard to move him from point A to point B. If I'm trying to move the plot, that guy is my enemy numero uno.
23. Favorite picture of this character?
Wade:
Peter:
#mailbox#ask game#really fun ones to answer#love that my favorite pictures look like they're from the same verse

TDP prism day 7 : Tomorrow (destiny, dawn)
The wind on his face felt so good after being locked away for so long. The cold bite that played across his skin was so refreshing, like a cool drink on a hot summer's day.
Aarovos took a deep breath, savouring the night air.
Yes, it was so good to be able sit out under the stars again.
Somewhere over the distant horizon, the sun was slowly starting her slow, steady march across the sky, but for now the night was still dark, the stars still twinked quietly overhead, and Aarovos had time to sit and absorb the world around him.
The world around mountin side cave he'd found himself sitting in was full of life, the chirping of birds in the trees somewhere below sounding like a choir singing over a background of croaking frogs and chirping crickets.
Truly, a beautiful spot to witness his first sunrise in... oh, Aarovos could dwell on that one other time.
No, that could wait until tomorrow.
Today, he was simply free. Free to enjoy the coming sunrise, free to take a bite of the crisp, sweet apple he'd found in the bag of his current guest, and free to muse about what he'd do next.
"I suppose there will be people looking for you, hmm?" Aarovos toasted the softly glowing cocoon that was webbed up just inside the mouth of the cave, watching as the figure inside squirmed at the sound of his voice. "No doubt they are already on there way. "
The figure squirmed some more, form flexing and twisting before setting down again, almost like they were trying to get away from the sensation of being restricted and restrained.
Aarovos couldn't tell if they were actually awake in there or just dreaming deeply as his magic seeped in, and the changes started.
"I doubt.." A flash of future blead his mind. "Hmm, no, they'll find you sooner rather than later."
Another flash, more clear this time , made him grumble in annoyance.
".. much sooner."
Much too soon for the transformation to be complete. Yes, it would be well underway and passed the point of being ato be stopped, but outside of the cocoon it would be a painful experience.
And the poor child, so brave, so noble, he didn't deserve such things.
Aarovos strolled up to the cocoon and pressed his hand into the firm, jelly like substance, smiling softly to himself.
The boy inside squirmed and kicked again, as the magic he was marinating in was changed slightly, altered to speed up the process just a little. Just a bit.
"Now, none of that." Aarovos soothed, carefully tweaking the spell just so,"your elf girl will be here by dawn."
The boy stilled, almost like He was listening.
"But the die is cast, my dear child, and no matter what happens next, how far you go, you'll find your way back to me."
Be it because of the changes, the potential outcasting that the changes might cause, or the magic that was soon to bloom, the boy would come back.
It was his destiny, after all, to walk amongst the stars.
Just as Aarovos had done, and will do again.
It was just a shame, a real shame, that the human body was not suited for such a feat.
